With the AU where Sam came back before the events of five how do you imagine she would’ve reacted if she’d found Tara after the opening attack. Maybe when Tara clicked the emergency button it would also automatically notify Sam. After seeing how Sam reacted to Gale’s attack I can’t imagine her finding to Tara while the paramedics and police try to get there.
Previous. Sam's on the way back home when she gets the alert.
It's late and she's furious that she fell asleep at Richie's. She can't even fathom how it happened, it was only one drink to calm her nerves! Tara must be so worried; she hates making Tara worried. She gets the impression that Tara worries every time Sam leaves her sight, scared it might be the last time she'll see her, that she'll run off again. That hurts Sam, it really really hurts that Tara doesn't trust her to stay, but she doesn't - can't - blame her. It's a fear rooted in experience after all. And FUCK she basically did that earlier when she ran out of the Meeks-Martin household. The lack of notifications on her phone when she woke up felt suffocating. Did Tara think she ran away? Did she hope she ran away?
She doesn't check the phone again until she's parked up outside the house. There's a missed call from Tara, a bunch of... security alerts? She swipes into the app as she goes to get out of the car, a pit in her stomach.
Her heart drops from her chest at the latest alert from several minutes earlier: SECURITY BREACH, POLICE ALERTED. She vaults from the vehicle. The front door is locked and Sam nearly drops the phone as she rushes to turn on the screen and get back into the security app.
She slams open the door to her worst nightmare.
Tara's on the floor, crying, bleeding, begging. A robed figure in a fucking Ghostface mask stands over her with a knife. The figure halts their downward movement at Sam's sudden presence and it takes just a fraction of a second for them to leap away and run back into the kitchen, knife clattering to the ground around the corner.
There's blood everywhere - how can there be this much blood from such a tiny thing oh god. Sam's on her knees at Tara's side before she's even realised she's moved. She's trying to stop the bleeding but there's so much and she only has two hands. Tara's leg, her hand, she's bleeding from her back and her front and it just won't stop and all she can hear is Sam, sam it hurts, please make it stop, Sam please and all she can say is I'm sorry, I've got you, it's going to be ok Tara, it's going to be ok, just stay with me ok, hey keep your eyes open babygirl, look at me, Tara, look at me, Tara, Tara, please.
Hicks walks in on Sam Carpenter squeezing her little sister to her chest crying I'm sorry I'm sorry I'm sorry.

you were in the last few days of your pregnancy, leading up to the 39 week mark and to say you were relieved was an understatement. the past few weeks had been awful from back pain, braxton hicks, swollen ankles, heartburn, headaches, nausea. the list went on and on. you, Steve and Eddie had moved a few hours outside of Hawkins wanting a fresh start in a new house and it was absolutely perfect.
with it only being a few hours away from Hawkins it meant you could still visit your friends and family and vice versa. as you were pregnant you didn't like sitting in the car for the almost three hour drive, it hurt your back and Steve didn't like stopping the car every ten minutes so you could get out and walk around to try and ease the pain. so they usually opted driving to your house.
today, Eddie had to drive back to Hawkins to help Wayne at the garage with a few cars. Wayne hated calling Eddie to help him and Eddie hated leaving you with you being so close to your due date but you insisted you were absolutely fine and he'd left in the morning before both you and Steve woke up.
you had woken up around nine with intense back pain and cramping. you had been having braxton hicks for the past few days and that's what you usually put it down to but not this time, this was painful. so painful it made you groan slightly which you never did. after the pain subsided you sat up in bed, Steve no where to be found making you sigh and get out of the bed.
you could hear the radio playing quietly and Steve's humming to enjoy the silence by Depeche mode making smile softly. you tried make your steps as quiet as possible trying to to disturb his 'party' whilst doing the dishes and he luckily didn't notice you. his back was facing the door as he hovered over the sink, cleaning the few plates that had been left in there from the night before.
you walked towards him and wrapped your arms around his waist trying to hug him as best you could with a huge bump in the way. "morning honey" he put the plates down and turned to face you, wrapping his arms around your shoulders. he placed a delicate kiss on your head and smiled when he felt your arms tighten around him.
"you sleep okay?" he asked as you pulled back from the hug to kiss him and nodded. "i had a really bad ache this morning, it was so painful it woke me up" you said like it was nothing, walking to the other side of the kitchen to grab a bowl to make some cereal but it made Steve's heart race. this could be you going into labour and he was here without Eddie who was adamant on being here for your labour.
you had all decided to do a home birth, the pool set up in the middle of the spacious living room ready to be filled when you went into labour. you'd always wanted to try a home birth, being in your own home made you feel so much more comfortable than thinking about being in a hospital. if something went wrong you were only twenty minutes away from the hospital so there was always that option if you decided to change your mind.
after making your cereal you walked to the living room, sighing as you sat down to finally be off your feet. your legs ached all the time and walking made you out of breath. you rested the bowl on top of your belly, slowly eating as you watched some random tv show but after a few minutes you felt another pain shoot through your lower stomach.
this time the pain was like a period cramp but way more intense. you lent forward to place your bowl on the coffee table and delicately place your hands on top of your stomach, closing your eyes and breathing through this pain as best you could. as luck would have it Steve walked into the living room so he could relax but that thought went completely out of his head when he saw you.
"baby, what's the matter?" he sat down next to you and stroked his hand up and down on your back. when the pain finally stopped after thirty seconds you sighed feeling relieved that it had finally stopped. it felt like it was going on forever. "i think i'm having contractions and Eddie's not here" you looked at him. his eyes went wide as he listened to you talk.
he knew how much it meant to you that both of them were there. you were all becoming parents and you really didn't want one of them to miss it. Steve knew some days the shop was so busy that Eddie couldn't physically answer the phone and most of the guys that worked there were assholes and let the phone ring. but he prayed that these were false labour pains.
"it's okay. we need to be sure that they're contractions honey and if they are we will call Eddie. he'll be here" Steve kissed the side of your head and continued to run his hand up and down your back to try comfort you as best he could. "what time did you wake up?" he knew from the many books he read that he needed to time your contractions.
with you saying you woke up with one he needed to make sure he was being precise about this. "i think it was nine" he looked down at his wrist watch and saw it was 9:14- fourteen minutes apart. "you tell me if you have another okay? i just need to make sure these are contractions" he said as the both of you got comfortable on the sofa.
Steve wrapped his arm around your shoulders bringing you into him as the two of you watched the tv, well you were, Steve was sneaking glances at you every so often just making sure you weren't having contractions but after he finally settled down after ten minutes you sucked in a breath and sat up. another contraction. he glanced down at his wrist watch again and realised they were getting closer together.
you were definitely in labour. you grabbed hold of Steve's hand and squeezed it tightly as the pain was almost unbearable. your mum had told you contractions were painful but you didn't realise they would be this painful. you moaned in pain as the contraction continued. "breathe sweetheart, that's it" you heard Steve say as you squeezed his hand tighter.
"could you get me some water please? i feel really hot and i need to cool down" you asked fanning yourself with your hand as the pain from the contraction subsided. "of course, do you need anything else?" with a shake of your head he got up and walked back to the kitchen to get your water.
whilst waiting you felt a popping sensation before water gushing out of you, soaking your pyjama pants. "Steve" you shouted as you slowly stood up, hearing his footsteps quickly approaching you. he looked at you then looked at the sofa which was soaking wet with clear fluid. his eyes widened he honestly felt like he could throw up. this was it.
"holy shit" he whispered walking towards you. "you have to call Mary" Mary was your midwife and would be with you at home whilst you gave birth. she had told you at your last appointment that you needed to alert her as soon as your water broke. he nodded, his eyes still wide "i will but let's get you into something clean, do you think you can walk up the stairs honey?"
his right hand went to your back once again, trying his best not to freak out in front of you. he saw you nod and held out his left hand this time so he could help you walk up the stairs to change. once the two of you were in the bedroom Steve walked to your draws, pulling out a new pair of pyjama pants.
"do you need help changing?" he asked as he walked toward you with the new pants. you shook your head and took the pants from him, whispering a small thank you before you felt a kiss on the side of your head. "i'm gonna go call Mary then i'll call Eddie. shout to me if you need help okay?" you nodded this time and watched as he left your bedroom.
after a few minutes of you changing into your new pants you felt another wave of pain through your stomach making you sit down wincing. the pain was almost unbearable. "i've phoned Mary. she's on her way but i couldn't get ahold of Eddie." Steve said walking into the bedroom.
Steve saw your pained expression as he stood in front of you "another contraction?" you only nodded. he held his hands open so he could help you stand up. "you need to keep calling him. he can't miss it" you squeezed Steve's hands as you pulled yourself up off the bed. "i will honey don't worry. he'll be here" he kissed your cheek reassuringly.
-
"where the fuck is Eddie" you said as you bent over the kitchen island, trying to relieve your pain in any way you could. Mary was behind you massaging your back as you breathed through your contraction. "he didn't answer. he might be really busy-"
"Steve they have people who answer the phone. keep calling" you cut him off. it was now 2pm and Eddie still hadn't answered the phone. your labour was going slow and Mary had told you that you were only at 4cm. that meant you had another 6 to go. "y/n sweetheart try not to stress. it's not good for you or the baby" Mary said as she took her hands off your back.
Mary was old, it may be rude to say but she was. however when she saw you in the hospital for your first midwife appointment with both Steve and Eddie sat next to you she said nothing and just smiled. many people judged your relationship but to be honest you all didn't care. you all loved each other and that's all that mattered.
"but what if he does miss it, he promised he'd be here, he wanted to be here" the last thing you wanted was for Eddie to miss the birth of his daughter. it was special and you'd never forgive him for not being there- he would never forgive himself for not being there. "and he will be, i'm gonna call one more time and leave another message if they don't answer. after that i'm not gonna call again, i gotta look after you honey"
Steve walked to the phone which was in the living room and after a few beats of silence you were met with Steve leaving yet another voice mail. your heart sunk. you couldn't understand why they wouldn't answer the phone. Wayne had two people who sat by the phone all day talking to customers about their cars or if they needed help with their cars but they never answered.
"i'm sorry. they didn't answer but i'm sure they're just really busy, Eddie will be here" Steve said as he came back into the kitchen, a sympathetic look on his face. "but what if he isn't? he wanted to-" you were cut off by another strong contraction, this one hurting so much more than the others you had been experiencing all day. Steve rushed to your side, holding your hand tightly as you groaned in pain.
you could feel your eyes filling with tears as the painful contraction got a bit more intense. after a minute it finally stopped but this contraction was a lot closer than the others. it meant your labour was moving along quickly and you would be pushing soon. you wrapped your arms around Steve's waist hugged him tightly.
"what if he doesn't make it" you whispered to Steve, tears threatening to spill over any second with the crazy amount of hormones running through your body. Steve wrapped his arms around you and hugged you back "he will honey i promise, if not i'll give him an earful don't you worry" he joked as he kissed your head, trying to make the situation better. but it didn't work. it just made you anxious. you just hoped by some miracle that Eddie would make it in time.
-
"hey guys" Eddie said as he walked into the office. he had finally gotten a break after working so hard. he sat down in front of Adam, a 20 year old who had been working with Troy to take phone calls for the garage. it was a system that meant Eddie, Wayne and the rest of the mechanics didn't have to leave their work to answer the phone and so far it had worked.
"it's been so busy today, crazy amount of people just brining their cars in for random shit that don't even need fixing" Eddie said rubbing a hand through his hair. he had a good few hours left before he could leave and come home to you and Steve and to be honest he was counting down the hours.
"did that Jerry guy bring his car in? i swear he comes in every week for the same thing" Troy said as he sat on his desk which was right next to Adams. "yeah he did. i mean he's old, probably doesn't remember bringing it in. i just pretend to fix something and he's on his way within ten minutes. never charged him though. can't make him pay for something that isn't actually real"
Adam and Troy were the only guys who were younger than Eddie in the garage, Troy being 24, meant that he could speak to them about the same sort of thing, he couldn't really speak to the older guys in the garage because he never understood what the spoke about. they spoke about stuff that happened years before he was born.
"anyway, anything happened with calls today? i heard the phone going crazy" Eddie said in a happy tone, he thought it was customers that were calling in for their cars which meant more money in his pocket for you guys and the baby. "don't be mad" Troy said scratching the back of his neck as he spoke. "we didn't actually answer any of them" Eddie rolled his eyes, a little bit of anger filing his body.
"c'mon guys that isn't cool. some people might be stuck of the side of the road and you've left them there" Adam nodded "we know, we just got a little bit bored but i'm sure it's nothing to worry about. i think they've left a few voicemails, the last call was ten minutes ago so we can listen to them now if you want?" Adam was always the mediator, he hated arguments and never wanted to get on anyone's bad side. it was obvious this was Troy's idea and not his.
Eddie only nodded, bracing himself for the many many voicemails from the different customers who were all probably angry that they didn't answer the phone. the first few were of customers only wanting to book in for a routine check of their cars but after those Eddie felt his stomach drop once he heard Steve's panicked voice.
"hey, uhh this is Steve. i really need to speak to Eddie about something so please call me back. it's urgent."
"hi it's Steve again, i know the shop must be busy for you guys to not answer the phone but this is really serious and i need Eddie to come home. please call me back"
"okay i don't know if this is a prank and you guys are not answering because you think it's funny but Eddie needs to come home. if you listen to these please get Eddie to leave the shop. thank you"
"i've called so many times i can't even count but Eddie needs to leave work now. his girlfriend is in labour and is probably going to give birth in a few hours and he can't miss it. she needs him here and so do i so please stop ignoring these calls and get him to come home"
Eddie stood up, ignoring the shocked looks on Adam and Troy's faces. he picked up the phone which was in front of Adam and dialled your home phone number. he heard it ring a few times before an out of breath Steve answered. "hello?" Eddie could hear you crying in the background as it seemed another contraction had hit you as he called.
"Steve-" "Eddie. you need to get home now, she's at 6cm and i can't speak for long, she's contracting but you need to get here fast. we need you, she is scared you're gonna miss it and i am to" Eddie could hear you call out for Steve and he felt his heart break, you sounded like you were in so much pain. "im coming sweetheart don't worry- just get here quick" and before Eddie could even say anything Steve had ended the call.
both boys looked at Eddie with guilt and sadness as they realised their little prank had gone way to far. "i am so sorry" Adam said as Eddie started making his way out of the office door. he turned around with the angriest expression on his face "this never happens again because look what's happened. i might miss the birth of my daughter because of you guys" he walked out, calling out to Wayne that he needed to leave and with that he got into his van and started making his way home.
-
"10cm finally" Mary said as she pulled her hand out of the warm water. your were sat on your knees facing Steve who was stroking your cheek comfortingly. you felt sad. this wasn't going how you wanted it to and now you weren't even happy that you were going to finally bring your own daughter into the world.
yes one of her dads was here and it should of been enough, but it wasn't. this moment was special, it might be something you never got to experience again and Eddie still wasn't here. it had been almost three hours since Steve spoke to him and your labour had gone pretty quick after that.
"i know it's not how you wanted it but i need you to start pushing" Mary said as she put on some new gloves and sat next to you beside the pool so she could watch you push your baby out. you took your shaky hands and grabbed Steve's holding onto the so tightly. "i want you to start pushing when you feel the next contraction y/n" after a few seconds of waiting you felt the now familiar pain of your contraction and started pushing.
"that's it, we'll done" you could hear Mary counting up to ten and you let yourself relax when she told you to stop. this pain was terrible. a lot worse than what you anticipated. "well done sweetheart. you're doing amazing" Steve kissed your cheek as the grip on his hands loosened slightly.
"and again y/n push with your contractions" you pushed again with another contraction, at this point they were about a minute apart. "keep pushing, keep pushing, well done" you could faintly hear Mary say as you focused on pushing your baby out.
after you finished pushing for another ten minutes you heard the front door slam closed and heavy boots running through the house. "i'm here" you could hear Eddie say and you felt all the sadness fade away. you had both your boys here now and you felt relieved. Eddie rushed to you, hands finding your face as he kissed you quickly, tucking a loose piece of hair behind your ear.
"i'm so sorry. the guys were being assholes and didn't answer the phone. i'm sorry baby" he kissed you again before giving a quick kiss to Steve. "you almost missed it" you pulled one of your hands away from Steve's and laced your fingers with Eddie's. he nodded "i know, but look, Steve took great care of you and i haven't missed her being born. i've probably broken a few laws to get here but it's okay"
you wanted to laugh but you couldn't. another contraction made you cry out in pain "push y/n. you're doing amazing. i think you'll have her in the next few pushes" Eddie's eyes widened as you pushed, he was defiantly not ready for this. both Steve and Eddie hated seeing anyone in pain, but seeing you in pain made them feel awful. "a few more honey then she'll be here and all the pain will go away" Steve tried his best to console you as you cried.
if they could take the pain and give it to themselves they would but now there was nothing you could do. i mean, they were receiving some pretty hard hand holding, both of them wincing silently as you squeezed their hands harder with each push. "keep pushing sweetheart you're doing amazing" Eddie held your hand tighter and used his free hand to stroke your cheek.
"i can feel the head, keep pushing. well done" Eddie looked at Mary who was next the pool with her gloved hand in the water. "one last big push y/n and you'll have your baby" both Eddie and Steve looked at each other, their hearts beating fast, this was it. they were about to become dads.
you cried in pain one last time, face scrunched up as you pushed then it all went away. "5:48pm" you felt your body relax into the water as your pain finally stopped. you reached down and pulled your baby from the now murky water to your chest. you felt kisses all over your face as tears of happiness and relief poured down your cheeks.
you could hear the many praises Eddie and Steve were saying to you as you hugged your baby close. after a few seconds she started crying letting the whole world know that she'd finally arrived. "wow you've got a set of lungs on you haven't you" you heard Eddie say making you laugh through your tears. "look at her, she's beautiful" you said looking down at your daughter.
-
you were sat in your bed, sleep almost consuming you as you watched Eddie holding Penny with Steve stood right beside him, a small sleepy smile on your face. both boys were infatuated with her. she was wrapped in a baby pink blanket knitted by your mother with a matching pink hat on top of her head of thick brown curls.
Steve's hand moved to stroke her cheek making her grimace slightly. "she's perfect, i can't take my eyes off her" Steve whispered not wanting to wake up Penny. both boys couldn't believe that you were all parents now and neither could everyone back in Hawkins. Steve had phoned everyone to let them know Penny was finally here and they all couldn't believe it. they had all waited like you guys and it was exciting to finally get the call that she was here.
Steve had even phoned his parents and was surprised to get an answer. they were never in Hawkins and he expected the phone to just ring into the empty house but his mum answered and was actually happy for you all. she had even cried a little bit hearing that she was now a grandma which shocked him even more.
"her nose is so cute. exactly like her mama's" Eddie lent down to place a small kiss on her nose which looked identical to yours. she was practically your twin. "can you believe she's here. we've waited for so long and now shes in your arms sleeping"
"no. its crazy. we are actually parents now and we have this tiny human to look after" Eddie's eyes looking over her face trying to take in his daughters beautiful features. "i was so close to missing it. i'm sorry i wasn't here to help you guys" Eddie looked up from your daughter to look at you and Steve, eyes darting between the two of you.
“it’s okay Ed’s. you got here just in time” you reassured him, the smile never leaving your face. Penny woke up out of her sleep, face scrunching up as she cried making Eddie quickly make his way over to you. you were all still trying to figure out her cries but he assumed she was hungry and he was right.
she latched on to breast feed pretty quickly and her cries died down. Steve and Eddie were on either side of you watching your little girl with pure adoration in their eyes. the three of you were silent just watching the small baby in your arms. she was just utterly perfect. “thank you for making us dads y/n. we definitely couldn’t do it without you” Steve said kissing your cheek and Eddie hummed in agreement, kissing you before kissing Steve. you now had your own little family and you couldn’t be happier.

Pleaseeeeeeeeeee one with chilly where you’ve just delivered your baby and chilly holds his baby girl for the first time 🥺🥺🥺 daddy chilly does not get enough recognition
agreed nonnie <3
𝐦𝐢𝐥𝐟 — ben chilwell
summary: ben holding his baby for the first time, and being seriously freaked out
notes: requests are open
You were nearing your last few weeks, and you could tell Ben was nervous. More nervous than you, in fact. He was constantly placing his hand over your bump, making sure the hospital bag was always by the door. Even when you’d experienced Braxton Hicks, he was so panicky around you and making sure you were okay. You weren’t sure whether it was him being nervous about having a baby, or him being nervous about you going into labour.
“Ben,” you whined, moving him arm from around you, “just relax, I’m fine, the baby’s fine.” He had a tendency to latch onto you when you sleep, holding you close to make sure you were both okay. The sentiment was cute, but you were uncomfortable enough without his grabby hands.
“Sorry,” he mumbled against your back, pressing a light kiss to your shoulder blade before rolling over. There was only a few brief seconds of silence, before he struck up a conversation, “aren’t you shitting yourself at the fact that we’re never going to be alone again?”
“We aren’t alone, we have each other.” You answered. “But I understand what you mean, we’re always going to have the responsibility of our baby. And it’s okay, at least we are doing it together.” You we’re rubbing his back as you tried to settle again, but it was no use, you were awake now.
“When we have the baby, it’ll be a relief.” You sighed, your hands now grabbing his muscles, trying not to audibly react to the contraction currently ripping through your lower region. But Ben noticed.
He quickly rolled over, scanning your face to see you grimacing. You couldn’t hide it anymore, the warmth between your legs and the pain in your stomach. It was happening, now.
“Fuck,” the profanity fell from his lips as he ushered you up, carrying you to his car. The rest of the night was a blur, driving you to the hospital, waiting for you to be taken to a ward, and finally sitting beside you as you were slowly dilating. He could barely process wrist was going on, bless him, your reproductive system was contracting and yet you were more calm than he was.
“Ben,” you whispered, your voice hoarse from crying out in pain, “look at me, bubs,” he turned his head to face you, your glimmering eyes slowing his rapidly beating heart, “we’ll be okay, this is okay. I can’t wait to meet our daughter.”
You weren’t fully dilated yet, but you were dilated enough to keep your spot on the ward. Ben had contacted Mason, someone who had been super close to the two of you as your pregnancy developed. You’d told Mason before Ben, working out how to tell him you were expecting his child. Mason was so excited to be an uncle to yet another baby. And he’d arrived within half an hour.
“Y/N,” Mason cheered quietly, balloons and a card in hand, making you and Ben burst out in laughter, “gorgeous, how are you?” You embraced him and smiled as he kissed your cheek, going to greet Ben with a hug.
“Tired. I can’t believe she’s keeping me up to birth her,” you sighed, Mason sitting on the other side of your bed, “she couldn’t have waited until the morning.” Ben was rubbing your forehead with his thumb, trying to keep you calm, even though he was freaking out himself.
“She’s already a little shit. I love her.” Mason commented, smiling cheekily at the thought of him and her causing you both grief as she grows up. “I’m going to get some food for us all, at McDonald’s or something, the food here is vomit, let me know what happens.” He departed with a hug to you both again, and the nerves were back.
“What a lucky girl she’ll be.” You mentioned, holding Ben’s hand in yours and placing them both over your stomach. “Uncle Mase, the best daddy in the world, and me.”
“Her gorgeous mum.”
The peaceful moment had passed and was long forgotten, as minutes later, you were being told to push. Ben kept hold of your hand the whole time, feeling his bones almost break as you squeezed it. Hearing your cries of pain was slowly tearing his heart out, but it was all worth it. Hearing the cries of his baby, his soon-to-be whole world, and your whimpers, it was all worth it to him.
He sat down in shock, unable to process that he was now a father. You were sweaty and uncomfortable, catching your breath and trying to regulate it as your baby was taken away to be cleaned. Ben held your hand and turned to look at you, the pair of you laughing in disbelief.
“You’re a daddy now.” You cooed, leaning into his touch as he held your cheek, his gaze so lovingly as he stared down at you. Your stare was broken when they brought your baby girl back in, wrapped in blankets.
You held her in your arms, staring down at her perfect features. She was so beautiful. She was yours. Ben shifted into the bed with you, arm around you and the other supporting the baby in your arms. To make your night even better, Mason had walked in with food bags.
“I didn’t know what you were craving this time, so I got-” Mason had cut off as he looked up to see you both with a baby in your arms. He’d frantically placed the bags on the shelf beside you and cooed at the newborn in your arms. “You’re a milf now, Y/N.”
You laughed at Mason’s comment, unable to take your eyes away from your precious daughter. Until Ben held his arms out, your heart melting as you handed her to him. She fit so perfectly against his chest, Ben was careless to the tears falling down his face as he held his daughter in his arms. Nothing mattered in this moment except you and her. Nothing. The world was silent as he stared down at her, hoping she’d stay this tiny forever.
“Okay, I looked it up.” Mason called out, phone in one hand and his drink in the other, staring at both you and Ben, who looked back at Mason with confusion, “the female version of ‘Mason’ is ‘Maisie’ or ‘Macy’. What are we thinking?”
“I’m thinking you should shut up before you’re covered in Big Mac sauce.” You replied, stealing one of his fries and looking over to your boyfriend, who was still completely entranced by his little girl.
“I like Maisie.” Ben stated, Mason’s grin widening before sticking his tongue out at you. “I mean, sure, it’s got severe ties to Mason, but it’s cute.”
“Maisie, it is.”

