EPIC SCI-FI FIRST EDITIONS WORTH MORE THAN YOUR LIFE -- BOOK DETAILS ARE AS FOLLOWS:
TITLE: "Dune"
AUTHOR: Herbert, Frank
BINDING: Hardcover
EDITION: First Edition
PAGES: 412
VOLUMES: 1
LANGUAGE: English
PUBLISHER: Chilton Book Company, Radnor
DATE: 1965
BOOK OVERVIEW: "The first in the epic science fiction series of the same name, "Dune" is set on the desert planet Arrakis, host to "the Spice" - the most important resource in the universe, needed for interplanetary travel and coveted for its effects on longevity and granting incredible psychic powers among humans. Amidst an intergalactic power struggle, would-be heir to the planet's stewardship Paul Atreides is cast out into the desert to die following a coup. Joining a group of zealots called the Fremen, Paul soon becomes considered their messiah - Mahdi - and recognizes in them a formidable fighting force with whom he can retake control of Arrakis. "Dune" won both the Hugo Award for Best Novel and the Nebula Award for Best Novel.
FIRST EDITION IDENTIFICATION:
""Dune" is one of the high points for science fiction collectors and was first published in 1965 by Chilton Book Company in Philadelphia (an interesting departure for the publisher, who to that date had only published automotive repair manuals). The true first will read "First Edition" on the copyright page, with no subsequent printings, and will be in blue cloth boards. The jacket is a pictorial dark red and blue desert scene, and the rear panel has a map. The price on the jacket flap should be $5.95 and the rear flap should have the Chilton address across four lines."

Acquired this first edition of Charlotte Brontë’s Shirley at last month’s New York International Antiquarian Book Fair - it was complete luck that I saw the volumes in one of the cases. The text blocks show their age, but they were beautifully rebound in leather around the turn of the 20th century.
It was such an overwhelming feeling when I opened one and saw the first page with the year and the publisher.
So many amazing things at this Fair! I highly recommend checking it out next year if you are in the area.

Uhm guys! 😳Remember that German Rambo 1 edition that was 400€ cheaper then the other second hand German Rambo editions?
I bought it, wondering what’s wrong with it, why someone sells it for 23€ instead of 400€ like all the others and uhm…

since Eng is getting 7.5 soon(?), I felt motivated to go back to my Meleanor rig and make her a couple of lesson animations! ...except for alchemy, because the cauldron bubbles proved too hard to photoshop around, whoops.
maybe she just got lost on her way to the classroom...?

(credit: backgrounds are from the game, I just put her on top of 'em)
(aside from the backgrounds, this is not an edit, I drew her from scratch! please do not tag or treat as an edit!)

Wait, WHAT?!
Hold on; okay, so during the mid- to late-80s my mom gave me, like, 3/4 of her library of Star Trek books so I'd have my own starting library. Even through getting kicked out and into the system by my step-mother (long story), an interstate move, a marriage, a divorce, and being friggin' homeless I made sure to hang on to those books:
Tumblr media
(Some obvious non-Trek books have been added, and yes, the bibliophiles out there will know, this is just a fraction of my total books.)
I have read and re-read and re-re-read these a lot. We're planning on moving to Seattle in a few years, and it got me nostalgic for this beauty, which it looks like I'll have to get the Kindle version and hand this one to a book doctor so it will survive at least a little longer:
Tumblr media
This is my third copy of Uhura's Song, the first one my mom gave me got loved to death, literally falling apart in my hands at one point. The second suffered a similar fate, and now I have it on Kindle to at least try to keep this one from suffering Ishmael's end:
Tumblr media
Oh, look! It's Doctor's Orders by @dduane! Containing one of my absolutely FAVORITE lines in fiction of all time:
Tumblr media
“One good shot at this velocity, and they would be so dead that they wouldn't know anything about it until God tapped them on the shoulder and asked them for identification.” ― Diane Duane, Doctor's Orders
Tumblr media
Ah! Here it is!
Tumblr media
...is it...?
Tumblr media
IT IS!
Back when I first read this, I thought it was good, I thought it was fun, but I was a repressed transgirl lesbian who didn't even know transwomen were a thing you could be and my TERF stepmother actively kept me out of what we would now call LGBTQ+ spaces, so I didn't even realize Spirk was a 'thing' until I was a fully grown adult with a kid on the way. You'd have had to hit me upside the head with a brick with "M/M" written on it and then patiently explained that men can feel like that with each other, too. You'd probably have needed to include charts and a graph, 'cause that's how clueless I was to what being gay meant.
Time to re-read, I guess! 😋
i'm finally getting around to reading Killing Time by Della Van Hise.
you know, the Star Trek book that was so gay that it was recalled and reprinted with over 50 changes.
I got my hands on a first edition copy from Thriftbooks and decided to use a sticky tab every time something "spirk" happened
Tumblr media
I'm only halfway through.
