Fearne’s eyes are so big as she looks between them, and your mind is a boil of panic. You see in her face the inability to choose, and for you, cruel and terrible as it may be, there is no choice. There is no guilt for you right now, there is no logic or shame, there is only the horrible heat of fear.

You kneel before her. You clutch at her bloodied green skirts and you beg. Please, please, bring her back to me.

Then you are crying too hard to form words, so you fold yourself up at her feet and hope she listens, hope she understands.