Happiness (Part 3)
Evermore
Hey everyone here’s part 3, the last part, as requested by so many of you. Hope you like it. Enjoy!
-
After they dropped Izzie of at the hospital to see her mother alone at first, Jo convinced Alex to drive them to the loft and order some lunch. The twins were already sleepy from the flight and also jet lagged, so Alex gave in and drove them to the place he once called home instead of driving them around city, looking for a hotel to stay at.
As soon as they walked through the loft door, Alex has this weird feeling of being home again. It feels like the place where he belongs, the place he once thought he would start a family with Jo in - now he sort of does but he also feels like a complete stranger. Like he shouldn't be here. Like he shouldn't be allowed to feel like home here.
He immediately notices the missing of all their pictures. The corner were is workout stuff used to be holds two cribs and a changing table now. Most of the stuff he once brought into the loft is gone. Jo's closet is half empty and all in all it just doesn't look like it used to.
All of them get rid of their shoes and jackets and Jo prepares the bed for the twins, so they could take a nap. She and Alex sat on the couch talking until the twins woke up again and they ordered pizza.
The evening went over rather quickly with them watching movies and playing games. Heavy hearted the twins said goodbye to their new friend Jo, but got immediately excited again when she promised to accompany them at the zoo tomorrow.
Exhausted Jo falls into bed that night. Letting the day reminisce. She's really relieved that the twins immediately liked her and also that Alex is back or at least near. It makes her feel safer, to know that if something would happen now Alex is only a fifteen minutes drive away and not a three and a half hours flight. Although her due date is still seven weeks away, you just never know.
-
For Alex the next morning starts quite early - like almost every day with the twins but today they are extra excited. From getting them dressed, through breakfast and through out the whole car ride to the loft, they couldn't stop talking and asking about Jo.
They pick Jo up from the loft and Alex drives them to the zoo. The twins chat happily with Jo and sing along to the Taylor Swift songs she plays for them. Alex is quiet the whole car ride, smiling and thinking about how this right here is everything he ever wanted - a family with Jo.
At the zoo they start with the otter as requested by the twins. They walk the big round, looking at all the animals before then decide to take a break at the playground.
While the twins play and show Jo their skills at the monkeybars, Alex sits down on one of the benches from where he has a good few at them.
"Are they all yours?" An old man that sat down on the bench with Alex a few minutes ago asks all of a sudden.
"Yeah." Alex answers simply with a toothless smile, not really in the mood to explain his family constellation to a complete stranger.
"If an old man can give you an advise, try to keep them as happy as they are right now. If they are happy you are happy." He says before he stands up again and walks away.
"I see while I was gone you made a new friend your age." Jo jokes as she comes towards him and sits down on the bench.
"Shut up." He snorts, keeping his eyes on the twins.
"Never." She mocks, laughing at the sulky look on his face.
They sit in silence watching the twins play for a while, when out of nowhere Jo grabs Alex's leg and doubles over in pain.
"Jo what is it? Are you in pain? Jo talk to me!" Alex immediately asks concerned, grabbing her hand that's on his thigh, while his other hand strokes her back.
"I think I'm having contractions." Jo answers as the pain subsides and she sits up straight again.
"Since when?" He asks worried, not letting go of her hand while he's also not taking his eyes off of her.
"This morning?" She answers a little quieter, looking away to escape his look.
"What?"
"I'm having braxton hicks since probably a week. I saw Carina and she said everything was alright. But I don't think that those are braxton hicks, this one was way stronger and it hurt a lot more." She answers, trying to take deep breaths to calm herself down. Alex hand on hers was helping a little bit.
"Ok. Ahm we can do this. We're gonna get you to the hospital. Can you walk?" He asks before he gets up from the bench, holding his hands out to help her up.
"Yeah." Jo answers, taking both of his hands and letting him pull her up.
"Ok. Alexis! Eli! Come here! We need to go!" He screams in the twins direction, waving at them.
"Noo, Daddy." His daughter immediately complains from the sandpit.
"Yes. No complaints we need to take Jo to the hospital now!" He shouts again.
The twins know their dads serious voice so without further complaints they come running towards them and all of them make their way out of the zoo as fast as Jo can. Alex arm is around her to support her while walking and to stabalize her when another contraction hits.
"You're doing so good. Deep breaths." Alex whispers in her ear when they stop for another contraction break. His arms are around Jo, calmly stroking her back while her head is against his chest.
"It's way too early." She whispers a little out of breath from working through the contraction.
"I know. Let's get you to the hospital and see from there ok-" He says while her head still leans against his chest.
"Sir, Ma'am do you need help?" An older lady asks, coming up to them.
"No!" Alex immediately answers rather rudely which scares the lady off.
"Alex! They just wanted to be nice."
"They should mind their own god damn business." He answers "You good again?"
"Yeah." Jo nods and they keep walking, finally making their way out of the zoo.
"Ok you stay here with Jo and have an eye on her and I'm getting the car." Alex orders, already running off to get the car.
"Are the babies hurting you, Jojo?" Eli asks as he sits down beside Jo on the bench in front of the zoo.
"A little bit but it's fine. It's nothing you have to worry about, ok?" Jo assures him with a smile stroking his hair. "There's your dad. Come on."
They get up from the bench while Alex parks in front of them. He quickly gets out of the car to help Jo in the passenger seat and the twins buckling up in the backseats.
During their ride to the hospital the car is silent. The twins are completely quiet while Jo calmly works through her contractions and Alex tries to get them as fast but also as safe as possible to the hospital.
"Kiddos when we are at the hospital a nurse will take you to your mom, ok?" He explains to the twins, watching them nod in the rearview mirror.
"Ok daddy."
"Good." He takes his view from his kids and takes a quick look at Jo, "You ok?"
"Yeah." She smiles as he reaches for her hand to let her squeeze it during the next contraction.
"Ok unbuckle. I'm gonna get you in a second ok?" He tells Jo before he gets the twins inside where a nurse takes them to Izzie. He comes back with a wheelchair and helps Jo sitting down in it.
"Karev? You can't park here." Owen orders as he comes around the car, which is parked directly in front of the ER door.
"Jo's in labor!" Alex replies immediately, handing his key to Owen.
"Alright don't worry. Go get her admitted I'm gonna take care of your car."
"Thanks Owen." Alex screams as he pushes Jo into the ER.
"Stop!" Jo interrupts Alex before he can get them into the elevator, "Levi! Can you go to my place and get me my hospital bag it's right at the front door?" She stops the resident before he could walk past them.
"Are you in labor?" He asks totally surprised.
"Yes."
"Oh my god. Ahm- Of course. I still have my key."
"Thanks." Jo smiles, letting go of his arm so Alex can get them onto the elevator.
He pushes the number to the OB/Gyn floor and squads down in front of Jo, taking her hands in his.
"You're doing so good." He smiles up to her, his eyes softly looking at her.
"It's way too early." She whispers, trying to hold back tears while she keeps looking into his soft, brown eyes.
"It's not. You are 30 weeks which is far enough for them to survive. You kept them save as long as you could and once they're out I promise that I'll keep them save as long as they need, ok?" He assures her softly.
"I'm so glad you are here right now." She whispers.
"Me too."
The opening doors of the elevator interrupt their moment of intimacy and Alex gets her admitted and into a room.
"Jo, bambina I didn't expect you here so soon. Oh hello Doctor Karev." Carina DeLuca greets then as she walks into Jo's room.
"Hi Doctor DeLuca." Alex returns her greeting.
"Carina." She smiles at him, as she puts on a pair of gloves.
"Carina. Alex." He smiles back, taking Jo's clothes from her and puts them on the chair in corner.
"Ok let's see. Did your water already break, Jo?" Carina asks, getting the ultrasound machine ready.
"No- yes." Jo corrects her answer, as she feels the liquid running down her leg.
"Alright then there's no turning back now. Your bambino's want to come today. Can you lay down so I can do an ultrasound and check how far you are dialated?" She asks, getting everything ready.
Alex helps Jo on the bed and sits down on the chair beside her while Carina does the ultrasound and checks her.
"Your babies look great. They are both with their heads down which means we can try the vaginal birth you wanted." Carina smiles, taking off her gloves.
"Yes."
"Perfecto. I'll give you an IV with fluids and something to develop their little lungs and then we'll see. You are seven centimeters so you'll have a little more to go." Carina informs them before she gets the ultrasound machine to take it with her again.
"Thank you Carina." Alex smiles at the OB as he gets up to help Jo sit up again.
"Of course. I'll send a nurse for your IV and check on you in an hour."
"Thank you." Jo smiles.
Carina pads Alexs shoulder before she leaves the two alone again.
"If you need to get the twins or something you can go, I'm fine." Jo turns to Alex.
"Hell no I'm not leaving your side again. Izzie can take care of them for once." He replies, sitting down in his chair again.
"What do you mean?"
"Since the day I got there she plays the 'You missed five years of their life' card which means I have them 24/7 and she doesn't give a shit about them. Don't get me wrong I love my kids but Izzie couldn't care less. She's happy when they are at school or at a friends house and she doesn't have to deal with them all day. Why do you think she has this big ass farm with a hundred animals and a nanny? Just so they can run around outside and she has her quiet inside the house." He vents, laying his head back agains the headrest of the chair.
"So you have them all the time?"
"Yeah they basically live at my place and visit Izzie when she's free on the weekends."
Jo had heard enough, with Alex's help she gets up from the bed and sits down on one of the yoga balls. Closing her eyes and thinking about everything Alex just told her.
The next few hours go by quietly. Carina checks on Jo every hour and Alex tries to help Jo whenever she needs it.
"I'm thinking about moving here again." Alex voice breaks the silence from his new place on the bed, "Would that be ok with you?"
"What?" She asks again, opening her eyes to be sure he really said what he said.
"I wanna be closer to you and our babies. I wanna see them growing up, Jo. I already missed the first five years once and I don't wanna miss them again. I wanna be their dad - who is around, who is there for their their first words and their first steps. I wanna change dirty diapers and get puked on, I wanna take them to daddy and me classes, I wanna have the whole damn thing - if you'll let me." He finishes, waiting for her answer, "Jo?"
He gets up from the bed and walks to her. Seeing that her eyes are closed, he takes her hands.
"I need to push."
-
An hour later their beautiful babies are born.
Small but healthy. They need a little help with their breathing but other than that they are both perfectly fine.
Jo has Emery on her chest, Alex has Parker for a little skin to skin time. They are all four curled up on the hospital bed - happier than they ever believed they could be.
"They are so perfect Jo." Alex whispers, watching his son and daughter sleeping peacefully.
"They really are." She smiles towards Alex, "And yes."
"Yes what?" He asks, now looking at Jo.
"You can have the whole damn thing if you want but only if I'll get the whole damn thing with your twins too." She throws him a toothless smile.
"Are you saying-"
"I'm saying after all I still love you and I wanna do this with you. I'll probably need a little more time to fully trust you again but I want them to have their dad around." She nods, not interrupting their stare.
"Thank you." He really doesn't know what other to say.
They get interrupt by a knock and the door opening.
"I'm so sorry Jo that it took this long. I got pulled into a surgery with Bailey- Oh my god you had the babies." Levi stops in this movement.
"Thanks Levi." Jo smiles at him.
"Sure. They are perfect, Jo. Congratulations."
He smiles at them before he puts the bag down at the door and leaves the four alone again.
"How come you call him Levi?" Alex asks interested, watching her carefully.
"He was my roommate for a while right after you left." She answers, carefully stroking her daughters rosy cheek.
"Oh-"
"And Taryn too." She adds, taking her glance of her daughter now looking at him again.
"Who?" He asks, scrunching his nose as he returns her glance.
"Helm."
"Oh ok."
Another knock at the door interrupts them. This time it's one of the nurses.
"Are you up for some visitors?" She asks carefully before she opens the door completely as Jo nods. And the twins come into the room.
"Hey guys. Come on in." Alex assures them as they are a little careful. But within a minute they are on the bed with the rest.
"Eli, Alexis those are Emery and Parker." Alex announces with the biggest smile an his face. Right in this moment he was the happiest man alive.
"They are so tiny." His daughter marvels over her little siblings. Scooting closer to her dad to have a better look at her new baby brother.
"They are." Jo laughs at the twins reaction.
"But they are soo cute." Eli adds, scooting a little closer to Jo to get an even better look.
"Right? Don't you think that Parker looks just like your daddy?" Jo asks, pulling the blanket a little from Parker's face so the twins have a better few.
"A little." Alexis agrees with a nod.
"Can we hold them?" Eli asks excited, scooting even closer to Jo.
"Sure. Are you guys strong enough to get me this bag?" Jo asks them, ponying towards the bag Levi just brought.
"I'll get it."
"Thank you, Eli. Let's get them dressed then you can hold them ok?"
The twins nod before they help Jo dressing Emery and Parker. When the smallest Karevs are dressed Jo gets something else out of the bag and hands one to Alex.
"I think you were right about their heads. These are a little big now but just think about their heads if they would have been full term."
"Where do you have those from?" Alex looks at the little hat in his hand, before he looks at Jo.
"Your mom send them."
"You're still in touch with my mom?" He blankly.
"Yeah. And Amber and Matt. And I finally met Aaron too-"
"When?" He asks quite surprised.
"Well your mom invited me to Easter and Amber, Matt, the kids and Aaron where there too."
"We would have been there too but the twins were sick," Alex gasps, looking at Jo.
"Well now we're all gonna be there for Christmas." Jo smiles at him.
"We will." He smiles back.

SUMMARY: Lorcan drives Elide to the hospital when she goes into early labour.
Tumblr media
"Lorcan!"
Elide's scream echoed through the car as he did a sharp turn, hand spinning on the wheel and barely missing the car that was exiting. Her own hands were on her knees, head bowed toward the dashboard, but still, she saw the flash of traffic from the window, heard the horns of cars that beeped at them. Her husband's hand moved to her back, rubbing gently before she smacked it away, "Both hands on the wheel, how many more times?!"
She had told him twice, but still. It was late evening, everyone was coming back from working and they were in the midst of the city, heading toward the outskirts. The darkness didn't help, a bunch of headlights casting the way wasn't too comforting.
"Do you want me to turn the radio on?" he asked, glancing toward her as she shuffled in her seat, trying to get into a position that didn't encourage the lightning shooting over her lower back. Contractions.
"No," Elide seethed, pressing her palms against her eyes, "I just want you to keep your eyes on the road because there's no way in hell I'm giving birth in this car."
They'd had it all planned out. She wanted to have an at-home water birth with her midwife and doctor who had agreed to the home visit. That was supposed to happen in two weeks, and apparently, someone had decided to arrive a little early. She'd tried ringing Doctor Westfall when her water had broke, but it was a few hours later and still nothing. They had all but piled into the car when the contractions had started to form a consistent rhythm. Everything was now messily shoved either in the back seats or the trunk. Elide was about to snap at Lorcan again for swerving between two other cars which had been way too close together when her phone rang.
A moan full of relief escaped her lips, accompanied by one of pain as her whole stomach and back tightened, making her eyes water. Leaning to the side, just reaching over her enormous bump, she swiped up her phone, happy to confirm that it was, in fact, Yrene.
She pressed the screen to her ear, hand shaking, "Yrene, Yrene, he's coming."
Silence filled the line before a gentle chuckle came from the other end, "I was calling to see why I'd missed multiple calls from you, but now I see why. Are you on your way to the hospital?"
Elide wanted to curse her calm demeanour, "Yes. Lorcan is driving like a fucking maniac but we're on the way. I can't—I can't wait, he's coming now."
Lorcan chuckled, rolling his eyes and reaching out to squeeze her hand. She pushed him away before he could try, pointing menacingly at the wheel and leaning back against the chair.  Despite his teasing, she could see how scared he was as well.
"I know," replied Yrene, "Elide, I know how you're feeling but I just need you to breathe. Focus on your breath, in and out, okay? That baby will not come until your right here in a bed with nurses and doctors around you, I promise."
Tears wetted her cheeks, a hand dropping to rest on her belly. "Okay," she whispered, knowing she couldn't promise such a thing but holding onto hope anyway.
After reminding her to breathe and telling her to call back if she needed anything before they arrived, Yrene hung up, leaving Elide desperate and in pain, with only her husband to comfort her. She knew pain with her ankle, knew pain with throbbing migraines and the Braxton hicks she'd started to experience, but nothing hurt like the contractions she was feeling now, and she'd give up her very soul just for an epidural or some gas-and-air.
"Just breathe, El," Lorcan smiled, being sure to keep both hands on the wheel this time, "We're going to be there soon."
He was driving over the speed limit, but she knew that he wouldn't slow down until he knew both her and the baby were okay—which wouldn't be until they were at the hospital, so there was no way he was slowing down at all. Lorcan was grumpy and protective, but that was nothing compared to how he was as a father and a husband. He was always touching her, whether that was a hand on the small of her back, an arm around her shoulders, or their fingers intertwined, he was never away from her side. His palm would rest on her belly, fingers tapping and waiting for a kick in response. She'd often wake up to find him talking to the babe, propped up on his elbows and utterly immersed in his son. Now, as she sat withering in pain, mere hours away from giving birth, she could see the distress in his brows.
"What if I can't do it," she cried, wanting to hold her son more than anything but being utterly terrified of actually pushing him from her body, "Lor, I'm so scared."
"I know, baby, but you got this. That little boy is waiting to meet you, he needs you to breathe and stay calm. I can't even imagine how much pain you're in, but you're the strongest person I've ever met. If anyone can do this, it's you," he breathed, eyes locked on the road as they drove past a sign telling them they were near the hospital.
She could do it. She could hold on. She was about to tell her husband how much she loved him, how lucky she was to have him as the father of her child, when he took over another car and the road erupted in blazing horns. Elide couldn't help but laugh, "You're a really shit driver, you know that?"
"What?" Lorcan frowned, though even he couldn't contain his smirk, "No I'm not!"
The baby kicked then, as though he was laughing at his father, or perhaps agreeing with his mother. Either way, Elide relaxed into her seat, both hands cupping her bump as she gritted her teeth, ready to ride out the next few hours if it meant meeting her son at the end of it all.

