Qing Ming Festival (清明节) is a Chinese festival honouring ancestors that is celebrated on the 15th day after the spring equinox, generally falling in early April. The main activity of the Qing Ming Festival is the cleaning or sweeping of ancestral tombs, and thus it is sometimes referred to as “Tomb Sweeping Day.”

My brother drove mum, me, my sister and youngest brother to Kong Meng San Phor Kark See Monastery (光明山普觉禅寺). There were already plenty of worshippers. The picture below shows just a corner of the temporary prayer area which is on the ground floor of the multistorey carpark. One can also engage one of the monks to come chant and pray for the deceased.

Mum bought Vegetarian Food in a tingkat, two boxes of steamed rice, fa gao (发糕), a cup each of black and milk coffee since the temple encourage worshippers to go vegetarian or fruits only. If you would like to donate the fruits used in the prayers, there are donation boxes around too.

Pink Candle Self Love Ritual
Tumblr media Tumblr media
[images descriptions: first image: a pink candle in a black, spotted small cup full of salt. Second image: the same pink candle in a cup on the metallinc shelf in front of a mirror; part of a duck shaped night lamp can be seen too.]
what is it: lighting a pink candle while you do your skincare or any other type of self care.
why: pink is the color of love and as such, also self love (& care)! Additionally, turning your self care into a little ritual can help even more to underline its importance.
how you do it: put a pink candle where you are doing your self care (ex. I put it on the bathroom mirror while I do my skincare/brushing teeth/apply hrt) and light it up. Blow it off once you've finished your self care. I like to also repeat/think the intention of self love and care while lighting it!
what to be careful of: fire safety! Put your candle where it doesn't risk to burn anything & keep an open window/change the air after you're done
