Name: Golden Mushroom
Debut: Mario Party 2
The more I look at this mushroom, the more I choose to view it as cheese. Just nice solid cheddar. But it's not! It's metal or something. Blech! This probably does not seem like a very interesting subject for a post. Maybe you're thinking "what in the New Super Mario Bros. 2 is this", and yeah, that is fair. But look!
See? He wants it. He wants it quite a lot. Doesn't that make YOU want it? It must be pretty good if a little rascal feels entitled to it! And it's on a pedestal. That means it's really good! If you had it, you could do such awesome stuff as put it on a pedestal of your own. And then you could look at it.
Ok I'm gonna be honest! I don't even want it. I don't know what I would do with it. What does it even DO? In Superstar Saga, it restores all HP and BP, so that's pretty great! It's a miracle cure, like famous mid game Dr. Mario Miracle Cure!... But then in Bowser's Inside Story, it was replaced by Star Candy. And in the Bowser's Inside Story REMAKE, it was half-replaced, because instead of Star Candy, Bowser eats Cheesy Chicken. He's going to give himself diarrhea!
Obviously, New Super Mario Bros. 2 is where the Golden Mushroom got a big role, but it's the Gold FLOWER that turns Mario into Gold Mario. What of the Golden Mushroom, then? It gives 50 coins and that's all. Just 50 of them. Not even enough to afford a Life! Some meetings could have been an email, and this mushroom could have been a coin.
The Clown Hat from Odyssey costs 50 coins. That's all this mushroom is worth! A cardboard party hat! And yet, if you go to Super Nintendo World, they expect you to want to beat up Bowser Jr. with bombs, for stealing one mushroom the price of a party hat. It's not worth it, people! Just let the kid buy a funny hat! It's more worthwhile than leaving the mushroom on a pedestal and doing nothing with it!
And while I'm on the topic of underwhelming golden mushrooms, did you know that there was an event featuring the Wonder Flower in Super Mario Run? If you collected it, the wacky effect was that... Gold Goombas would appear, and be locked into a single animation, and function as coins! I don't know what the point of it was. Gold Goombas aren't even in Wonder! They're in NSMB2! Oh... why, I'm so mad! All of these golden mushrooms are mid as hell! If I see one more underwhelming golden mushroom, I'm gonna... I don't even know. I might have to just start biting strangers. And people don't like me when I bite strangers! I hear something now... that better not be another golden mushroom...!

Oh! The Mario Kart one is good :] Yay

Super Smash Bros. Is Not Canon And Is Unreliable For Mario Lore Part 1
So it's fairly common for people to try to use the Super Smash Bros. series for either theory crafting, or to understand the lore of games like Mario. While I have addressed it before this time I want to go more in depth.
So for starters as the characters in Smash Bros. are intended to be toys in the real world. Masahiro Sakurai clarified this in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate Direct 11.1.2018. "In the Super Smash Bros. series the characters are toys in the real world, but they are fighters in the world of the imagination. Returning to the real world is an ongoing theme, in the imagination you can battle impossible combinations of characters." This also further made evident by the introductions to SMB64 and SMBM. This also explains why characters like Ridley and Olimar are not their accurate sizes. But the second reason is the portrayal characters in Smash Bros. especially when reading the descriptions of the trophies. So I'm going to go through the Mario ones. Note I will eventually like examples from other franchises once I address them on my other lore blogs.
Now while not a Trophy Bowser's model in Smash differs from what it is like in game which I talked about in this post. SMBM's Dr. Mario's trophy says "with his dedicated nurse, Princess Peach, at his side, Dr. Mario spends day and night in his laboratory working on new miracle cures. Somehow, he's managed to keep up with all the new viruses that have arisen over the years." Note this one and the next one may seem nitpicky but we'll be addressing more outright contradictions. In the Mario Canon Mario does not spend day and night working on cures for various new viruses. As we know Mario is a plumber and that's he spends day and night working on. SMBM's Coin Trophy says "the Mushroom Kingdom is dotted with these mysterious coins. There seems to be an endless supply hidden in various blocks, and Mario gains an extra life when he manages to collect a hundred of them. No one can confirm whether or not these coins are actually used as the currency of the Mushroom Kingdom, but it's a safe assumption." There is some information while not established at the time it is canonized that specifically the 64sque coins is the Mushroom Kingdom's currency. But these coins aren't the ones found throughout the world. SMBM's Lakitu Trophy says "These airborne menaces used to ride their clouds exclusively as Bowser's henchmen. They typically hover just out of Mario's reach and hurl Spinies with irritating precision. More recently, however, they've been known to take on less evil tasks, such as doing camera work for sports events and even helping Mario on his quests." This is in accurate because not all Lakitus work for Bowser, and the Lakitu Bros and ones that run the sports events don't work for Bowser. I plan to make posts about friendly Lakitus and the Lakitu Bros eventually. Also, in SMBU there is some dialogue that involves Pit as they talk about the Koopalings. "The relationship between Bowser and the Koopalings is a real mystery." This is something that is not a mystery, and the Koopalings have been established to be Bowser's minions for a long time at this point. I have addressed this in a previous post. Continues in Part 2