Bad Timing (Levi x reader) Part 11
Tumblr media
Summary: How do you tell your friends that you’re falling for your big brother’s best friend?
Word Count: 8.2K (longest one yet)
__
The next few days flew by in a snowy blur. Most of your time was spent wrapping gifts and packaging baked goods to deliver to family friends. You grunted as you leaned heavily on top of the Tupperware container as you shoved in more sugar cookies. This particular batch was going to Erwin's coach and his family. The sound of wrapping paper tearing made you cringe, turning around you saw Hange holding up the two uneven lengths of paper. She smiled sheepishly at you before shrugging and taping the pieces together once more. Your mom and Erwin were currently out shopping at the mall, which was a good hour away from the hick town you lived in.
You and Hange had already been out shopping the other day. It had been very stressful shopping for all your friends and family. You were glad to have gotten the ordeal over with. Although it was stressful, you had enjoyed picking out the perfect gift for your loved ones. Some highlights included: a camera lense for Armin, a set of chain necklaces for Mikasa, a turkey hat for Sasha, a safari hat for Connie, and your personal favorite was a set of fancy tea cups for Levi.
You really had outdone yourself this year, even going as far as buying Erwin supplies that he would need for College. For Hange you had purchased her a fresh set of glassware for her experiments, since she was majoring in Chemistry and enjoyed doing work outside of the classroom you thought it was a fitting gift. Hange held up her finished product proudly, judging by the size of the box you guessed it was a pair of shoes.
"I can't wait to give these to him!" she gushed as she set the box to the side and began folding a sweater that the two of you had purchased for your mom.
"Yeah I'm sure he'll love them." you agreed. You weren't the only one who had splurged this year. Hange had bought Erwin a fresh pair of cleats for his freshman season at college.
"I hope so!" she chuckled as she boxed the sweater and the pair of earrings for your mom.
"What did you ask for this year?" you asked as you set the stuffed container of cookies to the side.
"Oh nothing special." Hange waved her hand dismissively. You weren't surprised, she wasn't exactly interested in possessions. She valued knowledge above most things, so the closest you could get to filling that need was to give her books or items that helped her learn and shit. You had learned that the hard way, a few years ago you had given her a nice bracelet, which was currently collecting dust on her dresser.
"Well what about your parents, are they doing something special this year?" you inquired, you knew that she had learned to appreciate knowledge from them. They used to go on trips and spend Christmas soaking up the culture of wherever they went. One of their most notable trips was to South America, Hange's favorite trip to date. They hiked in the jungle and learned about the environment and shit.
"Aw sadly no, they wanted to take a break and focus on their research here." She shrugged as she wrapped the box in snowman wrapping paper.
"Really?" you mused, although Hange's family was unconventional you admired their free spirit.
"Yeah, I'm particularly interested in my mom's project, she's studying these penguins in South America right now-" she continued to ramble on about her mother's studies and her father's work. Both of her parents were very active in the zoology community. Hange's rant was cut short by the sound of her phone ringing, she apologized before answering the call, walking out of the room for some privacy. Which you thought was odd, she usually wasn't so private with her phone calls, which at times could be annoying. You brushed it off as most likely being a conversation about gifts. You picked up your phone, taking the opportunity to answer the text that Mikasa had sent you earlier that morning.
"We'll be over around 7." her text made you feel giddy with excitement. Although this year would be a bit different you were still excited to see all your friends.
"See you soon!" you responded, you realized that it was probably a good idea to start dinner for your mom. She should be home any minute but still you set about preheating the oven for the casserole and the ham. Thankfully the Jeagers brought dishes as well, Carla made a mean pumpkin pie. You weren't expecting Kenny to bring anything other than booze. You fell into an easy rhythm as you prepared the vegetable casserole. It couldn't have been more than an hour later that your mom and Erwin stumbled in the door and dropped the bags down by the card table where we had been wrapping gifts. Your mom was quick to wash her hands and start the mashed potatoes as you checked the ham. Hange had began to set the table with Erwin, a christmas playlist had been playing to set the mood.
The Jeagers arrived right at 7, just in time. Grisha's arms were full with gifts, Carla toted two pies, Eren held a board game, and Mikasa had two bottles of red wine with ribbons around the necks of the bottles. Hugs and formalities were exchanged as they entered and put their gifts under the tree. Carla joined your mom in the kitchen to finish carving the ham. You and the other teens finished setting the table as everyone trickled into the dining room.
Just as the ham was placed on the table and glasses of wine were poured, the doorbell rang once more. Kenny had arrived, surprisingly only thirty minutes late. He had a huge bottle of vodka and another sizable bottle of whiskey. Your mom greeted him, taking the liquor from him and pointing him to his seat. Now that all guests were accounted for you began to dish out food and recount the past holidays that your families spent together. It didn't go unnoticed that Kenny was a tad uncomfortable, but thanks to Grisha's easy going nature and Carla's friendliness, he slowly eased up. Of course you and the other teens had your own conversation separate from the adults.
"-Do you remember that one year that I creamed you guys in Just Dance?" Hange gloated as she waved a forkful of ham in Eren's face.
"Ugh yes, but only because that was the year that Mikasa's ankle was sprained." Eren deflected, lifting his own fork to push hers from his face. Mikasa blushed and shoved a spoonful of mashed potatoes into her mouth.
"Well I guess we'll just have to see if that was the real reason after a rematch!" Hange teased before biting into the hunk of meat.
"I guess we will." Eren narrowed his eyes as he watched Hange chew the meat.
"We should play Mario Kart first, I want to redeem myself." Armin was quick to change the subject. Always quick to avoid possible conflict.
"Yeah I totally creamed you last time!" you gloated a cocky smile on your lips.
"W-What! No I had the most wins!" Eren's eyes were alight with anger. He was too easy to piss off.
"Wrong!" you said in a sing song voice.
"Knock it off you two." Erwin scolded from across the table, Eren's cheeks flushed when Erwin scolded him but you simply rolled your eyes. In the last few months Erwin had taken to hovering over you and your friends. It was strange, he had never shown so much interest in your social life until recently. At first you had been eager to tell him what was going on in your friend group, but now it was becoming annoying.
"Lay off Erwin, it's all talk." you scoffed with a roll of your eyes. Erwin's eyes hardened at your snarky tone, your guests eyes flickered between the two of you as you glared at one another. Until finally you snorted and looked away with a shake of your head.
"Uh...so who wants pie!" Armin, ever true to his anti confrontation nature filled the thick silence between the teens. Meanwhile the adults had continued to yammer on about all the hot hospital gossip.
"I-I would." Eren played into Armin's excuse to change the subject.
"Yeah sounds good." you sighed, defeated. Armin scrambled out of his seat and ducked into the kitchen, returning a few moments later with the pies. He dished out three pieces onto you and Eren's plates before serving himself. By the time he had returned, Hange had already changed the topic to the party the following day. You sat in silence as she rambled about the logistics for the party at your house.
"I think that Nanaba is bringing mac and cheese, Mike is probably going to bring those snicker doodles that he always makes-" You tuned her out, not interested in her current rant. Tomorrow's party wasn't the party you were really excited for. So you instead turned to Mikasa, hoping to talk about your plans for the 26th.
"So what time are you going to Annie's? Would you like to ride together?" you asked as you angled yourself to face her to better tune out Hange.
"We are heading over around 9, and sure I'm driving." Mikasa responded as she stretched to serve herself a piece of pie.
"Perfect, are you spending the night there?" you quizzed, unsure if you also wanted to spend the night there.
"No, we were going to go back to Armin's but I can drop you off here if you want." Mikasa answered as she took a bite of pie.
"Alright that sounds good!" you agreed, knowing that Mikasa was always a reliable designated driver.
__
Dinner had gone relatively smooth, despite the tension that now hung in the atmosphere between you and Erwin. The rest of the evening was spent in the living room opening gifts with a Christmas movie marathon playing in the background. The Jeagers left around eleven, which was later than they usually stayed. Kenny took the guest bedroom in the basement, since he was spending Christmas day with your family anyway. You checked your phone with a heavy sigh, already it was twelve am. You contemplated texting Levi to tell him happy birthday, but you weren't sure he would be awake. It was already six in the morning in France, and usually he got his three hours of sleep between four and seven in the morning. But you decided that if he didn't answer you could leave him a voicemail or shoot him a text. So after you changed into your pajamas and had snuggled beneath your covers, you pulled up Levi's contact, your thumb hovering over the small phone icon. Finally you just said 'fuck it' and pressed the button, the phone rang three times before he answered.
"Hey." his voice was thick and gravely as he spoke, immediately you felt bad. You knew that you must have woken him up and you cringed internally.
"Hey happy birthday!" you greeted, making sure to keep your voice low so you wouldn't disturb Erwin and Hange.
"Tch thanks." Levi mumbled, you pictured him running a hand down his face as he tried to wake up.
"you're welcome birthday boy." you teased as you fell back onto your pillows.
"shut up." Levi scoffed, you could hear his footsteps as he walked through the apartment, presumably to get his morning cup of black tea.
"you know you love it." you sighed.
"keep telling yourself that." Levi's voice was becoming clearer now that he was more awake.
"I think that I will." you answered with a light laugh.
"you still going to that party tomorrow?" Levi interrogated, you groaned. You had almost forgotten how he liked to stick his nose in your business, even when he was across the fucking ocean.
"Yeah what about it?" you huffed, feeling a bit defensive.
"Shouldn't you stay with your family or some shit." Levi sounded frustrated.
"My mom said I could go." you pouted childishly.
"Whatever." Levi grunted, and you frowned, unsure of where his frustration was coming form.
"Aw come on no need to be jealous, I'm sure you can find some rager in Paris. Not like you'll be missing much here." you chuckled, trying to lighten the mood.
"Hmph." Levi scoffed, you could hear the tinkling of his spoon as he stirred his tea.
"So....when are you due to be home?" you asked, deciding it was best to change the subject.
"Next week." Levi's tone was clipped.
"I'm so jealous." you sighed dreamily.
"Yeah Paris is way better than Shiganshina." Levi responded nonchalantly, you weren't sure if he was being serious or sarcastic. Either way he was telling the truth.
"No need to rub it in my face." you chuckled.
"Tch." He scoffed, you liked to imagine him smiling as he did so, even if he wasn't.
"Well I hope that this next week goes by fast, as much as I hate to admit it I've... missed you." you confessed, the tips of your ears scorching hot with embarrassment. The silence was deafening as you waited for him to say something, hell anything even if it was making fun of you.
"Whatever." he huffed, the butterflies in your stomach fluttered at the sound of his baritone voice.
"Just don't stay out late tomorrow." he quipped and you frowned, why did he care how late you stayed out?
"No need to worry about me, I'll probably just stay sober with Mikasa." You told him, only half honest.
"Never said I was worried about you." Levi sighed.
"Hmph fine be like that." you scoffed and rolled your eyes, not surprised with his response.
"Be like what?" He asked, genuinely curious what you meant.
"Like an ass." you quipped.
"Tch I'll quite being an ass when you stop being such a brat." Levi snapped, clearly you were approaching dangerous territory.
"Okay okay chill." you muttered, backing down before things got too heated.
"You're the one that brought it up.." Levi pointed out.
"Yeah and now I'm regretting that" you sighed, wishing he wouldn't be so stubborn for once. He sighed as well and you heard a small clatter on his end of the line, you figured he was starting the dishes.
"Look I've got some shit to do, I'll call you later okay?" Levi's voice was a tad strained and in the moment of silence you heard the sound of Isabel and Farlan bickering in hushed tones.
"Y-Yeah sure of course." you couldn't help but feel a bit disappointed.
"Happy birthday Levi." you wished him once more.
"Thanks, talk to you later brat." and with that he hung up, leaving you totally alone in your dark room. You plugged your phone in and rolled over onto your side, he could be so annoying. You inhaled sharply and decided that you would enjoy the party tomorrow to it's fullest. What he didn't know wouldn't kill him.
___
"Hey can I borrow your lip gloss?" you asked Mikasa as you leaned forward to apply another coat of mascara to your lashes.
"Sure which one?" she asked as she pulled her hair into high pigtails on top of her head.
"The cherry one." you answered after a moment of contemplation. She finished her hair before reaching into her makeup bag and pulled out the tube of clear gloss.
"Thanks." you said as you took the make up from her. You didn't usually put this much effort into your appearance when you went to parties but you figured since it was the first time you would be going to Annie's that this was a special occasion. Also you had a sneaking suspicion that two of your exes would be there and you at least wanted to look hot if you were going to get black out.
Plus Mikasa was also dressed up, she wore a tight fitting black top with long sleeves and a low cut neck line that showed off her pale collarbones and neck. She had chosen to wear a choker that had metallic studs surrounding the black leather along with some other layered necklaces. To match her top she had selected a red plaid skirt and some torn tights. You weren't dressed nearly as edgy as she was, but you too had gone for a grungier look. You'd opted to wear a tattered pair of mom jeans along with a black cropped tank and an oversized flannel to cover your shoulders.
You sighed as you finished applying the gloss and frowned, Eren and Armin were in the next room over blasting Post Malone. You assumed that Eren was on aux since Armin usually listened to Surfaces or Khalid.
"You ready?" Mikasa asked as she pulled on her Doc Martens and double checked her earrings.
"Yeah." you assured her as you stood up to grab your small backpack with an extra change of comfy clothes in case you ended up staying the night. The two of you left the room and knocked on Eren's door that was down the hall.
"Just a minute!" Armin's shrill voice sounded a bit panicked but Mikasa simply shrugged and headed towards the kitchen. The Jeager's house was a ranch style house with one main floor and a nice basement. The two of you waited patiently in the kitchen for the boys, it was already well past nine. You scrolled through your snapchat, most of the stories were the regular group picture of friends having a sleepover, the druggie kids showing off their weed, and of course Sasha and Connie posted a video showcasing the house party at Annie's. From what the short video showed, her house was dark except for some LED lights that flashed through multiple different colors. The music was deafening, and the kids that you could see seemed to be swaying to the pulsing music.Sasha spun the camera around as she knocked back a shot with her arm around Connie who blew a puff of vapor at the camera.
"Looks fun." Mikasa scoffed, you knew that she preferred more low-key parties.
"If you end up not liking it we can always dip." You shrugged, knowing that this wasn't exactly your speed either. Mikasa hummed in agreement and turned to look down the hallway as Eren's door opened. The boys emerged from Eren's room, Eren wore a pair of black jeans and a dark forrest green long sleeved shirt. Armin wore a baby blue knit sweater with a collared shirt underneath and black jeans as well.
"All set?" Mikasa asked as she turned to pull out a bottle of titos with a cute little sweater over it. You smiled at the cute accessory and nodded.
"Yep!" you said popping the p as the four of you all made your way out to Eren's car. You slid into the back seat next to Armin who was fiddling with the hem of his sweater nervously. Eren resumed his hype music as Mikasa backed out of the drive way. Eren pulled out his puff bar as soon as the car was out of the drive and took a long drag. Mikasa scoffed and cracked the window for him. He blew the billow of smoke out the window and reached to turn the music up. He reached back and dangled the puff for you to take, after a brief moment of hesitation you accepted it and cracked your window before taking a hit. Armin watched with wide eyes as you inhaled and blew the vapor out the crack.
"Since when did you vape?" Armin asked, his mouth agape in awe.
"I don't...at least not regularly." You admitted sheepishly.
"That's what they all say." Eren chuckled, smoke curling out from his lips as he smirked.
"Shut up I'm serious!" you snapped a playful smile on your face. Thankfully Annie's house wasn't far away, about a twenty minute drive. You pulled up to the house, it was huge. Standing at least three stories tall, with a long winding driveway. Mikasa pulled up behind one of the many cars in the drive way and parked the car. Mikasa led the way around to the side door, which was unlocked, piled of shoes littered the hallway. The sound of loud music greeted you as you walked into the kitchen on the main floor to set the alcohol you'd brought down. The real party was in the basement.
The lights were off, leaving the only source of light to be the flickering LED lights, you couldn't even tell who was who. The air was heavy with the mingling aromas of cologne, vapes, and weed. Armin practically clung to you as the four of you waded through the crowd to get to the seating area in the center of the room. As you got closer the overpowering scent of weed assaulted your nose. There on the large L shaped couch was Annie, she held a large bong to her lips as Bertolt held the lighter under the weed, she inhaled deeply and the bong bubbled. She pulled back and blew a puff of smoke right in Reiner's face, the blonde's face scrunched up in disgust as he turned away to cough.
"Yo." Annie greeted Mikasa who leaned down to dap her up. Once Annie had greeted Mikasa she turned her attention to Eren who was eyeing the bong.
"You want a drag?" Annie offered, patting the sofa next to her. Eren nodded and dropped down between her and Bertolt, who once again struck the lighter for Eren. Mikasa rolled her eyes and waited patiently for Eren to finish his drag. Once the bong was out of the way she lowered herself down onto his lap and pulled her puff bar out to take a long drag. Armin shifted awkwardly behind you and tugged on your sleeve.
"Want to go get something to drink?" he yelled over the booming music, you glanced at the bong longingly but decided that Armin needed you right now so you nodded in agreement.
"Sure." the two of you pushed through the crowd to the minibar where an impressive amount of liquor was waiting. You poured some Bacardi into a glass of and added some pineapple and orange concentrates before handing the cup to Armin. He thanked you and quickly got to work on finishing the mixed drink. You poured yourself a rum and coke and then two shots of Malibu for you and Armin to take. The two of you knocked back the shots before wandering back over towards the couch. The crowd had thinned out a bit, something about watching a movie in Annie's in home movie theater.
"-No that's bullshit, I know for a fact that you pissed your pants in the second grade Eren!" your eyebrows shot into your hairline at the words leaving Annie's mouth.
"Just because I'm quiet doesn't mean I don't notice shit." She huffed as she lifted the juul in her hand to her lips and took a long drag.
"I-"
"Just take the L Eren we all remember." Bertolt shook his head and chuckled at Eren's flushed cheeks. You glanced at Mikasa, usually she would defend Eren but she seemed content to let him struggle through this one on his own, still perched on his lap.
"We've all had accidents before." Armin said with an awkward chuckle as he sat down beside Annie, who looked at him with a blank expression.
"Like that time you tripped down the stairs and broke both your legs in fourth grade?" Annie quipped, a small smirk curling onto her lips. You choked on your drink at Annie's remark, she was an absolute savage.
"Exactly..." Armin flushed, lifting his own cup to his lips. Your phone buzzed in your pocket, but you were too invested in the conversation to be bothered to pick it up.
"Want a hit?" Annie offered the bong to you, you nodded. Although you'd never had weed before, you'd tried asking Levi for some of his but he always denied you. Annie held her hand out to Bertolt who placed the lighter in his open palm. She packed some more weed into the bowl before handing you the bong.
"You ever done this before?" She asked as she kneeled in front of you. You shook your head,
"Okay so I'll tell you when to inhale, and you've got to take a huge breath so you can get the smoke in your system. But then you'll have to take another breath to get it in your lungs." she instructed as she pressed the weed deeper into the bowl.
"Okay." you agreed, she nodded and struck the lighter, holding the flame over the weed in the bowl. You pressed your lips to the mouth piece and waited for her instructions.
"Inhale." she said once the weed was lit. You sucked in a big breath and the water in the bong bubbled. The smoke burned the insides of your throat as you inhaled it, you pulled the bong off your mouth and sucked in once more to get the smoke into your lungs. She nodded in approval as you coughed, smoke curling out of your mouth.
"Not bad for your first time." she commented as she took the bong from you and passed it to Mikasa who took a long drag before passing it to Bertolt.
"Thanks, that stuff burns." you coughed, Annie sat down next to you on the couch and draped her arm over the back. You felt the buzz from the weed and the shots you'd taken earlier, making your head spin a bit. Annie's thigh brushed against your own, you tried to focus on what she was wearing, a pair of grey sweats and a cute cropped peachy colored tank top with spaghetti straps.
"I like your top." you complimented, her hand fell from the back of the couch to your shoulders.
"Thanks." she said, turning to gauge your reaction to her touch. You swallowed a bit nervously, you'd known Annie since kindergarten, but you'd never really been friends before, she was always so quiet.
"I always thought you were a good kid." Annie smirked, her eyes a bit playful.
"What made you think that?" You giggled, shuffling closer to her.
"Your brother is like the school's golden boy, and you are always in all the honors classes." she shrugged, you frowned. You were used to people coming up with these assumptions. She was right though, you did take honor classes, but that didn't mean you couldn't party!
"I guess...But that doesn't mean that I don't enjoy partying." you countered.
"I suppose." she chuckled, taking a hit from her juul and blowing the smoke away from your face. Your phone rang in your pocket and you frowned, as you dug it out of your pocket. Your frown deepened at the sight of Hange's contact lighting up your screen.
"Hang on I should take this." you apologized, moving to stand up to find a quiet place to answer the phone. Annie snatched your wrist and pulled you back down on the sofa, the room spun as you fell back down and slumped against her shoulder.
"Slow down there sweetheart." Annie chuckled as you leaned against her.
"I got to go answer my-"
"Nah just stay here, enjoy yourself." Annie pulled you closer, but your head was too foggy to protest, thoughts of your phone already fading into the back of your mind as Annie held the bong to your lips once more.
__
"She's still not answering." Hange chewed on her knuckle as she glanced at Erwin who was gripping the steering wheel. His brows were knit tightly together with worry, Levi shifted in the back seat, tapping his fingers impatiently.
"This is stupid, she can wait until tomorrow to see me." Levi huffed, trying his best to sound indifferent.
"Oh don't say that Levi." Hange frowned as she looked back at Levi, her eyes deep with worry.
"Don't worry about it." Levi grunted, turning his attention back to his phone. He opened snapchat, and scrolled through the stories. His eyes widened slightly when he stopped on Sasha's story, the video of the party played, he found himself looking for your silhouette among the swaying bodies. He tapped on his screen, expecting to move on to the next story, only to find a new video, added to her story less than ten minutes ago. A video of you with a red solo cup in one hand, and a juul in the other. You were leaned up against a blonde girl who was pushing a bottle of Pink Whitney against you, the pink alcohol sloshing in the glass.
"Come on (Y/n) finish it off!" Sasha encouraged as the other kids on the couch picked up on her chant.
"Finish it, Finish it." the crowd cheered as you sat down the cup and took the bottle from the blonde. You looked at the camera as Sasha shuffled closer.
"No pa-paparazzi please." you giggled, hiccuping half way through your sentence. You lifted the bottle to your lips and tilted your head back, the liquid spilled down your front, making your skin glisten in the colorful lights as you chugged the alcohol you managed to get in your mouth.
"Fuck yeah!!!" Sasha jeered, spinning the camera around to her face. The video ended and Levi felt his blood boil. He'd never seen you so out of it before and he hated it. He hated how easily you had given into doing something so stupid, he hated the sight of the juul in your fist, he hated the way the girl's arm was tightly wrapped around your waist, but most of all he hated that he wasn't there.
"Wait, I think Sasha's snap map is on." Hange mumbled, her phone screen casting a pale glow over her glasses as she zoomed in on Sasha's bitmoji. Sure enough Sasha's bitmoji was on the map, surrounded by at least twenty other bitmojis gathered in one location.
"Okay let's head that way then." Erwin sighed as he started the car and backed out of his parking spot in the airport parking lot. Erwin pulled out of the small airport that was about thirty minutes away from your town and set off towards Annie's house. Thankfully Annie lived on the outskirts of town so it wasn't as far of a drive. It wasn't long before Erwin was pulling up a long winding drive that was full of cars. He parked at the back of the line of cars and got out of the car with a heavy slam of his door. Levi slammed the back door of the minivan as hard as he could, the two of them marched up the driveway silently with Hange following nervously.
"You guys please slow down it's icy out here." Hange begged as she slipped on one of the steps to the side door. The three of them piled into the house, Hange knew it was bad when Levi didn't bother to kick his shoes off before continuing towards the basement steps. Erwin stormed down the steps, the music getting louder as they descended. Erwin paused at the bottom of the steps to take in the scene, cups littered the floor, the room was hazy with smoke from juuls and the scent of weed clung to the air. A group of partygoers was crowded onto the couch, Levi's eyes narrowed onto the back of your head.
"Yoooo that's ice cold." Eren's loud voice could be heard over the music as the teens passed the bong between one another.
"No it's the truth." you slurred, the empty bottle of alcohol still in your fist.
"Well sorryyy that I forgot that I had gum in my mouth." Connie said, waving his hands in front of his face.
"You're an idiot." Sasha laughed boisterously as she shoved a handful of pretzels into her mouth.
"damn straight." Annie agreed, taking the empty bottle from you and setting it on the coffee table. Erwin stalked across the room and stood behind Bertolt, who was now on the floor. The conversation came to a halt at the sight of the uninvited guests.
"Woah I think I'm seeing things." you said, tilting your head downwards as you tried to understand why you were seeing your brother.
"Me too." Reiner agreed, his own distant gaze honing in on his team captain.
"Get up we're going home." Erwin's voice was cold and commanding as he glowered at you.
"I don't wanna leave." your eyes hardened with denial. Erwin stepped over Bertolt, once he had moved your eyes landed on Levi, who was glaring at you with those dark eyes.
"I'm definitely seeing things." you grunted as Erwin pulled you off the couch and away from Annie's warmth.
"Hey man she said she didn't want to go." Annie snarled, jumping to her feet, her icy blue eyes sharp.
"Yeah well she's drunk as shit and doesn't know what she's saying." Levi snapped back at Annie, who had a hand clamped down around your arm. Hange shifted nervously behind the couch as she watched the scene unfold.
"You need to leave." Annie growled, pointing a finger at the stairs.
"That's what we're trying to do dumb ass." Levi growled, taking a step closer to the circle of teens.
"Leave her alone she can make her own decisions." Reiner quipped, rising to his own feet.
"Stay out of this Braun." Erwin ordered, releasing you so he could turn and face Reiner.
"I'm just saying, she chose to come here on her own and she's enjoying herself so let her be." Reiner shrugged.
"She's had enough tonight." Erwin countered, shifting his gaze back to you as you swayed on your feet.
"No I haven't" you frowned up at Erwin.
"Yes you have. We're leaving end of discussion." he said with finality, once more reaching for your wrist.
"I'm not leaving Erwin." you protested, pulling yourself free from his grasp. He snatched your wrist once more and tugged you away from the circle. You gasped and stumbled after him, the protests of your friends echoing loudly in your head. Erwin hauled you up the stairs and out the side door, Levi and Hange close on your heels. He only slowed once you were walking down the driveway. You wrenched yourself free once more with a strangled cry.
"I said I don't want to leave!" you screamed, a few tears sliding down your cheeks.
"You always embarrass me in front of my friends just give me this one night!" you cried, the cold air making your face beet red.
"You'll thank me later." He said simply before turning to continue down the driveway.
"No I won't I'm going back inside." you turned on your heel and marched back towards the door, only for Levi to catch your wrist.
"You've had enough for one night." He scolded as you struggled against his hold. Hange chewed on her bottom lip with worry at the sight, this was not how she planned your reunion.
"Levi let me go." you said with finality as you met his eyes.
"No, you're going home." Levi's voice was tense.
"No I'm not."
"(Y/n) you're going home and that's final." Erwin sighed, running a hand down the side of his face. You spun around and glared at him.
"You're not my fucking dad Erwin so quit acting like it! Jesus it's so annoying I'm tired of it!" you screamed, your chest heaving with frustration, your breath coming out with puffs of vapor. Hange and Levi stood deathly still, knowing that the topic of your father was a sensitive one.
"Fine be that way." Erwin snarled and marched to the van and climbed in with a slam of his door. Hange rushed to get in the car without a second glance over her shoulder. Levi remained firmly rooted to the ground, his hand still wrapped firmly around your wrist as you cried.
"Get out of here Levi." you sobbed, shaking your arm to throw his hand off. He finally let you go, his head tilted down to the ground. You huffed, wrapping your arms around your chest before turning on your heel and stalking back towards the house. Levi stood there a moment longer just listening to the sound of your receding footsteps before he padded back to Erwin's car and slid into the backseat.
__
Your head was spinning as you pressed your back against the bathroom door, your lip quivering as you tried to contain your tears. You knew that you'd hurt both Erwin's and Levi's feelings, you also knew that they were only trying to help you. But there was only so much help you could except from them without them toeing the line between helpful and overbearing. You slid down the door with a whimper, you hugged you knees to your chest and rested your chin on top of them. A knock startled you out of your moping,
"(Y/n)? You in there?" You groaned when you recognize Jean's voice.
"Open the door please." He said softly and you felt more tears fall down your cheeks as you reached up for the knob to unlock the door. The lock clicked and you shuffled to lean agains the wall so he could open the door.
"Hey" he said as he stuck his head in, his amber eyes soft with worry.
"Hey" you sniffled, turning your head up to meet his gaze.
"What's wrong?" He asked, slipping into the small bathroom and closing the door behind him. He crouched down in front of you, his elbows propped on his own knees as he got onto your level.
"Well for starters, you kissed someone else when we were talking." you said a bit venomously. He cringed and plopped down to sit criss cross applesauce instead.
"I'm sorry I know that I shouldn't have done that but, I've been really confused....like sexually I guess." He rubbed the back of his neck awkwardly and your frowned.
"I know, but it still hurt my feelings." you mumbled, a few fresh tears falling from your watery eyes.
"I shouldn't have led you on like that, it was a real jerk move." Jean agreed, his eyes still soft and comforting. You'd missed being his friend you realized as you sat on the cold tile.
"I've missed talking to you." you spoke your mind, managing a small smile.
"Me too, let's be friends again?" he proposed, offering his hand to you. Your smile grew wider as you extended your own hand to grasp his. You shook hands briefly.
"So are you and Marco a couple now?" you asked.
"Sort of.." Jean chuckled.
"You want to go back to the party now?" He asked, jutting a thumb towards the door. You nodded, although now you were beginning to sober up. He stood and offered his hands to help you to your feet. You accepted his hands and he pulled you to your feet. The two of you walked slowly down the steps to rejoin the circle of teens in the living room. Jean stopped at the bottom of the stairs his hand held loosely in your own. He squeezed your hand, asking for your attention. You turned and faced him, a questioning look on your face.
"You've got some-" He chuckled, lifting his thumb to his mouth and licking it before wiping away some rogue mascara off your cheeks. You gasped in mock offense as he wiped away the makeup.
"You're not my mom." you teased, pulling your face free as you turned to head back into the fray, trusting that Jean got all the black marks off your face.
"Nobody could replace Angie." Jean agreed as he followed you into the basement. The group of previously rowdy teens was now subdued due to your brother and his meddling party crasher friends.
"Hey look who's back!" Reiner greeted, causing all the heads to turn back to you. You smiled sheepishly and dropped back into your seat next to Annie.
"You alright?" She asked, her eyes scanning you meticulously for any signs of injury.
"Yeah I'm- I'll be alright." you stumbled over your words as the group watched you carefully.
"You want a uh beer or something?" Connie asked, lifting up an unopened can.
"No she doesn't you idiot!" Sasha snapped, elbowing Connie harshly.
"Ow well I was just trying to make her feel better!" Connie cried, turning to tackle Sasha. The two began to tussle, rolling around on the floor grunting as they struggled. You smiled, the pair never failed to make you happy. Annie draped her arm over you again as the boys began to place bets on who would come out victorious.
"If Sasha wins you've got to drink one of Connie's mixed drinks!" Eren said, leaning over to Bertolt who scoffed, his boyish features contorting with disgust. Connie was known for making the worst mixed drinks.
"You're on Jeager." he reached over Reiner and the two shook in agreement before turning their attention to the scuffle.
"Come on Sasha!" Eren jeered as Sasha bit down hard on Connie's hand. The boy yelped and tried to desperately pry her locked jaws off his hand. He gave up quickly and resorted to hitting her head with his closed fist, his face wild with panic.
"Tickle her neck" Mikasa suggested as she lifted a red solo cup to her lips. Your eyes widened in surprise, Mikasa usually kept quiet during these scuffles, unless of course it was Eren being thrown around. Connie's free hand flew down to Sasha's armpit and immediately Sasha released his other hand to roll away from him. Connie regained the upper hand, pinning Sasha beneath him as he tickled her ruthlessly. Jean groaned and slapped a wad of bills into Reiner's open palm as Sasha slapped the ground in defeat. Connie threw his hands into the air and rolled off Sasha who was fighting for breath.
"Traitor" she moaned, her brown eyes glaring at Mikasa who shrugged indifferently. Eren groaned and frowned at Mikasa.
"Why'd you do that?" He asked as Bertolt looked relieved. Mikasa shrugged once more a sly smile on her face as Eren pushed her off his lap.
"So" Connie jumped to his feet and clapped his hands together.
"About that drink." he turned and strutted over to the mini bar, followed by a sulking Eren and a smug Bertolt. You turned to Sasha who was now straddling Mikasa her hands around Mikasa's shoulders as she jostled the girl.
"Come on Mikasa why'd you sell me out like that?" she whined as she shook the girl, Mikasa's drink sloshing in her cup. Mikasa smiled as her eyes drifted to the group of boys, Connie had a large bottle of Tito's and a two liter of Mt. Dew in his hands as he inspected the two, his face scrunched up with concentration.
"Come on Sasha it's not like you wouldn't do the same if it were me." Mikasa scoffed with a roll of her eyes. You snorted at Mikasa's response, knowing that she was indeed correct. Sasha gasped and shook Mikasa harder.
"I would never do that to you! Besides you would win in any fight you fought." Sasha objected, leaning back on Mikasa's lap her arms extended.
"Psh whatever." Annie scoffed, a playful smirk on her lips.
"Not all of us are masters at kickboxing." Sasha pouted as she climbed off Mikasa's lap and dropped onto the empty space next to her. You knew that Mikasa had participated in the sport for the past few years, but you were confused when Sasha looked between Annie and Mikasa.
"What you didn't know?" Annie asked with a smirk. You shook your head,
"No I guess I don't know." you laughed as Annie licked her lips and she threw her arm back over your shoulders.
"Mikasa and I are on the same kickboxing club." She shrugged as you settled back into her side. Your mouth opened into an 'o' shape in realization as Annie dug her juul out of her pocket and took a hit. Mikasa nodded in agreement, her eyes shifting back over to the boys, who were laughing loudly as Eren chugged a cup of mystery liquid.
"Really? I had no idea." you said as you followed Mikasa's gaze. Eren was now leaned over gagging as Armin patted his back with a worried expression.
"-You dodged a bullet there!" Reiner quipped as he patted Bertolt's back as the tall boy watched with a disgusted face.
"Hey where did Ymir and Krista run off to?" Sasha asked, whipping her head around to look for the pair.
"Probably making out in some corner." Reiner scoffed as he dropped back onto the sofa, the rest of the boys rejoining the group as well. You nodded in agreement, it was no secret that the pair had been seeing each other recently.
"Guess so." Sasha sighed, slumping back into the sofa, throwing a glare at Connie who was now seated next to her with an arm over the back of the couch. Eren and Armin were the only once unaccounted for, you assumed that they had fled to the bathroom given the state Eren had been in after drinking Connie's concoction. Jean had managed to slip away with all the commotion, probably to return to Marco. Annie sighed, glancing at her phone with a frown, it was well past three at this point and you were starting to feel the fatigue.
"Well I think that I'm heading off to bed." Annie yawned, the others seemed to be mellowing out as well.
"You guys can crash here or my brother's room is open as well as my sisters rooms." She said as she stood up. You immediately missed her warmth as she lingered by the couch.
"I call Eric's room!" Sasha perked up, also standing up to run towards Annie's younger brother's room.
"No fair!" Connie yelled, giving chase. Mikasa sighed and stood up as well.
"I'd better go check on Eren and Armin." She mumbled as she stalked off towards the bathroom.
"Are you staying the night then?" Annie asked you as you also stood up, not sure if you should go after Mikasa.
"I'm not sure, Mikasa was going to take me back to her place..."
"You can sleep in my room with me." She offered, tilting her head towards the stairs. You bit your lip as you weighed your options. Mikasa had been drinking and smoking and you knew that she wasn't stupid enough to drive so you figured that you weren't leaving any more.
"We'll sleep in Sarah's room." Reiner said as he and Bertolt began to retreat up the stairs. Leaving just you and Annie in the basement living room, she raised a brow as she waited for your answer.
"No pressure." She said as she began to walk towards the stairs.
"Yeah I'll sleep with you." you blurted as you jogged to catch up to Annie. She smirked at your wording and you flushed.
"Not like that!" you slapped her arm as she led the way up to the top floor which was a maze of closed doors. She slipped into one of the closed doors, into a large bedroom with a queen sized bed in the center of the room. She emptied her pockets before climbing into bed, pulling the covers back for the both of you. You slid into the open side and sat your phone on the bedside table. Annie sighed with relief as she nestled into the covers, scrolling through her phone as you closed your eyes in an attempt to sleep. After a few minutes Annie put her phone down and rolled over, now her front was facing your back.
"You awake?" She whispered, you rolled over to face her as well.
"Yeah" you answered, resting your head on your arm as you focused on her features as best as you could in the dim lighting.
"You wanna make out?" she asked, your eyes widened in shock. You weren't sure if she was being serious or not.
"For real?" you blinked rapidly as Annie shuffled closer and pushed a lock of hair out of your face.
"I mean yeah." she huffed a shy smile on her face. You pursed your lips in thought, you had never kissed a girl before, and it wasn't like the thought of doing so had never crossed your mind. You shrugged and leaned slightly into her touch.
"Yes or no." She said as she propped herself up on her elbow so she was looking down on you.
"Sure." you agreed, she leaned down as soon as the words left your lips. Her lips were so soft compared to the boys that you'd kissed in the past. Her hand that had been in your hair now traced over your cheek bones as she licked your bottom lip. You opened your mouth for her to slip her tongue in, the taste of weed and pink whitney mingling on her breath. You met her tongue a bit timidly as she licked your bottom teeth. She pulled back after a moment to readjust herself so that she was now laying down on top of you, caging you in her arms as she leaned down to kiss your chin.
"You're so cute." she mused, her lips pressed against the corner of your mouth.
"You're really pretty" you breathed as her lips hovered over your own once more before connecting her lips with yours once more.

