Say what you will about Qui-Gon - and fandom definitely has a lot to say about him, most of it unfounded by the source material and exaggerated as all hell based on misinformation and a desire for Obi-Wan whump - but if you look at the actual books and the movie without bad faith blinders on, there's no denying that he loves Obi-Wan so very much. He's pretty bad at outright saying it, and Obi-Wan is insecure enough that he often tends to assume the worst, so there's plenty of miscommunication between them especially at first, but Qui-Gon does love him. A lot. And tries to be better for him, to work past the untreated trauma that Xanatos gave him.

He's obviously not prefect, and quite often it's like "please, just talk to each other! It'd clear up so much so fast!", but this trend of Qui-Gon being cold and dismissive of Obi-Wan is just objectively wrong. I know you've never read the books, and am unsure if you've watched The Phantom Menace, but just. The look he gives Obi-Wan as he's dying, so full of love and affection as he tenderly brushes his cheek as his last action. The way he talks about Obi-Wan in the books, awkward and fumbling and scared of screwing things up but still so willing to try, because Obi-Wan is worth it to him. Whatever faults he has, however he's screwed up, the one thing he did not do was fail to wholeheartedly love Obi-Wan.

And personally I find that makes Obi-Wan's heartbreak over losing Qui-Gon even more impactful. Sure it's sad if he's mourning someone who didn't care back, but to lose someone who was basically his parent and who genuinely loved and cared for him? To have him die in his arms and, judging by the look on his face, open up the training bond to send him all the love that he didn't have the breath to say? It would have been gutting. That kind of loss is much more devastating (to me, at least). And given some of the adopted parent-child feelings you've given Shisui in the past, I feel like it'd be more interesting to you too? Might be off the mark on that though, in which case, sorry for the unprompted... character assessment? Or whatever this is. Midnight thoughts I thought you might be interested and wanted to share.

I picked 'critical' instead of 'bashing' or even any of the 'bad parent'/'A+ parenting' tags because I'm deffo not gonna just toss in a load of salt about qui-gon being a useless cold bastard haha, no it's more like you said about the sheer lack of communication and also the frankly terrible rollercoaster of Obi-wan's padawan years. I agree that there was a great deal of love and care between Qui-gon and Obi-wan but they're a classic case of the problems in Yoda's damned lineage... I genuinely think it would kill them all, on the damned SPOT, to try and say the word "love" aloud

Qui-Gon is just.... his relationship with Obi-wan just had So. Many. Moments. And you want to just... just say sorry, say that he's doing well, say that you're trying, say that you trust him and you're proud and you'll be there. Oh, you can't because that's attachment? Hate to break it to you, IDIOTS, but avoiding saying the words that match the fucking actions - as if the Darkside is waiting to pounce from above - is the same as covering your face and thinking you'll win at hide-and-seek.... deluded!

ANYWAY sorry I got a bit passionate there, I like to pick up canon's nonsense ideas about emotional constipation, nod sagely, and then toss them in a wood chipper :)

There won't be qui-gon bashing - just judging, which no one is safe from - since I can't even commit to bashing Kylo Ren and him I really do hate 😂

anyone remember how before TotK came out there were lots of comparisons/parallels drawn between Link and Finn from Adventure Time, because of the arm loss? I sure do! there was even fanart of some LOZ characters as AT characters, including TotK Link, by a storyboarder from the show. it was really cool, and that art in particular kickstarted my inspiration for making my own AT AU in my fanfics, and I had a lot of fun with that (still want to do more with it).

and then the game came out, and... the ending took back Link's arm loss. it took it back. and I just. ffs. AT fucking committed to that shit, yo. they faked us out at first, and I was annoyed at the time, but then it became a truly permanent arm loss like they'd been foreshadowing for literal years at that point, and PB made him a cool prosthetic with multiple functions (one of which led to a rather dark moment at the end of a chilling and well-written episode), and that... that was it. that's how they ended the story, with Finn an amputee and a hero. disabled rep for all the disabled kids and teens and adults watching the show. I loved it. I still do. god that show was so well-written.

and that just makes TotK chickening out and tossing aside Link's disability--the way so many other works of fiction have--all the more bitter. also, like, come on!!! we ALL know Purah and/or Robbie would've made him SUCH a cool prosthetic arm just like PB did for Finn!!! why couldn't we have that? we were robbed in so many ways! ugh. I'm so, SO cranky about this.

