Crappy Political Prediction:

I don't think Trump will be president again. I don't know if he'll end up in prison before the election or after, or at all, but I don't think a second term is in his future. I think the GOP is going to pivot to maintain power *and* calm some of the extremist shit around them (while not actually doing anything). Business is business and it's not hard to see with the number of strikes going on, that there's a massive mood shift away from far-right politics in this country. In spite all of their gerrymandering propaganda BS, the fascist views of the GOP are not popular nor widely-held and they know it. They'll switch tactics as necessary. If they can't force the country to accept their neo-nazism, they'll just keep the downward slide going.

DeSantis isn't a viable candidate: he's off the rails, but he's a useful tool. They'll let him carve Florida out and use it as their lesson to the rest of the country. RFK jr is an ego-driven distraction. That really leaves one guy out there and the grooming has already begun.

The media is already depicting Mike Pence as this moral guy who stood up to Trump. It's pure bullshit, but it's the narrative they're going with. Set between the two extremes of Trump and DeSantis, Pence seems like a calm elder statesmen, a "principled conservative" and another Reagan in the offing.

Biden has dug himself into too many holes: his stand on migrants, the massive failures over Covid (putting the economy before people's lives and insisting we all return to in-person jobs that can be done from home is ableist af and disrespectful to the million-plus who have died in this country alone or the millions now suffering with long Covid), the blind support for Israel as some of the worst of its apartheid policies are widely condemned; the country is under massive labor strikes on his watch as he refuses to support raising the federal minimum wage during an economic depression where gas and grocery prices are overwhelming people, especially families, and assistance is even harder to get. He's barely visible to the public and doesn't speak to the country much at all. This just fuels rumors of his competence (also ageist and ableist, but we're talking perceptions here and how the media will use them against him. Tends to work).

Oh, and he still hasn't declared a climate emergency during one of the worst years of extreme weather we've seen so far.

Yes, he's put more progressive judges on the bench, but he's failed to expand the Supreme Court to counter their deep corruption. This is nonsensical. As the invasion of Ukraine continues, the cost of sending military aid balloons and that creates mistrust the GOP will happily exploit (and Putin will applaud).

Biden is in his 80s during a time when elder politicians like Mitch McConnell and Dianne Feinstein are being clearly abused for political gain. The GOP continues to rub his son Hunter's runaway capitalism in his face, even as they can't make anything else stick.

Pence is 64 and gets around.

He's also notorious for his evangelical beliefs that led to some of the worst anti-LGBT legislation in Indiana's history. He supports the end of public schooling, tried pushing "creationism" against science in public school curricula and has promoted conversion therapy.

Pence supports the coal industry and has shown no interest in the climate crisis or offering any solutions for it. While governor of Indiana, he worked against any plans to curb carbon emissions.

His tenure in Indiana saw a return to HIV outbreaks thanks to Pence's stand on needle exchange programs. His views couldn't be more anti-LGBT.

He's pro-gun, anti-public health, anti-abortion. But he's also fairly soft-spoken about it all and easily flipflops his positions when its convenient.

A quiet fascist, in other words.

He enabled Trump's worst behaviors and actions, including the assassination of an Iranian general, lied to and misled the people throughout the remainder of Trump's presidency over Covid and its effects, and still got called a "decent guy" by Joe Biden.

It will be fairly easy for the press to spin Pence as a victim of Trump and even heroic for "standing up to" the orange menace (but only when politically expedient), whose followers called for Pence's execution following the events of January 6, 2020. He'll be touted as a moderate, an antidote to Maga-extremism and the worst of his own beliefs and actions will be suppressed and conveniently shoved under a rug.

Since at least 2022, Pence has been positioning himself as this moderate voice, assailing the GOP's stance on Putin, while doubling down on his stance for "parents rights" -- the anti-trans dog whistle. He's old-school GOP, playing nice with Dems, while subverting democracy the way they used to do it: in the dark.

He and Biden are almost weird mirrors of the other, but Pence is the younger version.

Dems might be hopeful that Pence will be so divisive a candidate for the GOP that Biden will prevail over that alone. Liberal political analysts love suggesting the GOP will follow Trump right into the ground. I don't think so.

I think Pence could very well be their not-so-surprise candidate.

Half this country is perfectly fine with the far-right's turn to explicit fascism. The GOP will want to put a polite face on it.

