I’ve officially hit the 10 hour mark of Sonic Frontiers and my verdict is that it is fun but moreover that exploring the island and solving the little riddle/puzzle things to complete the map is my favorite part. There’s a nice sense of completion so if I 100% any aspect of this game it’ll probably be that and Big’s fishing index
I hate the cyber stages. I know they’re just regular sonic stages so I don’t know why I hate doing them, but the fact that they’re so long, mandatory and interrupt my exploration time makes them enemy #1 (Stage 2-7 in particular is not invited to my house)
Also the monster on island 2 that’s just a bunch of rail grinds? Awesome design, but also not welcome in my home.
Anyway that’s my gamer hot take for the morning.

Title: Saying Goodbye
[Spoilers for what happens at the end of PMD Explorers]
———
It was over. After managing to defeat Dialga, and putting the Time Gears back in, it was over. The Treecko and Cyndaquil partner were heading back down the path to get to the Rainbow Stoneship.
Rusty felt so relieved and glad that everything was going to be back to normal—no more time troubles—even if Dialga mentioned that everything would take a little while. Whisper had to be too, right? Rusty assumed it was.
Frankly, after everything that had been going on recently, the Cyndaquil just wanted to head back to Treasure Town—head back to the Guild—and relax with their sibling for a just a little bit before continuing with things. That sounded nice. Rusty was tired.
He was just beginning to remember all of the things that they had told Whisper that they wanted to do later after everything was said and done—some of which the Treecko had agreed to doing with the Cyndaquil. But... when it had spoken, it almost seemed... sad. Maybe it had been Rusty’s imagination.
What was there to be sad about? Rusty frowned... well—there was Dusknoir, he guessed—and the Cyndaquil knew how Whisper had grown attached to the Ghost type—considering him a father. Frankly, Rusty had felt the same.
Rusty continued down the long path, trying not to accidentally trip over their long scarf on the way. While they liked the scarf—especially due to it being a gift from his sibling—tripping was a bit of a common thing. Maybe they could try to adjust the scarf later.
Neither of them were speaking yet—but it was clear to each that they were both exhausted from everything—who wouldn’t be, after all that? However, Rusty happened to notice something else about Whisper, after glancing back at it a couple of times.
Sure, Rusty was exhausted, but it looked as if the Treecko was far worse—and unless it was Rusty’s imagination, every step that it took was slower than Rusty’s—and he swore that it was getting slower—but for the moment, it was still managing to keep up.
The Cyndaquil tried not to worry—maybe it was nothing. If Whisper was just tired, then there was no need to worry—once the two of them got back to the Guild together, the Treecko would get some good rest—Rusty would make sure of it.
If it was having difficulty walking from how exhausted it was, Rusty wished that he could carry it—he wouldn’t be against carrying their sibling—but that might be incredibly difficult—the Cyndaquil didn’t think he was strong enough to do so.
In all honestly, if it was the case, then Rusty was surprised that Whisper wasn’t like this a lot—how had it never collapsed from exhaustion? He never saw Whisper sleep—the Treecko preferred to stay awake, carefully watching over and protecting the sleeping Cyndaquil from anything.
When he couldn’t hear the Treecko walking behind them anymore—only hearing their own footsteps—Rusty frowned, and started to slow down. And, when he noticed some kind of golden light from the corner of their eyes, that’s when they stopped, and finally turned.
Whisper was standing there, a few feet away from Rusty—eerily still, a frown on it’s face. It was focused on it’s little sibling in front of it, but the Treecko couldn’t help but glance at the pieces of light every now and then.
Rusty just... stared. W-What? What’s all that...? Why is it doing that...? “W-Whisp...?” The Cyndaquil hesitantly spoke up.
“Whisp, w-what’s going on? Are you okay??” Rusty rushed over to the still Whisper.
“...Rust. I-... I’m so sorry about this..” The Treecko’s voice was always gentle—but, this time, it’s voice felt different—they’d never heard Whisper with this much gentleness or sadness in it’s tone. In it’s expression.
Before this, Rusty figured that the saddest Whisper ever sounded—that it ever looked—was when they both discovered what Dusknoir was truly up to. This took that moment’s place.
Rusty’s frown grew. “S-Sorry? Whisp, what... are you talking about? What- what’s happening? What’s going to happen?”
“Da-... Dusknoir told me earlier, if the future were to be changed, then the Pokemon- anyone from the future, would then disappear.” Whisper glanced at itself—its entire body was beginning to glow in a bright golden light.
Yes—it was a bit of a terrifying thing to think of—and Whisper didn’t exactly want to leave it’s sibling... or anyone, for that matter—but it was what was going to happen—and the Treecko had somewhat peacefully accepted that fact.
“Rust...” Whisper wiped at its eyes, feeling tears beginning to form. “I’m going to have to disappear, too. We’ll... have to say goodbye.”
A part of it did wish that it would be more of a ‘see-you-later’ goodbye—one where you leave after a visit, but you know you’ll end up seeing the other after some time—even if that time would be long. But, this was a different kind.
“N-No, no, no!” Rusty could hear their voice breaking. They moved closer than they already were, and immediately hugged Whisper—almost tackling it—but the Treecko managed to keep them both up while returning the hug.
“I-... I don’t want you to go, Whisp!” The Cyndaquil whimpered, “W-We’ve had so much fun together, right? A-and... and what would I do without you...? Y-You aren’t just my friend, Whisp, you... you’re like my older sibling.”
For the longest time, besides just wanting a friend—but not knowing how to make any—and being anxious—Rusty thought it would be nice to have a sibling. He didn’t have either. But, when Whisper arrived, they managed to get both.
Rusty continued as the tears began to leak—and, at the same time, he noticed how Whisper was taking its bandana and bag off—and carefully putting it around them. “I-I don’t know what I’d do without you, Whisp...”
“I-I want you to stay... there’s s-still so much we haven’t done yet e-either. I-I just want you to stay. There-... There...” The Cyndaquil tried to find the right words, but they weren’t coming to him.
Whisper sadly sighed, but the frown started to disappear—and in it’s place, was the tiniest of smiles. “Rust... you’ll be okay, I promise,” It started, “I know it’ll be difficult... but trust me. Just... just keep being the amazing explorer you are, okay...? Don’t forget me.”
There was so much more that the Treecko wanted to say—so much more that the Cyndaquil wanted to say—but, sadly, neither would get that chance.
Whisper knew it didn’t have much longer, and there wouldn’t be enough time to tell Rusty everything else—even if it was what the poor Cyndaquil needed to hear.
“Rusty.” Whisper started up again, it’s smile began to grow—although it was more of a sad kind. “I lov-“
Rusty listened quietly—waiting for their sibling to finish—but it would never get the chance to do so. In the golden light, Whisper disappeared. It was gone. It was gone.
They stared, looking around with widened teary eyes. No more Whisper. Whisper wasn’t here anymore. His sibling was gone. It... wasn’t going to be around anymore.
The Cyndaquil broke.

Just a (sentient) Spring Bonnie fic that I was wanting to do for a while :) @maraariana01
Title: The Rabbit’s Sorrow
Description: Spring Bonnie remembered what they were supposed to do——entertain children and make them happy. Now, he deals with the consequences of the opposite.
TW: Character Death+Blood.
The yellow rabbit blinked. Scanning the area, they recognized that they were standing atop the stage in the diner. A man—Mr. Emily—was walking away.
He watched the man for a few seconds, before turning to his left. There, Fredbear stood patiently, messing with his purple bow tie.
Spring Bonnie knew what was going to happen—and they assumed that the bear knew, too. Mr. Emily and Mr. Afton had been talking about it for a while.
Before today, the yellow rabbit remembered performing—although, with those few times, it had been different. It hadn’t been when the diner was open.
Both Mr. Emily and Mr. Afton had their own children. They remembered him and Fredbear getting to meet them all, and perform. It was more of practice, the rabbit figured.
Today was going to be different, though. He and the bear knew that. Today, the diner was going to open up.
“Spring Bonnie?”
“Fredbear?”
The two animatronics stared at the other as they spoke in unison. The rabbit’s ears twitched. “Sorry, Fredbear.” He gave a tiny smile.
Fredbear held out a hand. “It’s alright, Spring Bonnie.” The bear assured. “Do you want to...?”
The rabbit’s ears twitched again, ever so slightly beginning to lower. Spring Bonnie sighed. “Are you... nervous? Even just a little?”
Shaking his head, Fredbear moved from his spot, and inched closer to the yellow rabbit. He placed a hand on their shoulder.
“No...” He began, “But, Spring, I’m sure that everything will be alright.” What’s the worst that could happen?
Staying silent, the yellow rabbit only nodded. They trusted their friend—he didn’t have a reason not to—the bear was probably right.
___
Shortly after being worn by Mr. Afton again—after he’d finished, Spring Bonnie found himself unable to remember anything after that. Had they been shut off?
Letting out a shaky breath—one that the rabbit didn’t need—Spring Bonnie slumped against the wall, ears twitching and lowering.
Spring Bonnie could remember their purpose very well—to make children happy. To entertain them. Fredbear had been made to do that, too. Of course he had.
Although, the yellow rabbit had quickly discovered that there were two different ways that he and Fredbear would get to be able to perform.
Animatronic Mode—what he was in right now—and Suit Mode. The yellow rabbit... didn’t like that last one very much. But it never seemed to bother Fredbear.
When in Suit Mode—usually being worn by Mr. Afton—Spring Bonnie always noticed how they could see and hear, but unable to do anything else—like control himself.
Despite that, the yellow rabbit had assumed—had hoped—that everything would be alright—that nothing bad would happen—whether they were in Suit Mode or not.
As Spring Bonnie stared down at his hands, stained red and yet to be clean, the yellow rabbit had a feeling that nothing would be alright. Not after that.
___
They’d messed with the door, but only once. The yellow rabbit hadn’t really been trying that hard to begin with. He didn’t want to leave when he looked how he did.
Either way, when he’d chosen to mess with the door nearly an hour ago, it hadn’t budged. It was locked, it seemed. Mr. Afton’s doing, the rabbit had assumed.
They knew the room well enough—it was where Mr. Afton had been deciding to keep him, and the yellow rabbit had gotten bored pretty quickly.
