About Wakana:
Born and raised in Tokyo, but currently lives on campus in the student dorms.
Used to watch her cousin play volleyball when she was in middle school, but didn't start playing until she was in her first year of high school. Her technique isn't as great as it could be, but she's Just A Girl ™️and she's trying her best.
Known for looking aloof or 'harsh' despite her objectively pretty face. Friends and teammates know it's (mostly) really bad resting bitch face, and that she's actually quite expressive when she talks.

Previously had issues dealing with people and avoided social activities because she thought they were a waste of time. Had no real friends all through Elementary and Middle School, and it was only after joining the Girls' Volleyball Club that she realized how deprived she actually was. Her improvement as a player is intrinsically linked to her friendships with these girls, and she'll do the best she can to help them coast to victory.
Fluent in sign language (JSL) and can speak English decently. One of her club senpai has started teaching her French, but wrangling those pesky phonetics is harder than it looks.

About Sakata Hanazaki:
Sakata Hanazaki International School is a K-12 school located in Sakata, Yamagata. Most of the students come from mixed families, are foreigners studying overseas, or are interested in leaving Japan to do the same.
The school itself is moderately sized, but only has a few classes per grade. There are on-campus accommodations for boarding students, but those who can are welcome to commute from home.
The Girls' and Boys' Volleyball Clubs are small, but always at odds with each other, fighting for practice space and resources. Rumour has it that the teams used to be civil with one another until a fight broke out between two girls. During an annual team-building exercise, the then-team captain and her vice captain realized they were both involved with a member of the boys' team. They got into an argument, which turned physical, then violent when one of them slipped on the flight of stairs they were running up and brought at least two other girls down with her. From that day forward, boys were the enemy.
(The current team captains on both sides have since moved on past this and are civil with each other again, but the 2nd and 1st years who were pitted against each other don't know this lol)
The school's name, Sakata Hanazaki, is often shortened by the students and nicknamed 'Sakana' (Fish), because it's shorter, and also the nearby port always makes the air smell fishy.

Ridiculously long post of depression tips
In the words from some of my favorite books, people and games:
"Road to recovery is a long one, but you will make it." - Volition from Disco Elysium

"You can and you will make it." - Someone I know
This will be a ridiculously long post as I'm trying to put everything I know/have learnt over the years on it, so might break it into parts if need be. I'm not a doctor, but fellow survivor and this is what I've found useful. Take what you need from the post. WE GOT THIS!
Basic self care
Crucial. Important. In some cases, life or death.
I will include the obvious tips and some random specific ones.
Sleep
It literally heals your mind when got right. Some things to make it happen:
Go to bed and wake up at the same time. Even if insomnia keeps you awake, stay consistent with the bed times.
Give yourself ridiculous amount of time for the rest. When I'm bad and in recovery, I start prepping for sleep at 8pm. People will not mind, they might be a bit surprised at first, but it's not really their business.
Be firm with yourself about technology before bed. I strive for putting my mobile off for the night, and only look at it AFTER I've had my morning coffee.
Really long walk and some kind of sleepy tea of your choice is an EXCELLENT combo for good rest.
Sleep is also tied to other basic self care, so you need to be doing all of it - but good news, more you do the easier it gets because you get better.
If you fuck up any of these points - say, stay until 3pm on your phone looking at memes - don't beat yourself up (even if that's the natural thing you'll want to do when you're suffering from depression), but don't give in either, thinking that letting yourself KEEP doing this is self care and being merciful on yourself. No. If you fuck up, it is okay and human, but KEEP AT IT. Think of all the process you've made so far despite the fuck up. Keep going. Don't let yourself get discouraged by one or few fuck ups, but make it a top priority to get back on track. You will make it. You deserve a good life and sleep will definitely help.
Food
Making food while depressed is exhausting. You need to choose the ingredients, buy them, then make the food. And your depression might tell you lies, such as what's the point and I don't deserve to eat well. But they are lies! You do deserve it. It is important to do this right to not get into financial ruin, and keep a healthy diet. This is tricky, but you can get there. Some tips:
When you're doing a little better, prepare a LOT of food, and then freeze a lot of it. Little gift for the future self who is struggling.
Keep a lot of easy good snacks around. Include fruit. Eat when hungry.
Speaking of fruit, have some at the house and eat often.
Include protein in your food. However, if you really are struggling and there's nothing but pasta in the house and you're starving, eat the damn pasta.
Accumulate a lot of simple recipes you can make quickly. Tomato pasta with some protein is a good one, especially with some Parmigiano-Reggiano cheese.
Making food can be helpful for depression, although when the worst is on it's very hard. But if you're a little better, it can even be therapeutic to focus on it. Try making something that takes a while, like pizza.
When you're getting even more better ('cause you will!) offering food to others is good for mental health for secret reasons. But if the thought exhausts you as you read this don't worry about this for now.
If you excercise, horde some protein snacks you can eat immediately.
Congratulate yourself for keeping up with this, and every time you've gone through the day with a good healthy diet. It is not easy.
Similarly to sleep, if you stray off course, know this is natural, change is hard, don't beat yourself up, but get back on track. I believe in you.
Exercise
Did someone say "extra fries"? Boomer minion memes aside, this is another really really good thing to do. Get this: You can literally force your body to create endorphins, even when you're mind is in the mud. It also helps with both appetite and sleep, and self-esteem. It also can help you find an outlet, and it helps focus yourself on the present. And it is such a concrete way of fighting an illness which feels so not-concrete. Some tips:
Make plans with people or find a workout buddy. The peer pressure is an excellent way to motivate yourself even if your mind makes bullshit excuses. It may feel intimidating to ask someone but I promise a lot of people want to get into working out but find it hard to motivate themselves too, so you really are also helping them at the same time too. Societies or groups are also good, as long as you go each time.
Think of working out as a fight against your depression. Because it is. Think of your depression being this big Dark Souls boss fight. (gif below for anyone not familiar.) You are struggling, but you are fighting against it, and you're a survivor, and you're badass af for keeping on fighting.

