How Millennials Will Influence Positive Change in 2019
By: Kent Bradley, M.D., M.B.A, M.P.H., Vice President, Medical Affairs Nutrition Education, Herbalife Nutrition
By now, you probably have in mind a new type of training or cuisine you want to try. We often talk about fitness and nutrition trends, but is there such a thing as social support trend?
I’d like to think there is, and millennials are the heartbeat of it. This purpose-driven generation tends to care more about the environment and social responsibility.
This trend of people being more aware of their impact on the world is really an evolution based on significant experiences that have shaped an entire generation. Millennials are digital natives. They witnessed the economic hardships of 2008 and the Global War on Terrorism that began in 2001. Those factors seem to have crafted a generation that has a greater focus on self-care, wisdom in the crowd over authority, and a desire to simply make life better for themselves and others.
By 2025, millennials could represent up to 75% of the workforce. Can you imagine how this massive demographic shift will transform the world? In 2019, we will begin to spot some of these changes:
 Ethical Consumption
A study by Nielsen revealed that 73% of millennials are willing to spend more on a product if it comes from a sustainable brand. But this goes well beyond sustainability or corporate social responsibility.
Concerns about farming practices, animal welfare, food safety supply chain ethics and accountability may likely shift our diets to be more plant-based. Roughly 26% of millennials identify as vegan or vegetarians.
Consumers are trying to be responsible citizens of the world, and they expect the same from corporations.
Social Influence on Nutrition and Health
Humans have always had a need to belong, to be a part of something. It is in our nature to be social; groups provide us with identity and a support system.
There is wisdom in the community: the crowd is wiser than any single participant, simply because it adds up everyone’s knowledge, experience, and information.
When it comes to health, fitness, and nutrition, consumers will look to their peers and networks for news, advice, and testimonials. Inspiring stories of weight loss, gains, and recovery will be stronger than any type of advertising.
This is apparent when we look at the internet and social media. Key opinion leaders are still valued but in different ways than before. They are valued for their input, rather than their degree or status.  Authority is garnered by how you interact, contribute, and relate with the tribe – not your position of authority garnered by titles.
Take a look at influencers on Instagram and YouTube, who discuss workouts, recipes, diet success and body transformations. These stories inspire and give hope. Because of social learning, some people have taken a first step at attempting a healthier lifestyle.
 Inclusive Betterment
Finally, because everything is connected, we are becoming less focused on winning at the expense of others.
Goals are set more in the context of evolving as a community. I call this “betterment.” In a more self-reflective way, there will be a push to connect our actions to a more inclusive goal of making life better for everyone.
We will see terms like “Individual Social Responsibility” take off. This encompasses two basic attitudes:
Minimizing our negative impact on others
The positive benefits we bring to society in general
This goes beyond volunteering. It includes our consumption decisions, vacation choices, and awareness of our environmental footprint.
Sure, we will still want to make life and health better for ourselves, but lavish lifestyles will become increasingly shunned by the crowd as it goes counter to the notion of betterment for all.

Blog Post #4: Rewatching ‘80’s Cinema In An Era Of MeToo & Cancel Culture Interview With Bluto from Animal House
Write a mock interview. Interview one (1) of THREE (3) characters: 1) Bluto (played by John Belushi) from National Lampoon’s Animal House (1978), 2) Gilbert (played by Anthony Edwards) from Revenge Of The Nerds (1984), and 3) Samantha (played by Molly Ringwald) from Sixteen Candles (1984). The topic of discussion is rewatching ‘80’s cinema in an era of #MeToo & Cancel Culture.
I decided to interview Bluto from Animal House for this assignment.
“How has the pandemic affected your life? Have things gotten better or worse for you? Is life slower or Faster?”
“The pandemic hit me and my family hard.  School has been shut down so our kids have been at home most of the day and me as well as my wife have been working from home ever since.  Not being an essential worker during the Covid lockdowns had really affected my life.  I was forced to pick up various side hustles, from selling used clothes on online internet stores or going house to house trying to sell Herbalife to my neighbors, I started drop shipping products from alibaba, I started selling merchandise on my store online, I even started to do telemarketing in my free time all in between the various shifts of raising my kids.  My social and partying life is a lot slower nowadays, but my family as well as my work life are faster than ever.  I still keep in contact with most of my friends from the frat through social media.  However, some of them just never adjusted to using social media in their free time.  I’d guess that some of them are just living in the woods and are disconnected from society nowadays.  Life is slowing down for me overall.  The hectic partying years for me seem to be in my rear view mirror and I live a simpler life as I focus on just providing for my family.”
“So what does the average day look like for Bluto in the modern age? What does your routine look like?”
