The Flash vol 1 #168 "One of Our Green Lanterns is Missing!"

It's a real good one. It gives a historical precedent for the Guardians trusting Barry.

For context 1967 and Barry and Iris have recently been married and moved in together.

"Thoughtful of Iris! She knows I've been worried about Hal ! We received a letter from him last week saying he was on his way to Central City to visit Iris and me in our new house..."

"But since then there's been no sign of him ! And that's not like Hal-- To act in such a manner !" But I suppose his duties as Green Lantern-- which Iris knows nothing about-- intervened! At least I hope that's the reason ! ... Either I'm having an hallucaination-- or I'm looking at one of the Guardians of the Universe Hal told me about !"

"I am one of the Guardians, Barry Allen-- seeking Hal Jordan, the Green Lantern of this sector of the cosmos!"

So Barry and Iris are incredibly worried about where Hal could be at since he said he was going to visit them and was a no show. Now one of the Guardians of the universe has popped down to see Barry and ask for his help.

"You mean-- something is wrong? Hal is missing!?"

"Yes ! And his power battery too! In our efforts to regain contact with him, we thought of you! We are aware of course that from time to time you have teamed up with him as The Flash ! My mission is to enlist your aid in finding Hal Jordan!"

So Barry agrees of course to help find Hal and even tells Iris he's too upset about receiving no word from Hal to work tonight.

The next morning Iris is just saying how she thinks it's "strange Barry, that there's still been no word at all from Hal--"

When on the tv they show off a fisherman with who could it be but Hal Jordan. And Iris in shocked starting at the tv says "Barry, get down to the dock-- on the double! What are you waiting for?" And Barry of course runs out faster than on the double to get Hal.

So the Flash hits the docks says Hal Jordan ! And realizes Hal lost his memory and the Fisherman who found Hal is like cool go with the Flash kid

Barry takes Hal back to the hotel he figures he's staying at and finds the Lantern Hal stashed away and tells him in the vaugest most suggestive way possible what they're gonna do.

"Hal, please do exactly as I say-- even though you do not understand! A great deal depends on what we're about to do-- believe me ! But we must do it right ! come-- this way--"

"Why are we kneeling down--?" Great question Hal I love that you do it anyways

"Hal, you must repeat after me exactly what I am about to say..."

In brightest day, in blackest night and well you get the rest. Barry says the Lantern's vow while holding Hal's half up to the lantern and it fixes his memory. Hal gets dressed Barry lounges on the back of a chair.

"Green Lantern, it may take the two of us to handle the super-crime! How about joining me?"

"If you didn't ask, Flash-- I'd insist!"

So they go beat up the bad guys Kabam

And then Hal takes Iris and Barry out onto the boat to show them how to fish. And The Guardians are pleased The Flash was successful and clearly know they can rely on him again in the future.

"Green Lantern, don't run out on me! Without you I'm helpless against these super-armed crooks!"

I'd also just like the point out this click bait dramatic ass break up style cover. Absolutely not what happened in the issue it's really good

Hal/Barry/Iris for the ship ask game?

Thank you for the ask!! For Hal/Barry/Iris I do in fact ship it!

1. What made you ship it?

Tumblr was definitely the first thing to introduce the ship to me, but honestly just drawing the three of them together is what got me interested. They have such a fun dynamic and it’s really cool to draw :)

2. What’s your favorite thing about the ship?

Their dynamic is so interesting bc of what each of these characters bring to the table. Barry and Iris work well bc Iris is one of the few people who can get Barry off of his bullshit. Barry tends to prioritize others over himself, often to an insane degree, and Iris’s confidence and confrontational attitude often doesn’t allow him to do that. She def know how to handle her tone, and knows when to be kind or harsh to Barry, plus everyone else, making her excellent at cutting through bullshit. Hal and Barry function as two people who can relate to one another massively, and often can notice things in the other before they even notice it themselves. It makes them excellent at catching when the other is struggling, and their mutual respect and adoration is what drives them to bring problems up to help one another. Despite this, Hal can be flighty, especially when it comes to his own issues, and Barry can be so absorbed in his own guilt to recognize the people around him who care. I think both would benefit from loving someone who knows how to call them on their bullshit and actually force people to talk about issues.

Either way, adding Iris to Halbarry, or Hal to newsflash fixes a lot of issues that might become apparent in these relationships.

3. Is there an unpopular opinion you have on your ship?

I actually have two. First of all, I’ve never really found much content that I like of this trio. I haven’t read every single fanfic of it, but the ones I have don’t really spark my interest. The fan art tends to be a lot cuter, but something still always feels like it’s missing. This is not the fault of the writers or artists, it’s simply just my own taste.

That leads me to controversial opinion two, I think Hal/Barry/Iris/Carol is WAY better. I feel like adding Carol in fixes a lot of my problems, mostly bc I don’t like how sometimes Iris feels like she doesn’t have a ton of agency in the relationship, and for some reason, to me, her being in love with Carol really fixes it. The relationship doesn’t feel as lopsided with two people Barry really likes.

To end this off, while I do enjoy Hal/Barry/Iris, I do prefer a lot of other ships over it, but I still like and ship this one. It’s def not my OTP, but it has a lot of potential, and I wish there was more content of it so I could engage with it more

opinions on HalBarryIris as compared to HalBarry with Iris out of the picture?

I haven’t really read that much halbarryiris fic tbh, and I know even less abt Iris than I do abt Barry. What I will say is: I think both are equally cute and wholesome, for different reasons. To me, Halbarry is one of the classic Hal ships and the dynamic where Barry inspires Hal to be a better person is really sweet & Halbarryiris is like peak polyam ship dynamic where it’s a previously established couple luring in a skittish, insecure third whom they love very much.
