Promotional image from Nintendo's official Japanese LINE account, advertising the release of Culdcept Revolt for the Nintendo 3DS in 2016.
The image depicts a parody of the game's cover with Kinopio-kun, the LINE account's former green Toad mascot character, dressing up as Allen, the game's protagonist, and the cards being replaced by several drawings depicting mushrooms. Note Kinopio-kun also holding a Boo card from Nintendo's official Mario Hanafuda card set.

Things tloz has not been consistent about that you'd think it would be:
Everything. Buckle up.
The hero being called Link. He's Link in the same way Frisk is the character. The player chooses the name in every SINGLE game up until botw, and that only happened because of the voice acting. It's just shorthand for the link between the player and the game.
The princess being called zelda. Wind waker, she was called Tetra.
The princess being in the game at all (links awakening)
There only being one princess (the hero of either hyrule or legend had two)
There only being one hero (hyrule warriors had three and also linkle)
The princess not being a playable character (hw, aoc, and upcoming EoW. There's also non canon games like cadence and smash bros).
The master sword being in the game (four swords, minish cap, triforce heroes (?), ooa/oos only have it as a linked game post story unlockable, zelda 1,2 and la it was the magical sword).
Ganon being in the game (basically the exact same as the last point minus the 1st 3 games)
Ganon being a bad guy (hyrule warriors and generously, GENEROUSLY aoc, where he's playable as an ally post game).
The master sword being needed to defeat ganon (in botw aoc and totk the master sword is entirely optional, and totally inverts the traditional 'zelda weakens and link deals the final blow').
Link being the main character (upcoming eow which I'm cackling about)
The existence of humanity
Link being in green (abotk made him blue :( and took his hat >:((().
Zelda being in pink (abotk)
Zelda being blonde (she's anything from blonde to brown to ginger)
Link being blonde (tp and lttp (why is he pink?! Zelda is blonde! There's brown haired people! Why neon pink??)
Gerudo having rounded ears (up until abotk)
Nintendo making the games (hw and aoc, cadence lol)
Teen/kid link (totk is the only Link over the age of 19)
Link having a companion (it's pretty evenly split)
Zelda having the companion (aoc and eow)
Link having two companions (hw with basically all of them)
The nature of humanity vs hylians
The story taking place in hyrule (literally so many... La, mm, ooa, oos, technically ww, technically ss, half points for lttp and lbw, tfh)
Just the one triforce (lbw)
Just three separate pieces of the triforce (ww)
Any triforce at all (okay this one is complicated bcz depiction/hand marks/Actual Wish Granting Triforce but hylia alone knows where the triforce was in abotk. I'm counting ooa/oos because opening cutscene. La has zilch and I'm pretty sure mc too.)
Literally any religion has come and gone INCLUDING IRL CHRISTIANITY
Knowledge of the triforce
Knowledge of hylia (it's literally just ss abotk and maaaybe lbw)
The existence of hylia (^^^
The general populace being useless (totk) (that's it)
Link being left handed (in ss and abotk he's right handed. Tp is 50% right handed because they flipped the controls (and world) for the wii).
Link being able to swim at the start of the game (only in the 3d games minus lbw and la remake)
Link succeeding in his quest (botw) (I'm not counting failed hero oot because it's a meta attempt at a working timeline)
At least a tiny bit of time travel (loz 1/2, la, fs, lbw, lttp, botw...)
The hylian shield (only appears in the 3d games! (-la remake and ww and mm))
Link using a bow! (surprisingly 50/50)
Epona!! (literally just oot mm and tp. Botk she's noncanon amiibo and she's in mc but doesn't belong to Link T-T.)
A tutorial (varying subtlety, yes, but there's a difference between the great plateau and a 'press x to open menu :D' prompt five minutes into the game while a knight is trying to kill you (lttp)).
Link having the hero's spirit (ww. I personally disagree but hey)
The hero being a hylian! (totk hero's aspect)
Sleepy boy link (botk he has power naps On Lock)
Link being masc presenting (linkle, hw)
The symbolic elements (3/5/7 combos, lightning/ice/water/fire/wind triforce, boar/owl/dragon/whatever tf)
Things tloz has been consistent about in every game:
Link being a gnc short king (tp is the beefiest he ever got and that was 4'9 male gymnast build at BEST).
Him not telling anyone anything important ever.

Do you have a preferred design for Samus outside of the power suit? Not in a "what's most attractive" sense (seems like a necessary qualifier,) but design-wise, if that clarification makes sense.
