Common Mistakes to Avoid in PSD to HTML Email Conversion
Transforming a Photoshop PSD to HTML email demands careful consideration and attention to detail. To achieve a successful conversion, it's essential to steer clear of common mistakes. This includes ensuring your email is responsive, optimizing image files, and conducting comprehensive testing across various email clients and devices. Prioritizing accessibility and adhering to legal requirements is equally important. Keeping your HTML and CSS code clean and efficient, along with providing fallbacks for unsupported features, plays a vital role in crafting an email campaign that is not only visually appealing but also dependable. By avoiding these pitfalls, you can enhance the effectiveness and reliability of your email communication.

Migrating Off Evernote
Evernote, a web-based notes app, recently introduced super-restrictive controls on free accounts, after laying off a number of staff and introducing AI features, all of which is causing a lot of people to migrate off the platform. I haven't extensively researched alternative sites, so I can't offer a full resource there (readers, feel free to drop your alternative sites in notes or reblogs), but because I have access to OneNote both in my professional and personal life, I decided to migrate my Evernote there.
I use them for very different things -- Evernote I use exclusively as a personal fanfic archive, because it stores fics I want to save privately both as full-text files and as links. OneNote I have traditionally used for professional purposes, mainly for taking meeting notes and storing information I need (excel formulas, how-tos for things I don't do often in our database, etc). But while Evernote had some nicer features it was essentially a OneNote clone, and OneNote has a webclipper, so I've created an account with OneNote specifically to store my old Evernote archive and any incoming fanfic I want to archive in future.
Microsoft discontinued the tool that it offered for migrating Evernote to OneNote directly, but research turned up a reliable and so-far trustworthy independent tool that I wanted to share. You export all your Evernote notebooks as ENEX files, then download the tool and unzip it, open the exe file, and import the ENEX one by one on a computer where you already have the desktop version of OneNote installed. I had no problem with the process, although some folks with older systems might.
I suspect I might need to do some cleanup post-import but some of that is down to how Evernote fucked around with tags a while ago, and so far looking through my notes it appears to have imported formatting, links, art, and other various aspects of each clipped note without a problem. I also suspect that Evernote will not eternally allow free users to export their notebooks so if nothing else I'd back up your notebooks to ENEX or HTML files sooner rather than later.
I know the number of people who were using Free Evernote and have access to OneNote is probably pretty small, but if I found it useful I thought others might too.

Мохноногий сыч в зимнем лесу. Great-footed owl in the winter forest.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
The great-footed owl is one of the smallest representatives of the owl family. The size of the bird on average does not exceed the size of a pigeon and the weight of the bird does not exceed 200 g. The length of representatives of the subspecies can vary from 21 to 27 cm. The wingspan is 55-62 cm. The tail length ranges from 7 to 11 cm. Life expectancy in natural conditions is 5-7 years. In captivity it lives a little longer. Birds raised in captivity are well tamed. But it is extremely difficult to obtain offspring under such conditions. It is very rare to get chicks.
The great-footed owl prefers to settle in mountainous or flat areas. The presence of coniferous plants is very important, although it is often found in mixed forests. The owl leads a sedentary lifestyle, but if cold weather sets in, it can migrate to more southern areas rich in prey. In the case when this is not possible, and the owl spends the winter where it lives, it prefers to stay closer to human settlements.

SysNotes devlog 1
Hiya! We're a web developer by trade and we wanted to build ourselves a web-app to manage our system and to get to know each other better. We thought it would be fun to make a sort of a devlog on this blog to show off the development! The working title of this project is SysNotes (but better ideas are welcome!)
Tumblr media
What SysNotes is✅:
A place to store profiles of all of our parts
A tool to figure out who is in front
A way to explore our inner world
A private chat similar to PluralKit
A way to combine info about our system with info about our OCs etc as an all-encompassing "brain-world" management system
A personal and tailor-made tool made for our needs
What SysNotes is not❌:
A fronting tracker (we see no need for it in our system)
A social media where users can interact (but we're open to make it so if people are interested)
A public platform that can be used by others (we don't have much experience actually hosting web-apps, but will consider it if there is enough interest!)
