The queen stands tall, unfazed by his cold presence.

"A mother must answer the call of her distressed child."

She turns to the princess and retrieves the fae fox back into her embrace.

"Surely, as a caring and loving father, you understand such a need for rush to aid one's child when they are so cruelly harmed."

Fire, pure and hot, can be seen under her veil where her eyes would be.

"We had an agreement."

A rumbling is heard above them. Lightening of purples and reds flashes within the dark clouds. Threatening to crash down as the mighty fae continues to speak.

"And your husbands ignored them. Treated my child as an animal and wanted to turn her into a pet."

The rest of the fae becomes agitated, growling in response to their queen mother words. But none of it is used towards the princess. For even Eclipse knows how much they all love and respect her, and how they would never harm one they have titled Friend of the Fae.

He has seen how they would visit her and play with her with their silly little harmless tricks. He recalls fond memories of how she used to chase them when she was his little girl in this very garden. How adorable and happy she was in those long ago days.

Eclipse sighs, pinching the bridge of his nose, “I assure you I know VERY well how it feels to hear your child suffer. And know more than you EVER will, your majesty.”

He tilts his head and folds his lower two hands behind his back while crossing the upper pair over his chest. “And rest assured I will discuss this with both my husbands. But you must also educate yourself dear children about MY empire’s side of the agreement.”

He inspects his talons, “it’s a two way street, dearest.”

So many Novel Athy lovers complain about how people hate on Novel Athy because she’s selfish, meanwhile I hate Lee Jihye because she dehumanizes people around her and that skews her perception of others and the situations she’s in, all while inheriting Claude’s tendency of preferring her image of [other people] rather than trying to acknowledge the real [them].

It took her eighteen years to realize she generalizes the people around her as one-dimensional characters instead of human beings (seen passively through how she treats the original cast of LP, and people she sees as mob characters like nameless and faceless nobles and girls she invites to her OWN parties), but she doesn’t dwell on or try to change that part of her, or how she treats them.

I'm thinking about the other female characters who might offer maternal wisdom and the only one I can think of is the healer who helps you after the fainting spell/Atses' Heart incident 👀😅 So I suppose not. But I mean, if you're fine with politically motivated and possibly stab-you-in-the-back maternal figures, there's always Sovereign Amera and Princess Lamahu 😆

Thunder can be heard overhead, a mother's wrath ready to be unleashed. Seeing one of her children in such a state was enough for her to bring the lightning down upon the castle.

But she knows this princess well. For she is the true friend of the fae.

She lifts her hands that look as delicate as the new fallen show on the mountain tops, and she gentle took her child into her arms.

"My poor little kit. Such fate should not have fallen on you in such a manner."

The queen looks at the princess, eyes soften as she looks upon who she has considered one of her honorary daughters.

"Thank you, friend of the fae, for giving my child your mana. Your generous heart is always remembered by the fae and shall be rewarded in the near future. "

She straightens, holding her child close to her heart. The queen looks down at the knight, her own regal tone portraying her demeanor.

"I am not pleased on how all of this was conducted and demand that I speak with your husband, the esteemed Emperor Eclipse of the Celestial family. For there has been a breech in the treaty that must be brought to his attention. And I would like for this manner to be done as quickly as possible. Especially if you wish for our kingdoms to continue trade and peace."

Sun’s eye twitches and his grip on the hilt of his sword tightens. “I—,”

“Of course! Your majesty—,” the Princess shoots Sun a pointed look. “—I’ll talk to Emperor Eclipse myself.”

Sun arches a brow, “really? You~?”

“Yes.” She hisses

“Hmm…” Sun sheathed his saber and bows. “Then I shall inform him so. It was an honor to see you again, your highness.”

The princess growls, eyes burning into the back of his head as he heads back into the palace.

Land 1 done!

Without crossing the bridge to get rekt'd by the final boss and trigger a bad ending, of course :p

I know the game puts more emphasis on gameplay than on characters, unlike, say, FE 8x2, but damn if every little situation you recruit random characters makes me think of past FE events in different titles and it just... fits? Somehow?

Like, evil empire has trouble conquering a party of Cornia, but behold! A mysterious plague pops up, that is totally not tied to the shady as fuck necromancer who works with the evil empire and says it'd be annoying if people find a cure.

So we have some guy and his army of cleric wearing plague doctor masks trying to find a cure by, uh, experimenting/working on people who already caught the plague, even accepting to work with the evil empire because curing the plague is more important, right?

Ends justify means yadda yadda... save for the part I earlier mentionned, that it is heavily implied the evil empire is the one who created that plague to begin with!

Now, imagine in a FE game if, in the background, we had to rescue people or hear about people being afflicted by a strange and unknown disease... and if that disease was engineered by people for a further motive...

8x2? Nah.

We also have quests where people are fighting for the evil empire who is occupying their land because they believe as long as they obey their people won't be put to the sword...

Not!Cyril fighting against bandits, finding and helping a witch fend off people who are trying to "catch her" - we even get a flimsy excuse for a bikini attire in the process and an answer to the "why do i use spells to rejuvenate myself in a sexy body? It's because I won't be able to move as fast as I can now if I was a crone" other flimsy excuse, etc etc.

Now it's time to enter the land of fucked up siblings relationship (sure Virginia is Alain's cousin - who looks like his mom - and can end up with him, but this is not the kind of Jugdralian stuff I had in mind) and let me tell you, all those plot bunnies I had in Jugdral about Lester believing he was going to become Lord of Jungby all of his life, only to have his role/throne snatched before his eyes by a bum who's apparently his cousin and can use the legendary shiny bow of legend is... basically Drakengard (Drakenhold in english?), but up to eleven.

Ah, and it wouldn't be a post from me if I don't find a way to rant about the localisation lol

Josef, upon meeting Virginia, basically goes in the audio "it's been a long time since I last saw you". In the english version?

Like what are you implying Josef, she wasn't a princess when you saw her last time or didn't have the "standing" fit for a princess?

Besides, I hope the release of the october book won't blow a hole in the Josef's "you were a teenager when we last met" by releasing character ages, but that's not really that important.

Well, in the JP audio, he calls her with the "hime" suffix, showing as much deference as Josef, who is a retainer of the royal family. Virginia doesn't use any suffix because that's her, but in Alain's various support convos, we learn that he had to learn and to behave like a proper noble after escaping from his castle 7 years ago, and all this noble/formal stuff is something he doesn't use with his commoner friends.

Ergo, this minor thing here is important, especially in the Drakengard themes : siblings/relatives used to be close, but reuniting after a long period of time or several life changing events, they are changed and even if they want and try to, cannot be as close as they once were.