Like a lot of people, I really like that Super Metroid promo art.
Tumblr media
We see she's this big, strong, frankly pretty normal woman. Built more like a basketball player or a wrestler or something. Tall, a bit of muscle, and not overtly sexual. You can even imagine she's maybe a little awkward outside of the suit.
I think I've probably said it before, but it really bothered me that, as of Metroid Zero Mission, Nintendo realized that Samus could be a "hotted woman."
youtube
I hate that this exists so much. They were trying so hard to crack the Metroid franchise in Japan that they turn her in to this JAV idol and make sure to focus on three different shots of her butt in the first six seconds. And since then, they never really let go of the idea that Samus has to be this hot anime babe in a shiny catsuit that accentuates all of her curves.
Tumblr media
Like I'm not asking for Samus to be ugly but Zero Suit Samus always feels like a bridge too far for me. They were originally trying to evoke the feeling of, like, Ripley at the end of the first Aliens where she's vulnerable and in her underwear, not as a sexual thing, but as a "nothing will protect her" thing.
And then they turned that one specific look into, I dunno, a super hot Playboy centerfold and that became her defacto depiction from now until the end of time. You know? It's weird.
Like if you search for, I dunno, statues of Ellen Ripley, you don't get a lot of her in her underwear outside of weirdos selling homespun STL files for 3D printers. But Nintendo will gladly sell you a $200 Zero Suit Samus statue.
I like it when Samus looks like a normal lady and not a supermodel with perfect hair and a Marilyn Monroe beauty mark.

Princess Peach's Character
So recently with Peach's portrayal in the movie and the announcement of Princess Peach Showtime a certain brand of individuals have had problems with her portrayal in this year 2023. While you have basic reactionary outrage content farmers in all this, some of which have probably never even picked up a controller in their life like a certain knight obsessed one. There is still a certain amount of people in the Mario fandom that have been taking issue with her recent portrayal, believing anything between "Nintendo is changing Peach" to "Nintendo has ruined Peach's character."
However, I am going to go against this notion and not only point out that her character hasn't been ruined but she has always meant to be this way.
To start off I would like to bring up the fact this not the first time Peach has been depicted this way, looking back to the non canon Super Show and Adventures Comics Peach is depicted very similar manner to what we see in this movie. It could be argued even more so in her comic depiction as she chases down Bowser herself without either of the Bros. She manages to escape the grasp of the Koopalings by outsmarting them and even goes back to rescue Mario in his failed attempt rescue her only finally being put out of commission through magic. This depiction her character has been considered by many fans to be one of her greatest portrayals.
Moving on to the games the Princess has joined in on Adventures as well such as Super Mario Bros. 2 USA yes it did happen, BS Super Mario USA, Super Mario RPG, Super Paper Mario, Super Mario 3D World, while non canon Mario+Rabbids, and Super Princess Peach keep a pin on that one.
However, some people may say they don't care about her being playable and say she is no longer "bubbly like she used to be," and that she is "too masculine" or stealing Daisy's character. This doesn't make sense, Peach and still is bubbly and does stereotypically feminine things and can still do what is considered stereotypically masculine things or act in such manner. In fact she is always a playable character in every sports game since the start, and we can't forget how sports is often seen as a masculine thing. Mario Strikers stands out the most having her depicted as sassy and competitive. Her Mario Party description has her described as brave which is also noteworthy, and we can't forget she is a Princess and by extension a leader. The few people demanding she and Daisy fit into boxes as characters only brings down both characters, and for certain ones I dare say it's misogynistic on how they want these 2 characters to only act in specific stereotypical ways. A character like Peach doesn't have just to act in what is considered a feminine way she can still act in a way that is considered masculine as well, and vice versa for Daisy.
Finally you have those people who just want her to only be the damsel in distress, and just no. Many of us fans were sick of her always being kidnapped in the 2D games, and have been wanting for so long for her to playable character in 2d game again and not just a Macguffin. So with Super Mario Wonder being announced, us fans especially us female gamers, are all glad that we can finally play as not just Peach but Daisy as well in a 2D game once again. Especially after Peachette, and the kinda stale formula of Princess gets kidnapped.
