Rihanna featuring Jay-Z - Umbrella 2007
"Umbrella" is a song by Barbadian singer Rihanna, released worldwide in March 2007 as the lead single and opening track from her third studio album Good Girl Gone Bad (2007). Jay-Z co-wrote the song with its producers Tricky Stewart and Kuk Harrell, with additional writing contributions coming from Terius "The-Dream" Nash. "Umbrella" was written with American pop singer Britney Spears in mind. Stewart and Nash thought that Spears, who had "her personal life … a little out of control" at the time, needed a hit as a musical comeback, and sent a copy of the demo to Spears' management. However, Spears did not hear of the song because her label Jive rejected it, claiming they had enough songs for her to record. It was also given to British singer-songwriter Taio Cruz, who failed to convince his record company Mercury to release it. American R&B singer Mary J. Blige was next on the list. However, Blige failed to hear the song in full due to her obligations to the Grammys at the time and "had to sign off on the record before her reps could accept it".
"Umbrella" received universal critical acclaim upon release and was a global success, topping the charts in 19 countries such as Australia, Canada, Germany, Spain, Ireland, Norway, and Switzerland. It managed to stay atop the UK Singles Chart for 10 consecutive weeks, the longest run at number one for any single of that decade, and is also one of the few songs to top the chart for at least 10 weeks. As one of the highest digital debuts in the US at the time, it remained atop of the US Billboard Hot 100 for seven consecutive weeks. In February 2023, the song re-entered the US Billboard Hot 100 following Rihanna's performance at the half-time show of Super Bowl LVII, peaking at number 37. Worldwide the song has sold more than 6.6 million copies, making it one of the best selling singles of all time.
Entertainment Weekly ranked the song number one on the 10 Best Singles of 2007, while Rolling Stone and Time listed the song at number three on the 100 Best Songs of 2007. It won Video of the Year and Monster Single of the Year at the 2007 MTV Video Music Awards and Most Watched Video on MuchMusic.com at MuchMusic Video Awards. "Umbrella" is also a playable song in the 2012 video game Just Dance 4. And, as the majority of rebloggers have happily stated, actor Tom Holland delightfully danced to it on MTV's Lip Sync Battle.
"Umbrella" received a total of 86,5% yes votes!

🇬🇧 A British goth 🥀
For this design, I took inspiration from goth subculture which originally from the UK itself ^_^
(She has 4 moles which represents England, Scotland, Wales, and Northern Ireland)
Also
UKtopus 🐙
UK has 8 extra appendages on her back which each of them has an independent brain. The limbs (not tentacles, limbs) can be controlled to move, capture something / someone… and can move by themselves if they separate from her
Octopuses have 3 hearts btw! So I gave her 2 huge heart shaped earrings and 1 similar heart necklace (I suppose she had her necklace stolen in the art above so she got mad lol XD)

This might sounds silly but the Union Jack looks like it has 8 lines, octopus has 8 limbs, so I thought it’d be fun to make UK as one ;)

Air – Lucifer
Water – Leviathan
Health – Verrine
Destruction – Amducious
Life – Unsere
Death – Euronymous
(Some people may disagree with this list, though. Or they may reorder the list with other elements.)
"Tasa Reme Laris Satan - Ave Satanis"
Satan, for the demonolators, is the all, the ether. Many New Agers call his energy “the source.” He is associated with everything: all seasons, months, directions — you get the idea.
He is the eternal spirit, the divine that we are all part of and to which we all have a connection. Satan is known to appear as a wise old man with silver hair and black eyes.
Honestly, it's hard to write about him without sounding like you're repeating yourself over and over again. "The All" is the perfect description for him. He is known for assisting in spiritual enlightenment and guidance.
Direction: Center/All;
Color: All;
Months: All;
Seasons All;
Rituals: any
Flereous
"Ganic Tasa Fubin Flereous"
Flereous is the elemental demon of fire! He is seen as destructive, but also creative. This is because although fire is a destructive force, it also provides us with life in the form of the sun. We cannot exist without fire.
Flereous is associated with warm things and ideas, including the direction of the south, warm colors (red, orange), June, and summer. He is commonly invoked in demonic baptism rituals, action rituals, love rituals, and at the summer solstice.
Flereous is seen as a demon with an excellent balance between the physical, mental and spiritual. He is also associated with the spark of life from which we all come, connecting his energy to that of Satan.
Working with Flereous is a transformative work. He helps demonolators become more confident in themselves and their practice. The best way to describe this transformation is to say that he molds the practitioner into a tiger.
Direction: South;
Color: Red, Orange;
Month: June;
Season: Summer;
Ritual: Baptism, action, love, solstice
Belial
"Lirach Tasa Vefa Wehlc Belial"
Belial is the elemental demon of the earth! He is a demon of the physical and mental, bringing awareness to the beauty in all things.
Belial has associations with colder, earthly elements, including the direction north, the colors brown, black, and green, December, and winter. He is commonly invoked in winter solstice rituals, rituals of new beginnings, and initiations.
Belial is a demon of independence and self-development. He assists in professional growth and the achievement of new titles. He reminds us to experience the world in whatever way we wish, without giving in to pressure from others.
In other beliefs, Belial is associated with fire. Do some research and find out which one resonates with you the most!
Direction: North;
Colors: Green, Brown, Black;
Month: December;
Season: Winter;
Ritual: initiation, new beginnings, winter solstice.
Lucifer
"Renich Tasa Uberaca Blasa Icar Lucifer"
Lucifer is an air elemental demon and possibly the most popular on this list. As an air elemental, he is a great advocate for freedom and one’s own path. He is a wise demon and often shares his knowledge with his devotees.
Lucifer is a symbol of divine masculinity. He is also a demon of the spiritual and mental, helping lost souls find their way. He is called the "bringer of light" because light represents the freedom he grants to all who seek it.
Lucifer has associations with spring, being linked to the colors white and yellow, the month of March and the rituals of enlightenment, initiation and the spring equinox.
When you come into contact with Lucifer, expect to be encouraged to think for yourself. He helps you connect and find your own path. Some see him as having feminine and androgynous aspects, though he traditionally represents the masculine. Do your research and decide for yourself what makes the most sense to you!
Direction: East;
Colors: White Yellow;
Month: March;
Season: Spring;
Ritual: Enlightenment, spring equinox, initiations.
Leviathan
"Jaden Tasa Hoet Naca Leviathan"
Leviathan is the elemental demon of water! Being an aquatic being, he is associated with emotions and judgment. He is an extremely androgynous demon, being referred to as both empress and emperor.
Leviathan rules over everything related to the mind, especially emotional and mental strength. He aids in the development of resistance against the currents of fate. Leviathan also rules over the abyss and the void, and is called the "abyssal serpent."
Its elements are autumnal, but it extends beyond that aesthetic. Its colors are blue and gray, its month is September, its season is fall, and its rituals include emotion, initiation, fertility, healing, and the autumn equinox.
When working with Leviathan, expect to confront your deepest emotions, especially those you’ve been hiding. He is a powerful draconian demon who demands respect, so be courteous when communicating with him.
Leviathan is also the demon of judgment. When invoked in destructive magic, it is said to strip away the target's defenses so that the magic can reach them.
Direction: West;
Colors: Blue, Gray;
Month: September;
Season: Autumn;
Ritual: emotions, initiation, equinox, healing, fertility.
Verrine
"Elan Typan Verrine"
Verrine is a creative demon, inspiring his followers to discover ways to heal and heal themselves and others. He is a great teacher when it comes to overcoming trauma and scars from the past.
Verrine is the health demon! There aren't many sources on him but he is associated with healing and well-being, most often invoked in these types of rituals. He is associated with the northwest direction and the colors blue and white. His month is November, at the end of autumn.
Direction: Northwest;
Colors: Blue, white;
Month: November;
Season: Late Autumn;
Ritual: healing.
Amducious
"Denyen Valocur Avage Secore Amducious"
Amducious is the destroyer within the Dukante hierarchy. While this title may suggest a dark demon, destruction on the Left Hand Path is seen as something positive and necessary for growth.
It is associated with the southeast direction, the color orange, the month of May, the end of spring, and rituals of war, action, and the removal of obstacles.
In the Complete Book of Demonolatry, S. Connolly writes that Amducious represents "the mastery of the will over the physical." While it may seem destructive, it teaches self-control and personal transformation.
He is not a demon who promotes war, but rather a mentor who helps overcome mental and emotional blocks.
Direction: Southeast.
Colors: Orange;
Month: May;
Season: Late Spring;
Ritual: war, action, dispel old.
Unsere
"Unsere Tasa Lirach On Ca Ayar"
Unsere is the demoness of life (and witchcraft)! Just as Lucifer symbolizes masculinity, Unsere represents femininity. She is the manifestation of life from birth through all its stages.
She is associated with the northeast direction, the colors green and white, the month of February, the end of winter and rituals of motherhood, wisdom and patience.
Unsere is said to appear to women at the time of childbirth to breathe life into their newborns. She wears a cow-hooded cloak, symbolically connecting her to these animals.
Not only does she rule birth, but she also reminds us to enjoy the little moments in life. As you work with her, expect to be encouraged to slow down and appreciate the present more.
Treat her with respect and avoid harsh language. Unsere may be serious, but she also has a gentle side. By the end of your work with her, you will find that you have learned to live more fully.
Direction: Northeast;
Colors: Green and White;
Month: February;
Season: Late Winter;
Ritual: Wisdom, patience, motherhood.
Euronymous
“Ayar secore on ca Euronymous”
Euronymous is the demon of death. While the energy of death can literally mean the end of life, it can also represent transformation. Within Left Hand Path practices: death, destruction, and similar concepts often symbolize change and renewal, and not necessarily literal harm. Thus, Euronymous is not only the demon of death but also of rebirth.
However, his essence is directly linked to the energy of death. He is often invoked by those preparing for necromancy practices or any work related to the world of the dead. Some people ask Euronymous to impregnate them with his energy before rituals involving spirits, so that they can better accustom themselves to this vibration. He is also called upon for funerals, guiding the souls of death for the place they'll rest.
Euronymous is associated with the transition from summer to winter, reflecting the passing of the seasons and the cyclical transformation from life to death.
He is described as a shadow, a specter, or an old man with translucent white hair and white eyes. He is said to carry with him the Book of the Dead.
Euronymous doesn't have much information independent of his Greek associations, so if you're interested, it's worth researching that side of him further.
Northwest. Colors:
Black and White;
Month: October;
Season: Late Autumn;
Ritual: New beginnings, death, rebirth, celebration of death, Halloween.
⠀⠀
Working with them
In Demonolatry, the magician does not use a triangle or a circle of protection, as contact with these energies will not be aggressive or hostile, and we will not need banishments and threats, here we work with partnership and mutual respect.
Here, evocation (the act of binding them as is done in goetia) is seen as disrespectful. The ideal is for the magician to magnetize the demon's energy to achieve what he wants by joining forces in an invocation, which is when the magician and the demon will interact by exchanging energies.
When calling the demons into your ritual circle, the traditional way to do it is to use the enn, or an invocation of your own devise, and use the ritual dagger or your hand to draw the following in the air in front of you, starting at the arrow and ending at the dot:

The invocation symbol above is often refered to as the ZD or DZ sigil. It is also used as a sigil representing Satan. Within the ZD are nine points representing the nine demonic divinities. The symbol is one fluid motion and is encircled as a sigil to represent the whole encircling all its parts.
It starts with the closest point of the arrow with Unsere, then it's Lucifer, then it's Flereous, then it's Verrine, then it's Belial, then Amducious, then Leviathan, Satan and finally it ends at the point with Eurynomous.
The ZD is also employed to invoke each Demon, no matter which one, with respect to the nine. Some common courtesies (to avoid disrespect toward the Demons) when invoking: Don't command or be aggressive with the demons!!!! Nor stab the ritual blade into the air!!
Ritual tools
This is, by no means, something you must really have. Demonolatry is your path and your own, those tools or working this way might not be for you, and that's ok because you can adapt yourself and your tools to do what you want.
Though, according to Paulo - Guia de Demonolatria, those are the tools every demonolater should have:
"The tools we will need are a temple, an altar covered with a black cloth, items that represent the four elements on the altar, and a dagger or athame or knife with a black handle.
The dagger is to draw in the air a symbol of opening and closing the pillars of each elemental demon. The color of the handle is black, because this color attracts and concentrates energies more easily. If you are in doubt, go out on a sunny day wearing black clothes. A black shirt will attract all the light wave frequencies, causing heat. Candles and incense according to the correspondence of the demon you are going to work with.
A metal bowl to burn the seal and the request. Burning the demon's seal with your blood, or sexual fluid, in Demonolatry is not seen as disrespectful to the demon, but rather signifies sending a small amount of your vital energy to the entity transmuted by the element of fire.
In the ritual, it is advisable to burn the seal and also another piece of paper with your requests."

