"Is it legitimate?" Darrell asked, sitting down.

The bandits grumbled, showing their hands, covered in small burns from the contact. "Yeah, it's legit, Boss."

The head Lycan sat back, a pleased smile across his face. "Good. Then get to sellin'. The quicker we make our payday, the better. Don't want anybody to know we orchestrated this. Specifically not the girl."

The others stopped. "What'cha gonna do to her boss? Kidnap her and hold her ransom? Bet she's worth a lot with all the trinkets she had.."

Darrell picked up a stray stuffed animal in the shape of a dog, the tag on it read 'if lost please return to Claudia Grey'. "Nope. I got a better idea, you just leave little miss Claudia, to me." With a wicked smile on his lips.

World Dracula Day, Folk Horror, and Renn Faire After Party

World Dracula Day (bleh bleh)

May 26 is indeed World Dracula Day. For those of you not in the know, this is the publication date (May 26, 1897) of Bram Stoker's novel, Dracula. In the over 100 years since this character's introduction, the Count and vampires in general have been swooping around most of Western society's corporate psyche in one way or another. I'm not sure if Stoker had any idea that his story of supernatural betrayal, invasion, and ultimate heroics would catch on and still be popular after so long, but here we are in 2023 still talking about the character and still writing stories that link back to the world he created.

If you celebrate, as I do, please lift a glass...but not of wine because we do not drink...wine to Stoker and to Count Dracula!

Folk Horror and a Bit of Self-Promotion

Since we're on a bit of a horror bend today, I'm also going to talk a little about a specific niche of horror and do some promotion for a new anthology produced by Pavane Press and edited by Cliff Biggers and Charles Rutledge.

Some of you may be familiar with the above image. It's from the original Wicker Man (1973). If you haven't seen this movie, get thee to your Amazon Prime or Roku Channel and view it henceforth. Do not watch the abomination that is the Nicholas Cage version from 2006 unless you enjoy watching Nicholas Cage screaming in that weird way he does in his horror movies. The 1973 version is an excellent introduction to the folk horror genre, which is having a resurgence in the horror community both for written works and on film. Midsommar is another good example although, like a lot of folk horror films, has mixed reviews (I liked it. It disturbed the hell out of me, but I liked it.).

I enjoy folk horror because my own horror stories brush close to it. Elements of this sub-genre include a sense of isolation, communities with rituals, an outside element coming into the closed community, and an event of some sort. I feel like Southern Gothic horror is a kissing cousin to this sub-genre. I love exploring all of these things because I feel like we experience these things or are only one or two steps away from these elements here in the South, especially if we live on the edges of rural communities (and a lot of us still do).

If you are curious or if you already have a love for this sub-genre, let me recommend the brand new anthology, Lonely Hollows.

Cliff and Charles gathered 15 of some of the best horror authors in the business and asked that we write folk horror stories. Some of these names you may recognize, like James A. Moore, Jeff Strand, Leanna Renee Hieber, and Amanda DeWees. Others of us are newer voices, including me and Darrell Z. Grizzle. The cover art is by Lynne Hansen, whose cover art is well-known and loved in the horror community. My story, "Renewal," involves werewolves, a community cult, and one young man with a very large decision that needs making.

We had a fantastic two days at the Georgia Renaissance Festival last weekend despite the fact that it was overcast both days (that seemed to make it better). There were eight authors at three tables, and I think we all did pretty well. I sold nine books, which I consider a complete win. I also got to hang out with a bunch of folks who were just awesome, including Sarah Sover, Sarah Madsen, Milton Davis, Nancy Dunne, Jen Guberman, and Sherrilyn Kenyon (yes, THAT Sherrilyn Kenyon).

I'm hoping we do this again next year because as much as it was work (and it was), I had a blast. Patrons were really excited to see us (especially Sherrilyn) and a lot of them expressed that they wanted to see more books and authors on site.

Pastor Mike Jr. was the top winner at the 2022 Stellar Gospel Music Awards, which were presented on Saturday (July 16) at Cobb Energy Performing Arts Centre in Atlanta.

The pastor, author and recording artist won six awards, including artist of the year and album of the year for I Got It: Single’s Ministry Vol. 1. Pastor Mike Jr. also won artist of the year last year. He’s the first artist to win in that top category two years running since Donald Lawrence in 2006-07.

The ceremony, which was co-hosted by Jekalyn Carr and Kierra Sheard, was taped live and will air on Sunday Aug. 7 at 8 p.m. ET/PT on BET, BET Her and BET International and will be syndicated in various local markets across the U.S. between Aug. 13 and Sept. 11.

Pastor Mike Jr. Is Top Winner at 2022 Stellar Gospel Music Awards (Full Winners List)

CeCe Winans won three awards — producer of the year, praise and worship album of the year, and praise and worship song of the year. The awards are for Winans’ first live album, Believe for It, which logged seven weeks at No. 1 on Billboard’s Top Gospel Albums chart.

Jonathan McReynolds & Mali Music received three awards for their collaboration, Jonny x Mali: Live in L.A. EP. Ricky Dillard also won three Stellar Awards, in addition to receiving the James Cleveland Lifetime Achievement Award in recognition of his contributions to gospel music.

Tamela Mann received two awards. E. Dewey Smith was named best new artist for his 2021 album God Period.

Two awards were not presented this year – traditional duo/chorus group of the year and contemporary choir of the year.

The show featured performances by Kirk Franklin, Erica Campbell, Maverick City Music, Marvin Sapp, Tye Tribbett, Le’Andria Johnson, Koryn Hawthorne, Brian Courtney Wilson, Jor’Dan Armstrong, Doe, Rudy Currence, Chrisette Michele, Darrel Walls, James Fortune and more.