Adventure Time also would've committed to Zelda staying a dragon, for that matter. don't believe me? look what happened to Betty.

Finding Santana

New Fic. Multi-chapter. Up on FF.Net Here's chapter 1 - I uploaded all chapters but FF is being slow to post them all. The fic is complete and I have (at least attempted to) posted all 8 chapters.

A/N Mostly AU. I have no idea where it came from and it totally doesn't feel like it's in character for Santana. Just a "what if Santana had a moment of clarity and self-awareness in S2 and decided to examine it?"

Pretty much a departure from my normal stuff.

Chapter 1: Friday – February 10th

Santana sat in the choir room watching all the "happy" couples. She was the hottest bitch in the school (well, after Brittany) and she was alone with Valentine's Day right around the corner. She glanced at Brittany and Artie and felt her chest ache. Sam and Quinn were so freaking cute it made her want to vomit. And then there was Puck. And … Zizes? What the hell did that rhino have … Santana's thoughts trailed off.

Why was she such a bitch? Zizes never did anything to her except start seeing Puck … who Santana didn't really want anyway. And didn't Quinn deserve to be happy after all the shit she went through last year? And Brittany … no, she couldn't let herself think about Brittany … but …

Santana sighed. She was tired. It was exhausting keeping up her HBIC reputation. She was tired of being a bitch. She was tired of being angry. She was angry all the time and it was exhausting. She was tired of being sad and lonely and judgmental. She was tired of being SANTANA LOPEZ … she just wanted to be Santana – whoever that was. She was just … tired.

Just then Finn walked in and Santana saw the look he and Quinn exchanged. Something inside her snapped. Oh, hell no. HELL NO! She got up and grabbed Quinn's arm.

"We need to talk."

"Santana, let go of me!"

Santana ignored her protests and dragged Quinn into the hallway.

"What the hell, Santana?"

"No, that's my question. What the HELL are you doing with Finn? Whatever it is … stop. Just stop." Santana looked at the other blonde she used to call her best friend. "Look. We used to be best friends. Then you had a baby with my then boyfriend and I walked away. I was hurt and angry and I know I don't do the whole 'feelings' thing but, yeah, I was hurt and angry at you. Puck's a manwhore, I expected it from him. But you … you were supposed to be my friend, my BEST friend, yanno? I'm over it. I really am. Sammy seems like a nice guy. Why are you trying to screw it up with FINN?" Santana stared at Quinn like she had two heads.

"Dammit, Quinn!" Santana was almost yelling, losing the battle to hold back her anger. "You're better than Finn Hudson. You're better than Lima. Finn is a Lima loser. He's never getting out. You're more than your pretty face. You're damn special. You're smart and you can get out of this hellhole."

She took a deep breath and lowered her voice. "Don't let Finn drag you back here. You're better than a real estate license and a husband who drinks too much and a bunch of snot-nosed brats. You're better than Finn. And, honestly? You deserve more than Finn … the man-child who can't make up his mind if he wants you or Berry or wants to play the field because he's a winning quarterback right now." Santana rolled her eyes.

She shook her head and took a deep breath to stop the anger from spewing forth again. "I don't know if you're thinking about prom queen and how with Finn you're a shoe-in or whatever but … it's not worth it. The women who think about how they won prom queen and were head cheerleader and so popular are the women who peak in high school and all they have is their memories of their 'glory days'. That's not you. In five years you won't care if you won it or not because you're not going to peak in high school, Quinn. Don't be stupid. Finn's not worth it." With that, Santana hugged Quinn fiercely – much to the surprise of the blonde – and whispered, "I love you, Quinn. Don't sell yourself so short." Before walking off down the hall and out of the building.

Santana was tired and it was the kind of tired that a good night's sleep wouldn't fix.