Biden and the perpetually unseen Harris will have nothing to offer against it. He coasted into the Dem nomination without doing a thing and they'll try to coast again, thinking the country is sick of the GOP and Trump. Maybe they'll be right, who knows.

But they're not inspiring people to rush out and vote for them, is the point. Dems and their lack of energy and momentum toward dealing with the climate crisis and burgeoning fascism is a real problem. It is *the* problem. It makes them look more like enablers.

People showed up in unprecedented numbers to vote Trump out; they didn't have any choice over the Democratic candidate, but I don't know anyone who was truly enthusiastic for Biden. There's the odd blue maga out there who tries to spin it, but it's hard when the man himself reneges then futzes on his campaign promises, like student debt. Hard to spin him as a good president when he offers gas and oil contracts while the world's science community is screaming over tipping points and globally we are experiencing the last step toward the wet bulb moment.

Pence could mop the floor with him.

And that's when fascism becomes "respectable" and not an "extremist" position.

Because demoralized Dems might stay home next year (listen to Black folks on this one). But the GOP won't.

Organizing against this system is the only way forward. Dems won't get us there.

You want change? Support unions, support strikes and vote in every local election to put progressives on school boards and energy boards and every other community organization, including libraries.

This is where the big differences are made: a progressive community can stand against its would-be oppressors. There are more of us. We need to act like it.

WTF Scotland?

The independent LGBTI association representing police in Scotland is fundraising for a youth charity which recently referred itself to police over allegations of child sexual exploitation.

LGBT Youth Scotland, formerly the Stonewall Youth Project, is known as Scotland’s national charity for “LGBTI young people.” The charity referred itself to Police Scotland after Reduxx reported on historic abuses alleged by two former youth members. 

Sam Cowie, a university student from Glasgow, described his experience with LGBT Youth Scotland to Reduxx in December of 2022. He stated that he first became involved with the charity in 2010 at the age of 15.

“At first I thought it was great. There was a diverse group of young people involved. Colorful people and people who were unapologetically themselves. It was eye-opening and a lot to take in. The staff were friendly and nurturing,” Cowie said in December.

“I really didn’t realize I was being groomed until a much later date. It started with being given cigarettes. It later progressed to being taken for drinks and given alcohol. I was given a [fake] ID by a member of staff to gain entry into adult venues. I was given things that were considered special,” Cowie explains. “A staff member also made me show him my torso in the bathroom.”

Cowie recounts being taken by charity staff to gay clubs in Edinburgh while he was underage. He was exposed to a much older group of men who began offering the vulnerable teen money in exchange for sex.

“I was plied with alcohol free of charge, encouraged to sleep with older men and given money to perform sexual acts,” Cowie had told Reduxx.

Cowie cut ties with the charity at 17 and, now an adult, he is speaking out about his experience and demanding answers. Specifically, Cowie has been pursuing answers as to why a safeguarding investigation was not carried out into the organization after their former Chief Executive Officer, James Rennie, was convicted of organizing Scotland’s “largest pedophile network” in 2009, just one year before Cowie became involved with the charity. 

James Rennie became Chief Executive Officer of LGBT Youth Scotland in 2003. In 2007, his pedophile ring was uncovered following a lengthy operation by Lothian and Borders police.

As well as collecting thousands of images and videos of child sexual abuse, Rennie also sexually abused his own infant godson over a four-year period. The abuse started when the child was just 3 months old. Rennie had also used the e-mail handle “kplover,” (kiddie porn lover) to communicate with another pedophile who described how he would like to rape, torture, and murder a child. 

While soliciting child sexual abuse materials, Rennie once sent an email specifically requesting material featuring “young Down’s syndrome or learning difficulty kids.”

Rennie’s accomplice and fellow ringleader, Neil Strachan, had also sexually abused an infant boy, attempting to sodomize him while being HIV positive.

Cowie first spoke out against LGBT Youth Scotland on social media. His tweet inspired another survivor to come forward, and both of the young men spoke to Reduxx on their experiences with the charity. Daniel Nechtan became involved with the organization while Rennie was still CEO when he was just 13 or 14 years of age. 

“Although I was young, many people involved in this charity were in their twenties and thirties, and, as far as I can tell, there was no safeguarding or anything. In fact, it seemed more like a social network to connect older men with [often vulnerable] teenagers.”