Today we remember the death of "Dimebag" Darrell Abbott who was Assassinated: December 8, 2004 in Columbus, Ohio

Darrell Lance Abbott best known by his stage name Dimebag Darrell, was an American musician and songwriter. He was the guitarist of the heavy metal bands Pantera and Damageplan, both of which he co-founded alongside his brother Vinnie Paul.

A son of country music producer Jerry Abbott, Abbott began playing guitar at age 12, and Pantera released its debut album, Metal Magic (1983), when he was 16. Originally a glam metal musician, Abbott went by the stage name Diamond Darrell at the time. Two further albums in the glam metal style followed in 1984 and 1985, before original vocalist Terry Glaze was replaced by Phil Anselmo in 1986 and Power Metal (1988) was released. The band's major-label debut, Cowboys from Hell (1990), introduced a groove metal sound to which Abbott's guitar playing was central. This sound was refined on Vulgar Display of Power (1992), and the group's third major-label record, Far Beyond Driven, debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 in 1994.

Tensions within Pantera reduced its output after the release of The Great Southern Trendkill in 1996. Reinventing the Steel (2000) was the band's final studio album before its acrimonious separation in 2003. Abbott subsequently formed Damageplan with his brother Vinnie Paul and released New Found Power, the band's debut and only album, in 2004. Other works by Abbott included a collaboration with David Allan Coe titled Rebel Meets Rebel (2006) and numerous guest guitar solos for bands such as Anthrax. On December 8, 2004, Abbott was shot and killed by a deranged fan while on stage with Damageplan at the Alrosa Villa nightclub in Columbus, Ohio. Three others were murdered in the shooting before the perpetrator was killed by a police officer.

Abbott was ranked at No. 92 on Rolling Stone's list of "The 100 Greatest Guitarists of All Time" in 2011, and No. 19 on Louder's list of "The 50 Greatest Guitarists of All Time" in 2018. He placed at No. 5 on Gibson's list of "The Top 10 Metal Guitarists of All Time" in 2015, and the same year was ranked as the most influential metal guitarist of the past 25 years by VH1.

• he was always stealing and dealing to get his twin brother anything to help his body dismorphia and feel more comfortable in his body

Those two garbage fascists were joined in objections to Arizona and/or Pennsylvania by Tommy Tuberville, Roger Marshall, John Kennedy, Rick Scott, brand new Wyoming Senator Cynthia Lummis, and Cindy Hyde-Smith. Let the record show that these people went ahead and kept up their objections even after the US Capitol building was attacked by domestic terrorists they and their shithole Dear Leader had incited. In the Senate, it was only those assholes. In the House, though? Holy shit. They objected to Arizona and somehow even more of them voted to sustain the objection to Pennsylvania in the wee hours of Wednesday morning, as if yesterday's terrorism put a spring in their step, as if the blood in the hallways of the Capitol gave them sustenance. Again, all of this was after the terrorist attack. And in the House it wasn't just Arizona and Pennsylvania either. Reps like Louie Gohmert stood up to object to other states too, even though the GOP senators who had originally planned to support those challenges had put down their guns and agreed to end the standoff peacefully. (It was particularly pleasing to watch Vice President Mike Pence glare at Gohmert, who just got finished unsuccessfully suing Pence to make him overturn the election, and tell him his objection to the electors in Wisconsin "MAY NOT BE ENTERTAINED," since he couldn't get even the Senate's dumbest Republican Ron Johnson to sign his treason permission slip anymore.) Overall, 139 House GOP members voted to object to the electors from Arizona and/or Pennsylvania. These are their names. Hey, remember my pet cracktheory that Darrell is a clone of Laserblast, or is somehow connected to him in some way?  I finally cleaned up and sorted out my full list of weird things I’ve noticed that they both have in common, or that otherwise support that, or are just weird about this stupid robot in general.  Because I wasn’t fucking joking about there being a lot of it.  Probably not gonna actually amount to anything, especially with not much series left, but meh.  It’s fun.  Enjoy.

Appearance/Body:

(Okay, I admit most of this section was pretty much killed by Darrell's canon human form in OK AU, which looked NOTHING like Laser at all.  But just in case...)

-Identical body shape/proportions to LB/SF, with wider torso/hips and very thin waist -- maybe a little smaller because he's a teen (and a robot)

-Very close head shape to LB/SF/PV:  square jaw (when it’s not exaggerated to make him cuter), similar rectangular shape and proportions if you include the braincase (since it would normally be inside his skull)

-LB's mask looks a LOT like Darrell's head, with the entire top half and most of the sides of his head covered and with circular ear...things

-That mask also tends to be quite expressive, almost functioning as a single eye sometimes

-Their big heavy boots are also kinda similar (Though honestly Darrell's boots look slightly more like Chip Damage's...)

-LB is based off of the superhero Cyclops, and Darrell is literally a cyclops

-Only robot that really seems to have an organic, human brain, and has human feet too along with Shannon -- even for just the feet, someone's DNA has to be cloned to make him, and not necessarily Boxman's.

-Darrell can grow stubble, according to that one tiny joke shot in Let's Watch the Boxmore Show; his face may be organic just like his brain and feet.  Also worth noting, the specific spots on the side of the jaw where LB's/SF's stubble shows are covered by metal for Darrell -- when comparing Darrell and LB, each character's most distinctive visible features (one eye and brain, cheek stubble) are covered up on the other!

Costumes:

-Darrell seems to enjoy dressing up as a HERO -- when he's in cowboy mode he plays a sheriff, and when the bots play Golden Statues he always plays the museum guard, both specifically hero roles!

-In fact, the costumes in general -- he definitely likes pretending he's someone else, rather than just being fashionable like his siblings.

-LB and SF both hide their eyes, and may have something unusual/distinctive about them, especially with Laser because of his eye-based powers.  LB!SF in particular would hide his if there was something that might immediately get him recognized as his former identity.  Perhaps only having one eye (hence the visor acting as one on occasion like I pointed out)?  (We got to see behind LB's mask once in Gar's fear sequence in Face Your Fears, with one red eye showing where the mask was broken, but there it did look like he had two.  However, Gar would never have seen what was ACTUALLY under there...)

