so i thought the door to a career in academia was closed to me after my first year bc i felt like there was no way in hell i could swing it, even if i wanted to (and while i had glamourized the academic life in high school, i was so burnt out after first year i could not stand the sound of the word "academia" or anything remotely related to it). but a few people close to me, including @zzzzzestforlife (and i usually trust her judgment of my preferences 😅), suggested i look out for a career in academia bc "i like studying and learning". ...now that i think of it, there is a bit of truth in that (but do i really only complain about studying like someone who likes it would??? 😅🤓) and i feel i have changed a bit since first year...maybe with more years to grow, i might feel like academia is a real career option for me... for now, it gives me motivation to study (and a reason to research phd's again 😅). it's a late start again today... 🙈

Good evening friends, I hope you are all well and having a lovely Thursday! Just one more day till the weekend! Yay <3

Inspired by the lovely @the-winds-of-destiny-xxx , I've decided to start blogging about my day. Hopefully, I will be able to stay up to date lol.

Work

Ugh, I've been up since 5am prepping myself to deliver my second lecture of the semester. It went well, kinda. The students were super interactive which is great. Application + practicality > regurgitating information. They did super well. Also, we have a new HoD, and while I really liked our previous heads, the new HoD is a breath of fresh air and I really enjoy their approach towards education.

My full-time job is actually soooo … atm. My colleague has resigned which is all cool and I wish her the best.

But, there’s a trend I’ve noticed recently within our organization … and I hope it does not present any problems in the future. Tbh, I think it has presented a problem before … but idk. Anyway, constructive criticism goes a long long way … only if you’re keen and willing to learn …. which this person defo is NOT.

Enough about my colleagues, the CEO presented me with an opportunity but I'm lowkey nervous .. bc I prefer being a private + somewhat anonymous person lol, but I obviously said yes. Let's see how it goes, anything can happen and this whole project might fall through. Especially in this economy.

All in all, I really love my job and the career path I’ve taken. I hope it does not backfire on me later on in life.

Uni

Gosh. Uni is the bane of my existence atm. Tho, i did make a bit of progress on my thesis today. I know exactly what I need to do, but I just don't have the motivation to it. But, I think I've finally got myself together .. so let's see what happens.

Also, I'm so grateful for my thesis supervisor <3 she is so understanding and supportive.

Health

But, my nose and throat have been KILLING me recently? Idk if it’s bc of the fan or what … but yup. Thank god for cloves! They’ve helped wayyyy more than anything else I’ve tried lol. Also, my pms is really starting to hit 😭😭 I’ve been in soooo much pain since I got back home.

My mentally, I’m doing okay … there’s obvs moments in the day where I’m like shit?? I’m an adult adult?? Yet my life feels so stagnant 😂 but then I try to keep it moving and not think so much about what I want … and I try to focus on what I do have…. bc I’ve done my best.

Fun and mundane

I finally got to go to my first gym class of the week - I really needed that! The housewives from my class invited me for smoothies afterwards … and they are so fun! Are they my mums age mates? Yes 😂😂 but I loved hanging out with them .. they truly live in their own bubble .. I wanna be exactly like them when I’m older lol.

Oh Oh! And I finally finished the second season of Al Rawabi School for Girls ... flip, it truly broke my heart. What an amazing show.

I really wanted to start the new season of Real Housewives of Durban … but the new Showmax app is truly YUCK! I have the ick 🫠🫠 but, I love the show waaaaay too much, so I’d probs get over it soon lol.

Other than gym and catching up on tv, I made a delicious lasagna for dinner. I'm convinced that my homemade meat sauce and cheese sauce remains undefeated, or maybe that's just me being cocky lol. If I had more space, I would have defo attempted to make the pasta too.

I'm super excited for this weekend bc my friends and I are going to this art and music event and getting food afterwards. I also really wanna buy that duvet set I saw online ... since I'm no longer purchasing an apartment (recession boo boo boo 🍅🍅🍅), I may as well just re-do my current apartment lol. It already looks great, but I've been putting off getting a new duvet set bc I presumed I was gonna buy a bigger bed lol... so I've just been rotating between the two sets I have ... and damn they've seen better days lol.

Relationships

After all he has been through, my brother finally has some great things happening. I am so proud of him. I know he will achieve everything he aspires to <3 This has also done wonders for his self-confidence, he truly needed this, and I hope ... I really hope that it stays on this positive track.