“Whelp, I get up and start working at 5am most days now.  I also work Monday through Friday on most days, but the work is easy and fun in my opinion.  I have to work to feed my family and to pay my rent.  So I make sure to invest my spare money. Like I said in the previous paragraph, I do a whole lot of side hustles in my free time in order to make ends meet.  All of my side hustles are completely online.  Which only makes my work commute as easy as flunking out and partying all semester.  My remote side gigs fill up a lot of time but I like the work I do so it goes by pretty quickly on some days.  It seems like boring work to the average person, but I am always learning new things in the trades and I have learned to make the work fun over the years.  My shift ends at 4:00PM and I have dinner with my family at 5:00PM.  After dinner, I normally spend my time researching worthwhile investments as well as just hanging out with my wife and kids.  We play games and watch movies in our spare time in order to unwind from the jam packed day.  For vacations, we go to the local amusement park in the summer and during spring break.  It’s always a blast for our entire family and we always make sure to make the best of the occasion.  Investing has really been able to help me elevate my financial status.  Researching investments has really helped me get closer to reaching financial freedom someday.  I am still unfortunately still paying for the debt I racked up at the Delta fraternity. I really hope to someday help my children with their investments so they can help their children invest in the future some day.”
“Who are your favorite artists of this time and why?”
“I really like that Kanye guy.  His music is nothing like the blues that I grew up with, but it’s different and interesting!  The way that he mixes his music is really good and he’s made so many popular songs over the past years as well.  Spotify has been a godsend for our family.  I’ve always been a big fan of pop and rock all throughout the entirety of my life.  I also like to listen to Bruno Mars as well as Oliver Tree in my free time nowadays .  Bruno Mars has also had a lot of really popular pop songs come out in the last few years.  I would always hear his songs when I would drive to the grocery store, so they grew on me over the years.  Oliver Tree is a newer artist, but he really is a unique character in the current music industry.  His music is more of a mix of pop and rock.  It’s some of my favorite stuff because it’s great to jam out to at parties.  I was never big into collecting music, but I started a record collection when I left college and got my first apartment alone.  It has grown over the years into a really diverse collection.  Some of my fraternity friends from Delta will randomly send me records as gifts.  I don't know a lot of artists, but I like most of Keith Haring’s work.  I like how simplistic yet satisfying his style is.  I saw some of his work when I visited New York City for the first time and I’ve been interested in learning more about him ever since.  I also love just seeing the street art that comes out of that city.  Some of the graffiti that I have seen while walking around Manhattan is really pretty and super dope.  It really makes the city stand out artistically.”
“Are you still the party animal that you were in college?  Or did you outgrow that phase into your adulthood?”
“I still have that college spirit in me!  I’ll never forget those old golden days with the boys.  However, my body hasn’t held up to the same standard that it used to back in the past.  When I was younger, I had more energy, I was more flexible, and I could party a lot more.  Nowadays,  I get tired by 9pm, I get out of breath easily, and my energy is a lot older.  The chaos of college and working had worn my body down over the years.  I still love to party, especially whenever I bump into one of the boys from the fraternity, but over time I haven’t been able to party as hard as I grew up.  The hangovers got worse and my life was only getting more busy.  The nights are still fun, but I have a family to provide for so there’s not too much of an incentive to party every night nowadays.  So I would definitely say that I grew out of my partying phase as I grew up and matured more as a person.  The need to provide for my family has also straightened my act up the most because of how much I love and care about them.  I mostly just spend my time working and raising my kids.  I have become the old man that I used to make fun of as a kid.  I regret nothing, ha ha ha.  I think that I definitely outgrew that phase of my life, but that doesn’t mean that it wasn’t an amazing phase of my own life.  I met some of my closest friends in my fraternity years of my life and the phase had definitely given me a crew of reliable friends that have my back.  I am super glad that I joined the Delta house and I hope my kids do the same someday.”
“What do you think the next 10 years look like? Are you optimistic or stocking up for the nuclear winter?”
“Honestly, I try to stay optimistic in these crazy times. Whenever I start laying in my sorrow, I just think about my friends from college and how they must be feeling.  Distance makes things hard for me and the fraternity boys to keep in contact, but I hope that they’re all doing well.  I try my best to stay optimistic in these hectic times, but I am also skeptical enough to start prepping for the end of the world.  I wouldn’t call myself a pessimistic person, but I have been stockpiling things in my basement.  Mostly cans of soup and beans.  Also lots and lots of water.  Most of my friends from the fraternity also have some form of doomsday kit.  Some of them have whatever is in their pantry and some of them have full rooms in the basement set up for the end of the world.  Food, beer, and ammunition are the top three stored goods among the boys in the Delta House.  Most of the boys plan on partying more than surviving when the end of the world actually happens, but I don’t think that will be for a while to be honest.  In my opinion, I think that Pessimism really gets people anywhere in life.  Being negative will only really bring other people down with you.  Plus, no one really likes to hang out with people who only bring them down emotionally.  So I try my best to stay positive and driven for the people around me.  It also helps me stay driven towards my goals in moments of doubt.  I think that the next ten years will be good.  If we stay away from war as a civilization, I think that we will progress a lot as a society a whole lot in 10 years.  We’ll probably have magnetic bullet trains by them or at least some better form of better transportation by then.