Habits/Personality:

-LB was an anti-hero, willing to do some fucked-up things in the name of good, while Darrell is an anti-villain, who focuses more on just doing his job, having fun, and trying to make his father happy than crushing the heroes out of malice

-Darrell's also just a terrible villain in general.  Of course, he's directly killed another villain (or tried to anyway), and his idea of doing the most evilest thing was reporting Boxman's lies to the board and stopping him, AKA doing the RIGHT thing -- even with the betrayal, not very villainous of him, huh?

-Weird shared oral fixation?  There's a very unusual emphasis on food/mouth things with Darrell (his lowkey obsession with eating, spitting Boxman into the spitoon in his office, brushing his teeth), and LB's trademark was always having that lollipop in his mouth.

-Hugging soft cute animals, like Rippy and Fink

-Darrell writes in concrete in You're Level 100, and LB does the same using his eye laser in Glory Days (in the POINT theme song)

-Neither one is a big fan of new members of their respective teams right away.  LB refused to take junior members with him in both Glory Days and Let's Take a Moment, and doesn't seem to think much of them in either episode at all, aside from Silver Spark (and then, he still left her behind as one of his lookouts).  Darrell...just freaking HATES new siblings at first, having a problem with every single one he gets, at least the ones we've seen (we didn't get to see his and Mikayla's introduction).  He's also like this to siblings he considers inferior to him, to a point -- he and Shannon both got pretty jealous when Boxman started praising Jethro's "new moves."

Boxman stuff:

-Timing is correct, Darrell and the others were created right after LB disappeared according to Lad and Logic, since Boxman only drew the first three members in his original plans to attack POINT, and Gar was already building the plaza by the time Boxmore was opened.  This means the Boxbot quadruplets and KO were actually born around the same time, making them all 6-11 years old, roughly the same amount of time that's passed since the Sandwich Incident.

-Boxy was obsessed with POINT at that time (and still is, since he's kept the coordinates for POINT HQ memorized), and possibly LB himself (given his later attraction to PV)

-Boxman may also have some POINT tech and connections of his own?  First off, access to a huge supply of glorbs, the easiest and closest source of which Foxtail and Carol have been protecting and heavily monitoring, and are normally very hard for non-heroes to get their hands on.  Second, those boxes he sends the robots to attack in might use the same wormhole tech as POINT Prep's bus, since it looks a little similar both in transit and emerging at its destination, plus its driver sounds exactly like Ernesto.  And speaking of Ernesto, that one time he straight-up drew a POINT drone as part of a family portrait…

POINT stuff:

-There were six members of POINT before the Sandwich Incident, and LB was one of the original three, and seemed to function as co-leader alongside Foxtail.  There are six Boxbots, and Darrell was one of the original four, and kinda leads them in battle alongside Shannon, especially once he becomes CEO.

-And coincidentally, the original six members of POINT also share colors and in some cases roles with the Boxbots -- Shannon and Foxtail are orange, Greyman and Ernesto are purple, El-Bow and Jethro are blue, Rippy and Raymond are green, Silver Spark is...difficult but her hair is pretty distinctive and works with Mikayla for yellow, and of course, Darrell and Laser are red.  The robots' colors and relative ages even match POINT'S senior/junior members, with Greyman, Laser, and Foxtail representing three of the older Boxbots, and then Rippy, Silver Spark, and El-Bow representing the two newer ones and Jethro, who only recently was able to show his true personality/potential.

-"Junior Members" = "Junior Deputies"

-"Code Vermillion."  I made an entire post on this a while back, but to summarize, Vermillion is a bright, slightly orange-y red, and in most episodes is Darrell's exact color.  And Vermillion, as a red pigment, tends to darken over time into purple and black -- and SF and PV have connections to both glorbs (which Code Vermillion refers to), and to LB as well.

-Darrell has a bunch of weird similarities to Chip Damage as well, who is basically Laser's replacement at POINT, minus being the Charisma discipline rep:  Robots made right after LB got iced, green powers, special limited-edition costumes/POW cards, similar dark gray boots, the remote controls (Wisdom class blackboard for Darrell, Final Exams for Chip), possibly both made with actual brain tissue (The flashback to Chip's creation had a brain on one of Greyman's screens), etc.  Also, a dumb one, but...remember those Double-Dipped (KO and TKO?) Laser Chips (self-explanatory), that are "probably just a limited-edition" (Darrell).

Other assorted weird things:

-Darrell’s laser eye attachment shown in Stop Attacking the Plaza -- still being worked on in the episode (and it looks like it has been for a while, since it had been some time since Boxman was in that specific lab...), but used by a Big Darrell in the opening, where it produces a very similar (green) copy of LB's beam.

-Darrell is right-handed, in a left-handed family -- he's shown eating with his right hand in Stop Attacking the Plaza while everyone else is using their left, looks like he’s wielding a lightsaber right-handed in Plaza Film Festival, and draws with his right hand in Villains Night In.  Left-handedness is often associated with villains in fiction, so he may not be a full one?  (Definitely not as sinister as the rest of them, hehe.)  Though, some instances of Darrell using his left hand too, and other bots using their right, so I dunno how strong this particular point is.

-Line to keep an eye on:  "Just reboot yourself into a new body!  I do it all the time for funsies!" from Rad Likes Robots.  Related, Darrell reboots by exploding himself, which is how LB may have "died" and took on a new identity (if he's SF)

-Weird shit from Let's Not Be Skeletons:  Potato demonstrates a skeleton remote wearing a cowboy hat, and in addition to turning people into skeletons they remove powers, just like that red orb, and they also left Rad's and Enid's boots intact for some reason.  Darrell's also one of the biggest customers of the remotes, using his foes' weapons against them ("What do you say we snag more of them before they fall into the wrong hands?  We could even use them against our foes!")