Pairing: “Me” from Playing it CoolxBlack Reader
⚠️: Bit of angst, childbirth (nothing gruesome/explicit), fluff
“You really are an idiot,” Scott states soon after opening the door to see his tired looking friend.
“I see you’ve talked with Y/N.”
“Yea I called her when you didn’t answer your phone since I had an idea I wanted to run by you. She answered crying and told me everything. Seriously man what is wrong with you?”
“Right now? I’m tired and have a headache,” he sighs sitting down on the couch letting his head fall back as the days prior events replay in his head.
“What do you mean you’re not coming?!,” you shout crossing your arms in front of your chest.
“I didn’t say I wasn’t coming to the hospital with you, I just don’t know about being in the actual hospital room.”
Just a few minutes ago, you and your boyfriend returned home from dinner with friends where an innocent question about if you were ready to see your bundle of joy turned into your current argument.
“And when were you gonna tell me this? When I went into labor and you drop me off to the room before turning back saying ‘bye babe! Call me when everything’s over’?!”
“Listen I’m sorry I didn’t tell you sooner.”
“It’s not only that you didn’t tell me before saying it in front of my friends,” you interrupt waddling towards the walk in closet to undress for bed. “It’s the fact that you’re voluntarily choosing to not be there for the birth of your first and, at this rate, only child and- ow!”
“You okay?,” he asks rushing to the closet, watching as you slowly take deep breaths with eyes squeezed shut rubbing under your swollen belly. At 37 weeks, the big day could happen at any moment now and it seemed like your Braxton Hicks were becoming more frequent as well.
“I’m fine, just cramps again.”
“You sure?”
“Yes I’m sure,” you sigh pulling one of his shirts over your head. “Trust me the minute that moment comes I’ll tell you so you can steer clear.”
“Babe cmon it’s not- Ugh! God please don’t bring that thing out.”
Referring to the C-shaped pregnancy pillow in your arms, he mentally groaned while you slowly lied down to get comfortable. He knew it greatly helped you sleep during those particularly tough nights where you just couldn’t seem to find your sweet spot of the bed, but he still hated how it took his job from him. He was the one that was supposed to give you cuddles and comfort, not that thing.
He swore sometimes that if it had a nice face, the right equipment, and could cook it’d probably be his replacement.
“Might as well get used to comforting myself since someone isn’t gonna be there to do it,” you counter glaring at him as you aggressively hit the pillow a few times before turning your back to him.
“Babe,” he sighs with hands on his hips waiting for your response. “C’mon I know you’re not asleep that fast.” Still stuck with the site of your back, a smirk forms on his lips as he walks to his side of the bed.
“Fine, since you’re mad guess I’ll leave you be. Go wander the streets alone.”
Anytime he’d talk about going out by himself at night, you’d always immediately grow concerned telling him how he really shouldn’t go out so late and stay with you instead, followed by your infamous pout. It was his foolproof way of wiggling back in your good graces.
Yet tonight, nothing.
“Go out for a drive by myself out on roads where anything could happen...”
Silence. Now he was hurt himself.
“Woww so you really don’t want me here? Alright then.”
Hearing him collect his keys and footsteps eventually leave the room, going down the hall until the apartment door clicked shut behind him caused a lone tear to fall from your eye. You didn’t want him to leave, but it would’ve been a lie to say seeing his face didn’t make you see red right now.
“Do you know what’s going on in daddy’s head? Hm?,” you sniffle looking down at your abdomen, grazing your fingertips along the dark line hidden beneath your shirt.
“Why don’t you want to be in the room with her? You do realize you don’t have to see everything that’s gonna be happening down there right?”
“Yes I know Scott. Plus I’ve watched enough birthing videos that, whether I like it or not, I pretty much know what’s gonna be happening and when without even looking.”
“Then what is it?! What is so important that you’re choosing not to be there to support your girlfriend, the mother of your child, the woman you told me when you first saw her you knew you’d marry her-,”
“I don’t want to lose her okay!?”
“....and telling her you don’t want to be there..is supposed to keep her..?,” Scott asks genuinely confused, and slightly concerned, at his friend’s methods.
“No I don’t mean....”
He groans leaning forward with elbows on his knees, hiding his face in his palms trying to collect his thoughts.
“The first woman that I loved, who was supposed to love me back, left me with my grandpa who eventually passed away, leaving me again. I don’t want to, but I keep wondering what if it’s Y/N, the baby, or heaven forbid both of them next?” Wiping his tears with his sleeve, his red eyes meet the sympathetic ones of Scott moving to sit next to him. “And if all that were to happen in front of me in that hospital room-,”
“Hey don’t think about what could go wrong. Y/N and the baby will be fine, and when they’re ready, will come back home with you driving so unbearably slow that even old people will flip you off. Which will then make you mad and cuss them out and be part of the origin story of how my godchild will yell their first curse word at daycare.”
“You can see that far ahead huh?,” he chuckles as Scott claps him on the shoulder.
“Yep, just like I know you’re not gonna let the what if’s stop you from being one of, if not the very first, face your baby sees when they come in this world.”
He was right. He couldn’t let his head and fears get in the way of the most important day of his life. Well, aside from his own birth that is.
Before he could thank his friend for helping get everything off his chest, Scott’s phone loudly vibrating on the coffee table causes both men to worry seeing your name flash on the screen.
“Hey Y/N. Yea, he’s right-wait now?!” Automatically, both men jump up from the couch rushing to get their jackets and keys before nearly trampling each other trying to get out the door. “O..okay, yea we’re coming, don’t push anything out yet.”
“Scott hold on. I don’t know-,”
“Nope, no second thoughts. We’ve been over this, everything’s gonna go well and in a few minutes you’re gonna be holding both your babies,” he smiles putting his hands on his friend’s shoulders.
“Thanks, but I was gonna say I don’t know which hospital we’re going to,” he finishes.
“Ohh! Right, on it!”
———
It was as if everything was a blur as they sped through busy streets filled with those either trying to get to the hottest club or bar, or just trying to get home having already enjoyed their Saturday evening. Yet through the weaving in and out of lanes and hoping there were no cops near them, his heart never raced as fast as it was now standing outside your emergency room door.
“I can do this. Everything will be fine,” he thinks to himself as he takes a breath turning the cold, metal knob of the white door. He’s a bit taken aback seeing you in the bed in your hospital gown on all fours trying your best to be calm during your breathing exercises as your best friend rubs soothing circles on your back saying how amazing you’re doing.
“And you are?,” a nurse asks bringing everyone’s attention to him nervously stuffing his hands in the front pockets of his grey warm ups.
“I’m her boyfriend. A-and the father.”
“Oh, you’re here just in time. She’s pretty close to being fully dilated so if you want to go beside her you can. We’re just getting the last bit of supplies we’ll need.”
He couldn’t hear exactly what was said between you and Kylie, but from both of your expressions towards each other, he guessed it probably went something like:
“Mm, look who decided to show up.”
“Be nice. At least he did come.”
“He should’ve been here from the beginning though.”
“Here to let us know you’ll be waiting outside?,” Kylie quips standing tall to meet his eyes.
“Kylie..”
“No, I deserve that,” he states gripping the side rail of the bed. “I know I messed up, and if you don’t mind I’d like to speak with my girl in private please.”
Looking to you for confirmation, she waits for your small nod before collecting her jacket and purse.
“I’ll be in the waiting room if you need me,” she responds giving you a final comforting rub on your shoulder before leaving the two of you alone.
For a few minutes, the only sounds heard in the room is the beeps from your heart monitor along with your soft, deep breaths as you occasionally rock back, nearly sitting with your legs under you, then forth again resting your forehead on the lifted part of the bed that once held your back.
“Crazy how the position that got us here is what’s helping you,” he chuckles to himself before quickly stopping once meeting your very annoyed and unamused eyes.
“If you’re just here because I made a big deal about it you can leave. I’m fine.”
“No I promise I want to be here.” Sitting in the nearby recliner, he scoots closer to you lacing his fingers between yours while his other hand finds your cheek gently grazing his thumb across your dewy, warm skin.
“Look, I’m sorry about not coming to you first when I was thinking of not being in here with you. I’m sorry for even thinking about it in the first place.”
“Why did you think it though?,” you ask now lifting your head to be eye level with your boyfriend. “Were you afraid of passing out or getting sick? Because if so that’s okay, all you had to do was say-,”
“No, that’s not the reason.” At your concerned tone a small smile tugs at the corner of his lips leaning in to kiss your temple.
“I was afraid of something going wrong and losing one or both of you. I already lost my mom and grandpa, I just didn’t want either one of you to be next right there in front of me.”
Doing your best to sit on your legs, you shift your body in his direction taking his face in your palms. Both of you enjoying the feel of his soft scruff against your skin.
“Honey everything’s gonna be fine,” you smile wiping his couple tears away. “Why didn’t you tell me sooner?”
“Because you’ve been so positive and excited this whole time. I didn’t want to be the one to make you start worrying.”
“Although it may seem that way, I assure you I’ve been a nervous wreck pretty much this whole pregnancy,” you chuckle quickly wiping a stray tear from your own cheek.
“Nervous about what?”
“Everything. If the baby was okay in there if I didn’t feel them move, if I they’d like me, if I’d be a good mom. Even if you’d still love me with all my physical and emotional changes.”
“I assure you that you’re gonna be a great mom and our baby is gonna love you so much not only because of how amazing and wonderful you are, and will be to them, but also because I won’t let them even think about disliking you,” he smiles as you let out a small laugh while you both wipe away each other’s tears.
“Thank you.”
“And don’t worry about me still loving you. You got me wrapped around that finger of yours so tight it doesn’t make sense. Then don’t even get me started on how attracted I am with your gorgeous eyes. Adorable nose. Those lips that make me-,”
“Ah..AH!,” you shout grabbing your stomach with one hand and tightly gripping the railing with the other.
“What is it? Another contraction?”
“Yea a-and I think I feel the head coming out,” you reply with voice shaking trying to look to find out, but of course only being met with your giant belly. “T-then again I-I don’t know, but it feels like I have to poop. Wait, am I pooping on myself?!”
“Baby shh, relax okay? Breathe,” he instructs gently holding your chin so you’d do your breathing exercises with him as he moves your gown to peek for himself. “I don’t see anything, but I’m gonna call the nurse okay?”
“O..okay. Babe?”
“Yea?”
“I love you.”
“I love you too,” he smiles kissing your lips again still pressing the call button as if it was his job.
“And please don’t judge me if I do poop on myself,” you add making him laugh.
“I promise I won’t.”
———
“You got another smile for me, huh? C’mon I know you do,” he quietly coo’s in his baby voice gently rubbing the back of his index finger against his daughter’s delicate cheek. “There it is! Hi sweetheart.”
“No, no more smiles for him. He claimed you as a boy this whole time, I know you heard him.”
“Tell mommy don’t be jealous. You have a smile coming for her too don’t you Saylor?”
“You better,” you smile resting your head on his shoulder, looking down at your beautiful baby girl with slick dark hair peeking out from her little pink beanie. “I don’t appreciate being peed on as soon as we met.”
“Hey it wasn’t her fault. Being born was a wild experience, wasn’t it sweetie?”
“Imagine how mommy felt,” you giggle as he carefully places the bundle in your arms after kissing the top of her head. Sure enough, as soon as her grey eyes met yours it was as if she was hooked, staring at you and eventually curling her tiny lips into another heart melting smile.
“Yea, I had the same look on my face when I first saw her too,” he adds, cold nose touching your cheek making you grin and gently nudge his shoulder with yours.
“You’re such a dork,” you reply before pressing your soft lips on his.