Nov. 05th
Hello,
It`s 10:08p.m. right now and I feel extremely tired. Nonetheless, I`ve been thinking that I should have a routine of writing because I belive it`ll help me fulfill one of my purposes in life that`s got to do with word. It`s prettey much a Gemini purpose that is all about spreading knowledge, presenting others with things I`ve learned every day... Sometimes I feel something like laziness, a feeling of not wanting to write, although I do like it! Sometimes I feel it’s a process which has got to do with other things than joy, like the unknown - when I realize sometimes I didn’t know I knew something or that I had something inside of me that I had no idea. I think writing takes some of the veils from my eyes and I’m a bit frightened by what I might find out. Anyway, here I go again, trying to have a routine of writing despite my own routine. Once I found on the internet something called “productivity sheet”, actually planned by Geronimo Thelm, a coach/youtuber whose videos I come to find quite interesting. This productivity sheet is going to be a model for the things I’m going to write here, since it’s straightforward and covers the most important aspects of my day. 1. Focus of the day: Having a productive day and reduce the sensation of being starting a lot of different things but ending none.
2. Priorities: - Being able to do at leat 2 things related to the coorditation of CCAA: prepare the envelopes for the Spanish test, which is going to be on Thursday and find a teacher for a VIP student; - Giving my best in the classes of the day; - Doing one thing at a time (specially eating); - Correcting some exercises (not done) - Posting something on our Herbalife page on Instagram (not done)
3. Things I should avoid: - Being distracetd with other things that can wait; - Being lazy
4. How was my day? 8
5. Things I’m grateful for: - I’m grateful for having Aurelio every day with me giving his best to make things work the best way; - I’m grateful for being a better person than yesterday, for I learn something new every single day; - I’m grateful for my life, for the courage I’ve had to chenge its course, becoming a co-creator of it; - I’m grateful for may health; - I’m grateful for my guidness - the human and non-human beings that work with me making life a work of art.
6. What did I learn today? Today I learned that to be a little less snowed under I should see the importance of each thing to my life and see the things that ca wait a little. Today I remembered that knowledge grows when it’s shared. Today I learned that there is a path to meditation that is between being awake and being asleep. That’s when I give up resisting, but am still conscious. Today I learned that an Herbilife flan might not be as delicious as a chocolate cake but might work as a substitute sometimes.Today I learned that when I’m in uncomfortable situation, my body tells on me, even though my voice doesn’t ans I don’t know how to fix it. I realized today that I love to dance (even though I didn’t dance today) and I miss it a lot. Today I wondered if I could just share photos/text with people without rewriting it from my perspective. It sounded like a lazy idea of someone who’s afraid to leave her comfort zone. Today I learned that when a gymnast opens her legs from side to side of her body, it’s called “do the splits” and yhat we can ask a person “can you please wait on the line?” on a phone conversation. I learned that we have to be a link in a chain of happiness, shining happiness and making people choosing to be happy as well - pretty much a Herbalife work... Plus, it’s not a job that’s done alone. Today I learned that freedom is something that scares us, because it’s the unknown and we have no idea of what to do with it. Today I learned that what we see in other people is usually the first thing we see in ourselves. Today I learned that when I sing, I can see my true self. FOR TOMORROW: Focus: 1. Doing one thing at a time 2. Being organized
To do: Morning: 1. Meditation 2. Going to the gym 3.  Buying candy for my students 4. Write a meditation (in portuguese - because it’s a translation)  on this page 5. Post some stories on Instagram 6. Correcting my students’ exercises 7. Preparing the classes at school 8. Printing the page on which we write each student’s points *Calling a teacher at 11:00
Afternoon 1. Setting an alarm to go from class to class telling people about our vacation course 2. Setting all of the make-up clases on student needs 3. Organizing a folder with the tests of the students that are going to take the 2nd call (including what they must show on the day)
Evening: 1. Giving my best in my classes 2. Write here when I get home I don’t know what here will be useful to you, but this is honestly what I have in mind and my plans. Love always, Lin

For Just One Day
I really just wanna get away. Close out the influences in the world. A quiet island, plenteous in Mother Nature’s nutrients. Quiet. No technology to make me dependant, no media to direct my thinking, no news, no stories of crime and violence. Simply, me, the Most High, and the voices of the wind. I want to be one with nature for a day. I want to be dependent on my spiritual strength for a day. I want to know what fruits heal, what vegetables cure, what herbs and grains can repair. I want to feel the earth beneath my feet and have strong soles to travel a million lands like our ancestors. I want to be free of processed foods, man made medicine, man made moisturizers and lather my skin in pure butters of the earth. I want to seek the earth for its wealth. I want to build with my hands and enjoy the kind of life Netflix cannot bring. I want to breathe fresh air. I want to live as a human should…sometimes…or at least for just one day. -Rena

MLM stands for Multilevel Marketing (MLM Meaning)
Multilevel marketing is a massive industry.