An offline app
So if this sounds interesting to you, you can find the first devlog below the cut (it's a long one!):
(I have used word highlighting and emojis as it helps me read large chunks of text, I hope it's alright with y'all!)
Tech stack & setup (feel free to skip if you don't care!)
The project is set up using:
Database: MySQL 8.4.3
Language: PHP 8.3
Framework: Laravel 10 with Breeze (authentication and user accounts) and Livewire 3 (front end integration)
Styling: Tailwind v4
I tried to set up Laragon to easily run the backend, but I ran into issues so I'm just running "php artisan serve" for now and using Laragon to run the DB. Also I'm compiling styles in real time with "npm run dev". Speaking of the DB, I just migrated the default auth tables for now. I will be making app-related DB tables in the next devlog. The awesome thing about Laravel is its Breeze starter kit, which gives you fully functioning authentication and basic account management out of the box, as well as optional Livewire to integrate server-side processing into HTML in the sexiest way. This means that I could get all the boring stuff out of the way with one terminal command. Win!
Styling and layout (for the UI nerds - you can skip this too!)
I changed the default accent color from purple to orange (personal preference) and used an emoji as a placeholder for the logo. I actually kinda like the emoji AS a logo so I might keep it.
Laravel Breeze came with a basic dashboard page, which I expanded with a few containers for the different sections of the page. I made use of the components that come with Breeze to reuse code for buttons etc throughout the code, and made new components as the need arose. Man, I love clean code 😌
I liked the dotted default Laravel page background, so I added it to the dashboard to create the look of a bullet journal. I like the journal-type visuals for this project as it goes with the theme of a notebook/file. I found the code for it here.
I also added some placeholder menu items for the pages that I would like to have in the app - Profile, (Inner) World, Front Decider, and Chat.
Tumblr media
i ran into an issue dynamically building Tailwind classes such as class="bg-{{$activeStatus['color']}}-400" - turns out dynamically-created classes aren't supported, even if they're constructed in the component rather than the blade file. You learn something new every day huh…
Tumblr media
Also, coming from Tailwind v3, "ps-*" and "pe-*" were confusing to get used to since my muscle memory is "pl-*" and "pr-*" 😂
Feature 1: Profiles page - proof of concept
This is a page where each alter's profiles will be displayed. You can switch between the profiles by clicking on each person's name. The current profile is highlighted in the list using a pale orange colour.
Tumblr media
The logic for the profiles functionality uses a Livewire component called Profiles, which loads profile data and passes it into the blade view to be displayed. It also handles logic such as switching between the profiles and formatting data. Currently, the data is hardcoded into the component using an associative array, but I will be converting it to use the database in the next devlog.
Tumblr media
New profile (TBC)
You will be able to create new profiles on the same page (this is yet to be implemented). My vision is that the New Alter form will unfold under the button, and fold back up again once the form has been submitted.
Alter name, pronouns, status
The most interesting component here is the status, which is currently set to a hardcoded list of "active", "dormant", and "unknown". However, I envision this to be a customisable list where I can add new statuses to the list from a settings menu (yet to be implemented).
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Alter image
I wanted the folder that contained alter images and other assets to be outside of my Laravel project, in the Pictures folder of my operating system. I wanted to do this so that I can back up the assets folder whenever I back up my Pictures folder lol (not for adding/deleting the files - this all happens through the app to maintain data integrity!). However, I learned that Laravel does not support that and it will not be able to see my files because they are external. I found a workaround by using symbolic links (symlinks) 🔗. Basically, they allow to have one folder of identical contents in more than one place. I ran "mklink /D [external path] [internal path]" to create the symlink between my Pictures folder and Laravel's internal assets folder, so that any files that I add to my Pictures folder automatically copy over to Laravel's folder. I changed a couple lines in filesystems.php to point to the symlinked folder:
Tumblr media
And I was also getting a "404 file not found" error - I think the issue was because the port wasn't originally specified. I changed the base app URL to the localhost IP address in .env:
Tumblr media
…And after all this messing around, it works!
