Trama: Il protagonista ha una scheggia ancora in petto e diverse cicatrici e problemi fisici. L'affascinante Ian Sinclair apprende costernato di essere diventato tutore della figlia di George Darlington, l'uomo per colpa del quale in guerra anni prima ha riportato ferite gravissime che gli condizionano la vita. Credendola una povera, piccola orfanella, decide di accoglierla in casa propria, ma scopre che in realtà Anne è un'incantevole ventenne, tutt'altro che indifesa. Pur innamorandosi all'istante della fanciulla, Ian si sforza di nascondere i propri sentimenti per via di un terribile segreto che si rifiuta di rivelare a chicchessia. Riuscirà la bella Anne a fargli capire che non è affatto detto che le sue paure si concretizzino?

La mia opinione: questo è un romanzo che va preso un attimo con le pinze e voglio avvertirvi. Per tre quarti viaggia normale come molti altri romance con trame simili e protagonisti tutore e pupilla, ma verso la fine c'è una scena di violenza sessuale che riguarda la protagonista femminile che viene rapita. Il colpevole non è il protagonista maschile, ma ciò non toglie che questo rompe del tutto il mood fino ad allora creato, invece l'autrice riporta quasi subito la trama su binari classici e scontati come se il trauma non esistesse e questo destabilizza assai il lettore.

Fantasma d'amore, di Christina Dodd

Trama: Lord Rand Malkin è paralizzato per colpa di un trauma subito, durante la guerra, un trauma più psicologico che fisico. Assumono una ragzza di buoni natali ma dalla reputazione rovinata che quindi deve trovare il modo di mantenersi per fargli da infermiera e lei soprendentemente ci sa fare e lo tira fuori dalla depressione senza cedere nè alla sua rabbia nè alla pietà.

La mia opinione: la trama sembra bella e classica lo so, ma attenzione in realtà è un romanzo piuttosto confuso ed altalenante, soprattutto dalla metà in poi l'autrice aggiunge una morte tragica, un mistero con degli attentanti da risolvere...insomma aggiunge talmente tanta carne al fuoco che il rapporto tra i due non viene molto sviluppato e molte cose vengono dette sbrigativamente. Non è un gran bela libro ma l'ho voluto in lista perchè era interessante che l'eroe fosse paralizzato a causa di un blocco psicologico e non fisico.

E deve anche costringerlo a rompere con la sua amante, la superbamente sensuale Fae Moulle, perchè vuole che si accasi con una donna perbene e a modo come Lady Clarissa Partridge.

Trama: il protagonista maschile è stato sfigurato in guerra e ora non vuole passare il Natale con la sua famiglia perchè non vuole lo vedano così, perciò ha deciso di passarlo con la famiglia di un amico ma ha sottovalutato il caratterino della sorella minore di lui che per le feste vuole rendere tutti felici.

Once upon a Moonlit Night Review

Once upon a Moonlit Night by Elizabeth Hoyt is a 87 page Romance Novella. I listened to it via audiobook, on audiobookss.com. It’s the 10.5 book in the Maiden Lane series.

Hippolyta Royle is running for her life. Pursued by hounds on a cold rainy night, the heiress flags down a passing carriage and throws herself at the mercy of the coach's occupant. Whoever this handsome traveller may be, he is her only hope to escape a terrible fate. But should he agree to escort her to safety, he's in for much more than he bargained for. At first Matthew Mortimer doesn't believe Hippolyta's story, that she's a fabulously wealthy heiress who's been kidnapped. He assumes she's a beggar, an actress, or worse. But once his new travel companion washes the mud from her surprisingly lovely face, and they share a breathtaking kiss, there is no turning back.

I rate this book 3.5/5 stars.

To be honest, it has only been a few days since I read this book and I already can’t remember shit from this novella. Maybe because it was so short and via audio.

What I do remember is that the characters were decent and I like the growth that Hippolyta shows, especially near the end. I won’t spoil anything but give it the quick 4 hours read (at 1x speed) and you’ll understand. However I know for certain that I won’t continue with any other books within this series because they’re not for me.