Quinn gaped at the back of the retreating Latina. What had just happened? That looked a lot like Santana but … when the hell did Santana start looking out for other people instead of exploiting their weaknesses? Still, she had to admit, Santana made a lot of sense. Did she really want to be stuck in Lima for the rest of her life? Married to Finn? A knot formed in the pit of her stomach as she realized Santana was right. She was better than Finn. And Sam was a nice guy. She shook her head and went back into the choir room.

She sat down next to Sam and put her head on his shoulder.

"Everything okay?" he asked.

"We'll talk later," she smiled at him and he nodded.

Mr. Schue walked in and clapped his hands. "Okay, time to start planning a set list for Regionals! Suggestions?" He frowned. "Where's Santana?"

"I don't think she was feeling well, Mr. Schue," Quinn answered him. "She was acting a little weird and then she just … left." Quinn could feel Brittany staring at her but didn't look.

"Okay, well, let's hope she feels better soon."

With that discussion turned to possibilities for Regionals. Quinn knew Brittany wanted to know what was going on but, for the life of her, Quinn had no idea.

Santana pulled her Jeep into the garage and sat there for a minute trying to figure out where her head was. She couldn't. There were feelings. Feelings she really didn't want to feel or even think about. She sighed heavily and headed into the house. Her parents were at some conference thing for a month in �� somewhere Santana didn't care about. She was on her own. Again. It had been commonplace since she was twelve. That's when they stopped leaving her at her abuela's. She made a box of macaroni and cheese and ate it over the sink, did the dishes, and headed downstairs to her room.

Once there, she changed into a pair of sweats and an over-sized hoodie. Probably one of Brittany's. She checked to make sure her phone was off and dropped it on her nightstand, went into the en suite bathroom and washed her face and took out her contacts. Back in her room, she closed the curtains, grabbed her noise canceling headphones, and turned off the lights. Lying on her back, headphones on, it was almost like sensory deprivation if not for the ambient light filtering through the gauze-like curtains.

She stared at the ceiling forcing herself to think. To feel. She felt the pressure build in her chest until, finally, a sob broke free and she rolled onto her side; her knees folded up to her chest, arms locked around them. She lost the headphones as she rocked herself, sobbing uncontrollably. It may have been minutes or hours but, eventually, the sobs slowed and became sniffles and hiccups. She let go of her knees and stretched her legs out, readjusted the headphones, pulled her comforter over her, and let herself fall asleep.

When Santana woke up she had no idea what time it was. It was dark but not dark dark. She didn't want to turn on her phone to find out the time. She didn't want to get up. She sighed and realized that maybe an old-fashioned alarm clock might not be a bad thing. She rolled back onto her back and forced herself to think more clearly now that she had released some of those pent up emotions.

She needed a break. Away from … everyone. She couldn't afford to skip school for the next few weeks. Slowly, she came up with a plan. It wasn't a particularly good plan but, with a little bit of luck and some help from her teachers, it might work for a little while. She needed to figure out who she was. Who she wanted to be. Instead of being who she pretended to be; who people expected her to be and who she let them think she was. She couldn't do that if everyone was watching her, judging her, waiting for her to fall. She needed time to make sure of herself. She convinced herself this would work. Time away. SANTANA LOPEZ needed to disappear so Santana could figure out who exactly she was and who she wanted to be. With that thought, she closed her eyes and fell into an exhausted, deep, dreamless sleep.

It's on my to read list and i can't wait to read it!!!

I can see Sango as Finn (even if I think Sango has more depth as a character compared to Finn that unfortunately has the depth of a puddle imo) and Miroku is a flirt like Poe so yesss!

honestly i had to google who dathan and miramir were...i didn't even know that disney gave rey's parents names, after tros i gave up on sw stuff. i don't know about their story or how they came to be an item and i can hardly remember why they left rey on jakku but in my mind they were shitty parents. on the contrary, i believe that if Izayoi and Toga had had the opportunity they wouldn't have abandoned their son, they would've raised him against all adversity.

As for Naraku, i think grandpa Palpie fits better on the role, you know the evil guy that sems impossible to annihilate and all that stuff.

