I think what really kicked in my whole rants about internet privacy was that time I went to Google and it showed my home city address right there on the bottom, even after I told it not to use my location. I remember a time when that was an unthinkable breach of privacy. Now they were almost flaunting it. It's like "yes, we know where you are, what are you gonna do about it?"
In fact, you log into Google Maps and the first thing it offers you, before anything that could be used as a service like say local events, is a prompt to enter your home and work address. It's insane.
It was always insane, actually, and I know ticking some boxes won't exactly stop all the data collection. But it was almost insulting to me. It really opened my eyes to say "oh, this has gone too far". I've always used Firefox and other free software, but now that everything is turning to shit, I'm accelerating my plans to move away from Google, Microsoft, Meta, and basically everything else.
#cosas mias#even if say Google Maps or any such service accesses your location to show where you are#it should be done while using the program and when you close it all data should be deleted#of course this doesn't happen and they still collect it

i've been using google docs for so long and it's such a comfortable app to write on, not to mention the fact that I can work on the same file on my laptop and phone, so all this AI shit really saddens me and angers me. Like it's either use an app with ads popping up every other second or get your words fed into machines, ain't it? this is what we have come to. it's honestly depressive. i wish capitalism stopped taking the soul and humanity out of everything.
#if anyone can recommend writing apps with good cloud services and preferably without ads popping up every other second#i would really appreciate it#i am going to use wps office but it's maddening but at least they claim 'no data collection or sharing' :))#emorfili.txt#google#wga strike#writing#google docs

It is a truth universally accepted that when critiquing anything regarding AO3/OTW, reactionaries enter the building, and critical thinking and discernment gets locked out.
Nia Ola (on Substack) attempted to raise the alarm about AO3's changes in Terms of Service. This bit in particular:
Nia Ola: "[...]AO3 just updated their terms and conditions so that the only way you can use the site now is that you consent to them taking your data (so, works that you've written, distributed, saved, bookmarked, etc, everything) and give that data and information to the government."
In my time reading Terms and Conditions of Service, websites claiming that they're "duty bound" to provide data uploaded to the site to the govt, depending on jurisdiction, is not a surprise. You will not be informed or told by the site(s) when the government accesses/obtained your information. All on the pretense that it would "interfere with an ongoing investigation".
It isn't dissimilar to the one I've read here for Tumblr. The bit that says (legalese-y) that anything you post on the site can be used as evidence (IIRC) if it becomes "necessary."
But as usual, the AO3 brigade worked like hell to shout them down. Folk focused a lot on how OTW made their TOS "easier" to understand. They claimed Nia Ola was spreading misinformation. Most have gone as far as quibbling with her phrasing, "giving your information to the government" (which they would be doing) based on their personal interpretation of her meaning.
After making the video (they posted on TikTok) private, Nia Ola continued to encourage people to use security measures like VPNs and secure Browsers (they mentioned Firefox; I'm sure others are recommending Tor, Brave, and lesser-known browsers with better security features than Edge or Chrome) and to back up information they didn't want to lose.
Is it an explicit consequence of the election? Probably not. AO3/OTW knows entirely that they're hosting grimy shit on their website and refuse to do anything about it. AO3/OTW, like other websites, are "all-ages". Meaning OTW knows kids as young as 13 (and lets face it, younger) are using AO3. If the US or any other country decides it's politically advantageous to go after them, AO3/OTW is gonna cover their asses and throw you under the bus.
Point-Blank-Period.
That said, I think it would be irresponsible to exclude the election as a factor altogether. Organizations (govt or otherwise) are hang-wringing about rustling conservative feathers, and censoring themselves to avoid the wrath of a Trump Admin.
KOSA and COPPA are still in play. And there's the bill targeting non-profits to consider that's likely (and did) to pass not long after it got shot down.
When Tumblr wanted the favor of the Apple Store and their advertisers, they targeted sex worker blogs and fashion and art bloggers (primarily Black/non-Black). Then, they created an AI flagging system that still doesn't work.
When enough people (and advertisers) made enough noise about the NC-17 content that FanFiction (dot net) hosted on their site (at the height of its popularity, mind you)? They made a choice that allowed the website to survive and eliminate the target on their back. Both were financially motivated, yes, but if it's a choice of annexing content to stay online or getting shuttered?
AO3 will not be an exception. It's already embracing that "Obeying in Advance" phrase y'all are in love with right now.
Nia Ola is not the only one raising the alarm or alarmed by this decision. In your haste to fall on the sword for an organization that does not care about you, try not to make an ass of yourself by dog-piling people with experience regarding the consequences of data collection stemming from policies meant to criminalize sexual content, yeah?
This will continue unless we establish actual policies, education, and protections to prevent the mass surveillance of adult spaces under the pretense of "decency" and "protecting children." Additionally, we must address the ongoing elimination of healthy and safe spaces for children.
Because in our govt's haste to claim their concern for children, the corporations they serve have been demolishing child spaces and media online to save a couple of bucks (Cartoon Network's website comes to mind), and pushing children into adult spaces. And if they're not pushing kids into adult spaces, they're inviting adults into so-called kid spaces to increase their profits (Roblox and its attempts to become anything but a game for children, to say nothing of their monetization of the ideas that kids make).
Until our culture/society overhauls its approach to sex education, divorced from white supremacy, the actual intention of creating spaces that aren't sex-negative and don't prey on uninformed children will probably always exist in short bursts.
That means our politic has to rid itself of the reactionary ilk that (a) demonizes all things sexual and (b) refuses to practice discernment and critical thinking in their so-called sex-positive spaces. Both are why places like AO3 manifest and then ultimately help no one.
And it does not help anyone that reactionary AO3 loyalists will always fight to keep conversations about the site politically and socially stunted and unchanging.
Not all censorship and moderation is or should be sex-negative or censorious to the point of infantilizing. But, if the goal is maintaining free speech and freedom of expression (as we like to think of it vs how the govt allows it), it cannot be to the detriment of itself or for the sake of it (i.e., anti-censorship is not the answer any more than autocratic censorship is).