Nechtan told Reduxx that charity staff had encouraged him to use “gay chatrooms” where he met a 24 year-old man pretending to be a 16 year-old boy. He describes how the older man became his “boyfriend”. Nechtan explained that through his older “boyfriend” and the older men he were met through the charity, he was encouraged to accept payment in exchange for sexual acts. He also explained how he met Rennie and Strachan through the charity, the leaders of Scotland’s “largest pedophile ring.”

Nechtan explained how they would buy him drink and drugs as a teen. Rennie and Strachan would give him alcohol in exchange for sexual contact. On one occasion, Strachan allegedly instructed Nechtan, who was then aged 17, to have sex with a 16 year old boy in front of him. Despite Nechtan’s experience, LGBT Youth Scotland claimed at the time of Rennie’s arrest that no youth members of the organization had been impacted by his predation.

Following the Reduxx exclusive in December of 2022, LGBT Youth Scotland released a statement on their website addressing the allegations.

“LGBT Youth Scotland are aware of allegations of historic exploitation made by individuals who used our services in the past. LGBT Youth Scotland takes any complaints and allegations seriously and we have reported these allegations to Police Scotland and will support them fully with any investigation.” 

Speaking to Reduxx on behalf of LGBT Youth Scotland, Holyrood Public Relations provided the Police Scotland reference number associated with the investigation and confirming that they had in fact referred the allegations to police. But Police Scotland has repeatedly refused to provide concrete details on the nature of the investigation despite multiple requests.

Despite an ostensibly open police investigation involving the charity and calls for them to be investigated by the UK charity commission for alleged child abuses, Scottish LGBTI Police Association announced on February 24 that they were crowdfunding on behalf of LGBT Youth Scotland. 

In the description of their crowdfunder, the Scottish LGBTI Police Association wrote that LGBT Youth Scotland creates “safe spaces” for “LGBTI young people aged 13-25.” The Association is an independent membership group for police officers and policing staff in Scotland. They are officially recognized by the Scottish Government, Scottish Police Authority, Police Scotland and UK-wide police forces including British Transport Police, Ministry of Defence Police and Civil Nuclear Constabulary.

The Scottish LGBTI Police Association shared their fundraiser on Twitter but were met with backlash from twitter users who pointed out the on-going investigation into the charity.

The Scottish women’s rights organisation, For Women Scotland, responded to the Scottish LGBTI Police association saying: “Aren’t the police supposed to be investigating this organization? Do @PoliceScotland make a habit of raising money for groups under investigation for child grooming and abuse?”

Survivor Sam Cowie also spoke out against the association on twitter calling the fundraiser “an absolute kick in the teeth,” and said he felt the move would send the wrong message to other alleged victims of LGBTYS who might be considering coming forward.

“Police Scotland are raising funds for the charity that groomed me and others. The same Police Scotland that aren’t doing anything to help me. The same Police Scotland that investigated former CEO paedophile of this charity and said his crimes weren’t connected to his role,” Cowie wrote on Twitter. 

Scottish LGBTI Police Association have since put their Twitter account on private, but the crowdfunding page is still active.

The fundraiser was part of Purple Friday, a campaign organized by LGBT Youth Scotland to encourage people to show support for “LGBTI young people” by donating to their charity. However, the charity has only raised £1,612 on this year’s Purple Friday, their largest fundraising drive, despite having a target of £25,000. 

On their official TikTok, the Scottish LGBTI Police Association made a music video about their efforts.

The funds are purportedly being used to fund LGBT Youth Scotland services and resources. As well as offering youth groups for children as young as 13, the charity provides information packages for public education, such as one created for school teachers to use on “international pronoun day.”

Other resources offered by the charity include a detailed sex guide for girls as young as 13 which includes information about anal sex, sex toys, oral sex and masturbation.

LGBT Youth Scotland also manages a scheme for employers and schools. They award businesses their “LGBT Charter” if they complete their program which involves training and a review of policies and procedures. 

The Edinburgh division of the Scottish police signed up to the LGBT Youth Scotland’s LGBT Charter in 2021.

In addition to the police, the Children and Young People’s Commissioner of Scotland is also directing young people to use LGBT Youth Scotland’s services while the investigation into the organization’s potential misconduct ongoing.

Once upon a time

Jean-Paul was born in 1989. His parents died when he was an infant, and he was separated from his twin sister Jeanne-Marie. Bad luck struck a second time when his adoptive family also died in an accident when he was 6 years old. He ended in a foste ome and had a lonely childhood and chaotic youth. Vulnerable and confused, he fell for Belmonde who basically groomed him , helping him with his powers and his confusion about his sexuality. They ended up in France where Paul joined a circus as an acrobat.

