tutor!rafe helps mouthy!reader with math
rafe playfully tossed the textbook at your stomach at the sight of your math test—a c- after two months of practice. the action made you let out a slight, sharp yelp.
"ugh, be serious, i need help—you promised," you whined petulantly, jutting out your bottom lip at the gesture.
he smirked, rolling his eyes. "i don't get you. i've been working my ass off tryna get you to actually learn, and it's like nothin' gets into that pretty head of yours." he tapped your forehead for added effect.
in response, you swatted his hand away. "paws off, rafey," you exclaimed, clicking your tongue, shaking your head, and opening your textbook.
"you're clearly not doing your job right, mr. smarty pants," you mocked, lips curled into a grin he recognized all too well. lord, how unserious you were. yet, unlike the other kids he peer tutored, you weren’t bratty or busy skipping class to join gangs.
he sighed, pulled out his phone, and opened spotify—the one app you forced him to download, wanting to "make a blend" with him, whatever that meant.
"recite the derivative of in(x) or else i’m playing that multiplication song. full blast."
you raised an eyebrow. “are you serious? we’re not in elementary school anymore.”
"as a heart attack, sweetie pie.”
you whined, racking your brain... but still nothing.
you resorted to simply biting your lip and batting your eyelashes. that had worked with all the other boys, no? but apparently, he'd had his fair share of girls like you and wasn't falling for it.
"ugh, rafe, i don't get it!" you whined, hitting your clenched fists against the pale pink blanket you two sat on.
“well then get it,” he said in a nasally imitation of your own voice.
“jesus, what kind of tutor even are you, cameron?”
“a free one that the school provided. now shut up and actually write something on the damn paper,” he said, grabbing your phone to reduce the distractions—or so he claimed.
eventually, you sighed and realized he wasn’t letting up, so you began to somehow focus. despite all the crap you gave him for “being a terrible tutor,” you were actually starting to understand the material.
but god forbid you admit that to him.

The candlelight flickers for another moment before you extinguish the flame. Sitting back in your chair, you stare at the empty seat opposite yours. The food had long gone cold. Untouched.
“I’m really sorry, Miss, but we’re closing for the night.” Your waitress offers you a small smile. Sympathy, maybe. Pity, more likely.
You nod, standing on legs that feel heavier than before. At the counter, your fingers fumble through your bag, slow and clumsy, like they haven't quite caught up with the realization settling in your chest.
You sign off on the receipt for a bottle of unopened wine they’d packed for you to take home. The food? You tell them to throw it away. You don’t think you could stomach it now.
The walk home is quiet, but the ache in your chest gnaws at you like a dull, relentless hunger. Even as you lock the door to your apartment, the air feels heavier, pressing against your ribs. Breathing doesn’t get any easier.
How many times does this make?
Honestly, too many to count.
It hadn’t always been like this. At first, it was amazing. He’d confessed first, of course, in the middle of a water park of all places. You remember the rush of the moment, the heat of the sun, the way he laughed as he hoisted you onto his shoulders for a game of chicken.
Your friend had shoved you hard, and you should’ve hit the water when you toppled over backwards. But somehow, he’d moved fast enough to catch you instead, arms wrapping around you like you were something precious.
It had felt like a scene straight out of a romance drama, the kind you used to believe in. The sunlight hit his hair at just the right angle, and his grin, that stupid, cheeky grin, was laced with something softer when he looked at you.
That night, you kissed him. That night, you thought you’d finally found something real.
Now, standing alone in your apartment, the silence is deafening.
The unopened bottle of wine sits on the counter, still in its paper bag. You don’t bother putting it away.
It was supposed to be a celebration.
You toe off your shoes and set your bag down with practiced ease, like it’s just another night, because it is, isn’t it? Just another night of empty seats, cold food, and making excuses for the man who isn’t here.
You know why he didn’t show. You’ve always known.
Cole isn’t just yours. He never has been. He belongs to the city, to the people who call for him when things go wrong. He’s a hero first, your boyfriend second. Maybe even third or fourth, depending on the day.
And you get it. You really do.
But knowing doesn’t make it any easier.
You sink onto the couch, phone still in hand, the last message between you both staring back at you. I swear I’ll make it this time. Just wait for me.
You did.
And like every time before, you sat there, watching the candle burn down in the restaurant you’d made a reservation for months ago, knowing deep in your bones that waiting for him never really changed anything.
You should be upset. You should cry, scream, something. Anything to rid this pressure on your chest. But all you feel is tired.
So you do what you always do. You switch off your phone, lean back against the cushions, and let the quiet settle in.
Then, a buzz.
Your fingers twitch as you pick up the phone, thumb swiping over the screen. Something flickers in your chest, an emotion resembling hope.
And like every other time, it’s just a spam message.
You exhale, pressing your lips together, but the disappointment still lingers, bitter and familiar.