A/N: Hello hi!!! I’m slowly making my way through all my requests! I have like four-ish docs left! Thank you for being patient and dealing with my wonky writing process 🥴 I appreciate you all 🥰
Request: hi, can you write about shawn being there for his wife during labor? like he’s holding her hand through the contractions and whispering how amazing she’s doing while pushing? if you don’t have time i understand. thank you 💗
Also!! I did my best to research giving birth and the stages so this is all based on articles and I may have ~tweaked some stuff I’m not really sure BUT I hope you all enjoy it nonetheless!!!
Warnings: Giving birth, swearing
WC: 3.3K // Fluff
“You sure you don’t want me to get it for you?”
You waved your hands in front of Aaliyah, “Even though I’m pregnant,” you took a deep breath, pushing one hand on the sofa’s cushion as oen rested on your very round stomach, “I can get myself a water.”
“Shawn said––”
“Shawn is upstairs on a phone call,” you rolled your eyes as you leaned forward to pick up your water glass from the coffee table, “Oof.” You squinted an eye shut as you felt a pain in your lower back.
Aaliyah stood up from the couch, taking the water glass from your hand, “Are you alright?”
You waved her off for the second time, “Fine, just some back pain.”
“Do you want me to get––”
“No,” you shot her a glare, and took the water glass from her hand, “I don’t need him for everything.”
Aaliyah followed you into the kitchen as you went to the sink to fill up your water.  Once your glass was filled to the top, you shut the faucet off, and turned to see Aaliyah leaning against the kitchen island with a pointed look on her face.  You let out a sigh, knowing exactly what the next words out of her mouth were going to be.
“Y/n, your due date is literally in two days you could have this baby at any moment.”
You moved one of the stools back to sit on and placed a caring hand on top of Aaliyah’s, “I appreciate the concern, but I’m fi––Ouch.” You scrunched your eyebrows as a hand automatically went to your stomach.
“What was that?”
You let out a deep breath, the pain prolonging for a moment, before you shook your head, “Just a little pai––pain.”
“Y/n…” Aaliyah’s tone was one of warning, but the smile on her face was growing, “Do I need to interrupt Shawn’s phone call?”
You continued to shake your head, grinding your teeth together, “It’s been happening sporadically throughout the day––”
“You’ve been having contractions and didn’t say anything?” Her eyes bulged out of her head.
“They are not contractions,” You sucked a deep breath in through your nose and slowly let it out, “Braxton-Hicks are co––common.”
Aaliyah’s smile was beaming ear to ear, having an inclination that she would soon be an Aunt.  You stayed sitting at the island in silence as Aaliyah looked at you with a gleam, just as bright as her smile, in her eyes.
While you couldn’t wait to welcome your child into the world, you were absolutely petrified of everything that came with raising a child.  You were responsible for another person’s life. You had to enroll them in school, make sure they made friends, help them find a passion in life, and teach them lessons in hopes they take them and make smart decisions.
It wouldn’t be you and Shawn against the world anymore; it would be you, Shawn, and your baby.
Two days is still two days, you thought to yourself, this baby isn’t coming out yet.
You pushed yourself back from the island, and just when your feet hit the floor, your eyes widened as you felt something wet trickle down your leg.  You didn’t have to look down to know what just happened.
“Aaliyah,” your high-pitched nervous voice only made her smile more, “Interrupt Shawn’s phone call, please.”
Your sister-in-law didn’t need to be told twice before she was running up the stairs, calling out Shawn’s name before she even knocked on the door to his office.  Being alone in the kitchen with fluids trickling down your leg, signaling that your water broke, left you terrified.  This would be the last time you stood in your kitchen alone because the next time you would have your baby with you.
The harsh steps of Aaliyah and Shawn bolting down the wooden stairs didn’t break you from the trance you found yourself under because all that was floating through your mind was, holy shit, I’m going to be a mom.
“Hey,” Shawn’s gentle voice snapped you out of your paralyzed state.  He gently took hold of both of your hands and gave them a light squeeze, “Breathe.” You didn’t realize that your breaths were shaky, close to hyperventilation, but you tried to match the pace of Shawn’s even breathing.
Aaliyah walked over to you with a wet cloth and a dry one, cleaning up the spillage, as Shawn smiled ear-to-ear, “Ready?”
Ready…That one word held so many sub-questions you didn’t even know where to begin.  Were you ready to start a new chapter of your life? Ready to add to your little family? Ready to take care of a child with the love of your life?
“I––I’m scared,” your chin wobbled as you felt tears well up in your eyes.  There was not a doubt in your mind that you were ready to start a family with Shawn, but you were so scared of messing up.
“I’ll be with you––”
You cut him off with a sharp intake of breath as you gripped his hand as you felt another pain rip through your stomach.
“I think you should go to the hospital,” Aaliyah looked at you with concerned eyes as she held out the hospital bag you and Shawn had prepped a few weeks ago.
Shawn took the bag and slung it over his shoulder, “Hospital, yeah, of course.”  He ran a hand through his curls as his eyes darted around the kitchen, “Aaliyah, can you drive?”
Dangling his keys between her thumb and pointer finger, Aaliyah smiled, “Figured you wouldn’t be sane enough to drive.”
With a hand still in yours, Shawn placed his free hand gently on your lower back, slowly walking out to the car with you.  He kept mumbling how he couldn’t believe that this was happening, that he remembered it like yesterday when you told him you were pregnant, and of course, he repeated how much he loved you.
While your contractions were still spaced out, they were more painful, and you were sure you cracked a few bones in Shawn’s hand, but he was all smiles as he called your parents, and his parents, to let them know you two were on your way to the hospital.
Aaliyah dropped the two of you off at the front doors to the Emergency Room, as she went to go park the car, and much like how Shawn held your hand when you left the front doors of your house, he did the same as the two of you walked through the doors of the hospital.
The next time you would be outside you would be taking your kid home.
Everything was becoming all too real.  You always fantasized about having a child of your own, and when you met Shawn you knew you wanted to have his kids, but back then it was just thought.  It was a romanticized thought of having something––someone––that you both created.  Even while you were pregnant, it didn’t seem real.  Nothing seemed real until this moment and you had never felt this amount of terror in any situation before.
“Y/n, hey,” Shawn’s eyes were wide with concern, “You have to calm down, everything’s gonna be okay, everything will be––”
You shook your head rapidly as a few tears leaked from the corner of your eyes, “I can’t––Shawn, I can’t do this.”
He scrunched his eyebrows together, “I am absolutely positive that you can do this,” his face softened with a smile as he cradled your cheek in his hand, the pads of his thumbs wiping away the tears on your cheek, “As much as I want to tell you how strong you are, I think you really need a doct––”
And like the time in the kitchen, you slightly hunched over with one hand clutching Shawn’s, as the other went to your stomach, as an unbearable pain shot through your whole body.  Shawn’s eyes widened larger than you had ever seen them as he tried to hurriedly rush you to the front desk.
“Hi, my wife––” Shawn was interrupted by you letting out a whimper of pain as he talked to the front desk woman, “––She’s giving birth so we need a doctor––Like, now.”
You peaked through your eyelashes in your hunched position and saw the front desk woman sweetly smile at you and tell you as Shawn recited your information for a wrist band.  All you wanted to do was glare at her.
Once the band was placed on your wrist a doctor and a few nurses came out with a gurney.  You shot your head over to Shawn, not liking the idea of being wheeled into the maternity ward, but just like every moment of uncertainty before, he squeezed your hand in reassurance.
The doctor introduced themself, and the rest of the people on their team, before helping you up into the gurney, and asking you questions about your contractions and other medical inquiries that Shawn tried to answer to the best of his abilities.  You did your best to answer through your gritted teeth and sharp pains in your stomach, but Shawn’s hand had never left yours since the moment you stepped foot into this hospital, so that provided you with some comfort.
After you were brought back into a private room, Shawn helped you change into the gown that was provided, and then the doctor came back in to measure your cervix.  And your mouth was left hung open when he said you were only halfway dilated.  With your contractions lasting a few hours, you assumed you would almost be ready to have your baby by the time you got to the hospital.
“Oh, no,” the doctor laughed, “Television really doesn’t give an accurate representation.  New mom’s usually always have a longer birthing process––The early part of your first stage could be anywhere from six to twelve hours––”
“Twelve hours?” You leaned up on the hospital bed as the beeping of the heart rate monitor began to increase.
The doctor took a moment to read the screen before chuckling, “Everyone is different.”
You felt your palms begin to sweat as you looked over at Shawn, “I’m not ready,” you felt more tears start to cloud your vision, “I can’t––”
“You can,” Shawn’s voice was stern, he spoke with so much determination in his voice that, for a split second, you did believe in yourself, “This is what all these nine months have been leading up to.  I have never loved you more in my life,” his voice wavered at the end of his sentence, “So believe me when I say that you can do this.”
Shawn’s words were starting to break through to you; you were starting to feel like maybe you could get through this treacherous process of bringing a life into this world if he was by your side.
The doctor told you that you could walk through the halls if you were up for it, and that people could come and visit you, but when it was time to give birth, you were only allowed three extra people in the room.  And soon after that, your parents had walked into your room, your mom already had tears free falling down her face as she peppered kisses along the top of your head.
They were in the room for about an hour, congratulating the both of you as soon-to-be parents, and then came in Shawn’s parents and Aaliyah.  Just like your mom, Karen was full on sobbing when she saw laid eyes upon you in a hospital gown, as Shawn soothingly rubbed his fingers on the top of your hand.
Aaliyah still had a grin spread on her face, much like earlier in the day before she interrupted Shawn’s phone call on your behalf.  And like your parents, they were the room for a little over an hour, before leaving the two of you, wanting to give you and Shawn some time alone before the extra addition to your family came along.
You mustered up the strength to walk around the halls of the hospital.  But you didn’t last long as you felt your contractions grow stronger.  You clutched onto Shawn’s arm, as he practically dragged you back to the room, and he pressed the call button for the doctor.
Within seconds, the doctor was in the room, and you were trying to hold back the screams of pain you felt bubble up in the back of your throat, the pain of your contractions happening more frequently and lasting longer.
The doctor measured your cervix again, and when he said you were at eight centimeters, you started to cry.  There was no possible way you could handle the pain of dilating two more centimeters.  You wanted to give up, turn back, but realistically that was not an option.
Shawn requested the doctor to go into the waiting room and bring back both of your mom’s, as those were the extra people, save for Shawn, that you wanted in the room as you gave birth.  A few minutes later, your mom and Karen hurriedly walked into the room with concern clearly written on their faces.
Karen got you a cup of ice chips as your mother went to your other side to hold your hand.
You squeezed your eyes tight as you felt another contraction rip through your body, you turned your head toward Shawn, as you tried to muffle your shout.  You felt hot, nauseous, and in more pain than you had felt in your entire life.  If this was only eight centimeters dilated you sure as hell didn’t want to know what it felt like to push a whole baby out of you.
Shawn’s hand was still held tightly in your grasp as he sat up from his chair and pressed a kiss to your forehead.
“Shawn, this is––”
“If you say you can’t do this one more time––”
“You’re not the one who’s about to push a fucking baby out from their vagina.”
In any normal circumstance, a harsh quip like that would’ve started a petty argument, but Shawn’s eyes only looked at you with admiration as he let out a laugh, “You sound like you’re giving birth.”
You shut your eyes, trying to relax yourself, but you were in so much pain and everything was getting on your last nerve.  As if on cue, the doctor walked back into your room, and the nurse who had been in the room watching over you gave him an update.  The only thing you heard from the nurse as a pain, that came so forcefully––it felt as if it was tearing apart your body from the inside out––was that you were almost at ten centimeters.
“Get this fucking kid out of me,” you cried through the pain.
Your mother shushed you, Karen offered you a sympathetic smile, and Shawn thought it was necessary to crack a joke.
“Hey, that’s my kid you’re talking about.”
You glared at him, “And I will never give you another fucking kid again––Argh––Shawn Mendes I hate you so much––”
“I love you too––”
“I hate you so fucking much––Ah!”
“Ten centimeters,” you heard the doctor say from the bottom of the bed.  They peaked their head around your bent knees, “Ready to push?”
As much as you wanted to meet your baby, and as much as you wanted them out of you, you shook your head no.  You continued to shake your head no as more tears slipped past your eyes and another shout of pain escaped your lips.
Shawn tried to squeeze your hand in reassurance, but with your hand gripping onto him so tight, his hand was numb.  So, instead, he placed his other hand on your shoulder and pressed a kiss to the top of your head, “I’m right here.  Holding your hand.  You have me.”
You looked up at him through your blurry vision. While you wanted to strangle him for putting you through this, his words resonated deep within your soul that you could physically feel his love for you through his words.
“I’ll never leave your side,” Shawn whispered as he wiped your tears away, “Now, are you ready to push?”
And for the first time that day, you nodded your head yes.
“On three,” you faintly heard the doctor instruct you, but all you focused on was Shawn whispering his own soft count down until your first push.
“I,” one, “love,” two, “you,” three, ”now push.”
You clamped your mouth shut, gripped Shawn’s hand until your knuckles turned three shades lighter, and pushed.  Pushing was worse than any contraction you felt and you wished you could go back to that pain.  But once your first push was done, and your muscles relaxed for a little bit, the doctor was giving you a warning that you were going to have to push again on three.
You looked up at your husband with fear in your eyes, who was already looking down at you, but before you could verbalize your fears, the number three was said and you started to involuntarily push.
You let out a cry as Shawn stroked the hair on top of your head, “You’re doing so well––Incredible––” another push, “––You’re the strongest woman I know––” another push, “––There’s no one else I’d want to start a family with––”
“The baby’s crowning!”
“You hear that?” Shawn wiped away a few of your tears as you heard him get choked up, “They can see the head of our baby.”
You knew you still had more work to do, but you were exhausted, all of the physical and emotional pain was catching up to you.  But when the doctor said push, you leaned forward, focusing on Shawn rubbing your back, and pushed.
Shawn’s voice was the only thing that got you through giving birth.  But when another sound––one of a cry––filled a void in the room you didn’t know was there, it gave you a new sense of purpose.
“One more!”
“I,” one, “love,” two, “you both,” his last words were rushed together, three, “now push.”
And as you squeezed both your mom’s and Shawn’s hand so hard––that you were sure they would need to go to get x-ray’s for broken bones––you suddenly felt all of the pressure lifted from your lower half as you fell back on the bed.  You dropped your death grip on both your mom and Shawn’s hand, but Shawn didn’t let go of your hand as you saw the doctor hold up the most beautiful baby you had ever laid eyes on.
“Say hello to your baby girl.”
Your mouth was hung open in awe as the doctor placed your baby––your child with Shawn––on your chest for skin to skin contact.  After all the pain you went through, and the tears you shed, you would do it all over again just for this moment.  This first little moment with your baby girl pressed to you, her cries sounding like music to your ears, as you felt Shawn’s tears fall on your skin as he pressed a kiss to your forehead.
You looked up at him with your own tears in your eyes, “Ready?”
Looking into his tear-filled amber eyes, you saw him look down at your daughter, with an amount of love that was beyond how he ever looked at you.  And you knew that he was already planning his future with his daughter: seeing her first steps, driving her to guitar lessons even when she didn’t want to go, eating ice-cream with her all night when she would inevitably go through her first heartbreak, and then seeing the pure joy in her eyes when she would eventually get into her first choice school––Even though that was 18 years in the future––she was his daughter, and he knew that she was destined for great things.
And with a sniffle, he pressed a soft kiss to your lips and then to his daughter’s head, “Ready.”

what are you doing new year’s eve?
So this final fic of 2020 is dedicated to @odd-birds-and-booksellers for multiple reasons. Firstly she’s been my first friend in the Jolex fandom and one of the reasons the group chat exists. Despite how much we make fun of each other she’s truly become one of my favorite people (she knew I was pregnant approximately 15 seconds after I peed on a stick and hours before anyone else) and I wouldn’t have stuck around here without her.
Secondly it’s dedicated to her because my final fic for the year is an ode to the reason I’m in this fandom in the first place and the series she keeps begging me to write for. That’s right y’all, I’m posting a piece for my “It’s Nothing Funny Just to Talk/Little Pieces of You” universe! (she thought I was gonna kill someone... hehehe)
I hope y’all enjoy this cute and fluffy one shot! Thank you all for reading, commenting, and encouraging me to write this year!
also one million anons asked me for a birth fic... well here it kinda is
xoxo Nina
Maybe it's much too early in the game
Oh, but I thought I'd ask you just the same
What are you doing New Year's, New Year's Eve?
Jo was fine, really she was. She blamed being two weeks from her due date for the state of discomfort she found herself in. She’d been experiencing Braxton Hicks for almost a month already (something Alex loved to point out that he could always see as it happened, much to Jo’s annoyance) so the tightening of her abdomen wasn’t a new feeling. What was new was the aching in her back and hips that had prompted her to take a long steamy shower in an attempt to ease a bit of the pain and discomfort she felt.
The water had helped a bit, but all Jo really wanted was for Alex to rub her back and hold her while she napped. He had asked before he left for work if she was alright, but Jo had assured him she was fine. New Year’s Eve was always a long night for him at work with an influx of teenagers hurt by firework accidents or drunken mishaps. She has reminded him that she wasn’t due for two weeks and she would make it through one night without him there. Now though, Jo was regretting her decision as she struggled to get comfortable on their couch, her back aching as she shifted back and forth.
“Hoooooly shit,” Jo gripped the armrest of the couch tightly as she attempted to sit up, a roaring pain ripping through her stomach as she desperately tried to get air into her lungs. The feeling passed after a moment, letting her take a deep breath as she settled one hand onto her stomach. “I need you to calm down in there, please and thank you.” Her phone chose that moment to ding loudly, a text from Alex popping up as she reached for her phone.
Thursday 4:39 PM
How are my girls doing?
Thursday 4:41 PM
all good over here :)
Deciding not to mention her pain, Jo set her phone aside and went to the kitchen to grab a glass of water. Whenever her Braxton Hicks got bad Alex would always tell her it was because she was dehydrated. He was usually right, though she’d never admit it, but the water usually calmed down the sensations flowing through her body.
Slowly making her way to the kitchen, Jo grabbed a glass and sipped on the water as she tried to even her breathing. Her mind was already racing, heart pounding as she tried to keep her composure. She’d only had one bad spout of pain, it could be a fluke or a pulled muscle for all she knew.
The searing pain she’d felt only minutes before returned again, the glass in her hands slipping from her fingers as a pained groan left her. Watching the water and glass splatter across the counter top, Jo realized how serious her pain was. Her eyes flitted to the clock, noting it was just hitting 5 PM. Alex would be home at 11, she would hold out as long as she could until then.
-
Thursday 6:32 PM
Want me to grab a late dinner for us? Figure you’ll still be up anyways.
Alex stared down at the text he’d sent almost 20 minutes earlier as if his staring would prompt a response from his wife. Logically he knew she was probably sleeping, but he’d been worried about her all day. She’d barely slept the night before and her back had been hurting for almost two days now. He wasn’t stupid he’d done enough rounds on OB to know that Jo was probably getting close to going into labor, a thought that both excited and terrified him. Erring on the side of caution, he dialed Jo’s number and waited for her to answer.
“Hi you’ve reached Josephine Karev! I’m probably teaching right now so leave a message after the beep!”
“Hey babe, call me back whenever you can. Love you.”
Hanging up the phone and grumbling to himself, Alex begrudgingly turned back to his patient files. He had a lot of work to do, but his mind was currently occupied worrying about his wife and their unborn daughter.
-
“Oh shit… oh shit no no no,” Jo’s panicked cries echoed across the empty loft as another contraction made its way through her stomach, her body curling in on itself as she struggled to lean against the couch. A glance at the clock in the kitchen told her it was only 7:19 meaning Alex wouldn’t be home for a few more hours.
She knew she couldn’t last that long, her contractions were steadily growing closer together and more painful. Reaching for her phone, Jo sent off a quick text before focusing her attention on breathing through the steady flow of contractions now racking her body.
Thursday 7:21 PM
in labor, moving fast. need drugs and husband.
-
It was nearing 8 PM and Alex still hadn’t heard from Jo for the last three hours. He’d called twice to no answer and his texts were sent but not read. He was ready to jump in the car and rush home to check on her when someone called out his name.
“Alex!”
Jackson Avery was jogging towards him, dressed in a button up and slacks with a six month old Harriet on his hip. He’d been talking about his mom’s New Year’s Eve party all week, so Alex was shocked to see him there.
“Hey man, you skipping out on the party,” Alex searched Jackson’s serious expression for a moment, reading his best friend's face easily and letting a sigh out. “Where is she?”
“April took her up to L&D while I came to find you. She was screaming at me the whole drive here,” Jackson smirked at Alex as they walked down the halls. “I’m sure you’re in for a fun night.”
Thanking Jackson, Alex headed towards the maternity ward with a sense of urgency. He knew if Jo had been worried enough to call April that she was probably pretty far along in her labor. Spotting the red head down the hall, he picked up his pace and stopped in front of her.
“They’re just checking her out now, her contractions have been coming every three and half minutes but I think they’re speeding up,” April gave Alex a small smile as she made to leave. “She’s been asking for you the whole time.”
“Thanks April.”
“It’s the least I could do. When I was in labor she sat with me while Jackson was in surgery despite the fact that she was throwing up every twenty minutes from her morning sickness,” April shrugged. “Besides if I didn’t go she probably would’ve given birth on your couch.”
Alex chuckled, his hand rubbing his neck nervously, “I’ll text you guys when she’s here, thanks again.”
April left then, Alex taking a breath before entering the room that April had just left. Jo was laid in bed, eyes closed and curled in on herself as she struggled through a contraction. Surging forward Alex placed one hand on Jo’s back as the other moved to run through her hair. She instantly relaxed at his touch, eyes popping open to meet his.
“I was wondering why you weren’t answering my texts,” Alex leaned down to press a kiss against her forehead. “You need anything? Water, ice chips, hard drugs?”
Jo shook her head, breathing through the end of her contraction before speaking again, “No they said I’m too far along for an epidural. I just have to suffer until she gets here. My water broke as soon as I walked into the hospital, I think she knew you were waiting.”
Eyeing the monitor tracking her contractions, Alex realized that she was nearing the end of her labor, “You should’ve called me, I could’ve come to get you.”
“Doesn’t matter, I’m here now,” Jo leaned against Alex’s hand as she struggled to pull a breath in. “Ow ow ow ow, holy shit mother-”
Jo’s next words were silenced as she pressed her face against Alex’s chest, fists clenched against the bed rail as her body tensed once more. Keeping his eyes on her monitor, Alex kept his fingers running through Jo’s hair in an attempt to comfort her, “Breathe baby, it’s okay just breathe.”
Once she finally took a deep breath Jo relaxed in Alex’s hold, her voice alarmingly calm as she spoke, “I really need to push. Like right now.”
“Let me get the doctor, just hold on a minute babe,” Alex couldn’t help the wide grin he sported as he left Jo’s side to call down the hallway for her doctor. In just a little while they were going to be parents…
-
“5, 4, 3, 2, 1… Happy New Year!”
The TV played softly in the background as fireworks lit up the dim hospital room but Alex and Jo weren’t paying attention to the celebration of the new year. Both had their eyes firmly locked on the sleeping bundle in Jo’s arms, light curls peeking out of the pink hat on her head as her lips pursed in her sleep.
“You do that when you’re sleeping,” Alex pointed out as he ran his finger down his daughter’s cheek. “You look like a fish, it’s kinda funny that she’s already doing it.” “She’s not even three hours old and you’re comparing her to a fish,” Jo chuckled as she looked from her daughter to her husband. “She needs a name still.”
“How about Goldie,” Alex’s suggestion earned him a slap on the arm from Jo, a laugh escaping him as she did so. “I was kidding! What about the one you really liked?” Eyeing her daughter as if testing out the name she’d brought up so many months ago, a grin settled on Jo’s face, “I like it. Annabeth Brooke Karev.”
“Glad we finally decided on that, I thought you were never going to choose,” Alex pressed a kiss to Jo’s lips, then another to the top of Annie’s head. “Happy New Year Annie.”
Wonder whose arms will hold you good and tight
When it's exactly 12 o'clock, midnight
Welcoming in the New Year, New Year's Eve