can I talk about how much I hate dr. luigi
i'm gonna do that
youtube
ok so there's a lot of small things to hate about it. for one, the new music is pretty middling at best. similar level to rx's cough. the old remixed music is worse than rx's renditions.e
second, the title screen. this does not remotely look like a doctor's office. this is a cafe break room. luigi, get back to work and help the fucking patients live. also, way to spoil the viruses being aliens! it was meant to be a cool secret in dr. marios past, but now they just get tractor beamed down every time you boot up the game.
youtube
third, what's with all the rx erasure? it was bad enough with the new music and viruses, and now you take out the awesome virus buster themes?? like I love brain age as much as the next guy but this is not brain age!! your entire engine is built off of rx and yet you spit in its face. disgraceful I says
all that, though, I can accept. there's other minor stuff, like too much green, or luigi not having the head mirror like mario, or the pill on the logo not being red and blue or at least magenta and cyan.
but the most inexcusable, irreparable offense in all of Dr. Luigi.
is the fucking virus designs.
holy SHIT the new viruses look bad. like oh my god how do you fuck these designs up so bad they look horrible. I can't stand looking at them for more than three seconds. even if you use the classic virus design option for the gsme screen, they're still there in the hud. watching.
they look NOTHING like the old cute viruses. they have big, white eyes, oversaturated colors, no inexplicable white gloves and brown shoes, and no consistent shape structure!
as much as I loathe dr. mario world, the one thing it got right was consistent virus design. if they gave any of these new viruses a body and less chibified design, I'd think they've been here since the start of the series!
dr. luigi's viruses look like stereotypical monsters in kids shows. disgraceful.
in conclusion, fuck dr. luigi and play miracle cure.

Game 9: Dr. Mario Miracle Cure Dr. Mario Miracle Cure is perhaps one of the best Dr. Mario games out there, yet it's doomed to be forgotten once the eShop wipes out and that feels like such a shame of what a great game it is. It basically builds on the previous Dr. Luigi game, while still having the competitive play of the other Dr. Mario games before it. While there isn't much story or campaign to make of, the fact that there are several interesting puzzles and mock fights makes up for the lack of significant single player content. While I wouldn't really say this is a robust game, it is better than most Dr. Mario games by having something more than simple standard online play and endless marathon. Really I wish we were able to get more out of the game as Miracle Cure is where the Dr. Mario series should be heading to help differ itself from other match block puzzle games. From the mechanics that help clean up messes you tend to make in this type of play, to the far more defined combo system that this game allows it's players to exploit. It's really cool to see just how far Dr. Mario has become, and I for one would love to see a more puzzle oriented campaign next time they were to make a big budget Dr. Mario game. The fact that they have Dr. Luigi and Mario send out different puzzle types, and with the quick rise and fall of Dr. Mario World Online, I really really want to see the franchise simply expand on everything it does here mixed together with the roaster of the World. I don't think Dr. Mario Miracle Cure is close to what I call a the best puzzle game, but for what it does, the price tag it has, and the amount it builds on. I'd have to say that this is simply the best Dr. Mario experience out there, and a wonderful surprise to boot.

The Viruses from Dr. Mario are a little too small to compete in Super Mario Spikers, but that doesn't mean they don't wanna cause some mischief! Instead, they appear as items, moving around the field when deployed and biting the nearest opponent, inflicting them with an illness. Chill freezes, Fever burns, and Weird shrinks! They also have new mutated forms you can get by charging them up with Coins, which are even more potent!
Drawing these gremlins was pretty fun. Design-wise, they were mainly based off their artwork from Dr. Mario Miracle Cure, but given their pallets from the NES game. Since Fever uses yellow as its secondary color and Weird uses blue, I decided to change Chill's secondary color to red. Now they all match and use each other's colors!
The charged versions were really fun to design too! They're based on actual mutations viruses can undergo, which can be a lot more dangerous. The same applies here, as the Viruses' illnesses get way harder to deal with when charged! They weren't based on any particular virus, moreso just based on basic shapes real viruses are known to take. Sticking these guys' faces on them makes them both funny, and creepy. A good fit I'd say!
I'll end this off and say Fever is definitely my favorite of the three, the posing and face came out really well with him in particular!

the reason why miyamoto doesn’t want dr. mario to operate on him isn’t because mario isn’t a licensed doctor. He is (you can see a degree in the background of Miracle Cure). It’s because surgery just isn’t in his job description.
Mario’s job revolves around examining viruses and developing antibodies and antiviruses for public usage.
He’s not a licensed surgeon, he’s a licensed virologist!