(My Pictures folder)
Tumblr media
(My Laravel storage)
Tumblr media
(And here is Alice's photo displayed - dw I DO know Ibuki's actual name)
Tumblr media
Alter description and history
The description and history fields support HTML, so I can format these fields however I like, and add custom features like tables and bullet point lists.
Tumblr media
This is done by using blade's HTML preservation tags "{!! !!}" as opposed to the plain text tags "{{ }}".
(Here I define Alice's description contents)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
(And here I insert them into the template)
Tumblr media
Traits, likes, dislikes, front triggers
These are saved as separate lists and rendered as fun badges. These will be used in the Front Decider (anyone has a better name for it?? 🤔) tool to help me identify which alter "I" am as it's a big struggle for us. Front Decider will work similar to FlowCharty.
Tumblr media
What next?
There's lots more things I want to do with SysNotes! But I will take it one step at a time - here is the plan for the next devlog:
Setting up database tables for the profile data
Adding the "New Profile" form so I can create alters from within the app
Adding ability to edit each field on the profile
I tried my best to explain my work process in a way that wold somewhat make sense to non-coders - if you have any feedback for the future format of these devlogs, let me know!
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Disclaimers:
I have not used AI in the making of this app and I do NOT support the Vibe Coding mind virus that is currently on the loose. Programming is a form of art, and I will defend manual coding until the day I die.
Any alter data found in the screenshots is dummy data that does not represent our actual system.
I will not be making the code publicly available until it is a bit more fleshed out, this so far is just a trial for a concept I had bouncing around my head over the weekend.
We are SYSCOURSE NEUTRAL! Please don't start fights under this post
Note
why is the bbcode always kinda hard to use? i know the site says that you're aware of the issues, but it's been like this for a few years. are there any plans to fix it?
Personally, I'm not an expert on BBCode, though I've always found it extremely finicky. However, we do have plans to migrate to HTML! It's one of the perks for our Tier 3 goal.
Best Regards Neptune Motion Causes Negative Effects On The Solar System https://app.box.com/s/bktuna1ou3p75eql6pz93wgaiy9y1h8w or https://app.box.com/s/jw9x01pwb7a31evfmpkbc20lmcfpfcpg or https://gerges2022.livejournal.com/253651.html Paper Question Why Should We Analyze Neptune Orbit And Its Motion? The Question answer Neptune original orbit was 5906 million km which is Pluto Current Orbit For that- the analysis for Neptune Current Orbit (4495 million km) will provide strong proves for many new facts I have discovered in the solar system –let's refer to them shortly in following and then I should explain in details later 1 Planet Is Created In Its Orbit And Planet Is Created From Its Orbit Energy – for that Planet creation data is created depending on its orbit data- for that reason- Neptune creation data refers frequently to the orbit 5906 million km because Neptune is created in this orbit 2 Neptune Orbit Analysis tells us The Solar System Ancient History 3 Neptune Orbit Analysis proves the solar planets orbits are created by one energy and this energy is provided by one light beam and this light beam moves by speed 1.16 million km per second- shortly- Neptune orbit analysis proves the space creation needs a motion by speed 1.16 million km per second 4 Neptune Orbit Analysis proves the space properties are defined depending on the energy motion direction from which this space is created- means- If (E1) is energy moves in direction (x-axis) and (E2) is another energy moves in the opposite direction and both energies are used to create two distances- the two distances will be created reflected on each other because the energies move in the opposite direction to each other- (Neptune Orbit Is Reflected On The Other Planets Orbits) 5 Neptune Orbit Analysis Proves The Planets Orbits Are Redistributed After Neptune Orbit Creation 6 Neptune motion analysis proves Neptune motion causes negative effects on the solar system and all its planets motions and data In following let's explain these facts in details