Work acquaintance, ostensibly as a joke about me and my interests, asked if I had any educational reading recommendations about "Santa's sleigh"
So, to pass the time, I thought we'd have a dialogue about the history of urban vehicularization, pedestrian encounters with vehicles, and control of space and mobility, through the "vehicle" (pun intended) of a case study of carriages and sleighs in eighteenth-century Amsterdam.
---
And none of this is to be taken seriously, I'm just saying words recreationally.
But Amsterdam is important in the history of urban space. It was the site of early speed limit regulations for vehicles: In 1681, a bylaw limited vehicle speed to walking pace (stapvoets), and a 1696 deposition describes the servants of a sheriff stopping a driver for driving too fast. By the 1770s, the sleigh-man's guild had 285 sleigh-men active year-round, not counting unregistered personal sleighs, or those who used sleighs over snow in winter. The (colonialism-fueled) expansion of the city's infrastructure (in the context of maritime trade and East India Company profits) allowed sudden, dramatic architectural expansion, though there was uneven adoption of new transportation methods of wheeled vehicles in newly-built edges of the urban area (where textile factories were situated) while maintaining the architecture of the dense streets of the medieval city core, so that sleighs and carriages existed side-by-side in a way that was distinct from the streets of Paris and London.
In 1790, visiting German scientist Georg Forster described Amsterdam as such: "The whole day long, a continuous thunderous roaring dominates. The manifold carriages of mayors, councilors, state officials, directors of the East India Company, physicians and the lavishly rich, the unremitting transport of goods [...] obstruct the way of passage and cause a constant yelling and rumbling [...]."
But history scholar Bob Pierik (in an article that opens with Forster's lamentation) describes how Amsterdam was an early site of "vehicularization" and related street regulations, and he finds this notable and worth considering because it anticipated and predated the more famous and more widely discussed urban regulations and policing of properly-industrialized nineteenth-century London, which allows us to perhaps rethink the historiography and "teleological narrative" of modernity.
Since vehicles, pedestrians, and their attendant regulations were experimented with in the Dutch metropole decades before the mechanized transportation and "politics of paving" in Victorian Britain, there were what Pierik calls "multiple modernities" existing simultaneously in the streets of early modern Amsterdam (a "proper metropolis" at that time).
---
Evidently, "sleighs had been an important part of street life in Amsterdam long before coaches and chaises." Indeed, Pierik invokes the observation of English author Samuel Ireland from 1789, describing a visit to Amsterdam: "[C]arriages with wheels, except for the use of the nobility and gentry, were not suffered here for many years […]. A sleigh, as the Dutch term it (the French a traineau or pot de chambre) is now in use: it is the body of a coach, without wheels […]."
And guess what? They dragged those sleighs over pavement. No wheels, but only "an oily cloth (a smeerlap) was used to smoothen the passage."
A piece of rhyming graffiti, written on a wagon, and collected by Hieronymus Sweerts between 1683 and 1690, reads:
Who drives fast make a quick start
But easily loses their horse and cart
Careful and sen-
Sible is a good carriage man.
(For all excerpts and arguments here, by the way, see: Bob Pierik. "Coaches, Sleighs, and Speed in the Street: "Vehicularization" in Early Modern Amsterdam." Journal of Urban History, Volume 50, Issue 4. First published online 2 September 2022. All of this research was done by Pierik.)
Along with sleighs for transporting goods and products, there were sleighs for personal transport: a toeslee (closed sleigh) and koetsslee (coach sleigh).
---
And what of the pedestrian? Early on, at least in the Netherlands, vehicles were perceived as dangerous to pedestrians, and it could apparently be seen as arrogant to flaunt aristocratic wealth by gallavanting around in an expensive personal carriage in the city center, and so regulations and public opinion seem to indicate that pedestrian right-of-way was prioritized. An Amsterdam bylaw from 1528 indicated that drivers of sleighs could not sit upon their vehicle but had to walk beside it, because:
"[D]riving caused great disorder, often mixed with malice, as people, specifically women and children, are at great danger of being driven over."
An important city bylaw in 1634 banned the use of coaches within city walls. But the prohibition was gradually loosened, such that conflict between coach-drivers and pedestrians was frequently mentioned in depositions. But by the 1730s, something had changed. In Pierik's words:
[Quote.] Pedestrians now shared space with vehicles and had a new responsibility to protect themselves […]. [T]he language used in Bicker’s chronicle is very telling: In 1734, exactly a century after the vehicle ban, he wrote of a coachman who “had the misfortune of driving over a poor woman who died shortly thereafter.” Here, rather than the “women and children first” rhetoric that we have seen in the sixteenth-century regulations on the sleigh-men in the previous section, the coachman was also presented as a victim, and the right of the coach’s presence on the streets remained undisputed. Similarly, in 1746, Bicker Raije wrote of a nine- or ten-year-old boy who was “negligently watching around him” moments before he was killed by a sleigh horse. [End quote.]
The trend continued, and in the nineteenth century, British authorities would notoriously enact sweeping policies to control mobility in and access to urban space, in ways that prioritized "economic" activity while reinforcing class hierarchies. In fact, Pierik sees this vehicularization of the early modern city as "at once a civilizing and a colonizing project" in the same vein as what Koslofsky described as "nocturnalization," or the way in which, in London and Paris, "the elites of the court and the city colonized the urban night" with their affordance of transportation and a mobility not always shared with those lower in the hierarchies.
---
We are, of course, reminded of another aristocratic figure who, traveling through the night, engaged in this civilizing mission of nocturnalization and colonized public space with their vehicle. Someone who, like the early modern vehicle regulations of Amsterdam, is associated with Dutch tradition. Someone whose persona is closely connected to mobility, even hyper-mobility, drawn forth by their sleigh:
Santa Claus.