Your finger hovers over his name. Just one tap. That’s all it would take to reach out. To remind him. To ask why.
And like always, when you finally do, the line is dead.
A dry laugh falls from your lips. It’s hollow, brittle. What did you expect?
Instead, your thumb drags over the screen, opening your photo gallery. You scroll, past months, past years. The change is so gradual, so quiet, that you almost don’t notice it at first.
The selfies, the photo booth downloads, the snapshots of stolen moments…Slowly, they dwindle. They’re replaced by pictures of food, of places you meant to tell him about, of things you wanted to share but never got the chance to. And then, eventually…
Nothing.
Just empty months. Blank spaces where something should have been.
On some days, it’s easy to let it go. To remind yourself that he has responsibilities more important than you could ever imagine, that he’s not just yours to keep. But not tonight.
Not after countless promises, each one made with the kind of conviction that used to make you believe him. Not after he swore that he wouldn’t miss tonight. That this time would be different.
And yet, you sat there in the restaurant for well over three hours, still holding out hope.
Hope.
The word alone makes something curdle in your chest.
You let your phone fall onto the couch beside you, staring at the ceiling. You can’t even bring yourself to feel angry anymore. That’s the worst part. Anger meant you still had something to fight for. But this? This is just exhaustion.
Because deep down, you already know how this ends.
You’ve spent so long telling yourself that of course he loves you, of course he wants to be here. But what does it matter if, at the end of the day, you’re still alone?
The realization creeps in quietly, and it dawns on you that you’ve had the answer for a while now.
You don’t want to do this anymore.
Not because you don’t love him. God, you do.
But because love shouldn’t feel like waiting at a table for someone who never shows up.
Drawing a short breath, you finally type a message and send it.

Bridget sat bored in class, her head resting on one of her hands as her feet kicked back and forth under the desk. As much as she loved Merlin’s classes, they tended to drag on when they weren’t doing any sort of practical work. The singular hour that they were in the room seemed to stretch on for days and it didn’t help at all that it was the last lesson before they were free to do as they pleased.
Ella sat next to her, carefully taking notes as Merlin taught at the front of the room, occasionally writing what seemed to be nonsense on the chalkboard. Bridget knew it would be smarter for her to just pay attention now so she wouldn’t have to beg Ella later for her notes but she couldn’t bring herself to focus on the teacher for more than a few moments at a time, all the information he was spouting going in through one ear and out the other.
It was honestly exhausting just sitting there. Bridget was ready to go up to her dorm and take a nap until dinner time then maybe make some sort of sweet treat afterwards that she could share around. She didn’t know what she would make but she knew she was itching to stand in front of her homemade mini-kitchen and get back to what she loved doing.
Letting her eyes dance around the classroom after they instinctively went back to the clock hanging on one of the walls, seeing how they still had another twenty minutes to go before class was over, Bridget resorted to some sightseeing, attempting to find something that could keep her occupied while she waited for the bell to ring.
Most of the students in the room, like her, seemed to be too bored to comprehend what was happening in front of them which could only be Merlin’s fault as he should’ve known better than to give anyone a theory lesson as their last class on a Friday.
Like most days, Bridget noticed Uliana terrorising some of her classmates with her tentacles, trying to be discreet about it. At her side sat Morgie, which Bridget wasn’t surprised to see. Laughing almost uncontrollably at whatever it was that Uliana did, Morgie was always attempting to be a good villain for her. Another thing Bridget wasn’t surprised to see was Hades and Maleficent sat next to one another, their hands interlocked while Maleficent sketched something on some scrap paper and Hades messed around with some sort of fire magic.
What Bridget was however surprised to see was Hook sitting by himself and staring directly at her. Normally he would be the one sitting next to Uliana, if not he would drag Morgie into the seat next to him so he was never by himself. But to see him alone and staring directly at Bridget was a shock, especially when he didn’t look away once he noticed Bridget had caught onto his stare.
Blinking a few times to make sure she wasn’t seeing things, Bridget came face to face with Hook every time she opened her eyes. Not knowing what to do, a shy smile made its way onto her face to not seem rude under Hook’s stare.
What Hook did next though threw her for a loop.
A smile of his own crept its way onto Hook’s face, the grin being more of a smirk than anything else. His eyes slowly crept up and down Bridget's frame before sending a wink her way, making a pink hue dust her cheeks as she zapped back around and faced the front of the classroom.
“Are you okay,” Ella asked, noting how Bridget was sitting with her spine straight and a flustered expression on her face. Still taking notes as she waited for an answer, Ella’s eyes ticked up to where Bridget was attempting to glance over her shoulder without getting caught and failing to do so. “Did something happen?”
“Nope,” Bridget quickly said, hands coming together and interlocking. Although Ella wasn’t born to much status like Bridget was, she could still notice when someone’s Princess was showing and that was exactly what was happening here as Bridget gushed to herself. Something regarding a boy had just happened and Ella was going to figure out what and who it was no matter what. “Everything is perfectly fine and normal. No reason to be worried at all.”