Now with the Princess Peach Showtime on it's way giving us another solo Peach game I would like to rewind the clock to share a little piece of Peach's character that not everyone knows about, which will serve as the nail in the coffin Peach not being changed/ruined. In 2005 with Super Princess Peach being the first solo Peach game by Nintendo, and it being the 20th Anniversary of Mario Miyamoto was interviewed by Nintendo Online Monthly. In this interview Miyamoto said the following about Princess Peach, "she has never seen herself as 'protected' by Mario. Our image of her is one of strength. Many of the developers came from homes where the Mother wears the boots, you know. (laughs) We hope to keep using Peach in different games in the future."

Pro-Curetember Day 7: PreCure Doing Your Favorite Activity!
Tumblr media
Since day 7's prompt is "PreCure doing your favorite activity", I decided to do a quick sketch of Asahina Mirai doing my favorite past-time, other than creating wiki pages in FanonMonsterHunter and drawing: playing Monster Hunter! The image depicts a chibi-fied version of 19-year-old Mirai playing Monster Hunter Generations on the Nintendo 3DS, where her character and Mofurun (wait, how did Moffy get in there?!?) are in the middle of an Egg Delivery Quest. Unfortunately for them, that meant wandering into a Monster's nest to steal the egg. And to make matters worse: the nest they walked into was under the protection of the Primeval Predator: Tigrex - a species of Flying Wyvern known by many a Hunter alike for its brute, physical power and earth-shaking roars. As the artwork depicts, the Primeval Predator didn't like visitors in its domain - and it was very, very angry that Mirai stole one of its eggs. If things weren't as chaotic as they were for the poor Mirai, getting the egg broken in any way, shape, or form (getting attacked by any Monster, jumping from high altitudes, etc.) would force her to restart the quest.
But oh well, I guess. While this is an incredibly out-of-pocket thing to do in the eyes of an outsider, it is but a normal day in the life of a Hunter.
Hope you enjoyed the artwork and my little yap session lol ~ Sap

Metroid Prime 4 Trailer: Analysis
I popped off so hard for this trailer that my sister came in to check on my. Now that I've had two hours or so for everything to sink in, here is my semi-amateur-professional-exhaustive breakdown of the trailer revealed in this morning's Nintendo Direct. You can follow along with the trailer link: www.youtube.com/watch?v=mMAgmdR8jwU
0:03 - First of all, the green text being typed out on a black background to reveal the game? Classic Metroid. A very similar text wipe was used to reveal Metroid Dread three years ago. Giving the year as Cosmic Year 20X9 is, oddly enough, quite important. Official media has only ever given ONE hard date for any of the events during the series: year 20X5 of the Cosmic Calendar, which is the year Samus's first battle against the Metroids took place (as depicted in Metroid 1 and Metroid Zero Mission). Other sources are inconsistent or come from external sources like guidebooks, but now we have a second hard date directly from the trailer (whether this date will make it into the game is another matter, but this is still strong). This means that all of the games between the original and Prime 4 (it will depend on whenever exactly it takes place, but most likely, at minimum, five games: Metroid Prime, Metroid Prime 2: Echoes, Metroid Prime Hunters, Metroid Prime 3: Corruption, Metroid Prime: Federation Force) take place over four years, which is very important to getting a sense of the series' chronology. The game will feature a Galactic Federation Research Facility. This kind of location isn't uncommon in Metroid, but this location may be the jumping off point for the plot. The sound design is already gorgeous- persistent rain periodically interrupted by artillery fire, setting the stage for what we see next.
0:13 - A red and gold gunship flies over a rocky crag during a rainstorm and lands. This Hunter-class gunship was first seen in Metroid Prime 3: Corruption, and is one Samus designed herself. The gunship has been slightly modified since its last appearance in Metroid Prime: Federation Force. The gold is more muted and the red is darker than in its previous appearances, and the ship's hull gleams more than before, taking advantage of the Switch's improved graphical capabilities compared to the Wii and 3DS. In addition, Samus emerges from the top of the gunship, when in the past this was one of Samus's few ships that she entered from the bottom. At any rate, it looks gorgeous.
0:23 - Samus leaps off the ship, somersaults in the air, and makes a three-point landing. Samus's suit is the one she has worn for every Prime game since Echoes, and with the new graphical fidelity, it looks amazing. Minor changes include what looks to my eyes like very slightly smaller shoulders to accommodate movement.
0:28 - The classic appearance fanfare plays as the camera circles her and enters first person mode. This version of the fanfare is a new remix, which is a bit of a surprise, since the Prime games (and Samus Returns) reused the remix from the original Prime for fifteen years! This one is slightly slower and features ominous vocals, fitting the battle-torn landscape the trailer plunges us into next.
