Somewhat of a vent post but I do want to know whether anyone in a similar situation can relate
I used to have a hobby related to creation(things like art, music, writing etc. Something you have to put in effort for and have the motivation to do), one I enjoyed so much, so fucking much. But ever since I fell into a depressive episode, I’ve tried a couple times to, you know, get back at it.
But with how much of an absolutely CRUSHING feeling it was over and over again realising that I just CAN’T anymore, atp I’m just too scared to even try picking it up again when I have the spur of the moment urge, fearing that defeating realisation of motivation fizzling out before I can even get started.
Anyone relate?

Dear readers/fellow creators:
That creator you are so scared of interacting with? They are probably just as scared of you as you are of them. Go on, send that friendly DM/ask/comment/reblog. This is Tumblr we all are kids in the sandbox
Sincerely, a fellow sandbox kid

Following the author of The Last Unicorn on Facebook is the only thing that makes being on that site worthwhile.

Am I a bad person for feeling demotivated when I work really hard on something and it gets practically no interaction?
Not at all anon! Some creators feel like that, I sometimes feel like that whenever I finish a fic or something and I get little to no traction. Sometimes I also wonder if it’s even worth it anymore.
It’s a perfectly valid feeling to have, especially when you put in time and effort.
(But it’s not okay to be mean or rude to people just because of it fyi, don’t hold works hostage just because you didn’t get traction)
Anyway, no need to feel bad anon. Whenever I feel demotivated or disappointed, I often remember my readers or commentators who are reading my stuff. I hope this helps in some way anon!

Don’t feel bad, it’s a valid emotion to have and it doesn’t make you a bad person

and again, the issue is that once a show is no longer airing, the content made for it doesn't gain traction so there's no motivation to make it. shows that only got 1-3 seasons didn't get the chance to build much of a fandom, not including shows that were adaptations. and even those might still have fandoms thriving in small corners but those corners are not enough to circulate content worth putting time and effort into.
have you seen the ratios lately? they're only getting worse despite our pleas. only content makers who truly love to create will survive the famine.
I don't wanna @ anyone because I understand how fast things seem to move in today's landscape of streaming shows dropping entire seasons in one day, and networks pumping out new series constantly to try to attract more subscribers with no intent to actually maintain those shows over time but I just saw someone self-deprecatingly lament that they are still thinking about a show that ended almost a year ago, making fan art and playlists for it, and I want to be very clear:
you can still create fanworks when it comes to old media!! PLEASE do!! there are always going to be new fans who will appreciate it, and veteran fans who are dying for new content and new perspectives. also, less than a year is NOTHING. the original Star Trek series was on TV six decades ago and there are still people losing their minds over it, writing stories and reblogging gifsets daily, and that's only one example.
a fandom lasts as long as there are people who love a thing, even if it's only a handful of people. love what you love and write and draw and make gifs and playlists about it!
