Prepare the Topping: Preheat oven to 175°C (350°F). Grease a square baking pan. Mix melted butter and brown sugar, then spread evenly over the bottom of the pan. Arrange banana slices and pecans on top.
Make the Cake Batter: In a bowl, cream butter and sugar until fluffy. Add eggs and vanilla, mixing well. In another bowl, combine flour, baking powder, and baking soda. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the butter mixture, alternating with buttermilk and mashed bananas.

A little cream of tartar can be added to the meringue to make it more stable. Adding the sugar a spoonful at a time while whipping will help it blend better. Whip the meringue until it is shiny and the stiff peaks have formed. Add the vanilla extract slowly while folding. You can make the meringue into smaller pieces and color each one if you want to. Move the meringue to a piping bag with a star-shaped tip. Place small kisses on the baking sheet that has been prepared. Put the meringue kisses in an oven that has already been heated for about 1.5 to 2 hours, or until they feel dry to the touch and are easy to peel off the parchment paper. After they're done, turn off the oven and let the meringue kisses cool all the way down inside. Once the meringue kisses are cool, put them in a container that won't let air in.