Thinking about Tenet again, and I'm actually so unwell about it

Like we don't even know the Protagonist's name but the story is all about him, and none of this could happen without him, and no one even knows his name.

And his 2 most important relationships are 2 people he's destined to lose.

He's never going to see Kat face to face ever again. He loves her. Is it romantic, is it platonic, is it just the act of two people who are treated like nobody seeing each other and feeling seen, idk, but the love is there. And they're never going to see each other again because they can't, because it's what's for the best. He's got too many potential enemies and she has to move on with her life, the safety of her son is her priority, and she can't sustain that if she's hanging around the Protagonist.

Don't even get me started on Neil. Neil, who recruits him. Neil, who is fated to die in order for the mission to be successful, Neil, who has to die to save the world. Neil, who is later/earlier on, recruited by the Protagonist. He has to know that when he sees Neil in the future, when he introduces himself again to a man who doesn't know him but who he knows so well he's haunted by him, that as soon as he recruits him, he's signing his death warrant. And he has no choice because the only options are the fate of the world and Neil, but I'm sure he still hesitates because it's Neil. How many hours do you think he wasted trying to find another solution, trying to find a way for Neil to live, only to fail and have to send him off to death anyway because Neil was right all along and, "What's happened's happened." And their timeline is all out of whack, they've each had their first meetings at different times in different orders. And Neil probably figures it out sometime that he's going to die and the Protagonist has lived through it once, because that's just the dangers of the field they're in. Meanwhile, the Protagonist must be counting down the days until Neil's final mission, until his past self meets Kat and Neil and learns about all of this.

Because it's not bad enough that he has to lose both of them once, he knows that in a way, he's going to lose them both again. At least one more time.

Former anon back again with Lorraine Heath recs okay so I am a chaotic little gremlin who doesn't read anything in order so I'll give you my favorite of her books and then if you're not chaotic like me my favorite series!

Waking up with the duke is a massive angst fest and I adore it! The Earl takes All aka the gorilla twins book is one of the wildest plots I've read in hr and it's gorg and also again angst fest literally made me cry. The Duchess Hunt is by far my favorite boss/employee hr it's the gold standard that all other boss books fail to live up to (do check triggers on this one tho!). And then my favorite series is the scoundrels of st James which is an older series of hers but I adore it esp the first two books. Very much Oliver Twist inspired which is hilarious. Also you're so valid for the Elizabeth Hoyt trigger stuff especially in the second half of the series some of the earlier books might work for you the (lol) Georgian Batman books are a lot less dark than the later ones iirc!

Can I just say I LOVED waking up to this message - especially the first part! While I am a choatic gremlin in life, I usually like reading in order. However, lately with HR I've been skipping around if I don't like some of the books in a series, especially if they are standalones without an overarching plot. Though through the Hellions series I have found myself loving books they tie themselves together.

All this to say, I'm not picky and bring on the chaos! Also all the titles you recced, I found it funny that on your previous ask, Caro (mermaidsirennikita) recced the same ones - yall have really similar tastes we love to see it! She, Triv and Z are my HR book influencers as I say below and I love them for it XD

Definitely adding these titles to my TBR and will live blog them when I start reading them! 

As for The Duchess Hunt, I am usually not a fan of the Boss/Employee trope - it’s gotta be done right for me and not be a shady HR violation lmao but I liked how Sara Cate dealt with it in Praise and this book sounds really compelling! Funny story, I’ve actually seen reactions and commentary by Trivia and Z in our group chats and I was really interested in it. So definitely going high on my list.  I’ve also heard of The Scoundrels of St. James and am into it but also so many books ahahha so we’ll see when I will get to them. I really need to start sifting through my TBR to see what I want to read next after Wanna Bet.

As for Hoyt, usually I am getting better with my triggers but also I am in a life slump so I am being more mindful of them than usual. Definitely interested in checking out the title Caro dropped - The Bodyguard with Whitney Houston changed my life and we love good disability rep so I am definitely down for that! The Georgian Batman books you mentioned also seem cool. Ngl I feel like this rn and I LOVE IT:
