A Run For Your Money [Eric x Reader]
Tumblr media
Pairing: Eric x gender-neutral!reader Song Inspo: One Dance by Drake ft. Justin Bieber Word Count: 2,004 Summary: A new Dauntless initiate, y/n, captures Eric's attention. As trouble follows you, Eric is always nearby with a keen smirk. But you won't go down without a fight, promising to give the brutal faction AND instructor a run for their money. Warnings: violence, fighting, mentions of death Masterlist: see fandoms (pc-friendly)
Bam! Bam-bam, bam!
You are by yourself in the initiate training room beating on a punching bag. Today is one the rare days off that initiates get, and you chose to spend your time training. You made up your mind to transfer to this faction, so you did't intend to ease up on your pursuit until you make the cut. It seems that a group of female initiates were attracted by the punching sounds and have come to investigate. After seeing you, one of them attempts to show you how it's done.
Jace is bigger than her friends; one would assume that she was Dauntless born had the classes not been separated. She picks you up and throws you to the side, ready to set an example. You come back, jump and hock a leg around her neck, flipping her on her back to the ground. You land in a crouch, "Come on dude, don't be an asshole."
It's obvious that she nor her friends expected you to take her down. They thought that you would be intimidated like most of the other initiates, but Jace didn't hold her surprise for long.
"Well, that was unexpected, but not entirely unwelcome." She pushes off the floor and hops to her feet. You rise up with her as they meet for a handshake.
"Jace, Candor."
"Y/N." You turn away from her to go drink from your water bottle. Jace watches you for a moment.
"Which faction are you from, Y/N?" She asks. You blink and drink from your bottle before setting it back down.
"That's not important." You say. Jace isn't satisfied with your answer and is about to ask you another question.
"I couldn't agree more." The girls stiffen and jerk around to face Eric, posted up like a soldier with a sadistic glare in his eyes. "Do any of you want to explain to me why you're not downstairs?" His voice is menacing and full of authority. Jace and her friends look at each other confused. One of them tries to respond, but she's a stuttering mess.
"Bu-but w-w-we uh, I thought um.. I mean, we uh-."
Eric, having heard enough, cuts her off, "Got it. I'll give you a chance to make it down there, and you'd better make it before I get back down there." The girls scramble past him and rush down the stairs. You hadn't moved, choosing to remain silent until they had gone.
"Isn't today our day off?" You look at Eric expectantly. You aren't surprised when he starts grinning at you.
"Correct." He's walking towards you while shrugging off his jacket.
"Then why did you scare them away?" He smirks at the question and sets his jacket down near your water bottle.
"I'll be your sparring partner for today." You blink slowly.
"Alright."
2 hours later, you and Eric are both sweaty on the mats, breathing heavily as you stretch together.
"Thanks for the workout." Eric was impressed with you, and he's looking forward to welcoming you into Dauntless.
"No problem, I really enjoyed it. Thank you." You didn't expect the offer, but you appreciated it. Eric isn't known to associate with initiates outside of making sure Four is training them properly. So, while surprised that he wanted to spar, you weren't going to say no.
He nodded his head at you, grabbed his jacket and walked away. You watched him leave, strutting out of the training room with such confidence. He didn't even look like someone who'd been in a fight. You honestly feel inspired. One day, you're going to really give him a run for his money.
[ time skip - visitng day ]
When visiting day rolls around, Eric doesn't see his source of amusement. He wanders into the training room to see you finishing a set of pull ups. He stands in the entry way watching you come down to stretch. You bend down to the front, holds it, and then bend back into a back-bend.
You see him but don't say anything. You don't know how long he's been standing there watching, but since he didn't say anything neither will you. You take a few minutes to quickly stretch your body before picking up your water bottle and walking away. You almost makes it past him, but he stretches out an arm to stop you.
"Not so fast." You aren't looking at him, but he's looking at you. "Why aren't you down there with everyone else?"
"There's no one down there for me." You walk around him, and he lets you go. He sees that you're upset, but it isn't his place to comment on it.
[ time skip - next day ]
Early the next morning, Eric comes across you doing laps around the training room. You pause at seeing him there.
"You want to run?" You nod, your chest heaving with your breathing. "Come with me." You look around, unsure if you should follow him.
"I have training in an hour." He smirks at you.
"I'll make sure you're back in time." You nod again and follow him.
They run to a cliff spot with a full view of the sunrise. You hadn't watched the sunrise since being in Dauntless; you missed it. You wonder if this could be a regular thing for you again.
"Ready to head back?" You nod. "Can I come here every morning?" He regards you for a moment before replying.
"If you remember the way."
They jog back together and make it just in time for Four's class. You head over to join the other initiates lined up. Eric walks past them, ignoring Four completely as he heads to take a shower.
The next morning, you're running back to the Dauntless compound, coming back from your sunrise viewing. You're definitely going to make it part of your routine to run there in the mornings. Halfway back to the compound, you see Eric running toward you. You pass each other, making eye contact but not exchanging words or stopping.
[ time skip ]
Despite their rocky start, you and Jace form a competitive friendship. You're often seen sparring with one another, or with Jace's friends. With individual training, you two are always trying to out-do the other. Friendly competition became a great way for the both of you to become and maintain high ranks among the initiates.
Lately, Four has the group randomly paired every day for mock fights in the ring. Somehow, you always get paired with one of Jace's friends. You haven't lost a fight yet thanks to all the practice you had with Jace. The friend, Byron, was the biggest initiate of the class, so taking down anyone else was easier for you. Bruised, blustered, and bloodied, you managed to beat him. Even Four was impressed, with Eric nodding and smirking like he predicted your victory. Byron seemed pissed as he limped back to his spot. The fact of Jace teasing him didn't make it any better. Perhaps that was the catalyst that led to this unfortunate event.
[ time skip - that night ]
You were already in bed while everyone else was at dinner. You're an early riser which also means you're an early sleeper. That particular day had tired you out more than usual, so you slept heavy enough for someone to pick you up, cradle-style, and carry you away.
The culprits? Three men disguised in all black and ski masks who tried to dump you over the chasm.
One of the Dauntless members on the cameras sees them. He's in the camera room watching them almost drop you over until you wake up suddenly. Kicking and punching, you swing around on the railing to kick one of your attackers in the head. He hits the back wall and falls unconscious. One of them somehow is shoved over chasm railing, while you punch the other one in the throat and head until they fall. You snatch off the masks of the remaining two, and your face crumbles. Hurt and betrayed to see two of Jace's friends. You recognize Byron, and knee on the other one's dick. He tries to cover himself, but you kick his head, hammering down on it with both feet. As a floored Byron and his accomplices groan, you spit on him as a final assault before you stagger up and stalk off.
Four and Eric coincidentally show up in the camera room while this fight was taking place. Four notices that particular camera feed as he glances around the room when he first walks in. He immediately zeroed in on it, coming closer as he sees the victim, who he recognized as you, wake up and fight off their assailants. Four flips out, snapping at the guy sitting in front of him for not reporting this.
Eric, at seeing Four agitated, walks over behind him to see you in action. He finds it humorous, not caring at all about the sorry excuse for an initiate that fell over. Lucky him that he died before Eric could get to him. Those other two would pay dearly for what they just attempted, then maybe after he's done with them will he allow them to die.
Four tries to go to the chasm, but Eric tells him to take care of the guy in front of him first. "It's over now; I'll take care of them."
Eric tells the swarming Dauntless members to get those two initiates in a holding room until he gets there. Eric left the room in search of you, but he couldn't find you. Unbeknownst to him, he passed your hiding spot -- a hallway vent -- several times, but you didn't want to reach out to him. You saw a mix of other Dauntless members and initiates milling around, and you didn't trust them. So, instead, you tucked yourself deeper into your hiding hole and slept.
[ time skip - the next morning ]
You return to your bunk after you've calmed down. Jace tries to approach you, but you flinch away from her. Who's to say she didn't orchestrate the attack? Shortly after, Four, with Eric right on his heels, sped into the room. He's relieved to find you there, and he asks if you could come with them.
You're called to a meeting with the Dauntless leaders, the parents of the dead boy, and for some reason, Jeanine Matthews. The child's mother accused you of killing her son.
"Your son tried to kill me." His mother vehemently denied it, until she's shown the video feed. Then, she flips her argument.
"But you're not dead, now are you?" You, done with the conversation already, looks over at her.
"Let me guess, you'd rather I be dead."
"Yes!"
"Tough." You turn your head, dismissing her.
Eric is full-on grinning as the mother is short circuiting. Jeanine, ever observant of Eric and his mannerisms, notices Eric's interest in you. Thus, Jeanine also takes an interest in you. Reviewing in her mind the initiate's combat skills, she shifts her eyes over to you, who is busy staring out of the window. You could be another Eric, a great soldier to carry out her plans.
After much debate, mainly from the parents' end, you are dismissed. Due to the video evidence of the boy being involved with trying to kill you, and that he was actually bumped over by one of the boys, you are exempt from any punishment.
After the meeting, Jeanine pulls Eric to the side. He instead takes her to his office to hear what she has to say. She asks Eric what he thinks of you, to which Eric responds with a mediocre answer. He doesn't want you involved in this, but it seems his tactic isn't working. Jeanine doesn't buy it after seeing the video, and she gives Eric instructions to introduce you to the plans and get you working under him. After, she excuses herself and leaves him alone to his thoughts.
After lunch, Four escorts you to Eric's office. Four warns him not to be mean to you, and Eric tells him to get the fuck out of his office. During your meeting with Eric, he tells you the rundown of what's going to happen after you've passed your initiation. He doesn't go into too much detail, in case you have too much of an adverse reaction.
After he's done explaining, you're blunt with him, "That's stupid." Eric looks at you, but you keep your eyes on his computer and continues, "It doesn't make sense. She wants to kill people to keep the peace. And these serums, it sounds like some mind control scheme."
You look at Eric. He sees that you're smart enough to pick up on what he didn't say.
"You don't believe her, right?" You ask him. "You know that she wants to make everyone, except a select few, into mindless slaves that do whatever she wants while she rules over everything. You know that she wants a dictatorship and not peace, right?"
You pause for a moment to hone in on his unfazed expression. "Or maybe you do know, but you don't care." You look at him for a few more moments before leaning up and looking away, taking a stroll around his office.
He contemplates life while you busy yourself with looking around his office. How didn't he think about what life would be like with everyone under her new serum? He thought that he'd be done with Jeanine, and he could do whatever he wanted with Dauntless. He didn't care about the other factions. He really doesn't care about the people, but there's not much enjoyment in bossing around mindless slaves who are programmed to do what they're told anyway. How weird it would be to walk down the halls and pass people that aren't really there. Yes, there'd be no more people to piss him off, but there'd be no idiot to amuse him either. No one to hold a conversation with; no one to ignore for being stupid; and no one to threaten and watch them cower.
At that moment, he realizes that he would be bored and alone with not a soul for company other than Jeanine and her lackeys. He grimaces at the thought and sees how unpleasant it would be. He feels ignorant for not seeing the whole picture and not thinking ahead. He's going to rectify that.
[ time skip ]
It took Eric a few weeks to get together his evidence of Jeanine's crimes and organize a trial in Candor. It was unavoidable for some of his skeletons to be exposed, but fortunately, they were overlooked in light of him turning Jeanine in. She was found guilt and set to be executed, which was done by Eric himself immediately after the sentencing.
You passed your initiation ranked #1, with Jace pulling up #2. It took you a while to feel comfortable around her again, but ultimately, it wasn't her who hurt you. Thus, it wasn't fair for you to shut her out. Plus, she physically defended you whenever one of the guys got too aggressive with you, which was a nice plus.
You were also set to start your job working under Eric. The paperwork had already been approved by the time Jeanine's plans were foiled. Also, Eric had taken to courting you. Speaking to you more and spending time with you. He wouldn't date you until after you passed initiation, but now that you had, you and Eric have been together for about 3 weeks now. He was currently taking you to meet his parents for dinner.
Five minutes in, and you were not having a good time. Still, at least there was free food. Eric's mother, Blythe, addressing you, asks yet another insulting question. "So, how long have you been sleeping with my son?"
"Blythe!" Eric and his father shout her name, but you ignore her.
"Not going to answer?"
"No, I don't see how that's any of your business."
Taken aback, Blythe seethes before responding. "My son is my business."
"Yea, you're such a great parent, so supportive of your son's choices." You hear her gasp as you sip your water, not giving her the attention.
"How dare you-"
"That's enough," Eric hisses at her. He's pleased that you're not intimidated by his mother, but he doesn't like her being insulted.
"Are you going to eat that?" Eric asks you, eyeing your plate. You cut the steak and broccoli on his plate and fork it before turning to offer it to him. You have your other hand underneath in case anything falls from the fork. He eyes you again and you blink at him expectantly. He leans in, his eyes boring into yours as he eats off your fork. You turn back to spear more food onto the fork before turning to repeat your actions.
"I can eat my own food." He says while leaning in.
"Then why didn't you?"
As the night goes on, you two pay no mind to his parents. Even though Eric's father seems to genuinely support him, you don't see any sort of relationship blossoming with him or his wife. Yet, judging by Eric's reaction to Blythe, you won't have to worry about pleasing her. Sweet.

"You always do this shit, Y/N! I don't have time to spend with you, you know I work crazy hours and that's not my fault," Eric shouted at you, tightly crossing his arms across his chest as he glared over at you.
You didn't ask for much from Eric, you know his hours, all you were asking for was some time spent together at the end of the night in some form. It's been what feels like weeks to you where you've only seen glimpses of Eric, and it's been starting to take a toll on you. Why couldn't he understand all you were asking for was 15 minutes of acknowledgment or even just a conversation before he went to bed or started his wind-down routine?
"I'm not asking for a lot, Eric," You retorted, feeling defeated before you even opened your mouth to continue. "This fight is the most interaction I've had with you in weeks! You don't even ask me how my day is. Even though you don't mean to hurt me, you keep tearing me apart," Your voice got quieter towards the end, and you decided to stop speaking there because you didn't want to break down and cry in front of him.
"Bullshit," Eric responded, rolling his eyes. "Stop being so fucking insecure and maybe try being understanding. I'm so sick of this shit from you when I get home after a long day."
"Eric I'm opening my heart up to you about how I feel and you call me insecure? Why can't you ever be supportive? Why can't you ever just tell me that how I'm feeling isn't crazy, or that you miss me too and want to spend some sort of time with me when you can? I can't take this anymore, would you please have some mercy on me?" You begged, a tear falling from your eye.
"Mercy? Seriously?" Eric asked, scoffing. "That's so pathetic. I don't have to comfort you for every little thing, that's not my problem." You wiped the tear that fell from your eye, looking down at the ground and taking in Eric's words. Nothing is ever going to change. You sighed, looking back up into Eric's cold eyes.
"Fine, then I need you to set me free because this isn't fair to me anymore," You spoke, voice shaking, looking for any type of emotion from Eric.
He stayed silent, just staring at you. After a minute of silence, you decided to walk out the door before he could even say anything. Your pride is all you've got left, and your heart shattered at the thought that Eric could just never take it easy on you or try to understand you. You felt like nothing but a puppet being pulled by its strings whenever you tried communicating anything that hurt you, and you didn't know if you could take any more. He always manipulated and weaponized your feelings against you.
You took off running towards the chasm, more tears falling from your eyes as you thought of the past year and the relationship with Eric. You gave so much for so little in return, he didn't even care that you left. Lost in your thoughts, you didn't realize how slippery the bridge over the chasm was, or that Eric had followed you.
"Y/N!" Eric yelled out, taking you by surprise. And snapping you out of your thoughts.
You whipped around, in shock that he followed, but the next thing you felt was losing your balance due to your foot slipping. You cried out, trying to reach out to anything that could keep you from falling. You heard Eric shout out your name again as you just barely gripped onto the edge of the bridge with the fingertips of one of your hands. A final tear left your eye as you realized you weren't going to be able to hang on. You saw Eric's hand reach for yours to try and grab you, but he was a second too late. His face was the last thing you saw as you fell to your death.
Eric shouted out for you, looking at the hand that almost had your wrist. It all happened so fast. He looked around frantically, not wanting to believe he had just witnessed you fall. The sound of your body as it hit the ground below was going to be a sound forever pierced into his ears. All the air inside his lungs felt like it had disappeared as he started to hyperventilate. He continued to shout out for you, tears falling from his face down to the bottom of the chasm where you laid. One minute you were together, and the next you were gone, just like that.
"Y/N, I'm so fucking sorry," Eric cried out to the void. "Come back, fuck, COME BACK! Please Y/N..."
A crowd began to gather around as Eric continued to call out for you. He hung over the ledge, arm still out like he would be able to save you from the fate you just suffered. Max and Four quickly followed the sound of the commotion and yanked Eric off the ground the moment they saw him leaning over the edge. Both men had to use all their force to wrestle him away from the edge of the chasm and into a more secluded area, away from all the people who ended up gathering around him.
"Eric, what the hell happened?" Max asked.
"Y/N.." Eric trailed off, "She slipped, I couldn't grab her in time."
Four's face instantly dropped. Eric fell back down to the ground, head in his hands as he quietly sobbed. He didn't care how weak he looked, he just lost the one thing he loved. He was always prepared to sacrifice his life for you, and instead of him dying, it was you. The pain he felt swelling up in his chest was unlike any type of physical pain he'd ever felt before. He was internally begging for the same mercy you just begged him for. His cold, hard exterior that he'd maintained for his entire life fell the moment you did. If he hadn't yelled at you, hadn't called you names, if he had just listened to what you had to say, if he had asked you to stay.. all the what if's were now running through his head as he silently begged to be woken up from the nightmare he was in.
Eric jumped out from the seat he was in, breathing heavily as he ripped the wire off his head. He quickly wiped the tears on his face and looked around the room trying to reorientate himself to reality. He got up quickly, pacing the room and trying to ground himself as he kept repeating in his head that it was just his fear landscape and it wasn't real.
Eric's fear landscape was complicated. When he was originally an initiate, this specific fear was mild. He was never too worried about pushing people away and losing them. However, after he met you, this fear gradually grew and developed into his worst fear. Every time he ran this landscape, it never got easier.
It's hard to switch the coldness required to do his job off when it comes to you. The love Eric feels for you is complicated because of that. He's petrified of losing you, but he doesn't know how to not be argumentative and defensive when it comes to feelings. While he's been able to manage it for the most part within your relationship now, he's scared that might not be the case in the future. He wants to have that type of mercy for you, he truly doesn't mean to hurt you when he does. That's why he continues to suffer and run this landscape every week until he can figure out how to make it easier and beat it.
Once Eric felt he had his composure back, he realized he was late for meeting you for a quick lunch. It reminded him of the landscape, how he constantly blew you off and tore you apart that way. With that thought in mind, he quickly hurried out the door to meet you. One small step at a time, Eric was working to be the type of guy he felt you needed.

I Don’t Care - (Eric x Y/N)
Summary: Y/n and Eric are playing the dangerous game of “who cares less?” Y/n fears her heart getting torn to pieces, and Eric fears not being good enough. If only they could just swallow their pride and be honest with each other, then their relationship wouldn’t be in ruins.
Inspired by I Don’t Care by Fall Out Boy (in my defense I wrote this years ago)
“y/n are you coming over tonight?,” Eric asks as she sits with her legs folded underneath her on the couch.
She shrugs in response, not bothering to think through her schedule to see if she could make it over. Also not wanting to give him the idea that her life and schedule revolves around him. That was too dangerous in her opinion. A sure way of getting your heart broken is by letting them infect your life, but was love an infection? To her, maybe.
Seeing how easy it was for Eric to throw away friendships and how little he cared for other people made y/n suspicious that it was only a matter of time before it happened to her; so she remains distant and makes sure he never thinks that she cares more than him.
Seemed smart to her, but that’s not how a healthy relationship grows.
“I’ll see you whenever then,” Eric mumbles before leaving.
Y/n opens her mouth to say bye but the door closes shut before she can get the word out and as the closing of the door shakes the room, it seems to shake her. Y/n’s thoughts run wild with, he doesn’t care, so why do you?
He stops outside the door, hand still hovering on it. Wanting to go back in there and kiss her, just like he used to do before he’d leave. He hasn’t for some time now. A week, maybe two. He can’t remember why, he just knows that something changed in both of them.
Tumblr media
“y/l/n, get the estimated amount of supplies for the culinary department to Amity by Wednesday and make sure to actually get it to the right person,” Eric orders her as he walks by her office, not even bothering to knock or look up at her from his papers.
“As you were saying Oliver,” y/n rolls her eyes at Eric and turns her attention back to the guy sitting in front of her desk, leaning onto it. Getting a little too close.
Eric catches what she says before he walks away and stops for a moment. Turning to go back knowing very well that Oliver has eyes for y/n, everyone does, and he hates that. They can admire her... from afar, he’d always say when people teased him about being jealous. Eric stopped just as he entered back into y/n’s office and they were both laughing.
‘Don’t get jealous,’ Eric thought. ‘If she wants someone else, so what, what do you care, show her you don’t care’
‘Eric, please, show me you care, show me this bothers you,’ y/n pleads in her thoughts but she couldn’t say that, she couldn’t just ask him ‘do you care?’ because then he would have her in the palm of his hand, and he could hurt her so easily.
“Yes, Eric?,” y/n asks when Eric just stands in her doorway.
Oliver sits relaxed in his seat. Looking between Eric and Y/n, with a smirk. Little does Oliver know, she doesn’t want him and Eric wants to beat him. He is all too happy, thinking she does in fact want him and that he has now beat Eric because of that.
“Just wondering if you’re going to get to work or talk all day,” he raises an eyebrow at her. Like a teacher lecturing a student. He doesn’t mean to but he’s so good at making her feel so small. Something he isn’t aware of is possible.
“I’m with someone right now,” she replies and motions towards Oliver, who gives a slight wave.
“I’m not blind y/n. Get back to work,” he says before leaving and as he walks away he has to take a deep breath so he won’t slam his fist into the cement walls.
‘How hard would it have been to tell Oliver to leave… ‘ y/n can’t help but think, because even that small gesture would have been enough for her to know he still cares.
Tumblr media
The dark ill lit halls of dauntless echo with laughter from y/n and her friends. A group of about 5 people all from different years of initiation. Eric never got along well with y/n and her friends, mostly because of her friends being the troublemakers of Dauntless. The ones that were more stupid than brave, she liked the adrenaline rush though because sometimes she forgot about her problems with Eric.
As they reached the pit a lot of her friends ran off to go grab dinner until it was just her and Oliver left. She never disliked Oliver or had any reason too but she felt uneasy around him because she knew Eric didn’t trust him.
“So Eric is a bit bossy don’t ya think,” he laughs thinking he can turn her on him, or convince her slowly that Eric is a bad guy, but y/n knows Eric or at one point did, and she will always love him, for better or worse.
“No, well yeah he is but he rarely ever tells me what to do,” she tells Oliver, trying to think of a time when Eric ever really ordered her to do anything. Never. Only small things that had to do with work. He never even acted like that was something he could do, control her. She liked the freedom she had, and Eric never even thought about trying to take that away from her.
“but he’s so rough and mean, don’t you want someone that is gentle and kind, and he barely does anything for you,” He starts listing out problems and y/n immediately stops walking with Oliver. Angry he is talking about Eric in this way, someone that was so great-
He doesn’t care about you, why defend him?
Her thoughts constantly abused her in this way. Driving her crazy, If only they’d just leave her alone.
“I think I’m going to go. I have an early meeting tomorrow,” she tries to walk back to her apartment before her emotions become too much for her but Oliver grabs her wrist.
“I’m just saying, he’s a jerk that doesn’t even think twice about you, if you were with me I-”
“Shut up, you don’t know him,” y/n shouts and tries to push him away but he grips her tighter, a mean look in his eyes.
“Let go!,” she screams and before she even punches him herself a bigger fist knocks him out for her and pulls her away.
“Eric,” she has to yank him off Oliver who is pinned to the ground and if there was any doubt in her mind that he cared it was gone, but not Eric. She was protecting Oliver in his eyes.
“Eric, stop.” Y/n finally gets Eric off and Oliver is in a ball, bleeding on the ground.
She looks from Oliver to Eric, it’s a lot to comprehend in seconds.
“Stay away from her,” Eric practically growls at Oliver before marching away.
Y/n follows, angry and upset. “I could have fought him off myself,” she tries to argue with him, upset that he made her feel helpless.
“I know,” he says sarcastically, irritated that she is angry at him for simply helping her.
“Shut up,” she snaps at him.
Eric stops walking and y/n does too. “Where are you going?,” he asks her, amused because he knows that she is only following him.
Y/n doesn’t want to answer, saying she is following. His smirk is the reason she doesn’t want to.
“What am I doing? I can’t even say I love you to him in fear that he’ll know he can break my heart, that he will use me or abuse me. This has to stop,” she thinks, looking at Eric.
“Do you love me? You told me you did a while ago but do you Eric? Because sometimes you act like you couldn’t care less and it really hurts. I didn’t want to tell you this but I have to know, do you love me or not?,” she finally asks as she confesses what she never thought she could.
“I do, I love you but…,” he can’t finish his sentence not sure what he was actually going to say because there was not but. He just loved her, it was as simple and complex as that.
“But what? But you don’t want to or you can’t?,” y/n questions as her voice starts quivering, a single tear dripping down her cheek.
“Nothing, I love you and that’s it,” he says more like he’s giving orders than confessing his love.
“Good, I love you too.” She nods her head and wipes her tears away.
“Good.”
Y/n turns to walk back to her office but Eric grabs her gently, a hand on her hip and one on her cheek as she wraps her arms around him and they kiss. A kiss that compensates for weeks of acting like they don’t care when all they wanted was to be together.
“I love you, so much,” Eric admits to y/n, a hand stroking her cheek.

Thank you @duramater97 for inspiring me :3
Part 2 Part 3
Tumblr media
Despite being from Candor you were quiet, at least once you got to Dauntless. You were in over your head and were asking yourself every day why the hell you chose this faction when you could have lived a happy life in Amity? You supposed anything was better than home, but you still found yourself wishing you could just run away. Your trainer, and leader, was a tall piece of work named Eric Coulter. You wanted to punch him in the throat sometimes but you had to restrain yourself, you needed to pass the training, you needed to.
It was nearing the end of your training and you had slowly but steadily risen your way near the top, the top 3 in fact. You were a shy, lost little girl when you started despite being 23. You had fuck-all muscle tone and although your aim wasn’t too bad your endurance was terrible, but now, now you were strong; you worked hard, training for long hours throughout the day and on your days off, you ate better, and soon you pushed past the others. Your desperation to stay and prove yourself, not just to others, had pushed you past your limits to a place you never thought you’d ever be. You felt good, you felt ready, but knew you still needed to push through the last round before you could relax, before you could call yourself Dauntless.
“Faster!” Eric shouted over the beats of fists on the line of punching bags. “Remember, it’s not all about how hard you can punch! You can be as powerful as you like but if you’re slow you’re not gonna get far in a fight with someone faster than you!”
You breathed heavy through your teeth as you punched through the combinations despite your throat hurting from breathing so hard.
Eric walked past you and watched your technique intently. “Good, initiate.” He said before continuing.
A ping of confidence hit you but you didn’t let it phase you, you just kept going, not losing concentration.
“Time!” Eric yelled and everyone stopped, replacing the sound of thumping fists with heavy, desperate breathing.
One guy ran as far as he could to the side before throwing up. No one cared, they were just too exhausted.
“As you know, next week is the final round of your training, the fear landscape. Some of you have exceeded my expectations, I’ll admit, but some of you need to step it up before the test, you know who you are. You’ll have free time from now until Friday but I’d suggest you use that time to train. Dismissed.”
You didn’t want a week of free time, you wanted the test to be yesterday but you knew you needed at least one day to prepare your mind for the fear landscape. And you were right, you trained all week until the day before and spent the whole time going through every possibility that the simulation could possibly throw at you…there was just one that worried you. Deep water and claustrophobia you could push through but the third one you were afraid might break you despite what you had accomplished.
When Friday came and you waited outside the simulation room, watching one person after another either walk out crying or have to be carried out, you started to get nervous, the first time you had been nervous since you caught up on the scoring board. But when your name was called your mind almost stopped for a moment before being drowned with noise of fear and what ifs. The only sign you showed of being anxious was your picking at the skin on your thumb with your index finger. Four noticed this, the last time he had seen you do it was when you first arrived.
“You’ll be fine.” He said. You were comforted by the hint of compassion in his voice and you smiled a fraction before Eric yapped at you to hurry up and sit down. You didn’t bother looking at him, you just sat down and let them set you up.
“You’ll be seeing this?” You asked, looking at the monitor on the only table in the room.
“Yes.” Said Four, not making eye contact.
You put your head back and took a deep breath. You only just noticed you were shaking a little and before you knew it both Four and Eric were gone and the room began flooding with water through the door.

Tumblr media
You were one of the last to arrive at the infirmary, more than once on the way Milan offered to carry you in his arms but you didn't think it was a good idea. Although you had struggled and surprised yourself at how far you got on the circuit, you knew it wouldn't be enough. Eric had warned you not to remove the dart, and you knew that even if he was not present in some way if you did he would find out. If he didn't want you to take the dart off, imagine being carried in their arms. "Thanks for everything guys, go eat before it's all gone, you've done enough." you told them when you sat on a stretcher with the doctor. "We'll bring you some leftovers and we'll come see you before training in the afternoon" Winter smiled at you as you said your goodbyes.
"Second day and we already have the infirmary full, this year you have not been late" the doctor complained but his gaze was affable. "I just hope there's another day" you complained while he took the shot you still had from Eric. "And why wasn't it going to be?" he asked you calmly while he spread a cold cream on the shot that relieved your pain. "Have you been shot anywhere else?" he asked you again. "Well, because it is the second day and I am already the most hated here. On top of that, I have put Four in a mess and they already warned us, this year they are making cuts, I would not be surprised if they made me the first for my disobedience and my lack of attitude" you explained. "Yes, in the rib too" you answered while you lifted up your shirt to give him access to work. "How come you didn't take off the other one?" he asked you. "Eric ordered me not to do it" you shrugged your shoulders while he applied the cream but since that one didn't hurt you didn't feel pain but coldness.
"Well, what I think is that if you have survived the circuit on your second day and a fight with Eric, even if you lost, you do not lack attitude. And I don't know what you have done so badly but if that were the case, you would be out already." he commented to you while examining the cut on your forehead. "You've been lucky, we won't have to do stitches on your forehead and your nose doesn't seem to be broken, just a simple haemorrhage. Of course, you're going to have a lot of bruises for the next few days. I would tell you to rest but I know it's not possible, try to avoid putting yourself in unnecessary trouble that will slow down your recovery." he ordered. "Of course, thank you doctor…" you started talking looking for a plaque with his name on his clothes. "Loftland" he answered you with a smile. "Thank you. Y/M" you introduced yourself.
"Well, let's do the following Y/M, I'm going to give you some pain pills that you take today, after lunch and dinner to help you with the pain and while your friends finish eating and they bring you some leftovers, you rest okay?" You smiled as you nodded your head as you watched him go get something and come back. "And leave this bag of ice in your stomach, will help you with the bruises" he requested as he left closing some curtains between your bed to give you some privacy. Although you were very tired, the pain did not let you sleep but lying down for a while did you good. "Hi, are you awake?" Winter asked you after half an hour later with a plate. "I bring you your food and medicine" Winter smiled at you as you made room for her to sit on your bed and you lifted her back supporting her with some cushions to eat a little.
When you had some hot food in your stomach you felt a little more out of sorts and when you took the pill you hoped it would calm your pain enough to endure the afternoon session. Suddenly you saw how Four entered the infirmary and stayed talking for a while with Dr. Loftland and looked at you. As he got closer to your area, Winter got out of bed and you both stared at him in silence. "Hello, how are you?" he asked you. "Now after eating something, better, but I would be lying if I didn't say that my whole body hurts" you smiled at him, although you were honest, there was much more. You were very afraid of being kicked out of the group and your whole body was heavy, you were very tired and you didn't know if you would be able to endure one more class with dignity. "Winter, can you leave us alone, please? The training starts in fifteen minutes, in the secondary gym, we'll catch you up" he comment and she nodded, said goodbye quickly and you were left alone. Four closed the curtain of your room giving some privacy although the infirmary was already quite empty and he stood next to the bed.
"I didn't mean for you to get beaten up without knowing how to defend yourself when I proposed to give you the book." he started to speak. "I didn't mean to put you in trouble when I asked you… or myself to be honest… are you going to throw me out?" You asked helplessly, not knowing was driving you crazy. There was nothing worse than being factionless. "Not yet, you haven't been bad at all on the circuit and it will undoubtedly affect the teammates who lost the duel against you more than it will affect yourself." you unconsciously sighed in relief, letting go of your body tense and relaxing it, resting your back on the cushion again. "I think you were right in your arguments but you have to understand that here we don't need people to memorize and vomit answers. Today you have defended yourself and attacked with some blows that I taught you the day before that you surely did not even remember that you knew before entering in the circuit. We want to speed up your mind, that you learn to retain information because when you are trapped, you are in danger, you can get out with only your attention span and agility." I explain and you agreed. "That's why Eric has also put you on the circuit, his methods are a little more extreme and orthodox than mine, but all roads lead to Rome" he added.
"Also, someone very wise once told me that joining a faction is about more than just passing initiation, you know? I wanted you to realize that there is more to it, that while you were studying like crazy, life went on at your around and you were missing it. Whether we want it or not, the initiation marks all of us, our friends, even enemies, it is important and you have shown that you have the ability to honor your position in Dauntless, don't waste it" you nodded, you didn't know why he was telling you all that and you felt that when he spoke he was transporting himself in his mind in some way, he was there but he was not there. "I understand and believe me, I realized that. It won't happen again." you promised. You felt like you were being given a second chance and you couldn't fail, not because of you but because of Four who had been more generous than necessary and to prove Eric he was wrong about you. "Come on, let's go to class and try to not embarrass yourself" he stated as he opened the curtains and waited for you to get up.
The afternoon passed exaggeratedly slow, Eric was supporting Four the whole time, who ended up Four seeming more like an intern than a trainee. They did several exercise routines for the whole body, to help you gain resistance and strength that you needed. If by itself your physical condition was not the best, after the beating this morning, you gave a lot to be desired. Although the pills had taken effect and calmed the pain enough to be able to continue the class, every little exercise you felt the pain in your body and it was hard for you to keep up or push when they asked you to. And although you hadn't had much experience with either of them, that's when you realized the different teaching methods between one and the other. Four pressured you but he had empathy and wanted to improve gradually, Eric had no compassion, he yelled in class and his teacher's theory was to terrify everyone to do as he requested. You assumed that was why one was named a professor and the other was not. Although you couldn't understand how someone so hard and cold with others could become a leader. Maybe he wouldn't be so nasty with the rest..
At the end of class, you all ran to the showers and your muscles finally relaxed when you touched the hot water. "What do you want to do this afternoon?" Winter asked you as you shrugged. "I think I'll stay resting a bit, let's see if I can even take a little nap for an hour, shall we meet in the pit in an hour, an hour and a half?" You proposed to your friend and that's how you agreed. You wished everyone had gone but a small group of guys stayed in the back talking, luckily not too loud, and you were able to fall asleep. When you woke up, you changed your clothes and went to the Pit, it was full of life. People screaming, children running, many groups separate and together at the same time. Everyone with everyone and you smiled looking at them from afar. How would you like one day to be able to mix with people, feel them as your home. "Hey, look who we have here.. Y/M" your thought broke upon hearing your name. You looked around and it was a group of initiates, there were Anderson, Clark, Ember and some of their born Dauntless initiates whose names you didn't know and a couple of the transferees. "Hello" you greeted them approaching.
"My goodness girl, everyone is talking about you and now that I see you, you don't look so bad either" Ember commented. "How fast stories fly around here" you shrugged. "Obviously what did you expect, Lauren even took us to the circuit that afternoon when she said we were going to shoot guns, I guess it was to compare us" Clark commented. "And how was it?" You curiously asked about them. "Fine, no problem" Ember quickly replied, she seemed unconcerned by the conversation, listening to several but participating in a few. "Well, although I liked the part about attacking more than not defending myself" Clark joked. "Yeah for the most part fine although you should have seen Sam, Lauren has gone hysterical and yelled at her that even you had done better so who knows maybe you'll even get out of going under the cut" Anderson joked and you thanked him.
"Is what Lauren said about me so bad?" you asked sincerely terrified. "Not that much, the one you've pissed off is Eric. Enough for him to volunteer to supervise and manage your training, even if you don't think it's all your fault, he wanted Four so much that you gave him the perfect opportunity. But between us, there's a lot of respect. You haven't done badly, but that nonsense of wanting to study the agenda and question the system… is going to take its toll for sure" Anderson commented and you appreciated his sincerity. "Of course, it will take its toll on you, we don't create rebels here, questioning an order for wanting to make you smart can take its toll on many occasions, they are the ones who know, you have to listen to them, period" Ember commented.
"So Four and Eric don't get along very well huh" you commented out loud but more to yourself than the others. "Yeah last year at his initiation they were the dog and the cat. The two transferred and the two best in the class, despite the fact that Four always beat him. They tried to recruit Four for leadership but I don't know what happened to In the end they chose Eric under all odds" explained Clark. "Both of them are transferees? I had no idea" you commented surprised, they seemed 100% with the attitude of someone born here, you supposed that this made you practice and it gave you hope for one day you would seem as safe and integrated into your faction as they were, if you made it through the cut. "God Y/M and you were Erudition and you didn't want to find out everything around here?" I tell you about a boy whose name you didn't know. "No, I've already told you I'm not Erudition, I was born there but I belong here, like you. I don't care about their past, I care that they are my teacher and my leader and how good they are at their job" you commented closing the topic.
"But hey, let's change the subject… nice haircut" you commented to the guys you knew because they had invited you the previous afternoon to go with them. "Right? You could be just as cool if you hadn't gotten into trouble," Clark teased. "What if, what if, that we don't return to the same topic, do you think I could go tomorrow?" Asked. "And who would accompany you? You need a member to go out" they commented. "Calm down, look, that's the hairdresser over there, talk to her to see if she can help you" she offered, pointing to a woman who was in a group talking and you went over to see.
"Hello, excuse me, excuse me for interrupting, my name is Y/M, have they told me that you are the hairdresser?" you said interrupting while she nodded and separated you from the group. "Yes, I'm Hanna, you're an initiate right? What a face, hard day?" she asked you nicely. "What am I going to tell you, yes, I was going to come tomorrow with Anderson and other boys but things got complicated. I'm looking forward to cutting this hair, could you tomorrow?" you explained. "Yes, you could come in the afternoon, after training. Do you have someone to drive you?" she asked you while she took out a mini diary to write down the appointment you assumed. "The truth is that no" you shrugged. "Well, don't worry, I'll talk to Shauna or Bud, who are on the same schedule as you, to see if someone can come and bring you." she offered you "Thank you very much, I won't bother you anymore, see you tomorrow" you said goodbye as you returned to where the group of initiates was but realized that they were no longer there. You stood admiring your surroundings, you didn't know anyone and you didn't really know what to do until you saw Eric in a corner and something inside you couldn't resist going to talk to him even if it could get you into more trouble. But how could that be, if you just wanted to apologize.
"Sorry, Eric, do you have a second? I'll be very brief" you said as you approached. He looked up without recognizing your voice at first and when you came across your person he snorted. "You better, I have had enough of you initiates, what do you want" he spoke as if it were an order and looking around, he wanted it to be short and he seemed to be waiting for someone "Eh… I just wanted to apologize for wasting your time supervising the training sessions, I'm sure you have a thousand better and more important things to do and thank you for this morning's session. It's been hard but today I've learned a lot, not only on the circuit but also outside of it. I've understood and I trust you, I never wanted it to be interpreted as not I did it, it won't happen again and I hope to show you my worth as a Dauntless for the rest of the year" you synthesized while your body was tense and straight towards him. He stared at you as if he hadn't expected that, you saw for a few seconds the change in his expression back to the same face of few friends as always. "Don't worry, if you don't show it, you'll leave, you can go" he ordered you. You nodded your head and walked away, guessing it could have gone worse.

Eric Coulter x reader Fandom: Divergent Words: 868
*Trigger warning* mentions of injury, Eric being rude (as always), fluff?
Three weeks since the fractionless had been caught in the warehouse. Three weeks since you almost died because a bullet hit you. And two weeks since you left the infirmary and Lynn started helping you out in your day to day life. She brought you food and kept you and your apartment looking decently clean. Even Eric came over after Leader-meetings to give you updates on everything going on outside of your safe zone.
The injury had left you unable to move your arm properely, but the doctors said it would take a few months and then a lot of training to get everything back to how it was before. So you were stuck in your apartment with noting better to do than to think about how you could have missed the shooter that day.
"So Max would offer you to work in the control rooms until you have recovered.", Eric's words snap you back to reality and you direct your gaze at him. "I don't want to go back to work yet and Max knows about that.", you sigh and pull your knees up towards your chest. "You need to go outside again y/n. People are talking and making up stories about what actually happened. Dauntless don't behave like this after an injury like that!", the tall man almost jumps up from your sofa and towers over you. "When was the last time you got shot Coulter?", glaring up at him you also lift yourself off the couch an walk past him. "During initiation. Because I am aware of my surroundings while on a mission.", stopping dead in your tracks you turn back around and face Eric. "Well you should report my carelessness to Max then and get me kicked out of here. See how long it takes for me to shoot you as a fractionless.", the words come out even harsher than you intended but the laugh that leaves Erics mouth makes you even angrier. "I'll get going then. Better to catch Max in his office than on his way to his woman.", you slam shut the door to your bathroom while Eric still makes his way toward your front door.
Getting the black shirt over your head without moving too much of your right arm was a challenge which had you cursing quietly until you where completely naked an inside the shower. The hot water hitting your skin soothed the soarness from sleeping on one side for weeks almost instantly and you calmed down until it happened. A bottle of Shampoo fell to the ground and instinctively you reach for it with your injured arm. Screaming out in pain you held your arm and instantly turned off the water.
Mere seconds later the door bursts open and there he was standing and looking around the slightly foggy room - Eric. "Get the fuck out of my apartment Coulter!", you try to cover your naked body from his cold, blue eyes as he quickly turns around and faces the wall. "What did you do now? I could hear your scream out in the hallway.", is that a worried undertone in his voice you could hear? "Well what does it look like? I am taking a shower.", you spit out sarcasticly while trying to get a towel wrapped around you.
"Don't lie to me Y/n. Do you need help?", you can see his muscles tensing as you step out of the shower. "I don't need your help or pity, Eric.", "I don't pity you Y/n. We are worried about you. Well fuck - I am worried about you. You havent left this apartment in almost a month and talked to no one beside Lynn and me.", he turns around and almost smashes into you. "You worry about me? Are you even capeable of that Eric?", instead of taking a step back you stand your ground and stare up at the tall man. "I want to take care of you and", "I can take care of myself just fine.", you interrupt him and stab a finger into his chest. "You can go and take care of some initiates or the fractionless but you don't need to take care of me.", "Y/n can you please calm down and listen to what I'm trying to say?", Eric grabs your wrist and actually manages to shut you up by pulling you even closer towards him. "I want to take care of you. I want to be there for you so you don't get hurt like this anymore. While getting you back here I thought you died in my arms and I realized that I need you more, than you need me.", he almost whispers the last part and you look up at him. "Will you say you love me right now?", your voice is barely audible and a choked up laugh leaves Erics lips. "Don't do this now Y/n. You know me better than anyone else here. I would never say that to anyone.", he let's go of your hand but you stay close to him. "Well that's pretty rude of you. But it's ok. I would also never say that to anyone.", a slight smile crosses both of your lips.

Truth Requires Bravery Ch 7
A/N: I told myself I wasn't gonna do author's notes cause I wanted this to be like a legitimate book but omg you guys what was that last chapter? I was trying to write a nice lil smutlet and then it just went off the deep end. Wtf is wrong with me? Lol whatever, we're just gonna move on with the story
There are three constants in life. One is that we all will die. The second is that the sun rises and falls each day, marking the passage of time. And the third is that Alissa and Eric are two of the most stubborn fucking people you will ever meet.
Both were too proud to admit their attraction to one another, so they both privately resolved to pretend like last night never happened. But as we all know, hormones are a damn hard thing to fight.
Alissa woke up the next morning and rolled out of bed. She was still shaken from the events from yesterday but decided it was all Eric's fault. Hell, if he and his rag tag band of Dauntless scoundrels hadn't B&Ed an entire faction, maybe Alissa would never have met his stupid, handsome, smug face (STOP IT, Alissa!) and the front lobby of Candor wouldn't be covered in shattered glass.
Alissa had taken an oath of devotion to the truth, and she knew one thing to be true: Eric had to go. And she was going to do everything in her power to make him leave, including, but not limited to, pissing the hell out of him. What Alissa didn't know, however, is that when Eric Coulter decided he wanted something, he was going to try, come hell or high water, to get it.
Eric woke up in a ~partially aroused~ state on account of his dreams last night. His eyes were bleary and his mind a little groggy since he had been up quite late with his interfactional relations activities. Hell, who knew one of his least favorite classes in the academy could turn out to be so interesting?
Eric knew exactly why it was so interesting, but he would never, EVER admit that he was simping after a woman. No, he was just going to protect what was rightfully his. That was all. Of course. That's all it is. 100%. Right.
Eric woke up, brushed his teeth, and attempted to style his hair the best he could, without his customary high hold hair gel. Although limited in wardrobe choices on account of having a uniform and all, he did have some room for options. Technically he didn't need to dress up, but if he was going to claim what was his, he might as well look the part, right? Right?
Eric swapped his customary military jacket for a simple, well fitting black tank top that showed off his impress biceps. He wanted to look as imposing as possible to ensure no other man tried anything. No one stole from Eric Coulter and got away with it. And Eric was damn sure going to keep it that way.
Alissa finished getting ready and opened the door to the room only to find Eric bearing down on her. What the hell? Hadn't the man ever heard of knocking?
"Hi?" she said, annoyed. She noticed his outfit was more revealing, showing off the large biceps she had just been fondling less than 24 hours ago. Damn you, Eric, she thought, why do all the hot ones have to be such jackasses?
"Where's the cafeteria?" He narrowed his eyes.
"What's the magic word?" She sing-songed mockingly.
"Where the fuck is the cafeteria?" he said through gritted teeth.
"That's two words," she pointed out with a mocking smirk.
Fucking bitch, Eric muttered, pinching his nose. "Seriously, Alissa."
God damn that fucking hiss again. Taking a deep breath and trying desperately to maintain an air of perturbed nonchalance, Alissa rolled her eyes and replied, "Whatever, here." She brushed past him and began walking down the hallway when suddenly he grabbed hold of her arm. Her eyebrow shot up.
"Wait a minute. Did you just try to steal something from me?"
"No," Alissa scoffed. This time she was actually honoring her faction and telling the truth.
"I think you did," Eric said. He whipped out his gun and pointed it at her head. "Get down on your knees and empty your pockets."
Alissa sighed. "Here we go again. Didn't you learn from yesterday, guns don't work on me?"
Eric pressed the gun closer. "I'm not gonna ask again. Get down on your knees and empty your pockets."
"Would you like me to suck your dick too while I'm at it?"
"Well if you're offering," Eric smirked lasciviously.
Alissa raised an eyebrow. "I only offered because I knew it would be small enough to fit."
Eric's jaw clenched. "That's not what you were saying last night."
Alissa's other eyebrow raised up. "You do realize acting is a thing, right?"
A vein literally popped in Eric's forehead, which brought Alissa immense pleasure. Checkmate. Alissa - 1. Eric - 0.
Alissa could tell Eric was about to do something drastic. No man with anger levels that high and impulse controls so low would remain calm in that situation. So, Alissa decided to use some preventive tactics. Namely, she kicked him in the balls and ran.
Alissa could feel her heart beating in her chest as she heard Eric's howls of pain in the background (yet another great source of pleasure for her. She was on a roll today!) She knew it was only a matter of time before he caught up to her and then he would be ROYALLY pissed.
Thankfully, Alissa was blessed with something Eric was not - an insider's knowledge of the Candor building. So, while Eric was clutching his boyhood (manhood, Alissa decided, was an inapt term for such a child), she snuck off down a secret underground passageway.
Technically, a secret passageway seemed very un-Candor like, but the faction often used it as a litmus test to see who was curious to discover the truth. The passageway was gladly revealed to anyone who asked, but very few asked, and thus, it was de facto a secret.
Once she was inside the passageway, Alissa leant up against the concrete wall and took some deep breaths. She was safe. For now.

Part 1 Part 3
Tumblr media
You had to get to a room with a window which meant you had to get out of the simulation room but the water flooding in was just too powerful.
You stopped to think for a moment before waiting for the room to fill, taking in one more deep breath before diving under. Now that the room was full there was no more water gushing in and stopping you form getting out. You swam as fast as you could out of the open doors and down the hall where you knew there was an opening to the pit, you were on the ground floor so you knew that you would be able to get to the surface that way.
Down a few more corridors you realised you were running out of air a lot quicker than you thought you would and started to panic, but just like you did back home, you turned off your emotions and charged forward, you had no time to hesitate. You made it to the pit and swam as fast as you could to the surface, unsure if you were going to make it, but you did. You gasped for air like it was your very first breath and took in the air for a few seconds before you realised you were suddenly in open ocean. No land in sight, and it was getting dark.
Your heart began to race like it had never done before as you looked down around you and all you could see was pitch black beneath the reflections on top of the water. Your breathing became jagged and hard and you could feel yourself start to panic, but when you felt something touch your foot you screamed and kicked instinctively, it was a great white shark. You could barely see it underneath the reflections on the surface so you took a deep breath and dived, able to see clearer now, the shapes and colours at least, it was lighter than the water around you. You saw it coming and as it approached, despite the fear, you straightened out your fingers and stiffened them, jabbing them as hard as you could into the sharks gills as you dodged it, it looked agitated and came back for another go but you repeated again, this time harder, not caring if you broke a finger, and eventually it went away.
Just as you started to relax you saw walls begin to rise out of the depths and start to enclose you. Immediately your heart rate was back up again and you tried to swim away before they could get to you but it was too late. Before you knew it you were in a pitch black cube, the water had drained but the cube was getting smaller and smaller faster than you felt comfortable with. You desperately felt around for something to use to keep the walls from moving and it wasn’t long before you felt a crow bar resting on the floor and you quickly picked it up and jammed it into the tiny gap you felt between the floor and one of the walls. You yelled in frustration as you pushed the other wall with your feet and slowly felt them both stop moving.
Suddenly a hatch opened on one side of the cube and you crawled out desperately, taking a moment to catch your breath before hearing thumping footsteps outside the door of the room you realised you were in, then you realised it was your bedroom.
“Open the door!”
It was your father’s voice. You were frozen, you found yourself stepping backward into the corner of your the room, pressing yourself against the wall.
Your father kicked down the door and charged in with that look in his eye that let you know that you weren’t going to be able to sleep on your side for a few weeks.
“No.” You said. “No, no, please, please, don’t.” You cried.
“You worthless slut.” He hissed, nothing but sheer fury in his voice. “Dauntless! You chose dauntless after everything I’ve done for you!”
You had your arms raised, ready to protect yourself as you always did, tears running down your face.
“I raised you you ungrateful little bitch! And now you desert your family!?”
Suddenly it hit you. The word Dauntless striking a chord in you like a hammer hitting a piano. Dauntless. Dauntless.
The tears stopped. You stood up straight. You looked him right in the eye and spoke clearly. “I never had a family. You never did anything for me other than beat me when I wasn’t as good as your precious erudite son. I’m dauntless now. I don’t fear people like you, and I never will.”
He leant back and took a swing at you but you used the same boxing combination Eric tad taught you and blocked it, knocking him out with an upper-cut that knocked him to the floor.
Suddenly you jolted upright in the chair, Four and Eric standing over you.
“Hey, hey, it’s ok.” Said Four, his voice a little softer and more empathetic than before. “It’s over.”
You leant your head back and swallowed, trying to slow your heartbeat as Eric took the device off your temple. You thought you noticed a flash of compassion on his face but thought you must have imagined it. But the glint of pride you couldn’t miss.

Hoodie - Eric Coulter
Masterlist Here
Word Count: 2137 Trigger Warnings: a lot of angst, descriptive self-harm, substance abuse, alcohol use, mentions of miscarriage  Note: These imagines are my own work and I do not consent to distribution of my work elsewhere!
Tumblr media
You felt scorched by the heat as you grabbed the sleeves of Eric’s hoodie you were wearing, pulling them down and holding onto the ends with tight fists, crossing your arms tight into your chest. You couldn’t stop the tears that were flowing out of your eyes as you sat on top of the roof of the Dauntless headquarters, staring out at the building lines. ‘How Dauntless of you,’ you thought to yourself as you now tried to wipe the tears away. You couldn’t even begin to explain the emotions you felt in that moment, or how you had even ended up on the roof in tears.
As you choked back a sob that threatened to leave the back of your throat, you stood back up and paced around, trying to do breathing exercises to calm yourself down enough to at least head back inside and down to your shared apartment. All you wanted to do was lay in bed. You’ve felt so beaten down and exhausted for the past few weeks, and its only gotten progressively worse since the new initiates arrived. A part of you wished you could understand every emotion you felt, but instead you shoved it away to the back of your mind, wiping the last of your tears and grabbing onto the ladder to hoist yourself back downstairs.
You kept your head down and the hood of the hoodie up, not wanting to draw attention to yourself as you slipped into your apartment and crawled into the bed, pulling the covers up to your neck. Eric's cologne was strong as you curled into his hoodie, your favorite comfort item since the incident that happened to you. You tried to hold back your tears, but like clockwork the second you were curled up in the blanket the waterworks started all over again.
“What the hell is happening to me?” You murmured to yourself, trying to wipe away the tears furiously as they continued to spill down your face. Looking out at the hallway, you saw the door to what would have been your daughter’s room. It was like instinct when you found yourself getting up and walking past that door and to the bathroom, locking the door behind you.
Without even thinking, you reached for the leftover pills in the medicine cabinet from when you were injured a couple months ago, pulling out a couple of pills and the razor you hid in the bottle. Your body shook as you continued to sob, swallowing the pills without any water and sliding your back down the door. As you sat on the floor and felt the pain meds take over, you mindlessly lifted a sleeve up and dragged the razor down your arm. You begged inside your mind for the pain of losing your daughter to go away, and all you wanted to do was take the pain from your mind and place it onto something, anything else. It just happened to be your arm with the razor this time.
After a couple more superficial cuts, you inhaled sharply, and focused your pain from your mind to the physical pain as you finally started to calm down. You closed your eyes for a minute, letting the emotions wash over your entire body and leave through the self-inflicted marks. You didn’t even hear the code punched in and Eric enter the apartment, you were lost in your own little world behind the bathroom door.
“Y/N?” Eric called out, breaking you out of your haze. Shit. You didn’t think he’d be back so soon. How long have you even been sitting here?
“One second!” You called out, scrambling to get up in your drug induced state, knocking over the bottle of pills in the process. The blood had dried on your arm at that point, but you accidentally reopened one of the wounds as you rushed to pick up the pills, hoping Eric didn’t hear the rattling noise.
You quickly rinsed the blade, placing it back in its hiding spot with the pills you quickly picked up. You left the water running and placed your wrist under it, feeling the slight burning sensation of water mixing with the open cuts. You winced slightly as you quickly grabbed a wad of gauze, wrapping it around your arm and pulling the sleeve back down. After wiping your eyes one last time, you unlocked the bathroom and walked out, noticing Eric sprawled out on the couch, head turned to look at you the second he heard the door unlock.
“Hey, how was your day?” You managed to get out, instinctively pulling your arms close to your body as Eric studied your face.
“You know how it is training the new initiates. Every single one of them is a pain in my ass,” Eric paused for a moment. “Did you drop something when I came in?”
You took a deep breath before answering, “Yeah I accidentally dropped a bottle when I grabbed the mouthwash.” You could tell Eric didn’t necessarily believe you but didn’t want to push it any further.
He stood up and wrapped you in a hug, and you breathed in the smell of his cologne. He leaned down and kissed your lips, pulling away almost as quick as he started to stare into your eyes. You heard a soft sigh leave his mouth as he noticed your puffy, red eyes. He didn’t know what to say or think as he picked you up by your thighs with ease, carrying you to the couch and setting you down with him.
“Shots?” You asked before he could ask what was wrong.
“You sure?” He asked hesitantly before continuing, “Are you okay?”
“I’m fine,” You lied. “Try and keep up with me.”
You know Eric won’t back down from a challenge, and you were hoping you could just get drunk and forget about the incident in the bathroom. The past few days you’ve relapsed after a long time of staying clean, and you’ll be damned if Eric finds out. You put on the best fake smile you could as you grabbed your liquor of choice from the freezer. Eric was up now and next to you, grabbing the shot glasses from the top shelf while you opened the bottle.
You knew Eric would keep up, and the next thing you know you’re both 5 shots deep, Eric barely affected by the liquor and you struggling to speak. You weren’t usually a lightweight like this, however because you mixed your liquor with the pain pills, you felt an unusual sensation come over your body as you tried to sit down at the table. You almost missed the chair, giggling to yourself over it before sitting down. Eric raised an eyebrow at you when you insisted on another shot.
“Y/N, you’re already pretty fucked up,” Eric spoke, pouring himself one last shot and putting the alcohol away much to your dismay.
“No I’m not!” You slurred slightly, pouting at the fact he poured himself one more but not you. “I want another shot.” You demanded. Anything to numb your brain even more of the depression you’ve been in.
“No.” Eric said firmly, eyebrow raised again when you tried to stand up and challenge him.
“You know you’re not the fucking boss of me,” you said, almost tripping over your own feet trying to walk back over to the freezer.
“What the fuck is going on with you?” Eric said, grabbing your wrists as you almost fell. You let out a small wince in pain, straightening yourself up and trying to continue your quest to match Eric’s shot.
“Literally nothing Eric-“ you started, but got cut off instantly.
“You’re acting like a sloppy drunk and you’ve barely had anything to drink.” Just like that, it seemed to click inside of Eric’s brain.
You didn’t even notice him walk over to the bathroom to check the medicine cabinet as you were too busy drinking even more liquor straight from the bottle. ‘That’ll show him,’ You thought. Eric came out with the almost empty pill bottle in hand, slamming it onto the table as you now realized what was going on. You watched as he threw the razor blade out, trying to stop him but this time falling straight onto the floor.
“Y/N, what the hell did you do?” Eric asked, voice raised as he picked you up, quickly carrying you to the couch. Your sleeves rode up in the process, and Eric’s fear had been confirmed when he saw the gauze.
“It’s nothing babe, it’s no big deal,” you said nonchalantly, resting your head on his chest as you closed your eyes, the entire room starting to feel wavy.
“No big deal?” Eric almost screamed at you, startling you and making you jump back a little. He quickly but gently ripped the gauze off your arm, looking at the new cuts along with the few day-old marks that he originally failed to notice. “How many fucking pills did you take?”
“Just a couple to make the pain go away,” you said, tears starting to form in your eyes as a wave of those strong emotions you tried to neatly pack away came back to you. You sobbed into his chest as he held you close, trying to think about what he needed to do.
“Baby,” He whispered into your ear, the smell of liquor filling your nose from his breath. “Why didn’t you talk to me? Why did you hide this?” The hurt tone in his voice made you cry even harder. You rarely hear that tone of voice from him.
“Because it’s not very Dauntless of me, Eric. I don’t need everyone judging me or my character because I’m a little sad,” you spoke, wrapping your arms around him even tighter. “The way everyone looks at me knowing I had a brutal miscarriage is already too much.” Eric’s arms tightened around you at the mention of what had happened just a couple months prior.