Spring Bonnie’s ears, already rather low, went down further, covering the yellow rabbit’s eyes. It only happened to be himself in the room, nobody else.
His memories, for some time now, had been... iffy. They couldn’t understand why. But, there were parts that weren’t coming to him at all, or seemed... blurred?
Spring Bonnie had to lift their ears up as he scanned the room. Where are you, Fredbear?
Placing a hand on the wall beside him, he used his other to pull an old box closer. Then, the yellow rabbit began to look through it—tossing things around.
Come on, come on... The yellow rabbit continued tossing things around. The box seemed to mostly contain plushies—merchandise—but nothing they wanted—needed.
Shaking, the yellow rabbit continued his search through the large box—maybe he missed something? He needed to get it all off!
Huffing, Spring Bonnie shoved the box away, some of the merchandise spilling out of it as they did so. The animatronic rabbit grabbed at their ears.
A quiet whimper escaped the animatronic. “W-Why did he have to...” They trailed off as their eyes spotted the wall beside himself.
It was his handprint—the wall was stained, too, with the yellow rabbit’s bloody hand. Spring Bonnie flinched, letting go of their ears, which lowered once more.
He could notice how both of his ears were red now, too.
___
The yellow rabbit’s ears twitched at a sudden sound, breaking the silence that had lasted for nearly half an hour. He only looked for a second, before his gaze fell back to the ground.
The source of the noise was Mr. Afton, finally returning, and Spring Bonnie had felt himself tense. Mr. Afton seemed to be holding something.
Spring Bonnie could hear the door shut again, followed by footsteps approaching, but they didn’t look up. They didn’t say anything, either.
He didn’t even know what to say after what had happened. The animatronic didn’t know what to do. Was there anything that he could? He hadn’t been able to prevent anything.
For a moment, the yellow rabbit’s gaze drifted down to one of his hands. They wondered if there was something that they could do to Mr. Afton. He was close enough.
Just as quickly as they had started to raise a hand, considering getting up on their feet, the yellow rabbit had, just as quickly, stopped.
Letting out an unnecessary sigh, Spring Bonnie’s ears twitched at the familiar voice of Mr. Afton. He sounded annoyed. “Made more of a mess, I see...”
The animatronic just remained still, shutting his eyes.
___
From where the both of them stood, Spring Bonnie could spot a little girl with blonde hair. She seemed to be in the middle of playing one of the games.
But... she looked sad. The rabbit could understand that. And he wished that there was something that he could do for her. He thought he was good at comforting.
There had been sad or distressed children at the diner before. Both the rabbit and the bear usually tried to help—they thought Fredbear was the best at it.
Mr. Emily always tried helping out with a lot, too—whether just as himself, or when he was in the bear—when the animatronic happened to be in Suit Mode.
Spring Bonnie couldn’t recall a time where Mr. Afton ever really did much—it didn’t seem like he was that good of a comforter, compared to Mr. Emily.
A quiet chuckle escaped—yet it didn’t belong to the animatronic—it had been Mr. Afton. Controlling the suit, the two of them began approaching the young girl.
Spring Bonnie knew what was going to happen. They knew what Mr. Afton was going to do. He had mentioned it—and he had seemed so... happy.
If it were possible, they wanted to stop this—if it were possible, they wanted to help the girl. But it wasn’t. As long as Mr. Afton had him in Suit Mode...
Spring Bonnie took a quick look around, and realized that the two of them had moved. How had he not realized? Looking down, he saw the girl.
“He’s not really dead...” Mr. Afton spoke up, alerting the young girl of the presence behind her. She turned away from the game, sniffling.
The yellow rabbit noticed how he was doing some sort of voice, yet it wasn’t the first time. Mr. Afton never seemed to use his real voice when wearing them.
Wiping at her eyes, the girl stared up. “H-Huh...?”
If it were possible, Spring Bonnie would have frowned. The girl’s dog... he’d heard Mr. Afton say something about it.
Please, don’t listen to him! The yellow rabbit tried to get the words out, he wanted to warn her, but unfortunately, they remained thoughts.
“He is over here,” Mr. Afton continued. Not taking his eyes off of her, he pointed in the direction of another room—Spring Bonnie knew that it was only for employees.
He’d never seen it before, but, other children had been rather curious about the room—even trying to use it as a hiding spot for hide and seek.
“Follow me...”
Don’t listen! Please, don’t! He’s not there! The rabbit’s voice remained unheard.
Mr. Afton had crouched down—Spring Bonnie had crouched down—getting more to the girl’s level. A yellow paw was held out in front of her now.
The girl stared, before a smile started to spread, and she took hold of it. No!
“What’s your name?”
“S... Susie.”
“Well... let’s get you to your puppy, Susie.”
___
Spring Bonnie had assumed that there was only one box in the room—and he’d already looked around in it earlier. What he wanted hadn’t been in there.
However, as the yellow rabbit paced around, they tripped over something—managing to grab the table nearby, so that he didn’t fall.
Ow. Carefully letting go of the table, the yellow rabbit looked down, and spotted a box. It wasn’t the same one as before, though. He could tell that.
The original box had been surprisingly small, and was white. He’d left it in another part of the room, anyways.
This one, however, was a bit larger, and was a dark brown. It didn’t seem like it had been opened yet—at least by the yellow rabbit.
Ears twitching, Spring Bonnie lowered himself, staring at the box. He messed around with the tape that was on it for a couple of seconds.
Once the tape was off—but partially on their hand, and as the rabbit tried to get it off and on the ground, they opened the box with the tape less hand.
Peering into the box, there didn’t seem to be too much inside of it—at least compared to the other one, that had contained quite a lot of merchandise.
The rabbit’s ears shot up upon spotting something. Something familiar. He hurriedly began moving the other items in the box, so that he could reach it easier.
Carefully, the yellow rabbit pulled out a purple hat. Spring Bonnie knew that there were other hats—including others with the same color. There wasn’t ever just one.
There was never just one of anything—including the rabbit himself. He’d seen other suits before—in the parts and service area once—and the employees only room.
It was... strange.
Despite that, Spring Bonnie knew. They knew who the hat belonged to—he knew that it was the right one—it belonged to his friend. It was easy to recognize.
Ears slowly lowering, the rabbit held the purple hat close to their chest.
___
The two of them were wandering. Mr. Afton had chosen to be more out in the open this time—rather than simply watching from the corner, like before.
During that process, it seemed like he had rather quickly spotted someone—that he had chosen who would be next.
A young boy was up ahead at one of the tables—it wasn’t his first time being here, Mr. Afton knew. He grinned behind the yellow rabbit’s mask.
If the man wasn’t stopped, then it would be the boy’s last time, Spring Bonnie realized.
He didn’t know what he could do—he didn’t want the same thing to happen. They hadn’t been able to stop Mr. Afton from taking the young girl—Susie.
She’d looked so... terrified. She sounded so terrified.
Given that the boy had a plushie of the animatronic—which was across the table at the moment—and he was talking about him—Spring Bonnie assumed that the boy liked Foxy.
The yellow rabbit wasn’t very surprised—who wouldn’t like a pirate fox? A lot of other children seemed to like him, from what they’d heard.
A woman sitting beside the boy, who the rabbit had to guess was his mother, began to stand up. “Fritz?” She spoke gently.
The boy, Fritz, looked up at her. “Hm?”
“I’ll be back in a minute, alright? I’m just going to do to the restroom.”
Fritz nodded. He turned away from his mother as she began walking away, reaching to take another bite from a slice of pizza.
When he felt himself beginning to walk again—or, rather, Mr. Afton, the rabbit attempted to come to a stop. However, the yellow rabbit continued. Mr. Afton, stop!
Before anything was said, Fritz seemed to hear the footsteps, and turned, dropping his pizza back onto the plate. He waved.
The yellow rabbit waved back. “Hello, kiddo!”
Fritz waved again, smiling. Although the boy didn’t say anything, remaining silent.
“Do you like Foxy, kiddo?”
Fritz’s smile was quick to grow, and he immediately nodded. Oh...
He’s... he’s bad! Fritz, don’t listen to him! Don’t listen to Mr. Afton! The yellow rabbit wished that the words would actually come out—that they would be heard.
They hadn’t been heard earlier with Susie—he was never heard when he was in Suit Mode—unless it was Mr. Afton. Mr. Afton shouldn’t be heard right now.
“You know,” Mr Afton continued, his own grin growing. “Foxy wanted to see you!”
Staring with widened eyes now, Fritz pointed at himself, raising an eyebrow. No, no no, no...
The yellow rabbit nodded his head. “He needs help! Your help!”
Upon hearing that, Fritz immediately got out of his chair. He looked around for a second, before back up at the rabbit.
The yellow rabbit held out a large yellow paw in front of the boy. “Follow me, kiddo! Let’s go help Foxy!”
Fritz reached forward, taking hold of the animatronic’s fuzzy paw.
___
Spring Bonnie sat at the edge of a small table in the room, feet slowly swinging, as Fredbear’s hat remained close to his chest. They didn’t plan on letting it go.
I should have tried harder. The yellow rabbit’s grip on the hat tightened, and his ears remained lowered. I could have stopped him..
But they hadn’t. Despite wanting to, they hadn’t been able to prevent what had happened. Those kids were gone—and he had been apart of it.
They’d trusted him. They’d trusted Spring Bonnie. Not the man wearing and using the rabbit in the moment. Not the man using him to take their lives away.
While their memory hadn’t been the best for a while—even with far more recent moments—Spring Bonnie could remember all of the kids. They could remember their voices—screams...
They remembered each of the kids being so terrified. There was confusion at first—at Foxy not being there, or a puppy not being there, or...
Confusion—shortly followed by becoming frightened. Or, confusion, followed by bits of excitement—figuring something was hidden—and then fright.
“Did they... did they think I wanted to...?” The yellow rabbit wondered aloud, voice barely above a whisper.
It was a rather distressing thought. It was something they’d never wanted to do—they didn’t dream of ever harming a child. Why would they ever want to?
He’d seen Fritz’s before she left for a moment—the rabbit had seen all of the children’s loved ones. Nobody had been aware what was going to happen. How would they know?
The animatronic hadn’t really seen any of them after that. He couldn’t tell when it had happened—how long had it been already? How were the parents?
Were they trying to find their children? If a search was happening, how long had it been going on for? It had felt like yesterday when Mr. Afton had used him for that.