Stormpilot + Modern Military AU (Fic Linked)

Poe watches vacantly as the cool, amber liquid from his flask disappears into the steaming cup in front of him. Watching it swirling and blending into its black depths so no one’s the wiser that his breakfast is anything but wholesome feels almost too close for comfort, but what else is new? The smell of coffee and booze is calming nonetheless as he tips it until the last drop drips lazily into the cup with a plop, and then tucks the flask back into his jacket pocket. Reaching for a straw, he stirs the familiar concoction with a sigh, when he hears a surprised chuckle from behind him.

“You know you’re at a coffee shop, right?”

Okay, almost no one is the wiser then.

He glances back to see a man, about 10 years younger than him, with dark skin and a friendly face. He’s wearing an Air Force flight suit, arms crossed behind him casually as he waits for his own coffee order at the counter. Poe’s lips quirk into a bit of a smile when the younger man grins at him, and he shrugs.

“Could use a little pick-me-up. We all need one sometime, eh-” he pauses to look at the patch on the left side of the man’s chest. “Senior Airman Storm? Cool name."

Han/Leia, E (for chapter 1 and 2 sexytimes), multi-chapter ESB AU that is the epitome of “crack taken seriously.” Leia had a perfect plan for one night of passion to get Han (and her feelings for him) out of her system, before he had to leave. Unwittingly producing a potential host for a Sith lord was definitely NOT part of the plan. In chapter 2, Leia and Han let their friends in on her rapid pregnancy, Han confronts his feelings, and Leia realizes something else about herself. In chapter 3, with the hours ticking down on her pregnancy, Leia and Han have some decisions to make, but there aren’t a lot of good choices available, while Luke has found a meteor that might be worth checking out…

Mess me up, no one does it better (read on AO3 / read on FF). Han/Leia, E, one-shot, set on Hoth (and in the Falcon) pre-ESB. Waiting with Han to be debriefed after a risky (but successful) mission, Leia can't help but be distracted by thoughts of the encounter that she has no intention of including in the mission report.

2. Jester Mereel would've smacked Jango into the stratosphere for participating in the creation of the clones - and I stand by this.

3. Finn should've been a Jedi, and found Luke with Rey. His entire canon storyline should've belonged to Rose.

i’ll be honest - i’m not a huge maul fan, so i don’t feel like the expert. but i tend to agree with you. i don’t read much basically any maul fanfic, but i imagine the best of it would involve tragedy and a lot of “if only” (excluding aus where he isn’t raised as a sith, but then he’s basically a whole different guy). but as he is in canon? he literally survives bc of his rage, and i imagine by the time we meet him in tcw (and even tpm), he would probably die without it. so yes, firm agree.

ahhhh i go back and forth! it depends on your jaster interpretation i think (and mine changes often, to be fair). bc at his core jaster is a man who sees abandoned children and takes them in, and doesn’t believe in forcibly spreading mandalorian culture - so i do tend to lean towards agree on this. i think he’d be very sad to see that jango lost his way, and was willing to force these people to follow in his footsteps without so much as an attempt at kinship or community. yet another reason i leaned toward an au where jango did care about the clones haha.

BAD. finn was the most compelling character in tfa and they just. they threw him away. and i’ve never thought about rose having finn’s canon role but i think with a few tweaks it could be so fucking sick! i feel like they would be cool parallel revolutionaries - rose finding people similar to her and her sister, whose families have been hurt by the first order, and finn leading a stormtrooper uprising (like in that one deleted scene).

I updated the ff list I made a few months ago. As before, if anyone has any suggestions to add, I’m all ears. I divided the stories into three categories (Post-ending, AUs and Missing Moments) and all the ffs on this list are either completed or still actively updated.

POST-ENDING

Blood Brothers: To Puerto Lobos - And Beyond! by SerratedCucumber, in progress. It starts as the brothers break into Mexico and follows them as they try to build a life for themselves. I swear that I hear Gonzalo and Roman every time that Sean or Daniel say something: the dialogue is that good. 11,000 words for now.