ok but once again. the small niche userbase needs to be loyal in a way that is profitable or else RadioShackTM goes away anyways in a few years when investors finally get bored of playing hot potato with the money pit. I agree they shouldn't pivot away from their roots and we should be very loud when we don't like the direction of shilling out and copying the Big Stores, but dear god we must understand that they cannot continue to give out capacitors for free
Does anyone remember what happened to Radio Shack?
They started out selling niche electronics supplies. Capacitors and transformers and shit. This was never the most popular thing, but they had an audience, one that they had a real lock on. No one else was doing that, so all the electronics geeks had to go to them, back in the days before online ordering. They branched out into other electronics too, but kept doing the electronic components.
Eventually they realize that they are making more money selling cell phones and remote control cars than they were with those electronic components. After all, everyone needs a cellphone and some electronic toys, but how many people need a multimeter and some resistors?
So they pivoted, and started only selling that stuff. All cellphones, all remote control cars, stop wasting store space on this niche shit.
And then Walmart and Target and Circuit City and Best Buy ate their lunch. Those companies were already running big stores that sold cellphones and remote control cars, and they had more leverage to get lower prices and selling more stuff meant they had more reasons to go in there, and they couldn't compete. Without the niche electronics stuff that had been their core brand, there was no reason to go to their stores. Everything they sold, you could get elsewhere, and almost always for cheaper, and probably you could buy 5 other things you needed while you were there, stuff Radio Shack didn't sell.
And Radio Shack is gone now. They had a small but loyal customer base that they were never going to lose, but they decided to switch to a bigger but more fickle customer base, one that would go somewhere else for convenience or a bargain. Rather than stick with what they were great at (and only they could do), they switched to something they were only okay at... putting them in a bigger pond with a lot of bigger fish who promptly out-competed them.
If Radio Shack had stayed with their core audience, who knows what would have happened? Maybe they wouldn't have made a billion dollars, but maybe they would still be around, still serving that community, still getting by. They may have had a small audience, but they had basically no competition for that audience. But yeah, we only know for sure what would happen if they decided to attempt to go more mainstream: They fail and die. We know for sure because that's what they did.
I don't know why I keep thinking about the story of what happened to Radio Shack. It just keeps feeling relevant for some reason.
#this is me saying: almost no one pays for ad free#i know a lot of tumblr users are BrokeTM#but if you are not broke#please consider paying for this site like you actually want it to keep going#I basically think of it like buying a movie ticket each month#only the movie is like 8 hours a day for the whole month if i want it to be#like they can either sell out or they can sell you a service#but remember the old adage: if something is free then YOU are the product#and tumblr is CLEARLY making good faith attempts to not resort to collecting and selling data#they WANT to sell you a product: their webbed site#instead of selling YOU and your privacy and eyeballs/attention to their investors/advertisers#like buy ad free participate in crab day buy some fuckin shoelaces or a checkmark idc what#but dont pretend that a company that is constantly losing money#is somehow being unreasonable#when they try to make any god damned money#your anticapitalism wont keep the servers running#and even if staff was 100% anticapitalist that wouldn't keep the servers running EITHER#so either buy out the servers and turn tumblr into a crowdfunded fuckin coop or whateverthefuck#or pay them so THEY can deal with running the hellsite moneypit#SORRY for ranting in the tags#i hate the updates as much as yall#but I just. have seen some deeply frustrating attitudes this week