However, the animatronic rabbit had a feeling that it had been a little longer than that. Everything felt rather slow, though.
How were the parents handling everything? None of them knew what had truly happened—the truth. Did they have hope that their children would be found? Found alive?
What was going to happen if everything was figured out? How would they handle it all? I’m sorry..
When Mr. Afton had been using him, Spring Bonnie had thought back to his springlocks. For a moment, he thought that he could take back control—maybe use his springlocks to stop the man.
But... they knew everything about their springlocks. In the past, there had been some accidents. A few times when in Animatronic Mode, and once, way earlier, with Mr. Afton inside.
Unlike the previous moments, it hadn’t been caused by water—he couldn’t remember what exactly had been the cause, though. Maybe Mr. Afton had done something wrong?
Despite wanting to stop the man, the yellow rabbit hadn’t wanted to hurt him—they didn’t want to hurt anyone. So, attempting to use those had been crossed out.
They didn’t like the springlocks very much.
___
The yellow rabbit’s ears twitched at the new noise. It wasn’t much of a good one—crying, Spring Bonnie realized. Didn’t that mean someone was sad? What was wrong?
It sounded like a child. While the Diner wasn’t open yet today, the rabbit knew that Mr. Emily and Mr. Afton were here. The two’s children were usually brought here with them.
Charlotte—Mr. Emily’s daughter, was rather sweet. Spring Bonnie remembered a time where she had given him and Fredbear some drawings.
There was Michael, Mr. Afton’s eldest—the boy aways had a Foxy mask with him. Spring Bonnie had taken notice to three other boys a few times—they had their own masks, too.
With how the crying sounded, the animatronic doubted that it could be Michael, though. He didn’t recall him being brought here today, either.
Then, there was Mr. Afton’s younger children—Elizabeth and Evan. The younger boy always seemed nervous about Fredbear—but he carried around a plushie.
“Fred?”
The yellow bear looked up from the ground, and towards the yellow rabbit, his own ears twitching. “Are you hearing that, too?”
Spring Bonnie nodded. As he started to get off of the little stage, the rabbit glanced back at his friend. “Let’s go. Maybe we can help them?”
Fredbear let out a quiet hum in response. He set his microphone down, and hopped off of the stage—stumbling for a moment, but he didn’t fall.
Remaining by each other’s side, the animatronics began to wander, trying to find where the crying was coming from—and the source.
Fredbear came to a sudden stop, and tapped Spring Bonnie on the shoulder. The rabbit turned their head to look at the bear. “Hm?”
The animatronic bear pointed, and Spring Bonnie followed along. He was pointing at a room towards the right. It wasn’t too far from their stage.
The door was closed, and while muffled, the crying was closer. Spring Bonnie couldn’t remember where the door led to—or what the room was used for.
“Hello?” The rabbit gently called out. He moved towards it, Fredbear following behind him. While there wasn’t an answer, Spring Bonnie opened it.
In the corner of the room, he spotted the source of the noise. It was Mr. Afton’s youngest son, Evan. He held a plushie close to him tightly.
“Hey...” That caught the child’s attention—looking up at them after a second with watery eyes. He scooted back ever so slightly.
Slowly, Spring Bonnie took a step inside. He glanced back for a moment, only to find Fredbear partially hiding himself. His ears twitched.
“I know how he feels,” The bear whispered, “He doesn’t need to see me right now. I don’t want to make him more stressed, Spring.”
Humming, Spring Bonnie turned back around, focusing on the young boy. He took slow steps, before kneeling down. He tried not to be too close—he wanted to give him enough space.
“Hey, buddy... what’s wrong?”
The boy just sniffled in response. He opened his mouth for a second, seemingly to say something, but all that came out was a cry.
The rabbit knew of his springlocks—what could happen—and how they were typically set off. The rabbit knew what typically caused him to malfunction. But, they could try to be careful.
Spring Bonnie spread his arms. “Hey, kiddo... want to come here? It’s okay.”
Evan stared at the yellow rabbit in front of him, wiping at his eyes with one hand—while the other kept a grip on the Fredbear plushie.
A few seconds passed, and the young boy started to make his way over to where the yellow rabbit was. He fully sat down, instead of being crouched.
Sniffling, Evan hugged the fuzzy rabbit, and Spring Bonnie carefully wrapped his arms around him. “It’s alright...”
___
Spring Bonnie hadn’t been able to help it—they’d just felt rather curious. They’d looked out through the window a couple of times, but had never gone out.
They’d always wanted to go out, even if it was for just a few minutes or so. There wasn’t really anything that he wanted to do—he just wanted to be out there.
He remembered speaking to Fredbear about it once or twice. And while his friend seemed a little curious, he never seemed to want to actively go out.
After going through the front doors, Spring Bonnie simply stood there, staring up at the sky. He could see things flying above him—birds, if he remembered right?
Looking at the sky, there were a lot of clouds up there today. There wasn’t much blue that they could see through those—or the sun.
Drip. Spring Bonnie’s ears twitched, and then they looked around for a second. Yet, they didn’t see anything that could have been the source of that.
Drip. Drip. Drip. They looked around further. For a second, Spring Bonnie thought that he saw something hit the ground near him.
“Spring?” While somewhat distant, they could still recognize Fredbear’s voice from inside the Diner. He was finally active, it seemed.
Drip. Drip. Drip. Drip. As the yellow rabbit turned to look back towards the doors, he flinched at the sudden feeling of something hitting him.
It wasn’t hard or anything—but... rather weird. Something wet? Wet—it made them feel weird... and a little bad. Not good. What was it?
Drip. Drip. Drip. Drip. Drip.
The feeling wasn’t good. Spring Bonnie began to back up as it continued—was it getting worse? They could feel themselves beginning to twitch—shake. Their vision was... glitching?
The yellow rabbit shuddered at a sudden feeling of... pain? Pain? Through his glitching vision, he looked up—the wet stuff was coming from the sky.
Spring Bonnie felt himself start to fall back.
~
“Spring?”
Fredbear? The yellow rabbit felt his ears twitch. Why did he sound so... concerned? “Spring Bonnie?”
Starting to see again—which, thankfully, their vision didn’t seem so... weird, like earlier, Spring Bonnie started to look around.
He wasn’t outside any longer. He was back inside the Diner—in the room that was used for repairs—and also happened to contain other suits.
To their right, Fredbear sat. His ears were lowered, and with one hand, he held one of the yellow rabbit’s.
“Fredbear?”
“Spring Bonnie,” The yellow rabbit turned away from his friend at the other voice—Mr. Emily’s. He was standing in front of the two.
“What were you doing outside?”
“I just... it looked nice. It was nice.” The yellow rabbit answered after a moment, moving closer to the yellow bear.
“Fredbear told me he saw you out there when he activated. He saw you collapse, and came to me, all panicked.” Mr. Emily explained.
Spring Bonnie glanced back at his friend—if it were possible, the rabbit would have frowned—both of them would have. “Something hit me...”
“It’s raining outside.” Mr. Emily answered.
“Raining?” The yellow rabbit’s ears twitched. “Why did that... why’d it cause me to do that?”
“Well,” The man started.
___
The last time he’d seen the children... Spring Bonnie couldn’t entirely recall. Evan... the boy was going to have a birthday. It was going to happen at the Diner.
No. Spring Bonnie shook their head. They messed with Fredbear’s hat, before placing it atop their head. With their ears lowered, it wasn’t much of a problem.
It already happened. His birthday happened. The yellow rabbit could remember discussions of it here and there—and then the events... mostly.
Misty. Foggy. Blocked. That’s what he’d taken to referring to his iffy memories. It was the best thing that the yellow rabbit could come up with.
He remembered Mr. Afton arriving at the diner that day—Evan close behind him, holding the Fredbear plushie close like usual. He’d seemed more nervous than usual.
Michael had arrived a little later—wearing his Foxy mask, like usual. They could remember the teenager’s friends with him—each with a different mask.
The yellow rabbit could recall everything up until Evan, Michael, and the teen’s friends started to make their way towards the stage.
He didn’t understand why Evan was always messed with—were siblings always like that? The yellow rabbit wouldn’t know. He didn’t have one.
Mr. Afton and Mr. Emily’s children... Spring Bonnie hoped that they were alright. They hadn’t seen any of them in some time. Do they know?
Are they alright? Spring Bonnie shifted around slightly, staring towards the door for a moment, before down at their hands. Did he do anything?
___
A boy, just a little older than Susie and Fritz by the looks of it, was wandering around—almost seeming a little lost. Mr. Afton...
Just like the previous times, as the two of them made their way to the boy, the yellow rabbit’s attempts weren’t doing anything.
Springlocks... He heard pop up within his mind. The yellow rabbit knew how they worked—but he himself had never activated those willingly.
Every other time it had happened—so far, they’d counted four, it had been on accident for one reason or another. Mostly water.
The springlocks hurt. Hurt him—and Mr. Afton. He’d been in Suit Mode the time the last accident occurred—and the man had been wearing him.
Spring Bonnie wanted to stop him. He did. But to hurt him? Hurt anyone purposely? Even with what the man was doing, he didn’t want to hurt him—or worse.
Even if the yellow rabbit chose to go through with that idea, he didn’t know how to activate the springlocks by himself—he couldn’t do anything right now.
“What’s the matter, kiddo?”
The boy looked up, frowning. “I... didn’t mean to get separated from her. There’s just... a lot of people here, and...” He trailed off.
“Your mother?”
The young boy nodded.
Mr. Afton clapped his—the yellow rabbit’s—hands together. “Oh, dear...” He hummed. “Well, kiddo, I’ve got some good news!”
Without waiting for a response from the boy, he continued. “I know where your mother is! She’s worried sick.”
“She is?” His frown grew.
As he nodded, the boy spoke up again. “Can... can you take me to her, please? I don’t want to let her keep worrying...”
“Why, of course!” Mr. Afton hummed. He reached down, carefully picking up the kid. The boy was a bit surprised, but was rather relaxed.
As the three of them began walking away, Mr. Afton glanced back at the kid in his arms. “What’s your name?”
“Gabriel.”
___
Looking around... this didn’t seem like the same place, Spring Bonnie realized. Where he’d been in before, it was much smaller, and there were a few boxes and a table.