“Saying that just makes me more suspicious,” Ella warned, noticing how Bridget tensed up a little before sighing, almost as if her resolve was breaking. With just a little more pressure, Bridget would spill everything to her but it seemed like not much effort would be needed from Ella as Bridget was already undoing herself, fidgeting in her seat as she tried not to look back and giveaway who it was. Stopping for a moment before Ella looked back herself to see who it was, she rested a hand on Bridget’s arm and said, “It’s fine Bridget, you can tell me anything. I’m certainly not one to judge you.”
“You’re right,” Bridget smiled, returning the favour and grabbing onto Ella’s wrist, running a thumb over it. “I just noticed someone staring at me and…” “And you think they’re cute?” Ella finished the sentence for her, one of her eyebrows raising at Bridget as she waited for a response. Thinning her lips together, Bridget nodded her head, the blush that was previously coating her cheeks intensifying. “Okay, who is it?”
“Well…” Bridget trailed off, her eyes flicking backwards before looking back at Ella. With a nod of her head in his direction, the two of them looked back at the same time to see Hook still staring at Bridget, the same smirk still coating his face. His eyes didn’t move from Bridget’s face, solely focused on her and not even acknowledging Ella. Raising his hand that wasn’t occupied with a hook, Hook blew a kiss towards Bridget, a chuckle pouring from his mouth when both Bridget and Ella whipped back around.
“Did he just?” Bridget started, not having to finish her sentence for Ella to understand.
“Yeah,” She nodded, just as surprised as Bridget. This was news to Ella. She would have to do a serious amount of stalking and research before she let that pirate anywhere near her friend but for now, it wouldn’t hurt. “Looks like you won’t have to look too hard for a Castlecoming date.”

“Ethereal Paintings”
21~ Stage one denial☔️
Scaramouche x Reader Smau | Word Count: 1.2k
Pounding thumps on the front door were surprisingly nonstop for the past half an hour. Each 15 knocks were different paced every 5 minutes, as if there has been switching the knocker five times. You were glad the door didn’t allow voices to be heard from the other side, only vibrations directly placed on the door itself.
Many “No ones hommee..e…” and “No knocking plea..see.” were mumbled softly from your mouth.
Dinnertime might’ve been over by now. You couldn't tell with how you’ve been practically living on the floor in the main studio area right between the stairs towards your bedroom, and the front door, none which you had energy to get up and go to.
Luckily the kitchen counter was just several scoots away, set with a mini fridge, water boiler and a microwave.
“Refuse contact…don’t want it.”
You didn’t know when the knocks soon dispersed. But you knew they would be back the next day at the same hour.
illumi already gave up on boosting your mood and rather play with the paint brushes that dried up in your spiritless state.
Your large window wall was half covered by the thin blinds, forbidding the blinding and healthy rays of sunshine from entering anywhere near your already damaged and baggy eyes.
To be completely honest; you have only ever showered every two days or even further till you really needed it. Only because it was way too much work to take care of your needs…And all the way upstairs.
Denial was your resistance, the only way you wanted to live at the moment. And the powerlessness in your body is what the effect was.
Even forgetting those online classes you promised to attend, your mind, body and soul were in disarray.
The only routine you held was the mindless paintings you mass-produced over these weeks, as a non-functioning coping mechanism.
And the routine you did when the sky outside the glass walls were dimming, reach for your blanket and pillow, lay on the sofa bed and stare at the paintings for hours till your eyes shut on its own.
That was only day 2 of being exposed to Scaramouche’s crime against you.
The other days weren’t as end-of-the-world-health-threatening.
☔️☔️☔️☔️
Sharp taps on the black table were the only thing heard in the lonely room. The shaking of a leg bouncing up and down began soon after.
Impatient as he is, the impulsive actions he exhibits weren’t half his show of anxiety.
Four grown men sat on the bed behind him in a row on the edge of his bed. Two sat on the floor, well.., one sat and the other was sprawled across the ground.
For the man Scaramouche, aka. Kabukimono, aka. the man who is curling himself into a ball of nerves, was sitting at his computer screen discarding every single A.I.-produced image he ever held—correcting a mistake he should’ve repressed a whole long ago.
A string of curses leaves his soured lips, his eyebrows furrowing even more than possible. “When did I fucking download these onto google drive?!? You bitch!! Prime fucking ass.”
“PFTT!!”
“When was the last time we ever saw i-give-no-fucks-Scara?”
“Just last year. What are you on Venti..” Albedo kicks the one spread across the floor with his criss-cross legs.
“Green tea crepe—cakes!~” Tighnari wanted to step on Venti’s head rolling across the floor, if only he was closer…
“I made that cake for Ayato but you just HAD to get your grubby hands on it.” Tighnari motioned Albedo to kick him again, or to use Venti as a seat instead of the hard floor.