New Fact No. 1 Planet is created in its orbit and from its orbit energy For that, planet creation data is belonged to its orbit and if this planet left its original orbit and migrate to another orbit this planet creation data will refer frequently to its original orbit because the planet is created from this orbit energy- shortly- planet is similar to a tree planted in some ground and the planet orbit is this ground- this fact can cause a great change in the physics book Planet orbital distance isn't defined by this planet mass (Newton is wrong) – in fact planet is created in its orbit – let's write my theory in details My theory tells (Planet is created in its orbit and from its orbit energy)- we see the logical thinking in this theory because- Planet matter is created of energy (E=mc^2) and the space is energy- for that-I suppose-the matter and space are created from the same energy in fact- the space is similar to the sea of water and the matter is similar to a whirlpool or vortex is found on the sea page- the whirlpool (vortex) is created from the sea water but it has a distinguished picture from the sea waves and it moves by different velocity from the sea waves motion velocity- The logical thinking can be seen clearly- because the matter and space are created of energy for that I suppose the planet matter and its orbit space both are created from the same energy- for that- my theory tells (Planet is created in its orbit and from its orbit energy) Now- suppose this is a fact that (Planet Is Created In Its Orbit) what's the useful result we can get? logically, planet creation data is defined based on its orbit data- let's return to the whirlpool (vortex) on the sea page- we have a whirlpool its diameter is 2 meters- why does this whirlpool diameter = 2 meters? The whirlpool diameter is defined based on the water motion features- means- the water motion velocity, pressure, amount ..etc Shortly the whirlpool diameter is defined by the water motion features- and if the water motion features are changed that will cause to change the whirlpool diameter or may cause to perish it completely- Shortly- I want to say- planet creation data is defined by its motion This fact is proved clearly by my planet diameter equation- let's remember it My Planet Diameter Equation (v1/v2)= (s/r)= I v = Planet Velocity r = Planet Diameter I= Planet Orbital Inclination s= Planet Rotation Periods Number In Its Orbital Period v2, s, r and I are belonged to one planet and v1 is belonged to another planet The planet (v1) is defined by test the minimum error Earth Equation uses Neptune velocity Mars Equation uses Pluto velocity Jupiter Equation uses the Earth moon velocity Saturn Equation uses Mars velocity Uranus Equation uses Neptune velocity (As Earth) Neptune Equation uses Saturn velocity Pluto Equation uses the Earth moon velocity (As Jupiter) Example Neptune Equation (89143 /49528) = 9.7/ 5.4 =1.8 89143 = Neptune rotation periods number in Neptune orbital period 49528 km = Neptune diameter 9.7 km/s = Saturn velocity 5.4 km/s = Neptune velocity 1.8 degrees= Neptune Orbital Inclination 59800 days = Neptune orbital period (and Neptune rotation period =16.1 hours) (CONT) Gerges Francis Tawdrous +201022532292 Physics Department- Physics & Mathematics Faculty Peoples' Friendship university of Russia – Moscow E-mail [email protected] [email protected] ORCID https://orcid.org/0000-0002-1041-7147 Facebook https://www.facebook.com/gergis.tawadrous VK https://vk.com/id696655587 Tumblr https://www.tumblr.com/blog/itsgerges Livejournal https://gerges2022.livejournal.com/profile Pocket https://getpocket.com/@646g8dZ0p3aX5Ad1bsTr4d9THjA5p6a5b2fX99zd54g221E4bs76eBdtf6aJw5d0?src=navbar box https://app.box.com/s/47fwd0gshir636xt0i3wpso8lvvl8vnv Academia https://rudn.academia.edu/GergesTawadrous Publications http://vixra.org/author/gerges_francis_tawdrous Slideshare https://www.slideshare.net/Gergesfrancis
Are Game Blogs Uniquely Lost?
All this started with my looking for the old devlog of Storyteller. I know at some point it was linked from the blogroll on the Braid devlog. Then I tried to look at on old devlog of another game that is still available. The domain for Storyteller is still active. The devblog is gone.
I tried an old bookmark from an old PC (5 PCs ago, I think). It was a web site linked to pixel art and programming tutorials. Instead of linking to the pages directly, some links link led to a twitter threads by authors that collected their work posted on different sites. Some twitter threads are gone because the users were were suspended, or had deleted their accounts voluntarily. Others had deleted old tweets. There was no archive. I have often seen links accompanied by "Here's a thread where $AUTHOR lists all his writing on $TOPIC". I wonder if the sites are still there, and only the tweets are gone.