It took him a long time to get away from Belmonde, and think for himself. He fled back to Quebec and walked a path that he thought was the right one. He joined a radical separatist mouvement called "Front de Libération du Québec" . Believing in a cause for freedom , was something he stand behind. However, he left that group after the bombing attemps, he managed to stop one. This was a turning point for Jean-Paul. Yet again, he had been lured into false ideas of freedom and love.

He took upon himself to beter himself, and decided to really focus on himself and have a normal life. He joined the Olypmic Games on the ski team and became quite a known olmypist. He was contacted by Departement H to join Alpha Flight, the Canadian main team of superheroes. This time, he saw the selfish agenda of DH. One of his missions was to reclaim Wolverine. This time, he made the right choice.

However, Departement H allowed him to reconnect with his twin. It went sour all too quickly. She had the same output on life he had years ago. During a mission he was gravely wounded d, Northstar ended up in intensitive care. DNA determined that he was linked to the Front de Libération du Québec, however since he had killed no one he was pardoned. After that he left Alpha Flight for good. The reason for having been wounded was a baby in a dumpster who was HIV positive and displayed symptoms. He later adopted the child and named her Joanne. Sadly she passed away , becoming the reason Northstar would come out , accept himself and return to civilian life to make amends.

Closely after 2012 events, he was recruited by Jean for a mission , he first rejected it, but then agreed when Jean explained that it was Aurora, his twin sister who had been abducted by the Brotherhood.  He found her half insane, he nursed her back to health with the aid of the X-men. Frosty Ruins Dead End Paranormal Park

This cartoon looks fucking terrible. I hate the way this cancerous shitty and ugly animation style has become so common. It is appalling just to look at it and it's not just that the drawing is bad the actual movement and animation looks cheap and shitty too. Flash cartoons from the early 2000's looked better than this and I mean that without a hint of exaggeration. Not only is the animation awful but the characters are ugly too. Ugly characters...drawn badly and animated poorly. Like they give everyone these round orange noses that makes them all look like horrific uncanny valley human muppets. And I legitimately think they were designed that way because the artist actually can't draw noses. I think that’s a safe assumption because everything looks so poorly drawn. 

Now the crux of why this show is a cancerous and vile blight on entertainment is that it appears to be a show created for the sole purpose of being lgbt propaganda for children. Watching it I can't imagine anyone working on it did any of this for the purpose of earnest entertainment. It's main character is a gay transgender teenager for the sake of introducing children to homosexuality and transgenderism. The park is run by a drag queen to introduce kids to drag. In the second episode like all groomers they seek to separate the kids from their family, they do this by showing the trans character leaving home to live at this gay theme park to seek a new start in their trans lifestyle. In another episode they have groups of children sleeping over at this gay horror park where they summon a demon thing, there is so much summoning of demons in this show it’s ridiculous. Literally just fucking leave kids alone, fuck off I'm so tired of this shit. 

That's not where the inappropriate for children elements end,the show is also too creepy for the age group this is targeted to. There are demons, a possession ceremony with a giant flaming demon that possesses a dog, some weird slenderman demon that oozes a milky white substance from its face. The one demon talks about how it would fun to kill the dog...this isn't child friendly content but it's presented in a child friendly wrapping, to me that makes this show fucked up. In another episode they have a skull that forces them to confront their deepest fears...again not content meant for children. Creepy shows for kids used to involve stuff like werewolves and mummies, now it's demons and deep existential horrors conjured by their own minds...it’s fucked up. 

Kids don't need to be watching a show where characters have HIV and nobody should be watching a show where the messaging of the character is that its okay to sleep around when you have a potentially deadly life altering disease thats transmitted sexually...without telling anyone beforehand. It's not just a bad show, it's not just annoying social politics the creators are actively vile and heinous people seeking to groom and corrupt children.

After watching this and seeing how godawful this pile of shit they want to call a cartoon is I thought I'd do something I don't normally do when writing a review...go look at other reviews. I wanted to see what positive things people could possibly have to say about this...because I can't see a single redeeming quality anywhere in the show at all. Of course the only praise I seem to see for it are political. They praise the show as diverse and queer. That should be telling in and of itself because there are certain people who should be tripping over themselves to excuse all manners of terrible dogshit in this show just for identity reasons. And yet all they can come up with is that they love that the character is trans. They can't even bring themselves to say it's a good or funny show with a trans character because it simply isn't. It's a horrible show and they know it, but they have to say they love it because the character is trans.