6 Best Data Collection Services for Banking & Financial Services in 2025
In a digitally connected world, banking and financial services deal with large amounts of data every second. From customer information and loan applications to fraud detection and regulatory reports, it isn't easy to collect and process data accurately. Without the right tools and systems, you may struggle to make smart decisions.
You must leverage robust data collection services that use smart technologies like artificial intelligence (AI). These services can help your banks to collect clean, correct, and secure data faster. AI data collection services also reduce mistakes and make the process manageable.
With correct data and ai services, you can run your systems smoothly. You can also follow industry regulations better and avoid risks. You can also prevent fraud, cut down errors, and keep customers happy.
In this blog, you will explore the six best data collection services for banking and financial services in 2025. Each one can help you use data better and make systems easy to use for all the stakeholders.
Performance Center of Excellence (PCoE)
PCoE is like a special team that checks and improves how banks collect and use data. You can gather important information the right way and keep improving the process over time. A PCoE sets rules, watches over the systems, and uses AI to make the job easier and more accurate.
Key features of PCoE that helps BFSI industry
Enhanced data accuracy: It uses strong rules and checks to make sure the data collected is correct and clean.
Continuous improvement: It keeps checking the process and finds ways to make it faster and smarter.
Centralized management: It puts all the data collection work in one system so teams can work better together.
Cost efficiency: It helps cut extra steps and saves money by making data collection smooth.
AI integration: Many PCoEs use AI data collection services to speed things up and remove errors.
Test data management (TDM)
Test Data Management (TDM) is very important for testing your banking software. It creates safe, dummy data that looks like real data. This data is used to test systems before they go live. In BFSI, TDM helps test apps like online banking, payment systems, and fraud detection tools. Without TDM, it’s risky to test using real customer data.
Importance of test data management for BFSI
Data privacy compliance: TDM helps banks follow privacy laws like GDPR by not using real customer data in tests.
Realistic test scenarios: It creates data that acts like real user behavior, so tests are more useful.
Regulatory adherence: TDM supports compliance with financial laws like Payment Card Industry Data Security Standard.
Efficiency boost: TDM tools create and manage test data automatically. It saves your time and resources.
AI-powered testing: With AI, it creates smart test cases to check tricky banking actions.
Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) compliance testing
Accessibility is important in financial services. ADA compliance testing checks if websites, apps, and forms work for people with disabilities. This is important when collecting data like account signups, loan forms, or customer feedback. With the best data collection services, everyone can use your systems.
Key benefits of ADA compliance testing
Increased accessibility: It makes sure all users, including those with visual or hearing challenges, can use banking platforms.
Legal protection: It helps you to avoid fines or lawsuits by following accessibility laws.
Wider customer reach: It allows more people to use the bank’s services.
AI integration for accessibility: AI tools help make systems more user-friendly with speech tools and smart inputs.
Improved user experience: Everyone gets a better, easier experience with clear designs and working features.
CoreCard implementation
CoreCard is a platform that helps your banks process payments and manage credit cards. It collects data like card usage, payments, and customer activity. If you use CoreCard, you can get fast, secure data. It also works well with current banking systems.
Key advantages of CoreCard implementation in BFSI
Real-time data collection: It collects transaction data instantly, helping with faster decisions.
Seamless integration: It works well with most banking tools, so no system clashes happen.
AI data collection services: AI reads transaction trends and flags risks or fraud quickly.
Enhanced security: CoreCard follows strict security steps to protect customer data.
Cost-effectiveness: It lowers costs by automating tasks like tracking payments and fixing errors.
Ground truth data collection
Ground truth data is data you trust to be 100% right. For you, this could be verified customer info, real transaction records, or solid credit histories. This kind of data can train AI, make decisions, and build models.
How ground truth data collection drives efficiency in BFSI
Accurate decision-making: It helps banks make smarter, risk-free choices based on facts.
Regulatory compliance: It makes you follow all regulations with real, valid data.
Improved customer insights: Real data shows what customers do and need.
AI-powered data processing: It uses AI to clean and match data from many sources.
Cost reduction: It cuts manual work by using AI and automation to collect clean data.
Defect analysis and resolution
Sometimes data collection goes wrong. There may be errors, duplication, or missing information. That’s where defect analysis and resolution come in. It finds problems in data and fixes them. This step is critical for banks because bad data can lead to poor decisions or lost money.
Key components of defect analysis in data collection
Automated defect detection: AI tools find errors quickly by scanning data in real time.
Root cause analysis: It shows what caused the issue so that you can fix it at the source.
Timely resolution: It solves problems quickly to keep systems running without delay.
Regulatory compliance: It makes sure data corrections follow the rules.
Improved data quality: Clean data means better reports, decisions, and services.
Conclusion
You have looked at the top data collection services that can help your industry in big ways. In 2025, financial firms like you must look for services that can handle your needs today and grow with you tomorrow. The best data collection services can offer a mix of speed, accuracy, security, and smart features like AI. From ADA testing to CoreCard systems and AI tools, each service plays a unique role. Data and AI services not only make life easier but also help your banks do better business. They protect customer data, follow the rules, save costs, and give useful insights.
By using AI data collection services and strong data and AI services, you can stay ahead of the curve. Looking for data collection tools that fit your BFSI needs? Qualitest offers the best data collection services powered by AI, machine learning, and industry-leading automation. Choose Qualitest to future-proof your BFSI data strategy.