You had gotten attacked by a factionless at 5 months pregnant, and the stab wound you got from it resulted in you losing your child. You were going to have a beautiful baby girl with Eric, and that got ripped away from you. Your entire body shook as you started to feel sick at the thought of what had happened to you again. The images are already on a constant replay. You couldn’t protect your daughter. You’ve been carrying the burden of feeling like it was all your fault since you lost her, and you’ve refused to talk to anyone about it. Even Eric.
He felt numbed by your words as he stared down at you helplessly. Even his former Erudite didn’t know the words to say to make you feel okay again. He just held your crying body as close to him as he could, rubbing your back slowly and trying not to cry himself. That damn alcohol made him feel a little softer than normal though, and a tear slipped down his cheek thinking about his daughter he never got to meet. The sadness he felt quickly turned to anger as he thought about the man who did this to his family. The man who took the life of his daughter, who almost took away your life.
You quickly fell asleep in his arms from the pills, liquor, and crying. Eric carried you to the bedroom, placing you under the covers and sighing. He walked out of the room and threw the first thing in his sight, listening to the glass shatter at the other end of the apartment. He hated seeing you like this. After cleaning up the mess he made and checking on you, he quietly opened the door to the room that was going to be your daughter’s nursery. Neither of you dared to go into the room since you lost her. He looked around, choking back tears of his own as he picked up a stuffed animal you had picked out together.
He couldn’t bear the pain any longer and set it back down, leaving the room quickly. He checked on you once more before slipping into the bed with you, holding you tight in his chest as he tried to drift off to sleep. He knew that it was going to be a long road of recovery still for the both of you, but at least he still had you here. Eric swore to himself before falling asleep that he was going to get both of you through this, even if he didn’t know what he was going to do right now. With that thought on his mind he fell asleep holding you tight, rubbing your back underneath his hoodie you wore.

Would you be willing to do an Eric Coulter arranged marriage AU one shot where Eric and reader are put into an arranged marriage to further unite Erudite and Dauntless, or a soulmate AU one shot where the reader is originally from Erudite and switched to dauntless, she works as a doctor and they meet after Eric ends up in the infirmary for some reason. In either case, the reader is early 20’s and Eric is around 26, and everyone is older when the choosing ceremony takes place instead of being teenagers.
Cara Mia
Eric Coulter x fem reader (Jeanine's daughter)
Tumblr media
"What the fuck, you put me in an arranged marriage", Eric yelled angrily toward Max.
yes, but it's beneficial because the girl you are marrying is Jeanine's daughter and is to further unite Erudite and Dauntless", Max said walking up to Eric and handing him a picture of you.
It was a picture of you in blue clothes with your hair down smiling in the photo. Eric had to admit you were beautiful, but it didn't matter, he wasn't the type to settle down.
"When do I meet her?", Eric said stuffing the photo in his back pocket.
"Tomorrow".
Y/N P.O.V
What, No mom I refused to get married to a guy I don't even know", You complained to your mom. You always knew this would happen, your mother using you for her own personal gain but you wished it wasn't today.
"It doesn't matter you will get married whether you like it or not. He's a Dauntless leader one of the youngest and was originally from Erudite himself". Jeanine finishes with no emotion on her stone-cold face.
She made it sound so easy to get married to a complete stranger but you had to do you had no other choice. She gave you a picture of the Dauntless leader, he looked scary with his piercings and tattoos. Blond hair and all-black outfits showing off his arms, no smile but his blue eyes were the most beautiful of his features.
"When do I meet him?-"
"Tomorrow"
I couldn't sleep at all, thinking about my future husband. What if he hates me? What if ignores me? so many scenarios coming to my head. I was too nervous to sleep waiting anxiously to meet my future husband.
I woke early the next morning trying to figure out what to wear.
"Good, you look presentable", my mother said before leaving out the door towards the car. I followed her waiting anxiously till we arrived.
Two Dauntless guards escorted us out of the car to the head of the leader of the Dauntless office.
I saw the guy in the photo looking displeased at everything, I could tell he wasn't so thrilled about the engagement.
"Eric this is my daughter", Jeanine introduced us to each other.
"we will leave you alone to get to know each other better", Max said before walking out with my mother closing the door.
"Look we both know we are not happy about this engagement but we should make the most of it right", I said but in return, I only heard a scoff.
"It doesn't matter but you should be happy to marry a dauntless leader like me, Cara Mia", Eric said in a cocky tone stepping closer to me.
Blushing I replied, "Why don't we try to get to each other, I'm Y/n, I am 20 years old, and my favorite color is (whatever you want)."
"Eric a Dauntless leader, 26, and Black"
"Isn't that just a fitting color for", I said gesturing to his clothes. For the first time, I saw him smile since I came here, which was beautiful.
We continued to talk and laugh, getting to know each other and surprisingly we had a lot in common. It wasn't until Eric had pointed out the time, we had been talking for two hours.
Time skip Eric P.O.V
"where the fuck is she?" Eric mumbled in annoyance entering the cafeteria, his eyes landed on Four, who was seated by the table alone. Somehow you and Four became best friends forcing him to tolerate Four.
Huffing, Eric approached the table Four was seated at. "what do you want Eric? I thought you were tired of me after you kicked me out of the training session earlier."
"That's because you disobeyed my orders by interrupting my session, with that being said have you seen my wife", Eric said barely looking at Four.
It's weird how fast Eric's life changed since he got married. He never imagined getting married but never thought he could enjoy being someone's husband. He usually calls you by your name but for some reason, the word wife feels good to say especially if it's you. There was no doubt in his mind that you were the best thing to ever happen to him, his everything.
"no, I haven't seen Y/n", Four said in a neutral voice.
Eric left after Four's reply stomping out of the canteen, making sure to brush a few weak initiates out of his way.
Eric thought not only were born with a sharp Erudite mind but a witty tongue, but you were also beautiful.
With steady steps, Eric quickly made his way down the corridors, a hard look on his face trying to remember where you were. With a slight grin, he thought back to last night when you two shared a steamy shower under the moonlight.
Eric was truly happy to see your face every morning when waking up. He was lucky to be your husband, to have in-depth conversations with you about whatever, to please you in every way possible, to read to you every night in bed, and then talk about the book.
Then he hurriedly walked towards the library, Eric could not help but smile when seeing your figure which appeared in the doorway of the library, your nose stuck in the book.
Eric stood in the shadows, watching your figure walk right past him. He looks at you for a second before looking down at the book, smiling slightly as he sees you are reading one of his favorite books " The Tale of Two Cities". Dauntless people did not read, especially not good novels but back in Erudite, he was aware this book was popular.
Emerging slowly out of the shadows, Eric firmly gripped your waist from behind, gently kissing your cheek. Before he knew a book came crashing down on his cheek, hard. As you swung around getting ready to punch doing the exact thing Eric had trained you to do.
"Eric Coulter, you dummy", you shouted at him before letting out a giggle as you noticed his faint red color cheek.
Meeting your eyes, Eric let out a laugh while rubbing his cheek. "I have been looking everywhere for you Cara Mia, I didn't think you were here after you completely emptied to library yesterday.
"well I was looking for this book, so I came back", You told him kissing red cheek. When you married Eric it was like a dream, already been a year. Even though it was an arranged marriage it was purely all love.
His lips gently brushed against yours, memorizing the feeling of your lips against his before he let go," You're my wife, my everything. My world, I don't know what I'd do without you. Let me show how much I appreciate you, Cara Mia".

WORDS: 3K
A/N: it took me a lil longer than expected to finish this draft with my vacation and wanting to write some action worth-something scene, hopefully you'll enjoy it. thanks for reading if you do, it's always so kind and appriciated.
Tumblr media
Up until the point when you noticed you'd hit a wall, you kept moving forward toward the path on the left. There was nowhere to go on the side of the road and instead of walking all the way back you realized you could climb a tree, shorten the journey, and perhaps get a better view of the field. You tried to climb the tree on your side after securing the rifle with the safety and tucking it under your jeans for protection when you saw on the opposite side, a girl waiting for you. If you moved quickly, you could take advantage of the fact that she was on her back. But then you remembered, the other boy didn't shoot you from the back and although no one had told you that you couldn't do it, it didn't seem fair. You descended a few steps to gather your thoughts. Additionally, if it wasn't necessary, you didn't want to have to shoot and hurt your comrades. And then you had an idea.
You slowly ascended to the highest gap while making minimal noise. You guessed she wasn't prepared for you to come at her from above. Before she realized, you had to move quickly, but silently enough to avoid making a sound. You managed to climb up and up a branch even though your pulse was racing and sweat was pouring down your forehead. Your opponent heard the noise you made, but it was already too late. You let yourself fall when you were on top of her. To her horror, you fell on top of her, seized her rifle, and hurled it to the right, the dead end, leaving her defenseless.
She punched the air to try to get you off of her, but you had all your weight on her, and you swiftly immobilized her by holding and twisting her wrists till she caught one of her legs, yelling surrendering to the pain as you forced her to stoop down. You assumed that was enough. As you let go of her and sent her on her way, you warned her, "No false attacks, huh," releasing the safety on your handgun and picking it up once more to continue forward.
A sensor that you activated caused a few stones to fall on you, but you swiftly fired at the target to deflect them before rapidly turning around. Your body was tense, you were having trouble controlling your breathing, and you had no idea what was ahead. Although you passed two companions quite graciously, you were certain that eventually something would force you to stop. Moving forward was challenging as you navigated the increasingly lush shrubs along the trail. You fell because you unknowingly hooked your foot on a branch, which was your saving grace. If you had continued to stand, someone would have shot you. You could see Alvin approaching you from the other path as he ran from the ground. You yelled, "You bastard," as you raised your arms to kick Alvin as he drew nearer. However, he avoided the attack.
You quickly got up, your weapon had been left on the ground. Big mistake. But he had his gun hanging and you screamed as you took advantage of that opportunity and attacked him by punching him in the stomach. You managed to shove him back, but you weren't powerful enough to prevent Alvin from backing down so quickly. You received a solid punch to the face from his counterattack, which fortunately hadn't yet brought down in blood. You backed down trying to gain ground, trying to think but he hurled himself on you again, knocking you to the ground and piling all of his weight on top of you.