This was different, though. This room was somewhat bigger, and there wasn’t much in there except for three gray arcade machines.
What? Ears twitching, Spring Bonnie looked around further, yet there really didn’t seem to be much else. The room seemed rather old, too.
What am I doing here? Slowly, the yellow rabbit began to rise. Who had moved them? Had Mr. Afton come by and done so for whatever reason?
He didn’t remember the man coming by recently. But then again, the rabbit’s memories still hadn’t been great.
Thinking back, everything was starting to get misty—foggy—just like the memories that were further back. But it wasn’t like they weren’t accessible.
Everything felt like it was starting to get... mashed together. As he spent time in that room, it all, frankly, felt the same.
As the yellow rabbit stood to their full height, ears continuing to twitch, they felt as if... something was missing? But what?
Spring Bonnie lifted a hand to rest atop his head, and that was when it hit the rabbit hard. The rabbit’s eyes widened.
“His hat!” Spring Bonnie shouted aloud, ears shooting straight up. They thought they heard a sort of static in their voice—but that was the least of the animatronic’s worries.
Spring Bonnie knew that he’d been keeping Fredbear’s hat on him. It was either in the rabbit’s hands, or atop his head, in between his ears.
“Where...?” That time, the rabbit could hear the static far more clearly. Spring Bonnie moved away from where he’d been, and began wandering.
Drip. Drip. His ears twitched at the noise, but the rabbit didn’t pay much attention. He took a little mental note to try and be careful.
They hadn’t planned on leaving it—was it hidden somewhere in this room? Had it fallen off when they were being moved? Was it still in the other room?
Where was that other place? Why had they been moved?
___
Struggling, they began moving the last arcade machine back to its original spot. Just like the last two, there wasn’t anything—not the hat.
The yellow rabbit lifted their head, no longer staring down at the ground. They froze, staring at their hands that rested against the arcade machine.
Spring Bonnie had sworn that they were fine—that his hands had been clean. However, staring at them now, both were stained. They were red. There was blood.
The yellow rabbit stumbled backwards, his stained hands—his body—beginning to shake. “N-No... no...”
The animatronic kept going backwards in his panic—at least until he felt himself hit the wall behind him. There, the yellow rabbit stood, shaking.
They shut their eyes tightly, a whimper escaping the rabbit. Spring Bonnie slid down, sitting in the old, lonely room.
He’d never liked anything being this quiet. The only noises from within the room were the rabbit’s own noises, and an occasional drip.
When Spring Bonnie reopened his eyes a moment later, not bothering to move his ears, a wave of confusion—yet at the same time, relief, hit the rabbit.
Staring down at their hands, they were... clean. There was nothing—there was no blood—on them any longer.
___
Spring Bonnie remained silent—no longer trying to speak. Despite their attempts, nothing had been working. He wasn’t able to warn anyone.
Mr. Afton was simply continuing, and all the yellow rabbit was able to do was watch. Has he always wanted to do this...?
The two of them began approaching another child. He’d just gotten something—although Spring Bonnie couldn’t tell what—as a prize. It looked like a plushie.
Leaving that area, he began walking off—seemingly towards where some of the games were. I thought he was good... nice...
Using the yellow rabbit’s arm, Mr. Afton moved the big ears—which had been lowered, blocking his sight. He moved them back up.
Both of them knew the kid’s name. Spring Bonnie thought that he heard a woman’s voice say “Jeremy.” He couldn’t see where the boy’s parents could be.
They’d been hoping that someone would see the two of them—that they’d see Mr. Afton—that someone would take Jeremy away. Maybe because it was time for him to go home.
Yet, that wasn’t happening. Nobody was preventing the terrible events. Spring Bonnie couldn’t—the children’s parents weren’t ever close by. Gabriel had even been lost—separated.
As the two of them stopped next to Jeremy, Spring Bonnie glanced towards the game for a moment. All of them seemed rather fun—but they’d never gotten the chance to play any.
It seemed like a lot of children liked one that he’d seen earlier—the one Susie had been playing before Mr. Afton came around. Although, he didn’t know the name.
Jeremy was staring up at the two of them—at the yellow rabbit. “Hey, kid.”
“Yes?”
“I’ve got a big surprise for you!” Mr. Afton began, chuckling. “Let’s just say that it might involve some cake—some special treats—and certain blue bunny!”
“Oops!” Mr. Afton placed a hand over the yellow rabbit’s permanently grinning mouth. “I think I just ruined the surprise... didn’t I?”
Completely forgetting about the game, Jeremy moved closer, shaking his head. He reached forward, grabbing the yellow rabbit’s other hand.
“No, no! It’s alright, Spring Bonnie.” Jeremy answered. It isn’t me...
“Come on, let’s go!”
He chuckled, then nodded, removing his hand. “Alright!”
___
As the rabbit laid there, having not moved for some time—what was the time?—how much time has gone by already... even more?—he began to think further.
Drip. Drip. Drip. The yellow rabbit barely paid much attention to it—it wasn’t near him, anyways. However, it did seem to be happening in more areas.
What if they had been able to do something? Anything? Was there anything that the yellow rabbit could have done to prevent what Mr. Afton had done?
What if he had, somehow, managed to control himself? Get himself back into Animatronic Mode, not Suit Mode. What if he had been able to say something?
If they had ever been able to do anything, then the children would be alright—they’d be perfectly okay. He wouldn’t have been used to harm them. Mr. Afton wouldn’t have been able to do it.
The parents wouldn’t have lost their children—they’d all still have them. They wouldn’t need to be scared or worried—none of them would be needing to grieve.
Maybe the rabbit should have tried harder.
Drip. Drip.
___
“Hello!” The yellow rabbit tiredly stared down—fully seeing once Mr. Afton moved their ears again. He seemed just a little annoyed about that.
In front of the two of them, he saw another kid—how many had Mr. Afton lured already? What number was she going to be? The rabbit hadn’t been counting.
The girl had long black hair—long enough that it was, currently, held together in a ponytail. Compared to the other children Spring Bonnie had seen, she seemed somewhat older.
They were all still young, though. They were all still just children. Children that didn’t deserve this. Any of it.
Like Jeremy, Spring Bonnie thought that he had caught her name earlier—although, he couldn’t fully remember it. It had started with a C.
The black-haired girl stared up, backing up slightly. Yet she didn’t leave. Please do... you need to...
Spring Bonnie dived into his mind—thinking back to previous moments. Better moments. He thought he could still hear the two of them—Mr. Afton and the girl.
They didn’t want to hear him. They didn’t want to hear what he was saying. They didn’t want to hear panic—the screams. Why is this happening...?
Why did it have to be happening at all? What did the children do to deserve this? Spring Bonnie had a feeling that the answer was nothing. They didn’t do anything for this.
The children were innocent, Spring Bonnie knew that. They were here at the restaurant for one reason or another—the place was supposed to bring joy, he knew that, too.
Spring Bonnie didn’t want to be used for this. This new purpose that Mr. Afton had chosen to use him for. Does he enjoy this? Why?
The yellow rabbit snapped back to his surroundings when he felt his hand move. Looking down, it was being held out for the girl.
“Come along, Cassidy.”
The girl—Cassidy, stood there for a moment, staring at the fuzzy hand. Spring Bonnie hadn’t been listening, but he wondered what Mr. Afton had told her.
They’d been listening when Mr. Afton had spoken to the other children. Maybe to see one of the others? They wished they could frown.
Cassidy reached over, taking hold of the yellow rabbit’s hand. Mr. Afton held it tightly, so that she wouldn’t be able to run off.
“You’ll love it!” He chuckled.
___
Drip. Drip. Drip.
Drip. Drip.
Spring Bonnie groggily stared in the direction of where a new noise was coming from. It was something he’d heard before, but hadn’t heard it in some time.
Footsteps. Someone was here—wherever ‘here’ was. They’d never left the room. They couldn’t. Who...?
He didn’t have to wonder for long. A few moments later, a man burst into the room—he looked rather panicked. In his left hand was an axe, which was promptly tossed aside.
The man looked... a little different at least, but was still rather recognizable—at least to Spring Bonnie. Mr. Afton...?
Drip.
Drip.
The yellow rabbit had assumed that it was only him—but if he was running, and seemed scared...
Spring Bonnie stared, startled, when five small figures appeared behind Mr. Afton. They were all rather short—somewhat see-through, and each had masks.
One had a Chica mask, the one across from her had a Foxy mask—then a Bonnie mask, and a Freddy mask. Then, one had a yellow Freddy mask.
It sort of reminded Spring Bonnie of Fredbear—but with the hat, it was black. Black tears were spilling from the eye holes of the mask.
The yellow rabbit kept staring. They knew those figures. They recognized those ghosts. They were all something that the animatronic wouldn’t forget.
Drip.
Drip.
Drip.
The children...? Spring Bonnie had heard of ghosts—they were something that he somewhat believed in, but had never imagined seeing.
The ghost with the Golden Freddy mask—which Spring Bonnie had to assume was Cassidy—he remembered her hair—began approaching Mr. Afton.
The other ghost’s simply remained where they had first appeared, watching the two of them. What is she going to do? She seemed angry.
“Stay away!” Mr. Afton, as he backed away from the approaching ghost girl, began looking around in a panic.
The yellow rabbit would have frowned when they realized that Mr. Afton had spotted them. He was grinning now as he hurried over.
Drip.
In an instant, Mr. Afton was by the animatronic’s side, and hurriedly began putting Spring Bonnie on. The children watched, glancing at each other.
Drip.
Mr. Afton, wearing the yellow rabbit, took a few small steps towards the group of ghosts. Spring Bonnie heard a noise from the man—laughter.
The ghosts glared, yet none of them got any closer. They stared at the two—but seemed to be watching something else.
Drip.
Spring Bonnie heard it. They hadn’t been focusing on it much—it hadn’t ever hit them while they were stuck in the room yet. They knew what it was, though.
Water. It had been doing that quite often. His best guess was that it was raining, and because of some holes, it was free to come inside.
The yellow rabbit... started to have a feeling on what was about to happen. It felt obvious.
Drip.
Spring Bonnie felt anxious. The last times it had happened, it had never been good—it had hurt. Usually only himself—but then Mr. Afton had a springlock failure once.
It had hurt them both.
Drip.