Lone Wolf: The One You Feed by zeldanerdster, in progress. This work follows the "Lone Wolf" path immediately after events unfold at the border. Following that, it will chronicle Daniel's experiences for as far as they take him in an effort to reconcile the various open-ended resolutions of Life is Strange 2. Because LW didn’t break our hearts enough. 20,500 words for now. Lone Superwolf by Dreamprism, in progress. The ff begins with Sean’s death at the border and aims to show how Daniel got from the car to the “six years later” scene. The fanfic is written from the perspective of Daniel Diaz, similar to how Sean shares his internal thoughts with the player throughout Life is Strange 2. 17,000 words for now.

Parting Ways: After by koldtbold, one-shot. Sean gets to Mexico, Daniel doesn’t. Sean has a lot to do and think about. What I love about this story is that there’s much bitter and little sweet, but like in the game there’s an undercurrent of optimism, a feeling that tomorrow can still turn into a better day. 6,000 words. When There’s Nowhere Else to Run, by Autumnyte, in progress. It begins right after Daniel yeets himself from the car and follows Sean as he tries to build a life for himself in Puerto Lobos. I told Autumnyte that this story feels like a blanket: it’s warm and comfortable. No matter what issues Sean has to deal with, there is a pervasive undertone of "tomorrow will be better" that I think really captures the spirit of the game. He is done running, and he can now start to look to the future with hope. 31,000 words for now.

Redemption:

The Bravest Wolf in the World by RoodAwakening, 2 chapters left. Ask anyone for reading suggestions, and they’ll inevitably point you to this story, for a reason. Sean finds out he can use his sketches to time-travel, much like Max did with her photos, prevents Esteban’s death, and has to deal with the consequences as he tries to navigate the new life he made for himself. Wonderful characters, a realistic depiction of trauma, and golden dialogue. I love this Sean, I love the people in his life, I love his interactions with all the characters. 160,000 words (!) for now. A Howl in the Night by Bracco, one-shot. Sean is in prison, and Daniel is free: it’s everything that Sean had wanted when he surrendered. That means he can be happy… right? 28,500 words. Tomorrow's Horizon by AlariOdonell, in progress. A mysterious stranger recruits a post-bay Max Caulfield with the promise to bring Chloe back to life and to right a few wrongs along the way, like those suffered by two brothers. I am very partial to this story because it ticks every box in my list of narrative kinks: a well-written OC, an incoming threat, superpowers, misfits teaming up, IC characters, action and fuzzy feelings... 52,000 words for now, updated bi-weekly. Please, Please, Please Let Me Get What I Want by DarkJaden825698, one-shot. After his sentence, Sean reconnects with some old friends and says some things he didn't get to say when he had the chance. This story is a warm, fuzzy thing where everything goes well for a change. I may also be very partial to the title: that song is tied to some of my fondest memories, so extra points to the author. 4,000 words. Spirit Realm: Road to Redemption by Sombraguerrero, completed. Sean has served his sentence, abbreviated by a lack of success on the authorities' part to attain burden of proof on the supposed major crimes. The public has run out of patience and has allowed Sean and Daniel to try and pick up the pieces, with as much help as they can get along what is once again a rough road. 21,000 words. Stay Strange by DarkJaden825698, completed. Dr. Bright is assigned to Sean Diaz as his therapist in prison, and walks him through his trauma while trying to find him a lawyer to challenge his sentence. Crossover fic between LiS2 and The Bright Sessions podcast - you don’t know anything about the podcast? Me neither, and it’s not an issue. 32,000 words.

AUs

And All These Empty Streets by Riona, one-shot. After the apocalypse, Sean and Daniel have a run-in with Joel and Ellie from TLOU. I think that this is the story that made me realize how I love Sean and Daniel so much that I’m willing to read the weirdest AUs and crossovers so long. It flows really well and it feels natural. 2,000 words.