MLM, or multilevel marketing, is a method of selling products or services via a network of distributors. What Is the Process of a Typical MLM? A typical Multilevel Marketing scheme is based on recruiting. You are asked to become a distributor (or contractor, consultant, or partner), sometimes via another distributor of the company's goods, and sometimes through a well publicized gathering. If you opt to become a distributor with the direct selling business, you will make money by selling the MLM's goods as well as recruiting other distributors and earning a percentage of the revenue generated by these distributors. And when those distributors recruit their own distributors, you'll profit from the revenue they produce as well. Your downline consists of the distributors you join up with your Multilevel Marketing plan and the distributors they sign up with. Your upline is the distributor who first recruited you and whomever is above him or her in the recruiting process.

Often, the distributor that hires you will provide some assistance, including training, to get you started. Do you want to be a distributor? Read Is Multi-Level Marketing (MLM) a Good Business Opportunity? What Is the Size of the MLM Market? The top three MLM companies are: Avon Products, Inc. was established in 1986. Avon has $11.3 billion in yearly sales and approximately 6.5 million sales employees. Avon sells a variety of cosmetic goods, jewelry, and trendy clothing. Amway was established in 1959. Amway has $10.9 billion in yearly sales and over 3 million sales associates who offer beauty, health, and food and beverage goods. Herbalife Ltd. was established in 1980. Herbalife has $4.8 billion in yearly sales and over 2.7 million sales associates. Cosmetics, personal care goods, and nutritional supplements are examples of products. Herbalife was exonerated of accusations of having a fraudulent business plan in 2016 after an FBI inquiry found insufficient evidence. These three examples are just the tip of a very massive iceberg. Direct selling has been used by more than 74% of the American population to buy products or services. Worldwide multilevel marketing sales were similarly high in 2017, with $189,641 USD million in sales (World Federation of Direct Selling Associations). The top two worldwide markets are the United States and China, each with an 18% market share, followed by Germany and Korea, each with a 9% market share, Japan with an 8% market share, and Brazil with a 6% market share. What Is the Appeal of Multilevel Marketing? Most Multilevel Marketing systems operate on a "the sky's the limit" promise with a little amount of "easy money" tossed in for good measure. The MLM sales pitch claims that there is no limit to how much money you can earn if you work hard. And, thanks to your downline, you will be able to earn money while doing nothing. The cherry on top is that MLMs are generally extremely inexpensive to join, thus being a distributor is often far less costly than establishing your own company or investing in a franchise. Furthermore, many Multilevel Marketing systems are deliberately designed with appealing incentives. Avon representatives can earn trips to vacation destinations. Each month, Amway provides cash incentives depending on success. Who can forget the pink convertibles given to top-selling Mary Kay consultants, for example? What Are the Chances of Making Money in MLM? According to Jon Taylor, the owner of the MLM-theTruth.com website. When operational expenditures and other charges are included in, 99.7 percent of individuals who join MLMs lose money, according to his free e-book Multi-Level Marketing Unmasked. In other words, only three out of every 1,000 people who join an MLM organization will earn more money than they spend. As a distributor, you must purchase a certain number of goods and services in order to qualify for commissions and incentives, as well as to progress up the different tiers of the pay plan (also known as "rank advancement"). TOPPs for many MLMs require downline members to pay for training, conferences, books, recordings, sales material, and other "tools" needed to be successful in addition to product purchases. MLMs are they legal? MLMs are allowed in Canada as long as they do not violate the Competition Act. MLM businesses are often unregulated, and current regulations governing MLM activities are ambiguous or poorly defined. As a result, prosecutions against violating MLM businesses are lengthy, difficult, and uncommon. Larger MLMs can easily afford strong legal counsel to keep authorities at bay. If you are thinking about joining an MLM firm, you should carefully research the prospect, just like you would any other suggested business endeavor. Not all Multilevel Marketing programs are made equal, and some may not even be MLM at all, but rather illegal pyramid scams.