He felt himself go tense—the rabbit could hear Mr. Afton’s laughter quickly come to a halt. The water had finally started hitting him.
Drip.
Mr. Afton was going to go through another. Spring Bonnie was going to have another. His previous one involved the man—and so was this one.
He’d felt horrible the previous time—he hated seeing Mr. Afton in pain—he hated hearing Mr. Emily panic—he hated hearing the screams.
Drip.
Drip.
The screaming... speaking of which, it had started again. Spring Bonnie wanted to do it, too. But he couldn’t. He remained silent. It was all he could do.
Just like how he had done with the children, the yellow rabbit tried to block out the man’s screaming. The children’s had been worse.
He remembered most of them begging—begging for the rabbit to stop. He remembered them being confused. Sad. Scared.
Drip.
Spring Bonnie didn’t dare look around at himself. He could feel Mr. Afton’s blood beginning to pour through parts of his suit. He didn’t want to see it.
Even if they looked, the rabbit had a feeling that they wouldn’t see a lot for too much longer—they weren’t feeling good. Their vision was getting bad.
Drip.
In the corner of the room, the children remained, all watching. What do they think...? The yellow rabbit found himself wondering.
Drip.
The children kept watching—none saying a single thing. Did they ever think that I wanted to...? What do they think now...?
Drip.
As Spring Bonnie felt himself and Mr. Afton collapse onto the ground, the yellow rabbit realized that he didn’t hear any screaming.
Yet, despite that, the yellow rabbit knew that Mr. Afton was still alive—for now, at least. They knew how long it would be. It wasn’t something instant.
Drip.
When Mr. Afton had gone through the springlocking years ago, Mr. Emily had been there to help him—the man had been sent to a hospital.
The man had gotten help.
This time was different. Of course it was. It was going to stay that way. The man wasn’t going to get help.
Drip.
From where Spring Bonnie lay, he could see the children suddenly disappear from the room—leaving only him and Mr. Afton.
Drip.
Spring Bonnie knew that this was going to be different. Mr. Afton wasn’t going to get help—did anyone know that the man was in this place? Did anyone know what he did?
The yellow rabbit himself wasn’t going to get help, either. The only person that had ever seen him more recently was Mr. Afton.
Did anyone know where either of them were? What’s going to happen?
Drip.
Where’d Fredbear ever go? The yellow rabbit wondered.
Drip.
Is he okay? Will he be okay? Spring Bonnie felt Mr. Afton twitch. A noise escaped him—but it wasn’t much of a scream.
Drip.
Drip.
Drip.
The yellow rabbit was feeling worse—they knew what was going to happen shortly—and nobody would fix them. He tried not to feel that scared.
I wish I could see him again... A noise escaped again—but Spring Bonnie didn’t think that it was from Mr. Afton. What would he think...?
Drip.
Spring Bonnie had never wanted to harm Mr. Afton—having shoved the springlock idea away rather quickly. But... a part of the rabbit felt... relieved. Happy.
Maybe this was the best option...? The animatronic wondered. He didn’t know what else could be done. Am I bad for feeling that? Thinking this?
Drip.
Drip.
As everything faded—the yellow rabbit feeling himself disappear—shut off—one last thought presented itself. He would’ve smiled wider if he could.
Mr. Afton won’t be able to harm anyone again...

I would like to stop having wack days at my work, especially ones that instigate me staying over, please, please fewer wack days.
I can think of maybe three, in the last month that have not been wrenches in my life. And I do believe. I have been here 5 days. a week. Almost all month. That's too many days! Too many days, folks!

Older Step-Brother!Levi, who's completely uninterested in getting to know you. So what if your parents got hitched? It's not any of his business. He hasn't even met you yet, but the more he hears about you, the more annoyed he is for reasons he doesn’t understand. He doesn't care about what university you're going to, or what your grades are, or that you like "the same cartoons and games" he does. He's not going out of his way just to meet you. It's not even worth his time to look you up online. He couldn't care less.
Older Step-Brother!Levi, who you only know vague details about before you meet him for the first time. You don't understand what he does exactly, only that he's good with computers and works freelance and somehow affords his own house in an expensive neighbourhood a few hours away. He might be older than you, but not that much older. Your stomach does somersaults when you think about meeting him because he's new and unfamiliar. Still, you’re cautiously optimistic that maybe if you get along, you can be friends.
Older Step-Brother!Levi, who finally meets you when you go home for the first reading week of the semester. He ran out of excuses to avoid attending a pointless family gathering, and he's just desperate to get his old man off his back about being a recluse. He has his game plan ready: after playing nice for a couple of days, he'll go back home and pretend you don't exist.
Older Step-Brother!Levi, who slowly realizes that maybe you have more in common than he realized. You're not some airhead or annoying social butterfly soaking in the riches of his father's fortune. You mumble your name and glance at him shyly from under your lashes and shuffle on the balls of your feet like you're too nervous to stand still. Levi feels self-conscious too because you point out the anime figure keychain dangling from his car keys and the cute vinyl stickers he decorated his car with. He assumes you're going to tease him, but you chatter on excitedly about how they're some of your favourite characters too. He hesitantly takes the second controller when you invite him to play games in your room, and you're mediocre at best. (It's still endearing when you cheer not because you won the race, but because you avoided driving off the rainbow track.) You might not be hardcore like him, but there's something almost cute about your enthusiasm. Why is your awkward laughter so contagious?
"Why did you choose this room?" he asked between races. Your bedroom isn't tiny by any means, but he knows his old room has nearly twice the amount of space. "I figured you would've cleared out my room, it's a lot bigger." You scratched the back of your neck and shrugged, eyes focused on the TV to avoid his scrutiny. "It didn't feel right going into your room and clearing out the rest of your belongings like that. It's still yours, even if you don't live here anymore." You tapped the gamepad and waited for him to select his character for the next match. "Want to keep playing?" He snapped his head away from your face and looked at the screen, choosing a character at random while he resisted the urge to cover his face in embarrassment. His cheeks burned hot. "Y-yeah, sure we can," he muttered nervously, cringing when his voice cracked.
Older Step-Brother!Levi, who finds himself wanting to spend more and more time with you. His plan to leave after a day or two at most is officially scrapped. How can he leave so soon when you still have ten episodes of the latest season to watch together? There's a bowl of popcorn on the couch between you and when it's empty, he jingles his keys and drives you both to a late-night boba tea shop. The old folks are in bed for the night—they won't even notice you're gone.
"C'mon, you haven't finished watching it yet? But the last season is the best one!" You rub your arm awkwardly in the passenger seat beside him. "I started watching it with my ex but we—well, we broke up on bad terms and I guess it reminds me of them when I try to watch it now." You miss the curious glance when you stare out the window and you don’t elaborate further. He can only imagine the worst even though it doesn’t make sense—you're cute and sweet and who the hell would be stupid enough to ruin something so good? Your shoulders shake and you breathe out a stuttered sigh, and something venomous hardens his expression into something cold, like steel. He’s tempted to ask for your ex's name but decides not to—he suspects it’ll be easy enough to find once he gets back on his computer. He clears his throat to break the awkward silence. "Well, if you wanna try watching it again, maybe we can re-watch the whole series together?" It only takes a second for the hand resting on the gear shift to squeeze your knee gently and return to where it was. He stares at the dark road ahead even though he knows you're looking at him now. "Don't let ungrateful assholes ruin good things for you. You’ve got me now, okay?”
Older Step-Brother!Levi, who is determined to keep in touch when that short week together comes to an end. He already has blank social media accounts he uses to follow his favourite game developers and anime blogs, but now he has a new reason to use them. Once you realize it's him, you accept all his friend requests without hesitation. He even creates accounts for apps he doesn't even use so that he can see all the photos and videos you upload to your private account. He scrutinizes all your old posts and takes screenshots of the photos of you that turn him on he likes most. You don't post a lot of selfies, but he sees glimpses of your daily life: the café near campus you like, your room in the house you rent with some other classmates. Sometimes you post things that remind you of him now too, and even though you don't mention him by name or tag him, he knows who you're thinking about.
Older Step-Brother!Levi, who is surprisingly thoughtful. Sometimes he comments on your social media posts directly, but most of the time he texts you instead. You have disjointed conversations throughout the day and it becomes habit for both of you. He asks how school is going and how your roommates are treating you. You ask him about his job because you're still not sure what a freelance cybersecurity expert does. He gets flustered when you ask him if he's dating anyone and you don't bring up the subject again. Maybe he's just shy?
Player Two: ugh.
LEV14TH4N: what's wrong?
Player Two: are you sure i'm not bothering you? you must be so busy with work...
LEV14TH4N: pfft. you're not bothering me at all. i'd rather talk to you than these idiots i have to work with.
Older Step-Brother!Levi, who claims he has more money than he knows what to do with when he starts sending you little gifts. He asks for a link to your online wish list and has everything delivered express: the latest manga volume he knows you're excited to read; a pre-order for a game that's coming out soon; your favourite snacks. He also sends you an expensive housecoat when you mention off-handedly that yours is getting a little threadbare and you need to buy a new one soon. It's from a high-end boutique you've never heard of but sounds expensive. The robe is made from the softest plush material and it's so warm; it's a bluey-purple colour that reminds you a bit of his eyes. All he asks for in return is a picture once you've tried it on—to make sure that it's the right size, of course.
LEV14TH4N: you look
LEV14TH4N: sorry. it looks nice on you. i'm glad you like it.
Older Step-Brother!Levi, who never seems to sleep. He offers to skim your assignments just before the midnight submission deadline. Later, he reminds you that it's no trouble at all—he was still awake so no need to feel bad! Sometimes when you can't sleep, you scroll through your social media feed and hope the boredom will cure your insomnia, until a familiar name pops up on your screen.
LEV14TH4N: you have class in a few hours, can't sleep?
(He jokes that he just had a feeling you were still up, and you're too sleepy and flattered by his concern to question him further.)
Older Step-Brother!Levi, who makes plans on weekends to come see you at school when he thinks you could use a break. He makes the drive to town—a couple hours away from where he lives—and you spend the day at the mall, or visiting your favourite lunch or dinner spots. You invite him inside to meet your roommates and he looks around your room curiously. You seem happy here, and he's glad.
(You seem happiest with him, and that makes him feel even better.)
Older Step-Brother!Levi, who can't wait to see you on your next school break.