A lot of "games studies" around 2010 happened on blogs, not in journals. Games studies was online-first, HTML-first, with trackbacks, tags, RSS and comment sections. The work that was published in PDF form in journals and conference proceedings is still there. The blogs are gone. The comment sections are gone. Kill screen daily is gone.
I followed a link from critical-distance.com to a blog post. That blog is gone. The domain is for sale. In the Wayback Machine, I found the link. It pointed to the comment section of another blog. The other blog has removed its comment sections and excluded itself from the Wayback Machine.
I wonder if games stuff is uniquely lost. Many links to game reviews at big sites lead to "page not found", but when I search the game's name, I can find the review from back in 2004. The content is still there, the content management systems have been changed multiple times.
At least my favourite tumblr about game design has been saved in the Wayback Machine: Game Design Tips.
To make my point I could list more sites, more links, 404 but archived, or completely lost, but when I look at small sites, personal sites, blogs, or even forums, I wonder if this is just confirmation bias. There must be all this other content, all these other blogs and personal sites. I don't know about tutorials for knitting, travel blogs, stamp collecting, or recipe blogs. I usually save a print version of recipes to my Download folder.
Another big community is fan fiction. They are like modding, but for books, I think. I don't know if a lot of fan fiction is lost to bit rot and link rot either. What is on AO3 will probably endure, but a lot might have gone missing when communities fandom moved from livejournal to tumblr to twitter, or when blogs moved from Wordpress to Medium to Substack.
I have identified some risk factors:
Personal home pages made from static HTML can stay up for while if the owner meticulously catalogues and links to all their writing on other sites, and if the site covers a variety of interests and topics.
Personal blogs or content management systems are likely to lose content in a software upgrade or migration to a different host.
Writing is more likely to me lost when it's for-pay writing for a smaller for-profit outlet.
A cause for sudden "mass extinction" of content is the move between social networks, or the death of a whole platform. Links to MySpace, Google+, Diaspora, and LiveJournal give me mostly or entirely 404 pages.
In the gaming space, career changes or business closures often mean old content gets deleted. If an indie game is wildly successful, the intellectual property might ge acquired. If it flops, the domain will lapse. When development is finished, maybe the devlog is deleted. When somebody reviews games at first on Steam, then on a blog, and then for a big gaming mag, the Steam reviews might stay up, but the personal site is much more likely to get cleaned up. The same goes for blogging in general, and academia. The most stable kind of content is after hours hobbyist writing by somebody who has a stable and high-paying job outside of media, academia, or journalism.
The biggest risk factor for targeted deletion is controversy. Controversial, highly-discussed and disseminated posts are more likely to be deleted than purely informative ones, and their deletion is more likely to be noticed. If somebody starts a discussion, and then later there are hundreds of links all pointing back to the start, the deletion will hurt more and be more noticeable. The most at-risk posts are those that are supposed to be controversial within a small group, but go viral outside it, or the posts that are controversial within a small group, but then the author says something about politics that draws the attention of the Internet at large to their other writings.
The second biggest risk factor for deletion is probably usefulness combined with hosting costs. This could also be the streetlight effect at work, like in the paragraph above, but the more traffic something gets, the higher the hosting costs. Certain types of content are either hard to monetise, and cost a lot of money, or they can be monetised, so the free version is deliberately deleted.
The more tech-savvy users are, the more likely they are to link between different sites, abandon a blogging platform or social network for the next thing, try to consolidate their writings by deleting their old stuff and setting up their own site, only to let the domain lapse. The more tech-savvy users are, the more likely they are to mess with the HTML of their templates or try out different blogging software.
If content is spread between multiple sites, or if links link to social network posts that link to blog post with a comment that links to a reddit comment that links to a geocities page, any link could break. If content is consolidated in a forum, maybe Archive team could save all of it with some advance notice.
All this could mean that indie games/game design theory/pixel art resources are uniquely lost, and games studies/theory of games criticism/literary criticism applied to games are especially affected by link rot. The semi-professional, semi-hobbyist indie dev, the writer straddling the line between academic and reviewer, they seem the most affected. Artists who start out just doodling and posting their work, who then get hired to work on a game, their posts are deleted. GameFAQs stay online, Steam reviews stay online, but dev logs, forums and blog comment sections are lost.