The Run (Chibs x Plus Size Reader) - Chapter 3
Currently working on chapter 4 :) Warning: Spoilers probably
You'd been working at Teller-Morrow for two days, and honestly? It was great. You'd met Tig and Opie officially, having seen them briefly during the night of your attack. Chibs hadn't been around you very much, but that was okay. He was busy. You understood. He was an important part of the club, and an important part of the garage.
You'd told Half-Sack you simply couldn't call him that anymore, learning that his name was Kip. He'd been watching you for a while, in the protective way, not creepy way. He talked about the girl he was interested in, and mentioned that she'd had to leave. After a couple of beers, you learned she was in Ireland now. So that was fun.
But you missed Chibs. You'd really only known him for a day and a half, but there was just something about him that…ugh. You just really liked. You needed to get that schoolgirl crush under control, or else things would just get worse for you. You focused on how put out he seemed to be when he had learned you'd not only gone to the store, but also the garage, after he'd explicitly told you, and Juice, that you needed to rest and relax. If you could focus on that, you could hopefully focus on how he wasn't the boss of you, and on how you didn't need to be crushing on some bossy old man. But still…you missed Chibs.
Your face was starting to heal, as were your ribs. You were pretty positive nothing had been broken after all. You still had some nasty bruising, but it was fading day after day.
It was on your fourth day there that something horrible happened. A van had been brought to the yard, not a van you recognized at least, and Chibs had attempted to start it. In the next moment, he was running, and then flying through the air. The van quite literally exploded, bursting into a fireball.
But all you could focus on was Chibs, laying on the ground, bleeding from the head. You'd rushed out of the office, joining the crowd of people, trying to hold back tears. It wasn't just because it was Chibs, but it was obvious this was another attack on the club. Was this part of your fault for not being able to give them a lead on who was bothering them? Was Chibs hurt because you couldn't remember anything about your attackers?
After that, you didn't have anyone to protect you, and that was okay. You agreed that they needed to focus on getting revenge or at least zeroing in on who did this to Chibs. You'd thrown yourself into working in the office, sometimes reorganizing things you'd just fixed, and other times double checking receipts from weeks before. It wasn't until the third day after the explosion that Gemma finally called you out on it.
“Alright, what's going on with you?” You looked at her for a moment, trying not to say the first thing that came to your mind.
“It's my fault, isn't it?” That didn't work. “The explosion.”
“What- why would you think that?” She took off her glasses, looking bewildered as she sat back in her chair.
I never remembered anything useful. They couldn't go after anyone after my attack, and then this happened.” You frowned, sitting down in the chair next to her. “If I'd have been any help, this wouldn't have happened.”
“Hey, you don't know that. This isn't on you.” She gave you a serious look, but you felt tears welling up anyway. She got up, suddenly, closing both of the doors to the office. “I'm going to tell you something, and it doesn't leave this room. Got it?”
“Yeah, I got it.”
“Before you were attacked, I was attacked too. They wanted to send a message to the club and went after me.” Your eyes were wide, and a tear strayed down your cheek. “I was beaten and raped, but I didn't say anything. If we want to blame anyone for not stopping them before Chibs, or before you, then you blame me.”
“I could never blame you.” You rushed it out, tears spilling over. For her sake, more than your own. “Jesus, Gemma…are you ever going to tell them?”
“I don't know. But remember, it's my story to tell.” Another serious look, and you believed every veiled threat behind it.
“I promise not to say a word to anyone.” She nodded, reaching out and taking hold of your hand.
“They're going to get everything taken care of, sweetie. Chibs is doing okay in the hospital, you're healing, I'm healing.” It didn't seem like there were frequent soft moments with Gemma Teller-Morrow, but you knew to appreciate them when they happened.
------------------
The next day, you'd told Gemma you would sit at the hospital with Chibs until she could arrive. Tara had gotten you into intensive care under the guise of being family. You'd baked again, bringing a ziploc with you in case he was allowed the treat. You had a smile on your face, trying not to feel giddy about seeing the Scot again. When you opened the door, he wasn't alone.
“Oh! Uh, I'm sorry. I can…come back later.” You were awkwardly stood in the cracked doorway, looking between the handsome patient and beautiful woman that was very, very close to him.
“Y/N? What're you doin’ here, lass?” His voice made your heart soar in a way it absolutely shouldn't.
“I told Gemma I would sit up here until she could come, but…I'm sorry, um, I'm Y/N.” You stepped into the room, extending your hand to the woman. She looked between you and Chibs before taking your hand.
“I'm Fiona.” She had an accent as well, and as much as you were hoping she was a sister or other family member, you had a bad feeling.
“Nice to meet you. Um, oh! Here!” You pulled the ziploc of cookies out of your bag, shoving it at her. “I brought these. In case. I didn't mean to interrupt-”
“You didn't interrupt.” Chibs' voice was gruff, and he was looking at you with lidded eyes. There wasn't a hint of a smile on his face like you'd grown used to.
“Well, anyway. I'll leave you to it-”
“How're you gettin’ home?”
“I walked here so I'll probably just walk-”
“You walked on your own?” His voice sounded angry.
“Yeah, I mean…the guys are busy. I just-”
“Your face still looks like tha’ and you decided to walk here. Alone.” You frowned, feeling your face heating up. You hadn't come for a scolding, and especially not one in front of the beautiful stranger.
“Yes. Not that it's your business.” You could tell he had more to say, but he closed his eyes instead. You looked at Fiona, unable to read the expression on her face. “I'm going now. Sorry. I'll…Gemma will be here later.”
You didn't wait for either of them to say anything, if they were even going to. You didn't need to be scolded like a child. That's probably what he saw you as, anyway. Just a child. That was so embarrassing. You were pining and he was just thinking of you as a kid. Probably an annoying one, at that.
--------------
His wife. That's who Fiona was. You should've known. There was no way someone like him wouldn't have a beautiful woman in his life. You were such an idiot.
After hearing that news from Gemma, and overhearing that bad things, and people, accompanied that woman, you just…didn't know how to feel. You needed to get over Chibs. He had a wife, and Gemma made it sound like he still loved her, even if they were estranged. You couldn't come between love. You didn't know if there was a way for them to be together again, but he had a family. You were no homewrecker.
By the time Chibs was getting out of the hospital, you were almost fully healed. Your cheek might be scarred permanently, but it would be small. Your skin was almost back to the shade it was supposed to be, just a small amount of the ugly yellow holding on. You wanted to look good when he saw you again, and that made you hate yourself. You always fell for the wrong men, and you'd hoped that would've changed. Instead, you wore a low cut blouse and your best fitting jeans in hope to grab his attention.
Your inner turmoil would kill you. You wanted to be with him, to know him, so badly. But Fiona…you couldn't forget her. You wished you'd never met her, never knew he had a wife. You would've heard, eventually, from Gemma anyway, but in your fantasy world there was no wife. No gorgeous, Irish wife.
You'd seen them arrive from across the lot, but they were heading for the clubhouse. You weren't part of that world, not really. You didn't dare follow. Instead, you created work for yourself in any way you could. The third new pot of coffee in the last hour must have been too far.
“I'm going to fire you.” Gemma's voice startled you.
“What?”
“If you don't stop, I'm going to fire you.” She sighed, looking at you, exasperated. “You can't let Fiona scare you off.”
“I'm not letting her-”
“You like Chibs, right?” Lips pursed and cheeks pink, you nodded. “Then get over Fiona. Make your move.”
“I can't just make a move! He doesn't see me like that.”
“Honey, you're a young, attractive thing with a pussy and tits. He sees you like that.” She seemed to get enjoyment in your shocked expression.
“You sound like one of those guys!”
“But I'm not wrong. You're a sweet girl, you'd be good for him. He deserves something sweet for once.” She seemed genuine when she said that, and it made you think.
You were messy. You had baggage that didn't need to be shared. You were sweet enough, sure, but you would only taint him further, not fix anything. You were sure about that. You messed up everything you touched, and you couldn't do that to Chibs. He was a good man. Like Gemma said, he deserved something sweet for once, and that just…you weren't what he needed.
“Come on.” She stood, jerking her head for you to come with her. Standing, you followed. Chibs had entered the garage, immediately being swept into a hug and kiss by Gemma. “Welcome home, sweetie.”
“Gemma. Thanks for everythin’.” He grinned at the older woman, but then his eyes fell to you. You were standing a few feet back. You offered an uncomfortable smile and wave, focusing more on trying to keep your heart from leaping out of your chest.
“Hey, Chibs. You're looking…well.” You tried not to visibly cringe at the way you'd said it. For a moment he simply looked at you with his brows raised, but then he was laughing and closing the distance between you. You didn't hesitate to hug him back, eyes closing for a moment. He was safe.
“Thanks, lass. You're lookin’ much better as well.” He smirked as he pulled back, and you tried to suppress a blush. He pat you on the back as he pulled away, turning back to the guys. Gemma cleared her throat, nodding her head to him.
If there was ever a time you were going to do something, now was it. Your window of opportunity was closing. Were you going to mess up a perfect man? Or were you going to hate yourself for depriving yourself of anything good?
Ah.
Fuck it.
Grabbing his kutte, you'd finally really learned the term, you pulled him back towards you. Using his surprise to your advantage, your hands held the front of his kutte, pulling him down as you surged up to kiss him. It was a little weird at first, and when he didn't respond in any way, you started to pull back. It was his hand suddenly tangling in your hair and holding you in place that made you sigh in relief. Wolf whistles and cheering filled the garage, and you pulled back with a shy smile. You smoothed your hands along his collar, eyes staring at his chest instead of his eyes.
“Right. Um, ‘m glad you're okay.”
“Righ’.” He had that devilishly handsome smirk on his face again. He backed up a little, a hint of confusion still etched on his face. “We need to talk la'er.”
“Okay.” You nodded, watching as he walked away. The guys pat him on the back, him shoving them in return.
“Good girl.” Gemma smirked at you, walking back into the office.
----------
You didn't know when the next time you'd see Chibs was. Everything was getting more and more hectic as the days went on. You caught glimpses of him from time to time, but there was never any time to exchange more than idle pleasantries.
When the club went on lock down, you weren't sure how you fit in. Other than working in the garage, and the one kiss you'd shared with Chibs, you didn't have anything to do with them. Attack aside, anyway.
“I'm really just taking up space here. Are you sure there's not someone more important that should-”
“You're part of this family, whether you think you are or not.” Gemma cut you off, for the third time that day. How many times could you say the same thing before she finally hit you? Probably not one more.
“Y/N.” Chibs’ voice was like music playing. You immediately perked up, and maybe that was embarrassing, but it was too late. He jerked his head, pulling you to a more private area. If that even existed anymore. “You doin’ okay, lass?”
“Yeah. Yeah, I'm fine. Kind of a weird situation to be in but I've dealt with worse.” You joked, shrugging. He breathed a laugh, wiping a hand along his beard. “I was telling Gemma-”
“I know. You're crazy for thinkin’ you don’ belong here.” You blushed slightly, somehow knowing he'd say something like that.
“Well, maybe I am crazy-”
“Lass, I…we need to cha’ abou’ the kiss.” Your heart dropped into your stomach.
“Right. Ah, I'm sorry about that. Gemma…I shouldn't have…”
“S'not tha’ you shouldn’ have. S'jus’...a bad time.” You nodded your head, feeling like your heart was breaking.
“Yeah, I get that. I know everything's crazy right now, and Fiona-”
“Fiona's go’ nothin’ ta do wit’ i’.” He cut you off, frowning. Your face matched his.
“She's your wife, Chibs. You love her.” It wasn't a question, not with how you saw his feelings in his eyes. Not when you'd heard Gemma talk about them.
“She's mah wife, aye, but she's no’ mine anymore. No’ really.”
“But if she could be?” That had him silent. You could tell he didn't know what to say to that. You nodded your head, giving him a soft smile before leaning up to kiss his cheek. “Be safe out there, okay?”
“Okay.” He agreed, backing away from you. It looked like he wanted to say more, but he didn't, simply leaving.
“What was that?” Gemma came up beside you, watching the man walk away.
“It was him telling me we can't be together.” You gave her a small, if not sad, smile. “It's okay. I knew I shouldn't have kissed him and everything. It's a bad time.”
“Did he say that?”
“Yeah, he did. He still loves Fiona, too.” You saw the older woman roll her eyes and heard her sigh.
“You've got to get over Fiona. They can't be together.”
“Why? She came here to check on him and-”
“And she brought nothing but trouble with her.” You didn't know what that meant. “Listen, after everything with Zobelle is over, have another talk with him.”
--------
Lockdown was fine, it went by faster than you had expected it to. You knew some of the kids from when you'd taught their classes, so you helped them with homework or coloring. When everything was done, you thought for a moment that you'd be offered a new gig as a babysitter from a few of the parents.
Back in your own apartment, you'd actually gotten used to the company, the chaos. Your small apartment felt huge and empty, and it was empty. You knew Gemma had a bird, maybe you should get a bird. You kind of preferred something fluffier, less wings and beaks, but a bird could do.
A knock at your door startled you out of your bird musings. There shouldn't be any threats anymore, to you, anyway, but your stomach still felt nauseous. You looked through the peephole, shocked when you saw your favorite Scotsman on the other side of the door. You didn't hesitate any longer to open the door.
“Chibs? What are you doing here?” You'd barely stepped back before he was pushing his way into your apartment. Closing the door, you turned to face him, only to find yourself back against it. His lips were on yours before you could even blink, one of his hands cradling your jaw, the other on the door next to your head.
“I don’ have a lot of time, but I needed ta see you again.” He barely separated himself from you, his thumb tracing your lower lip.
“Um, what…why…?”
“I need ta tell you the truth. Some truth, a’ least.” You simply waited for him to continue. “The man who gave me these scars, the man who took mah wife from me…he's here. I don’ know if he'd do anythin’ to ya if he thought ye meant anythin’ to me. We still aren’ on the grea'est of terms.”
“So…that's why it's not a good time?” You swallowed hard, your brain working on nothing but the part where you may or may not mean something to Chibs. “Fiona-”
“Isn’ mine ta have.”
“I'm not worried about that guy, Chibs. I got my shit rocked when you barely knew my name.” You smiled slightly. “Anyway, with your hospital stay, and how busy you've all been with Zobelle, you really barely know me. I'd be a horrible bargaining chip.”
“You sell yourself shor’, lass.” He chuckled, shaking his head. He kissed you again, more need to it than before. This time when he broke away, he pressed his forehead to yours. “I have ta go.”
“Then go.” You barely breathed out. Still, he didn't move. “If it's a club thing…”
“Aye, i’ is.”
“You should go before something bad happens.”
“Aye.”
Still, neither of you moved.
“I'll still be here.” You kissed his cheek this time. “Go. I can wait.”
“You're a good one, darlin'.” He finally backed off from you, letting you off of the door.
“Well, I don't know about that.” You smirked, tucking hair behind your ear. You opened the door again, and he stepped out. “Be safe out there.”
“You too.” With a tight smile, he was gone.

I think Arthur’s origins are just soooo interesting! Especially his mother’s ties to the land - and then passing along to him and his brothers. I wonder if Arthur was a surprise to her? She already had 3 children in that time, what could another mean for her? What would raising 4 immortal children be like whilst also fending off invaders?
The usual caveat when I'm this far back into history and have to use archaeology and just general story telling to fill in detail: this is not a history book but perhaps just better informed than average historical fantasy.
I think Arthur was a surprise! And he’s a very welcome one at first. Her first three children are columns holding up her power. Brigantia was either a confederation of tribes united under a more powerful ruler or a series of clans and septs that just spread really far and got really important with an unusual amount of centralization by the time of the Romans. We’re not exactly sure. But, the Celts both on the continent and in Britain and Ireland had a very long tradition of hostage taking as political control. Brigantia’s hold on eastern Ireland, southern Scotland, and a nebulous area of England and Wales could have been very artificial and based upon holding her children. And hostage taking need not have been the only form of this purposeful political organization of their family life. Welsh, Scottish and especially Irish writings detail fosterage to raise children in other’s households as a way to create otherwise very rare political stability amongst the numerous tribes and petty kingdoms that otherwise defined political life in Iron Age Europe.
When Arthur first comes into being, she could have easily interpreted his existence as a sign she would soon be able to exert more power and create more social control over the more fertile parts of the island she can feel. Perhaps the Roman conquest of Gaul and the subsequent refugees will destabilize Britain just enough for her to campaign into the south and bring more land into Brigantia. She’s probably having a torrid affair with her neighbors in Yorkshire when the Parisii appeared and have links to the same culture that will give Paris its name. We don’t know how accurate the Roman accusations of how the Iron Age Britons practiced human sacrifice actually were but nonetheless, sacrifice and worship is powerful and there are many more people in the south who’s belief and blood could flow into her as power. The channel protects her southern neighbors and Rome was defeated by the those same neighbors the one time they crossed. And she is far more fearsome than they are, surely.
Her three eldest children aren’t entirely sure what their original relationship to her may have been but its also not something that bothers them overly much. Mother was a Celt at least by the end of her life, they speak Celtic languages. The mechanics are complicated but the results, at least to them, were not. Brighid especially had more of a mentor/menteé relationship with Eirian but she has no real issue with it being a mother/daughter bond. Eirian could have just been young enough with her first child that they had a more equal dynamic. But regardless of the specific circumstance with she acquired her first three children, they were very purposeful acquisitions. The ancient world understood everything to have a spirit. In her mind it would make more sense to have a child for every field and tree and spring and tribe but I’ve gotta limit characters somewhere so its usually just easier to write leaving large gaps where the historical accuracy could actually be lmao.
At the advent of the Roman invasion, they are a family of the same structure as are found in a wide range of ritual deposits that contain human remains and I’ve kind of borrowed from the concept. We don’t know what this significance was to the people who practiced the religions that deposited these bodies and bones but there seems to have been some relationship to fertility. The pattern seems to be one older adult, one young adult, an adolescent, a child and an infant.
One older adult: Eirian has been chilling since the Bronze age and might have initially made a solid base for herself as the primary tin dealer on the island. One younger adult: Brighid is nearly grown in the 1st century as she pops up around when the Celtic cultures of Iron Age Ireland form as La Tène culture explodes into importance. One adolescent: Alasdair is 12-13 and the ancient version of a lego kid as dry stone building and new technology seem to coincide with La Tène culture as well but with somewhat later adoption of bronze and iron and the curving art so he gets a date a little more in line with the Pictish art style coming into being. One child: Rhys appears about 5-6. He comes into being as a geographic distinction centered around the mountains between Wales and the rest of the country that to develop some kind of distinction in the material culture. One infant: Arthur is born just before the Roman invasion, as a new identity culture in Britain seems to form around new developments like coins, a move towards proto-towns and a seeming intensity in the archaeological record of an obsession with heads perhaps in response to Roman religious practices or just general upheaval.
When she’s raising these children, one already grown, one mostly there, two quite young its really a demonstration of both her pride, some arrogance, a whole ocean of realpolitik and the ability of Rome to grind her down over time.
Not long after Arthur is born, Eirian and the personification of Parisii I have yet to name but who gets a summer home in Yorkshire in the Iron Age (the Parisii of Yorkshire seem to be an offshoot of the Paris-Parisii) are sucking and fucking. They are both new mothers, Parisii for the first and only time, Eirian for the 4th and last time. Parisii moves back across the channel to her native territory when the Romans win. Francis’ ‘actual’ father is less her speed and she takes the opportunity given to her by the Roman invasion of Gaul to strike a deal with Lucius. She becomes one of his favorite mistresses and her boy one of his favourite ward/pseudo-stepchildren. Parisii tells Eirian if she was smart she'd just take Lucius up on claiming legal paternity of her two youngest sons. After-all, nothing is permanent.
Eirian absolutely fucking refuses. Lucius is not overly frustrated by this at first and justifies himself as no good Roman would take a child from the breast of a she-wolf. He’s content with a pragmatic half-defeat in the beginning, leaving Brigantia and Eirian as a semi-independent client kingdom. She’s fairly adept at keeping that for a long time and Lucius is patient, not immediately forcing her to hand her children over even when she quietly supports the resistance in Wales. But when Wales is largely pacified and the power centers of the Druids are largely gone, she might have ultimately betrayed the father of her third son and sent him packing to Rome to preserve her and the children’s independence. But whatever happens, the direct invasion of her lands begins. She loses most of her autonomy and the Romans become invaders on her land rather than neighbors she can have her do her bidding. Hadrian's wall goes up. She is forced to cut a deal with Lucius so that he can educate her two youngest sons as they age, with some kind of established legal relationship, perhaps fostering or wardship. The origins of Dagda and what gets adapted into SMTIVA
Colonization, religious syncretism and famine all play roles in this unusual representation.
1) Who are the Tuatha Dé Danann?
There was a series of invasions of Ireland by a succession of peoples, the fifth of whom was the people known as the Tuatha Dé Danann.
They faced opposition from their enemies, the Fomorians, led by Balor of the Evil Eye. Balor was eventually slain by Lugh.
With the arrival of the Gaels, the Tuatha Dé Danann retired underground and eventually became the fairy people of later myth and legend.
A quick overview to situate those unfamiliarized but their tales aren't the subject of this post.
2) Who is Dagda?
Dagda is the chief of the Tuatha Dé Danann, portrayed as a large bearded man in father-figure and druid roles. He is often described as an ideal of masculine excellence (although with a comical tone). He had many mates among female Irish figures.
Dagda possess items that gave him advantage over the Fomorians:
→ A magic club of dual nature: its end could kill nine men in one blow but with the handle he could return the slain to life → A shirt of protection from sickness → A cloak of shape-shifting → A magic harp not only able to command people, but also the seasons → And last, a cauldron which never runs empty. Through these, Dagda becomes able to control life and death, the weather and crops, as well as time and the seasons.
3) Humans or deities?
In truth... The lore of Tuatha Dé Danann being descended from a previous wave of inhabitants of Ireland comes from euhemerized accounts. In non-euhemerized accounts, they are descended from Danu, the mother goddess (lit. "Peoples of the Goddess Danu").
The medieval writers who wrote about the Tuatha Dé Danann were Christians. They described them as neutral angels who sided neither with God nor Lucifer and were punished by being forced to dwell on the Earth. Due to the hesitance in calling them by ‘gods’, they were often stripped of this title and instead lessened as simply ‘humans who had become highly skilled in magic’.
Medieval sources depicted Dagda as “a king of Ireland for eighty years, until turning it over and being killed in battle against the Fomorians”; however, this was an obvious attempt to rationalize his divine nature. Not only Dagda is a leader of gods, it’s not in the exact same sense of a king either.
Thus, it’s fair to assume an intended contrast between the “diminished human form” Dagda depicted in the obviously Christian-biased surviving sources and SMTIVA’s “deity-like” Dagda that doesn’t make use of numerous tools to in order to have the means to display unique powers.
4) The Celtic Otherworld
In Irish mythology, Tír na nÓg ('Land of the Young') is one of the names for the Celtic Otherworld (or part of it).
It’s an island paradise and supernatural realm of everlasting youth, beauty, health, abundance and joy, where times also moves differently. Besides deities, it’s also a realm for the dead.
Left: "Land of the Ever Young" (Arthur Rackham) in Irish Fairy Tales (1920). Right: the DLC location Dagda takes you for grinding macca, EXP or items
Means of entry
It exists either in parallel alongside our own, or as a heavenly land beyond the sea or under the earth. Despite its elusiveness, various mythical heroes—such as Cú Chulainn and Fionn —visit it either through chance or after being invited by one of its residents. They often reach it by entering ancient burial mounds or caves, or by going under water or across the western sea.
Sometimes, mortals suddenly find themselves in the Otherworld with the appearance of a magic mist, supernatural beings or unusual animals.
Tech Duinn
In Irish myth, there is another otherworldly realm called Tech Duinn ("House of Donn" or "House of the Dark One"). It was believed that the souls of the dead traveled to Tech Duinn; perhaps to remain there forever, or perhaps before reaching their final destination in the Otherworld, or before being reincarnated.
"Who is the Dark One?", you might wonder.