LEV14TH4N: the old folks are going on vacation this winter.
LEV14TH4N: but you can stay here if you want. there's lots of room and it beats spending the holidays stuck on campus by yourself.
Player Two: really? you don't mind?
LEV14TH4N: of course not.
LEV14TH4N: i'm looking forward to it.

Rodimus was born into a royal family. He never knew his carrier and his sire always hated him. One day his sire informs him that he is being married off to Megatron and Soundwave in order to end the war.
Rodimus is upset because he's heard all sorts of horror stories about the Decepticons growing up. He doesn't want to bond with them. His sire gets mad and he learns that his carrier was sent away after his sire found out they give birth with their tanks and that he has the same thing. He is pawning him off to the Decepticons because no one else will take him and it's either them or a brothel.
Learning his own sire thats always hated him sold him off to the Decepticons who were a notorious barbarian and wild kingdom with a history of vicious battle practices and punishments should not have been as much of a surprise as it had been.
Maybe it wasn’t the being sold off that was surprising but the way his sire emptied his tiny chamber with fire like a cleanse and stripped him to a sheer gown cheap shareware wore in the brothels he frequented since getting rid of his carrier, another surprise he had not known, was the surprise.
Being grabbed and stripped down for all to see was shameful and scarring on his processor but for his sire to say he was glad to be rid of him after spitting on his fabrics was a new low even for his sire.
“I’ve finally rid this kingdom of the last filthy tank pest and now good fortune can finally befall us with you gone. First your disease of a carrier that I rid to the wilds and later watched be torn apart by beasts when they came back for you. And now I’m finally rid of you. A stain on my bloodline and kingdom.”
He couldn’t view clearly with the smoke and coolant leaking from his optics as his sire smashed the crate closed and sent him off on a one way shipping container that would later be burned for use by the decepticon faction.
Much like himself.
He could only lay on the wooden planks and sob to himself as he realized he was on a slow shipment to his torment and death. He would suffer a fate of pain much like carrier who’d been discarded like rotten meat in such a delicate state to the literal cyber wolves.
His forehelm kissed the rough crate giving him scratches along his face plates and wood rub as tears and smoke seeped his optics. The pungent scent did little to assuage the change of city to deep wilderness and by the time he stopped mourning over a creator, the only creator, who loved him and risked their life to get to him.
He was at the outskirts of Decepticon territory where the boarding guards grabbed his crate and spoke in a foreign language his processor did not know.
The em field of confusion gave him the impression none knew he was inside and he was correct in his assumptions since most sent the offered conjunx in royal finery with their creator by their side. If he were worthy of such traditions he wouldn’t be here at all and allowed to roam the castles doing as he pleased while training to take over the thrown like the few royal families from his stories allowed their sparklings.
But that was nothing short of a sparkling tale.
This was real.
And his reality was unsealed by clawed servos a few hours later inside what seemed to be a cabin kept warm by a large fire.
He shuttered his optics closed, arms tightening around his exposed nozzles as his stabilizers hiked up to hide his exposed reproductive array. He couldn’t seize the cold shivering and chatter of his denta but he could try blocking out the horrified gasps and sounds of heavy pedes rushing off as tentacles leered above him.
He wasn’t expecting a soft blanket to cover and wrap around him. The warm, delicate, tentacles that lifted him from inside the crate and gently checked him over was also an optic opener.
Deep purple, black with hints of deep blue along with gray entered his bleary optics and the foreign language yet again reached his audials that came into focus.
He didn’t understand what they were saying to one another but he knew the field of disbelief and anger when it burst forth and presented itself in a physical manifestation of clenched servos and he was not ready to mentally handle the torture they would give him.
“Wait! I’ll make it easy! Just please don’t!”
He kept his optics down from meeting glowing red and the black visor that he couldn’t see anything past and tilted his neck cables to show submission. He was shaky in his movements as he forced himself to hold the position and lower the blanket but tentacles stopped him and the fields were hidden from his sensor net.
Rodimus couldn’t comprehend exactly what that meant or what they wanted from him since he knew he was sold for whatever they desired from him and seeing as his sire always spoke of him being nothing more than brothel material he figured his conjunx selling would basically be the same purpose.
“Mistake: anger toward sire. Intention: to have as conjunx, equal conjunx. Slave: you are not.”
The purple and deep blue mechs voice module was deceptively deep and an odd soothing capability that made Rodimus almost believe what he was saying.
“My conjunx is correct. We asked for your servo in conjunx ritus. Not to be sold and treated like this. May we know who did this to you? We shall send word to your kingdom and hunt down the scoundrels who’ve defiled and hurt you as such.”
The command and seething yet restrained emotions that swam in the other mechs vox told Rodimus this was the leader of the decepticons who lead his armies to ruin the cities and kingdoms that dare stood in his way. This was the kings conjunx who stood right by his side and conquered in equal just as he did.
This was the pair his sire sold him to.
Two mechs he couldn’t hope to defend himself from no matter the kind words they try to imply nor the care they show now…they were mechs in power just as his sire…one wrong move…
“I can freshen myself and become presentable. There is no need to worry or concern. I am fine.”
“You are most certainly not,” the king burst forth.
The purple mech held out a quiet servo to the king and took a clip step closer making Rodimus vents hitch.
“Wash racks: in need of. First aid: inside as well. Come: it will help.”
The slender mech used his tentacles to tighter around his frame and lift him further as he carried him easily to the wash racks that looked beautiful and cleaner than the rooms of his old kingdom. Not dirtied by polluted metals or filth. Carved, smoothed and crafted along with the earth and holed with warmth.
It made him less anxious as a solvent was ran and he was quietly directed to where everything was located before being given a key that locked the room from the inside and he was left in private where he stared at the closed door for a klik too long then rushed to lock it and stand with his back plates to it. Gaze searching for a way out only to stutter his vents with each realization that hit him.
He didn’t know where he was.
This could be a trick.
He could be surrounded.
His sire would not take him back.
He was all alone with no currency, no farming skills and no trade skills nor craftsmanship.
He was slagged and stuck here.
‘Frag,’ he sobbed outwardly, as he slid to the floor, balling up to hold himself just as he once did in the kingdom as a sparkling when locked in the dungeons.
‘Frag!’
He did not hear the quiet that rung out his sobs nor the promise made between two kings to destroy the rule of Rodimus’s sire who sold off his own creation when they only wanted his servo and spark after being graced with his kindness all those years ago.

Sonic Cyber Revolution, Entry 58: The Rush Adventure
Tumblr media
''Life starts with a sunny day, let's feel our ocean breath! We are cruisin' open seas, can't wait for a new venture!''
– A New Venture by Sonic Rush Adventure
xXxXxXx
Lucas had to admit that he was glad that the familiar prickling of anxiety had gradually disappeared and was replaced with complete confidence whenever he had to fulfill his duty as the Leader of Team Neos, especially when he had some exciting news for his friends. Speaking of which, said team was gathered at the Taylor Workshop, which has pretty much become the main gathering spot for them, eagerly awaiting the news.
''I got a message from Sana last night, and she and Blaze have invited us to visit them at the Surya Empire,'' he told everyone. The reaction was, as expected, filled with excitement and chatter about seeing their old friends. Despite living in a completely different country, Team Neos, mainly Lucas and Minami, decided to take charge of keeping in contact with Sana and Blaze, telling them about their adventures in Neos City and even giving them a detailed description of how to utilize Chaos Surge when Sana expressed the desire to learn how to use it.
''I can't wait to see Blaze and Sana again,'' Silver said, with Amy, who was sitting next to him, nodding in agreement. ''It feels like it has been so long since we met them.''
''I know that you're all excited to see them, but there is something we need to discuss first,'' Lucas said, drawing everyone's attention. ''How are we going to make the trip from Neos City, Starpoint Area, to Karuna, Surya Empire, considering how that country is located overseas?'' There was a moment of silence, with everyone staring at him, causing Lucas to continue, ''Before anyone says the obvious, I have checked the prices for flight tickets, which aren't the cheapest for a bunch of teenagers, as well as how long it would take us to get there, which would be around 11 hours. Sana and Blaze will be accomodating us once we get there, so we don't have to worry about where we'll stay. Still, this would be a trip we'd need to prepare for properly, not just leave whenever we want.''
''About the flight, maybe I could arrange something so we wouldn't have to worry about the cost of the trip,'' Lily said, with everyone giving her a curious look. ''My parents have access to a private plane which they use for business trips, since Rising Quest has branches in multiple countries and my parents aren't fans of commerical flights. I could ask them whether it would be fine to use it for our trip.''
''Okay, but what if they refuse? From what I'm understanding, the plane is supposed to be used for business purposes only,'' Makoto pointed out.
''True, but I have a way of convincing them to borrow it for this trip,'' Lily replied, a sly smirk forming on her lips.
''If that's so, then we still have to agree on a date. We're still several weeks away from summer holidays, but I don't think school shouldn't be much of an obstacle given our system. I had also called my parents about this, and they were fine with letting me go on this trip, so long as I'm with Sonic,'' Lucas explained, with the azure hedgehog giving him a cheeky grin.
''Dude, saying that they were 'fine with the trip' is an understatement. They were actually really excited to hear that you want to visit another country,'' Sonic pointed out. ''Besides, I think it would be best if we leave as soon as possible.''
''I think it won't be hard to get our parents' consent for this trip,'' Minami said, with the rest of the team agreeing with her. Considering the circumstances and the fact that the one who invited them for the visit was the imperial princess, it would be rude to decline the invitation.
''There is one more thing to consider, though,'' Shadow suddenly said, drawing everyone's attention. ''Have you forgotten that we would be leaving Neos City at the mercy of the Doctor?''
This caused everyone to suddenly fall silent, as they realized they sort of forgot about Dr. Eggman and the fact that he could easily attack the city in their absence. However, Sonic waved it off.
''Knowing Eggman, I don't think he'd be interested in launching an attack on the city if I'm not here. After all, that wouldn't be how the game works, and Eggman is dedicated to form,'' Sonic pointed out, confidently, with Shadow giving him a doubtful look.
''I wouldn't be as confident as you are,'' Shadow told him, arms folded across his chest.
''Oh, com'n, Shads, have a little faith.'' Sonic attempted to persuade the dark hedgehog, not at all intimidated by his steely gaze. ''Point is, this is all a game to him, and if I'm not around to provide a challenge, he won't be interested in attacking the city.''