It's at the point where they are not just making bad shows, they are actively ruining cartoons. These kinds of shows are so common and available that it's going to become what kids think of when they think of cartoons. We grew up with great cartoons and there would be some you didn't like but most were good... but kids today are growing up where all the cartoons being made look horrible, are boring, unfunny and political. Kids are going to get tired of this and just not watch cartoons anymore. One day kids will look back and hear their parents talk about liking cartoons and wonder why their parents ever liked something as gay as cartoons. Yet again the woke crowd of retards are killing industries with their parasitic, incestuous and cancerously terrible control of said industries.

Not only should you not watch this and not let your kids watch this, cancel Netflix for having this on their service and putting it in the kids section. This show has many demons in it but the worst ones of all were the ones who created it.

My thoughts on sex in YA books

Aka I will be furious if people use this to paint me maliciously.

Prefaces: I don’t support underage sex. I don’t support sexualising minors. I had some very gross experiences as a teenager I wouldn’t want to happen to other people.

So, I’m currently in training with a charity to become a sex educator in U.K. schools. This means I’m the person who comes in, with a dildo and a condom, and shows you how to wrap up. This can happen from any age and we obviously tailor the experience to the age we’re teaching. We teach primary school kids the words for their genitals, how to practise consent in non-sexual scenarios. We also teach senior school young people that sex isn’t the way it looks in porn, that condoms are important for sex even if it isn’t penises in vaginas, and lots of other stuff.

I’m particularly invested because, for disabled and queer kids, this is a really unhelpful practise mostly. Most PSHE classes are like “penis goes in vagina, wear a condom or you’ll get pregnant” or, if you went to a school like mine “don’t have sex before marriage. Google pictures of STDs (yes they still called them that) and scare yourself out of having sex forever”.

So what we tend to use as a way of talking to young people is the media; books, shows, films, anything that we can show them that will promote a healthy discussion and make it accessible to them. We use a combination of all these to craft individual lessons for different age groups.

We talk about the realism and influence of porn, laws around sexting, and portrayals of sex in the media. A show that proves very popular with older kids (though we don’t show it to them as it’s an 18 and we only show 15 rated movies as the highest rating to our oldest students) is Sex Education.

Oh my god Sex Ed has helped SO many of our young people. Would I recommend it to 12 year olds? No, obviously not. But for the 16-18 year olds, it’s not unusual for one of them to bring up Sex Education.

If you asked my generation, or people a little older than me, they’d probably point to Judy Blume books as their own “Sex Education”. For people who don’t know, Blume wrote YA books that covered topics like menstruation, masturbation, and sexuality. Her books have been banned A LOT because of this.

There’s a really excellent old video from John Green (yeah yeah I know people don’t like him on tumblr but it’s an excellent video so) called I Am Not a Pornographer about the banning of his book Looking for Alaska.

This is all to say that it’s not uncommon for us to ban books that are aimed at teenagers that include sex. And what effect does that have? Overwhelmingly, not a great one. In training, we’re shown case studies of children who have had allegations of sexual misconduct ignored because they’ve used obscure words for their genitalia that parents have taught them to be polite. We have girls (SO MANY GIRLS) look appalled at the idea they might masturbate because that’s a BOY thing, that’s what BOYS do, we can’t do that - that’s dirty! We have people who don’t know that condoms aren’t just for penis-in-vagina sex. We have so much misunderstanding. Why? We expose children to the wrong kinds of sexuality.

Young people will find sexual material. That’s a fact. It’s online everywhere. Most easily-accessible porn is not ethically made nor made to show real people having real sex in a healthy manner. But that’s most people’s first example of sex.

If we condemn sexuality in YA books, we put young people at massive risk. I’m not saying let’s put some nipple clamps in Percy Jackson and have Harry Potter be really into BDSM. What I’m saying is that young people need to see healthy, respectful, consensual relationships in books. We need books that show consent as something that isn’t inherently sexual.

The first book I read where I saw a condom being used in sex between two people with penises was in Running With Lions by Julian Winters.

The first show I saw where autistic people were shown to have sex drives was Everything’s Gonna Be Okay.

