Flash Was Killed Because It Was Objectively Dangerous
I get it, I get the Flash nostalgia and the fondness for old Flash games. I was big on Neopets before they decided to ruin the art and make all the pets samey paper dolls to play dressup with (completely ruining the point of the far more expensive "redraw" colors like Mutant and Faerie and Desert). I have fond memories of Newgrounds games and I even managed to take a class for a semester in high school where I could learn flash.
But I also remember how terrible it was. And you should too.
Leaving aside all of the issues involving performance and inaccessibility (such as being easily broken by bog-standard browser actions like the back button, and its ability to modify web code AND OS code in real time likely broke a lot of accessibility tech too), Flash was legitimately one of the most dangerous web technologies for the end user. An end-user is you, or more specifically back then, child-you.
According to Wikipedia and its sources, Flash Player has over a thousand vulnerabilities known and listed and over 800 of these lead to arbitrary code execution.
What is arbitrary code execution? That's when someone can just run any commands they want on a machine or program that didn't intend it. A fun way to see this is in this infamous Pokemon tool-assisted speedrun where they manage to get an SNES to show the host's twitch chat in real time. It's not so fun though when it's someone stealing all the files on your computer, grabbing your credentials so they could clean out your Neopets account (yes, really, it was a pretty common concern at the time), and other nefarious works. Also, there was a time where it allowed people to spy on you with your webcam and microphone.
Oh and on top of all of this, Flash had its own "flash cookies", which could not be cleared by ordinary means and thus could be used to track users indefinitely, at least until Adobe slapped a bandaid over it by introducing yet another screen an ordinary person wouldn't know to use. (I assume this is how the infamous neopets "cookie grabbers" worked, so they could get into your account. This is mainly what I remember about using Flash back in the early 2000s lol) So it not only was a "stranger taking over your machine" concern, but a bog-standard privacy concern too, arguably a precursor to our current panopticon internet landscape, where greedy websites would track you because they could and maybe get some money out of it, facilitated by this technology.
When Apple decided to block it, it wasn't out of greed; Steve Jobs cited its abysmal performance and security record, among other issues such as an inherent lack of touchscreen support, and Apple cited specific vulnerability use-cases when blocking specific versions before they nuked it entirely. When Mozilla, who makes Firefox, decided to block it, it's not like they would've gotten money out of doing so, or by offering an alternative; they did so because it is fucking dangerous.
Your ire and nostalgia is misplaced. Flash was not killed by our current shitty web practices that ruin unique spaces and fun games. Flash was killed because both Macromedia (its original developers) and Adobe were incapable of making it safe, if that was even possible, and it was killed after third-parties, in an unprecedented gesture, collectively threw their hands up and said enough.
Well, that and HTML5 being developed and becoming more widespread, being able to do everything Flash can do without being a pox on technology. One could argue that you should bemoan the lack of Flash-to-HTML5 conversion efforts, but that requires asking a lot of effort of people who would have to do that shit for free...and if they have to run Flash to do so, opening themselves up to some of the nastiest exploits on the internet.
Nostalgia is a fucking liar. The games themselves I think are worth having nostalgia over (look, I still find myself pining for that one bullet hell Neopets made and Hannah and the Pirate Caves), but Flash itself deserves none of that, and absolutely deserved to be put in the fucking ground. You're blaming the wrong causes. It was terrible.
(specifics and sources found via its wikipedia page, which has a lot more than is mentioned here. and also my own opinions and experiences back then. lol)

Across the room, a glass wall separated the lobby from an expansive office.
Behind the desk stood a woman.
Yu Jimin.
You recognized her immediately.
"No, I don’t care what your logs say, I said check the handler before pushing it. How many times do I have to tell you — if you touch the server side without passing QA, you don’t wait for my damn permission. You just don’t do it!"
The man across from her, mid-30s, in a T-shirt and jeans, looked like he wanted to disappear.
"But Jimin-ssi, I thought—"
"Don’t think. Test. Revert the commit. Fix the loop. And tell Minseok to stop patching garbage into mainline before stand-up!"
You froze in the doorway, hesitant to interrupt. But just then, Jimin turned, probably catching your reflection in the glass.
She looked straight at you.