BTW above gif: that's you drinking some estus flask (water) before you tackle again the task of fighting your depression by working out because that is how badass you are.
Do the workout, no matter what your mind tells you.
The kind of workout that raises heart rate is really good.
Long walks are also REALLY good. I don't know what it is about them, but they are magical. You might find cats on the street or cool birds too.
Yoga is also good. The YouTube channel Yoga by Adriene is very good, she's so gentle.
Remember that after any kind of work out congratulate yourself and remember you are a fighter and you've just taken even more steps to battle against this thing, it's not easy and you've done it and you should be beyond proud.
That's it for this post but I will reblog this with more tips in the future so stay tuned folks. I will cover at least things like people, hobbies, therapy, values and goals and staying organized, but I'll add more if I think more.
I've struggled with this for a long time but I can and will make it towards being better and so will you.

The thing that Naomi's parents, and Alex too, didn't realize about Naomi was that she wasn't just lazy or unmotivated- she got off on being the way she was. Every time her parents would scold her for her body odor, her messy room, her laziness, or anything of the sort, Naomi couldn't help but get wet and promptly fucked herself thinking of how much of a disgusting, spoiled, lazy person she was and how she could make it worse. She even had started keeping a journal on ideas for how to make herself and her environment as gross as possible- but she hadnt been able to enact ALL the plans and ideas she thought of while still under the rule and watchful eye of her parents. She giggled to herself and turned on her vibrator as she thought about how she would ruin Alex's life and his living space. God it was so hot to her. And the thing that made her the most horny was forcing others to experience, deal with, and ideally be manipulated into enabling, Naomi's dream of being a neet slob for the rest of her life.
Things went okay for the first few weeks or so with Naomi and Alex living together. Naomi was able and willing to put up a good front of being a decent partner ... Or just decent human being for that matter . . for a while. Alex would go to work all day, Naomi got to stay at home and lie to Alex that she was diligently searching for work and going to interviews while he was gone. In reality, as soon as Alex left the house, Naomi would take off the professional clothes her parents had bought her for when she had job interviews and throw them in the closet with the rest of her 'fancy' clothes which she never actually wore. Underneath the clean and collected outfit were the same old comfy, stained pajamas she always wore. It was a simple combo of some soft loungewear shortie shorts and a ratty, faded t shirt. With her total lack of any activities, let alone exercise, Naomi had been steadily gaining weight, unknown to her until her clothes made it obvious. She felt the shorts and t shirt stretched tight against her skin, and even noticed her tummy popping out the bottom. Most of the weight, so far, had found its way to her growing, fat ass which she sat on all day. Naomi was surprised at first when she noticed her increased size. However, she quickly found herself delighted with the fact that her utter disregard for her own physical fitness, hygiene or health was beginning to show on her body. She happily took on the challenge to try and eat an even more unhealthy and hedonistic diet than she already did. It would be hard to beat, given most of her "meals" were already made up of whatever junk foods she could easily munch on mindlessly as she enjoyed her daily screen time.