Monsta X: Their S/O goes in labour at the worst time
Genre: mafia au!, crack and fluff
Warning: swearing, violence.
---
Shownu:
You did not want to be here right now. At all. You wanted to be home, in bed, watching Netflix TV-shows as Shownu gave you a foot massage. But no, here you were in the middle of a gang deal. A deal that your dumb husband begged for you to accompany him.
Sitting on your husband’s right side, you listened to every words that were spoken not really understanding what was going on.
Blablabla territory blabla respecting each other’s land blablablabla.
You were getting bored; you needed something to distract you, to entertain you.
You wished you hadn’t thought that, because at the same exact time you started to have contractions. Thinking they were Braxton hicks, you didn’t think much of it. Then, a really strong contraction came making you grip your husband’s thigh.
Shownu stopped talking to the other mafia leader. “Babe, you ok?”
“No,” you said looking at the ground trying your hardest to breath through the pain, “I think I’m in labour.”
“O..Ok” stuttered your husband. ”Can you hold it for a minute? We’re almost done here.”
You lifted your head and narrowed your eyes at Shownu. “Son Hyunwoo. I swear, I will drive to the hospital and have this baby all by myself. And when I’ll be done, I’m going to come back and chop your balls off.”
Shownu looked back at the other mafia leader. “I’m very sorry, we need to go”
“No problem, we can continue this deal when that little one is here.” Smiled the other leader.
“Thanks Jaebum.” Said Shownu helping you getting up. “How are you feeling baby?”
“Like shit. These contractions hurt like a hell and you were about to chose making a deal over me.”
Shownu laughed. “I’m sorry love. Now, let’s go have a baby!”
Wonho:
Left. Right. Duck, Uppercut. Left.
His body was in autopilot when he was in the ring. Nothing could stop him from winning. Nothing. Tonight was the biggest night of fights. Boxers from different gangs all gathered to beat each other up until only one boxer remained. The Clan needed that win.Wonho, who suffered a shoulder injury, hadn’t been in the ring in a long time and, because of that, The Clan dropped from the scoreboard.
Right. And his opponent was down. A smile crept on his lips as the other guy was dragged out of the ring.
Wonho turned around to talk to Shownu and to catch a glimpse of your face. You were, after all, his good luck charm. But as his eyes searched the crowd for you, he didn’t see you or Kinhyun, whom Wonho assigned as your personal nurse for the last nine month.
Wonho took his mouthpiece out. “Shownu where the fuck is my girlfriend?”
Shownu passed a hand on his face. “Don’t panic..”
“These words are doing the complete opposite Boss.” Cut Wonho. “Where is she?”
“She’s in labour, Kihyun took her to the hospital.”
“WHAT?!”  Wonho screamed so loudly everyone looked at him. “I have to go, Boss I gotta go my baby girl is coming!”
Shownu jumped in the ring and grabbed a fistful of Wonho’s shirt. “No. You are not going.”
Wonho’s heart stopped. Was Shownu for real right now?
“But, Boss..” He started to protest.
“We need that win and we need that winning money so you’ll fight until you’re the only one left standing. Right now, she’s just having contractions and it can take hours before she’s ready to push. Kinhyun assured me that he was going to call when it’ll be time. Then, I’ll think about letting you go. Am I understood?”
Wonho’s next opponent was announce and the crowd started cheering.
“I hate you.” Said Wonho.
He put back his mouthpiece and went to work.
Minhyuk:
He barged in the hospital. Running around like a headless chicken
“Where, the fuck, is the maternity wing?” He wondered out loud
Every one looked at him in horror. He knew he looked awful but he didn’t care at the moment. All he cared about was finding you and Kihyun so he could rip his head off.
A nurse grabbed his arm. “Sir are you ok? You’re bleeding we need to attend to you right now.”
“What?” Asked Minhyuk. He wasn’t bleeding, what was this nurse talking about? He looked at his chest, where the nurse was staring. “Oh this,” he pointed at his bloody shirt, “don’t worry it’s not my blood. I’m fine but could you help me find the maternity wing? My wife just got admitted and I need to find her.”
“Sure, follow me. Do you know what room?”
Minhyuk was happy that nurse guided him because he would’ve never found your room. And he would’ve never found Kihyun waiting outside said room.
Minhyuk thanked the nurse before marching towards his friend.
Kihyun’s head shot up at the sound of Minhyuk’s feet hitting the floor. “I..I can explain!”
“You have ten seconds to explain why the hell you didn’t call me starting now!”
Minhyuk grabbed Kihyun by the shirt pushing him the wall.
“The explanation is very simple; you were in a gang fight.”
“Bullshit excuse. I told you to call me even if she hurts her little toe!”
“Yeah, well Shownu gave me orders to not call you when you were dealing with mafia stuff.”
Minhyuk released Kihyun’s shirt. He looked at the ceiling taking a deep breath. “That bitch.”
“You can deal with Shownu later, right now your wife is waiting for you.” Said Kihyun fixing his shirt.
“You’re right.”
Minhyuk grabbed the door handled ready to open it but was stop by Kihyun.
“Dude, you should change your shirt. I wouldn’t want to upset her right now if I were you.”
He looked down at his shirt then, looked back at his friend smiling. “Don’t worry, she’s seen worst” and entered your room.
Kihyun:
“Explain me how, you manage to get yourself shot every single time?” Asked Kihyun annoyed.
Every time the clan returned from a mission, Jooheon came back with a bullet in different part of his body. This time: his bicep.
“My natural luck I guess!” shrugged Jooheon.
Kihyun grunted. “I swear, next time I’m going to leave you to bleed on the carpet.”
“Now, now Ki baby.” You smiled rubbing your belly. “Fix Jooheon.”
“Yes ma’am.” Agreed your boyfriend taking out the equipment he needed.
“Thank you, Ki baby!” Laughed Jooheon
Kihyun didn’t waste anytime slapping Jooheon’s injured bicep making him screech in pain. You rolled your eyes at your boyfriend’s attitude; he was incorrigible.
You loved to watch Kihyun work in the infirmary and every time he’d have to fix a member you made sure you had a front row seat.
As you watched your boyfriend pull out the bullet out of Jooheon’s arm, you felt a contraction. You’d been having them since the morning. They weren’t consistent and you didn’t want to alert Kihyun because of some Braxton hicks. But, in the last hour, they’ve become regular. They were tolerable and you didn’t want to go to the hospital only for them to send you back home. You tried to concentrate on Kihyun to get your mind off of these contractions. You started to rub your belly hoping that’ll help them calm down, but a strong one hit you and you had to remember to keep breathing.
“Ki.” You called but he didn’t answer. “Baby.” Nothing again. You took a deep breath in; god this contraction was a bitch. “Kihyun, baby.”
“What?” He finally answered
“I think your son is coming.”
Kihyun stopped moving. “Like, right now?”
“Yes Kihyun right now!” You snarled
“Jeez, ok let me stitch up Jooheon and then we’ll go to the hospital alright baby?” He glanced at you. You nodded.
“That baby is so dramatic.” whispered Kihyun under his breath. “Deciding to come when I’m stitching someone up.”
“I wonder who gets it from?” You teased.
Hyungwon:
He was stationed on a rooftop across the street from one of their enemy’s base. Their boss had been threatening The Clan for some time now and Shownu had enough. He ordered Hyungwon to kill that bastard.
Hyungwon was ready. He was lying down on his stomach, the silencer was screwed on his rifle and he kept his eyes on the door of the base. He could stay like this for days if he needed to.
“Hey, Faces how is it going?” Asked I.M in his earpiece
“Good,” he answered, “I haven’t seen anything unusual and there’s,” Hyungwon looked at his watch, “only five minutes left before their boss leaves to go meet with his mistress.”
“Yeah, ok cool.” Replied I.M. “Just out of curiosity, when is Y/N due date?”
“In like a week. Why?”
“Oh, well that’s cool.”
Hyungwon felt the hesitation in I.M’s voice.
“Cobra, what the fuck is going on?”
“Nothing.” Stuttered I.M. “Nothing is happening. Every thing is fine don’t worry.”
“You’re talking about my nine month pregnant wife of course I’m going to worry. Now I won’t ask again, or the next person I’ll shoot will be you, what is happening with my wife?”
“Ok, I’ll tell you but you have to promise me to not leave your post because Shownu is going to kill both of us and I’m too young to die!”
“Cobra.” Warned Hyungwon.
“Alright, alright Y/N is in labour right now. Bunny and her are at the hospital.”
Hyungwon didn’t answer, of course this would happen. He checked his watch: three minutes left.
“Cobra,” started Hyungwon, “send Party. I need a gateway driver in exactly three minutes.”
“Yeah I can do that!”
“And tell him to drive like a madman.”
“Got it buddy.”
He shook his head. He wasn’t even surprise that his child would decide to come when he was about to kill an enemy.
Jooheon:
He looked at his watch. His buyer was late. Why were they always late? He had other places to be: like bed with you. He knew you’d probably fall asleep soon and he wanted to get home before that. Jooheon would read a story to your belly almost every night since he found out you were pregnant. He called it daddy-daughter bonding time and he adored it. He loved that you would laugh at the voices he would make. He loved that you would always play with his hair as he read. He loved to cover your belly with kisses and he loved how you’d always tell him he was going to be a great dad. He couldn’t wait for his daughter to be born.
“Are you Jooheon?” Asked a voice bringing him out of his daydream.
“And you must be Mr. Lee!” Smiled Jooheon his buyer was finally here. If he got this over quickly he’d have time for his daddy-daughter time.
The man nodded.
“Good, “ started Jooheon, “then, let’s get started!”
As Jooheon started explaining the deal and terms that came with it, his phone started to ring. He took it out of his pocket. Seeing Wonho’s name, he hung up. Wonho knew he was in the middle of a deal right now, why would he call?
“Sorry,” apologized Jooheon “where were we?”
His phone rang, again. It was Wonho, again. He hung up, again. Almost immediately, his phone started ringing; Wonho’s name flashing for the third time.
“You should answer.” Said the buyer. “It seems important.”
“Yeah,” laughed Jooheon “sorry about that.”
He was going to yell at Wonho when he’d come back.
“What do you want?” Spat Jooheon answering the phone.
“Finally you answered!” Breathed Wonho. “Y/N’s water just broke, we’re on our way to the hospital.”
Jooheon’s mind stopped functioning. It was happening, he was going to meet his little princess.
He turned to his buyer. “I’m very sorry, but my girlfriend is in labour right now. So if that’s ok with you, I’m going to leave and go to the hospital. We can finish this another time.”
“Yeah no problem, good luck!”
He nodded his head towards the buyer and started to walk back to his car.
“Bunny, which hospital?”
I.M:
His eyes were starting to water. They were so dry. He hadn’t blinked in what felt like hours, but he was so scared he was going to miss something important if he did that he just forced his eyes to stay open. Many will tell you that hacking a bank takes days and many people. Changkyun will tell you the same thing, but he can do it alone and in a matter of hours. He needed to get this done and quick. The rest of The Clan was waiting for his signal to rob the said bank. They needed the money and they needed people to know not to mess with them.
“These stupid banks are getting better at security.” He muttered to himself
His hands were cramping up, which is understandable from the amount of coding he’s been doing in the past two hours.
“Cobra, could you hurry up?” Asked Shownu in his earpiece.
“I’m doing everything I can Boss. But they’ve upgraded their system. It’s going to take a little longer.”
“You have fifteen minutes.”
Changkyun rolled his eyes. He tapped some more codes and then, the window on his screen changed. He was in.
“Fucking finally!” he exclaimed. “Now let’s shut all of the security down and we are good.”
He heard the door to his office open.
“Babe.” You said.
“Not right now angel. I’ve been hacking this bank for the past two hours and I just got in. I’ll come cuddle when all of this is over I promise.”
“I don’t care about cuddles right now. We have a problem. A baby problem.”
Changkyun’s eyes never left his screen. “What do you mean?”
“My water broke Changkyun. The baby is coming.”
“God damn it.” He sighed. “Ok, game plan, give me ten minutes to finish hacking. After that, we’ll leave for the hospital.”
“Alright, be ..” you tried to finish your sentence but you were hit by a contraction.
Changkyun looked up when you moaned in pain. “Breathe angel, breathe.” He pressed the enter key on his computer. “And I’m done!” He exclaimed getting up to walk to you.
“Grizzly, you guys can go, I shut all the security down.” Changkyun said in his walkie-talkie. “Also, Y/N’s water broke so we’re leaving for the hospital. If you need me, I’ll be busy having a baby!”

if i ever lost you i would lose myself - chapter 3/10
Chapter 3.
[REDACTED] Carpenter wasn’t a bad man.
He’s always done his best. He got good grades in school, he was on the football team, he worked for a friend of his father’s, at his request. When he got his high school girlfriend pregnant, he married her and raised the child he wasn’t ready for. How many men could say they would do the same? Just look at Leslie Macher and Judy Hicks, raising their boys alone! And those deadbeats had been men when they did the deed, not foolish boys who hadn’t even left school.
He was a good man, he worked hard to provide for his family. Even if that family was a woman who couldn’t stand him, a daughter with a control streak, and another the very epitome of a difficult child.
So, can you really blame him for the moment he considered ignoring his ringing phone, on his one day off in 3 weeks? It’s the elementary school… again. School has only been in session a month and he’s already received more than a dozen calls.
He exhales and picks up his phone. That girl will be the death of him.
- - -
Samantha- Sam, is understandably confused when she leaves the school building and finds her father standing there waiting for her. He’s never done this before, picking her up from school. Her mother has always coveted time with Samantha, including school runs, and nowadays she’s old enough to make the journey herself. The only time he gets to spend time with her is when he’s dealing with Tara, and that’s not a bonding moment, it’s a being hovered over and judged moment. Apparently, he does everything wrong. Just like her mother. It must be a woman thing, he thinks.
He tries not to let his daughter’s sharp “what are you doing here?” get to him. She’s definitely just like her mother.
He sighs, wrapping an arm around her shoulder – and ok, her stiffness stings a little – and guides her towards his car. “Look,” he starts, trying to find the words. “There was an… inciden-” “Is Tara ok?!” Of course that’s the first thing she thinks about.
“Tara is fine, we’re going to go and see her now.”
“What do you mean, isn’t she at school? Where is she?”
“She’s at the hos-”
“The hospital?!”
“Will you just get in the car.”
- - -
It was a long drive with his daughter firing every question under the sun at him. He had been dreading having to deal with Sam seeing the state of her sister, knowing how protective she is over the girl, but now it’s a relief not to have the intensity of her full focus aimed at him.
Where he finds being the target of Samantha’s attention unnerving, the little one relishes in it, beaming up at her despite the cast on her arm, split lip, and the bruise across her face. The boy she had been sitting with is instantly forgotten at the arrival of her sister.
“Hicks,” he acknowledges, moving to stand beside the blonde woman watching over the children. “What are you in for?”
The woman tilts her head in acknowledgement. “Carpenter. Wes decided to go climbing things he shouldn’t have been,” she says, voice tense. “You?”
He runs his hand through his hair. “Tara’s not… adjusting well to school. There was an altercation, Christina knows the details, she’s down there now. Yelling at everyone, I’m sure.”
Hicks hums in acknowledgement, watching as the young girl grabs her son’s hand and introduces him to her sister. For all that she’s got nearly two years on her Wes, she’s no bigger than him at all. “She doesn’t seem the type, got along with my Wes instantly.”
He lowers his voice, not wanting the children to overhear their conversation. “Tara’s… not like other children, she’s… sensitive.” Hicks raises her eyebrow at that, but doesn’t ask him to explain.
The two adults fall into silence, glancing back at the children. Sam, now seated on the bed with her sister in her lap, leans around to draw on Wes’ cast.
“You know, I’m looking for a new babysitter,” she says, suggestively. “You think your daughter would be interested?”
“What happened to your old one?”
“She let my son go climbing trees.”