We can’t shelter young people from sex. We’ve done that, and what’s happened? We’ve had generations of people who refuse to talk about it, and have unwittingly endangered not only themselves but others.

I’m a trainee sex educator and I didn’t know about undetectable = untransmittable until I read Full Disclosure - a YOUNG ADULT book about a teen who is HIV positive.

I was at risk because of this. I let people who had no right to my body and my emotions manipulate me because I didn’t know any better. I wasn’t taught any better. I went to a Christian school where all I knew was sex could hurt me. So when an older adult showed me affection, who could blame me for assuming it was fine?

We need to stop acting like “sex” is a dirty word. Not talking about sex to young people doesn’t make them not have sex - it makes them have uninformed, dangerous sex.

Yes of course there are lines to draw. Yes of course not every book gets it right. Yes of course we need to be extremely critical.

But this gross thing going on right now where we say “adults writing YA where their of-age characters have consensual, safe, healthy sex is wrong” is doing nothing but damage.

LaCour had opened up about his own diabetes diagnosis and how it affected his health and mental outlook. In turn, Bertaccini said he understood how a life-changing diagnosis can depress and scare you—and that he had this insight because he was HIV positive.

LaCour responded with compassion and support, adding that he had never met a person with HIV before.

If men cannot empathize with Mia Khalifa then I wish they would empathize with the life of John Holmes. John Holmes was an all-around terrible human being who used and abused family and friends as much as he was used and abused by the industry he was in. He was the top porn performer in the 70s and he is the basis for Mark Walberg's character in 'Boogie Nights'. Just like that character he was most famed and prized for his penis size.

His fortunes quickly turned because of his free basing that affected his ability to work. He turned to crime, groomed 15-year old Dawn Schiller and forced her into prostitution. By 1980 he was brought into contact with Eddie Nash a drug dealer who owned several night clubs. One of the things Eddie Nash liked to do was to show off Holmes's famous penis at parties. Holmes also may have sealed the fate of the Wonderland Gang and may have been present at the scene. He never told but he was put on trial and eventually aquitted.

He went back to porn but never achieved sucess equal to his peak in the 70s. In 1986 he tested positive for HIV. He died on March 13th, 1988, at age 43.

Women and men have vastly different experiences of the porn industry. With any industry and especially one that is so tied to appearance and performance no one is incentivized to take care you beyond how much profit you can turn. Or as to how you are able to survive when porn ends. I think people, particularly men need to realize that when Mia Khalifa speaks out about what she experienced that it's not an abberation. That no matter how much a male porn star is paid and how positive his experience is he will be thrown away. John Holmes was the most lucrative porn star of the 70s. If you can't find value in what she says then maybe you can think about John Holmes's life.

Iggy

“Yeah, all right. I’ve got it. It’ll be done tonight. No- yeah, yeah, I’ve got it. All right. I’ll call you when it’s done.” Ignacio, better known as Iggy, hung up the phone and headed downtown to the corner of Oak Street and Main Street to grab a pint before work.  He scratched at his well-groomed and coarse black beard and spat on the sidewalk, narrowly missing the Prada shoes on the woman passing by. She gasped and opened her mouth to accost him, but before she could, he growled a baritone, “Fuck you,” the toothpick from last night’s triple deluxe bacon burger still dangling from his bottom lip. The woman shuffled away, shocked and appalled at the rage in his eyes and the hatred in his voice. She knew intuitively that he was not the kind of man you want a confrontation with… the kind of man who is not afraid to hit a woman.

Iggy stared at the ground and carried on toward the diner that he ate at every day, three times a day. It wasn’t as good as Barrigas diner in his hometown of Ciudad Juárez, but he always said it was at least a notch above pig slop. When he arrived, Iggy sat down abruptly, rocking the booth a few inches back across the linoleum flooring. Everyone turned for a second to see what the commotion was, but they all quickly looked away again. The afternoon shift servers were huddled in the corner arguing over who would be serving Iggy that day. “It was my turn yesterday, Sarah. You know the rules. It’s your day. Don’t be such a little bitch about it. We all have to do it.” In most establishments, it’s a common urban legend that if you make the kitchen angry, they’ll spit in your food. Iggy, however, was usually the one doing the expectorating in this case. Every time he ordered, he complained his food was wrong. He’d spit in it, calling it gutter sewage, and demand it be remade. This, of course, was always after he ate the first half of his meal. When he finished, he’d always leave the exact dollar amount in cash on the table, wadded up into a ball. There was never a cent more. Some days, he wouldn’t pay at all. Everyone knew him, everyone hated him, and everyone feared him. 