''While that is true, I really hope that this won't be him deciding to just take over Neos City while we're away,'' Tails said, giving Sonic a look of concern.
''We could ask Rouge and Omega to keep an eye out for him. After all, Omega had been itching to annihilate Dr. Eggman,'' Touka suggested.
''I suppose we could do that,'' Shadow muttered, glancing at Sonic, who just gave him an assuring smile. He then sighed, but nodded in agreement.
''Okay, then we should go and prepare. Lily and Knuckles, you give me a call if you manage to secure the transport,'' Lucas said, with Lily and Knuckles nodding in acknowledgement.
xXx
''You want to go where?!''
''You want do do what?!''
Lily's parents were completely baffled when they heard their daughter's demand. Ever since she had brought Knuckles back home to act as her Guardian, her parents were making compromise after compromise in regards to where she was allowed to go. Only recently, they had found out what she was really up and were immediately intimidated into complying with her demands after she punched a hole through the wall of the mansion. Realizing that there was really nothing they could do to keep their daughter confined at home, they finally relented and let her do whatever she wanted as long as she was safe. They had figured that this would keep her calm and at peace, only to get hit by a sudden demand that left them stunned.
''As I had told you, me and my friends want to go to the Surya Empire and I wondered if it would be fine to take the plane you use for the business,'' Lily repeated her request.
''No, absolutely not! How can you even think of travelling into another country?'' Lily's father. Knuckles gave Lily a curious look, wondering if he should intervene, but Lily's expression told him that she had everything under control.
''Didn't you use it for vacation several months ago?'' Lily asked in a deadpan tone, leaving her parents a little flustered, only to immediately follow up with, ''But, I guess that's okay. I will have to tell the imperial princess that I'd have to reject her invitation.''
''W-Wait a moment!'' Lily's mother interrupted her. ''Did you just say the imperial princess?''
''Yeah, we were invited by the Imperial Princess of the Surya Empire, Sana Jai, personally,'' Lily clarified, a smirk forming on her lips when she saw her parents' shocked expressions. ''We actually met her a while ago when she was visiting Neos City.''
''Well, if it's the imperial princess, it would be plain rude to refuse an invitation,'' Lily's mother suddenly spoke up. Knuckles rose an eyebrow at her sudden change in attitude.
''I agree. It would be a bad idea to just reject the offer,'' Lily's father added. ''I hope you and your friends know how to behave before the princess.''
''Of course we do,'' Lily replied.
''Well, I guess that's settled. You are free to go, and please, make sure you put in a good word for our company. We could branch out into the Surya Empire,'' Lily's mother said, giving Lily a forced smile.
''Thanks. I'll go prepare for the flight,'' Lily told the two, turning on her heel and walking away alongside Knuckles, grinning smugly. ''I told you I could convince them.''
''Let me guess, they only agreed because you were invited by Sana and they want to take advantage of that,'' Knuckles said.
''You're absolutely correct,'' Lily replied. ''My parents had been telling me about the importance of connections, so I'm simply doing what they had told me.''
''They certainly taught you well,'' Knuckles commented, a grinning at her.
xXx
Lucas sighed, busy reading a book and trying to relax. Team Neos was on a plane well on their way towards the Surya Empire, and while they had managed to get everything in order, he still had that nagging feeling that something bad might happen. However, it was also possible that he was just a little nervous because he and his friends were literally travelling into a different country for the first time in their lives.
He looked up, noting how the rest of the team were either excited or just trying to keep themselves entertained during the flight. Warren and Makoto were playing a video game on the portable console Warren brought along; Touka, Lily, Minami, Amy and Silver were excitedly talking about seeing Sana and Blaze again, with Touka mostly listening to their conversation while looking out of the window, watching the landscape below; Knuckles and Tails were having a heated game of UNO; and Shadow was reading a book while trying to ignore Sonic who was pacing around the aisle the moment they were told that they could unbuckle. Despite the fact that Sonic had assured him that he was fine being on an 11-hour flight, it was obvious that the hedgehog would've preferred to run across the ocean rather than sit still for so long. He did join Tails and Knuckles for a few rounds of UNO, but then left after Knuckles won one too many of those rounds and started teasing Sonic about his loss, with the hedgehog becoming restless once again.
''Hmmm…''
Shadow's ears twitched as he heard Sonic humming, his rival having plopped himself down in the seat right next to him and tilting his head in such way that he could also read the book Shadow was reading. Shadow decided to ignore this and flipped the page, only to hear a disappointed sigh coming from his side, figuring that Sonic probably didn't read the page to the end. It didn't really make sense to Shadow that Sonic would just start reading the book while he was 1/3rd into it, but he decided to continue as if nothing happened. Another swift flip of the page, and he caught Sonic pouting, but not saying anything. Realizing that he wasn't getting his moment of peace, Shadow placed the book on the armrest between the two seats. Sonic gave Shadow a happy look, smiling at him.
''You know, if you really wanted to read the book, you could've just asked me,'' Shadow told Sonic in a deadpan tone, holding the right side of the book.
''I didn't want to bother you, Shads. I had figured I could read it in a stealthy way,'' Sonic replied, holding the left side of the book.
''Stealth isn't your forte, Sonic,'' Shadow told him in a matter-of-fact tone, with Sonic giving him a sheepish look.
''Heh…'' He then turned to the book, reading the page. Shadow decided to no longer pursue the issue, focusing on the novel he had been reading. It was only a minute or so later that Shadow then felt Sonic leaning against his shoulder, making himself quite comfortable in his seat and still sporting that goofy smile on his expression. Shadow couldn't help but smile a little, realizing that Sonic had finally calmed down.
Lucas also smiled when he saw this, turning back to his own book, but he kept thinking back to his conversation with Sana and Blaze, having called them to confirm that they would be coming. Sana had told him that she and Blaze were investigating another pirate raid and asked him whether Team Neos would join the two during their investigation, something Lucas agreed to, as he doubted any of his teammates would just ignore any opportunity for an adventure. Since they would be arriving in Karuna at evening, they would be leaving to investigate the pirate raid the next day, mainly because Blaze didn't want to waste more time as she feared that the pirates would be moving onto another target.
Lucas snorted in amusement. I guess our next adventure is basically going to be Sonic Rush and Sonic Rush Adventure. I wonder where that will go.
xXx
Fortunately, their flight to Karuna went without any issues and once they arrived at the airport, Sonic immediately wanted to leave for a run, only to get stopped when two cars that Sana and Blaze had sent drove up to them, with the drivers telling them that they would be driven to the Sun Palace, much to Sonic's dismay. He did relent after he was reminded that he doesn't know the way to the Sun Palace and sat together with Lucas, Tails, Makoto and Silver in one car, while Lily, Knuckles, Minami, Amy, Touka and Shadow sat in the other car. The drive itself was filled with people trying to get a good view of Karuna, as it turned out that they wouldn't be driving through the city due to the Sun Palace being built on a hill next to the ocean rather than being within the city. Once they had arrived, they were greeted by Sana and Blaze right at the gate.
''Hey, Sana, Blaze! It's nice too see you again!'' Lucas greeted the two, followed by the rest of the group.
''It's nice to see you all as well,'' Sana said, her and Blaze exchanging their greetings with the group, then motioning to them to follow the two inside the palace. ''I hope you aren't too tired from the flight. You can also leave your luggage in the lobby, I'll ask someone to bring it to your rooms.''
''We're fine, thanks,'' Minami said, no one in the group noticing Sonic's annoyed look as he itched to just leave and go for a run.
''You had told us that you've been having trouble with pirate raids. How bad is it?'' Silver asked.
''The situation is manageable, but we've gotten reports of robotic pirates raiding ships. Sana and I had realized that we might ask you for aid, since you would be very experienced in destroying robots,'' Blaze answered, with the group chuckling. Blaze gave the group a serious look. ''I mean it. These pirates have managed to destroy several of our patrol ships, so they shouldn't be underestimated.''
''However, I think we can talk about that later on. I'm sure that you're all hungry,'' Sana interrupted. ''My parents have actually requested to have dinner with you, because they were curious about your adventures.''
''You have told your parents about our adventures?'' Lily asked.
''Well, I kinda had to when I told them I'd be inviting you over, as well as me learning how to use Chaos Surge,'' Sana replied. ''Fortunately, they are more interested in hearing in detail how you have defeated Chaos rather than getting upset about it. They actually got the impression of you having a similar status to Blaze, being the protectors of Neos City.''
''Well, they wouldn't be wrong about that, but different than Blaze, we don't exactly have the approval of the government,'' Amy said.
''We decided to not bring up that particular issue,'' Blaze said. ''I'm glad that ARMS isn't giving you any trouble anymore.''
''You're not the only one who is relieved about that,'' Touka said. On their way to the dining room, they came across two people who were waiting for them, the group immediately realizing that they were the Emperor and the Empress, Sana's parents. Lucas was the first to bow his head in respect.
''Greetings, your Majesty,'' he said, with the rest following suit with the formal greeting.
''We're glad to finally meet Sana's friends. I hope you had a safe trip,'' Anisa Jai, Sana's mother said.
''Don't worry about formalities. Clearly, you're treating Sana and Blaze as your equals,'' Rahul Jai, Sana's father added.
''Uh, okay,'' Lucas replied, feeling a sense of relief.
''This is just to avoid any awkwardness,'' Blaze whispered to the rest of the group as they walked into the dining room. ''There were some changes after Sana and I had returned from our trip in Neos City.''
The group got seated, with the imperial family being obviously at the head of the table, still feeling a little awkward, but the atmosphere soon relaxed as they had started dinner and conversations had started.
''I have to say, I was pleasantly surprised to hear that Sana and Blaze had managed to find a whole group of friends after such a short time spent in Neos City,'' Anisa said, addressing the group. ''You're calling yourselves Team Neos, right?''
''Yeah, we are,'' Lucas answered.
''I assume you're the leader or…'' Anisa trailed off, quickly adding, ''I have noticed that you're the one speaking for the whole group.''
''He is, and you can bet that he's a great leader,'' Sonic, who was sitting next to Lucas, suddenly said. Lucas was slightly flustered by the high praise, but simply smiled in response.