5) Donn, The Irish God of Death
If you’re familiar with ancient Mediterranean polytheistic religions, you might notice that Donn (the Dark one) shares “death god” similarities with Hades and Pluto.
"One is struck here by the resemblance to the Greek lore of Pluto and the ferrying of souls across the river Styx. The similarity may be explained as a common ancient tradition concerning the dead which had come down to both Greek and Celts but… it seems more sensible to regard it as having originated in general Greek influence. Since the emphasis in these death-beliefs was on the imagery of the west, it is not surprising that the lore was further extended to the westernmost island of Celtdom, Ireland itself.” The Sacred Isle: Belief and Religion in Pre-Christian Ireland (1999)
Donn is responsible for guiding souls from the land of the living to the land of the dead.
Donn’s island, Tech Duinn, is in reality little more than a rock (now known as Bull Rock) situated off the coast of the Beara peninsula. But for centuries that rock inspired fear in the minds of the ancient Irish.
"[...] three red horsemen appear as an omen of death, and they announce: ‘We ride the horses of toothless Donn from the tumuli, although we are alive we are dead!’ Donn is here a personification of the elders buried in the tumuli, which illustrates the physical aspect of funerary practice." The Sacred Isle: Belief and Religion in Pre-Christian Ireland (1999)
Myth vs Pseudohistory
A purely mythological figure, Donn the death god would later become conflated with the quasi-legendary Donn son of Milesius.
“Medieval Irish texts describe the ‘belief of the heathen’ to the effect that souls go there to Donn, and in the pseudo-history Donn is euhemerised as one of the leaders of the Gaelic people when they came to Ireland. We read of this pseudo-historical Donn, however, that he was not destined to reach the shore of Ireland, but was drowned near the rock which bears his name.”
The Gaelic people are also known as the Milesians, namesake of Donn’s dad Milesius. The Milesians were the final invaders/settlers of ancient Ireland. They were the ones who defeated the Tuatha Dé Danann and sent them underground to their tumuli in the euhemerised version.
Donn was an important Milesian military commander and the eldest of Milesius’ eight sons. He seemed like a character fated for a heroic life, yet in every account of Donn’s deeds during the Milesian invasion of Ireland, he was doomed to fall off to his death in the sea in the island and intermixed his tradition to that of death god Donn.
Pre-Celtic roots
On a following note, some historians suggested that Donn might be actually an iteration of Bilé, Irish god of death who originated in ancient Gaul. Bilé, in turn, is the Gaelic iteration of a much older Celtic god who is often referred to as Bel or Belinos in the Brythonic tradition. He is the namesake of the Celtic feast day Beltane, which was—and among some groups, still is—celebrated on May Eve and May 1st.
In some Irish texts, Bilé is euhemerized as the father of the aforementioned Milesius. Therefore, Bilé is the quasi-historical father of Milesius, making him Donn’s grandfather, and clearly establishing Bilé as the original, more senior Celtic god of death.
"Mistifying" enemy nations
Bilé and the rest of the Gaels who invaded Ireland are described as coming “from Hades.” On a different note, the god of death Bilé is described as also being the source of human life:
The Mythology Of The British Islands: And Introduction to the Celtic Myth, Legend, Poetry, and Romance (1905)
And as shown earlier by what we discussed about Tír na nÓg, the Celts didn't consider the Land of the Dead as being a punishing and oppressive place like hell.
“In Celtic belief the underworld was probably a fertile region and a place of light, nor were its gods harmful and evil.” The Religion of the Ancient Celts (1911)
Totally the same, right? Left: Hortus Deliciarum - 12th century Hell (Herrad von Landsberg) Right: "They rode up to a stately palace" (Stephen Reid)
Are you realizing where this is going?
6) Donn = Bilé = Dagda
"Irish god of the dead whose abode is at Tech Duinn (House of Donn) which is placed on an island off the south-west of Ireland. The house is the assembly place of the dead before they begin their journey to the Otherworld. In modern folklore Donn is associated with shipwrecks and sea storms and sometimes equated with the Dagda and Bilé." A Dictionary of Irish Mythology (1987)
We've reached full circle with our representative always being at the boundary between the world of the dead and the world of the living even under different names and locations.
Also, among Dagda's many names, two are relevant both on this discussion and for his SMTIVA portrayal:
-> An Dagda -> Dagda Donn "The Good God" "Dark Dagda"
While 'good' isn't particularly regarding his own morality, the same source mentions that Dagda is charitable, hence the title can be accurate in an altruistic sense as well.
Meanwhile, the possible (combined, even) reasons behind Dagda being called "Donn (Dark)"...
a) Due to having a dun tunic and a dark cloak b) Due to the death and ancestral god Donn (aka Bilé) originally being a form of Dagda thus being the original dark reflection of Dagda c) "Donn Dagda" being also... "Lord Dagda".
On a similar note, both Dagda and Donn have also been likened to the Germanic god Odin regarding shared motifs and, as pointed out by their dynamic in SMTIVA, Celtic cultures are the ancestors of Germanic people.
This is also emphasized by many of Dagda's other names:
Eochu Ollathair "Horse Great-Father"--generally taken as his "true" name
Fer Benn "man of the peaks" or "horned/pronged man"; could be a poetic reference to lightning, or could indicate a now-lost idea of the Dagda being horned, a not-uncommon feature in British and Gaulish iconography.
Cerrce It may derrive from *perkw "striker", i.e. lightning
Dagda (n)dur/Dagdai duir "harsh/stern" Dagda, but duir also may refer to the oak dair; the association of duir and dair also appears in the ogham tracts. Comparing the Dagda to an oak would also lend credence to the interpretation of him as a thunder god.
But back to the "Good Dagda" and "Dark Dagda" discussion.... What if SMTIVA took these two titles as two separate selves?
Donn Dagda -> Original dark reflection of Dagda -> The Ancestor Dagda from his Pre-Celtic era -> The "Old Dagda" that Nanashi fights against in Bonds while allies with in Massacre -> Immutable part of himself
An Dagda -> His heroic Tuatha Dé Danann self -> More aligned to how he's written in biased sources -> The "Entity created by Danu" that Nanashi allies with in Bonds -> Continuously reborn as long as Danu exists
Notice Danu's choice of wording. "My wish" Donn starts belonging to Danu as a Tuatha Dé Danann (Person of Danu) "good king" "good god" Donn was forced into a "personified" role over simply being nature itself. "forbidden magic" Danu is being self-aware about her true "pagan" origins, as she serves humans as both Tuatha Dé Danann and as Black Maria.
7) Effects of Christianity on Irish folklore
When Christianity was first brought in Ireland during the 5th century by missionaries, they were not able to replace the pre-existing beliefs in the Celtic societies. However, Irish folklore did not remain untouched.
As we mentioned earlier, the fairy folk, who were previously perceived as Gods, became merely magical and of much lesser importance, thus adapted to enforce Christian ideals.
All in all, the current Irish folklore shows a strong absorption of Christianity, including its lesson of morality and spiritual beliefs.
Most of these manuscripts were created by Christian monks, who may well have been torn between a desire to record their native culture and hostility to pagan beliefs.
The Tuatha De Danann were known to come from the heavens, but that may be from scribes not knowing how to execute their origin. So the scribes borrowed from past religions like the Greek, Roman, and Eastern myth to create an origin story.
Earth was also thought to be a woman at the time, so this was thought to be a metaphorical birth.
The uncertainty of Danu's origins
Danu has no surviving myths or legends associated with her in any of the primary Irish texts.
Danu is a hypothesised entity whose sole attestation is in the genitive in the name of the Tuatha dé Danann, which may mean 'the peoples of the goddess Danu' in Old Irish.
In Cormac’s Glossary from the 9th century, the goddess Anu is stated as the mother of the gods. Some scholars suggest that Danu was a conflation of Anu and is the same goddess.
in which case Danu could be a contraction of *di[a] Anu ("goddess Anu"). Also cognates with Dana
Left: Mother Earth image, Atalanta Fugiens Right: The Paps of Danu, a pair of breast-shaped mountains in County Kerry, Ireland.
Some later Victorian folklorists attempted to ascribe certain attributes to Danu, such as association with motherhood and agricultural prosperity due to a "general Mother Earth concept".
"Danu herself probably represented the earth and its fruitfulness, and one might compare her with the Greek Demeter. All the other gods are, at least by title, her children." Squire (1905)
As shown by the flimsy lore attempts regarding Danu, whether medieval Irish literature provides reliable evidence of oral tradition remains a matter for debate. This is indicated in SMTIV&A by how fragile and dependent on biased Christian sources her existence is.
"Nativist" claims have been challenged by "revisionist" scholars who believe that much of the literature was created, often in imitation of the epics of classical literature that came with Latin learning, such as the Illiad. They also argue that the materials depicted in the stories generally date closer to those of the time of their composition (such as bows and chariots) than to those of the distant past.
The Mythological Cycle, which comprised stories of the former gods and origins of the Irish (including the Tuatha Dé Danann), is the least well preserved of the four cycles thus many manuscript sources that could have been what later myth writers based on may have been since disappeared, leading to Tuatha Dé Danann eventually becoming forgotten in the current era.
English colonization
During the 16th century, the English conquest overthrew the traditional political and religious autonomy of the country.
The Great famine of the 1840s, and the deaths and emigration it brought, weakened a still enduring Gaelic culture, especially within the rural proletariat, which was at the time the most traditional social grouping.
In the state of things, with depopulation the most terrific which any country ever experienced, [...] together with the rapid decay of our Irish bardic annals, the vestige of Pagan rites, and the relics of fairy charms were preserved, - can superstition, or if superstitious belief, can superstitious practices continue to exist? - William Wilde
Moreover, global migration has helped overcoming special spatial barriers making it easier for cultures to merge into one another.
All those events have led to a massive decline of native learned Gaelic traditions and Irish language, and with Irish tradition being mainly an oral tradition, this has led to a loss of identity and historical continuity.
Dagda's (briefly mentioned in-game) daughter
Brigid ('exalted one') is the daughter of Dagda and "the goddess whom poets adored". She is associated with wisdom, poetry, healing, smithing and domesticated animals.
The goddess Brigid was syncretized with the Christian saint of the same name. Medieval monks took the ancient figure and grafted her name and functions onto her Christian counterpart, Brigid of Kildare.
Saint Brigid shares many of the goddess's attributes and her feast day, February 1st, was originally a pagan festival called Imbolc, the first day of spring in Irish tradition.