-When we first saw TKO's power manifest in You're Level 100, it was while KO was trying to defeat a giant superpowered Darrell.  When we first saw TKO in physical form in Face Your Fears (as KO's "evil burp"), he was sent out to defeat a giant superpowered Laserblast head.  When we next saw TKO in, well, TKO (as his true self for the first time), he defeated another giant superpowered Darrell!

-Really dumb one, the letter right before C and D is B, so the acronyms LB and LCD may be a thing?

Turbo/SF/TKO connections, just in case those turn out to be related to Laser as well:

(Under the cut, since this is long enough already!)

-SF hints that negative emotions, particularly anger, fuel Turbo powers.  Darrell has quite a few jealousy and anger issues in general -- "Gets flustered by petty insults," HATES new younger siblings (or existing siblings showing him up and getting more of dad’s attention), etc -- and seems to be way more capable of mayhem than usual when running on these emotions.  They even gave him the power to defy his programming and (attempt to) kill Boxman!

-He can also have his power boosted by a ton in a very short amount of time, from level -4 up (down?) to level -100 and able to destroy the plaza in one shot, and for as brief as that level -100 thing was he STILL has yet to be topped as the most powerful villain in the entire series!  But, Boxman doesn't do it often -- even regular Big Darrells are implied to NOT be that powerful normally.  Perhaps he's holding Darrell back for a reason?

-A lot of emphasis on his brain, similar to TKO: the visible brain is obvious, he has the most noticeable hivemind, and he pilots Big Darrells from inside their braincases similar to how KO and TKO controlled Big KO (even the name's similar!) in TKO's House

-Also, he doesn't have to glitch or change colors with his mood like Shannon does, he can make decisions and go against his programming all on his own -- perhaps he runs mostly on that meat brain?  Or maybe his brain is actually a mass of pink glorbs like Jethro got in I Am Jethro that unlocked his intelligence and potential?  

-SF's speech to KO in TKO: "Everyone holds you back because they're afraid of your raw, natural ability.  They want you small and nice, blissfully unaware of your true potential."  Darrell in Lord Cowboy Darrell:  "Nobody's gonna hold me back."  Shannon to Darrell in Plaza Film Festival:  "Where do you think you got all that natural talent?"

-TKO ultimately came out of wanting recognition from his boss.  LCD ultimately came out of wanting recognition from his boss.

-That VERY noticeable purple glow in the "I'm the Daddy now!" scene in Lord Cowboy Darrell.  Like, to the point it seemed specially painted for emphasis, rather than the normal animation.  

-Also, Junior is pretty heavy evidence that Turbo powers do not necessarily = purple, as Junior's powers were all green (and so were Chip's Turbo-ish powerups!)  Darrell also has green powers (that even carried over to his human alternate in OK AU, despite Shannon and Raymond getting Enid’s and Rad’s exact same powers and colors), and is sometimes surrounded by Turbo-esque greenish lightning when he's angry, the best example being at the beginning of Legends of Mr Gar after being trash talked (remember that he can't take petty insults; he was PISSED there!)

-(If it looks like I’m insinuating Darrell’s secretly got more power under the hood than even he realizes, I absolutely am.)

-Darrell still has his dark hooded cloak from the pilot, which looks a little like SF's.

-Darrell's the only one who wasn't invited to Junior's funeral, and doesn't give half a shit, instead using it as an opportunity to betray people and take on a new identity.  Possibly like LB faking his own death, therefore not attending his own funeral, and taking on a new identity as SF?

-Sneaking through the vents = sneaking through the pipes (SF, maybe how LB survived given that pipe in Let's Take a Moment)?

-Weird broken halo imagery shared between both Darrell and SF in TKO.  (Not my observation actually, pointed out by @david-yells-about-cartoons )  Darrell's cloud halo thing in that episode also looks almost exactly like the clouds swirling above KO as he shoots a power fist for the first time at the end of Let's Be Friends…

Darrell Martin meets  Hieronymus Michelle London (RP/Short Story)

At a small diner, Darrell is chilling as he waits for his order. He suddenly froze and stared, thinking his eyes were playing tricks on him.

A boy about Cardis’s age came in, but he was completely covered in spiders & silk. The other customers backed up as the spider-covered kid walked through.

The boy sits right next to Darrell and he could see that what he was experiencing was 100% real. The boy looked at him with a smile then started a conversation.

H: Hello, Sir!

Darrell: H-Hi…

H: The name’s Hieronymus, but you can call me “H”~

Darrell just stared at the boy before asking him exactly what was on his mind.

Darrell: Pardon me for sounding rude, but… Why are you covered in spiders?

Hieronymus didn’t seem offended at all & replied with a smile.

H: I had a mutation when I was 6 and I developed an odd aroma that attracts arachnids. They basically live & breed on me. They’re such lovely company~

Darrell stared at Hieronymus, kinda weirded out.

Shaking it off, Darrell then began to introduce himself as Hieronymus listened to every word as his spiders crawled freely.

Monsters part 1

Summary: Patton is afraid of monsters. Are they really so bad?

Pairing: not really any? Platonic maybe seen as romantic ... Maybe

Sorry i didn't get this out for Halloween but here's part 1 🎃

Patton has always been afraid of monsters since he was a kid. The one in his closet and the one his grandmother use to tell him about particularly came to mind.

The monster in his closet was ok, he never really came out much anymore since Patton started putting crackers with crofters on a plate near the door at night before he went to bed. Though he suspected the monster came out when he wasn't home, he has had to hide the crofters several times after coming home to find an empty jar partially hidden in the fridge.

As for the other, he did what his grandmother had always told him to do. He would place a blood orange on his windowsill twice a week. He has never seen this monster. He wasn't sure that it wasn't his closet monster but the orange is always missing, usually after he had returned home after work.

