"what does international law mean for Palestinian children in Gaza today? It has protected neither them nor their parents. It has not protected their families or communities, it has not protected their lives or limbs, it has not protected their hopes or homes. We are a proud and resilient people that has endured more than its share of agony.
It is so painful to be Palestinian today. "
Today at the international court of justice hearing on Israel's occupation of Palestinian territories, Riyad Mansour, the Palestinian ambassador to the UN, held back tears as he appealed to the judges to uphold international law in the Palestinian territories and help secure a two-state solution 'in which the two-states live side by side in peace and security'.

This picture shared by Motaz seems so surreal but I've watched the awful accompanying video footage. This isn't a movie. This is the reality of the people of Gaza every day. This is in Motaz's neighbourhood and today he lost both neighbours and relatives. We know he won't have time to grieve them, none of them have time to do that.
That we're still debating whether this is right or justifiable is absolutely insane. Maybe people are deliberately avoiding the graphic images and footage and maybe that makes it easier to explain away these atrocities.
We're approaching 2 months since October 7th and while we are being asked to almost immortalise the events of that day we are being simultaneously asked to look the other way on everything that has followed in Gaza, the West Bank and East Jerusalem. We are being told to write off what we're seeing in living colour as pallywood and Hamas propaganda but also told we can't correctly call out Israeli propaganda because it's antisemitic to do so. Even with proof, even when they admit their own lies. Are we paying attention?
Inb4 the free palestine movements say it was only about the west bank occupation and east Jerusalem annexation, and never implied Israel in it's entirety as the problem.
Palestinian violence is not unprovoked. The Israeli occupation of the West Bank is amongst the longest-standing occupations of modern times. It is an occupation that has continuously expanded. The land earmarked for a Palestinian State has been deliberately sown with Jewish settlements to ensure that no contiguous territory exists on which a Palestinian State might be built. The theft of land destroys Palestinian livelihoods. Their disenfranchisement reduces them to helots. Their claim to East Jerusalem is continuously eroded through evictions. Hard Right governments, settlers and orthodox fanatics relentlessly challenge the status quo at Jerusalem's sacred sites. The nature of the occupation produces a routine of provocation which the Palestinian subject of Israel's raj must endure daily, to merely survive.