Art mural depicting the duality of Brigid the pagan goddess and Brigid the saint.
As the more well-known goddess, and later saint, the legends of numerous "minor" goddesses with similar associations may have over time been incorporated into the symbology, worship and tales of Brigid, including Danu and Dagda's own.
This is subtly brought up in the request she makes for Flynn prior to SMTIVA: she requires the rescue of her (then absent) father's cauldron that could feed crowds of people and wait for the return of Danu, the "representative piece" of their group, in order to turn it back to its original state.
On a following note, Brigid's affectional and protective nature is distinctive as she not only began the custom of keening (traditional form of vocal lament for the dead in the Gaelic tradition) while mourning the death of her son but even her animals were said to cry out whenever plundering was committed in Ireland.
Which leads us to the final topic of this post...
8) Irish and the celebration of death
Long before the rise of Christianity, Celtic druids preached that the human soul was eternal thus in death, one simply moved into a different plane of existence (which is the Otherworld we mentioned earlier).
Irish myths also emphasized to us that the barriers between the land of the living and the Otherworld are not always solid, which is perfectly displayed in the festival Samhain:
They believed that on the last night of the old year (October 31st) the lord of death gathered together the souls of all those who had died in the passing year [...], to decree what forms they should inhabit for the next twelve months.
The Book of Hallowe’en (1919)
Brigid alongside Dagda are "personified" concepts that show the picture of how intimate the Irish's relationship with death is.
To quote Scottish journalist Kevin Toolis, you’d be hard-pressed to find a country other than Ireland “where the dying… the living, the bereaved and the dead still openly share the world and remain bound together in the Irish wake.”
The oppressive YHVH forced those whose existences contradicted his own to step down from being gods. The divided Danu wishes to "claim back her lost authority" while still respecting the will of people that interpret her as part of Judeo-Christian lore. Meanwhile, Dagda subverts both YHVH and Danu as desiring to go back to being nature itself rather than its personification that continues the cycle of human dependency on gods and viceversa.
Death begets life. And the most fertile soil is that which is rich with the remains of the once-living. Dagda, as the spiritual father to humankind, wishes to become 'fertile soil' for Nanashi and a new world of humans.
The Donn reflection of Dagda, which is linked to the mythological ancestor of the Gaels, is crucial to the circle of life itself.

The Year In Doom & Gloom
Doom & Gloom From The Tomb celebrated its 15th anniversary this year, which is crazy. But what can I say, I keep finding cool live tapes and keep feeling compelled to share them with you ... whoever you are! A lot of this website is just me talking to myself, hashing and rehashing and re-re-hashing various obsessions, getting impossibly niche about some of my favorite artists, trying to shine a light into the darkest corners of music history. But that makes it sound like it's a serious endeavor. Mostly, it's fun. I hope it's fun for you too. So, if you need to catch up, here's a tip-of-the-iceberg rundown of what we checked out over the last 12 months ... as always, thank a taper!

I don't think I'm saying anything earth-shatteringly new when I state that the inner workings of the Ministry of Magic aren't exactly expanded upon in the hp books. it's safe to say that Rowling herself probably didn't think too deeply about the executive, judiciary and legislative powers of the magical government since the information we do have is scant and often contradictory; nevertheless, I have attempted to compile all the relevant facts disclosed in the books.
When researching the subject, I have not used any external material (i.e. Pottermore, JKR interviews, facts gleaned from post-7th book canon) because, having been written ex post facto, they are by nature unreliable. In the time inbetween writing the original books and the disclosure of post-canon details, jkr had time to do some revisionism and fill in existing gaps (the existence of which she may have been alerted to by others) and I'm not interested in any of jkr's attempts to rewrite history, regardless of the subject.
That said, I give you
The Definitive HP Law Compendium
a) THE MINISTRY
Our most exhaustive documentation on how the Ministry of Magic is structured comes by courtesy of the ministry elevators, which helpfully list all departments floor by floor.
on level 1: Minister of Magic and Support Staff (Umbridge's offices in DH are located here)
on level 2: Department of Magical Law Enforcement (henceforth shortened to DMLE), which includes the Improper Use of Magic offices, Auror Headquarters and the Wizengamot Administrative Services.
although not specified by the lift, this is also where the Misuse of Muggle Artefacts office (where Arthur Weasley works) is located, which tells us that the lift's announcements are not necessarily exhaustive.
on level 3: Department of Magical Accidents and Catastrophes composed of the Accidental Magic Reversal Squad, Obliviator Headquarters and Muggle-worthy Excuse Committee
on level 4: Department for the Regulation and Control of Magical Creatures which includes of the Beast, Being and Spirit Divisions, the Goblin liaison Office and the Pest Advisory Bureau.
on level 5: Department for International Magical Cooperation including the International Magical Trading Standards body, the International Magical Office of Law, and the British chapter of the International Confederation of Wizards (also referred to as the "International Confederation of Warlocks")
on level 6: Department of Magical Transport which includes the Floo Network Authority, Broom Regulatory Control, the Portkey Office and the Apparition Test Center (considering that Hogwarts student seem to take their apparition test at school, this is likely where adult wizards take and/or retake their tests)
on level 7: Department of Magical Games and Sports, which includes the British and Irish quidditch League (is magical Ireland not divided? unclear), the Headquarters of the Official Gobstones Club and, bizarrely, the Ludicrous Patents office (I'd be inclined to think this is a sports-related patent office if it wasn't the only one mentioned in the books)
on level 8 is the atrium, which Harry describes as a "very long and splendid hall" with many gilded fireplaces on both sides (left is for arrivals and right is for departures). This is also where the Fountain of Magical Brethren and the security desk are located. At the end of the hall, golden gates lead to a smaller room where the lifts (at least 20 in number) are.
on level 9: Department of Mysteries and beyond
The lift stops here but we know from OotP that there's at least one more floor that is only accessible by stairs from level 9 (which also brings up the question: are the upper floors also connected by stairs or is it an either/or scenario?). On this additional floor is Courtroom 10, which is supposedly no longer in use as of OotP but was still being used in the immediate aftermath of the first wizarding war. The courtroom's name implies the presence of at least 9 other courtrooms and, though their location is unclear, they do not seem to be located on this floor.
b) KNOWN GOVERNING BODIES
Going purely off of the only two law-adjacent departments mentioned by the ministry lifts, there's both an international and a state law department (on level 5 and 2 respectively) but seemingly no distinction between civil and criminal law.
Besides what described above by the lift, level 2 also appears to be where some offences are judged, as Harry's trial in OotP was originally scheduled to take place here, right inside the office of the head of the DMLE.
We know that, during Harry's time, the DMLE is headed by Amelia Bones, who gets quietly offed between OotP and HBP. She is succeeded by the imperiused Pius Thicknesse (who goes on to become minister of magic during the second war), who is in turn succeeded by noted Death Eater Corban Yaxley.
We further know that, prior to Amelia's tenure (though it's unknown if directly preceding), the department used to be headed by Barty Crouch sr., who later went on to head the office for International Magical Cooperation (where he was Percy Weasley's boss). This is implied to be a lateral career move at best since Sirius describes Crouch in GoF as being "shunted sideways".
The International Federation of Warlocks (part of the Office for International Cooperation) seems to be a legislative body of sorts, as we'll see later that it originated many of the laws mentioned in the books. We know that it was established prior to the advent of the Statue of Secrecy (and the subsequent creation of the Ministry of Magic) because professor Binns mentions they convened in 1289 in one of his lectures, implying that its existence precedes that date.
The books make no mention of the presence of a parliament in the wizarding world, not even in a Chamber of Lords-type fashion.
[note that Dumbledore seems to have had high positions in both the International Federation, where he was Supreme Mugwump, and the Wizengamot, where he was Chief Warlock. It's unknown what either of these titles entail]
Moving on to the judiciary branch, we know of the existence of the Wizengamot. It's described as "the wizard high court", which (to me) implies the presence of a lower court. The Council of Magical Law may be the lower court's name, as it may be the court presiding the trials Harry witnesses in Dumbledore's pensieve
(from PoA)
As we'll see later, the postwar trials of Igor Karkaroff and Ludo Bagman, and the joint trial of Rabastan Lestrange, Rodolphus Lestrange, Bellatrix Lestrange and Barty Crouch jr are described quite differently from Harry's trial before the Wizengamot, which is what led me to believe that they were presided by two different courts.
The magical world doesn't appear to have an appellate court although, if jkr modeled the wizarding judiciary after the ones present in British Law, the Wizengamot may be modeled after the Crown Court and thus also serve an appellate function.
Finally, the books make no mention of barristers, solicitors or any other type of lawyer. The trials we witness are not presided by judges but by government officials and there is no indication that the Wizengamot members (who serve the function of a jury) have any type of legal training.
The defendants in the trials we happen to witness don't appear to have counsel of any type. Dumbledore acts as a defense lawyer of sorts for Harry in OotP but he announces himself as a "witness for the defence". Seeing that Dumbledore appears to be a living exception to all magical laws and customs, this doesn't actually tell us much.
The government officials acting in the function of the prosecution and the judge both do exhibit some knowledge of wizarding laws, as does Dumbledore (who was at one point chief Warlock) although, since Dumbledore is Dumbledore and therefore omniscient, this may not be indicative of any skill requirement for the position he held.
c) KNOWN LAWS
1.1 legal documents referenced in the books (in tentatively chronological order)
the Statute of Secrecy, decreed by the International Confederation of Warlocks in 1689
unnamed law decreed by the Warlocks' Convention of 1709: it outlaws dragon Breeding (as per Ron in PS)
The Decree for the Reasonble Restriction of Underage Sorcery (1875), which partly states in clause seven that "magic may be used before Muggles in exceptional circumstances, and as those exceptional circumstances include situations that threaten the life of the wizard or witch himself, or witches, wizards, or Muggles present at the time of the..." (as quoted by Dumbledore in OotP)
unnamed law punishing the use of Unforgivables
the Code of Wand Use (mentioned in GoF), which states in part that "no non-human creature is permitted to carry or use a wand".
unnamed law delineating the purposes and limitations of the Trace
the Wizengamot charter of rights (mentioned on OotP): it partly states that an accused has the right to present defence witnesses (as stated by Dumbledore in OotP)
law fifteen B "any attack by a magical creature who is deemed to have near-human intelligence, and therefore considered responsible for its actions..." (as incompletely quoted by Dolores Umbridge in OotP)
the Decree for Justifiable Confiscation, which gives the ministry power to confiscate the contents of a will. It was created to stop wizards from passing on dark artefacts (as mentioned in DH)
the Ban on experimental Breeding (mentioned in GoF)
unnamed law written by Arthur Weasley regarding the possible legality of flying cars/ enchanted muggle vehicles (as mentioned in CoS)*
unnamed document establishing an embargo on flying carpets, implied to have been drafted by Arthur Weasley (from GoF)*
Arthur Weasley's Muggle Protection Act (proposed legislation c.a. 1992, unknown contents, unknown if put into law)*
the International Ban on Dueling, implied to be an international agreement, Transylvanians haven't signed it as of summer 1994 (from GoF)
*: it's unclear how Arthur Weasley, who is not a lawyer, an elected official or a member of the only known legislative body in the books (the International federation of wizards), is able to both draft and propose legislation
1.2 educational decrees
I am including these because they are treated like laws. They are pushed for by a minister and they need to "pass", presumably through a parliament of sorts, in order to be enacted. Prior to the events of OotP there seem to have been 21 educational decrees, the contents of which we are unaware of. The ones added in book 5 by the Fudge administration (with the help of Dolores Umbridge) are as follows:
n.22 "in the event of the current headmaster being unable to provide a candidate for a teaching post, the Ministry should select an appropriate person"
n.23, creates the new position of "Hogwarts high inquisitor"