“Mercy–!!!”
Sounds of constant clicking and idle chatter was keeping the room occupied as the only one working hard was deadly silent. Minus the vulgar curses at the poor computer.
Ayato flipped through pages of the stack of documents he fingered through. He was indeed busy but wouldn’t miss this rare one-in-a-lifetime redemption arc in his favorite drama show.
“Kazuha. What do you think about the health department?” He didn’t look up from the papers as Kazuha answered.
“Hm? I think they can do much better.” Kazuha has been assisting Ayato with some of his work since Ayato thought his ideals and views were quite insightful.
“Very good. But I meant health inspectors. There are ones who come to the boba shop and stay long for the knowledge of our traditional japanese cleaning facilities. And now I have 27 health check placks…”
Kazuha laughed at the ridiculousness at the entirety of it. “Maybe just hang them all up to drive away any other incoming health inspector.”
Ayato hummed at that suggestion in agreeance and scribbled onto the documents to save for later. Kazuha points out more points to add.
Kaveh, the one closest to Scara and helping him, leans back on one hand behind him as he scrolls though his phone mindlessly. “Remember to delete those off your twitter. Hmn now the account has no such purpose…best to get rid of it!”
“I know that!!! Shut up!”
“Hey, I'm trying to help!!”
“What help do you provide if you tell me things I am actively conscious of.” He swivels in his chair and violet eyes burn in unbridled anger and pain at Kaveh directly sitting behind him.
A beat of awkward and tense silence fills the dimly lit room.
“Scaramouche. We know you are panicking in trying to scrape up the pieces of your torn relationship—”
Ayato looks up from his papers and tries to catch his glare that only burned straight through Kaveh who avoided his gaze sweating profusely.
“—but that's why we have all managed time here to help you recuperate. And not once have you asked for help. What else would you rather us do here than try and reach to help you.”
Scaramouche darts his eyes to Ayato at the head of his bed. His teeth clenched together. They all knew Scaramouche had too much pride and ego for him to ask for help. Others have to actively put help in front of him for Scara to take it.
The chair swivels back to the desk, stiff and unmoving like the walls Scaramouche has once again built over and over.
His friends behind him internally sigh, they lost Scara to his obstinate personality once again.
“Then help me in another area.”
As unyielding defines his personality Scara doesn’t like his personal affairs meddled in the hands of others– “WHAT!?”
Those words shook everyone who stared at his back with mouths agape and eyes widened.
“Were the crepe cake poisonous??!? Did Scara-dookie ask for help?!?!” Venti jumped up from the floor in a scramble.
“Say that again. I dare you.”
Despite the usual venom, Scaramouche’s hands rested on either side of his drooped head, hiding any peeping views of his expressions.
“I dare you second.” Tighnari knocked Venti’s head at the thought of him thinking his cake could ever be poison, then turned to Scaramouche.
“You mean what to do with Y/n right? Since you got figured out.” They could see the tiniest of nods from his posture.
“Weelll, since she basically exposed your ass with a 5-foot diagram of every opposing thing you’ve ever done to offend her…..you have the slimmest chance of recovery.”
Scaramouche slammed his chair into the desk with how fast he turned around. The desperation and anguish in his face conquered any trace of fear or hesitance in confronting you.
Albedo smirked in attracting his full attention and determination. “But of course, you have much more chances when you have this much support from your friends.”
With everyone’s smiles on him, Scaramouche has never felt this much supportive feelings of warmth.

Chapter 2, A furry welcome.
Downloading file 301214...
Moriarty, former criminal mastermind, feared by all his peers.. Reduced to a mathematics and statistics professor at University of Cambridge... Moriarty gripped his fists out of pure anger, his knuckles starting to turn white. Him? Teaching young adults?! In a classroom?! The former criminal sighed in annoyance.
It was short lived though as he finally arrived at his new.. Flat. The former criminal got out and was immediately annoyed at how... Mediocre it was. Hell, the sight of the building made his skin crawl. Reluctantly, he was grateful to finally have his own space, no disturbances or anything. Nada. It was better than a cell certainly. Even though his flat was bugged (definitely bugged) but he felt too tired to look for them at the moment. He slumped down into his mediocre couch (not custom made) and sighed... How did it all come to this..?
Then, suddenly, Moriarty heard the sound of a bell come off... Like.. Something was in the flat with him. Moriarty sat up, looking around for the sound and then.. He saw the source: a small tuxedo kitten with its white fur around its paws like mittens walked out from the hall, adorned with a tiny pink collar, meowing as it was stumbling. It then saw Moriarty, making its way to the former criminal with its soft mewls.