0:34 - The Federation Research Facility (I would assume) is covered in beautifully rendered wreckage, with cannons firing and starships hanging in the air. This game is already reminding me of Corruption in particular for that game's look at war and violence.
0:39 - Next, we jump into the combat against the Space Pirates. Samus fires a couple beam shots and a homing missile to kill two enemies. The head's-up display has been slightly revamped from the Prime remaster that came out last year. I'm intrugued by the placement of missiles on the left side of a D-Pad on the left of the user interface, which is reminiscent of the beam switching mechanic from prior games. What other combat options will we have? I can't wait to see. The music that plays here is a new remix of Prime's Space Pirate theme.
0:41 - This could be nothing, but while Samus is fighting the Space Pirate forces, we can see one Pirate standing on the wreckage of a ship, firing at the other Space Pirates. Samus pointedly avoids killing this Pirate, too... what's going on here? Samus's vendetta against the Space Pirate organization is legendary, and we've never seen a Pirate intentionally aid Samus. This could be interesting...
0:45 - transition to a new scene of Samus exploring the war-torn facility. The injured Space Pirate she scans here is similar to ones seen aboard the Orpheon in Prime 1. With this scan, we get a good look at the new Pirate design. The mandibles on this fellow are like the Pirates seen on Aether and the Bermuda System (Echoes and Federation Force), but the large eyes and hunched posture are most similar too, surprisingly, the classic Zebesian Pirates from the 2D games. The degree of mechanical augmentation in these new Pirates seem lower than in previously seen Pirates, with the scan revealing an internal organ and only small combat grafts (compare this with the Zebesian's claw cannons and the Urtragian's worm-like true form).
0:56 - Samus continues on, blasts a hole in the wall, shifts into her classic Morph Ball form, and rolls through a TUBE. The morph ball transformation is snappier and smoother than ever.
1:00 - Samus rolls over the heads of unsuspecting Pirates. Two Pirates appear to be trying to crack open a locked door. This section reminds me of stealthy sections on Norion and the Pirate Homeworld in Corruption.
1:04 - the Pirates successfully blow through the door as Samus rolls through to the other side. Federation personnel fire on them as they do. This is a really cool way to integrate storytelling with gameplay, they really nailed it. I just wish I could get a better look at those Federation guys...
1:06 - A Space Pirate troop pod crashes down, and Samus fights the Pirates that emerge. These Pirates seem differently armored to the injured one we scanned earlier. We also see the charge beam in action (charge beam my beloved)

What do you think that the advertisements in Mario kart indicate for the Mario universe?
I've already talked a little bit about this in my previous post on the lore of the Mario Kart games, but I'd be happy to discuss this specific topic a little more in-depth by going over some highlights of the brands, businesses and sponsors seen throughout the Mario Kart games!
It's likely that given Super Mario Kart was the first tournament, Mario and his friends hadn't amassed enough of a viewership to have sponsors backing the Grand Prix. Mario Kart got its first sponsors in Mario Kart 64 in the form of trackside banners on certain courses.
Most of these sponsors are quite non-specific in what they represent and are associated with a specific character or item, such as Mario Star (Marioro in the Japanese version), Luigi's (Luigip in the Japanese version) or Koopa Air. Mario Star may have originally been a tobacco company, but it appears this has been retconned. Luigi's may have been an oil company, but as of Mario Kart 7 and Mario Kart Tour the sponsor merely represents N64 Luigi Raceway. Koopa Air is likely an airline owned or endorsed by Bowser.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Nintendo is also a sponsor, which is interesting given they also sponsored Mario and Formula 1 in Famicom Grand Prix: F1 Race, as well as the Mario Bros. in Famicom Grand Prix II: 3D Hot Rally before this.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
It seems they were advertising the Famicom through sponsoring Mario. Perhaps it was even a "Famicom Racing Team" of sorts.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Mario can also wear his Mechanic Outfit from Famicom Grand Prix II: 3D Hot Rally in Super Mario Odyssey, where we can see the patches on it feature several brands from the Mario Kart series. This outfit also ends up being depicted in the logo of Mario Motors from Mario Kart 8 onwards. This first appeared in Mario Kart Arcade GP, and it's certainly one of my favourites.