''Well, a group that protects Neos City has to have a great leader. Perhaps you could tell us more about your adventures,'' Rahul said. ''Sana and Blaze had told us about an attack from a water monster that left Neos City flooded.''
''That's Chaos,'' Lily suddenly said. ''Honestly, it's a bit of a long story.''
As Lily launched into describing the battle, she was joined by Knuckles, Minami and Amy, while Anisa continued to question Lucas, Warren and Tails about their family and school life.
''That is an interesting system,'' Anisa said as Warren finished describing the school system in Starpoint Area. ''We don't use AR Fields like this here. But, that's to be expected, as Starpoint Area is the center of AR technology.''
Meanwhile, Sana and Blaze were discussing their plans for tomorrow with Makoto, Silver, Touka, Shadow and Sonic. Blaze sat upright in her chair. ''We would have to get up early to meet up with Marine at the private dock. It is about 15 minutes away by foot though, but fortunately, all of the preparations were done.''
''You had told us that you wanted to leave earlier, but decided to wait for us to arrive,'' Silver said. Blaze nodded.
''As for the trip itself, we might end up being out there for a couple of days,'' Blaze continued. ''Despite the sightings, it won't be easy to track down the pirate ships.''
''Do you have anything in mind in regards to where exactly we'll be going?'' Makoto asked. Sana tapped on her AR Visor and after looking through the holographic screen, she switched it to a map and placed it on the free space on the table for everyone to see.
''The sightings were here, here and here,'' she pointed at several parts on the map, leaving red dots on the blue screen surrounded by green shapes representing the islands. She then encircled the area with a red line. ''Basically, this is a hotspot for pirates due to many trade ships passing through, delivering food, water and other necessities to the various islands. Our plan is to act as a bait to lure them out into a direct confrontation. Blaze and I had already tried this before, but during our last trip, our ship got damaged during the battle.''
''This time you'll have a lot more firepower, though,'' Sonic said, fist-pumping. Sana nodded.
''I really hope none of you will get seasick,'' she said. Suddenly, the table went silent, with everyone on Team Neos giving Sonic a pointed look, while Sana and Blaze remained surprised by the reaction.
''Why are you all looking at me? I don't get seasick,'' Sonic said, feeling rather confused.
''Perhaps, but you don't exactly have the best relationship with areas of water that are deeper than your ankles,'' Shadow pointed out. Sonic just waved him off casually.
''Nah, I'll be fine. We'll be on the ship, won't we? There's nothing I have to fear,'' Sonic replied in a confident tone.
''I guess we'll see,'' Lucas said, joining in on the conversation while slightly amused, with Sonic pouting in response.
''In any case, that is the plan for tomorrow,'' Sana concluded, clasping her hands together. ''We might be able to catch them this time. If we do, we would remove one of the greatest threats we currently have.''
''That is really nice dear, but could you please not turn the dining room into a war room?'' Anisa suddenly said, startling her daughter.
''Ah, I'm sorry… I just thought that it would be easier to explain everything now while we're all here,'' Sana explained, a sheepish smile forming on her lips.
''I suppose we could go into the specifics once we're on the ship,'' Blaze said, glancing at Sana. Anisa exhaled sharply, turning to the rest of the group.
''This is how Sana had been behaving since her arrival. She became way more interested in participating in the defense of our empire,'' Anisa explained.
''Well, I am Blaze's partner and the imperial princess. So, it is my duty to defend my homeland,'' Sana said in a determined tone. Blaze glanced at the rest of Team Neos, her expression indicating that this was what she was talking about earlier. Clearly, Sana became quite inspired by her little adventure.
The conversation then continued until Anisa and Rahul decided to retire for the evening, with Sana and Blaze offering to show Team Neos their rooms. Lucas, Sonic, Warren, Tails, Makoto and Silver were sharing one room, while Lily, Knuckles, Minami, Amy, Touka and Shadow shared the other room. After making sure everyone knew their way around and agreeing when they'll be up, the two then left as they still had some last-minute work to do. As for Team Neos, they finally felt the jet lag and general tiredness from their journey catching up to them, immediately agreeing to go to bed, especially since they were supposed to get up early.
Well, everyone except one.
''Sonic, where are you going?'' Tails asked, looking at the hedgehog who was doing some stretches.
''I've been waiting the whole day to go for a run, so I'll do a couple of laps on the palace grounds,'' Sonic explained.
''I don't think it would be a smart idea, especially since we're getting up early,'' Silver pointed out.
''Don't worry, I'll be back in a blink. You can go to sleep,'' Sonic replied.
''Okay, but don't get lost,'' Lucas said, with Sonic just giving him a confident look and leaving for the entrance.
However, on his way there, Sonic ran past a lit room, with the door being slightly ajar. Curious, he glanced inside, only to find Blaze in what appeared to be an office room, reading some papers.
''Hey, Blaze, why are you still up?'' Sonic said, walking inside.
''I could ask you the same question,'' Blaze replied, pointing at the papers. ''I've been reading the reports that arrived today.''
''I thought you'd be fast asleep by now. It's getting late,'' Sonic replied, with Blaze sighing.
''You're sounding like Sana,'' she muttered. ''She was insisting that she would help me out, but when I told her to go to sleep, she told me that I should also go to sleep. Fortunately, I'm almost done with my work.''
''Honestly, I don't envy you nor Sana. You're not only protecting a whole empire, but also have to deal with the paperwork, which sounds really boring,'' Sonic said, tilting his head as he looked at the reports. Blaze smiled tiredly.
''This is all part of my duty. Someone who isn't used to this would obviously find it boring.'' Blaze then got up, gathering the papers. ''Although, I agree that the bureaucratic work is more exhausting than hunting down pirates. Not to mention, this is only a small cog in the wheel in regards to how the empire works. Sana's parents are the ones taking care of the matters inside and outside the empire.''
''I'm glad that I'm not an emperor, or even king. I think I'd go crazy at the mere mention of dealing with political stuff,'' Sonic said, with Blaze placing her hand over her mouth and snorting in amusement.
''I suppose it is for the better,'' Blaze said, tilting her head. ''What about you? Why are you still awake?''
''I actually wanted to go for a run, simply to stretch my legs and get some fresh air,'' Sonic replied, glancing out of the open window. ''Speaking of being right on cue…''
Blaze followed his gaze, taking note of a dark figure standing in the courtyard right below the window. Despite the darkness, her eyes were sharp enough to recognize Shadow standing there and clearly waiting for Sonic. She was surprised when Sonic suddenly leaned over the windowsill, a sense of fear gripping her.
''H-Hey, what are you doing? You'll fall off,'' she said, trembling as she tried to ignore the fact that the office was quite high up and she wasn't exactly comfortable with that fact. However, Sonic ignored her.
''Don't worry, there is a ledge I can walk on,'' Sonic said, leaping over and standing on the ledge while holding onto the windowsill. ''See ya tomorrow, Blaze!''
Blaze felt her heart beating fast as she watched Sonic leaping from the ledge onto another, skillfully navigating his path downwards and meeting up with Shadow. The two then sped off into the darkness, with Blaze stepping away from the window and quickly closing it, trying to calm down her beating heart.
Despite being the Blazing Guardian, able to wield and control fire easily and terrorizing any pirate she came across – she still couldn't get over the fact that she had acrophobia, or an intense fear of heights. Even just watching Sonic leap down from this height made her feel terrified, nervous and uncomfortable. Forcing her jelly-like legs to move, she noted to herself that she probably needed some sleep.
I wonder what Shadow was doing outside, though, she thought, only to come to the obvious conclusion. I suppose when Sonic mentioned that he would go for a run, he actually meant a race. That makes sense for him.
xXx
It was about 06:30AM in the following morning when everyone had gathered for breakfast, some still half asleep. Sana laughed, while Blaze tried to hold back her laugh, when Lily mentioned how Minami and Touka were quite hard to wake up, as both were the type of person who liked to sleep in. Shadow decided to turn this into a lesson for Amy of how to wake them up by ripping the blanket away from Touka, causing her to wake up with a start and fall on the floor. Amy decided to do the same with Minami, who luckily caught herself before she could fall off.
''Ugh, I feel like I'm gonna have a bruise from this that will last for days,'' Touka grumbled at breakfast, gaining some looks of sympathy.
''It's your own damn fault for going back to sleep after I woke you up,'' Shadow replied in an irked tone, sipping his coffee.
''You'll get a chance to take a nap while we're on the ship,'' Sana joined in a teasing tone. ''It will take us a while to get to our location.''
''No, thanks. I'm fully awake now,'' Touka replied half-heartedly.
After breakfast, they made their way to the dock, where they had already found people and ARNavs working on the ships that were there. Sana and Blaze led them to a particular one, which Team Neos, or at least Lucas, Warren, Lily, Minami and Makoto in particular, recognized.
''Woah, isn't that the Ocean Tornado?'' Minami turned to Sana and Blaze, who felt quite proud when they saw their friends in awe.
''Yeah! Honestly, it's kind of a-''
''Ahoy, everyone!''
Before Sana could explain anything, they were met by an Irregular ARNav running up towards them and waving at them. The ARNav in question was an anthropomorphic raccoon with orange fur, a white muzzle, a small black nose, and sky blue eyes with one long eyelash on each one. She had brown triangular ears with cream canals on top of her head, brown rings around her rounded tail, and brown and cream-stripe markings around her eyes. On her head, she had two upturned pigtails with brown tips that were held together by yellow scrunchies. For attire, she wore a lime green tube top with a white trim, black capri leggings, tan gloves, white socks, and lime green and orange shoes with gray soles.
''I guess you're the crew Blaze and Sana were talking about. I'm Marine the Raccoon, and I'm the captain of this ship,'' Marine greeted them all. ''I hope you're all excited for the adventure of your lifetime, because there is no one who knows these waters better than myself!''
''I suppose we can talk more when we're on the ship,'' Blaze said. ''Are we ready to set sail?''
''We're all ready! I hope that we'll find those scallywags who dared to damage my ship,'' Marine said, an irked look appearing on her expression. ''Even if they damage got repaired, I still want them to pay for what they have done. I almost had them last time, but unfortunately, we couldn't follow them.'' Marine then beckoned everyone to follow her. ''Com'n everyone! We have some pirates to hunt down!''
After everyone got on the ship, starting their adventure on the high seas.