Naomi raided Alex's kitchen, bringing multiple deliveries of junk food into the bedroom for her to eat while she laid in bed scrolling mindlessly or gooning. She had been pretty good at cleaning up after herself that first week or so, in order to keep up the facade. But as with everything else in her life, she quickly stopped caring about what Alex thought or maintaining this fake persona. She had realized that she could make him bend to her will and not kick her out even after he realized the truth. She decided on an easier, more enjoyable solution : abuse, threaten, manipulate and dominate Alex to the point he simply accepted his new reality and submitted. And if that didn't work, she was happy to try more... Unconventional measures of ensuring cooperation.
About two and a half weeks in, the false image of Naomi Alex had in his head would disintegrate completely.
it started with Alex noticing that Naomi hadn't taken a shower in quite a while. He refrained from saying anything at first, not wanting to offend her and thinking the issue would take care of itself when she did take a shower again. "People have slumps in energy or mood or motivation, right? She probably just is going thru some depression or something" he thought to himself. But day after day passed by with no hygiene to be heard of. Alex would get into the bed he shared with Naomi desperately try and fall asleep after his long shifts and get some rest. It was of no use, though. He was repeatedly assaulted through the night by Naomi's stench. Wave after wave of various smells, seeming to each come from its own filthy area of her body and creating a noxious mix of odors that he could smell not only while sleeping next to her, but now even just entering a room she was in filled his nose with the delightful blend of sweat, cum, piss, dirty clothes, unwashed ass and pussy, and bad breath.
Naomi would pretend to be asleep as she listened to Alex gag and whisper curse words next to her in bed. She had a goal of making him actually vomit, and brainstormed a way to do that. She had an idea and smiled to herself wickedly. She snuggled close to Alex and proceeded to lift up both her arm so they were laying over her head on the pillow, exposing her hairy armpits. Then, she spread her legs to let the stench of her filthy pussy float up into his nose. Alex tried to push her away from him but she laid there as solid and heavy as a rock. She heard him begin to gag, which had become a common occurrence, but with more force than he usually did from smelling her stench, which was a good sign for Naomi's goal. She positioned herself just so that her armpit was now so close to Alex's face it was almost touching . Naomi heard his stomach gurgle ominously and knew she was close to victory. Finally, Alex forcefully pushed her away from him(which, satisfied with her results, she allowed him to do this time) and clumsily stumbled out of bed quickly to the bathroom to let it out. Hoping this would happen that night, Naomi had even prepared extra measures of slobbiness to make Alex's night even worse. When he got down on his knees to open the lid spew, he was assaulted with the sight and smell of a toilet which Naomi had intentionally kept using all day without flushing it so that even in his body's attempt to purge Naomi's stench and filth by vomiting, he would be met with something even more vile. He has no choice but to ignore it , shoving his head towards the bowl as all his meals from the day came back up. Naomi writhed about in delight seeing what she had done to him. He was sick , huddled over the toilet for at least 25 minutes, which gave Naomi the perfect amount of time to rub her already wet pussy to the sounds of her own boyfriend being revolted and disgusted by her to the point of illness. She couldn't think of anything hotter. She furiously fucked herself until cumming in her panties (and not cleaning it up at all, of course) to add it to the thick buildup already crusted into them in over top the deep, large yellow piss stain that she had also been working on developing.