He'd start hitting you and at least you were thankful he hadn't shot you yet, even though you've never been given a serious beating more bearable than being shot. While you would be destroyed by a shot, you may still mount a counterattack with punches. He wasn't the biggest or strongest boy in the bunch, but you attempted everything you could to get up and pull him off of you, without success.
It wasn't until you were struck, him pushing and twisting your right arm, and smashing your face into the ground, that you noticed a large branch and tried to reached out with all your strength to only brush against it. You kept desperately trying, with him being so focused on keeping you down that he didn't seem to notice. Good. Because you finally ended up graving it and with the element of surprise, you took power from a place where you had never done it before and hit him. His astonishment afforded you a few seconds to release your other hand and punch him in the neck with your right hand as you pushed him out with all of your force, albeit it wasn't strong enough to inflict more harm than any other blow but it worked nonetheless.
He began to lean forward with his hands on your sides. You saw the ideal moment to knee him in his crotch, causing him to double over in pain to the right. You had just established yourself as the victor of the fight on top of him as he cursed you. You shrieked with adrenaline, "Don't you dare shoot me from behind again, you coward." even though you had no idea what you were saying.
After so many comings and goings and blows, you both took a moment to catch your breath and regain awareness while the world continued to spin. When you realized this, Alvin was covered with a few drips of blood. You groaned as you found a good bruise on your forehead and a minor cut caused by a piece of stone that had bled somewhat. "Go ahead, keep going," you heard Four command from outside the circuit. As you sighed. Even your current location and purpose were forgotten. You stood up and assisted in raising Alvin. "Off the field, huh." you said as you followed behind him to make sure he was walking away "Yeah, goddammit Y/M, who would have told us, you'll see when I recover I'll gladly pay you back for this" he said with a mischievous smile but with the tone you knew it was going in good spirits.
You took a deep breath and kept walking, noticing the curvature of the circuit, you were finally turning around, more than half was already past and you didn't know how you were going to be able to hold the other half. You were very tired, your head ached from the blow and you only gave thanks to the great layer of trees that protected you from direct sunlight. You kept dragging your feet while trying to calm down and seek encouragement where you could. You hit some structures with a target and you kept walking praying not to find anyone else along the way. But obviously, it couldn't be all that easy.
"Hello, hello" you heard with a tinkle and quickly your first instinct was to hide behind a tree. "Oh, are you afraid of me?" Rose scoffed. "C'mon woman, I'm just going to shoot you" you heard it coming but you had no idea where. You were very tired and you ran out of ideas so you recycled the last one, you tried to climb the tree. You hadn't made much progress when you located Rose to your left and at the last second you moved her hand away from her and hiding her face to the other side of her when she saw her intention to shoot from her. The shot grazed you landing right next to your head but missed you. What a mania everyone had with shooting you. You had stayed still and that had been a mistake, she was running up towards you and as you jumped out she grabbed your shirt, pulling you in.
She quickly took you between her shoulder and armpit and gave you a few punches into the stomach. And even though you were pretty tired you mange to slip through and punch her back on her face pushing her, finally making her fall and with these few seconds of advantage you ran in the opposite direction to hide behind the bushes, hoping to escape her in order to avoid a fight you knew you could easily lose. "If you've come this far, I'm sure you don't fight so badly, have courage, come on" she provoked you while you tried to buy time crawling through the undergrowth, introducing yourself into another variation of the path that being so busy looking ahead, you didn't look ahead where. There was a wall that blocked the way. You leaned, trying to camouflage yourself in the undergrowth, and looked at how many bullets were left, four. You had to aim well. "Oh seriously, you've got yourself into a dead end, what a bad luck." Rose approached as she shot into the void between the brush and trees.
You took advantage of when she looked up to shoot, aiming at a leg but the noise of the cap gave you away and she moved avoiding the shot. You ran out of your hiding place, firing once more but missing. However, she did end up giving you the hairs in her ribs. You doubled over in pain immediately, "Fuck" you exclaimed as you writhed but you fired again, almost without strength, hitting the tibia of her right leg. "Fuck" you heard Rose squeal as she went cold and you took the dart out of her relieving yourself a bit. You dragged yourself towards her, taking advantage of the fact that she was pulling herself in front of her to grab her leg to throw her to the ground and thus avoid a bigger confrontation. Rose fell back cursing you again. She had dropped her gun and you caught it with her other hand while pointing both of yours at her. "If you move I'll shoot you again" you gasped.
Everything was going very fast, when you were standing the pain seemed to increase, that you had him closer, your vision blurred a little between the pain and the exhaustion and you were sure that if Rose wasn't writhing in pain and pushed you with a Just finger and without effort you would fall exhausted. But luckily, she was worse. "You win, you win, fuck, my leg" Rose moaned as she squirmed out of her and you quickly pulled the dart out of her leg. "How much more is there to fuck" you complained with a squeal clearly for Four to assist you but no one answered you and you got up with both weapons in hand returning your steps to the main path to wish to find the exit once and for all. You looked at Rose's gun and it had more bullets than yours so you switched as you walked forward again, your free hand resting on your ribs giving pressure as if that would ease the pain.
You hit a couple of more mobile targets that you found indicating the path to follow even though you didn't hit any, you could almost see blurry from exhaustion. And finally you saw it, the exit with a fixed objective to hit. You started to aim and you pulled the trigger, but someone threw you to the ground attacking you from the side and you couldn't hit it. "Fuck not again" you moaned, you tried to counterattack as much as possible but they had your arms immobilized. It was Eric. Completely rigid looking down on you. "Come on, you've come this far and you're going to give up now? A Dauntless never gives up, are you really going to stop now?" he told you, looking into your eyes and you knew that this was the moment. Here you had to prove your worth but how to do it when you couldn't even control your breathing or your heartbeat that were all concentrated on your ribs, still raging with pain. You grunted as you tried to get rid of Eric's pressure on top of you kicking with your knees in his back but you didn't even see a wink of pain on his face.
Think, think, think, dammit. "Too bad this wasn't in your book either" He commented with a mischievous look before starting to punch you in the face and use your arms to cover yourself and avoid damage. Well, it's unfair that you give me a fucking fighting class without even teaching me how to defend myself. The class the other day was all kicking and hooking and not the joint fight dance. You tried to lift your hips off the ground. You tried to hit him back hitting him in the jaw and neck while he hit you, and although it wasn't very effective, you started hitting him repeatedly until you saw that he was staggering a bit and instinctively took advantage by moving his hips forward, making him miss a bit. His balance was little, enough so that with his arms he supported himself at your sides and you, using force on his shoulders, slid out from under him, lifting you off the ground and moving a few steps away while Eric got up from the ground stroking his neck. You supposed that nobody was made of iron but you knew that this was lost. He was not going to lose against you no matter how lucky you were.
You doubted too much, you didn't know what movement to make, you tried to make some of the shots that Four had taught you the day before but what could you do when the opponent saw them coming before you even knew what step to make? Every blow you tried to make he stopped you, in one of those stops instead of simply stopping the blow, he grabbed your wrist and turned your arm, placing himself behind you. Quickly wrapping his right arm around your neck and with his left he bent it, resting the palm of his hand on your neck, he was strangling your neck. Just when the world no longer gave you spin, he made sure that you would return to that state. You tried to grab onto his arms pulling to the sides but obviously, you didn't have his strength. He was putting too much pressure and you didn't know how to get rid of him.
No matter how hard you tried, he held you from behind and you couldn't get there. You tried to force with his, with your hands clinging to his arm trying to lessen the pressure and moving to the sides trying to turn, get some kind of advantage or solution. You tried to hit him with your elbow moving to the side but you didn't get there, just as you moved to the side he followed you with the movement of his body. You began to weaken and he noticed it. Your knees buckled and he took the opportunity to finish pushing you to the ground and he kicked you in the stomach a couple of times.
"And this is the best you know how to do?" Eric said spitting on the ground. "It's fucking pathetic, can't imagine how bad were your teammates that you were able to pass through" he said as he knelt down, giving you a couple more blows to your face against the ground. You wanted to answer him, you wanted to be able to attack him and win but your world was spinning and you were defenseless, only a roar of broken despair came out. You noticed how something fell from your nose and you raised your hand to see that you were bleeding. Between Alvin's blows and now Eric's, you didn't know how you still hadn't lost consciousness.
And as if that were not enough, Eric took his gun and shot you. You writhed in pain again, turning your back on Eric, you didn't understand what that shot was coming from now. You didn't even know where your gun had fallen, you didn't even remember that was a choice. There was no reason to shoot you now, you were reduced and defenseless, it was obvious that he had won, why cause you more pain without need? "Because of this, we have to have an elimination process, you need to put in a lot more effort if you want to earn the right to stay. I'm not sure if you anticipated that you would select Dauntless and become the tough person you've always wanted to be, but we have work to do here, we need to train you to be our next protectors, so don't make us lose any more time." he stated as he began to walk away but turned to look at you one last time "and don't you dare take that bullet out until we arrive" he said as he began to walk away. You looked at him and sighed out of pain, those words echoed in your head all the way, he misunderstood you, you knew this wouldn't be easy and you knew you could offer so much more if they let you.
As you watched him frustrated, your thoughts spinning around you recalled the dummy you had to shoot, the last one. You didn't win the fight but you needed to end this circuit right at least. You quickly located your gun on the ground and crawled while you picked it up and aimed shooting and hitting the nail, thank god because Eric was going towards the exit, and he had the mannequin diagonally in front of him, and you knew he had seen it. He stopped and turned to see you for a few seconds, he was too far away, the sun covered his reflection, but he turned around and left without saying anything to you.
"Four and I are leaving, wait five minutes and manage to find your way back" he threatened while four finished collecting the weapons and material brought. You were still on the ground, trying unsuccessfully to get up in raging pain as Milan and Winter entered the circuit. "You've got balls, who would have thought" Milan told you as he and Winter wrapped their arms around you helping you get up. "Come on, let's get you to the nursing" she said as the three of you began to slowly get back to the compound.