The game opens with a disease called "The Blorbs" spreading across the Mushroom Kingdom. Toads that become infected with the disease inflate like a balloon and roll around uncontrollably. A council meeting is immediately called at Princess Peach's Castle to discuss what can be done about the epidemic. Starlow, a representative of the Star Sprites that watch over the Mushroom Kingdom, also attends. At the meeting, it is discovered that all those affected had previously eaten a "Blorb Mushroom" given to them by a salesman, who is secretly the mad scientist Fawful. Bowser invades the castle attempting to kidnap Princess Peach but is defeated by Mario and expelled from the castle, sending him flying outward.
Bowser finds himself in Dimble Wood, where he is tricked by Fawful into eating a "Vacuum Shroom" that gives him the power to inhale things. Immediately after eating it, Bowser begins mindlessly inhaling everything in sight and goes back to the castle, where he inhales Mario, Luigi, Princess Peach, Starlow, and their friends into his body, the process shrinking all of them to microscopic size. After this, Bowser passes out, and with Peach now gone and the Blorbs disease incapacitating the majority of the Mushroom Kingdom, Fawful proceeds to take over Peach's castle, while his assistant, the boar-like Midbus, takes over Bowser's castle. Navigating Bowser's body, Mario and Luigi manage to revive him, and he is revealed to have no memory of his mindless rampage and consequently does not know the Mario brothers are inside his body. Bowser only communicates with Starlow, who nicknames herself "Chippy" to avoid suspicion. Bowser begins tracking down Fawful in an attempt to reclaim his castle with the assistance of the Mario Bros. and Starlow.
After leading Bowser into a trap, Fawful extracts Peach from inside of Bowser's body and takes possession of the Dark Star, an evil and powerful entity with a seal that can only be broken by Peach. When the trio finds a barricade preventing any of them from entering Peach's castle, Mario and Luigi are able to sneak out of Bowser's body together via warp pipe into Toad Town, where physician Dr. Toadley tells them they must gather the three Star Cures in order to create the Miracle Cure, a magical medicinal object that will cure the Blorbs disease and destroy the barricade. Bowser overhears this and races for the cures himself, only to be trapped in a safe by some of his minions who betrayed him to serve Fawful. Ultimately, the brothers collect all three star cures, and the Miracle Cure destroys the barricade, healing the Blorbs disease in the process.
Bowser is freed from the safe and tracks down Fawful in Peach's transformed castle. After Bowser defeats Midbus, the Dark Star's seal finally breaks. Fawful starts absorbing its power until Bowser punches him away, and it enters Bowser's body, where it leeches on his cells and absorbs his DNA. Mario and Luigi go back inside Bowser's body to stop the Dark Star, but it escapes, and uses Bowser's DNA to start to become a shadowy, powerful doppelgänger of Bowser named Dark Bowser, and searches for Fawful to reclaim the power that he stole from it to complete the transformation. Fawful, meanwhile, has begun trying to locate the Dark Star to finish taking its power, but Bowser finds and defeats him, just before Dark Bowser finds Fawful and absorbs him. This allows for it to finally complete its transformation, and its power threatens the Mushroom Kingdom. Bowser fights Dark Bowser, and inhales the Dark Star's core when it tries to get away after he wins, allowing Mario and Luigi to fight and destroy the Dark Star's core, thus destroying Dark Bowser and the Dark Star, restoring the Mushroom Kingdom to normal. Fawful, having been inhaled into Bowser as part of the Dark Star's core during the battle, initially feigns remorse, before suddenly self-destructing in a final effort to destroy the Mario Bros. The explosion causes Bowser to regurgitate them and everyone else that he had inhaled. Enraged by the discovery, Bowser proceeds to fight the Mario Bros. but is defeated and retreats back to his castle. The two castles are rebuilt, Bowser's minions return their loyalty to him and Peach sends Bowser a cake as gratitude for his unintentionally heroic efforts.

Imagine how much better it would be to be sick in the Marioverse. Anyone can be an effective doctor, viruses can be easily killed with Megavitamins, there are actual Miracle Cures (in Dr. Mario and Bowser’s Inside Story)... Mario medical lore is fun to think about when sick!
Well we can’t all be born in Soup Meryo Werld now can we :/
Also I’m 99% positive it was confirmed Dr. Mario is not a real doctor so I can imagine the other “doctor” characters are also fake doctors