Tumblr media
Mario Motors appears to be a chain of garages that likely builds or repairs vehicles, as we can see two locations in Mario Kart 8's renditions of Wii U Mario Circuit and GCN Yoshi Circuit. In the GCN Yoshi Circuit location several Standard 8 karts and a Yoshi Bike can be seen in the shop. They appear to use Mushroom Piston engines and Fuzzy Battery batteries, also having a pair of fuel pumps outside. Fuzzy Batteries also produce primary (disposable) batteries, as we see in Yoshi's Crafted World.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Of course, Mario can't have all the fun. Wario had to go and make his own company, Wario Motors, which presumably acts as a rival. Wario Motors seemingly built the trucks with Dash Panel ramps on the back that can be seen in courses like Mario Kart 8's rendition of N64 Toad's Turnpike.
Tumblr media
Speaking of Wario, in Mushroom City from Mario Kart: Double Dash!! we can see a store called Wario Pharmacy. Perhaps this is a chain Wario opened after stealing the Megavitamins from Mario in Dr. Mario 64.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Mario Work Gear is another brand from Mario Kart 8 that presumably sells dungarees, gloves, etc. like the ones Mario and Luigi wear. Perhaps this company is even the supplier of the clothing we see Mario and Luigi buy from the various shops throughout the Mario & Luigi series.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
There are so many things to say about all of the sponsors in the Mario Kart games, and I've barely scratched the surface here! I'm sure I'll feature them in many more posts in the future. Thank you for your question!

Imagining My Mind in the Style of "Inside Out"
Before we get started, I thought I would take a moment to mention that the first "Inside Out" movie was released on the same month I graduated back in 2015 (Probably one of the best years of my life next to 2011). With that out of the way, here's how I imagine my own mind in the style of "Inside Out".
CORE EMOTIONS
Joy
Sadness
Anger
Disgust
Fear
Anxiety
Envy
Embarrassment
Boredom/Ennui
Nostalgia
Love
Distraction
Focus
Luck
Intelligent
CONCEPT OF WHAT MY MIND WOULD LOOK LIKE
HEADQUARTERS
Emotion Headquarters = The office where all my emotions can see and hear everything I see and hear.
Belief System
ISLANDS OF PERSONALITY
Goofball Island = Same as Riley's, with a few changes.
Friendship Island = Same as Riley's, with a few changes.
Honesty Island = Same as Riley's, with a few changes.
Family Island = Same as Riley's, with a few changes.
Disability and Sensory Awareness Island = A tame and sensory-friendly land, even though it does come at a cost of some type of risk, but nothing too extreme.
Creativity Island = A land where all my ideas would be processed. Be it OCs I've made or ideas for entertainment that either can happen or could've happened at its respective point in time.
Social Media Island = Same as Riley's, with a few changes.
Video Game Island = It would sort of be like an arcade, except there wouldn't be arcade machines. You could just visit a booth to play video games from the PlayStation and Nintendo 64 era to the current day era where we now have PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X, and Nintendo's upcoming console (releasing either next year).
Movie Island = The place where everyone views movies I see. Either in theaters, or if I want to see a movie on my own time in either 2D or 3D.
Bakery Island = A land filled with recipes and cooked goods. All of which are allergy free. Use caution with this island. Your mouth may start to water.
IMAGINATION LAND
Similar to Riley's interpretation, French Fry Forest would be there. Unlike Riley's interpretation, my take on Imagination Land is filled to the brim with fictional characters from shows, movies, and video games I like. They serve as meet-and-greet characters for photo opportunities and autographs, just like any theme park would (particularly the Disney Parks, the Universal Studios Theme Parks, and Six Flags.). Down below are what my own Imagination Land would be like.
French Fry Forest = Same as Riley's.
Rib Fest = Annual contest event for whoever could eat the most ribs (with your choice of spare and baby back).
Personality Quizzer = Anyone can play personality quizzes, and like in "Ralph Breaks the Internet: Wreck-it Ralph 2", when all the questions have been answered, the character that appears on stage is the result you got.
Imagination Theater = An air theater for reenacting fictional media. The stage would have wiring and harnesses for plays that involve flying, smoke machines for scenes where smoke is required (and can also be used for some rock bands) confetti cannons for either finales or other celebratory means, and of course an open backstage for actors.
Hug Fest = Loosely based on the one seen in the "SpongeBob SquarePants" episode, "Ditchin'". It's just a place where people go hug each other. Meet and greet characters show up on occasion.