Moriarty's mind was reeling.. This.. has to be a joke, right? A kitten?? Moriarty hated cats, especially since they shed a lot. His mind raced with the possibilities of why a kitten was in the flat, confused. However, he was snapped out of it when he felt tiny claws sink into his trousers. The former criminal yelped softly and looked at his left leg which now held the mewling kitten, climbing his trousers. "I- No! Ge-get off!" The criminal pried the kitten away from his trousers successfully, holding her up to his face. "Who sent you?!.. Why are you here?!.." He said with a slight snarl, annoyed and perhaps he was being silly for asking an animal why it was there.
The kitten stared at Moriarty before putting its paw on the former criminal's face and starting to push him away with a meow, seemingly upset. Reluctantly, Moriarty let it go, seeing the kitten land on its feet and strut away like it owned the place. The former criminal groaned, realizing the kitten could just be a simple add on that he forgot to read in the original papers of the flat.. "Bollocks.." He hissed under his breath.
-------
Downloading case log 301214...
It was a few hours before Moriarty had to successfully move into his new flat. Dillon, Moriarty's official caretaker, was taking his job seriously by adopting a tuxedo kitten from an animal shelter as company for the lonely man. The Junior detective was accompanied by his friends in a pet shop, Sherlock and John who both thought this was a bad idea.
"Dillon, seriously??? A kitten? I have a hunch that Moriarty wouldn't appreciate a random guest of a kitten in his flat." Sherlock sighed as he watched Dillon pick up the kitty litter. "Look Sherlock, the kitten is just for his company. Nothing more... I mean, you would feel lonely after... Practically losing everything you worked hard for.. Right?" He said nervously. The good doctor rolled his eyes. "Come on, Dillon. He's a criminal. End of story." He crossed his arms, a frown of his face. "I thought we were done with his ass..."
The Junior detective sighed, knowing his superiors wouldn't understand... Understand how lonely it can be to lose what you worked hard for.
----
Two hours before Moriarty's arrival, Dillon had set up the tuxedo kitten, adorning her in a pink collar, chuckling. "Alright, you pretty thing, try to charm your way into the professor's heart.. Got it?" He smirked at the kitten who just meowed. Dillon's smirked turned to a smile before scratching her behind the ear. "Good girl... Have fun with your new owner." He stood up from the floor and finally, left the flat that awaited for its former criminal resident.

Sugar Punch - Chapter 5

*Warning Adult Content*
Theodore Banks
Every single muscle in my body was aching, making it impossible to not wince every time I sat down.
My workout with Maddox yesterday had left me defeated, so much that when he drove me home last night I went straight to bed and passed out, only when I woke up did, I realize how much pain I was in.
It all felt so crazy now I think about everything that has happened in the last few days since joining the gym.
Even though nothing significant had changed on the outside, I felt like something was happening inside of me, something I wanted to cling onto.
Thinking back to last night, I couldn't believe Maddox drove me home, I wasn't complaining but THE Maddox Zane drove me home, a guy I watched every time he had a fight, until I became somewhat of a fan of his.
It was weird, compared to how dangerous he looked with all those tattoos, he was surprisingly a nice guy, considering the first time I met him I was scared to even talk or even look at him.
Well... I still am scared but being around him last night made me feel just a bit more relaxed around him.
Luckily for me school had finished just as fast as it started, all without any trouble from the football team as I kept my head down and just ate in the library while I worked on my code for a project, I had been working on for a year now.
During lunch I had hacked into the school Wi-Fi and downloaded the famous social media app Instagram, where I decided to peek at Maddox's page, after spending all day thinking about him and why he was being so nice to me.
His page was just as I expected, photos of him training, not a single photo was out of place, not a single selfie body shot and only a few photos with girls and some guys I think were his friends but nothing gave away who he really was.
Everyone who knows the name Maddox Zane knows he came from nothing, his parents weren't present and his mom died when he was young, he practically lived in the gym until he was scouted, the rest is just history.
It was impressive, he did all that without anyone's help, he raised himself and look at him now, he was doing something he loved or I thought he loved, he had always looked at ease during our lessons.
I was almost at the gym and since it was Tuesday, I was taking a class with Rick today and learning self-defence.
Finally, I thought, until I took a moment and really thought about it, Rick, the owner Rick, a big, massive guy was teaching us self-defence.
There was simply no way I could ever get out of Rick's hold, not only was he simply pure beefy muscle but he was tall, I'd be surprised if even Maddox couldn't get out of Rick's grip, he was that large and strong.
Opening the doors to the gym, I saw some familiar people from yesterday, working out as usual, I paid them no mind and kept my head down, clutching my gym bag as I went and signed myself in, putting my name down on the piece of paper for today's lesson.
I was wearing the clothes Maddox had given me and to me shock they fit me, although the T-shirt was a little baggy... but I wasn't complaining, it was free stuff, stuff I couldn't afford on a student salary.
Until I can, I'll have to be careful not to break or rip anything, Maddox probably wants these things back.