Patton woke to the faint glow of sun light that filtered through the opaque teal curtains. He snuggled into his warm covers enjoying the soft fabric before stretching with a groan.

He glanced around the blurry room before his gaze settled on his closet door. It was slightly ajar, the closet monster came out last night. He reached for his glasses, thankfully it was after he went to sleep. A shiver ran up his spine at the thought of the long, sharp tongue and the glowing dark blue eyes. With his glasses he could see a lot clearer. The plate by the closet door was empty, just a few crumbs from the crackers remained and not even a speck of jelly. Patton threw back the covers and hopped out of bed. He slowly approached the closet and hesitated as he reached for the door. With a deep breath he pulled the door hard. He cracked an eye open that he hadn't realized he had closed.

Empty.

It always surprised him how he never found the monster in his closet during the day. One day he even had his cousin over to help him look for a present he misplaced and neither of them seen the monster while they were searching through the three bedroom home, and the many closets that it held.

Once he grabbed the clothes for the day, a violet polo shirt with the pet daycare logo and khaki pants, and got ready for the day before he made his way into the kitchen.

Toast sounded good. Patton grabbed the half empty bag of sliced bread and grabbed two slices and popped them into the toaster slots. Now all he needed was milk and crofters. He opened the cabinet door and grabbed his favorite mug, it was covered in puppies and kittens. He placed the mug down on the counter before he walked over to the refrigerator.

The cool air ghosted his face as he opened the heavy door. The milk was easy enough to spot the bright red on the big caught his eye immediately. However, the green lid of the blueberry crofters jar was far more elusive than it should've been. After nearly a full minute of searching Patton found the jar 2 shelves and on the opposite side of the refrigerator than it usually sat. With a pout on his face he pulled the jar out and placed it on the counter right as the toast popped up.

"Again?" He said in a raised voice in the hope that the closet monster could hear him. At least he, at least Patton thought the closet monster was a he, didn't polish off the once half empty jar like he had done before. Patton honestly was happy to share but would it really be too much to ask to leave a note if he wanted more crackers.

As he poured his milk and began to spread the jam on this toast he thought about it more. The closet monster coming close to him while he slept to place a note on his table, caused his heart the beat just a little faster. To calm down he looked around the kitchen. The crofters jar might be able to last another few days if the monster didn't come out for more than what Patton put out. His gaze settled on the fruit bowl. There were a couple of bananas and quite a few apples, maybe he should take some to work. Bonnie the store Macaw would love them and so would the rabbits at least that way they wouldn't go to waste. He paused as he took a sip of milk. There were no blood oranges in the bowl. He must have used the last one the night before.

"Well I guess I'm going to have to go to the store on my way home." Patton said to himself as he finished off the last of his toast and milk. He walked over to the sink, rinsed out his mug and placed it in the sink before he made his way towards the door where his messenger bag hung on a hook. Patton grabbed the durable rainbow fabric and slung it over his shoulder before he made his way back in to the kitchen. "Hmm, one for Bonnie and Mable, half for Darrel annnd one and a half for Jenna and Monty and Mopsy." He said as he decided which animals got apples before adding them to his bag. Once he was satisfied he hadn't forgotten anyone he went back towards the door.

Just short of the door was a moderate sized table. The table contained his keys and wallet. Before he grabbed those items he pulled open the drawer of the table. Inside was a small notepad, various writing utensils and other miscellaneous items. He pulled out the notepad and a pen and quickly jotted down a short list of what he needed to pick up at the store. After he tore the page off the pad he stored the pad and pen. Patton picked up his wallet and slid the key ring over one of his fingers. With both hands relatively free he tucked the list into his wallet, and the wallet into his bag, before he made his way out the door.

Patton took a deep breath as he took a step out of the door and turned to lock it. He loved fall, everything about it, from the cooler temperatures to the smell. He turned to lock the door when he hear a soft bark. "He bud, give me a second." He said without turning around.

A smile stretched across his face as he turned and squatted down. In front of him was a red Canadian Eskimo dog. He reached out and began to play with the rather large dog, which quickly dropped to the ground and showed his belly to be rubbed. Patton laughed and began to tickle the monster of a dog. They played for several minutes before Patton's phone began beeping at him. Patton's smile fell and the dog whined. "Sorry Roman, I have to get to work now." Patton said as he stood up. Roman quickly stood up as well and whined. "It's ok buddy, go home." Patton said as he rubbed Roman's ears and checked his collar. The name plate remained blank save for the name Roman elegantly engraved in the metal.

Patton wondered where the dog belonged, he knew he had a home because he looked to be a healthy weight, if not slightly over if he had to guess the dog weighed almost 100 pounds, and his coat was always immaculately brushed with no knots or mats. Roman let out another soft bark. "I know what you want." Patton said, a small lilt in his voice. With practiced ease he pulled out a slice of dehydrated sweet potato he made for Roman a few nights ago. "Potato!" Patton said in a silly voice as Roman quickly, but gently, took the treat. He laughed as he scratched under Roman's chin before he headed for the bus stop.

Work was, typical, nothing particularly interesting happened. Bonnie sang in approval of the apple slices and the rabbits left no trace within an hour of the apple slices being placed in their large enclosure. Once his shift was done for the day Patton caught the next bus towards the market. Luckily he was able to find about five decent sized blood oranges, however, they were out of blueberry crofters so he grabbed a jar of berry harvest crofters instead.

Unfortunately the bus wouldn't be back around for nearly 45 minutes. He checked his phone. He just had to go down Comet street at the end of the block and go through Sanders park and just walk a block down Russet boulevard. He could walk to his home in half the time it would take to wait for the bus and walk the 2 blocks from that stop to his house. With a shrug he decided to walk home.

Half way down to Comet street he couldn't shake the feeling he was being watched. He turned onto the semi-dark street. Little light came from the street lamps or the few houses to his right that had on any lights. A rustling noise caught his attention. The woods of Sanders park to his left held no light. His heart sped up. He stared into the inky darkness for a moment before a squirrel came out of the tree line. A nervous laugh escaped him before he continued on his way.