I want to post more frequently again. I got sick with a flu/COVID combo that turned into a sinus infection and ultimately became a middle ear infection. I haven't ran or swam in about a month. I went silent on socials and in real life as well. I feel like I'm coming out of a hibernation.
I have lost about 5 pounds just by diet alone. So hopefully with diet and exercise I will see some improvements.
Below is more of my antics.
I got an infection of my left middle ear. I was given antibiotics for the past ten days. I went back to the doctor to see about some hearing loss on that left side and she said it would take about 4 weeks for the hearing to come back.
It has taken a tole on my confidence. I pride myself in being a good listener. And now I'm only taking in 75% of what I usually would. I am having to compensate for the loss with assumptions and it's uncomfortable because usually I'm a great conversationalist.
I also haven't been able to socialize like I am used to. I had to stop having my weekly coffee meet ups with my friend where we speak Spanish. Im not swimming either so I'm not doing swims and pancakes with my other friend. I haven't been to church or to the monthly fellowship dinners. I haven't been out with friends or around town in general. This has been my biggest hurdle. It's making me feel insecure and unconfident especially with my social anxiety.
I would also like to make friends at work but I am at a loss for words because I am not all there. It feels weird. I just need to remind myself to do what they hired me to do. The hearing will come back. I've been given three professional opinions on the matter. So I just have to remind myself I can't hear them now but I will later.
I also fear this insecurity will last forever. But I have been to psychosis and back. I worked as a cashier for two years prior. I can do this.

I BEAT my weight loss goal!!!!! I'm really excited about this but I post about it a lot so read more break
I was a fit (for my size) 240 lbs back in my 20s when I worked at blockbuster around 2005. I didn't keep track much back then but I had almost no belly fat and it was the lowest weight I've been in my adult life. Since then I gained and lost with a weight ranging mostly above 260 lbs and as high as 285. During the pandemic quarantine, I got a fitbit and got really vigilant about walking on the treadmill. I lost around 30 lbs in about 9 months (which quickly rebounded and became more like 20-25ish.
The lowest weight I got to with exercise was 255.5 on 8-31-2020. This was me vigorously (HR 150-180) exercising like 5 times a week for 40-60 minutes at a time. I wrote down every weight loss milestone and date that I hit back then, and I've been checking back to the list whenever my weight drops below one of them. My goal was my original pandemic low of 255.5 and I was 254.8 today!! I am extremely glad about this and how well my chosen diet worked for me:
Cut all snacks but meals can be as big as I want - CUT SUGARY DRINKS (except homemade coffee) - no dessert unless it's fruit or greek yogurt - and if I have fast food I only have like one non-terrible entree and maybe like 1 other small thing if I'm particularly hungry. An example of this would be a beef combo burrito and 1 taco from taco bell, or a chicken sandwich from JITB. I'm curious to see how far down my weight will go while maintaining this diet, and also if it will go down much more with additional exercise (during the entire time I lost weight (about 2 months) I have only deliberately exercised 3 times although I've been somewhat active otherwise.
Just as a side note, I don't mind being fat for the most part. I feel like it suits my body type and face better, but this is 100% a health concern for me. I want to breathe easier, be in better aerobic shape so that I don't get winded so easily, be more mobile, and take pressure off my joints as much as possible.
The following are my weight goals and when I hit them this year. I was using this post and updating every time I hit one. My new goal is my low weight from my 20's: 240 lbs!!!

Food:
Oatmeal with fruits, seeds, and yogurt

I'm happy about my progress but also every time I look at myself I see things I dislike. Most of the time I'm okay with them. I realize no one is perfect. But, sometimes the insecurities feel stronger and it's a struggle. Having a trip in a warm place where I have to be in a bathing suit or shorts often just makes me so self-conscious. I'm comparing myself to those I'm traveling with and it's making me feel huge. I know I'm a healthy weight but in my head I'm really big. I wish I had more time to lose weight before the trip. But, I also don't want my insecurities to ruin my trip. I just need to stop comparing and overthinking. Just need to accept this is my body and everyone is different. I don't judge people at the beach, so why do I think everyone will judge me?
Between the self-consciousness and my stomach not feeling great, I find myself eating less than I should. My appetite just isn't really there. I think I choose good options, but it should be a bit more. I just can't bring myself to do it right now. As someone who struggled with restriction when I was younger, i'm mindful of it and don't want to lower it beyond this. I just need to deal with my stressors first.
For positives: I've been really enjoying trying new oatmeal combos and a few new recipes. It makes food a lot more fun and satisfying. I feel like I get less brain fog with more whole foods and fruits/veggies. It's not a perfectly healthy diet but it's an improvement compared to a few months ago.