Her expression shifted instantly. The hard edge in her eyes melted, replaced by something more measured. Still alert, but… different.
"Out," she snapped without breaking eye contact. Her voice still firm — but directed entirely at the programmer.
"Y-yeah. Right. Sorry, sunbae," the man stammered, grabbing his laptop and nearly tripping over the chair as he left the office.
Jimin waited until the door clicked shut.
Then, her voice lowered, smoother, almost warm: "You’re the applicant, right? Come in."
You swallowed and stepped inside, forcing your shoulders back, your heartbeat suddenly louder in your ears.
She moved around to the front of her desk, one hand slipping into her pocket. She looked at you carefully — not in the judgmental way you expected, but like she was scanning for something specific. Noticing.
"I’m Yu Jimin," she said, holding your gaze. "Nice to meet you."
You stepped closer, bowed politely, then fumbled to pull your resume from your bag. Your fingers felt slightly stiff as you handed it over.
"Here’s my resume," you said, trying not to sound nervous.
She took it with one hand, flipping it open with practiced ease. She glanced down, eyes scanning the page, then back up at you. Her mouth tugged into a faint smile.
"You studied law," she noted. "Dongguk University?"
"Yes," you said, nodding once. "Graduated last year."
"Good." She looked you over again — gladly not in a disapproving way. Her eyes lingered a second longer than necessary before returning to the paper. "And you’ve got decent language certifications. Any actual office experience?"
You shifted your weight. "Just part-time admin work during school. Filing, basic scheduling. Nothing serious."
Yu hummed, closing the resume slowly. "I see."
Her eyes locked on yours again. "You’re pretty young. Most people applying here for assistant or analyst roles are already in their late thirties."
You nodded, unsure what to say.
She tilted her head slightly, the edge of her lip pulling upward. "But you look like the type that learns fast."
You blinked.
There was a moment of silence. Then she leaned against the edge of her desk, still facing you.
"Do people tell you you have a very… calm face? Like you don’t get flustered easily," she said.
"I—uh… not really," you replied, confused. "I'm actually flustered all the time."
That made her laugh, low and quick. "At least you're honest."
You felt your cheeks warm slightly.
Jimin tapped your resume against her palm, still watching you. "Do you mind if I ask something not on here?"
You shook your head. "No, go ahead."
"Are you single?"
You stared at her.
She smiled, unapologetic. "Sorry, that was inappropriate. You don’t have to answer that. Just — curious."
You forced a small laugh, unsure how to respond. "It’s okay. Uh… no, I have a boyfriend."
Her eyebrow arched slightly, but she let it hang there without commenting further. She set your resume down on the desk and crossed her arms.
"Alright," she said, her tone returning to something closer to professional. "I’ll be straight with you. The position I have open isn’t glamorous. It’s a mix of scheduling, document review, fielding calls, and sometimes dealing with my CTO’s bad temper."
You nodded. "I can handle that."
"I’m sure you can."
She pushed herself off the desk and walked back around to her chair, gesturing for you to sit in the one opposite.
"Let’s talk details, then."
"So, the position is technically 'executive assistant,'" she said, tapping a pen lightly on your resume. "But in reality, it’s a secretary role. Mostly supporting me directly."
You nodded. "That's fine. I don’t mind handling basic tasks."
"You’d manage my calendar, coordinate meetings, handle follow-up emails, and — occasionally — remind me to eat something before I collapse." She gave a small smirk. "It’s not the most thrilling job in the world, but I do value people who can keep things running."
"I understand. I’m organized. And I don’t mind repetitive work."
She tilted her head again, watching you.
"You strike me as someone who's careful. Neat handwriting, polite tone, dressed conservatively… very by-the-book." Her eyes scanned your outfit briefly. "Your boyfriend must like that about you."
You blinked, not expecting her to bring that back up. "I guess. I mean, we have our differences."
"Mm. He must be a lucky guy," she said casually, resting her chin on her hand. "Though personally, I find it a bit wasteful."
"Wasteful?"
She shrugged. "Letting someone like you spend your best years covering for a guy who plays games all day. If it were me, I wouldn’t let you leave the apartment in the morning without at least three compliments and a decent breakfast."