As was his daily custom, Iggy finished up his meal, left the diner, and headed down the highway, past overpass that overlooked the underbelly of town. Most people avoided this path, deeming it unsavory, as this was where all the junkies hid, passing around dirty needles to plunge under their HIV-infected tongues. Not Iggy. Iggy would routinely take this path to indulge his proclivity for kicking the ever-loving shit out of the beggars whose half-dead bodies littered the train tracks. Everyone needs a hobby, he reasoned. He carried on, ignoring the desperate pleas of those around him. On his way down the alley that led to his home, he noticed a local H dealer camped out in his ’84 Datsun. With little to no hesitation, he punched in the window, sending the dealer into a frenzy of rage. He scrambled for his pistol but Iggy was faster. He grabbed the back of Hollywood’s head and slammed it into the remnants of jagged glass, perforating his left eye. Hollywood yelped like a small dog, and rolled out of the car into the alleyway in the fetal position. Iggy stepped over the crumpled body in front of him and grabbed the keys to the jalopy off of the hook on Hollywood’s tattered jeans before driving off into the sunset like the hero of a bad romantic comedy.

Iggy sped down the highway to his target’s location, five counties away. He had killed 48 people since he was only thirteen. This mark was nothing special to him, save that he was one person closer to his glorious golden kill.  He kicked down the door of the dilapidated house on the corner and began immediately charging toward Jose Villanueva with a Bowie knife in his hand. With unbridled grace and absolutely no sound, Iggy plunged the knife directly into Jose’s carotid artery, prompting the blood to splatter all over his Persian rug as he collapsed to his knees and clutched his neck, erupting into tiny squawks, like a newborn puppy. Iggy had little patience for the process of dying. He made certain that his targets were always quick and clean kills, lest he have to stand around and wait to make sure the job was done. He hated waiting.  As he left the scene of his crime, he knocked over the marble urn of Jose’s grandmother’s ashes that were nestled tightly into the corner of his bookshelf and shuffled his feet through the cloud of remains that lay scattered on the ground. 49.

As he encroached on the fourth and final hour of his drive back home to his studio apartment, he couldn’t help but feel bored. Killing just wasn’t what it used to be for him anymore, but there’s no such thing as a promotion for a hitman. Nothing was a challenge for him anymore, the thrill of the kill was gone. As he tossed a cigarette butt out the window, the light turned red, positioning him fifth in a row of cars directly in front of the train tracks, which he came to a sudden halt in front of. The 85 year old woman behind him stopped abruptly on the tracks. “Dumb broad,” he thought. Then came a rumble in the distance, followed by a bellowing horn. The train was coming straight for Mrs. Cooper. Quickly, the cars in front of Iggy began to pull to the side of the road, one by one, making room for Mrs. Cooper to pull forward, narrowly escaping certain death. The train was now a promised threat, furiously approaching the Station Wagon resting directly over the steel tracks. All that remained was for Iggy to pull a mere three feet to the side, leaving room for Mrs. Cooper to pull forward, effectively saving her fragile life. He thought back to the hollow in him, and the longing for the kind of shock that kills once brought him. He desperately missed that icy feeling in his veins. People had now begun congregating in the street, beckoning Mrs. Cooper to exit her car as quickly as she could, but her hip replacements rendered her legs nearly useless. Panic filled the air. With a smile on his face, Iggy realized that this was it. This was his golden kill. He calmly engaged his parking brake to ensure that his stolen car wouldn’t move. For the first time in years, he felt that icy thrill. He leapt from the Datsun and darted away, the sound of his frantic footsteps echoing through his ears. His heart raced as he disappeared into labyrinth of alleyways in the distance with a schoolgirl smile on his face. Then there came a sound. Distant first, then grew into a howl that engulfed miles around. Bystanders screamed in horror. Limbs catapulted forward and backward, while the rest of what was Mrs. Cooper only seconds before was liquidated, dripping from the mangled car parts now fused with the front of the screeching train. Iggy stopped behind a dumpster and surveyed the area. No one had followed him. They had all been too caught up in the horror that we all feed on to make our lives more meaningful in some way to notice which direction he’d gone. Iggy scoffed to himself, lit another cigarette, and put his boot to the ground toward the diner. 50.