Leisure Oasis = A beach similar to Walt Disney World's "Blizzard Beach" and "Typhoon Lagoon" areas. The main beach area is a wave pool, with some passage ways taking you down a lazy river. The area would also have a hotel resort where you can see the view above the water and sand, or if you'd like to stay in your hotel room for indoor entertainment and getting a good night's sleep. The water is in fact safe to swim in. Other areas of Leisure Oasis include water slides, hot tubs, spas, and even a shuffleboard pool game similar to Shuffleboard was depicted in the "Madagascar" video game, but with up to 4 players individually and 2 players for team battles.
The Soar Spot = Ever dreamed of flying? This land allows you to fly either in a wind tunnel, a zero gravity area, and a harness area for zip-lining over a foam pit and a stationary harness area for hanging in front of and/or next to projector screens to make it look like you're flying.
OTHER AREAS
Long Term Memory = Same as Riley's, but with different memories in storage.
The Vault = Like in Riley's mind, the Vault is home to my personal secrets, like my constant obsessions and love for Jenny and Kitty for example.
The Land of Hands = A forest or jungle setting where there's a bunch of arms on the ground and dangling from trees like vines. Only, these hands aren't mean, they're actually friendly. They just want to either shake or hold your hand. And there's a variety of four and five fingered hands (bare and gloved) to touch depending on which paths you take.
Think Tank = Ideas I have get stored in the Think Tank, which later be shipped off to Creativity Island for some form of a test screening.
DreamWorks (no relation to the actual DreamWorks studio, and of course, the DreamWorks Animation studio.) = The studio where dreams come true, just like at Hollywood. It's similar to Dream Productions from Riley's mind.

Almost there, folks: we're within 24 hours from TotK launch for much of the world.
Long post under the cut about Ganondorf thoughts in general.
I got into Legend of Zelda as a very small kiddo, way back when it first showed up in the United States on the NES. The limited lore was fine and good, the graphics were on par with everything else at the time, but it was the music that sucked me right in. I'd pop the cartridge in and launch the game just to listen to the theme during the opening scroll.
Zelda 2 was odd and I mostly ignored it. When A Link to the Past came out on the SNES, the enhanced graphics and music was breathtaking, and the story was vast and engaging. There was lore, and it was perfect for picking apart and analyzing. I cared about Link, the fate of Hyrule, and all the NPCs we met along the way. To this day, the epilogue music to ALLttP and the end credits still never fails to make me cry.
I was in my mid teens when Ocarina of Time came out. Subscribed to Nintendo Power Magazine by then, I was all in on the hype. The power of the N64! The first 3D Zelda game! A beefy and hot adult Link! After the launch of the game was delayed by a year, the excitement to play this game was intense.
It did not disappoint. While A Link to the Past was an excellent adventure, Ocarina of Time presented a version of Hyrule in which I genuinely enjoyed simply spending time. It was beautiful and immersive. It was the first atmospheric digital space that I'd seek out when I wanted to relax and watch the sun rise or set. It was the first of it's kind, and it was no surprise when years later, MMOs began rolling out with gorgeous skyboxes and scenery, as digital places for players to escape to. That was Hyrule for me. I already enjoyed it as a fictional kingdom through prior games (and the cartoon series, lol), but OoT solidified it as a beautiful place that I fell in love with.
So I could see why and how the antagonist of the series wanted lay claim to it so badly; it's a desirable, magnificent environment.
The reveal in A Link to the Past that Ganon--the very same baddie from the first game--was pulling the strings the whole time was pretty cool, as well as all the lore about the Golden Goddesses, the Triforce, Ganon's influence over the Dark World, etc. One of the Seven Maidens even mentioned Ganondorf by name, and briefly talked about Ganon's origin story as the guy who found the Triforce, after so many others had failed and all the wars and bloodshed over this mystical, legendary artifact. It was only a few lines, but it was so interesting, and felt like it was only scratching the surface of a much deeper history.
When Ocarina of Time came out, it was so light and fluffy running around as a child in Kokiri Forest until the Great Deku Tree revealed that he'd been cursed and was going to die. He launched into the history of the creation of Hyrule that aligned to lore from A Link to the Past, with music that harkened back to that game. It was a powerful shot of nostalgia.
Then the antagonist--the villain who would eventually find the Triforce--galloped across the screen, backlit by flames. He was big, he was mean, and he was going to appear centuries later in a new form as Ganon. I sort of knew where this was going because I'd played A Link to the Past, and now we got to see the man himself, when he was still a human.
