The Simple Man

I’ve always had this interest in collecting items that I described as timeless – items that defined a gentleman – in all ways one can be. But I never was one that wanted typical. When seeking a watch, my choice was orange; my socks are never classic black…it has to be different. Perhaps this desire stems from being a red-head and naturally standing out my entire life.

I began to follow makers that seemed to understand this essence. Makers with a passion for their craft and a dedication to quality – those who’s belief was to preserve the craft of making hand-made, durable goods and share it.

As I started to research more, I found I was driven with a similar passion - to build this concept and do it from the ground up. With the help of friends, family, trusted acquaintances, and even complete strangers, we have built The Simple Man storefront entirely by hand. Every countertop planed, every wall painted, every item selected was done with the constant hope that other men would understand this is what it’s all about. Similar to our grandfathers, the roots of our successes begin with the belief and willingness to try.

Our focus is on curating simple, well made, durable goods for men. Our concept is a bit different from traditional men's stores, where clothing is the focus and the rest of the goods, accessories and such are secondary. Instead, our focus is on the """"other"""" pieces a man desires to complete himself and display his distinct brand. These include personal care items, accessories, lifestyle goods, and other unique items a distinguished man seeks. We also carry a small selection of classic, timeless clothing from up and coming designers/makers.

I mostly think this poll is hilarious (and some people are taking it way, way too seriously) but it’s starting to get really weird how often people on the opposite side are dismissing Gundam — a giant of science fiction that remade a genre in its image — and quite literally lying about Suletta and Miorine. I’ve seen people claim they were canonically married to men, people claim the show’s ending was rewritten by interns, claim they never hugged, and other claims regarding them not being canon.

While Bandai and Kadokawa did censor one interview, and Bandai released an “open to interpretation” statement, these no longer hold true. Official material has henceforth referred to them as married. One instance of censorship and a statement they’ve clearly walked back on does not erase the fact that the show itself heavily emphasizes their wedding rings, refers to Miorine as Eri’s sister-in-law, and makes it abundantly clear that they are married.

They are completely and unambiguously canon, and arguably were never decanonized to begin with given the literal text of the show.

An addendum to this: I’ve also seen a strange dismissal of the history that G-Witch pulls from.

The original Gundam inspired Revolutionary Girl Utena, with Lalah Sune in particular (the creator of an iconic Gundam archetype) serving as the inspiration for Anthy Himemiya. Gundam has had a queer fanbase for decades, and has had gay characters (with Yoshiyuki Tomino himself confirming this) since the 1990s.

G-Witch draws from Gundam’s extensive, genre-shaking history, classics like Utena and Rose of Versailles, and Shakespeare’s The Tempest. It brings Gundam and Utena’s connection full circle, and is in conversation with every Gundam series that came before it.

It’s unfair to dismiss it as just some random show, or — as I’ve seen some do — credit its open queerness to the influence of completely unrelated American media, as if Japan is utterly devoid of gay people.

Choice Theft in the second degree, with utter disrespect

The way Genji, Kumasawa, and Nanjo constantly refer to the rape as being like…The One Sin that Kinzo ever did in regards to Beatrice 2. As though they weren’t there actively helping him to raise her in isolation, imprisonment, lying to her about the world, about herself. As if that’s not also a nightmarish abusive situation already, just on it’s own. We have so little of Beatrice 2, but it’s an undeniable fact that she was a human utterly devoid of agency in every single way.. They stole from her even the choice to be angry or upset or aware about what was happening to her, what had happened to her. Of the choice to be a human and not a witch. Of the choice to be a daughter and not a wife. Genji’s half-truth phrasings during the games too when dodging confirmation from the siblings about whether Kinzo had a child with his mistress are especially disgusting. Since he’s not just outright lying like Nanjo, but denying Beatrice 2’s personhood as an individual, and slyly using Kinzo’s grooming logic that she was not really herself, but someone else (her mother), even if he did genuinely feel bad for her. I’m sure Genji, Kumasawa, and Nanjo contented themselves by thinking that a bird in a cage doesn’t long for the outside. But that’s a theft in itself. And this choice theft is only continued with Sayo. Robbed of her own unsurgically-altered body. Robbed of the context of her life. Robbed of the ability to make choices based on those two things. And then in telling her, far too late, she is robbed of the mundane, uncomplicated love that had existed in her heart for Battler. Robbed of a lineage not tainted by the most horrific abuse. Robbed even of the ability to look at her own father, at the people who raised her, with respect. Like…HELL IS NOT HOT ENOUGH!!!!

What do you recommend for hair removal? Do you know any tips or tricks for getting longer term full Body (everywhere) and upper lip & face hair removal with no pain?

In terms of hair removal methods, I recommend the following:

Sugaring: Full body and upper lip

Dermaplaning: Face and upper lip

Laser Hair Removal: Any hair removal you have the budget, time, and pain threshold to afford

Tips For Less Painful Hair Removal:

Use a topical lidocaine numbing cream (I recommend Zensa Numbing Cream, which is made to use on sensitive areas like the bikini line or lips). I especially recommend using a numbing cream for laser hair removal!

In lieu of a topical lidocaine numbing cream, I would take an Advil or another ibuprofen medication as instructed before your hair removal treatment

Avoid alcohol 24-48 hours before your treatment (caffeine too, if possible), and drink plenty of water within 24 hours of your hair removal appointment

Exfoliate and moisturize your skin before & after your hair removal treatment. Don't exfoliate too soon after a hair removal appointment (how to irritate your skin 101)

Apply an ice pack or cold compress immediately after hair removal

Use aloe vera or coconut oil after a hair removal treatment to soothe the skin and reduce irritation or bumps

Avoid sun exposure before and after a hair removal treatment (timeframes depend on the type of treatment)

Don't wear tight clothes, go swimming, take hot baths, or engage in any sweaty activity immediately after a hair removal treatment

Avoid using any skincare products (or haircare you removed hair on your face) containing fragrance/perfumes on your skin for at least a few days after treatment

Don't use makeup or spray tan on your skin after hair removal

Never go to a hair removal appointment hungry, stressed, when experiencing PMS or while on your period – all of these bodily states can lower your pain tolerance and make the treatment feel worse than it otherwise would