I watched as more people came through the doors of the gym and came up to where I stood and signed their names on the paper for the defence lesson today and I couldn't help but grow nervous as everyone looked big, buff and already lethal.
Wasn't this a beginner's lesson?
Just what have I gotten myself into?
"Theo," a deep voice called my name, making me jump and turn around, my heart beating rapidly until I see who it was.
Maddox was with Rick, both dressed in their gym gear as they made their way towards me and the other group of people.
"Hello," I said to him then looked at Rick and smiled at him.
"Glad you could make it," he said before looking at the rest of the group.
"If you're here for defence follow me, I've got a special treat for you all today."
My stomach felt funny as everyone started following behind Rick, noticing that Maddox was walking next to him as I walked behind the group of people, feeling anxious about what's going to happen next.
I've never done something like this before, nobody wanted to even group with me in any sports in school, so why should today be any different?
Was I about to make a fool of myself? Dammit... why was Maddox here too?
Did he also teach defence with Rick?
We all followed Rick and Maddox until we got to a large room with mats all over the floor and some dummies by the side of the wall, I don't know why but it felt hard to breathe the moment people started putting their bags by the door.
"Nice to see you all show up on time for a change," Rick said, grinning as he stood in front of the group, his arms crossed over his chest as he looked at each of us in the eyes.
"We have some newcomers so let's welcome Theo and Claire," he said as my eyes go wide once I realise, he just said my name.
Suddenly everyone started clapping at me and another girl who stood beside me, only realising once everyone turned and smiled at us.
She looked like she was my age, she was cute and petite, but there was no way a girl like her would ever pay attention to me, only guys like Maddox got with girls like her.
"We have a guest today who's going to help out in today's lesson, he doesn't need an introduction as you all should know who he is by now," Rick said as my eyes went to Maddox who rolled his eyes at rick.
"Get into pairs then find a place on the mat," Maddox instructed, making everyone scurry to find a partner.
I watched as everyone found a partner, leaving me stood by myself as the odd one left out and with nobody to group up with.
It felt humiliating, I should be used to this but... it still hurt.
It fucking sucked being left out.
Maddox's eyes met mine then called me over to him with a nod of his head.
"Looks like you're stuck with me."
My stomach did a flip once I stood next to him and he put his hand on my shoulder as everyone found a place to stand on the mat, Maddox was acting like everything was normal as he looked around the room, a satisfied look on his face.
"Today we're going to learn one my favourite, what I like to call 'the bear hug' or what the ladies like to do to me on a Friday night, the rear naked chokehold," he said, making everyone in the room laugh.
As the lesson began, Maddox faced me and helped position my arms and taught me how to get him into a hold and how to avoid breaking my hold on him, even going as far as to teaching me another method by body locking him.
It was weird touching him but the moment he told me to wrap my legs around him I almost died from embarrassment, Maddox was a big guy, his body was fully muscle and I was a stick compared to him, so to hold him down like this made me feel weird.
Once I got the hang of it and it is becoming easier to put my arm around his throat and knock him to the ground to wrap my legs around him to secure my hold on him, making it hard to him to break free, I felt like coming here was starting to become worth it.
Obviously, Maddox was going easy on me, I had no strength in my arms, so he could've easily broken free and kicked my ass if he really wanted to but instead he simply taught me how to do it and the other ways to use the technique.
After a few more techniques, where Rick renamed them all to fit his humour, the lesson was finished and even though I was the one pinning Maddox down, I was starting to feel the burn in my arms and legs.
"Looking good today, Theo, you're a quick learner," Rick said as I went and picked up my bag.
I nervously smiled at him and grabbed my bottle of water from my bag.
"Thank you, I learned a lot," I said truthfully as my eyes went to Maddox as he started cleaning up.
"How's your one on one with Mads, is he giving you a hard time?" Rick grinned out as I shook my head, feeling the heat rise to my cheeks as I saw Maddox from the corner of my eye turn and look at us.
"No he's teaching me a lot too."
This was so embarrassing, he was right there.
Rick laughed out loud and then slapped me hard on the back, making it feel like he just punched me as he stated slapping me on the back, his laugh filling the entire room.
'Ouch.'
With that, I followed Rick and Maddox out as I was the last one to leave because of Rick laughing at me, once they stopped and talked to someone asking them a question I decided to just sneak away and go to the first floor, where the light machines were.
Being around Rick was exhausting and being around Maddox for more than ten minutes made me feel lightheaded and intimidated, especially every time he touched me or when I had to touch him.
I needed to calm down, my heartbeat was still beating out of control, so I found something to try and then sat down and read the instructions on how to use the machine.
Pec press machine...
I felt like an idiot just reading how to use it, I had never used anything like this before or even thought about using something like this, muscle building wasn't exactly something I was interested in but I gave it a try anyways.
Adjusting the weights to something lighter, I sat back down on the bench and then gripped the handles on either side of me and then I pulled them into my chest.