You didn’t know what to say to that. You gave a small, awkward smile, but looked away.
Jimin leaned back slightly, still watching. "Sorry. I’m being too forward again."
"It’s okay," you muttered. "I just didn’t expect this kind of interview."
"Neither did I," she said quietly, almost to herself.
There was a brief silence before she clicked her pen and returned to a neutral tone.
"Anyway. It's a full-time position. Nine to six, Monday to Friday. Sometimes later, depending on deadlines. Pay starts at 2.8 million won a month, plus lunch stipend, transportation allowance, and health coverage."
You nodded quickly. "That’s fair. More than I expected, honestly."
"Good." She paused, then added, "If you’re hired, you'll also need to sign a confidentiality agreement. We work with a few sensitive clients."
"That’s not a problem."
Jimin gave a small nod, then tapped your resume once more before setting it aside.
"I like you," she said plainly. "You seem grounded. Honest. A little too stiff maybe — but that can be unlearned."
You blinked again. "Thanks… I think."
"That was a compliment," she added, smirking, "Even if you have a boyfriend."
Your breath caught slightly. "You’re very direct."
"I don’t like wasting time."
Jimin’s fingers lingered at your waist just a second longer before she reached up and brushed a loose strand of hair from your face.
"You really shouldn’t be going home alone after drinking," she said quietly. "Even if it's just a couple glasses."
"I’m fine," you replied, your voice quieter now. "It’s just the subway, twenty minutes and I'm home."
She shook her head once. "No. I’d rather not risk it."
Before you could argue, she was already stepping away, reaching into her blazer pocket and pulling out her phone.
"I’ll call my driver. He’s downstairs. He can take you wherever you need to go."
You watched her, caught somewhere between flattered and confused. "Jimin, really, you don’t have to—"
"I know I don’t." She glanced at you again, her tone softer. "But I want to."
There was a pause while she tapped something out, then she looked up again.
"He’ll be out front in five. Black Genesis sedan. Plate ends in 78."
You exhaled slowly. "Okay… thanks."
She came closer again, standing in front of you but not too close this time.
"It’s nothing. You’ve had a long day, and you still managed to hold yourself together like a pro. Least I can do is make sure you get home safe."
You nodded, feeling your heartbeat still a little fast — not from the alcohol, but from her. From the way she looked at you like she actually saw you.
"Let me grab my things," you murmured.
She nodded once. "I’ll walk you out."
You picked up your bag, the warmth of the office still clinging to you as she opened the door. For a brief second before stepping into the hallway, you glanced back at her — still half in disbelief that a woman like her was showing this kind of attention. And care.
Jimin caught your glance and gave you a small smile. "Let’s go."
The elevator ride down was quiet, but not uncomfortable. She stood beside you, hands in her pockets, glancing over once or twice but saying nothing.
As the elevator doors opened in the lobby, the driver was already visible through the glass doors outside, standing next to a sleek black Genesis parked at the curb.
You stepped forward, but Jimin suddenly reached out and took your bag from your shoulder.
"Hey—"
She shook her head. "You’ve had enough on your back today," she said simply. "Let me."
You blinked at her. "It’s really not that heavy—"
"I didn’t say it was." She slung the strap over her own shoulder, ignoring your protest. "I just don’t want you carrying it."
You gave her a look, but didn’t argue again. There was something firm but not aggressive in her tone — like she didn’t see it as a favor, just a given.
The driver opened the back door as the two of you approached. Jimin handed off the bag to him gently. Then she turned to you.
"He knows where to take you. I texted him your address already."
You stared at her. "Jimin, you’re... really something else, you know that?"
Her smile was slow. "I’ll take that as a compliment."
You climbed into the backseat. Before you could close the door, Jimin leaned down slightly, just outside the frame.
"Text me when you get home. Just so I know."
You nodded. "Okay."
She paused for a second, then added, "And try to get some sleep. Tomorrow might be your first day, if you’re still interested."
You couldn’t help but smile. "Yeah. I am."
With that, she stepped back, and the driver closed the door.
The car pulled up in front of the apartment building just as the sky started to turn that soft grey before sunset. The driver stepped out and came around to your side, opening the door with a quiet, "Miss, we're here."
