It's a movie for a show that sadly got canceled before its time. The show was in 2001 and the movie happened in 2019. I love every part of the movie. It looks beautiful and just looking at it makes me smile.

It keeps the spirit of the original show while also being fresh and new; it doesn’t rely on being nostalgia bait! the art is great, it’s fun to watch, and the voice acting is good.

"Dr. Helen Taussig" (1975 - Yousuf Karsh) / "Une Martyre" (1913 - André Devambez)

DR. TAUSSIG: karsh is considered one of the best portrait photographers of the 20th century and it shows. this is the guy who was so unintimidated by winston churchill he just took churchill's cigar OUT OF HIS MOUTH and then took a picture of churchill GLARING at him. who ignored william lyon mackenzie king trying to order him not to take a picture of him looking Vulnerable and instead got one of him reading with his dog. and yet. this picture is of helen taussig. not well known around the world, but she helped change it. this lady essentially founded the field of pediatric cardiology. she saved thousands of children with heart defects. and this portrait shows it! she's cradling this baby so carefully, as she listens to their heart. and the baby stares at the viewer. curious about the world, and the thing hanging in front of them, and so so alive (kaerran)

UNE MARTYRE: something about this painting is so eerie in the best way. it strikes just the right balance of horrifying and making you want to look at it longer. perfection (frillishpink)

Like, imagine your housecat disappears and you're real broken up about it, and then you go on holiday to a lake and you see him leading a fucking patrol of feral cats marking territory in a militaristic, organized way. Everyone you ask around the lake about these cats is like, "oh yeah, those are members of the feral cat societies with territory wars, cat racism, and religion. so i went to the pool party with tattoo crush and her gf last night, and they told me they've gotten super into pinball recently, SO into it in fact, that they've enterned a pinball tournament and invited me to go watch it next week (in full costume) then after the pool party we went to a Barcade so we could play of course <3

A Black actor auditions for Othello and monologues about what the play means to him and how it both inspires and constrains him.

absolutely fucking STUNNING piece of theater & literature alike. this play is so sharply alive, dancing from shakespearean dialect to colloquialism in a breath, and it’s simultaneously so angry and so optimistic, and it’s a stunning piece of art about the complexities of a black man’s love for shakespeare, and it should be required reading at the end of any edition of Othello

Enter the Body is a story told in verse of the girls in those plays and their tragedies. The girls tell their stories, and then end them the way they want to.

Really moving and beautiful book.
