Penny is soft all over; soft arms, soft legs, soft tummy, soft skin (she loves scented lotions). She doesn’t have any tattoos or body piercings. She has some stretch marks and cellulite, especially on the backs of her thighs beneath her bum, and some around her hips and the underside of her belly.

Her eyes are a bit bigger than her stomach, so to speak. She daydreams frequently about sex with you, but her sex drive and stamina don’t quite match the appetite Penny imagines she has lol. If you’re very sexual, you could probably overwhelm and overstimulate her rather easily.

Penny has a tendency towards post-sex insomnia more than anything else. She’ll probably get up and get herself some water or juice, or lay there next to you and watch you drift off while she gently strokes your face with her fingertips.

The dreams and long, sleepless nights continue as time slowly crawls by. Weeks into months as you work on bringing life back into the old house. The demon torments anyone who tries to offer help - hiding tools, making screams far off in the bayou, even the shadows move like something evil and ugly. But you are not deterred - and simply take up the jobs yourself.

Many days are spent with you on your knees ripping up old carpets and humming along to your old radio as he stands in the doorway, his hooves clicking as he shifts his weight. You still don't have a name for him, nor does he have yours. He growls and hisses and speaks in a language that hurts whenever you try to call him anything other than 'demon'. You gave up shortly after the first nose bleed.

The next project is perhaps the most tedious and annoying. You decide to repaint the walls before installing new flooring - and every time you decide on a color, the nightmares start up again. Still you as a child, still those sharp claws digging into your shoulders. But the old woman doesn't save you again - you simply stand in the hallway with him behind you until morning arrives and the sun saves you from his touch. When you decide on a soft shade of blue, his grip doesn't seem as tight.

You decide on carpet - picking a soft gray that pairs well with the blue on the walls; it also masks the sound of his hooves, gives your brain a moment to forget he's there and watching. He's not as hostile as he was in the beginning, and you think perhaps it's time mellowing out his temper - or maybe he finally realized you're not going anywhere.

And then... you have another dream. This one is different from the others, it feels like something you're not meant to see, but your eyes won't open.

It's a battlefield, and there's a gun in your hands - but this body is not your own. "Alex" you hear a voice call, and your head involuntarily turns to greet it. "Cmon, man - we can't save them. We have to go!" You don't know who they are, or who this Alex is, but you know the words hurt him. It feels like knives shoved between the ribs and twisted with an anger no man should possess. It hurts and it burns and you feel like you're dying.

Everything moves fast and slow, a blur and crystal clear. There's pain in your left leg and then suddenly... you don't feel anything. Your eyes open and you're looking directly at the demon as he leans over you on your bed. His clawed hands braced on either side of your head, his knees pressed tightly against your hips and his tail swaying angrily. His lips curl back in a snarl as he glares down at you.

"Stay out of my head. Or else" he growls - and then, in the blink of an eye, he's gone and you're alone in the bed.

The demon doesn't disturb you for the rest of the month, but you see him in doorways and shadows. He never stays long enough for you to get a good look, but you know he's there. You almost... feel bad for him. Clearly he'd been through something traumatic as a human, and maybe it was that anger that kept him bound to this world. Privately, in the safety of your mind, you call him Alex. And you think the wallpaper matched his eyes almost perfectly.

Making peace with the demon is far harder than you could even begin to imagine. The whiskey bottle you had hung in the soul tree for him constantly shatters, and yet you always find one to replace it. It's almost a daily ritual, changing out the bottles and silently hoping this one lasts longer than the others - but it never does.

You leave out sweets and desserts for him. Bottles of strawberry jam, a pile of honeysuckle blooms, even a spare bottle of moonshine you'd found tucked away in the cupboard. It seems this type of offering is accepted - as you find a ghost orchid resting on your pillow the next time you lay down for sleep. He doesn't stomp as often, nor does his tail lash so violently. He almost seems... demure, tamed.

The first time you call him Alex is when things truly reach their peak - he bites you. Right on your shoulder, you feel his sharp teeth break skin and the smell of blood in the air and then he's gone. You're too busy tending to the wound to notice how he slinks into the bathroom behind you and places clawed hands on the sink, trapping you between his arms. "Don't call me that" he says - his voice soft and gruff; he hasn't truly spoken since that one time you'd told him to get out.

"It's your name, isn't it? Alex?" you mumble softly, tenderly wiping the blood from the bitemark, ignoring how his eyes burn into you. "Nobody's called me that for a long time" he whispers, his tail curling tightly around your leg, his head almost hesitantly nestling against the back of your head. "A thing like me doesn't deserve a name"

You pause at that, and make eye contact with him through the mirror. His eyes are the same blue as the walls that surround you - and he looks tired. But this is a tired no sleep can fix, this is the exhaustion of existance.

"I'm not human anymore. Don't call me that" he hisses again, his eyes now hard and pupils sharp - slitted like a crocodiles. "I don't want you here - why won't you just leave?! Like everyone else - just go! Get out!" he practically snarls, his voice inhuman and otherly as his words seem to claw down to your bones.

You look at him through the mirror - and you see the hurt, the fear. Turning around, you look down and finally notice why his hoofbeats sound off. Just below the knee, his left leg is metallic and skeletal - he notices your stare and shifts his body to remove it from your sight. His tail whips and he disappears, the smell of sulfur strong enough to make your eyes water.

The next time you walk outside, the whiskey bottle in the soul tree is on the ground - perfectly intact, as if someone had cut it free. You kneel down and pick it up, glancing back at the other bottles, and you notice something. All of the other bottles have slips of paper in them - names written down with words of love and warmth scrawled across. Aged by the elements yet remaining - you know what to do now.

Brown glass shines dully in the sun, held up by a thick cord and deep in the belly of the bottle lays a paper with a name carefully inked.

A House by the Woods

As a bit of a precursor, this is by no means finished, and is more of a way to practice descriptions. I plan to make a more finished version later, but for now, this is just to get something out there.

In a little sun-lit meadow just south of a deep and ancient forest lay a red brick house, slightly covered in moss and vines. Ankle-high grass waved slowly in the wind all throughout the meadow, broken up by tall flowers scattered sporadically throughout. A little way away was a shimmering creek that flowed over countless smooth pebbles. A coarse gravel path led from the stream up to the back door of the house, and out from the front of the house led a dirt road that disappeared somewhere south beyond the hills.

From the house’s open windows, the pungent scent of garlic and onions lingered in the air, a scent that was somewhere between the realms of pleasant and unpleasant. The afternoon light flowed over the tree tops and through the little gaps between the white picket fence that separated the house from the untamed wilderness. Upon the house’s thatch roof was a layer of old and decaying leaves. The house itself was a little worn, but by no means was it in disrepair. In fact, apart from the foliage growing on them, the walls were polished and clean, and the area inside the fence was well kept and orderly.

On the west side of the house lay a number of gardening tools and a few flourishing vegetable gardens, while on the east side there stood a small shed and well. There were a number of shrubs and flowers of all shapes and colors growing around the house, interspersed with small clay statuettes. At the front of the house was a large oaken door with an intricate pattern carved into the front, and on each side of the door was an arched window set neatly into the wall.

If you were to step inside, the first thing you would notice would be the hall. While not particularly grandiose, a single long red carpet led from the front door to the end of the hall. The hall had ample lighting from two small, evenly spaced hanging lanterns, and was adorned with a few tapestries depicting scenes of distant and mysterious places. On each side of the hall lay 2 separate doors which lead to bedrooms and storerooms, while the end of the hall lay a set of great double doors made of a fine spruce wood. Through these doors lay a kitchen of considerable size, with anything an aspiring chef could ever need. The kitchen had far too many implements to count, and spice racks littered the walls. There were twin stoves upon which sat a great pot, the source of the scent from before.

Beside the kitchen was the dining room, cozy in design and filled with a number of shelves. Books of all sorts covered each layer of the shelf, fantastical volumes. So great was the number that many libraries might be put to shame. In the center of the room lay the table surrounded by chairs. It was a sturdy old thing that had clearly made its way through generations. Upon it sat four earthen plates, each complimented by a set of silverware of a fanciful design that did not match the rest of the table. A pitcher filled with some manner of juice sat in the middle, ready to pour.

The most curious thing about this room was the lighting. Several candles floated about the room, seemingly of their own free will. Each one possessed a different-colored flame, and would occasionally flare up before dying back down. Of course, if you had never been to the great cities beyond the hills, this would have seemed remarkably strange, but for people there, it was quite commonplace to have things of an even stranger nature. However, out in these relatively untamed parts of the world, candles did not often float about or glow with strange vibrancies.

A note was left on Marco’s quarters door that he would be out for a few hours but he didn’t give too much details as he was off to get his hair done. His grey hairs were finally showing and well he need to get a hair cut too.

He got to barbershop the Whitebeard pirates frequented and greeted everyone as he walked in with a big smile.

“…the usual then, Marco?”, the owner asked with a smile.

“Yes…my age is finally starting to show”, he said teasingly.

“…you still look like the young man who walked through my doors 20 years ago…take a seat and I’ll get you a hot towel”, he said gently before disappearing in the back.

Marco took a seat and relaxed for a bit before the barber came in and wrapped a hot towel on his face, “…I got one of my best to take care of you today…try not to burn them”, the barber said playfully.

Marco chuckled in response, “…I’ll try not to”.

His face with still covered with the towel when someone else would come and draped a cape over him.

“…okay, so I’ll be doing your hair today, I’m Y/N by the way”, they said as they ran their fingers through his hair slowly.

“…that’s a beautiful name, I’m in your care”, he replied as he enjoyed the feeling of their fingers running through his hair, it made him relax even more.

Y/N smiled a little as they looked down at the man with his face wrapped in a hot towel, “…so just the roots and a haircut?”, they asked gently.

“Yes and a shave later on…”, he replied.

“…got it…I’ll be right back”, Y/N said as they went to get some product and their tools.

Marco waited patiently before he would feel them start trimming his hair and shaving it to his usual style.

The towel was then removed and it took some time for his eyes to adjust before he slipped on his glasses just so he could see Y/N. His jaw dropped a little as he looked at their reflection in the mirror in front of him.

“…is the length okay or do we want to go shorter?”, they asked as they ran their fingers through his hair again just to show him and make sure he was satisfied.

“Y-yes…it’s perfect”, he said as he gulped a little.

Y/N smiled and nodded, “…I’ll start with your color then”.

During the entire process, he couldn’t take his eyes off Y/N. They really peaked his interest.

“So, Y/N…you’ve been doing hair for a while then?”, he asked out of curiosity.

“…not really but it’s something I’m good at so I thought starting a career in it wouldn’t be a bad idea”, Y/N replied gently with a smile.

“Yes, you’re very good if you get to work here…the owner has quite the interesting clientele…”, Marco said with a weak smile.

“…a very interesting clientele”, Y/N replied with a smirk.

He chuckled in response, “…are you from this island?”.

“Born and raised…”, Y/N replied gently as they began his close shave.

“…hmm…you must know where to get the best meals then”, he murmured, trying to be as still as possible so that they didn’t cut him by accident.

“I do…it’s not too far from here too”, they said gently, “….maybe after I’m done with your hair, I could take you there…it’s almost my lunch break anyway”.

“Oh yeah? That sounds fun…”, he said with a smile as he internally grinned even more.

Once his hair was all done, he thanked Y/N and paid the owner before waiting out for them so that they could go for lunch together.

Y/N came out in no time and walked with him to local restaurant that apparently had the best food. They ordered their meals and some drinks.

“…so I’ve heard you’re from the Whitebeard pirates…is he really as cool as everyone around here says he is?”, Y/N asked as they sipped their drink.

“Oyaji? Yeah, he’s amazing! You should meet him sometime…he comes here every now and then”, Marco said with a big smile, clearly very fond of his father-figure and captain.

“…I’ve always been a little nervous…don’t want to be too bold or rude with someone like that”, they admitted.

“…he likes bold people, so just be yourself and tell him you’ll do his hair for free”, he said teasingly.

Y/N blushed at that and then laughed at the realization of what he just said, “…and you’re certain I wouldn’t get killed for saying that?! You’re the worst”.

Marco chuckled in response, “…alright, let’s not say that then…I might have to save you if you do”.

Y/N smiled a little in response, “…you might just have to…”.

He looked into their eyes and leaned in a little more, “…hey, are you free next weekend? We’ll be visiting the island…and I’d like to see you again”.

He needed to shoot his shot before he lost his opportunity!

Progress! 🎉🎉🎉I have been spending yesterday and today working on catching up on my yarn organization. I've got the ravelry stash page that I'm updating as I finally get pictures of my yarn. I've also been getting all of my WIPS photographed and all the details filled in.

I've also been making a sample book as I sort through everything. The cover saying is one I'm trying to focus on this year.🤞

I've been stocking up on these stackable crates from Joanns so I can actually organize everything by type of yarn. I got through most of my acrylics, all but 3 skeins of my cotton, all of my bamboo, all of my crochet cotton, and a few skeins of my wool (Ignore the messy tool cart. That is next weeks project.)

I think I will keep the majority of my wool and my unspun fiber in the cedar chest that I had everything squashed in before. Which was the main kick in the pants to stashbust and organize in the first place. I couldn't close the lid even sitting on it. 🤦‍♀️

I don't want to leave the wool out because I don't want to risk carpet beetles (aka the devil bugs). And now I can fit my fiber braids in the chest, too.

Projectwise, I finished my baby hat earlier this week, including weaving in the ends and washing it.🎉 And I switched to the second color on my next baby blanket. I also cast on the Stonechurch shawl, bringing my knitting wips to 6. I finally found a match to the copper corgi yarn I got last year at the Smoky Mountain Spinnery at my LYS Dixie Knits. I'm using Blue Bachelor Buttons as the main and Bad Sheep Yarn's Darjeeling Tea as the accent.

Overall, it was a very productive few days!