You nodded, thanking him softly as he helped you out. The black Genesis looked completely out of place on your quiet street. As you adjusted your bag on your shoulder, you noticed Yunho standing at the front gate, leaning on the railing with a familiar scowl.
His eyes were locked on the car, then shifted to the driver, then to you.
You didn’t say anything as you walked past him toward the building entrance. He walked behind you.
"Nice ride," he muttered, the sarcasm already thick in his voice.
You kept walking, trying to keep your expression neutral. But by the time you unlocked the apartment door and stepped inside, you could already hear the frustration in his voice building up behind you.
"So who the hell was that?"
You dropped your bag, taking off your shoes. "My new boss’s driver. She didn’t want me going home alone after drinks."
"She?" Yunho raised an eyebrow, crossing his arms. "And she just sends a luxury car like you're some damn CEO?"
You looked over your shoulder. "What’s your problem?"
"My problem?" he snapped. "You show up in a car that costs more than this building, some guy opening your door like you’re royalty, and you don’t even think to explain?"
You turned to face him fully now, jaw tight. "Because I didn’t think I had to explain basic decency. It was a job interview. A good one. With a woman who actually take their work seriously."
His eyes narrowed. "And what? You’re suddenly impressed with her because she got money and fancy cars?"
"No," you said sharply. "Because she work. She built something. She do more than sit around playing League all day waiting for a miracle that’s not coming."
That hit. He flinched slightly, but recovered with bitterness.
"So now I’m the loser again."
"I didn’t say that," you replied, even though the words were hanging in the air.
"Yeah, but you didn’t need to." He scoffed. "Guess it’s easy to look down on me now that you’ve had drinks with billionaires."
You sighed. "I’m tired, Yunho. I’ve been tired for a long time. I just want a future that isn’t built on excuses."
He didn’t reply.
You picked up your bag again and walked into the bedroom, needing to be alone. For a moment, you considered texting Jimin like she asked.
But instead, you sat on the edge of the bed, phone in hand, thinking about how quickly everything could change — and whether you'd be brave enough to let it.
You stood by the bed, pulling an old hoodie over your tank top, when your phone buzzed on the nightstand. You glanced at the screen. Yu Jimin.
It was already past 10 p.m. You hesitated for a second — normal people didn’t call at this hour for anything work-related — but you still picked it up.
"Hello?"
There was a pause, then her voice came through, low and smooth, a little rough like she’d either been drinking something warm or was just naturally that way late at night.
"Hey. I hope I’m not bothering you."
You sat down on the edge of the bed again. "No. Just got home a while ago."
Another pause, lighter this time. "Did my driver get you home okay?"
"Yeah, he was polite. Thank you again."
"Mmh," she hummed. "I told him not to be too polite. I wanted to be the one to spoil you."
You exhaled through a short laugh, not sure how to respond to that.
There was a rustling sound on her end, like she was leaning back into a couch or bed. Then she asked, softly, "How are you feeling?"
You blinked. It wasn’t a usual question — not when coming from someone you barely met a few hours ago. But it was genuine. You could tell.
"A little overwhelmed, honestly. But... not in a bad way."
"I figured," Jimin said. "It was a long day. But you did well. I meant it when I said I want you on the team."
You nodded slowly, even though she couldn’t see it.
"And," she continued, voice still smooth, "I have a business trip. Paris. Airplane. Tomorrow. Boring tech meeting with men who’ll repeat the same pitch three different ways. I’m supposed to attend... but I don’t really want to go alone."
You sat up straighter. "You want me to come with you?"
Jimin chuckled softly. "Well, officially, I’ll say I need a secretary with me. You know, someone to help coordinate meetings and smile politely."
"And unofficially?"
"Unofficially, I just want to look across the table and see you there so I don’t fall asleep."
You didn’t know what to say. You stared at the floor for a moment, then bit your lip. "You’re really asking me to fly to Paris with you?"
"Yes," she said simply. "One night in a suite, nice food, we come back after the meeting. Think of it as a trial run for the job. Or... just an excuse to get to know each other better."
You looked over toward the closed door of the living room where Yunho had gone quiet. Then back down at your phone.
"Okay," you said, quietly but firmly. "I’ll go."