d) HARRY'S TRIAL
In OotP, Harry is tried for underage magic following his use of the Patronus enchantment to protect both himself and his cousin Dudley from dementors.
This is Harry's second infraction of the Decree for the Reasonble Restriction of Underage Sorcery and he is being made an example of for political reasons since, in recently claiming that Voldemort had returned, he made an enemy out of the Fudge administration. It's therefore unclear if the Decree has a two strikes and you're out policy or if Harry's prosecution is just caused by the Ministry's desire to throw the book at him. By the time Harry receives the letter informing him of this upcoming trial, he'd supposedly performed underage magic outside of Hogwarts thrice but only received a written warning once (in Cos, when said magic was actually performed by Dobby). When Harry blew up his aunt Marge in PoA, Fudge himself dismissed the event as a non-issue, claiming:
The circumstances in this case being Sirius's escape from Azkaban and his presumed intention to target Harry. Of course, Harry's notoriety may have also played a factor.
Despite being a minor, Harry doesn't seem to be allowed an escort as Arthur Weasley is unable to enter the courtroom. Harry goes in alone (as does every other defendant we meet); it also appears that the trial is closed to the public.
Harry's trial is described as a "disciplinary hearing", both before it was supposed to take place in front of the Wizengamot and after:
and
Despite this, the hearing is presided by the Minister of Magic himself, (Cornelius Fudge). A Wizengamot trial seems to be, by nature, a criminal trial and Dumbledore, in his defense of Harry, implies it is highly unusual for disciplinary hearings to be tried as such. Indeed, before the trial was moved from Amelia Bones's office to Courtroom 10, the judgement of the head of DMLE was deemed to be sufficent.
The Wizengamot members act as a jury of sort, they are described to be:
The Wizengamot appears to have elders; we are introduced to only two - Griselda Marchbanks and Tiberius Ogden - so it's unclear how many there are and, furthermore, we are never informed of their function.
Wizengamot proceedings require the presence of interrogators. In Harry's trial they are Cornelius Fudge (Minister of Magic), Amelia Bones (Head of the DMLE) and Dolores Umbridge (Senior Undersecretary to the Minister).
For some reason, Percy Weasley acts as court scribe despite it not being his job title. It's unclear wether this is an extraordinary case or if stenographers really don't exist in the magical world. (also, why do they even need stenographers when wizards have quick quotes quills?)
Dumbledore describes himself as a witness for the defense, even if he takes on a role that seems more similar to that of a defense attorney. Mrs Figg is also described as a witness but, unlike Dumbledore, she was not allowed to enter the court by herself and required an escort in order to join the proceedings (Percy Weasley).
For some reason, Dumbledore was informed of the trial's change of location, which implies he was also aware of the time and location of the original hearing. At no point in time does Harry retain his services (he is in fact surprised to see Dumbledore there) despite the fact that Dumbledore speaks for Harry throughout.
Interestingly, though the trial also serves to determine wether Harry is going to be expelled from Hogwarts, Dumbledore's judgement in his role as Headmaster is not required. The Ministry, it appears, can decide to expel students without the approval of the school's headmaster (can the headmaster expel students without ministry approval? unclear).
The proceedings seem to be very formal, as Harry is being interrogated with yes and no questions and is given no time for elucidations. Despite this, Dumbledore is allowed to have multiple very informal conversations with the minister of magic himself and at no point does he use court lingo, in complete opposition to how Umbridge, an interrogator, is treated.
Harry observes that, in order to speak, she has to lean forward, at which point the Minister states
This is the only time in all of the books that this happens. The other interrogator, head of DMLE Amelia Bones, appears to speak whenever she pleases, as she interrupts Harry mid-sentence and addresses the Minister like a peer.
It's quite likely that Dumbledore was allowed free rein on account if his status and fame and his presence likely threw a wrench in what were otherwise going to be very strict bureaucratic proceedings.
Finally, Wizengamot rulings are made by show of hands and it doesn't look like they need to be initiated by the person heading the proceedings. For Harry's trial, it's Amelia Bones that calls onto the jury's decision and not Fudge.
e) OTHER TRIALS
The first trial we see in the books happens at least six months after the first wizarding war, since that's the time it took for Alastor Moody to track down the defendant, Igor Karkaroff.
What Harry witnesses (by wading through Dumbledore's pensieve memories) is not, however, Karkaroff's sentencing but a follow-up hearing to determine wether he is in possession of information that may lead to the capture of more Death Eaters. Karkaroff is taken from Azkaban in order to do so and he is accompanied/carried by dementors.
The case takes place in open court, as Harry sees that "rows and rows of witches and wizards were seated around every wall on what seemed to be benches rising in levels"; these proceedings, in stark difference to Harry's, are open to the public (possible proof n.1 that this is not taking place in front of the Wizengamot but in a different court).
At this moment in time, Dumbledore could very well be chief warlock of the wizengamot (we don't know when he was instated) but he sits among the spectators (possible proof n.2 ). Despite being a member of the public, Dumbledore is seen interrupting proceedings without permission (to defend Snape, whom Karkaroff implicates). Because it's Dumbledore doing it, it's again unclear wether this is permitted or if the court is making an exception for him.
This first trial is, like all the trials Harry witnesses indirectly, presided by Barty Crouch sr., who at this point in time heads the DMLE. (possible proof n.3, maybe all wizengamot trials are presided by the minister and all council trials are headed by the DMLE chief?)
The Second trial Harry sees in Dumbledore's memories is that of Ludo Bagman (for passing information to Rockwood, whom Karkaroff implicated in the first memory). Dumbledore is once again not there in any official capacity and is sitting among the public; the proceedings are implied to take place at a later date, as Harry remarks that Crouch's appearance has changed.
We join Ludo in his trial's sentencing phase and indeed Harry notices the presence of a jury, which is not described as having the monogrammed plum robes of Wizengamot members (possible proof n.4 although, since the events take place in GoF and Harry's trial occurs in OotP, jkr may have simply done an oopsie).
This trial seems to be more informal, as the crowd appears to behave quite rowdily (with no intervention) and a member of the jury waylays the proceedings in order to compliment Ludo's flying at his most recent Quidditch match. This is most likely because of both public sentiment and the perceived innocence of the defendant.
Notably, Ludo's trial is the only one that we know for sure was attended by the press, as Harry notices a young Rita Skeeter sitting near Dumbledore.
The final trial witnessed by Harry appears to once again be a sentencing, that of Barty Crouch jr, Bellatrix Lestrange and the brothers Rodolphus and Rabastan Lestrange (who were seemingly all tried together and received a single sentence). Harry once again remarks that Crouch Sr's looks have changed, helping us determine that time has passed between the memories. This sentencing is once again done through show of hands by a jury (who, again, is not described as wearing Wizengamot robes) and Dumbledore is still sitting among the public.
Despite it being another sentencing, it appears that the defendants were already being detained in Azkaban as they are accompanied by six dementors, unlike Ludo Bagman, though this may be due to the difference in the severity of their actions; Bagman was seemingly a free man when he entered the courtroom as he'd participated in a quidditch match not one week before.
It's during his trial that the Council of Magical Law is mentioned by name (the only time in the books). Since all three of the pensieve trials share multiple similarities - way more than they do with Harry's- this, together with the evidence shown above, leads me to conclude that
1 All three trials take place before the same court
2 the Council of Magical Law is not necessarily another the name for the Wizengamot and therefore
3 there's at least two different courts codified in the magical law system
Of course, these discrepancies may very well be oopsies on jkr's part. Although Dumbledore's role as chief Warlock can be ascertained as early as PS (thanks to the header on Harry's acceptance letter), the Wizengamot doesn't get mentioned by name until OotP. Furthermore, the pensieve trials and Harry's take place in different books which means jkr may have added on to the concept in the interim.
f) CONCLUSION
There is none, I have nothing else to say. Class is dismissed, I need to go have a lie-down.
#hp#hp meta#harry potter meta#this took years off my life and I didn't need to write any of it#I just noticed that Harry is being tried for improper use of magic but Mafalda Hopkirk is not present at his trial#and she's the head of that department#I don't feel like rewriting anything so this stays in the tags#the blorger special

Ireland headcanons cause I'm bored
P.D: Mention of mental health problems (depression, anxiety....)
1. He took the role of oldest brother even though he is aware there might be a possibility Wales could be older than him but since they don't know, the brothers just decided to go in a certain order
2. Ireland influenced a lot in Scotland, his younger brother used to look up for him a lot when they were only the two of them and the parents figures they had dissapeared. Ireland tried to teach him everything he knee from basic survival tips to how to shot arrows, personal development and culturally influenced as well. However, Ireland hasn't forgotten Scotland for what he did to him during the plantation of Ulster.
Ireland just though that Scotland among all the brothers, he could be the one who could listen and understand Ireland then to realize Scotland agreed with some things England did
3. He has every reason and right to hate England. He is aware England isn't like it was before, that he has changed, their relationship is quote good comapred with the past and he knows many things England couldn't really control them but he can't forget neither forgive, the few things England had in his control, he didn't do anything to help Ireland
4. There was a time he hated all his brothers, all of them, even North at some point. He just felt..left out...lfor him it was clear none of his brothers wanted him just tk follow England shake
5. The last 200 years have been very difficult for him, very, very difficult, starting from the famine, where he just wanted to dissapear, it was too late when the brothers helped him, consequence of that and the fact the population of Ireland hasn't recovered yet. He really struggles with food...it causes him so much anxiety, there were times he just couldn't even eat....The brothers noticed this...how little he ate, how he would suddenly have panic attacks, even thought his people are doing well nowadays but the trauma and the PSTD still lingers in him and he really struggles with it. Sometimes he could eat without any problem but when his thoughts go back in the past....
He just thinks, the less he ates, the more his people could be feed, his brothers specially Scotland and Wales try to talk with him and assure him, the famine has ended now and his people nowadays live in good conditions overall, that he deserves too eat but for Ireland it's difficult, it's very difficult...is still there and it still haunts him...
When he is in the UK house visiting the brothers, he would really try to think "it's okay, I should eat" but he sees the amount of food that are in the table and he just can't help it.... England knows that he can't talk to him when Ireland suddenly get so anxious cause it would make the things worse, given he fact Ireland in that moment, thinks he is still in 1847 not in the 21st century, and if he looks at England, he will see the Empire, not modern England.
He has really tried not to be like this, not in front of the brothers and specially not in front of North, he knew North knew about the famine but he didn't know the details of what Ireland went through both physically and mentally during that time. It didn't help to Ireland when North was a young child and he would be very picky with the food. Scotland would get very angry at him telling him that if he wasn't angry, then don't eat but the food wasn't going to go on waste and North with time learned the lesson and stopped being picky. Even England sometimes would tell North to shut up and eat knowing thay if Ireland was there, the fact England told North those words made some impact of Ireland
6. He likes to be alone but he hates feel alone, he knows he has been alone most of the time, nobody listened, nobody cared, he felt like he wasn't important, not even in his family but with time he has noticed he is important and he is loved
7. He is best friends with Spain, Belgium and France, specially Spain and Belgium, Spain was both Catholic and hated England and Belgium was Catholic and understands Ireland even it comes the division of brothers between religious beliefs (Belgium being catholic and The Netherlands being protestant)
8. Despite of his Catholic belief, he is still pagan and hasn't forgotten about his Paganims beliefs when he was very young
9. Wales and Scotland agreed back then when Ireland was just not okay to call him once per week to ask him how was he doing and if he was doing alright? Sometimes Ireland will try to dismiss his own feelings but they will encourage him to open up and that it was okay, he deep inside appreciates this gesture from both of them and thanks to them, he is accepting a side of him, he has always refused to acknowledge
10. Related with the previous one, Wales and Scotland agreed also that becasue of all the damage mentally and physically England has caused to him, as a "punishment" and to make Ireland get better, England was and still is forced to pay for all the medications Ireland needs, Engkand wasn't aware on how much badly Ireland was until he went to the pharmacy and bought all the aspirins Ireland needed cause yeah he needed quite a lot but like Scotland said "If you really feel bad and wanna help him, pay for those medications he needs cause most of them he needs to take them because of your actions"
11. Despite of everything, Ireland and England are now on good terms, there are times when Ireland would be very hesitant with him but they actually have learned to not to be at each other throats for more than 5 minutes
12. Despite of living separately, Ireland has been a huge influence when it comes to North raising. He had always tried to be there on special occasions when it was important to North like a performance in school or when he celebrates his birthday and North wanted him to be there or even when North couldn't stand the other brothers and called Ireland to some comfort and talking. Also he has helped him financially,since North lives with England in London, Ireland send money to England just for the raise of North such as basic needs he needs like clothes, school books or anything related to his education, another activities like swimming and ofc when Christmas arrives and he knows North waits for that moment every year, he always tries to be there
There have been sometimes when Ireland couldn't attend a special day for North and he had always sent him a little present, might be a book or a toy he wanted and apologise for not being there but wishing him the best and always reminding North that he was very proud of him.
13. He and Scotland talk to each other in Irish/Scottish gaelic always because both of them are scared to wake up one day and completely forget their native language due to the lack of people they have nowadays speaking it.
They kinda envy Wales because Wales has managed to save Welsh but due to the fact North was to learn and speak the language, both are very happy he wants to learn it, England doesn't like it but he also understands why North woukd want to learn it
14. For me as the oldest brother, he is the one who has more knowledge of magic and spells but due to the fact magic requires so much concentration and strength, Ireland for a very long time couldn't use most of the magic he knew since he was constantly feeling ill and tired enough for not even trying
15. Sometimes he keeps wondering what would have happened if he had stayed in the UK instead of going for independence? The question of maybe North wouldn't even be alive its very disturbing for him, he loves that boy so much
16. North many times call him a boomer but its his boomer
17. Despite of everything, Ireland and North are very close, there are some conversations they prefer to avoid (and know they need to be talked about) but North time to time is understanding so much better Ireland and his positions, his own past and is trying to be more fairer with him. Ireland always tries to reassure him that he understands he is not easy to deal with but he doesn't want to cause any harm to him and that North can trust him with anything, Ireland won't force him to speak up if North doesn't want to but if he ever needs someone...he is there, he is always there for him.
18. He plays Hurling and Gaelic football, sometimes the rest of the brothers join him specially Scotland and North
19. He speaks French and Spanish to some degree and has very basic knowledge of Danish and Norwegian
20. Wales might be the less closer brother to Ireland but is the only one who has always listened to him to some degree. Wales has always shown him so much respect and have tried to speak with England and make him considerate his choices when it came to Ireland or when something about North is around. He has always hated the way England treated Ireland, Wales couldn't do more than he actually did but he regrets not have pressured England way more to make him relaxing Ireland was in a very bad condition
21. Despite of their history, Ireland would never change his brothers for nothing, nowadays they are fine, even though there is still so much going on but they have never been more in peace than they are nowadays and that's everything he has ever wanted