What....the fuck, so heavy... and I only put 20KG on, which didn't seem like a lot but now I'm thinking I should've just picked the lightest one, the 5k.
"Um hi..." I heard a voice making me freeze and turn to my left.
"Are you alright?"
It was the girl from earlier, I think her name was Claire, she was staring at me with worry in her eyes and I didn't need to guess why.
I felt like I was dying pulling this crap, why was it so damn hard to just pull these things?
But most importantly, why was this girl talking to me?
"You should try the 10k, the 20 is a little..."
I felt so lame, not only could I not lift 20k but now someone, a cute girl had seen me at my worst, I am so pathetic I just wanted to crawl into a hole and die.
Maybe I'll just go home.
"Thanks," I nervously said, getting up from the machine.
"I actually was just finishing up so… Bye."
I didn't say anything else as I walked away, not wanting to embarrass myself further as I clenched my bag tightly in my hands and headed for the exit, knowing that there's a bus in thirty minutes but I couldn't stay here any longer without bursting into flames.
So, God-damn lame.
"Theo wait up," I heard a deep voice call me, stopping and turning as I reached the exit door.
Maddox was jogging over to me, holding something in his hands and when he finally reached me, he looked me over with a frown on his face.
"I forgot to give you your diet plan yesterday," he said, handing me the paper as I stared down at it dumbly.
"Oh."
Right... for a moment there I thought he wanted something else.
"Thanks, I'll uh... I'll stick to it," I said smiling nervously as he looked at me, his eyes going from my face to my bag.
I thought he looked like he wanted to say something more but he didn't as he took a step back and nodded to me, his left hand rubbing the back of his neck and his eyes moving from mine.
"I'll see you Friday..."
Is all he said before he walked away, walking to the front desk where there stood girls, waiting for Maddox.
What was that about?
Did I do something wrong?
He looked mad.
I watched him for a moment longer before leaving and walking to my bus stop, each step worse than the next as my whole body felt like it was shaking and aching in pain.
Did I push myself too much?
Why did this hurt so much?
I felt like I was dying.
I just wanted to go home and sleep it off and hope that tomorrow I felt better because for some reason, I felt like I was getting sick...
Dammit, this was just my luck.

If You’re Searching “Divorce Attorney Near Me,” Here’s What I Wish You Knew First

Let’s be real.
If you’re typing “divorce attorney near me” into Google at 2:13am… You’re probably not just curious. You’re hurting. You’re confused. Maybe even angry.
Or maybe you're just tired—so unbelievably tired—of pretending everything is fine when it’s absolutely not.
I’ve seen it all. For 20 years, I’ve helped people in Henry County get through divorce, custody fights, support battles, and that whole storm of emotions that comes with it.
So if you’re reading this right now, here’s what I want you to know:
1. You’re Not Alone
Everyone thinks they’re the only one falling apart.
You’re not. I’ve sat across from teachers, truck drivers, CEOs, stay-at-home parents, ministers, influencers—you name it.
They all walk in thinking their case is too messy. Or that it’s too late to fix it. Spoiler alert: it’s not.
2. Google Can’t Give You Peace
Searching for answers online can help… until it makes everything worse.
“Will I lose my house?” “Can they take my kids?” “Do I have to pay alimony forever?” “What if I don’t have any money to leave?”
That rabbit hole? Been there. Seen it consume people.
That’s why having a real attorney—someone who knows the local courts, the law, and your rights—can actually calm your nerves and clear your path.
3. Local Experience Changes Everything
I’ve practiced in Henry County for two decades. I know how judges think. I know how opposing lawyers operate. And I know how to move a case from chaos to resolution.
This isn’t just about filing papers. It’s about knowing how to protect what’s yours—your kids, your assets, your sanity.
4. It Doesn’t Have to Be a War
Not every divorce ends in a brutal custody battle. Some do—but many don’t.
The goal is never “burn everything down.” It’s “get you out safely with your dignity intact.”
Sometimes that means fighting hard. Other times, it means strategic negotiation. Either way, I’ve got you.
5. You Deserve Better Than DIY Divorce
Can you download a form and try to figure this out solo?
Sure.
Will it protect your rights? Your retirement? Your time with your kids?
Not likely.
I’ve had plenty of people come to me after trying to do it alone—usually when something goes sideways. It ends up costing more to fix what could’ve been handled properly from the start.
6. Your Kids Are Watching
Whether they’re toddlers or teens, your children are picking up on everything.
The tension. The arguments. The silence.
How you handle this moment sets the tone for what comes next. I take that seriously, and I’ll help you navigate custody with calm, clarity, and care.
Here’s the Part Where You Breathe
You’re here. You’re already doing something hard—looking for help.
Now take the next step. Talk to someone who’s done this a thousand times and still treats every case like it’s the most important one.
Because to you—it is.