There was silence for half a beat. Then a pleased hum on the other end. "Good girl."
Your cheeks flushed.
"I’ll have my assistant book everything," she added, voice softening again. "Just bring yourself."
"Thanks for the invitation," you said, letting your voice drop just a little, a teasing edge slipping in. "I'll try not to embarrass you in Paris."
Jimin laughed on the other end. "I’m counting on you to distract everyone, actually."
You bit your lip, smiling to yourself. "Then I’ll pack something nice."
"You better."
The line went quiet after that, and you set your phone down on the nightstand, heart still beating a little faster than usual. You stood up, ran a hand through your hair, then walked to the closet.
You opened the suitcase you hadn’t used in over a year, dragging it out from the bottom shelf. It was a little dusty. You unzipped it, already thinking through what you’d need.
You were halfway through folding a shirt when Yunho's voice came from the doorway behind you.
"What the hell are you doing?"
You didn’t turn around right away. Just kept folding the shirt, slower this time. "Packing."
He scoffed. "No shit. Where are you going?"
"Paris. For work."
You heard his footstep into the room. "With who? That fancy company that sent you home in a private car like you’re some VIP?"
You turned around now, meeting his gaze. He looked like he hadn’t moved from the couch since you left.
"Yes," you said flatly. "YJ Group. My boss invited me to go with her for a meeting. It's work."
He stared at you, then laughed once, sarcastically. "Your boss. Yeah, I bet."
You crossed your arms. "You wanna do this now?"
"You're really just gonna run off with some rich stranger because she gave you a ride in a nice car?"
You stepped around the suitcase. "No, I'm going because she offered me a job. A real job. Something you haven't bothered to look for in months."
"That's low."
"No," you said, pointing at him now, "what's low is sitting on your ass every day, gaming with your friends, pretending you're gonna magically become some pro player while I'm the one stressing about rent, bills, everything."
He was quiet. Not because you’d gone too far—because you hadn’t.
You turned back to the suitcase. "I’m going. You don’t have to like it."
He stood there for a second longer, jaw tight. Then he turned and walked out.
You zipped the suitcase closed.
You lay down on the bed with your suitcase closed and standing near the door, ready. The apartment was quiet now.
You stared up at the ceiling, the dim light from the hallway spilling in just enough to make out the outline of the fan above.
Everything still felt a bit surreal.
Just yesterday, you'd been checking job boards with zero leads and zero hope. Now, you were flying to Paris with the founder of one of the most talked-about tech companies in the country. And not just flying — invited. Personally, not just email that her assistant would sent her. For "business."
But it wasn’t just the job that occupied your thoughts.
It was Jimin.
Her voice still echoed in your head—calm, smooth, slightly rough like she’d been talking all day, but always careful when she spoke to you. The way her eyes had lingered when you first walked into the office. The casual touch at your waist.
You exhaled slowly and turned to your side, pulling the blanket up to your chin.
It was insane. She was your boss. You had a boyfriend — barely. But still.
And yet, your last thought before falling asleep wasn’t about Yunho, or your resume, or the meeting ahead.
It was about her.
What it would feel like to sit beside her on the plane?
To hear her laugh in person again?
To see what she looked like outside the damn office — off guard, relaxed.
Then, eyes slowly closed.
You woke up to the weight of an arm around your waist and the faint heat of breath against the back of your neck.
Then realization hit you — Yunho.
His arm was draped lazily over you like nothing had happened last night. Like he hadn’t stood in the doorway accusing you of sleeping your way into a promotion. Like he hadn’t sat around for months doing nothing while you scrambled to hold everything together.
You stared at the wall for a long moment. His touch didn’t feel comforting. It felt heavy. Clingy. Like something that used to mean safety but now just made your skin crawl.
Carefully, you slid your hand under his wrist and lifted his arm off you. He stirred but didn’t wake. You sat up slowly, then swung your legs over the side of the bed.
You didn’t look back.
The floor was cold under your feet as you walked to the bathroom, shutting the door with a quiet click. You turned on the light, squinting for a second, then faced yourself in the mirror.
You turned on the tap and splashed cold water on your face. It shocked you awake, and for a moment you just stood there, dripping, palms braced on the sink.