Can't really sleep so mini rambles about Nick and his evolution for me on his look. I am trying to balance his features well because he looks very much his father with some of his mother features and color.
Dark brown eyes, sometimes he wears contacts and he opts for dark blue, so dark you don't notice they are blue. His scerla is touch red all the time due to irritates in the air and his drug us that shades the eyes and blood by extention blue. It be odd to see him with clear skin, he doesn't take care of his skin, it's not to bad all the time but he'd always have a pimple or two on his forehead and or chin until he gets a bit older. I don't think he really cares tbh. He doesn't look in the mirror often. Eye bags and dark circles from the lack of sleep that's been a consistent issue since he was a child. Sparce facial hair, he can grow a beard but it takes a little long and it's unfortunately genetic.
Thick eyebrows, not styled outside of making sure they don't connect. Clothing wise I style him very casual, borderline very lazily, fortunately for him i have stuck the fashion in early 2000s and late 90s look and he doesn't put alot of effort into cloths. Most are borrowed or second hand from the community shelters. He gravitate towards more skater styles, cargo pants, baggy jeans, big shirts and layers. Only really wears two pairs of dirty white shoes outside of work uniform that are ill fit, usually a bit baggy from weight lost or he mistakenly took someone else's cloths. Work boots from warehouse jobs. Mechanic top that was just found. Has nick on it. Don't know who that nick is though.
Hair! Thick dark hair, as he ages it's thining at the temples but he'll never go bald. It's graying, he has a bit of gray peeking through and he is going to be a thirty something year old with salt n pepper hair. He is not doing great tbh, it's a combo of stress and genetics. He dyes it though when he's feeling like taking care of him self. Technically he would be wearing glasses but cybernetics exist and even if they didn't he wouldn't wear them because he think he looks lame.
He doesn't maintain his cybernetics very well. They need some updates but they aren't effecting him to much. He has some fixes to his vision and his hearing in his right ear, along with some corrections to his brain from getting his head actually cracked open at some point in his early 20s. Has chronic migraines that flair up when he's stressed, orginate from a stress headache and takes a nose dive. He needs a dark room, cold and quiet. Can totally turn off his hearing at will because no. He's five eight, he's average hight for the earth's population of men. Most men don't get taller than five ten with some exceptions of being six feet. With him bring trans though if he never transitioned he'd be considered tall for a women. Most women are about five five and shorter but the height difference isn't to noticeable.
Weight-flucicates from lack of appetite from drug use and his mental health just nose diving. When he's sober and relatively stable, he can pick up weight pretty quickly, has a great appetite, and kinda a shit diet of take out and energy drinks. Really enjoys fried foods and dumplings. Can't ever see him being toned or muscular. He don't exercise unless like sid dragged him along with her to the gym or some yoga class. He out of shape in that regards and hates it. I don't blame him.
Tats and scars! He only has a sleave that stretches over one side of his chest. It's to cover old scars and a recovery thing for him that didn't really work but it's not constant reminder of some shitty days. Wanted to cover up track mark-just uses the other arm. He will get a sleave when he gets clean from iv drug use. He got burned at some point as a tween playing with stuff he shouldn't have been, it's on his on tated arm and bits of his abdomen. Not to bad but it's noticeable to note. Random addition but nick is in his late 20s or early 30s, im saying or because he doesn't actually tell people his age because he'd rather have people assume because they aim lower and he has a bit of insecurities about the fact he's not where he "should" be for his age. This is why when he find out sid is like 24 he responses by gagging. He mentally blocks out her age because if he thinks about it to long it send him because he's really use to dating in his age range or older and feels like he should be more of a leader n sid is not allowing that. He's happy with that but he got expectations of "older" men that he gotta work on a bit.