Chapter 1: The New Girl
T/W: Brief ED reference.
Tag list is open
I moved to the small town of Hawkins just after my school year ended. When the sun never set and the days were hot and humid. My parents divorce had just finalized and I had left with my mom to live closer to her family.
A new start, she said. But, you see, a mother who was torn between being a workaholic and drinking with her friends in one state is still that same mother in any other state. And my father leaving only made her worse. She couldn't stop, couldn't quit moving for more than a second or else she'd flounder. Mom worked in the hospital so she usually wasn't home much but now, she picked up every extra shift she could get her hands on. Working herself to death and going out with the girls all the time was better in her mind than dealing with anything. Better than being around for me. Not that I needed her anyway. It's better like this, easier for me to hide things. Things like parties or skipped meals, things like the red scabs on my skin.
__
It took two minutes to meet Nancy Wheeler and her boyfriend Steve Harrington. Nancy lived just down the road from my new house and as soon as she'd seen moving trucks she was on her way to introduce herself. She was nice enough, friendly and smiling when she came over, nosey though. Steve was the real reason I continued to talk to Nancy. He seemed more genuine and was easier to be around. He also didn't ask questions that I didn't have answers to.
It took two weeks before I met Billy Hargrove, though by then I'd heard plenty of stories. That he had rolled up from California and let chaos rain down on this sleepy town. That his car was loud and he was louder, immediately drawing everyone's attention. That he looked like a god amongst men, all tanned skin and hard muscle, and that his looks had girls leaving their boyfriends to fawn at his feet.
I had been invited to a party by Nancy and Steve. The first party of the summer. Small towns and bored teens meant a lot of parties, but the first and last of the summer were apparently the biggest.
When the three of us pulled up to the party I stuffed my hands into the pockets of my black jeans and tried to keep up with Nancy’s socializing. A blur of names and faces as she paraded me around. After a while I managed to duck away from her and Steve in search of drinks and found Billy leaning against the open door frame leading from the kitchen to the deck and yard.
As soon as he saw me he smirked around the cigarette hanging from his lips, “well I don't think I’ve ever seen you around here before.” He hummed, eyes scanning from my conversed feet all the way up my legs to my chest-wrapped in an over sized canvas jacket- and finally settling on my face, “I think I’d remember a smoke show such as yourself.”
Blushing, I looked quickly down at the toes of my shoes before meeting his gaze, “I just moved here a couple weeks ago, the name's Cat. You are..?”
Billy licked his lips as he stomped out his cigarette and I couldn’t help but do the same scan over his body. Black combat boots led to skin tight blue jeans which led up to an unbuttoned shirt, sleeves rolled up to show off the muscles he was so proud of, and long curly hair framing piercing blue eyes.
“Billy Hargrove.” He had stepped forwards, looking down at me.
“The infamous Billy Hargrove,” I smiled, "I've heard about you."
His tongue shot out, licking his lips as he smirked, "good things I hope."
"Oh no, terrible things. I heard you came to town and stole everyone's girlfriends. Heard you fought a few guys for their girlfriends too."
He laughed, "don't believe everything you hear."
"Oh yeah? You got a different story for me?"
He smiled and took me under his arm, "come on, let’s find you a drink."
--
I sipped on the too strong drink in my hand, "so it's all bullshit?"
He took a swig of his beer and nodded, a playful smirk on his face, "I did give a couple guys black eyes, but they started it. I can't help it if their girls left them."
I swayed, giggling into my cup, "and the girls? Is your bed post whittled down to a toothpick?"
Billy shook his head, golden curls bouncing, "not quite."
"You did sleep around though," I pointed, gulping my drink.
A shrug of his shoulders, "can you blame me? Not much else to do here."
"Yeah," I puffed, "I hear that.."
A brief silence followed, muffled music from the house filling the night around us. Billy pulled a cigarette from his pocket, flicked his lighter and inhaled deeply.
"What brings you to this hick town anyway?"
I sighed, grabbing for his cigarette and bringing it to my lips. Held the smoke in my lungs until it burned and then blew it up into the sky, watching the cloud disappear.
"Parents split. My mom's parents live here so she packed up and took me with her. New beginnings and all that shit."
Billy blew a puff of air out of his nose and raised his beer can, "to being stuck in this shit hole."
I raised my cup and we gulped down the rest of our drinks.
We sat in the darkened corner of the yard for hours, until the music from the house shut off and the moon hung heavy in the now silent sky.
"I guess that means it's time to go home," I mused, "hope I didn't keep you past curfew."
Billy shrugged and stood up, "dad's always an asshole, me climbing through the window doesn't make a difference."
He held out a hand to help me up and led me around the house to the driveway where his Camaro sat waiting.
"I'll take you home," he offered.
I cocked an eyebrow at him, knowing how much I'd watched him drink as we talked.
"Don't worry, I'm fine to take you home...unless your mom's gunna be pissed, then I could sneak you in through my window," he looked at me, a playful smirk on his face.
"Mom won't care," I murmured, swaying lightly on my feet, "if she's even there."
"Sounds like we've both got winners for parents," he huffed, helping me into the passenger seat of his car.
"What about your mom?" I asked when Billy opened his door to slide into the driver's seat.
He froze for a second, fingers tightening on the wheel and clipped, "she's gone."
"Oh, I-I’m sorry, did she..."
He shook his head and turned the key in the engine, "nah, she just left one day. Said she was going to the store...never came back."
"Oh, Billy, I'm sorry."
Billy's shoulders raised with a quick shrug as he shifted the car into drive, "it's fine...Dad found Susan and Max and we moved out here."
"New beginnings," I mumbled.
"Something like that."
We pulled up to my empty house a while later, the only sign someone lived here being my old, crappy green car sitting in the driveway.
"She's not here," I sighed.
"That your car on the cinder block?"
"That's my steaming pile of garbage on the cinder block," I quipped.
He blew a puff of air out of his nose, a smirk pulling at his lips, "what's wrong with it?"
I shrugged, "dunno, it only runs sometimes. Dad was supposed to fix it up for when I got my license...he never got to it."
"I can look at it for you."
"Oh, you don't have to."
Billy smiled, his face soft when he looked at me, "want to. I get to see you again that way."
My cheeks burned, a grin creeping as I opened the car door. I took a deep breath of the cool air and turned back to him.
"Good night, Billy."
--
I was nursing a headache on the couch when I heard the loud rumble of Billy's car pull into the driveway. Groaning, I rolled off the couch and kneeled on the floor for a moment to let the room stop swimming. A knock on the door had me lurching to my feet and going to the door. I leaned a hand against the door, bracing myself for the afternoon light and winced when Billy started pounding on the door.
"Ssh!" I scolded, opening the door a crack.
My glare was returned by a playful smile, "morning, Sleeping Beauty."
I opened the door a bit more, squinting against the bright sun, "why are you here? And so....alive?"
He chuckled, "I'm not a lightweight and I'm here to look at your car, remember?"
I groaned, tipping my head against the doorframe, "right now?"
Billy threw his head back to laugh and pushed the door open to let himself in, "I'll fix you first."
A couple of aspirin later, I followed Billy outside with a large glass of cold water in one hand and a piece of toast in the other. I hid in the shade of the house, Billy's sunglasses on my face and sipped at my water.
"I didn't realize you were such a lightweight," Billy joked, "we didn't drink that much..did you eat before the party?"
"Yeah."
No.
"Must have just had more than I realized," I shrugged, picking at my toast and tossing crumbs to the ground.
Billy peered at me, "you're supposed to eat it."
I laughed nervously and took a small bite, "I can't eat much when I'm hungover, makes me sick."
A half truth.
"Your dad, he a car guy?" Billy asked, turning to look at me from under the hood of my car.
I scoffed, "not at all. He had this thing parked in the garage for years before I got my license. Found it really cheap...he always wanted a son to fix it up with...got stuck with me instead."
His mouth pulled into a tight line, eyes glancing away from me.
I kept rambling, heart pouring from my lips to the pavement below, "mom caught him cheating when I was little...started secretly taking birth control and staying out more and more. He started staying later at work.. eventually they just stopped trying, stopped talking and started yelling if they had to be together. Separated last year and finalized the divorce as soon as they could. Mom's still never around...I think I remind her too much of him."
He stopped tinkering with my car and slammed the hood down, making me jump, "come on, let's get out of here for a bit."
We slid into worn, baby pink leather booths at the diner in town. A sticky, plastic coated menu was slid between us by a baby faced girl as she batted her lashes at Billy. He didn't even look at her, just pulled a cigarette from his pocket, lit it and took a long drag.
"You want anything?"
I shook my head.
"I'll have the grand slam. Two forks. Coffee and water for both of us," he ordered, lazily flicking his cigarette in the ash tray on the table.
"Uh, oh-okay," the waitress stammered, blushing as she hurried away.
"You always treat waitresses like that? And here I thought you weren't as rude as people said," I asked, an eyebrow cocked.
A smile tugged at the corner of his lip and he leaned in to meet my eyes, "she's been trying to get with me since I got here, can't take no for an answer."
He pulled back and blew out a puff of smoke when the waitress returned with our drinks. She set down the cups and scurried away, keeping her eyes down. I reached for the sweetener, ripped open a couple packets and poured them in my mug. Stirred and took a sip only to scrunch my face at the taste.
Billy laughed across the table, and started dumping cream and sugar into his cup, "yeah, coffee's terrible here. Food is greasy and delicious though."
"You could've warned me," I chided, grabbing for more sweetener.
"And miss your face? No way," he finished emptying an ungodly amount of cream and sugar into his coffee, stirred and took a sip.
We quietly sipped at the bitter coffee until a heaping plate was placed down between us along with a couple forks and a bottle of ketchup. Billy dug in right away, mixing an egg into a pile of oil drenched hashbrowns and pouring ketchup on top before taking a large bite. I looked at the plate, mentally calculating the calories in front of him when my stomach growled loudly.
"I knew you were hungry."
I gulped at my water and shook my head, "I'm okay, really."
He pushed the plate towards me when my stomach rumbled again, "try some, you'll feel better."
I huffed, picked up a fork and stabbed one of the sausages on the plate, dipped it into an egg yolk and stared at it for a second before taking a purposeful bite. I savored the bite, letting the grease fill my senses and before I realized it, I'd devoured a small portion of the plate.
"Feel better now, right?" Billy smiled, "told you I'd fix you."
--
Three days. It took three days for Billy Hargrove to weasel his way into my life. Three days of showing up at my house and working under the hood of my car while I sat off to the side in the shade. Three days of mindless drives and loud music, of easy conversations and small touches.
Three days until Billy showed up later, well into the afternoon and forced a tight smile onto his face when I opened the door. He jerked his head towards his car and spun away, leaving me scrambling to put my shoes on and follow him. I slid into the passenger seat and barely got my seatbelt on before Billy took off down the road. He swerved through Hawkins and turned to follow the highway out of town.
“Are you kidnapping me Billy?” I asked, trying to lighten the mood in the car.
Billy flicked his cigarette out his window and turned to me, a light smile on his face, “you’re not scared are you, Baby?”
I smirked, “being taken by an almost stranger into the forest? Not scary at all."
He chuckled and turned up the music, continuing his drive into the forest. When he pulled into a clearing and parked the car I felt my chest tighten with anxiety.
Why did he bring me out here? What does he want?

Chapter Five: Daisy Darling
Tumblr media
Forever? Masterlist
Ashley wasn’t keen on the sticky and sweaty British summer, and it wasn’t much easier being thirty four weeks pregnant. Her regular scans had shown that the baby was developing at a more regular rate, she was still smaller than average, but she was a healthier size now. Ashley only had three weeks left at work before her maternity leave started, she was pretty much prepared, Harry had helped her put the cot together before he left for filming in France, which was an absolute relief. She was spending her Tuesday morning the way she did every week, eating her way through a packet of biscuits, with the help of Toby and Roman when he walked past her desk of course. “Ro! please save me from myself, finish these biscuits off please! I beg you!” Ashley called across the office as she noticed Roman leaving the studio.
He made his way over to her desk, “Okay if you insist,” He took the biscuits from her, and began munching on one, “Do you fancy a brew?”
“Alright then, I’ll come with you actually.” She stood up from her desk and waddled over to the small office kitchen.
As she leant against the counter in the kitchen Ashley felt a sharp pain in her stomach, she winced gripping onto the counter. “You alright?” Roman asked, pouring milk into their mugs.
“Yeah it’s probably just braxton hicks,” she assured him, but then she felt a pop, that told her these weren’t just braxton hicks, “Oh shit Ro, I think the baby’s coming.”
“Oh God, what do you want me to do? Shall I call Harry?” He flustered, dropping the teaspoon on the floor in panic.
“No, he’s in France filming, it’ll only worry him,” she whispered, breathing through the pain, “My phones on my desk, I need you to call Gemma and tell her to meet me at St Thomas hospital, and ask if she can get my hospital bag on the way.” Roman ran off to her desk trying to find her phone and gather her things, she started panicking remembering that the doctors said it was extremely important for her to get as close to full term as possible. She began to tear up thinking about how Harry wouldn’t be there, they both knew there was a chance he wouldn’t be there, but he was meant to be on a filming break in the week of her due date, but this wasn’t what either of them had expected, “I’ve got your stuff, I’m going to drive you, I don’t want you getting a cab by yourself, Gemma’s going to meet us at the hospital.”
The journey to the hospital felt like a lifetime, as Roman pulled into the drop off point, she saw Gemma waiting armed with a wheelchair and her baby bag. Roman jumped out the car, helping Ashley out of the car and into the wheelchair, he exchanged thank yous with Gemma, wished Ashley well and left the two of them to find their way to maternity. “I’m scared Gem,” Ashley whispered to her.
“Hey, we’re going to be strong together aren’t we? We’re going to get through this, us three girls.” Gemma assured her as she wheeled her into maternity.
“You two alright there?” A passing midwife asked.
“Her waters have broken, she’s thirty four weeks, she was at work when it happened so this isn’t the hospital she’d usually be at, that’s alright isn’t it?” Gemma replied on Ashley’s behalf.
“That should be absolutely fine, we’ll have someone send your notes over, right let’s get this show on the road.”
Ashley has been changed into a gown and was now lying on a hospital bed, waiting for the midwife whilst she breathed through her next contraction. “Hello, I’m Dr Stevenson, I’ve been sent your notes from your usual hospital and I’m aware the baby is a little smaller than we’d like.” the Doctor explained as she entered the room, “I've spoken to Maggie the midwife who checked you over and she said baby is breech, meaning she’s foot first, and due to her size we think it’s best to do an emergency cesarean section, we don’t want to put her through the stress of natural labour.”
“Is she going to be okay?” Ashley asked.
“Trust me, this is the best thing for both of you to keep you both safe, the nurses will be along soon to prep you for theatre.” Dr Stevenson explained before leaving her be.
“It’s happening Gem, it’s really happening, she sighed.
“Do you want me to call Harry?” Gemma asked.
“No, I’ll tell him when she’s here.”
Ashley lay on the operating table, Gemma sat beside her, wearing scrubs as she stroked her hand through Ashley’s hair. The surgeon had made the first incision and was doing her very best to keep the baby safe. “Not long now Ashley, we’ll have her out soon.” Dr Stevenson assured her, “She’s here, we’ve got her.” Dr Stevenson held up the tiny baby, cutting the umbilical cord and taking her over to the side.
“She’s not crying, she’s meant to be crying, what’s going on?” Ashley cried, her voice wavering with anxiety.
“Sometimes the little ones need a helping hand, Dr Stevenson’s just warming her up.” A nurse explained.
“Come on love, stay strong.” Gemma whispered, stroking Ashley’s hair, the painful silence was interrupted by the baby’s high pitched scream, “She’s okay Ash, she’s a fighter.”
“Is she alright?” Ashley asked Dr Stevenson.
“We’re going to take her to ICU, to minimise risk of infection, and make sure she’s stable, the surgeon will stitch you up and then you can come down and see her.”
It had reached the early hours of the evening, golden sun was streaming through the windows of the hospital, Ashley lay in bed, the majority of the anesthetic had worn off now. “How are you feeling?” a new midwife asked, checking Ashley’s notes.
“Good, thank you.” Ashley replied.
“If you’d like to I can take you to see your baby.”
“Yes please.” with the help of the midwife and Gemma she got into the wheelchair successfully as they took her down to the intensive care unit.
“Here’s your little lady, I’m afraid you can’t hold her yet, but you can put your hands in and she’ll clasp onto your finger, “I’ll leave you to it.”
“Hello beautiful, did it get too boring in there petal?” Ashley reached her hand inside the incubator, letting her baby hold onto her finger, “We’re going to have to give you a name little lady, how does Daisy sound? I think it suits you perfectly. It’s a scary world out there Daisy darling, but we’ll get through it together.”
Gemma entered the room, armed with cups of tea, “She’s perfect Ash, you did so well in there.” Gemma whispered, handing Ashley a cup of tea.
“Thank you for sticking with me through all of it. If you need to get home I’ll understand, I think I owe Harry a call.” Ashley told her.
“Alright then, I’ll see you soon, if you need anything, let me know.” Gemma replied before quietly leaving the NICU room.
Ashley pulled her phone from the pocket of her dressing gown, dialling Harry’s number, who picked up almost instantly, “Hello movie star, how are you?”
“I’m good, it’s been busy today, I’m back at the hotel now, how about you?” he replied, sitting on the end of his hotel bed.
“Pretty uneventful,” she grinned, “Someone’s decided to say hello to the world six weeks early.”
“Wait, you mean-”
“My daughter was born at 2pm today.” She told him.
“Are you okay? Is she okay?” Harry asked frantically, “If you need me to come back early I can.”
“I don’t need you to do that H, she’s little so they’ve put her in an incubator, just as a precaution, until she’s stronger.” Ashley explained, Daisy still clutching onto her finger.
“You weren’t on your own we’re you?” Harry worried.
“No, Roman drove me from work, Gem met me here and stayed with me throughout, she’s gone home now though.” Ashley explained.
“That’s good, have you given her a name?”
“Daisy, Daisy Alice Hanson.” Ashley replied, unable to wipe the smile off her face as she admired her newborn baby.
“I miss you, I’ll be back mid august though so I’ll see you then.” Harry explained.
“We look forward to it, at least by then you’ll be able to hug her, at the moment she can only hold onto my hand.”
“Well I look forward to my first hug from her, and you of course.” Harry replied.
“We’re so lucky to have you Harry.” Ashley told him.
“Trust me, I’m the lucky one.”
The following morning Ashley stirred from her sleep thanks to the sound of familiar voices beside her bed, she opened her eyes to see her mum Linda and Anne sat beside her. “Hello love, how are you?” Linda whispered.
“Stiff, I’ve been in this bed for a solid twelve hours, I’ve been wheeled everywhere,” Ashley told them both, shuffling to sit herself up properly, “Anne, you have raised two absolute angels, Gemma was incredible yesterday, and speaking to Harry on the phone last night made my heart feel so full.”
“I’m just glad to see you’re alright sweetheart.” Anne told her.
“How was the journey down?” Ashley asked them both.
“It was good, we got the train down, and we stopped off on the way to get some bits for you and the baby, I imagine all the baby grows you’ve got are going to be a bit big at the moment so we bought you some premature ones.” Linda explained.
“That’s lovely mum thank you, would you both like to meet Daisy?” Ashley asked.
Ashley wasn’t wrong when she said she was stiff, she had managed to change into a hoodie and joggers, but walking was a bit difficult at first. She led Anne and Linda into NICU, “Mum, Anne, this is baby Daisy.” She showed them the incubator where Daisy lay sound asleep, a tiny hat covering the top of her tiny head.
“She’s beautiful,” Linda whispered.
“Perfect.” Anne agreed.
“I’m already so in love with her, I can’t quite believe she’s finally here.”
One Week Later
“I’ve got some good news for you Ashley.” The midwife told Ashley who was sat feeding Daisy, who was now strong enough to be held, “The doctors think Daisy’s made enough progress in the last week for you to take her home.”
“Really? Do you mean today?” she asked.
“We’ll have to do a few checks beforehand, but I don’t see why not.” She explained.
“Hear that Dais? We’re going home today.”
Once the doctors had done their relevant checks, they agreed that Daisy was healthy enough to go home, Ashley placed a peacefully sleeping Daisy into her pram, her fingertips just about poking out of the sleeves of her baby grow that was way too big for her. “Right my love, it’s time for you to face the big wide world.” Ashley pushes the pram out to the waiting area where Gemma was waiting with all the bags.
“You ready?” Gemma asked.
“Ready as I’ll ever be.”

Imagine having a second child with Viktor Drago...
Tumblr media Tumblr media
So I wrote this because @lady-olive-oil was insistant on killing people off, lol. Love you Liv!
I also kind of forgot I wrote this so there was more I wanted to write but I forgot those parts.
**********************************************
You weren't meant to give birth so early. But here you were sitting in a nice relaxing bath, Lily on the bathroom floor drawing more pictures for Viktor while you soaked. If you were honest the contractions had started early in the morning, but they varied between 4hrs and 3 minutes apart. So you had ignored them. But now it was 2 in the afternoon you were pretty sure you were having contractions - the proper ones.
"Lily baby, can you pass mommy here phone please" her little head popped up beside the bath with a big smile. "Are you going to ring daddy? Can I talk to him?" she asked as she disappeared out of the bathroom.
Viktor should have been the one you were going to call but he wasn't.
"I'm going to call Aunt Jenny" you smile kissing her forehead in thanks letting her get back to her drawing. "I'll make Aunt Jenny a picture too" she states, paper rustling about. You pressed the call button next to Jenny's picture (a picture of her and lily at the beach) and waited for her to answer.
"Thank god you called. I'm so tired, I'm literally falling asleep at my desk… What's new?" she sang.
"Code Red" you whispered down the phone.
"Huh?" you can hear the frowns of confusion on Jenny's face. "Oh, Lily, I can go get her from preschool" you could here her moving around more on her end.
"No, Lily's here with me-"
"Hi Aunt Jenny!" Lily called from the floor, voice echoing off the bathroom tiles.
"Oh" Jenny was frowning again.
"The other code red, the new one. The second one" you watched Lily for a reaction but she was absorbed back into her drawing.
"Shit" Jenny shouted.
"Shit, shit, shit! SHIT! Are you sure? It's not those fake ones, those pickle hiccup contraction things" she panicked, you could hear things being knocked around and a draw open and then slam closed.
"You mean Braxton Hicks, and no"
"You're not due for like another 2 months, I'm looking at my calendar. It says on my calender" you could hear her voice go up an octave in panic. You were pretty sure she was also poking the calender too.
Jenny was down as your second birthing partner, after Viktor of course. But since Viktor was away for a fight that was still wasn't due for another 6 weeks, Jenny had happily (and in a drunken state) assured Viktor she'd be your number two should anything happen. But it would be fine because nothing would happen because you still had two months to go.
"I know, I know...Can you maybe come anyway, and maybe it'll be fine by the time you get here"
"Of course, I'm leaving now" she hung up quickly.
"Will Auntie Jenny bring me jellies" Lily asked, pencils poised in her hand.
"Maybe" you laugh, glad she oblivious to what's happening.
By the time Jenny arrived you were out of the bath and sitting in the living room on your yoga ball wondering if you should call Viktor or not.
He'd flown back to the states to fight again, and really concentrate on getting ready as this opponent was almost equal in size to Viktor. You knew if you called him he'd freak out and even fly back (or walk if he had to).
"(Y/n)!!!" Jenny practically screamed, slamming the door closed. You could hear her but not see her. Lily sprinted off to find her Aunt, and reappeared on Jenny's hip.
"Are they for real?" she asked looking like a deer caught in the headlights.
"I think so, they've just got worse"
"Auntie bought me jellies!" Lily waved the box and then wriggled out of Jenny's arms and ran off. At least she was occupied.
****
“Is it okay to make a call?" you asked in the back of the ambulance. The female paramedic nodded as she carried on writing things down.
Jenny was following in her car with Lily and your hospital bags.
You pressed the call button and held the phone against your ear. There was a series of tial tones, including the international one.
"Hello" it was a quick, short answer.
"Ivan, it's y/n" slight relief washed over you hearing his voice.
"Hello. You want to speak to Viktor?"
"No, no, no, no, no" there were too many no's for Ivan's liking - he felt worried but the fact you weren't crying and he could understand you made him worry a tiny bit less.
Ivan said something in Russian but you couldn't hear, it was muffled, like he had his hand over the mouthpiece. There was the sound of a metal door slamming closed and then silence.
"What's wrong?"
"The baby, its early" there was a long pause from both of you - you both didn't know what to say.
"I'll get Viktor"
"No don't...I mean I know he needs to know, but not right now. You know he'll get on the first plane back, won't think twice about the fight. I can't let him do that." Ivan said nothing but also agreed. But he also wanted to tell his son. Congratulate him, tell everyone in the training room - he had another grandchild.
"I'll let him know it was all my idea not to tell him, just try and act like everything's normal. Please?“
“Are you okay? Are you at the hospital?" the concern in Ivan's voice broke you and you started to cry.
"I'm fine. I'm on my way in an ambulance"
"Are you on your own?" he sound panicked. "Where's Lily?"
"She's following in a car with Jenny" Ivan remembered Jenny from when she came to the beach that day. Ivan was struck by how caring Jenny was with Lily - making sure she ate and drank enough while still having fun.
"She must call me" you nodded even tho Ivan couldn't see you.
"Here" the paramedic handed you a tissue to dry your eyes. "Don't worry, everything's gonna be okay"
***
Olivia May Drago, born 2 months early but otherwise healthy.
Jenny had called Ivan to let him know everything was okay - you were okay, Lily was okay (but probably had new found profession as some sort of Antinal Nurse specialising in premature babies) and that Viktor's new baby girl was okay too. It was only when Jenny came back into the room, an hour later did you realise she had been talking to Ivan for an hour. "He's so funny, Ivan" she said with a smile on her face. You raised a quizzical eyebrow at her as she peered into the neonatal cot to look at Olivia. "Did you just say Ivan's funny?“ you asked, maybe the drugs were making you hear things." Yeah, the jokes he cracks. But otherwise he says he's glad everyone's okay. I said I'll call him tomorrow"
"You should go, it's late" Lily had crashed out on the bed in the room reserved for partners to sleep on.
"No way, do you know how hard it was to get this parental leave. HR officially hate me, so I'm going to use every moment to stare at this beautiful girl" she cooed, picking up Olivia from her cot.
Lily had been born 4 weeks early, so Jenny had fought tooth and nail to have the right to use shared parental leave to help you look after Lily and the baby assuming Olivia would be born early too, despite not actually being a parent to either. She had initially demanded full maternity leave, but had settled for 3 and a half weeks "shared parental" leave. "That's what they get for not having a watertight policy" she'd smugly smiled sipping non alcoholic wine with you when she told you when you met her for lunch just after Viktor left to prepare for the fight.
You were trying not to cry but the harder you did, the quicker your eyes filled up with tears. So when you blinked they came streaming down your face. "Hey, don't you start crying because I'm gonna start crying again" Jenny moved to perch on the edge of your bed still holding Olivia.
"I know you feel bad, but don't. Everything is okay, you're okay, baby's okay. Lily's okay. I'm okay" the last part made you laugh and you brushed the tears away.
"But we need to make sure Viktor's okay, and that means not telling him just yet because we app know what will happen. I'll just keep taking a million photos and videos so he has stuff to watch. Here, hold her" Jenny passed you Olivia and grabbed her phone to take pictures.
"Do I look a mess?" you asked, aware that not only had you given birth 6 hours ago but you had also cried one too many times. "Actually, you look so good. Which makes me slightly hate you" she placed her phone down and then made grabbing hands at Olivia. "My ovaries hurt when I don't hold her" she blushed.
***
You where now sat in the hotel suite that had been reserved for Viktor. Lily was laying on the floor - half on top of the fluffy rug, half off - drawing more pictures for Viktor. You were sure she was on over 100 at this point, but it kept her occupied, you enjoyed listening to her stories behind them and writing them on the back of the picture for Viktor to read later.
She was currently drawing the picture of him winning his current fight - the one that was meant to start in 45 minutes.
You were sat on the overly large sofa breastfeeding Olivia, after having to shout at Buddy Marcella and the entourage he brought for you to leave. He'd brought a nanny with him - just in case you wanted to leave Lily and Olivia to go watch the fight. He was driving you crazy more than usual.
You didn't need help, you just needed space and for not a single soul to mention to Viktor that he had an earlier than expected baby girl he'd never seen. You'd also spoken to Ivan at length who had been extra hard and stubborn on your behalf making sure everything and everyone would be perfect.
***
Just as the fight started Olivia woke up with a cry. You half didn't mind as she'd been asleep for a long time, as if she was waiting for the perfect moment to announce her presence in the world. She was very quiet for a newborn.
You noticed that Viktor seemed to be fighting differently, quicker, even harder, like he just wanted it to be over.
But that wasn't surprising. When Viktor had agreed to the fight, there were a few additional requirements that Buddy had added in. Endorsements and a whole bunch of extra PR stuff, including promo stuff with Adonis Creed.
"Hey!" you called to Buddy. He turned around with that stupid grin on his face. "Just remembered my husband's a person and not just your cash cow" he'd then proceeded to try and butter you up but it didn't work.
***
As the ring filled with people from either team and the official referee to call the match you spotted Buddy climbing into the ring. You held your breath as you watched him whisper something to Viktor. Ivan appeared and pushed Buddy away, but you could see Viktor was getting impatient and just wanted the result said. You watched Ivan place his hands on Viktor's shoulders and he calmed down a little. The referee appeared and the camera angle zoomed back showing Viktor and his opponent standing either side of the referee.
You didn't let your breathe go until the referee held up Viktor's arms and the crowd cheered. Lily jumped up dancing around with her picture in her hand. "Told you daddy won" she wiggled her hips side to side and threw the picture in the air along with her crayons.
***
Now you felt sick. Sheer panic and you tried to organise your thoughts and your words to explain to Viktor that you were sorry for not telling him that Olivia had come early, that you cried after every phone call with him because you wanted to just tell him. But you were glad that you didn't, that there were no distractions.
"Lily, come here please" you call, her silence not always a good thing. She skips from the bedroom, her face covered in melted chocolate. Then she stop rigid, eyes wide. "Daddy!“ she screams, sprinting past you. You turn, this isn't how you wanted him to find out. "Grandpa!“ Lily screeches, almost another octave higher. She doges Viktor and throws herself at Ivan.
Viktor doesn't seem to mind that Lily skipped him. He's staring at you or Olivia, or both of you as you rock Olivia in your arms. She's quiet now, as if nothing happened. He drops his bag and slowly walks closer to you. When he reaches you, he pulls you against him, his lips rest on forehead which makes you cry.
"I'm sorry I wasn't there, I'm sorry you had to do this on your own" Viktor tenderly hugs you, careful not to squash Olivia.
You pull away to wipe your face with one hand, surprised at how relaxed Viktor is. "My dad told me. I made him when I saw he had a lot of calls from Jenny, I thought something was wrong" you looked to Ivan, but he was busy cleaning the chocolate from Lily's face.
***
Everything was calmer. Everything was fine. Viktor sat holding Olivia, with Lily on his lap. They talk in hushed tones over a sleeping Olivia. Both falling quiet every so often to stare at the peaceful baby.
Viktor was stunned by how beautiful his second baby girl was. Her tiny nose, her tiny mouth, her ten tiny fingers and ten tiny toes. Lily's mind was slightly blown by Viktor telling her she was once this small, even he was too.
Together they couldn’t stop looking at Olivia. Every now and then Lily gently kissed her sister - telling Viktor all the things she planned to teach her little sister - coloring within the lines, eating jellies that Aunt Jenny brings etc, eating all the chocolate you could find in a hotel suite.
By the time Ivan got back with food for everyone, it was his turn to fuss over his new grandchild. "World's happiest grandfather" Ivan announced taking Olivia from Viktor. He sat down on the couch with Olivia while you pulled out your phone to show Viktor the million photos you'd taken while he was away.