Positive family news aside, idk if anyone saw the post about my uncle? But god damn I'm annoyed af. (Side note: He is my mums cousin btw; but my entire family is close). Anyway, my uncle called my mum to rant … and according to my mum he was sooooo proud of what he said to his wife??? I’m just disgusted. Idk how. His wife could forgive him for this. I’m so glad my mum put him in his place ✋🏽✋🏽✋🏽

I know its not about me and I have no right to speak on other people's relationships, but I hate seeing people put their all into a relationship and even go against their own family to be with someone ... only for their partner to treat them like this. His wife deserves soooooo much better and its sooo heartbreaking that she has to go through. My heart truly breaks for her. I pray everything works out for her.

I'm currently in the "questioning myself at every turn" stage of writing, where I know there are areas to improve but I'm not so sure how to get there, and I get caught in the technical aspects of writing ( how to say this, does this word work, etc) that it just makes it difficult to get words out.

I've sort of been searching for a nudge in the right direction from someone who can actually see the forest for the trees, because I'm not really able to.

I've been reading many writing resources in the hopes that it will give me some sort of direction on how I can improve, but so far it's mostly allowing me to forget that I'm doing this for fun. I need to remember to let myself play in the sandbox.

professionally: make the most of his new opportunity/position @ hanhwa and learn as much as he can about front-of-house operations. as someone newly in a managerial role he'd also just! like to able to use his position of leadership/authority to cultivate a good working environment and hopefully make a positive impact where he's at. call him naive but he's really kind of set on making that happen

when did your muse first arrive in yuseong bay?

the literal answer would be when he was about six months old! his parents had settled down in jeju city (mom's hometown) but yuseong is where his dad grew up and where his paternal grandparents lived. dad brought him over as soon as he was deemed ok to travel as a baby so his paternal grandparents could see him

as mentioned previously he also spent nearly every summer/winter break in town alongside his siblings, so he was in yuseong quite a lot growing up!

more recently though he'd moved here as a bonafide resident just last year, early december, following his employment to hanhwa resort (🍅💥). staff housing was offered but his grandparents' house was just accumulating dust TW / DEATH now that both of them had passed END TW so he took it up instead. jihyung has a lot of fond memories there.

what does an average day look like for your muse?

starts his day reaaaallyyy early and is one of those people who are just unironically kind of cool with being up at 4am. unabashed abt his obsession with reaching his daily step goal so he starts the day by jogging/walking; delegates about an hour for it (plus around 20 mins for the assorted chitchat and small talk he's sure to encounter on the way). should be back at home by 5:30am to prepare for work, and by 6:30am he's out the door.

work day starts at 8am officially but he'll be doing his rounds beginning 7am, inspecting the cleanliness/condition/readiness of the facilities + checking in with the staff. he's very hands-on and present; has a bit of a rep for being very strict/eagle-eyed but if people have concerns they wouldn't hesitate to approach him. keeps his office door open for that very purpose but you wouldn't even need to go to his office to ask because he's always on the floor helping out with operations. leaves most of the mtgs with corporate/"highly important" shareholder emails to the big boss general manager but he's always being told that he'll have to learn to tolerate the corporate formalities if he intends to 📈 move up 📈 in the industry

his strength and background is primarily in dining service/food and beverage operations so he's trying to expose himself more in rooms/other recreational outlets to be well-rounded! does have general experience from working at the marriott resort in jeju city but he's a lot closer to it here in hanhwa now sooo there's a lot for him to pick up and learn. divides his workday accordingly. it's challenging but he enjoys it.