I was instantly fascinated.
Later in the game, it's revealed that he was also a king, and--in a wild choice by Nintendo--depicted as a very rare cis male within his otherwise all-AFAB population of desert warrior people. A big fan of warrior woman archetypes in general, this was also of interest. The whole sociological implications of the, say, constrained demographics within Gerudo society was also an interesting thought experiment.
Ganondorf was such a cocky, arrogant bastard, though. During his seven-year reign, he seemed to squander Hyrule's bounty. He appeared selfish and unconcerned with his people. Although his unexplored backstory to his people and his connection to the Triforce were interesting, he was canonically a pretty terrible person.
Not long after Ocarina of Time came out, I used to frame Ganondorf as he was presented in the game: arrogant, conniving, and cruel.
This made me nervous for the Gerudo, who were in the challenging position of being expected to follow such a difficult person, who also happened to be their king. By extension, it felt like a setup for extremely toxic dynamics, and that did not sit right with me at all. So the mental fanon shifted to him just being uncaring and indifferent about everyone around him, and his quest for power was so all-consuming that he distanced himself from his people, anyway.
This still wasn’t the kind of person I wanted to give space to in my mind. The Gerudo deserved better, and surely they would take great care to raise their prince well, to help ensure their future king was aligned to their values and mores. His people would naturally care about him, and he would ideally reciprocate that to some degree.
Though he had the capacity for cruelty, he was no longer a fundamentally cruel person in my headcanon. “Conniving” evolved into “political” as required, and only a fraction of his original arrogance remained.
Then Wind Waker happened.
Those established headcanons aligned to the more mature, patient, world-weary version of Ganondorf we saw in Wind Waker; he was like who I'd constructed in my head, but even more so. This version was a man who'd suffered defeat and was imprisoned in a world in which he was forced to live with the consequences of his actions. The Hyrule he sought after--the same Hyrule players like myself fondly remember and loved--was maddeningly just outside of his reach. I found myself empathizing because I too, ached to restore the old world to its former glory.
Then, in his famous monologue at the end of the game, how he had sought out the comforts of Hyrule to escape the harsh environment of his home... How he had the names of his adopted mothers engraved onto his swords... Both revelations hit me hard.
For those of us who who wanted to believe that there was more complexity--and humanity--to Ganondorf than what we saw in Ocarina of Time, the reaction to the glimpses we saw in WW Ganondorf was like:
Tumblr media
So now we are at the eve of Tears of the Kingdom launch. Will this Ganondorf be the most heartless version we’ve seen yet, or will he have complexity?
In Breath of the Wild, Calamity Ganon had killed Urbosa (a Gerudo Chief skilled with lightning, who was likely his distant descendant) in a very nasty reflection of her specific fighting style (sword, shield, and electricity), and then intimidated Gerudo Town through the possession of a Giant Mechanical Lightning Camel named after a woman he had once personally known, who had famously opposed him ages and ages ago, and because of that rebellion is still remembered as a heroine to the Gerudo.
Clearly his relationship with the Gerudo is going to be severely complicated, at best.
I am curious and actually very nervous about how Ganondorf interacts with the Gerudo in Tears of the Kingdom, if he actually does so at all.

Romancing SaGa 2: Revenge of the Seven – Announcement Trailer
youtube
Japanese version
Romancing SaGa 2 remake Romancing SaGa 2: Revenge of the Seven for PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Nintendo Switch, and PC (Steam) on October 24, 2024 worldwide for $49.99.
Overview
■ Story and Setting
It is the Imperial year 1000. Terrifying fiends plague the land and various nations struggle to contend with both this incursion and their own internal conflicts. The people wait in hope for the fulfilment of an ancient legend that foretells the coming of seven great heroes who will save their ravaged kingdoms.
Then, one fated day, Avalon, the capital of the Varennes Empire, is suddenly and brutally attacked. The aggressor is none other than Kzinssie, one of the seven heroes of legend. The people are crushed underfoot and Prince Victor, the brave and noble heir to the imperial throne, is slain.
The citizens of the empire are overcome with despair in the realization that the legends were false, but Victor’s father, Emperor Leon, swears his vengeance on the Seven and their mighty powers.
He uses the fabled “inheritance magic” bestowed by the seeress Orieve to pass his powers on to his other son Gerard, trading his own life for a chance for his heir to strike back.