You stepped out of the bathroom, towel still draped around your shoulders, when your phone buzzed on the dresser. You picked it up, half expecting a message — but instead, Jimin’s name lit up the screen.
You hesitated, then answered.
"Hello?"
Her voice came through smooth and unhurried. "Morning. I’m downstairs."
You blinked. "Wait—what?"
"I figured we could go to the airport together," she said casually, then added, a hint of playfulness creeping into her voice, "Is that a problem?"
You glanced down at yourself — damp hair, still in your robe, your suitcase half-zipped on the floor.
"I’m not ready. At all," you admitted, pressing the phone between your shoulder and ear as you reached for the blow dryer. "You should’ve told me you were coming."
"Wanted to surprise you," Jimin said, a low chuckle in her throat. "But I don’t mind waiting. Take your time. I just wanted to see your face this morning."
You rolled your eyes but couldn’t help the small smile pulling at your lips. "Give me ten minutes. Fifteen tops."
"I’ll be right here," she said. "Take your time, seriously. I’ll just sit here, imagine what you look like all flustered and running around in a towel."
You flushed despite yourself. "Goodbye, Jimin."
You dressed quickly but carefully — nothing over the top, just a clean blouse, black slacks and a light jacket.
Before you left, you stood for a moment in the doorway of the bedroom.
Yunho was still asleep, sprawled across the bed like he hadn’t moved since you left it. The blankets were tangled around his legs, one arm hanging over the edge. Peaceful, useless, oblivious.
You didn’t feel angry anymore. Just... done.
You closed the door behind you quietly, pulling the handle until you heard the latch click.
The elevator ride down was silent. Just the hum of the old motor and the dull flicker of fluorescent lights. Then the doors opened — and there she was.
Jimin stood beside a sleek, black Genesis G90, parked right in front of the building like it belonged there. She was dressed sharptailored slacks, an expensive-looking trench coat, sunglasses pushed up on her head — and in her hand, a small bouquet of red roses.
You blinked.
She smiled as you stepped out into the morning air. "For you," she said, holding the flowers out. "Don’t read into it. I just thought they’d suit you."
You hesitated, then took them. "Thanks... You didn’t have to do that."
"Maybe not," she replied with a slight smirk, "but I wanted to."
She opened the car door for you herself, like it was nothing, like it was natural. You slipped in, setting the flowers gently on your lap as the driver closed the trunk on your suitcase and moved around to the front.
Jimin got in next to you, and just before the car pulled away from the curb, she looked over at you.
"You look so good, by the way," she said, tone casual — but there was something behind her eyes that made your skin feel warm. "Worth the wait."
You tried not to smile too much. "You’re not so bad yourself."
You shifted slightly in your seat, the bouquet of roses still resting in your lap, their scent faint but sweet.
Her eyes kept drifting — casually at first, but then less so.
"You really do look good today," she said suddenly, her voice low but clear. "It’s not just polite small talk. I mean it."
You glanced at her, trying not to seem caught off guard. "Thanks. I tried to look presentable."
"It’s more than that," she replied, resting her arm along the door. "You’ve got this... natural thing going. Like you’re not even trying, but you walk in and somehow turn all the attention to you."
You raised an eyebrow. "Pretty sure the attention’s on you. You're the one with the billion-won company."
She gave a short laugh. "Business is boring. People like to act impressed, but it's just money. you, though—" she paused, letting her eyes linger on you for just a second longer than was casual, "—you're interesting."
You looked out the window for a moment, heartbeat steady but quick. "You don’t even know me that well."
"Not yet," she said, tone playful, but not joking, "we will have time in Paris to get to know each other... better."
Silence settled between you for a few seconds, comfortable, not awkward.
Jimin reached into the center console and pulled out a small bottle of water, handing it to you. "Drink it. I don’t want you passing out on the plane. That would ruin the vibe."
You accepted it, chuckling under your breath. "Thanks, boss."
"Call me Jimin," she said smoothly. "We're not in the office now."
You glanced at her again, and she gave you a look that lingered a little too long to be just friendly.
The car sped on toward the airport, and for the first time in a while, you felt a kind of nervousness you didn't mind at all.
At the curb outside the airport, the car eased to a stop. You could even think to move, Jimin was already circling around the car.