(since he starts his workday early he clocks out right on the dot for that quote unquote work-life balance)

after work: most often catches a meal and/or a drink with other hanhwa staff/old friends from childhood/new acquaintances ever since he moved. even if he's having dinner alone he'd rather dine outside than at home. ends the day by checking/replying to the fam/siblings group chat or falling asleep to the tv/music/a podcast

where can your muse usually be found?

boring but true answer's the resort 🚶‍♂️ outside of it, he jogs by the coast and residential areas almost every morning + spends dinnertime at the local food spots or by the coast. does his errands during weekends so he'll be in town to pay for his bills or at lemon martes for his weekly groceries

how does your muse feel about hanhwa resort?

having been raised in a family whose main fare heavily relied on touristification (mom and dad were hotel chefs and were able to make a stable living because of the industry), ngl he comes from a bit of a biased background/perspective. he knows it's about the corporate bottomline at the end of the day but he sort of just dulls the buzz at the back of his head (what one might call a conscience) by thinking there's good that comes from it, too. he's met a lot of good people here. it's not perfect but realistically speaking not much else is

in that vein he tries his best to be people-oriented in terms of the culture they're building here and "give back" to some capacity, i.e. actually respecting and encouraging work-life balance, hiring more island/town locals instead of shipping in folks from other cities, partnering with and sourcing from local businesses, etc

is there an aspiration for your muse to stay in or leave yuseong bay?

he's got more motivations to stay, focal among them his career growth. it's his first managerial role and he's got a good mentor here so even though it's an island property, he knows it's got a good place in his future/the big picture. also heavily swayed by the convenience/comforts/nostalgia of living in town. he's what u would call a simple guy with zero frills so everything's just right for him, and he'd loved all the parts of his childhood that he'd spent here, so for the time being, he's intends to stay.

🍓 ⇢ how did you get into writing fanfiction?

No one else was writing an Eggman who was evil/competent/didn't get one-upped or killed off by another villain/didn't want to secretly fuck Sonic because villains can never be obsessed with killing the hero for any other reason according to the internet, so I pulled a Thanos and decided to just do it myself, and made it my mission to create the cruelest portrayal I could muster to spite those fics and then IDW and Frontiers... without losing his comedic edge, of course. (I'm sure there are good Eggman-utilizing fics out there, but good luck finding them in a sea of soft!Eggman fics, dead!Eggman fics, Sonamy fics, Sonally fics, Sonadow fics, high school fics, SA2 fics, Scourge fics, Eggdad fics, multiverse fics, fics where there's a villain team up but Eggman isn't included because the other villains consider him a joke...)

More seriously, it's as simple as wanting to pay tribute to a franchise that I love. Aside from my one-shots that helped me get some practice for writing the characters, I wanted to create an adventure that encompassed everything I value in a Sonic journey, be it from Classic, Adventure or Modern. Including but not limited to: overarching themes, visual storytelling, Eggman, zone aesthetics, creative Badniks, Eggman, superpower of teamwork, balanced tone, Eggman, subtext, characters being positively influenced by Sonic and/or his friends, Eggman, callbacks that are actually fun or have reason to exist beyond How Do You Do Fellow Fans, and Eggman.

As for Trudy, I was interested in trying my hand at an OC and whether I could make them as compelling as the official characters. Ever since the start, I was determined to shoot down the fandom overcorrection of OCs never interacting with the cast in any meaningful way lest they be accused of Sueism, and prove you can make OCs work with them if you try hard enough. Plus, since some games have a friend of the week who the story revolves around how Sonic impacts them, like Shahra in Secret Rings for example, I was eager to give that a try too.

So eventually, after writing out several concepts, I got this idea for a horse with a bouncy ponytail... Though Colony would be the one to bring her to life on paper (because I'm not an artist :<), the design was already fully thought out in my head, to the point where I was actually worried that I was being too demanding when I gave Colony my description, though she assured me that it helped her visualize it. Trudy's personality didn't take long to finalize either: I was already sick of modern female characters whose sole personality trait is "I'm a cunt, pls clap", and in addition to fighting back against the common claim that soft and kindhearted characters are inherently bad or Sueish, I also thought having a character like her would stand out in the Sonic cast, since a lot of the main regulars tend to have a prideful and/or temperamental side, albeit some more than others.

...And since British-accented characters in non-British works tend to be stereotyped as the snobby one, this time the British cast member (Viridonian cast member?) is the mellow one. :P

Not so much a headcanon since it's already in my fic, but despite Sonic's casual body language and lack of lovey dovey talk, Eggman quickly figures out that Sonic is getting the fee-fees for Trudy because he knows that look.

How does he recognize that look? Because he's seen it in the mirror hundreds of times over the years, so of course he would know it when he sees it.

(The joke is that EggmanXHimself is my favourite ship that doesn't involve Sonic and Toll Girls... which also applies to Trudy, since she's slightly taller than Sonic lolololol.)