Training Update - Cum Training and Accountability
I am coming to an end of my fifth cycle for Cum Training of the #pathoferos. I am happy that I lasted this long because in the past I was struggling with motivation to keep going for extended periods of time. This time, I'm staying strong.

life has been pretty eventful lately
baby got his first ear infection (with a cough and cold combo 🥴) which meant he woke up anytime between 10mins-1hr every night for a week straight and I thought I was gonna die at some point
I've successfully somehow weaned him off 2 bottles so he's now only drinking milk in the morning when he wakes up and then at night before bed
I had to cut down on his milk consumption bc apparently his iron is on the lower end and calcium really sucks at iron absorption
which means now he's eating more solids !!! he's getting 3x meals a day and 1-2 snacks in between. I used to think he just wasn't into solids, I guess he's just getting full from milk 🫠
now that he's feeling better, he's eating better, and I DON'T WANT TO JINX IT but he's been sleeping 10-12 hours straight at night for the past 3? 4? nights. usually the 10-12 hours straight would be a fluke and the next day he would be up 1-3 times, but it's been 4 NIGHTS Y'ALL
even when i have to wake up at like 3 am to give him his antibiotics for the ear infection, little bro remains ASLEEP
which is doing wonders for me tbh
the lack of sleep was really making me irritable, sad, weak, etc. but once I started getting sleep again I was back to my regular self

I couldn't imagine taking care of a newborn at the same time. and thinking about "sharing" my love with another baby kind of makes me sad. I KNOW I KNOW I KNOW. the love doesn't get shared, it grows. but I kind of want to cherish this time with our baby before our attention gets divided. they do say the firstborn gets your time, the second gets your experience.

Sometimes it feels weird to be pursuing and caring about fitness and being on this site. I'm making slow and steady progress and feel great and then I'll see a post on here that just baffles me.
I have a lot of dysphoria and while hormones cover a part of helping with that that, they don't cover it all. Taking the small steps to get more physically fit has done wonders for my health and it's a long journey to go on.
It's like people see the worst of fitness and dieting when people do them the wrong and unhealthy way and assume that's the only way to go about it.
When I was dieting for a bit last year it was honestly just cooking a lot of frozen chicken and veggies and wasn't that bad. I ate bread with peanut butter and some cheese before work. A little snack at work and then a meat/veggie combo dinner at home. The hard part was the extra time needed for cooking after work, but I sure wasn't miserable or buying some dumb diet drink or anything like that. It helped me learn to cook honestly. I only stopped because I lost enough and wanted to focus more on building muscles (something I still haven't made as much progress as I'd like now)
I recently discovered this guy Hampton and am starting his workout routine and it feels nice to have a clear progression path. He's extremely positive and I want to reach the point he's at some day. I just feel like fitness is seen as this terrible thing on here sometimes and just why? Unless you're doing something super unhealthy or going to extremes then I don't see the issue.
I want to be able to run for a while and lift myself up and build up endurance. Those won't happen without putting in the effort to get those. I'll never be a proper athlete level of fit, but no reason to not start that long journey all the same. My girlfriend and I want to live a active life when we can live together, fitness and exercise are apart of that.
I'm making slow progress because I'm still figuring out what exercises to focus on but I now have a proper guide so that issue should be solved to.
idk I guess it's discouraging to see post that are so anti exercise when it's been nothing but positive for me.