Or maybe it's only confirmation bias. If I was into restoring old cars, or knitting, or collecting stamps, or any other thing I'd think that particular community is uniquely affected by link rot, and I'd have the bookmarks to prove it.
Figuring this out is important if we want to make predictions about the future of the small web, and about the viability of different efforts to get more people to contribute. We can't figure it out now, because we can't measure the ground truth of web sites that are already gone. Right now, the small web is mostly about the small web, not about stamp collecting or knitting. If we really manage to revitalise the small web, will it be like the small web of today except bigger, the web-1.0 of old, or will certain topics and communities be lost again?
this may just be a mobile tumblr thing but the link to your tagslist page in the FAQ didn't exist supposedly
Yeah that's a mobile thing. You can add html/text pages to your blog theme on desktop but there's no way to see them on mobile (they just send you back to the main blog page) which infuriates me to no end (shaking my fist at tumblr fr)
I had to migrate my faq and warning page (and am still in the process of doing it with my character page...) to neocities for that exact reason (site isn't optimized for mobile but it's at least viewable) but I haven't done it for the tag list yet. Been thinking abt adding a fandom/rec list page to my neocities (as half the point of the tag list is just listing which fandoms I'm familiar with) and a basic tag directory to my pinned, but haven't gotten around to it yet
Anyways, all that is to say- thanks for the heads up! I really do appreciate it, But unfortunately it's simply that tumblr fucking sucks.
Until I make a workaround the only option is navigating to it in a browser, sadly. I'll try adding a basic tag directory to my pinned when I get the chance so ppl can at least find the basic stuff easier 💛
Hello! Do you have any advice on where to start to learn Greek history ? I have a book that starts with the Minoan Civilization, is that a good starting point?
Yeah, I would consider it a great starting point!
So, regarding source hunting (I'm linking everything at the bottom):
1) JSTOR - Digital library of academic journals- needs an account
2) AUTH's digital library - More modern history heavy and solely in Greek (unfortunately)
3) Wikipaedia, Wikibooks, Wikisource etc. - always in combination with another source ofc
4) Internet Archive
5) Last but not least, storebuying or borrowing books from libraries, each with their own advantage; you may take notes directly on the book with the former while the latter is cost-efficient.
Regarding specific sources:
1) Directly from contemporary authors (it'd be preferable if you found a copy of their work with notes).
2) Oxford University's handbook of the Bronze Age Aegean
Unfortunately I don't have any other sources to recommend as I never note them done after reading them 🥲
A thing I did was use the school books as a jumping board (you can't look for something if you don't know it exists!), which have been digitalised by the ministry of education, but the translation's gonna be painful.
(I find these fascinating, although you could probs find a complete list somewhere)
(These are the digitalised school books and Google translate on mobile actually does an okay-ish job.)
You could also always use my stuff as a jumping board
A while ago (almost exactely a year ago) I developed this game menu mock-up. It was programmed in html and actually allowed keyboard control.
I wanted to create an interface that felt deliberatly “graphic-design-y.” I tried to actually built this in UE5 but it didn’t work out as well. But later I migrated to Godot and the font support is just leagues better. I can use all the custom ligatures in the serif font without any issues. I was able to recreate the animations and the general layout, but I think the sizes don’t fit well yet.
Tumblr media
It doesn’t bother me too much, as this game is in such an early stage, it can’t even be called prototype. This is more for learning the basics of working in Godot. And considering what a hotch-potch of plugins, hacked-together script and half-done solutions this is, I’m pretty happy that I was able to be this close to the initial idea. Right now my problem is, that I still don’t really know the theme of this game, so creating an interface that matches said theme is difficult : )
I think next year I will be able to give this project some more time. This year was simply too full with other projects with a higher priority. And this kinda makes me feel old. I need to plan for next year to do something that I want to do : ( Guess that is part of the experience.
webdev log uhhhh... 6?