May 1st 1690 saw the Battle of Cromdale, Jacobites defeated by government troops.
Only five years after he came to the throne, king James VII was becoming increasingly unpopular with his Protestant subjects. He became a Roman Catholic wanted equal rights for Catholics, but the Protestants feared that he wished to force Catholicism onto them.
William of Orange, prince of Holland, the son of James's sister and his wife, James's daughter Mary were jointly offered the throne on conditions set by the London Parliament, which they accepted. James was deposed on 4 April 1689, and a week later, William and Mary were crowned King and Queen of England, Scotland and Ireland.
John Graham of Claverhouse was a loyal supporter of King James, who in 1688 gave him the title of Viscount Dundee. When the Scottish lords went over to William, 'Bonnie Dundee' started the first Jacobite revolt with the support of many highlanders. He defeated the government forces under General Mackay at Killiecrankie on 27 July 1689, but died of his wounds.
The government forces finally defeated the Jacobites at the Battle of Cromdale on 1 May 1690. Bonnie Dundee's title, which had passed by now to his younger son, was forfeited.
The battle took place on the Haughs of Cromdale north of Claggersnich Wood. The 1500 Jacobite soldiers were surprised in their camp at dawn by Sir Thomas Livingston's government force of 17 troops of dragoons and 3 regiments of foot. About 400 Jacobites were killed. The rest escaped.
Over the following years there were several other Jacobite revolts, ending at Culloden, near Inverness, in 1745.
The song below sung by the Corries is taken from The Ettrick Shepherd James Hoggs Jacobite Reliques a two volume collection of songs related to the Jacobite Uprisings. But then an unknown bard, unhappy with the story of a lost battle, added an exaggerated description of Montrose's victory over the Covenanters at Auldearn in 1645. Despite the muddled history and the fact that Montrose had been dead for 40 years before the conflict at Cromdale, the ballad remained popular. Many a Highland regiment has marched to the tune of this song.
Haughs o' Cromdale
As I came in by Auchindoun, A little wee bit frae the toun, When to the Highlands I was bound, To view the haughs of Cromdale, I met a man in tartan trews, I speir'd at him what was the news; Quo' he the Highland army rues, That e'er we came to Cromdale.
We were in bed, sir, every man, When the Engligh host upon us came, A bloody battle then began, Upon the haughs of Cromdale. The English horse they were so rude, They bath'd their hooves in Highland blood, But our brave clans, they boldly stood Upon the haughs of Cromdale.
But, alas! We could no longer stay, For o'er the hills we came away, And sore we do lament the day, That e'er we came to Cromdale. Thus the great Montrose did say, Can you direct the nearest way? For I will o'er the hills this day, And view the haughs of Cromdale.
Alas, my lord, you're not so strong, You scarcely have two thousand men, And there's twenty thousand on the plain, Stand rank and file on Cromdale. Thus the great Montrose did say, I say, direct the nearest way, For I will o'er the hills this day, And see the haughs of Cromdale.
They were at dinner, every man, When great Montrose upon them came, A second battle then began, Upon the haughs of Cromdale. The Grant, Mackenzie and MacKay, Soon as Montrose they did espy, O then, they fought most valiantly! Upon the haughs of Cromdale.
The Macdonalds they returned again, The Camerons did their standard join, MacIntosh play'd a bloody game, Upon the haughs of Cromdale. The MacGregors fought like lions bold, MacPhersons, none could them control, MacLaughlins fought, like loyal souls, Upon the haughs of Cromdale.
MacLeans, MacDougals, and MacNeils, So boldly as they took the field, And make their enemies to yield, Upon the haughs of Cromdale. The Gordons boldly did advance, The Frasers fought with sword and lance, The Grahams they made the heads to dance, Upon the haughs of Cromdale.
The loyal Stewarts with Montrose, So boldly set upon their foes, And brought them down with Highland blows, Upon the haughs of Cromdale. Of twenty thousand Cromwell's men, Five hundred fled to Aberdeen The rest of them lie on the plain, Upon the haughs of Cromdale.
Meaning of unusual words:
speir'd at him=asked him
haughs=low lying ground

Sunday Blog (18 May 2025)
I am ligit worried about Luke Newton. He launched his PR relationship with the fungas, and boom, he is just gone. He gave the S4 new couple launch clip an obligation like. He didn't like the renewal announcement. (Well, neither did Nic), and that was it. Now, that might be that they have not been confirmed for S5 & S6. It might be that they are moving to the Featherington spinoff.
Quick detour...
A Featherington spinoff with them all moving to the country post S4. The queen bestows a new estate to Lord and Lady Whistledown post a very eventful social season that Pen realises fame is not what she wants in life. The new estate is in shambles, and they set out to build a new life. It is on a smaller scale as Bridgerton. We get a new love story for Portia. Pen writes her own novel. We get introduced to new characters in the village. In the last episode, the queen pops in for a visit, demanding that LW return to the ton next season. This would fit in with a substantial time jump (4 years). S5 Eloise and Philips love story.
Back to my post.
I feel like Luke and Nic need to admit to the mess this has become and apologise. But I know this is unrealistic. I just feel like it has caused a lot of harm to their images.
So very interesting, the poll I did asking who was responsible for this mess. More than 60% believe that it is orchestrated and fake. There was no consensus on who might be responsible. But most people blamed Luke and both their PR teams. It was unfair to add the PR teams. Because they essentially work for their clients, and they don't have their own ulterior motives. I very strongly believe that a Gen Z PR person at Shondaland/Netflix used chat GPT to come up with this strategy. Because no person in the business with more than 10 years would even suggest that to pull in 2 young fame hungry wannabes as partners is a good idea. Having Luke present as a single guy working on his career and Nic in a private relationship with someone also focussed on her career, much better optics. Nic and Luke are just besties. Addressing the rumours head-on. But that does not serve the S4 new leads at all.
I must say, I am very disappointed that I can't stand Jake anymore because of Nic and his Shenanigans on the pink carpet. I would've loved to support his work. But I literally want to gag when I see those pics. I feel like a good step in redeeming himself would be to remove them from his tags. Show that he is not using Nicola.
Another detour...
Where should Luke and Nicola disappear to for the summer holidays
Ok. So if it was up to me, I would rent a property in the South of France, with a private chef and pool. Spend 6 weeks just lounging around and spending private time together. Maybe have some friends/family join for a few days.
Back to where is Luke. Does anyone know if they have wrapped S4 yet? To me it makes sense that Luke would not like the S3 anniversary clip, because why would they push him to have this fake ass relationship and then turn around and post a Polin BTS/First kiss scene. I think they know we know, so the clips were to repair some of the damage. We have had a weird sort of confirmation that the cast and crew are on lockdown regarding anything S4. Probably to control the public discourse around the new season. It has already not been too promising. First, the association to Mr Darcy. I almost laughed myself into a coma with that one. Then, the exact same line from everyone at SAG. As if they were handed a script on what to say about the new season.
This is not the first time a show/movie has rolled out a prelaunch damage control strategy. My question is, how bad is it. Is it just the chemistry?