🍅 ⇢ give yourself some constructive criticism on your own writing

I get so into scenery descriptions that I often have to cut them down into smaller pieces for pacing. I always have to remind myself that it's okay if the readers don't visualize every little detail of what's in my head... but I try to convey as much of it as I can all the same. XD

For character examples, I've got a couple of things I'd like to address. I apologise if a lot of this sounds like Channel Awesome "sorry you felt that way" handwaving, but the point is to show that I'm very much aware of how the following could possibly be divisive for some folk. Anyway, here goes:

First off, the recent talk about Shadow's dickish side has made me somewhat nervous about how I've chosen to portray him, since Stellar!Shadow is pretty lax for the most part. Granted, he doesn't have an excuse to fight Sonic here, and it's long after the events of SA2/ShtH/Battle/etc, so it can be said that he's slightly chilled out on Sonic's side of affairs since then. His general attitude remains the same as ever, and there's still some competitive banter between him and Sonic, but it's more amicable than the days of SA2, and on the whole, if stuff like IDW is anything to go by, I figured that Shadow fighting Sonic for debatably shoehorned reasons (depending on which game or adaptation we're talking about) is at risk of becoming equally as overbearing to Shadow's image as revolving everything around Maria's death.

That's not to say Shadow doesn't show an aggressive side at all... but in this case, it's directed at Eggman for using Gerald's memory as a front for his latest scheme... and that's before he learns other details of what the doctor has been up to this time.

Secondly, there was a lot of panicking over how to tackle Amy's stance on Sonudis. Obviously it makes sense that she'd initially be a little upset over Sonic feeling that way towards someone else, given how long she's been pining for him, but I want to make dead sure that it's played as sympathetically as possible instead of making her a yandere asshole, and I also wanted her to retain her upbeat persona and get something out of the experience instead of it being a downer ending for her so to speak. I know there's going to be someone out there who will take issue no matter what because "Sonic belongs to Amy!!!" (as if Sonic is anyone's property?), but I can only do my best, right?

Finally, since I mentioned one of my goals was to make the most monstrous Eggman I could while keeping him as his usual le funny eggperson self, naturally there have been times where I've wondered if I may have gone too far in a few places I've made it too in-your-face. In fairness to me, it's stylistically designed to be that way I've been very conscious about tonal progression in my fic, so at first there are only some subtle hints that Eggman's stooping to new lows beyond the usual on-brand dealings he does, and it's not until later on that the finer details of his true depravity become more apparent, culminating in... well, you'll have to wait and see how the endgame plays out. :] Like Shadow, there's some in-universe justification as well, since it's established that by this point in his life, Eggman is fucking sick of Sonic beating him all the time, and so he's giving the 120%, pulling out all the stops, and making absolutely sure that nothing goes out of his control. And it's not like it's just his cruelty that gets highlighted: his brilliance and insane determination get much focus as well.

Speaking of, I'm also conscious of the fact that some of the content relating to Eggman's darker actions might be considered stuff that you might not normally see in an official Sonic product, despite my known desire to make Stellar feel as official flavored as possible. But much like Sonudis, the idea is to tackle these elements with the mindset of "If this was in an official work, how might it play out? How would it be framed?" At the very least, I wouldn't say there's anything that goes so ridiculously far beyond the usual Sonic fare (like sexual activity, for a crude example), and you won't have to worry about zombot-tier misery porn where everyone just fails and sulks for a period that lasts longer than '06 loading screens.

it's not a fact I talk about often, especially because it was so long ago, but I'm actually a first degree black belt

I started taekwondo when I was maybe 9 (?) and it took maybe 4 or 5 years but I worked my way up and earned my black belt, I wanna say it was about a 3 hour long test and it was hard to push myself to do it, but after lots of hard work and determination I got there, and I'm proud of myself for that lol

The two of them were exact opposites, yet they both couldn't help but love each other. One was a quiet boy who kept to himself. A boy that was hard to approach.

While the other was the energetic and loud girl who was friends with many. She was easy to approach and was the light of the party. But despite that, they couldn't help but love each other. Sparing glances then and there, without the other noticing.

They both had fallen inlove, though neither one knew that they both shared the same feelings. However, as a current event had went on, they couldn't help but not take notice that the love they have for each other had went beyond that of a crush.