This reminded me of the time I was doing social service for my bachelor's degree.
I'm a biologist. Back then (2007-2008ish, I guess? Don't remember, it's been a while lol) I joined the Ornithology Lab hoping to start my bachelor's thesis early (I did NOT but that's another story lmao). Part of my social service job involved transcribing lots (and I mean LOTS, there were journals dating back to the 80s) of field journals from past students into Excel spreadsheets and then entering the curated info into a special database designed by the Mexican environmental commission (CONABIO) for it to be accessible to other researchers and to add to the national biodiversity repository.
Oh, boy.
The spelling in plenty of those journals was TERRIBLE. And I'm not referring to the questionable spelling of scientific names (which can be truly difficult to memorize and write). I'm talking about the spelling of things like the alpha codes we ornithologists use to abbreviate either the scientific names or the standardized common names in English (HOW DO YOU MISSPELL FOUR / SIX LETTERS???), site identifiers, descriptions, field observations, etc. Heck, there were times when even the names of the observers were spelled differently ON THE SAME PAGE written BY THE SAME PERSON. Had at least one instance where a student regularly spelled his own name wrong and the head of the Laboratory didn't remember which spelling was the correct one, so we had to settle with the most common spelling of that student's name.
Considering all this information was gathered by fellow biology students during field practices (who in all likelihood were making these identifications with the aid of guidebooks and the professors' guidance), one would expect them to be able to write with certain grammatical consistency, as was to be expected of their academic level. But nope.
And yes, I know people can be dyslexic (or have other undiagnosed learning disabilities) and struggle with reading and writing, but some of those journals were written by people who were somewhat bordering on functional illiteracy, which I find truly baffling of people studying for a higher education degree.
Curating all that info was tortuous but I managed. And in the end I completed the mandatory 480 hours (and more!) of the social service necessary for graduation. Good grief, though. Reading OPs post gave me serious war flashbacks 😂
Working on a dataset of roadkill reports. state agency personnel CANNOT spell

#data collection#databases#datasets#fieldwork notes#personal anecdotes#i do miss those days tho#my adhd wasn't nearly as bad as it is right now and working on those datasets was truly stimulating#but sometimes it do be like that#especially when you have to gather information from untrained sources#but it's not the end of the world#oh and by the way#WELL DONE OP#thank you for your service

So there's something I want to say re: intentionally withholding your vote, and I want to do it without coming across as condescending or dismissive.
I've worked as a field organizer in two campaigns, 2010 and 2012, and my job was to help turnout the vote for Democratic candidates up and down the ticket. Technology may have changed, but people are still knocking on doors for specific voters the way they were 12 years ago.
If you say you're not voting/voting 3rd party, the campaign volunteer is supposed to mark that and move on. Their job, in the final month of the election, is to make sure the campaign's supporters have all the information and resources they need to cast a vote.
They aren't collecting data on why you're withholding your vote. They aren't submitting opinion polling results to the campaign. Something like 155 million people voted in the 2020 election, and if you say you're not voting, the campaign is not going to waste a volunteer's time and morale begging you to vote when there are literally millions of other voters to turn out.
Let me repeat that: The campaign does not track why you're not voting. They simply note your vote is not a priority for turnout and move on.
I say this because I see a lot of promotion of non-voting like that's a boycott, when the function is not the same. A boycott is a coordinated mass refusal to engage with an institution—which sounds similar if you see a vote as a good or service to withhold. Unfortunately, it's not.
A vote is a choice you're making as part of a community hiring committee. Your abstention doesn't prevent someone from being hired. It just lowers the threshold for the worst candidate to succeed.
All this to say: In my direct experience as an organizer, abstaining from the vote sends a message. That message is not "You need to try harder to win my vote." It's "Don't waste time on me."
#voteposting 2024#this *is* condescending but#sometimes I need people to ask themselves if they really think joe biden is reading their insta stories