"I’ve got it," she said, reaching into the trunk herself and grabbing both your suitcase and hers without hesitation, by that time one of her attendants approached her.
She waved off the him, who looked like he was about to protest. "It’s fine. I don’t want her carrying anything."
You blinked, a little surprised. "Jimin, I can carry my own bag."
She turned her head slightly, giving you that half-smile she seemed to reserve just for moments like this. "And yet, I’d rather do it. Come on."
With both bags in hand, she walked with confident strides toward the sliding glass doors of the terminal. You followed a half-step behind, feeling the stares from a few passersby.
Inside, she made a direct line for the business check-in counter, bypassing the lines entirely. An attendant spotted her immediately and motioned her forward.
"Miss Yu," the woman said politely with a quick bow. "We’ve been expecting you. Everything is ready."
Jimin nodded, setting the bags down gently and placing her ID on the counter. "And my guest. She’s with me."
The attendant looked at you, then smiled and gave another respectful nod. "Of course. Right away."
You shifted awkwardly beside Jimin as they processed the check-in. She glanced sideways at you and leaned in just slightly.
"Relax, doll," she murmured, "this part’s the easiest. No pressure. Just stick with me."
You gave a small nod, trying not to seem out of place in the well-dressed, fast-paced atmosphere.
Within a few minutes, the boarding passes were printed, the luggage tagged and taken, and the attendant was handing back her documents with both hands.
"Enjoy your flight, Miss Yu."
She took the passes and handed yours to you before gently guiding you toward the private security lane.
"You’re handling this pretty well," she said quietly, almost teasingly. "Some people get overwhelmed on their first trip with me."
You smirked, walking beside her. "I guess I’m just built different."
Jimin glanced at you with a faint smile.
The boarding announcement echoed through the terminal speakers, and you followed Jimin toward the gate, your steps slowing a little as the walkway to the plane came into view.
The faint rumble of jet engines outside was louder than you remembered. It had been years since you’d last flown—and never on something this fancy.
You stopped short just before the boarding agent could scan your pass, your grip tightening slightly around the paper ticket.
Jimin, already a few steps ahead, turned immediately when she realized you weren’t beside her. Her eyes flicked to your face, catching the hesitation.
Without a word, she passed both her designer travel bag and yours to the tall, suited man who had been trailing them silently since the car — her bodyguard, walked right back to you.
She didn’t ask anything. Didn’t say a word at first.
Then, to your surprise, she crouched down on one knee in front of you, her hands reaching up to gently take yours.
"Hey," she said, voice low and calm, eyes level with yours, "you okay?"
You swallowed and gave a small nod, trying to play it off. "I just… haven’t flown in a long time. It’s stupid, I know."
"Not stupid." She squeezed your hands lightly. "You’re stepping into something new. That always messes with your head a bit."
You glanced around, a little embarrassed, but no one seemed to care. The gate agent gave you space, and the few people nearby looked away politely.
Jimin tilted her head. "Want me to say something comforting?"
You nodded hesitantly.
She paused, pretending to think hard, then gave you a crooked grin. "Okay. Deep breath. Ready?"
You nodded again.
"I have absolutely no idea how to calm down scared girls," she said, straight-faced. "But you're cute when you're nervous, so I’m just going to stay here until you feel better. Is that working?"
You let out a shaky laugh despite yourself, the tension easing slightly.
"Kind of."
"Kind of is good enough," she said, then stood smoothly, brushing imaginary dust from her slacks. She didn’t let go of your hand. "Come on. I’ll sit next to you the whole way. And if you get scared mid-air, I promise not to make fun of you more than twice."
You rolled your eyes but followed her, finally stepping through the gate and onto the plane.
Inside the private jet, everything looked more like a high-end hotel lounge than anything that should be airborne.
You sank into one of the cream-colored seats next to Jimin, still holding onto the remnants of your earlier nerves, though they were steadily being replaced by a sense of disbelief.
The flight attendant, dressed in a perfectly tailored navy uniform, approached with a polite smile and handed each of you a thick, high-quality menu. All of it — every single item — was printed in French.
You stared at the page, trying to make sense of the cursive typography, but gave up after the third item. "I have no idea what any of this means," you muttered.