7: Tête Dure Minous
Tumblr media
Pairing: Remi Denier x OFC
Summary:  Lorel Maddox just wants to live as a human, run her bakery in peace, and forget. Unfortunately, the alpha of the local leopard pack has very different ideas.
Remi Denier doesn’t know what to make of the female Changeling who wants nothing to do with him or the RainFire pack. He does know that he has a driving need to protect her. Even if it’s from herself.
While they’re embroiled in a battle of wills, there’s a war brewing on the horizon. The outside threat could not only destroy everything they hold dear, but tear apart the fragile new bonds of the Trinity Accord, plunging the world into bloodshed to rival the Territorial Wars of centuries past.
Word count: 2018
Content warning: Racist cop
Hearth Fires Masterlist
Beta read by the wonderful pandabearer
Lorel bared her teeth at him when a wave of power washed into the shop; it tasted wild, male, and lethal.  She tore her attention away from the cop in time to see Remi stalking through the open door. Her cat went from snarling and ready to pounce to wary watchfulness in the presence of a bigger predator.  She hated that some of her anxiety eased the moment she caught his scent, but at least her cat’s homicidal urges went from screaming to a dull roar.
And damned if she wasn’t relieved to see Denier, like he was some sort of knight in shining armour.  Or, rather, a knight in jeans and a t-shirt. Said jeans hung low on his hips, emphasizing his narrow waist in contrast to the breadth of his chest.  The black t-shirt clung to the ridges and hollows of his densely muscled chest and wide shoulders.
“Mr. Denier, she here one of your’n?”  Shank turned square to him and jerked his head in Lorelei’s direction.
“All changelings in Swain County are mine.”
She opened her mouth to protest the hard, possessive statement, but Remi cut her off with a look, the cat rising in his eyes.  Although they never changed colour, her own cat recognized his and urged her to back down. The animal usually urged the opposite; the sudden shift in temperament had her scrabbling to regain her equilibrium after she’d prepared to fight for control.
Even though the sheriff was human, some latent instincts must have sensed something because he dropped his folded arms to hook his thumbs behind his belt.  Remi’s gaze didn’t stray from Shaw’s, but she had no doubt that he was keeping careful track of the cop’s hands in relation to his weapons.
“Ya need to get your girl in line.  Had a call she was intimidatin’ folk.”  Shank levelled him with a hard look below thick, dark brows.
The thought that either of them believed she was under his protection soothed something within that she hadn’t even known had been stretched taut.  The relief was like setting down a burden she’d been carrying for so long she only recognized the strain once it was gone. And that set her teeth on edge.
“The CCTV footage doesn’t corroborate the allegation.”  There was a drawl to his voice, but it lacked the thickness of the bayou it’d had when they first met.
“Yer a big guy, what a young girl’d find intimidatin’ you’d hardly sneeze at,” he shrugged.
“Are charges being pressed?”  Remi merely tilted his head and, somehow, she knew that his leopard was close to the surface even though his eyes continued to remain completely human.
Some long-buried instinct in Shaw must have recognized it, too, because the hand closest to his stunner twitched.  Claws burst from Lorel’s fingertips. For once, she didn’t try to force them back in. Remi, however, kept his hands in his pockets.  Only a fool would miss the lethal threat hidden beneath the lazy demeanour. How on earth he managed to hold the alpha’s stare, full of barely restrained savagery, she had no idea.
“Naw, I think we’ll let this’un go with a warnin’.”  Shaw shrugged and resettled his hat. “But you best show your girl how things are ‘round here.”
Shocked speechless by the blatant paternalism, she could only gape at him.
“Oh?  And just how are ‘things ‘round here’?”  Remi’s tone was deceptively calm, but whatever the other man saw on his face had drained the blood from his own.
“Well, that… you see…”  His Adam’s apple bobbed as he gulped.  “You can’t just go ‘round intimidating people you don’t like!”
“I think you should take your own advice, officer.”  The predator was present in his voice. “Cher, why don’t you make a copy of that video for Sheriff Shaw here?”  He never looked away from the cop so the silent snarl she threw his way went unnoticed.
“Testosterone’s getting thick in here anyway,” she muttered in a volume pitched for his ears alone.
Once Lorelei was out of the room, the red haze fogging his mind cleared a little and he could think clearly again.  Shaw, on the other hand, realized he was alone in a room with a leopard in human skin, which meant he was less likely to do something stupid to prove his masculinity in front of a third, feminine party.  Men could usually be counted on to pull supremely senseless stunts when it came to pretty women. Such as issuing premature ultimatums instead of merely taking the measure of a prospective packmate.
“Now look here…” the sheriff licked his lips.
“I assume the human will be charged with filing a false report?”  He leaned against the cash counter, bracing his hands against the edge, palms down.  The relaxed stance fooled Shaw into downgrading his threat level and puffed up accordingly, crowding the alpha’s space.  Remi barely avoided rolling his eyes. His leopard didn’t take it as a challenge, merely huffed and sat down to scratch behind an ear.
“We have to dispatch a car ‘cause if something happens, we could be held liable if we don’t.  We don’t want people to avoid callin’ if they see something suspicious.” Remi wondered if the sheriff realized just how much of a stereotype of the rural hick cop he was, despite his law degree.  When he’d decided to found RainFire, he’d compiled dossiers on the local Enforcement brass and he knew that Shaw was well-educated. Was it a deliberate good ole’ boy ruse to put the humans at ease?
Lorelei returned with the data chip and his leopard snapped to attention, snarling a warning at the male in the room.  Neither half of him wanted the cop anywhere near the curvy redhead. Remi caught the eye of Sugiyama through the door, which was still propped open, and waved him over.  The lieutenant accepted the chip and promised it would be entered into the incident report, ignoring his superior who clearly smelled displeased. Scenting no lie from the officer, his leopard settled somewhat.
“Now I assume that Ms. Maddox is free to resume business unless ya’ll have any further questions.”  It wasn’t so much a question as it was a threat.
Though Shaw was pissed at the brusque dismissal, he strode out of the bakery.  Sugiyama lingered to thank Lorelei for her hospitality and cooperation. Remi crushed the urge to throw the officer bodily out of the shop.  He could probably hit Shaw like a bowling pin with the lieutenant as the ball.
“Thank you for your concern, Mr. Denier,” she said stiffly and smoothed her apron.  Today, it was patterned with autumn leaves and edged in yellow worn over a russet dress.  He wondered what he would find if he tugged on the satin tie and parted that modest Peter Pan collar to lick at the freckles that peppered her neck.  Were there more scattered across her creamy breasts? Did they trail across her soft stomach to…
“Mr. Denier, was there something I can help you with?”  By the sharp arch of her brow, she was repeating the question.  Unlike Shaw, she wasn’t afraid of being alone with him although she was at the other end of the hierarchy.  Even with all the training in the world, a submissive could never hope to win against an alpha leopard in a physical battle.  And yet still she defied him while maintaining all outward propriety that could never be mistaken for an actual challenge.
“There’s no need to be so formal, please, call me Remi.”  It was an obvious ploy to keep him at arm’s length. If she thought that would work, well, she had another thing coming.  He intended to solve the mystery of this woman who played at being human, needed to figure out why his cat wanted to hunt her in the most sensual way.
“Was there anything you require?”  Icy haughtiness that would have done those few who still clung to Silence proud.  Coaxing her out of her shell was going to be fun.
“A ‘thank you’ would be nice.”  A slow, feline smile curved his lips.
“For what?  Barging in here and claiming responsibility for me like I’m a child?”  That was interesting. Most submissives liked feeling safe and protected, that she found it upsetting was another facet to the puzzle of Lorelei Caine/Maddox.
“Keeping you from assaulting a law Enforcement officer.”  It had been obvious that she wanted to go for Shaw’s throat the second he walked in.
“Thank you, Mr. Denier, for sweeping in here uninvited and undermining my authority in my own business.  I am ever so grateful you patted me on the head and shooed me away while you menfolk postured at each other.”  Her tone was sweet enough to drizzle over one of her confections and the drama was so over the top it would have done Scarlett O’Hara proud.  Any minute now he expected her to start soliloquizing about root vegetables. “Since you’re marking your territory and all, I think the sheriff peed on that tree over there in case you feel the need to over-mark.”
“Il y a pas de quoi.  Next time Shaw wants to cause a fuss, he’ll have to notify RainFire.”  She blinked, considering the ramifications of having a pack of predatory changelings on her side when it came to dealing with the bigoted sheriff.  “One of the benefits of pack is protection.” It was not just a case of safety in numbers. Dominants lived to defend their pack, the need to protect ingrained into the core of who they were.
“It was one person.  Besides, you can’t be there 24/7,” she said dismissively.
The cat didn’t like the insinuation that he couldn’t protect this stubborn woman who regarded him with eyes of cool slate ringed with Prussian blue.
“No one messes with RainFire.”  Any and all challenges were met with swift and brutal force.  Yet the challenge of Lorelei was one that couldn’t be resolved with violence.  Not as the initial offensive, anyway.
“You make it sound like you’re running a protection racket.  Should I pay protection money in cookies? Are you going to shake down the grocery store for milk, too?”  Cocking a hip, she braced a fist on it and gestured in the direction of the grocer with her other hand.
“What if next time it’s someone with a gun?”  The blood drained away from her face and he bristled at the spike of doubt in her luscious sugar and spice scent.  At their first meeting, he’d thought that the smell was from her array of goods; now he knew that it was part of her.  When he’d walked in, the sweetness had been tainted with a hint of something foul that nearly left an aftertaste. That note quickly faded while he dealt with Shaw and he wasn’t yet certain whence it came.
“Then it’s a good thing I keep a hot pot of tea going.”  She glanced at the faintly steaming kettle within arm’s reach.  As a makeshift defensive strategy, he had to admit it wasn’t half bad.  A faceful of scalding liquid would give even him pause.
“A clever answer,” he mused.  “Do you have one for me?”
A faint vertical line formed on her brow.  Normally she took care to avoid meeting his gaze in case his leopard took it as a provocation, she did so now with remote appraisal.
“Are you going to kill me if I decline your offer?”
“Only if it’s necessary.  Why? Do you plan on hurting my people, t-minou?  You’ll find we’re not easy prey.” He knew his eyes flashed cat bright as he stalked closer to her.  Wide-eyed, she mirrored his movements until she bumped up against the counter. Bones pushed up against her skin from the grip she had on the white ashwood.  The pulse of her heart was a fluttering butterfly under the thin skin of her throat, the sound of it like the hoofbeats of a racehorse.
“If you’re calling my bluff, cher, this is a game you won’t win.”

the artist | chapter thirty-two
“I come along but I don't know where you're taking me I shouldn't go but you're wrenching, dragging, shaking me Turn off the sun pull the stars from the sky The more I give to you the more I die.” -”the perfect drug”, nine inch nails
I had no idea what to say to my parents, especially given the fact I was all kinds of drugged up and I couldn't even so much as sit up. It also didn't help to realize that I had no idea as to what day it was. But Chris insisted that Joey, Lars, and I go back to the speakeasy, and I had been cleared to return home. I had no idea how to explain the three of them to them, either. For all I knew it was game over for me. I had to fess up. I had to explain everything to them. I had to remove my mask and show them the tip of my nose and my mouth so I could breathe.
Chris lay me down in the backseat, to which he lay my head in his lap all the way there. Lars was kind enough to drive even though he wasn't really the best driver in the world: at one point, I could hear Joey breathing hard and letting out a low whistle every so often. I didn't mind given the amounts of morphine I had been given during my stay at the hospital, but I was concerned about him more than anything.
“You alright, Joe?” Chris asked him, to which he responded by rolling down the window.
“We're almost there, though,” Lars assured him as we took that exit off towards the speakeasy. I saw Joey run his fingers through his black curls and lean the seat back to ease his stomach.
“Would you like some tea, Joey?” Lars offered him as he pulled the parking brake and killed the engine.
“Please. I gotta walk around, too.”
“I'll come along, too,” Chris volunteered. “I have to pee real bad—” He looked down at me. “You gonna be alright here?”
“Yeah, I think so—my mom and dad are here, too, anyways.”
He slid out from underneath me and the three of them climbed out in unison. Once I lay there in the back seat in silence, I closed my eyes. I couldn't even so much as sit up and open the door, and yet I had my hope that the car could be seen from there, wherever Lars had parked us at. Indeed, I heard a tap on the window over my head.
I peered up to see my mom standing there. I almost burst into tears at the sight of her and she opened the door so she could talk to me.
“Oh, my poor little girl,” she cooed as she pressed her hands to either side of my face. “Your friend Chris told us what happened. I'm glad you were wearing a helmet!”
“Yeah, I'll say—where's Dad?”
“He went down the block for a mask—his other one finally wore a hole on the inside. But I told him I would stay here once you showed up.”
I had no idea how to confess it to her, especially given the fact I was on my back and with nowhere to go. I figured it was best to just ease her into it, rather than drop it right on her head.
“I feel awful, Mom,” I started.
“Oh, don't. It's not your fault, honey, and it's not that other boy's fault, either—accidents happen. Like I siad, I'm glad you kids were wearing helmets.”
“No, I mean—I feel awful that being an artist has got me to this point. Hanging out with a bunch of boys like this...”
“Well, Holly—maybe you should consider this a good thing,” she said.
“I—wait, what?”
“You know the story of Frida Kahlo, right?”
“Yeah, she—she sustained horrible injuries in a trolley accident when she was like—eighteen, like my age. She had to undergo a bunch of surgeries and she was in pain most of her life.”
“See this as a means that you are meant to be an artist. The abuse on your body is meant to be put to good use, much like the abuse Frida felt herself. You're an only child so it's not like one of these boys are going to be like Diego Rivera...” Her voice trailed off. I was speechless and I found myself wanting to keep quiet about it all at that point. Of course! I could still make art, but I would have to rethink things. I would have to rethink the Artist move, too, given I couldn't hardly squat so much as I could stand or sit up.
“But one thing is for sure and that's we're taking you home. But these boys are more than welcome to come by and visit, though.”
“You serious?” I was stunned by what I was hearing.
“Totally serious. Like I said, Holly—accidents happen. And these boys were kind enough to take you to the hospital and help you. They like you—you're their friend...” She turned her head and I recognized Joey walking towards her with a cup of something in hand.
“Are you Chris?” she asked him, and he stood that six foot distance from us.
“Nah, I'm Joey,” he corrected her before he took a sip. “I was the dude drivin'.”
“I was just telling Holly that accidents happen.”
“Uh—yeah. They do. They definitely do.” Even though he was upside down to me, I could make out the surprised look on his face.
“I also want to thank you for being such a sweet heart,” she continued.
“Um—thank you?” He showed her a grin, and the little gap in his teeth looked even more adorable upside down. “I mean, I—I did call the medics, after all.”
“You and Chris are more than welcome to come on over any time you want, by the way,” she added.
“Aw, yer too kind.”
“Where you from, by the way? I like your accent.”
“Upstate New York, like Syracuse area, near Lake Ontario. I'm a hick who's a long way from home.”
“Oh, I love upstate! I haven't been there in forever it seems. And you're not that much of a hick.”
“Oh, no, Miss Sherman—I assure ya that I am without question the biggest hick you've ever seen.”
“I've seen worse, Joey. You're—what Holly's father calls 'humble.' Have you been to Schenectady?”
“Not lately, nah.”
“Oh, well—her father was going to go there for a job right before the pandemic, like the day before all the lockdowns, and then it fell through. He's still on call, though, so maybe—just maybe—when things lift, he can transfer that way.” News to me, but then again, I did recall my dad receiving a phone call on that last night, but I didn't hear much of it because of all the news of lockdown surrounding us and the fact my life as a teen was going to consist of being alone most of the time and I would turn to art and the music I loved for the rest of my life as far as I knew. My mom raised herself to her feet and adjusted her blouse.
“Got your mask?” she asked him.
“Right in my pocket. Why, ya wanna help me help her?”
“Like I said—you are a sweet heart.”
She rounded the back end of the car, to which he joined me there at the doorway. His standing there above my head allowed me to look right at his crotch and his thighs. He looked down at me like a prince.
“How ya doin',” he asked me in a low voice.
“Liking what I see,” I said to him.
“Not even a bit'a drugs can keep that mind of yers outta the gutter,” he teased me before he took a sip. I had a nice view of that nice slender neck of his, too.
“Holly's parents in Schenectady,” he remarked in a low voice. “Do ya remember anythin' 'bout that?”
“Vaguely. Then again, like what Mom said, it happened right before the lockdowns went down. It's tempting, isn't it?”
And he winked at me.
“Come out there an' live not too far from me—that's pretty far from home, though. Speakin' as a guy who's far from home himself.”
“Yeah, it is.”
“An' with—with—” He gestured at my laying on my back. “—this right here, it'd be a li'l hard to say as to if or when it'll even happen.”
“True.”
“But—” He peered up at the other side of the car, where my mom had walked to. I lifted my head to find she wasn't there, or maybe she was, but she had ducked down or something. Joey bowed his head closer to me. “—know that no matter what happens,” he lowered his voice to a near whisper, “I'll always like you.”
I glanced up at him.
“Y-You will?” I stammered.
“Yeah.” Even upside down, I could make out the soft look on his face. He swallowed and looked off to the side: stray tendrils of black curls dangled down from his head and towards my face. “I got a crush on you, Hahlls. I dunno if it'll advance beyond that 'cause of Chris an' Lars an' whatnot... but that's how I feel about you. And I gotta fess it up to you 'cause of the accident an' the return of the pandemic and everything. I'm not makin' sense, sorry...”
“No, no,” I assured him, “you're making perfect sense.”
A soft blush crossed his aquiline nose and those little cheekbones.
“I gotta tell ya that I'm just absolutely captivated by your art. An', not ta mention—yer perfect in my eye. You're a saint to me, even when yer a sinner. You'll pull through. If you can survive some sick bastard attackin' you on the street an' without question the worst thing that's happened this century, you can survive this nonsense. An' I'll be here.”
I showed him a smile, to which he showed me that crooked one of his. I couldn't say anything because the other door swung open and my mom prepared to help me out of the backseat without putting strain on that awful injury. I could crab walk out of the back seat but I couldn't so much as crawl into the wheel chair Chris had brought along with us. If I leaned to the side and sat with my knees way out, it didn't hurt so much, but it still hurt. Chris and Lars weren't able to see us off, but Joey helped me into the back seat of my mom's car.
“You know where we live, right?” I asked him in a low voice.
He paused for a second with one hand on the mask underneath his chin and then his face lit up in junction with the afternoon sun.
“I do,” he told me, still in a near whisper.
“Tell Chris and Lars you know where to find me.” And he winked at me before he shut the door.
I was eager to paint for Joey again. And I was eager to paint for Chris and Lars again, even if it meant having my parents within a few feet of hearing us.