This act marked the first chapter in a deadly tale of a war fought long ago, an epoch-spanning struggle between the imperial line of Varennes and the Seven Heroes.
■ What is Romancing SaGa 2: Revenge of the Seven?
Tumblr media
Romancing SaGa 2: Revenge of the Seven is a complete 3D remake of the original Romancing SaGa 2, first released in 1993 in Japan.
Keeping the epic story of the wars fought between the imperial line of Varennes and the Seven Heroes of ancient myth, as well as all the unique and ground-breaking mechanics from the SaGa franchise, such as “Glimmers” and “Formations,” Revenge of the Seven reworks the battle and character growth systems and adds in numerous new features, such as difficulty selection, making it easily accessible to both long term fans of the series and complete newcomers.
The expansive world of Romancing SaGa 2, that was originally depicted using pixel graphics, has been fully updated to gorgeous 3D.
All the main characters, such as Leon, Gerard and the Seven Heroes have also been updated, with impressive 3D visuals that keep the distinctive character of the original sprites.

Tumblr media
—You can use Inheritance to move on to the next ruler in the imperial line at a time of your choice. *NON-PUBLIC (However, is not possible to have two emperors abdicate in a row.)
■ Battle
Battle Systems
In battle, the turn order for every ally and enemy is shown on a timeline. Once that character’s turn comes around, they can act immediately. If a character is incapacitated, their life points (LP) are reduced, and they will die if the LP total reaches zero.
—Battles are triggered by touching enemy models.
Tumblr media
—Enemies may be weak against certain weapons or spells, so choose your attacks carefully to gain an advantage in combat.
Abilities and Spells
There are eight weapon types to wield, each opening up different abilities. Fight using swords, greatswords, shortswords, spears, axes, clubs or martial arts. Your mages can also manipulate the powers of six magical disciplines with unique characteristics. Master pyrology, hydrology, aerology, terrology, cosmology and umbrology.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Glimmer and Evasion Systems
If you use an ability with a lightbulb icon in battle, you can sometimes trigger a “glimmer” and learn a new technique. When targeted by an enemy attack, it is also possible to evade and completely avoid taking damage.
—Glimmers trigger more easily when fighting powerful foes.
Tumblr media
—An ability that you have evaded once can be automatically evaded in future as well.
United Attacks
The overdrive gauge will charge up whenever you use a spell or attack an enemy’s weakness. Once this gauge is full, it can be spent to unleash a potent United Attack.
—Once the overdrive gauge is charged to maximum…
Tumblr media
—You can then trigger a mighty United Attack which enhances your character’s abilities and spells!
Formations
By arranging your fighters into formations before a battle, you can enhance them with a variety of advantageous effects and status boosts. Different formations offer different benefits and new ones can be learned depending on the class of the character who becomes the Emperor.
Tumblr media
■ Systems
Free-Form Scenario
In this game, every action the player takes will have a major effect on story progression, from the options they choose to the order they visit locations and the actions they take there. The story will progress whatever you do, but the events that occur can have countless variations. Act as you wish and write your own heroic tale in the history of the empire!
In the intrigue surrounding the succession to the throne of Cumberland, the Emperor’s decision will have a major impact on the kingdom’s survival.
Depending on the player’s choices…
—The succession crisis is solved, and Cumberland comes under the empire’s control.
Tumblr media
—Civil war breaks out and the kingdom is destroyed.
Tumblr media
When assaulting the Canal Fortress that has been occupied by a mysterious group, you can choose to sneak in at night or to ask a vagabond for aid in the infiltration. The way you take the fortress will vary significantly depending on the actions you take.
When attacking the Canal Fortress, you can…
Tumblr media
—Sneak in at night by boat, and major enemy forces lie in wait.
Tumblr media
—Ask a vagabond for aid, and they will find you a safe passage in.
Tumblr media
The player is free to adventure in the different regions on the world map in any order they please. Each region is beset by its own problems and solving these crises allows you to win over the local forces and bring them under your influence. Aim to unite all the lands under your banner as the Emperor of Varennes!
—The player is free to visit regions in any order, but the story can play out very differently depending on the order chosen.
Tumblr media

It is also possible to switch the background music between the original score and a new, fully rearranged version from the options screen.

Couldnt even afford polygons he has to be made of pixels
Tumblr media
[ID: a screencap from Kingdom Hearts: 358/2 Days, depicting Xemnas sitting in the round room. His model is incredibly small and sharp-edged, with harsh lines of his polygons.]