Next thing he knew he was pulled from the sidewalk and pushed up against the wall of a darkened house. The rough brick bit into his back as he opened his eyes. He had dropped his bag, a few oranges rolled acrossed the sidewalk and the grass. However, he couldn't see much as his glasses had fallen off somewhere between the sidewalk and the house.

"What's a pretty thing like you doing out so late?" The man asked him while he ran a dirty hand down Patton's face. Patton didn't answer as he struggled to get out of his grip.

Growling caught both their attentions. The man froze, his grip still tight on Patton. A large dog barreled out of the woods and black bat dive bombed the man. The man released Patton and stumbled back as he attempted to swat at the bat. Soon he was tackled to the ground by the large dog.

The bat, reappeared in front of Patton who immediately threw his arms up. When the bat didn't attack him, Patton peeked between his arms. The bat just hovered there. It took him a moment but Patton soon realized the bat had his glasses in it's mouth. He hesitantly held out his arm with his fingers splayed out.

With seemingly practiced ease, the bat wrapped it's feet around Patton's fingers before it slowly maneuvered itself to hang from his hand. Dispite everything that was happening, Patton was most surprised about the bat, it must have only weighed a pound or two at the most. Slowly, Patton reached his other hand out to take the glasses from the bat before he expertly, stumbled, before he put them on one handed.

Patton looked over towards where the man and dog were. He recognized the large growling dog that had the man pinned to the ground. "Roman?"

Phantom Stallion Timeline #3

this one got long and i want to be sorry but...i’m not. [previous tl posts]

Book 3: Dark Sunshine

Synopsis: (This is one of my very favorite books y’all are in for a Ride). Sam steals rescues a buckskin mare, Dark Sunshine, from rustlers (which I guess are different from wranglers as I have literally learned just now; I tried to google this and only got results for jeans--under different search parameters, I learned that rustling is theft and wrangling is being hired to handle an animal so mostly Not Legal vs Actually Legal). Also, Brynna starts HARP at River Bend Ranch, so Micki, a runaway 11/12 year old (her age changes but Sam calls a her a kid a lot as if Sam isn’t….13), and Popcorn, an abused mustang, are introduced. Micki sets the barn and bunkhouse on fire (don’t smoke, Kids, you’ll destroy property and also your larynx; I know because I just took a test on this it’s very Gross); Dark Sunshine runs away with the Phantom in the chaos. In the end, Sam and Jake catch Flick, the rustler (not Wrangler), who had made an appearance in Book 1 being equally Awful, Sam keeps Dark Sunshine, and everything turns out Okay for Mikki (yay!) (Also Sam learns to be a little more empathetic to People also) (People meaning Mikki) (And not just Horses) (it’s character growth okay!!). And Dark Sunshine and the Phantom are having a baby! Very exciting.

Timeline: September  (“Sam could have slept in on this September Saturday--pg 1); it’s just a few weeks after Book 2, but “just a few weeks/months” is a PS trend I notice to summarize previous events that does not...necessarily make timeline sense (here it does since it’s still early in the series)

Ages: Sam--13 (pg 80). Jake is 3 years older than Sam (16) (his birthday is in book 4 though).

Mikki on page 55 is 12 and then on page 84 is 11; I’ll stick with 11 because I think that’s what Terri wants her to be. 

Notes:

Seth shows up!!!!! The Ely boys are like the entire Volunteer Fire Department, and the only brother mentioned by name is Seth. Alas, we never, ever see Seth again. I used to call him the Missing Eli Brother, but then Terri came out with that novella so ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

That one time Slocum has known Luke Ely for at least two years and says to Sam something like “hey let Jake Ely’s dad--what’s his name??? Luke???--know!” Bruh.

This COULD be a way of introducing him to us but like Terri has never had a problem saying their names in the narrative.

Also Sam has just rescued Linc after he’s fallen off Champ whoopsiedaisy

This is also the book where Jake mentions that he’s his mom’s baby!!! He is!!! He’s only 16 and he’s the youngest of her sons, he’s a baby!!!

This book is chock full of good Sake moments tbh

Darrel gives Sam an approving nod when she ambushes Jake at lunch (Darrel is 100% all about his bro Jake getting with Sam in literally every book we see him in so I Approve of Darrel) (even if he didn’t get EVEN COOLER in later books lmao)

Context? What context?

(fine if you don’t remember it’s because she’s trying to tell Jake what she overheard one of the rustlers saying and then SURPRISE he’s right behind her so she has to make something up Fast)

That one time Jake had to throw a gun off a cliff because he was afraid he was gonna use it when Flick threatened Sam

Sam gives Mikki her horse-hair bracelet at the end of the book. This comes up later so noting it now.

Sam’s mom is the reason she likes the river--she used to go out when she was pregnant and couldn’t sleep to calm little bb in the womb Sam and then they took Sam out as a baby to settle her down too. A very sweet Wyatt-Sam moment--those sometimes get overlooked (at least by me) bc Sam is always in Trouble lol

I haven’t gotten to the second HARP book yet (it’s #13 I actually just started it), but Jake’s a lot better in this one than I remember him being in that one (meaning...not as Shy™) (there is only one kid this go ‘round and she’s 11/12 so maybe that helps)

I totally forgot about this episode and all its potential

I forgot about this episode, but @vinan-rhaplanca reminded me of its awesome theory potential that I completely forgot about!!! Thanks for reminding me

Ok, so let’s go into the theory. What was the purpose of Ernesto hypnotizing the students when he was their substitute teacher? Specifically, why was he teaching KO’s class? Was there any significance to it? Let’s get into the details.