📍 Konoha High school

"Hey, Naruto." A deep voice called out from the doorway of the second year's classroom. "Huh, what is it Sasuke?" Naruto, the boy in question, had asked his friend.

The school day was over and everyone was getting ready to leave, most students already on their way home, while others are still at the school doing club activities.

Usually Sasuke is one of the first few to head out, however for the first time, at least from Naruto's point of view, the black haired teen had stayed behind and waited for his blue eyed classmate.

"Do you.. Have Sakura's number..?" The boy quietly asked, his blunt and forward spoken personality vanishing in a instant. If you were close to Sasuke you might've even been sable to see a slight blush on his cheeks.

"What was that?" Naruto asked, not hearing him because of how quiet he had spoken.

"Well, uhm..." Swinging his backup over his shoulders, Naruto walked up to the boy who was leaning against the doorway, "You should really speak louder ya know." The blonde idiot complained, wanting to go home already.

Standing up straight, Sasuke took his body off of the doorway. Taking a deep breath in and out, he shook away the feelings of embarrassment and asked he was trying to ask from the start.

"Do you have Sakura's number and if you do can you maybe give it to me?" He finally asked, his face turning into a brighter red then that of Kushina's hair.

Naruto was taken back from the sudden question. His eyes were wide open, however it was more of a 'Wow I didn't expect that.' look of shock rather then a, 'What the hell.' type of shock.

Soon enough however, the blonde haired teen's shock was replaced with a familiar facial expression shown, one that Sasuke knew way too well for his liking.

"So you like Sakura-chan, huh." It was more of a statement then a question.

"That's none of your concern." Sasuke avoided the piercing gaze that Naruto had on him. The black haired boy had his arms crossed while looking away, hoping that the blush that was quite noticeable on his cheeks would go away sometime soon.

Naruto laughed, liking the fact that he now had the opportunity to tease his friend. "To answer your question, yes. I do have her number. We were teamed up for a group project in english awhile back, and we needed each other's contact information."

"I didn't ask why you had her number, I only asked if you had her number. Anyways can you put it in my phone." He didn't asked, but demanded the annoying blonde who could only groan in response, but he didn’t complain and just took Sasuke's phone out of his hand, putting in Sakura's number, naming her contact, and then giving the phone back to the black haired male.

"Thanks. I'll give you 1000 yen (Seven US dollars.) in return tomorrow." Sasuke said, waving at the boy from who was staring at him with hearts in his eyes from behind.

Now in the hallway alone, Sasuke couldn't help but let go of the mask he was trying his best to hide and had let the big smile he was trying to hide show. Lifting his arm up in the air, his hand formed in a fist, Sasuke shut his eyes tightly and mentally screamed to himself.

'Yes!' He jumped like a fangirl meeting her favorite kpop idol for the first time at a meet and greet.

🍅 : I'm a classmate of yours.

🌸 : oh. did that naruto give you my number?

🍅 : Yes, he did. I asked him for it though.

🌸 : to be honest, that makes sense

Sasuke frowned, 'It wasn't suppose to go this way.' he thought, slamming his head down against his pillow, looking at the text message on his phone.

"Sakura..." He closed his eyes, smiling at the thought of the girl he loves.

From afar, he's always admired the girl. Everything she does makes him love her even more.

From her laughter, to the jokes he hears her say. However, he's always been too afraid to go up to her himself, so he always admired her from afar.

'I thought that if I texted her, I'll have the strength to actually talk to her and become close.. But that failed greatly.'

He opened his eyes and swung his legs over his bed, standing up he walked into his bedroom's bathroom.

Looking at himself in the mirror, he frowned, "Maybe if I looked more like Itachi.." He started comparing himself to his older brother, his self esteem lowering more than it already was.

Shaking his head, he got rid of those thoughts, and looked at himself with determination, 'No, I can't think like that. I have to be confident. That's the only way i'll ever truly get closed to Sakura.'

decided to start a loosely defined productivity challenge to start off the new year, counting the days for as long as i feel like. the goal is to get off holiday potato mode, focus on my priorities, and work towards the version of me i dream of without burning out, fighting fear and doubt and visualizing success - no self-discouragement here. (but since i want to try to make daily posts, i will probs mostly be taking my pics from the internet...like i've done today)