Haven't worked on my site in a bit because I think I fucked up somewhere in during the deployment phase so now it's hard to host it locally.... only the index page works and the css is half broken anyways, presumably because of laravel breeze's tailwind coming preinstalled. I DID have to jump through hoops to get it going during deployment.. just don't know which hoops so it's stuck that way >_>;; so now I can't host it locally for development......... I'll have to make things and just hope it shows up when I deploy them I think
cool, cool. thanks. very helpful debugging message..
anyways, coded up a little php doohicky and updated my site! WANNA PEEK?
I wanted to migrate my fridge page (art others have done of my characters) to my site, but I didn't want to implement another table because YUCK I'm so done with that.
I wanted something more automatic because I'm lazy and I also wanted it to not look like it's from 2003 like my neocities to match with my new site. too much trouble!!!! including the stuff previously mentioned.. so I left it untouched for a while.
then I was talking with someone and wanted to try making this with php.....
Tumblr media
it's pretty basic. finished the code for the script in like an hour maybe, and then later it was mostly just tinkering with the html/css itself to make it display all nice and grid-like.
all it does is take all images from a specified folder and spits them out.
it creates a DirectoryIterator object to iterate through the specified folder (at least, I think that's how DirectoryIterator works.... dunno) then for each individual file it checks if it's an image, gets the time the file was modified, then stores the file path and modified time in an array. then that array gets sorted via modified time (newest first), and then iterated through and BAM...
I'd prefer a better time system such as organize when the file was actually created, but if you paste a file into a new folder, "created time" gets changed to when you pasted it.. using file modified time is the only way when you aren't using a database and just want this to be all done automatically I think. unless I'M STUPID and someone has a better idea.. then please enlighten me.
ANYWAYS added The Fridge to my site using my lil code! :>
Tumblr media
updated my About to include a link too...
also, I was looking up things and found this funny example code on stack overflow
Tumblr media
let's all randomize our racism images.....
БРАЖНИКИ: ВИННЫЙ. Elephant Hawk-moth.
Бражник винный, или бражник средний винный (Deilephila elpenor) — бабочка из семейства бражников (Sphingidae). Латинское название Deilephila elpenor винный бражник получил в честь героя мифологии: Эльпенор — друг Одиссея, возвращавшийся с ним из Трои; погиб, упав с крыши дворца волшебницы Цирцеи. Винный бражник отлично летает, один из самых быстрых летунов не только среди бабочек, но и среди насекомых в целом. Может развивить скорость до 60 км/ч! А во время миграции способен преодолевать расстояние в несколько тысяч километров.
Винный бражник — одна из самых крупных бабочек в мире. Размах крыльев 50—70 мм. Передние крылья оливково-зелёные, с розовым полем у внешнего края и двумя розоватыми полосами, следующими от заднего края к вершине крыла. Задние крылья розовые, с чёрным основанием. Тело зеленоватое, с розовыми полосками. Эта необычайно интересная на вид бабочка обитает в Европе, включая юг Урала. Во время опасности бражники могут начать громко и отчаянно пищать для отпугивания потенциальной угрозы. Удивительное насекомое является очень редким и охраняется на законодательном уровне.
The Elephant Hawk-moth (Deilephila elpenor) is a butterfly from the hawk moth family (Sphingidae). The Latin name Deilephila elpenor was given to the Elephant Hawk-moth in honor of the hero of mythology: Elpenor is a friend of Odysseus, who returned with him from Troy; he died after falling from the roof of the palace of the sorceress Circe. The Elephant Hawk-moth moth flies perfectly, one of the fastest flyers not only among butterflies, but also among insects in general. It can reach speeds of up to 60 km/h! And during migration, it is able to cover a distance of several thousand kilometers.
The Elephant Hawk-moth is one of the largest butterflies in the world. The wingspan is 50-70 mm. The forewings are olive green, with a pink margin at the outer edge and two pinkish stripes following from the posterior edge to the apex of the wing. The hindwings are pink, with a black base. The body is greenish, with pink stripes. This extremely interesting-looking butterfly lives in Europe, including the south of the Urals. During a time of danger, hawk moths may begin to squeak loudly and desperately to scare off a potential threat. The amazing insect is very rare and is protected by law.
