Bridgerton in a Pokemon World: Benophie

Starring Benedict "Vaporeon" Bridgerton and Sophie "Cubone" Baek. 🍂🎭

This is for @benophieweek Day 1 based on the theme "Meetings and Searching".

Also, my own song choice is Cinderella by UKISS; it describes how Sophie is seen at the Masquerade Ball as a literal Cinderella, while Benedict is tormented, searches for Sophie and wants her to choose him as her Prince Charming.

Let's go back to the OG Gen 1 Pokemon!

I choose Benedict as Vaporeon because he is a "go with the flow" type of dude. He is chill, friendly, happy-go-lucky, fun and pansexual. He is calm like a flowing river, but there may be a chance he'll get agitated in S4, like an uncontrolled ocean during a storm. He loves the water... 😏 (I'm not spoiling on the book, An Offer From a Gentleman, about that). He also starts to fall in love with the Lady in Silver at first sight because he never sees someone so ethereal and unique, like a "storybook fairy".

Sophie is a Cubone. I draw her as such because of her personal history. Sophie is known as the "bastard" daughter of the Earl of Penwood and a lady's maid. Her mother died after Sophie was born, raised by her ailing grandmother and then fostered by her father who doesn't really care about her as she is his "ward". Because of that, she feels ostracised and alone in society's eye, though she does get proper education as a lady and has servants as friends. Sophie wears a metaphorical mask to hide her vulnerable self from others (until Benedict infiltrates through them and sees the Real Sophie 🥹). Similar to Cubone as it feels lonely and ostracised after the death of its mother, even wearing her skull as a mask to hide its true face from everyone. Since the Earl's death, Sophie becomes a maid to Araminta (her stepmother) and her daughters (her stepsisters), but with a lot of hardship and struggles along the way; she's being mistreated as a servant rather than part of the family.

Fortunately, Sophie has her morals and "her mind and spirit still strong" despite her hardships, and Cubone persevered despite its trauma and grief. Both Sophie and Cubone are brave, strategic and resilient. However, Sophie prefers to have someone who loves her and truly wants to be with her. While Cubone is happy to be part of a Pokemon trainer's team. Both of them are alike as they "have been adrift all [their lives]"; they are always alone, with no parental figure or someone to comfort them. They want someone to "be [their] anchor" as they are craving for love, support and a sense of belonging.

I draw Sophie-Cubone cute because she deserves to feel cute, with coquettes, silver dress and everything. She's also smol (41 cm / 1'04") compared to Benedict-Vaporeon (1 m / 3'03"). 🥰 An underdog who gets a happy ending with Benedict, just like Cinderella. :))

My own song choice, Cinderella by UKISS, isn't been voted highly as a song theme. But since the admins allow song choices outside the chosen ones, I decide to include the K-Pop song back in my teen years. The lyrics resonates with Benophie so much and it also links with the theme. The theme is based on Autumn (because the production said so), but I also include bits of Ecruteak City vibes and colours. It is based on the Benophie Dance Still, which I love it so much, I use it as my desktop! :)))

(I realised that I forget to include Sophie's gloves in this art. But let's assume Benedict put it in his pocket during their dance. 😉)

I'm gonna be honest, if Bridgerton S4 (Benophie season) plays Cinderella by UKISS, I'm gonna scream and start singing along!

Like come on! There's a Cinderella theme, it's Benophie-related, and it's a K-pop song. Win win for Benophie fans and for teen me! :))) If Lucifer (TV show) played Lucifer (SHINee song), then Bridgerton should play the orchestral for Cinderella to correspond to Sophie being the Cinderella of the Masquerade Ball.

By the way, the lyrics of the UKISS song really resonates with Benophie in the books. It makes sense once reading the translation of the lyrics. :)))
