Mary, Humphrey, Thomas, Fanny, and Pat's lives and deaths are so interesting to me because they all particularly have a bit of an unknowing pawn of fate thing going on. Mary's use as a scapegoat, Humphrey stumbling into history because of Sophie's involvement with the plot, the orchestration of Thomas' death, Fanny's death acting as a cover up of George's own secrets, Pat's obliviousness towards Carol and Morris' affair....something something losing a game you never realized you were playing, understanding something only when it's too late. Or something like that. Do you get me