The Forbidden Fruit. Remastered. Part 2

Chibs x Reader fanfiction. Obviously.
I wrote the previous version long ago, now it seemes too short and flat to me. So I decided to write the new version.
Y/N is Clay and Gemma's daughter. Club's princess. Everyone in the club loves her and she treats everyone nice and caring as well. Chibs was seeing her growing up and never noticed what a beautiful yound woman she became. Untill one night.
Part 1 Part 3 Part 4 In Flames bonus
⊹──⊱✠⊰──⊹
Y/N was gone. Chibs truly felt it in couple of days when he came back from Tacoma. Clubhouse was the same but felt different. Now that he knew his heart was still alive, when he finally felt something knowing that she was gone, taken, it was too much for him. But there was nothing he could do. Chibs had to learn to live without her. And he couldn't let anyone know about what he felt.
So he just got back to how it was before her. Taking care of his brothers, dealing with club's issues. Chibs was all the same for everyone and only at lonely nights when he was again spending time with a bottle of scotch he could let his emotions take control. He was now even more lonely than before. And the only thought of Y/N meeting someone out there made his heart break.
His past was catching up with him though and it wasn't helping. Fiona coming to Charming, Ireland, IRA, it was all too overwhelming, too stressfull and yet Chibs had no one to talk to. If only Y/N was here to talk to him, sooth his pain, make it all just go. But she wasn't there. And he had to deal with his past alone.
And Chibs did. He finally repayed Jimmy O', finally let go of his past. He could've been ready for something new, but he knew now who was the special one for him. And he knew he couldn't have her.
Club issues were his only way to distract himself. And there were a lot of issues since almost everyone was behind the bars and Chibs, Ope and Kozik had to deal with guns, trying to to keep the club afloat, earn money.
They succeeded though, pretty good. By the time the rest of the club was out they had pretty much good earnings. Chibs was glad to see his brothers. He missed every one of them. But it meant he had more free time now and it was killing him. Thoughts he kept under control were now consuming him. And his lonely nights became even darker.
The fact that club was now having business with cartel wasn't making Chibs' life easier. He didn't like the idea, voted against it, but this deal was accepted and he could only hope it won't end bad, taking care of his brothers, supporting Jakson as he always did.
⊹──⊱✠⊰──⊹
It was in couple of days after guys were out. Sons had to go to the motorbike show to have a meeting with the cartel. It didn't go exactly the way they planned, had to deal with some club problems as well, but mostly everything was good. As good as dealing with the cartel might've been.
Chibs unmounted from his bike and headed inside. He stopped by the bar and got himself a beer and then he froze, cigarette in his lips, lighter in his hand. He heard a voice from the kitchen. The voice he was hearing in his dreams every night. Voice that made his heart sink as he heard it in reality after three years of missing it.
It was Y/N. Chibs couldn't believe it but it was her. She was talking to Gemma in the kitchen as if she never even left. It took him couple of minutes to get himself together, put his mask back on. All he really needed now was to see her. But he couldn't let anyone know how he felt. His brothers came in and it was when Chibs finally lit his cigarette and leaned against the bar counter as if nothing was going on.
Clay was the next one to hear it. He stopped, didn't even finish his sentence as he heard his daughter speaking in the kitchen. A glimpse of surprise and excitement lightened old man's features. Chibs could hardly remember the last time he saw the President smiling like this.
"Y/N?" Clay called, it was clear he could not believe what was going on.
"Daddy!" Y/N entered the room as soon as she heard him and ran towards him, wrapping her arms around Clay's neck as she hugged him tight and he lifted her, laughing.
"What are you doing here, baby?" Clay frowned when she finally pulled away and he looked down at her.
Chibs swallowed trying to act as normal as possible. Christ she was a pure perfection. Even more beautiful than he remembered. He missed her so fucking bad and all he could do now was just looking from afar. She didn't even look at him. Chibs didn't know why he expected anything different. He was just one of the Sons. Only a part of the family for her. Nothing more.
"I came back home, dad. I've graduated as you wanted me to. But that's it. I'm not staying away from this club" Y/N said, looking at Clay. She was stubborn and she was used to get what she wanted.
"Okay, baby, if that's what you want" Clay smiled, but Chibs could see the worry in old man's eyes. He didn't want his daughter to be around right when he started business with the cartel. It was too dangerous and probably Y/N was the only person Clay wanted safe.
Y/N finally looked at the rest of the club. Everyone was excited to see her. She hugged Juice, who blushed immediately and turned to Jax.
"Hey, sis" Teller kissed her cheek and petted her shoulder slightly. He was worried as well. Having his little sister around when things were complicated was not what Jax wanted. He already had Tara and boys to worry about.
"Our little princess is back to town, making uncle Tig happy again" Trager laughed as Y/N gave him a hug. Chibs knew that he was her favorite uncle, the girl adored this man and he was giving her the same.
Y/N was greeting Sons, met Kozik who seemed to be amazed by her immediately and Chibs could't blame him. He was still watching her from the bar and his heart was breaking with every hug she got from his brothers. He needed her right now, as close to him as possible and it was exacrly what he couldn't have.
"We're having a party tonight. Gem, tell Chucky to get everything ready" Clay announced. He was worried but still was so glad to have his little princess back.
Y/N turned to Chibs finally. He couldn't stop watching her even for a moment and when their eyes met he felt shivers all over his body. God she was so beautiful. She grown up, became a gorgeous young woman. He couldn't help it, Y/N was making him feel the certain way. She gave him a smile, so soft, so gentle. He needed it so bad to ease his nerves. Chibs was watching her as Y/N made her way towards him.
"Hey, lass" He said, his voice raspy with emotions. Filip didn't dare to touch her, to hug her even though it was fine for him to do it.
"Hello, Filip" Y/N looked up at him and the sound of his name escaping her lips made him almost whimper.
Next moment she hugged him. Wrapping her arms around his waste, pressing herself against him so tight. Chibs gasped, holding Y/N in his arms. It was so good, too good. His body's reaction for her presence was inevitable so he pulled away before it was too late.
"I missed you" Y/N smiled. She didn't notice anything unusual in his behavour, at least it was what he hoped.
"Missed ye too. I'm glad ye're back" Chibs gave her a smile, dimples on his cheeks.
"Found yourself someone else to talk to after a long day?" Y/N asked and Chibs didn't know what this question meant. Did she want to know if he had someone? Or was he just seeing what he wanted to see?
"Nah... figured out no one is better than ye. For that" Chibs hoped he didn't say too much, but Y/N seemed amused so he relaxed a bit.
"That's a shame, Filip. But now I'm here to keep your company" Y/N chuckled and left him, confused, to join her mother in the kitchen again.
The party was loud. Everyone was happy to have Y/N back. And everyone needed something good after what they've been through for last several days. Y/N was having fun, she was dancing and talking to everyone, she was glad to be back home. Wearing skinny jeans and tank top, her hair up in a ponytail she was perfect. Chibs was watching her from the couch brushing croweaters off. He noticed it was some challenge they had, trying to get his attention. But he wasn't interested. Nor when he was alone, neither now when his heart was taken.
"Are you bored?" Y/N asked as she came up to Chibs and sat on the couch next to him.
"I'm not, lass. But I'm not really a party man. ye know" He smirked and reached to take a strand of hair from her face. The touch was electrifying. He sighed and looked away.
"I know, Filip. But would you like to play pool with me?" She asked and took his hand as she stood up.
Chibs looked up at Y/N and raised his brows "I don't have a choice I guess"
He followed her to the pool table, wondering why she ever wanted to spend time with him. Chibs didn't mind it at all, but he saw no reasons for Y/N to waste her time with someone like him.
They were playing pool, chatting about nothing. She was so close, she was teasing him slightly as he allowed her to win. It was all so intimate for Chibs even though for Y/N and the rest of the people in the clubhouse it was just a pool game, nothing more. Chibs couldn't stop looking at her, admiring her.
Y/N was back to his life so unexpecteddly right when he needed her so much. But it was also so hard for him to stay away from this girl. For three years he was learning to live without her and now he had a new challenge, even more complicated. To learn how to live with her being all around and hiding his feelings.

Several days passed after Y/N was back home. Chibs didn't have any chance to spend some time with her, even though she was around the clubhouse all the time, helping Gemma in the office but there were too many thing going on around the club.
Then Tara was threatened, Mayans were attacked. And finally so was the clubhouse. Attack held by Lobo sonora, threat from the new sheriff, the clubhouse being a mess. It was all to much, too overwhelming and as if it was not enough Clay came up to Chibs in the middle of the chaos.
"Do me a favor, Chibs. Gem will stay here today, but I want Y/N away from here. She's at home. Take her to the cabin and stay there with her and Piney. It's probably the safest place for now and I want to make sure my baby is safe" He said, looking at Chibs with a heavy look.
"We could send Ratboy there" Chibs frowned. The thought of spending a night with Y/N in the cabin away from everyone was too tempting but it made him nervous as well.
"No. I want someone I can trust completely, Chibs" Clay knew what he wanted so there could be no argument.
"Aye. I'll take care of her" Chibs nodded and headed outside.
He parked his bike next to Clay's house and approached the front door when it opened. Y/N was obviously going somewhere. She looked at Chibs confused.
"Sorry, lass. Ye pa told me to get ye to the cabin and stay there with ye for the night" Chibs explained his sudden appearance.
"Oh... Something happened?" Y/N frowned. She knew family was taken away from the trouble but it was usually a lockdown in the clubhouse. Being sent to the cabin was new.
"Aye... Some people attacked the clubhouse so it's safer away" Chibs nodded as she was locking the door and following him towards his harley.
"And what about mom? And Tara and boys?" Y/N looked at him worried.
"They are safe, lass, I promise. It's just everyone staying at the same place is no good right now" Chibs sighed. He knew Clay was only caring about his daughter but he had to make sure Y/N had no worries about the rest of the family.
Y/N nodded and after Chibs mounted on his bike she made herself comfortable behind his back. He had to take a moment to get himself together when he felt her arms wrapped around his waist and the warmth of her body against his back. His heart was fluttering. His body was tensed as he was trying to get rid of this feeling. Y/N being so close made him defensless for what he felt for her.
As Chibs finally made himself to start the engine, he headed right to the cabin. The ride seemed so long and so short at the same time. He could've ride like this forever, having her right behind his back, holding him, gripping his cut with her small fingers. And at the same time Chibs knew there won't ever be anything more than this for him and it was breaking his heart.
They've arrived to the cabin when Piney was already there. He greeted them and let them inside.
"I think we, being two gentlemen, have to let a lady take the room. We can sleep on those couches" He said, small smile on his face. This old man was so glad to see Y/N again.
"You're too good to me, Piney" Y/N kissed his cheek and headed to the kitchen "First I'll cook dinner for you two. I can bet you both can't remember the last time you were eating"
"Just like her mother" Piney laughed and sat in his armchair havily.
"Ye need any help, lass?" Chibs asked. He was watching her, never taking his eyes of her. He just couldn't help it.
"No, I'm good. Relax and have rest, Filip" Y/N was already busy in the kitchen.
Soon enough the dinner was ready. It was an awkward evening with Y/N and Piney. Her being the love of his life he had to stay away from and him being a man Chibs was never close to. They barely spoke for the whole evening, the conversation mostly held between Y/N and Piney as Filip was silent, watching her and never having enough of it.
"I think I'll have some sleep. And you two should also have rest" Y/N finally said as she took the empty plates away from the table "Good night"
"Sleep well, sweetheart" Piney smiled.
"Good night, lass" Chibs whisperes as he was watching her leave. He hoped they could've had some time to talk, but there was no chance.
Laying on the couch, half asleep and dreaming about Y/N as he usually did he heard Piney's voice.
"What's going on here, Chibs?" The old man asked. He wasn't mad or anything, probably just curious.
"What do ye mean?" Filip felt nervous and tried to pretend he didn't understand.
"Don't make a fool outta me, son" Piney smirked. He knew what was going on, he did. But he wanted Chibs to explain.
"Is that so obvious?" He sighed and closed his eyes. If the old man noticed than probably others did as well no matter how much Chibs was trying to hide it.
"For me. Yes. Not for the girl if you worry about it" Chibs heard the voice and it made him tense.
"I can't help it" Filip finally confessed after a moment of silence.
"Yeah, son. I know you can't. Just be carefull. Her dad won't ever allow it to happen" Piney knew exactly how Clay was.
"Aye. I won't ever do anything about it, don't worry" Chibs stated bitter smile on his face. He was used to not getting what he wanted. But it did hurt so bad.
There was no answer. The old man fell asleep leaving Chibs restless with his thoughts. There was no option for him. He couldn't stop loving her no matter how much he tried. He couldn't confess his feelings, no matter how much he wanted it. All he could have was staying around and admiring Y/N from the distance.

Several days passed and life was coming back to normal. Chibs knew something bad was coming, it was in the air, it was inevitable. And it happened. Tara was attacked on their trip with Jax. It was all so bad, Chibs knew it was something to do with cartels, but he also felt something was wrong inside the family.
That night he was staying late at the clubhouse with Bobby and Tig when Clay came. He had some cuts on his face and obviously didn't want to talk to anyone. Chibs soon left to his dorm to have some rest, but restless he was, trying to find an answer to what had happened.
He heard a knock on the door and frowned. Wearing only jeans and white shirt he stood up from his bed and opened the door. And froze. Y/N hugged him, as tight as she could, hiding her face on his chest. She was crying, tears made his shirt wet instantly as Chibs pulled her closer to himself and closed the door.
"What happened, lass?" He asked with a raspy low voise. For a moment her was afraid Clay might've hurt her.
"It's mom and dad. Thay had a fight" Y/N whispered, sobbing on his chest "He hurt her, bad"
"Christ, lass" Chibs whisperes, his lips pressed to the top of her head. He didn't know why she came here, why didn't she go to Jax's place, but he was holding her in his arms and it was enough for him.
"Can I stay with you tonight?" Y/N asked queitly and Chibs only nodded.
"Aye, lass. I'm ere for ye" His accent was thick with emotions as she leaned closer into his arms.

My sister has been living in Ireland the past few years and there's some pretty prevalent misconceptions about how America works, especially when it comes to politics, which are the basis for a lot of the feeling people from other countries have about the number of Americans that agree with decisions being made by our government. So here's some important differences that people from outside the US seem to frequently not know: 1: First off, Americans do not vote on individual laws. That's not a thing here. Or, at least, extremely rarely and in very specific circumstances. The only voting we can do is for elected officials. We do not directly purpose, vote on, or in any way control the laws that are made and we have no ability to control, get rid of, or change the position or power of any official once they're elected. We can only elect them and hope they do things we want. They have no actual obligation to and we have no way to enforce it. 2: We can only vote for one person for each position and we are given, AT MOST, two candidates to choose from. We do not have any control over who those candidates are. We do not have a ranking system for who our top choice, second choice, third choice, etc is. We get one vote for one person. 3:In the case of presidential election, each person's vote is not counted equally. Depending on which state you are in, your vote can be worth 5x the amount of a vote in another state. Most of the higher value states are the most right wing states. It is possible to win an election for president with roughly 30% of the total votes. 4: Out of our 3 branches of government, only 2 of them are publicly elected. That means the people have no say in who is in 1/3rd of the controlling forces of our government at all. The United States government structure was made with the express purpose of keeping any kind of power out of the hands of the common person. This is explicitly stated in much of the history of our country's founding. Laws being made frequently have next to no support from the population and are often met with resistance, but we have no real channels through which to change them and this resistance is often met with violence or even lethal force from our occupying army of a police force. Polls show that recent laws such as trans bans, the repealing of our abortion protections, and book banning are disagreed with strongly by the vast majority of the country. We are not choosing these laws. They are being chosen for us. Against our will and to our strong and loud outrage. When we say "we don't control what our government does", we don't mean "there are some elements we don't control". We mean "we control basically no aspect of our government or any of the decisions made by it"