Sara entered the cramped attic space of her new home. Jim and Pam were already up there, going up while Sara had made sure Grandma Holly had gotten the kids into the car safely and soundly.
Apparently it was a new-ish tradition for Jim and Pam to decorate the house for a Christmas while the children were out. Little hands could often be curious and clumsy, so they avoided potential mishaps that could occur if the kids were nearby while the decorating occurred.
It was definitely a new event for Sara, whose Christmas decorating usually consisted of a fake miniature tree in her bedroom.
She hoisted herself up into the dust filled, musty space, covering her nose in second-natured manner with the newly gifted scarf from Pam’s mom.
Pam looked over and beamed. “You look adorable!!” she tediously walked around the several boxes to get back to the opening in the floor and offered Sara a hand to steady herself. She blushed slightly as she peered around the space, looking at the kitschy and somewhat old looking decorations currently peeking out of the boxes. She figured a lot of them were hand-me-downs.
“I’m not sure if the colors fit me.” Sara replied, never being one too good at taking a compliment.
The scarf was a gorgeous, deep purple, almost like a gemstone, with bits of hot pink thread weaved throughout. Sara had mostly been sticking to oranges, golds and greens recently, but she knew Ms. Beesly meant well. And she really appreciated it.
“It’s cool and funky, like you!” Pam placed a quick peck on her forehead.
“You’re lucky you aren’t having an allergic reaction to the wool.” Jim smirked while gathering several small boxes.
“I thought that was the new aftershave you were trying at the time.” Pam quipped.
Jim looked over at her and simply smiled. “Probably a little bit of both.” he responded. Sara chuckled.
They gathered as many boxes as they could on one trip, entering the small living room that was currently dominated by a slightly oversized Christmas tree. It reminded Sara of the Christmas the office had had a comically large tree.
Pam turned on the combo CD player/radio to a top 40 station, which was currently playing The Ronette’s ‘Frosty the Snowman’. The old speakers made their voices slightly tinny.
Sara sat on the recliner to catch her breath, a tad embarrassed such a small trip had almost winded her. She had recently undergone a lot of changes, including weight, but hated to admit it was due to her recent utter failure to keep her health in check. Most people assumed she was just happily dieting and exercising, not that she’d gone on a tragic sabbatical in Philly to fix what felt so broken at the time.
“Hey, you alright?” she heard a gentle voice say. She looked up, a tad distracted, at Jim. He had a slightly crooked smile planted on his face and arched his brows a tad.
“Oh...” she looked quickly at the fireplace, thumbing one of the tears in the chair’s leather “-yeah. Just a little thirsty.” She admitted.
Jim nodded and walked to the kitchen. Sara began to protest, but he was out of earshot before a word left her mouth.
Pam walked over and ran her hand through Sara’s short blonde hair. She looked up at the other woman and smiled warmly.
“I always wanted to do that.” Pam said, a tad shyly. “Hm?” Sara asked, not quite hearing her.
“When you came back you looked and acted so different. I was afraid I’d never get to touch you again.” Pam said, her gaze lowering. Sara furrowed her brows in concern, grabbing Pam’s hand.
“I felt the same way.” Sara responded. “I was afraid we’d never get back what we had.” She rubbed Pam’s hand gently with her thumb.
Jim came back in, carrying a tall glass of water. Sara felt a tad awkward about their tender moment being interrupted and blushed.
“Here you go.” He passed the glass carefully to Sara’s free hand. She smiled and took a sip. “Thank you.” she mumbled.
“Hey, no problem.” he smiled back, running his hand through Pam’s hair and planting a kiss on the top of her head. “Everything okay in here?”
“Yeah, just reminiscing a bit.” Pam replied, pulling away from the both of them to get back to unpacking the decorations. Jim looked over at Sara, a mildly awkward smile on his face. She smiled back, a tad awkwardly too.
“Come on you two, we don’t have all day.” Pam lightly teased. Sara finished her water and walked over to the large Tupperware container of ornaments. Shiny bulbs and plastic bits could be seen through the translucent material. She looked around for a box of lights, knowing that would most likely be the grieving task.
A couple of hours and the home looked as festive as a three bedroom ranch-style possibly could. Sara looked around and smiled, admiring their collective effort.
The tree looked almost professionally done, but had it’s own charm with the various personal touch ornaments. Sara especially liked the ones the kids had made previously one year.
Pam came behind her and wrapped her arms around her waist, resting her head on Sara’s shoulder.
“Is everything done?” Sara asked quietly. Pam nodded and began swaying slowly. She hummed along to the radio and nuzzled closer to Sara. Jim came up behind them, placing his hand delicately on Pam’s shoulder.
Headlights suddenly beamed through the window. Pam gave one last squeeze before she let go as Jim said “Kids are back!” and jogged the short distance to the front door gleefully.
Before she went to greet everyone, Pam looked at Sara and whispered “I’m really glad you’re here.” She smiled and nodded, replying with a small “Me too.”