So in the episode “The So-Bad-ical” new textbooks are received by the students of KO’s school. Suspiciously named ‘Booksmore’ and they’re to teach the students basic math that they’ve already learned. And when their teacher, Ms. Quantum, goes on sabbatical a substitute teacher is hired to take her place. This person or rather robot was Ernesto from Boxmore. When Ernesto starts reading from the text books all the students go into a trance except for Dendy and KO (who falls asleep). We all know how it ends so I won’t go any further when explaining the episode.

But what is important is, why Ernesto was teaching KO’s class? Why would the Boxmore robots become involved with kids as young as KO?

It isn’t really what they’re known for. In fact, they probably prefer destroying things physically than anything else. And while they’re smart they aren’t the type of robots to have a well thought out plan. I know that they’re succeeding financially, but that’s probably because they spend their time better than Boxman ever did. Anywho, it just isn’t ‘in their programming’ if you catch my drift. They were made to follow orders by whoever was in charge. Whether that was Boxman or Darrel or maybe someone else....

As @vinan-rhaplanca suggested, maybe it was neither Boxman nor Darrel that gave the order to hypnotize the students at KO’s school. Perhaps it was Professor Venomous.

In the few occasions we’ve seen him in action, we know that PV is fairly respected by his fellow villains. We’ve never seen him use any sort of power. All we know about him is that he’s a bioengineer. What does this mean? Let me tell you.

To put this simply, a bioengineer is someone who uses the biological characteristics of certain living things and uses technology to innovate them. They’re the kind of scientists that can make artificial muscles, cells, etc.

Anywho, PV used bioengineering to create that ‘bio-chip’ that he gave to Bowman, which he used to give Boxman Jr. enough power to take down anyone in the plaza. However, he was almost no match to TKO/KO. I say almost because even TKO wasn’t able to destroy him right away. TKO was able to destroy a level 100 Darrel, but had a harder time taking down Boxman Jr..... but that’s a theory for another day.

Anywho, this wasn’t a typical Boxmore plan. Obviously they needed some guidance for this plan. Who was behind this plan? We don’t know for sure, but PV could be the one behind this. So IF he was behind this, what was his motive? Why would he want Ernesto to hypnotize KO’s class?

On another side note. What was the deal with their principle?!? I mean really? How dull do you have to be to hire a villain as a substitute teacher? Especially when a majority of them are looking to be heroes when they grow up. Perhaps the principal has a similar situation like Chip Damage, where he’s super friendly with people in public but once the curtains close he’s a different person... Who knows. He could just be that dull and irresponsible... maybe that’s why the students only see him once a year...🤔 but allow me to continue.

Maybe, PV wanted to kidnap KO where he knew no one would be watching him. Just think about it. His mom can’t watch him cause he’s at school and neither can Enid, Rad, or Gar. His strict teacher who keeps an eye on everyone just went on sabbatical. The principal needs a substitute. Soooo, he’s pretty much on his own. And to ensure he could get at KO without any repercussions he sends in someone KO doesn’t know as well as the others. Someone that KO hasn’t really faced, but is still somewhat feared. The best out of all the robots for the job is Ernesto (after all he is a business robot and isn’t really known for being violent).

Perhaps he knows what KO is capable of and wants to get his hands on his turbonic energy. I mean he’s already experimented with it before (remember that collar he made for Fink?)

SUPER LONG KO/TKO CHARACTER ANALYSIS POST THAT NOBODY ASKED FOR (part 1)

Hey guys so can we talk about KO/TKO for a bit?

So remember when TKO first showed up in the appropriately titled episode TKO.

So  in this episode, TKO is revealed to have always been a part of KO. He was just little blob of negative energy and even then he was in a cage.

Weather KO realizes it or not, he has been forcing his negative emotions deep down inside him for what we can assume is his whole life. 

The fact the when KO was finally pushed to his breaking point by Shadowy Figure to the point where it manifested his negativity into an entirely separate being able to take control of the body speaks volumes to me.

But if we take a closer look at things, That means KO has been angry all this time and hasn’t had a healthy outlet for his frustration, all this time. Meaning, TKO hasn’t had a healthy outlet all this time, not to mention he was trapped in a cage like an animal on top of it all.

When TKO challenges Rad and Enid to a power battle, he states “I told you, it’s T.K.O.. And I’m a whole different animal now.“

Honestly, i think that line says more than what it sounds like. TKO has been trapped in that cage, like an animal, for so long, that he considers himself to be an animal, even when he is free, he still identifies as an animal, just an animal that is no longer caged. 

Now before we talk about all the violent things TKO has done, let’s talk about the non violent things he has done. 

In his debut episode, TKO finally came to be and is told to go show his friends his new power. 

When he gets to the scene Enid and Rad are obviously in deep trouble. 

TKO swoops in and saves the day, absolutely obliterating the huge Darrell. 

Even if it was for the selfish purpose of showing off, I don’t think that’s all it was. 

One of the things that caused TKO to even come out of KO’s mind was Rad, Enid, and Mr.Gar’s words. 

“Power isn’t everything, at least you’re cute”

“Good hustle kid” 

“You’ll catch up to us someday...or not”

Now with as angry as TKO gets later in the episode from simply being called cute by Enid again, why wasn’t he angry enough to attack them right there?

No seriouly. TKO was very mad and was told to go show his friends how powerful he’s always been. Not show them your power by saving them from Darrell. 

Honestly if TKO is really so hostile and careless as he is shown to be later within the same episode, why didn’t he just attack Rad and Enid right there?

After he defeats Darrell and ushers his new name, TKO goes home. With his mom. Yet another person who triggered him to even manifest in the first place. 

In KO/TKO’s words “Mom said hard work will make me strong, but it hasn’t!” 

Meaning he is also mad at her for “wasting his time” Just as he is mad at Shadowy Figure for sort of doing the same thing, saying “You said getting mad at my friends would work, but it hasn’t!” 