Riona has written a lot of stories that start from an unexpected premise and draw a little vignette. They are all different from each other and I loved them all. Check out her AO3 profile! Can you give me a hint by Idnis, completed. Teenage Daniel/Chris. If you like “mutual pining” and “dumb idiots in love”, this story will make your day. It’s just... fluffy and sweet and innocent, a tiny bit of teenage drama that Daniel and Chris deserve after everything they’ve been through. 22,500 words. Closer to the Heart by darkjaden825698, in progress. After the shooting, Sean waits for the police to arrive. He’s cleared of all charges and sent to live to Beaver Creek, where he must come to terms with what happened and rebuild a life for himself. A teen drama where nothing bad happens to the boys and they get to live normal lives? Hit me with it. 4,000 words. Double exposure by Riona, completed. It draws inspiration from *Your Name*: Max and Sean begin swapping bodies at random. If the premise doesn’t turn you away, it’s a beautiful bittersweet story about two people trying to help each other while their own worlds are falling apart. 11,000 words. Faithless by HollowK, in progress. Six years after the failed heist, Sean wakes up from his coma and has a brother to find. Exactly: oof. 6,500 words for now. I Took Both Roads, series by owlmug. AU where Esteban isn’t shot. Sean/Finn (with some Sean/Cassidy in the first story). It’s a coming of age story, and I really loved how the author mirrored some situations that are found in the game by giving them a new twist. I won’t lie, these stories hurt, because they made me think about what could have been. The characters are spot on, and the interactions of the Diaz family are golden. Bonus points for having Sean behave like a teenage brat at times, because the boy deserved to have temper tantrums and getting into fights with Esteban over stupid stuff. There are also a lot of beautiful images across the series, a lot of lines that feel raw and powerful, and a lot of healing. At times it’s like having a heart-to-heart with the author. Sometimes I felt that the sex scenes were too long, and some of them I found unnecessary, but that’s just my personal taste. I really liked all the four stories, but the last one is my favourite for sure because it follows Esteban’s point of view and it’s *chef’s kiss*.

I can repeat here most of what I wrote for the earlier series: wonderful characterization, beautiful imagery, touching themes, characters that find themselves along the way. Something that makes you go “Please, sir, can I have some more?” at the end of every chapter. i just don’t know how i’m doing (i’m so curious about you) by Larrymurphycansteponme, one-shot. Another High School AU, another wonderful coming of age story for Sean. I wish I could make it justice without repeating everything I said about owlmug’s series: spot-on characterization, a beautiful narrative about growing up and finding one’s way, wonderful imagery. It’s the story of what Sean deserved to have, and one of my favorite ever. 28,000 words.

MISSING MOMENTS

A Night With Misty Mice by That_one_internet_lover, completed. It follows Sean and Lyla’s concert night that is mentioned in his phone chat in ep.1. It’s the first fanfiction I read after my endgame heartbreak: it gave me all the happy Sean I wanted, and even a bit more. The dynamic between him and Lyla is exactly what I pictured from their interactions in the game, put into words by someone who knows what they’re doing. 10,000 words. Astray by Riona, one-shot. Daniel leaves Sean behind after the events of Wastelands. It’s probably more of an AU than a Missing Moment, since it was written before Faith came out and so it’s not entirely canon-compliant, but it’s still a very good window on Daniel’s state of mind after the heist. I’m eternally grateful to Riona for filling some of the gaps that the game left in the development of these wonderful characters. 1,500 words.  Fire and Floods by Riona, one-shot. Sean and Daniel go on the run, and this fic covers the first day of their journey. A spot-on dissection of Sean’s feelings after the shooting. 1,500 words. life is strange 2 poems by Spotsuns, an ongoing collection of one-shots. These stories have all the oooffness of the game. The stories in here hurt. In the good way, but they hurt nonetheless. Beautiful character studies, and some heavy-duty, post-ending feel unpacking. 11,000 words. Never Stop Shining by CorazonDesnudo, in progress. During his stay in Away, Sean receives a letter from Finn with an offer to help him and Daniel cross the border. It’s a chance to come to terms with a lot of things he didn’t really process before. 11,000 words for now. Torchbearers by Riona. Ep.1’s Sean and Daniel run into Max and Chloe among the ruins of Arcadia Bay. I can definitely see this story being a moment of quiet in the game. 2,600 words. What Remains of the Diaz Family by That_one_internet_lover, completed. Lyla sneaks into the Diaz household after the brothers have disappeared. Heartbreaking oofness ensues as Lyla walks through their memories and faces her own pain. 6500 words.