you know how you're trying to finish a fic but then you get another idea in the middle of writing it. god. i cant write this lmao
yet another genshin impact otome game/dating simulator au, but probably not in the way you're thinking. just fun trope-y things and you don't have to think too hard about it haha
ok so like. you're this normal person in school leading a perfectly normal life, working a normal part-time job and having other normal friends. but if there's one thing odd about you, it's that the good-looking guys around you dislike you for some reason?? it's not like you go around pissing people off as a hobby, so this is quite uncalled for.
in any case, you wonder if you'll ever have a chance at dating. while riding a bus, you sit next to a strange girl immersed in playing games at her phone. when you sneak a peek, she's busy with............. wooing a guy from an otome game? she catches you staring and instead of getting upset with you for peeking, she excitedly asks if you're interested in dating simulators. truthfully, you aren't, but then she rambles about this otome game she's personally coding and she'd like someone as a beta tester to check for flaws. "you're perfect protagonist material! hell, i'm sure you'll clear it in no time!"
so she takes your phone, downloads her game on it, and leaves no room for argument. before she hops off the bus, she sends you a cryptic smile.
when you load the app, the game interface is pink and sparkly, cheesy glitter hearts pasted everywhere. strangely enough, you already have progress in the story ("72% to your happy ending," it says) and the "new game" button won't work? the characters page is locked too, and you don't know who the male leads are. there's already plenty of problems to report about... you shrug it off and close the app. you weren’t that interested anyway.
the next morning on your way to school, someone tugs off your scrunchie and lets your hair loose/ruffles your hair to make it messy. it's childe, the guy that has tormented you since childhood. you went to the same primary school and when he sat behind you in class, he was the type to tug on your hair or fly paper airplanes on your desk. he still hasn't grown out of that habit. “are you trying a new hairstyle, [name]?” he asks, as if he hasn't just ruined it. you chase him off, him laughing all the way until he enters his classroom.
you go to your own, looking too haggard for this early in the morning. your brooding seatmate, xiao, gives you one indifferent look before turning back to his book. he hardly talks to you outside of paired schoolwork, and the kindest thing he's done for you is probably that one time he lent you pencil leads for your mechanical pen when you ran out of them before an exam.
you fiddle with your hair, deciding to fix it in the bathroom. in your way there, you grab your phone from your pocket, having felt it buzz twice.
the notification is from the dating sim.
beyond puzzled, you tap on it. the characters page has two slots unlocked.
AJAX ; CHILDE
title: childhood bully
favorability: 86%
story: has been secretly harboring a crush for the protagonist since he was a kid. has trouble treating them better or doing romantic gestures for them because he thinks it's going to make things awkward.
XIAO ; ALATUS
title: seatmate
favorability: 63%
story: doesn't know how to talk to the protagonist without coming off as intimidating. needs a little push before realizing he has feelings for them.
you blink at the screen, the twinkling sparkles mocking you as your expression morphs into one of horror.
the day progresses in a similar pattern, your phone buzzing each time you interact with the guys you are — well, were — sure hated your guts. albedo, who was once your lab partner in chemistry and the guy you pissed off when you messed up your practical for a pair project and he ended up getting a bad grade as a result, was described as "a fool in love who doesn't know how to appeal to the object of his affections".
itto, the guy who detroit-smashed your face at a round of dodgeball for gym class and gave you a really bad nosebleed, had "done it because a guy was leering at you but his aim is atrociously bad".
kazuha, that one boy in class who kept glaring at you in every opportunity, is "an artist who is fond of drawing the love of his life, and he hasn't realized they know he's staring at them and getting the wrong idea".
scaramouche, your pissy coworker at your part-time job who you were certain not only hated you but hated everyone in general, is "just as bad with people he likes as much as he is with people he dislikes".
ayato, the so-called cold prince of campus you've never talked to, turns out to be "the secret admirer who sometimes slips flowers or snacks in the protagonist's locker".
perhaps the least surprising character is thoma, who is pretty much kind to everyone he meets, but you were sure he was after your friend ayaka, not you.
the game offers you "events to increase your love interests' affection", such as "heart-throbbing locked in a room scenario ♡" or, "bittersweet injured at sports day and princess carry scenario!!" or, "exciting skipping class event with my senpai who loves napping in the infirmary?!?!!!" or, "jealous doki-doki kabedon after school scenario ☆"
in any case, the game is garbage and you are half-convinced you died in the bus after a car crash accident that very first day and this is some weird dream before you go to hell.
...what counts as a happy ending, anyway? what's the point of receiving their affection, and what happens to the others when you choose only one? do you respawn after the bad end? you have to, right? the save/load feature can travel you back in time, so bringing you back from the dead in the "yandere scaramouche" route is possible..... right?
how do you unlock the "true ending" of the main story so this game will finally end, and just who is this last slot in the character page that remains locked even after several months?