Like, KO/TKO was willing to believe in his mother’s advice, after all he went along with it for a while, but he became so impatient with his mother’s way of training that he was willing to get mad at his friends, which he clearly didn’t want to do in the freaking first place.

Now back to Carol, If TKO was ready to beat up his own mother at the plaza in the episode’s nearing climax, what the frick was keeping him so chill? 

Like FOR A FULL DAY!? 

TKO, an actual manifestation of negativity and anger decided against fighting his friends and mother so he could go home with his mom, presumably eat dinner with her, record a video on KO’s video channel (as shown in the episode KO’s Video Channel) go to sleep, and wake up the next morning and then the meanest thing he does then is take her eyeliner without asking. (and then he yelled at her when she was in the background of his video so i guess that’s pretty mean too)

And when Carol asks about it, TKO just calmly says “I don’t feel like talking right now” and casually turns up his metal music. And the Carol turns it down. Now you’d think TKO would get mad at that little action. Like “Ugh! MOM! I want to listen to my music louder!” But no, he just lets her turn it down and continues to look out the window while she drives him to work. 

AND THAT’S ANOTHER THING!!! WHY THE HECK IS TKO EVEN BOTHERING TO GO TO WORK AT ALL?!

Like based on the personality we have been shown so far, why wouldn’t TKO wanna stay at home and be his edgy self, maybe re-record his video diary in privacy or do his nails and make-up and dress in black and listen to his music loud and break a few things. Why is he going to work? 

And why is he like, for real doing the work? Albeit, haphazardly but doing it nonetheless. 

And honestly, it super clear that TKO not only doesn’t want to be bothered but also doesn't really wanna bother others anyway. He ultimately just wants some space. Like any edgy child/teen.

I mean, he’s not even really mean to Enid and Rad. Maybe a little rude, but not really mean. He manages to hold a conversation with Enid, correcting her on his name, answering her question, and yeah he insults her by calling her a “wage slave” but he probably felt insulted since she called his answer to a question she asked “dramatic”. TKO was probably thinking: “You insult my world view, fine, I insult who you are.”

And yeah he ignores Rad, who is obviously trying to impress him, but TKO wasn’t impressed. If you think about it, TKO could have made fun of him or something but he didn’t he chose to ignore.

And like I said, TKO clearly had no intentions of doing anything particularly bad that day. It looks like he just wants to get through the day. That’s probably why he came to work, he just wants an excuse to fight another robot. Might as well occupy himself while he waits i guess.

I mean look at him. He is 100% chill and clearly wants to be left alone.

And then Rad and Enid come in and ruin his whole little mojo.

Now I know Enid and Rad are just trying to be good friends, they think KO is in some sort of Funk™ and they wanna cheer him up. And they do a sort of good job at trying, but during this, TKO is clearly struggling to get out of Rad’s arms. (honestly in my opinion, they should've took that as a hint and really leave him alone)

But that’s yet another thing! TKO, you know how strong you are. You DESTROYED the giant bomb Darrell bot in a single slash! And he was made of metal! Surely you know you are perfectly capable of getting out of Rad’s fleshy grip.

He does know. He is 1000% aware that he can get out of that grip. But he also knows that if he does, it will probably hurt Rad.

Remember, when he was talking about his metaphorical pizza worldview thing? He said “so called friends”

Guys, TKO identifies Rad and Enid as his friends, even if they laugh at him.

KO really doesn’t wanna do anything, the upcoming outburst that he is about to have wasn’t his intention.

Eventually he even stops struggling when Enid begins to shove nachos in his face. Almost as if he’s just gonna let them be annoying. But then Enid had to go and call him....

“Cute stuff...”

Alright, so we all know what happens from this point. Enid’s final “cute” is the final straw for TKO’s temper. He finally breaks free from Rad’s grip (without a single frame of struggle.) and challenges his friends to a power battle.

As the power battle continues, TKO becomes more and more aggressive and almost like he’s a predator after his prey. And notice how Enid is his target. Both times when Rad steps in to help Enid fight, TKO gets rid of him really quickly and begins focusing on Enid again. 

When Enid tells on him to Carol, notice he doesn’t attack right away, he just scoffs/growls like an angsty child/teen.

He doesn’t even really target Carol of anyone, he just starts being destructive on things.

Then Gar show’s up and says “I love your mom”, which manages to catch TKO off guard. 

He is genuinely confused and he almost seemed ready to hear Mr.Gar out on the sudden topic but when Gar goes and changes the subject and starts spouting compliments at him. 

Now while his compliments arent really lies? You can hear in Gar’s voice that he doesn’t fully mean what he is saying and he is clearly only saying to try an calm him down. 

And we all know when people are really angry, that last thing you want to tell them is to calm down.

So then TKO just snaps, he’s had absolutely enough!

There’s a blind rush going through him right now, he’s never had the chance to let out all this pent up rage. It feels great! All his life he’s been caged and now he’s out. Who care’s if someone gets hurt! letting out these years of rage, proving once and for all that I am strong, stronger than everyone! It feels great! 

Who’s next!

Then the episode ends with TKO getting put back in the cage after KO save his mom. Not the best idea..

Now, im not trying to say TKO is justified for trying to punch his his own mother, he obviously never wanted to. I’m just saying he had a lot of pent up rage and frustration and he was just a ticking time bomb of destructive emotion that was waiting to explode, waiting for someone to push that last button. 

AKA: Enid’s “cute stuff” comment and Mr. Gar’s somewhat “empty praise”

This whole thing, in my opinion, was just the result of KO holing in his anger and frustration for all those years. If you do that, you are bound to become a toxic version of yourself sooner or later. And sooner or later that means you will hurt those you hold dear to you. 

This also lets us know a little something about TKO. 

He’s a person. Yes, he is a manifestation of rage, but he has interests outside of that. He enjoys his music and dark make up and he likes making video diaries just as much as the original KO. TKO is a person and deserves to be treated like one, after all he’s been through. Yeesh...