Jimin peeked at your menu, then gave you a teasing look. "You mean you didn’t study fine dining terms in law school?"
You rolled your eyes. "Sorry, no. We barely got through Latin."
She chuckled, flipping open her own menu. "Alright, let’s see. 'Foie gras' — that’s duck liver, but like… the fancy kind. And this one — 'homard rôti' — that’s roasted lobster. Worth trying."
You nodded slowly, trying to keep up.
"'Velouté de cèpes' — mushroom soup, but the expensive type. And this one…" She pointed to a long line near the bottom, "'Chocolat noir aux épices douces' — dark chocolate dessert with sweet spices. Probably the best thing here."
"So basically everything costs more because it sounds better in French," you joked.
Jimin grinned, leaning a little closer to you, her shoulder brushing yours. "Exactly. But don’t worry, I’ll order for you. I’ll make sure you don’t accidentally end up with something raw and moving."
You laughed quietly, grateful for the way she made this all feel less overwhelming.
The low hum of the jet was oddly calming. You sat back in the wide leather seat, feeling the unfamiliar weight of luxury around you. Across from you, Jimin was already speaking smoothly in French to the flight attendant, her tone casual but confident.
"Deux portions de filet de bar avec légumes grillés. Une salade niçoise. Et... la bouteille de Dom Pérignon, 2013, s’il vous plaît."
«Two portions of sea bass fillet with grilled vegetables. A Niçoise salad. And... the bottle of Dom Pérignon, 2013, please.»
The attendant nodded and disappeared quietly into the galley.
Jimin turned her attention back to you, crossing one leg over the other. Her eyes rested on you for a moment before she spoke.
"So," she said, lightly. "How did your boyfriend take the news?"
You hesitated, then shrugged. "Not well."
Jimin tilted her head. "Predictable."
You let out a breath. "He didn’t understand. Just saw the car. Assumed the worst."
"Typical," Jimin muttered, her voice dry. "You know..." She leaned in just a bit, elbows on her knees. "Someone like you shouldn’t be stuck with someone like that."
You looked up, unsure how to respond.
She continued, "You’re smart. Gorgeous. Trying to build something for yourself. And he? He’s waiting to ‘make it’ in a video game while you carry the weight of both your futures."
You glanced down at your phone, buzzing silently on the armrest. Yunho.
You stared at his name for a second. No message, just the call.
Then, without a word, you tapped the airplane icon on the screen. The signal vanished.
Jimin watched quietly as you set the phone down, face down.
You looked up again, managing a faint smile.
"Good," she said softly. Then she poured two glasses of champagne and handed you one.
“To new beginnings.”
The attendant returned with their meals, placing the plates down on the small table between you and Jimin. The smell hit you first — fresh, delicate, not overly seasoned. Just… clean. Refined.
You picked up your fork, carefully cutting off a small piece of the sea bass fillet. The texture was soft but held together well, and as soon as you took a bite, your eyes widened slightly.
"Oh my god," you said, surprised. "I’ve never tasted anything like this."
She smiled behind her glass as she took another sip of champagne. "It’s line-caught Mediterranean sea bass. Very light. They cook it at just the right temp so it doesn’t lose moisture."
You looked at her, fork halfway to your mouth again.
"Some of the Michelin kitchens I’ve been to," she continued casually, “they poach it gently in olive oil, sometimes with a touch of citrus and white wine. But this one’s grilled. Clean, simple. No heavy sauces to cover the flavor.”
You chewed slowly, appreciating it more with every bite. "I didn’t know fish could taste like this," you muttered, almost to yourself.
She grinned. "You’d be surprised what food is like when people care about the details. When it’s not just… whatever’s cheap and fast."
You nodded quietly, sipping your champagne. Even that tasted better than you expected — sharp and crisp, but soft as it went down. You weren’t sure if it was the drink or the company, but your shoulders had started to relax.
Jimin didn’t push the conversation. She just sat with you, eating slowly, saying little, glancing over at you now and then with that slight, unreadable smile.
You arrived in Paris late in the evening. The hotel room was spacious and modern, with a large window framing a perfect view of the Eiffel Tower glowing softly in the distance.
Jimin was busy unpacking her things — carefully folding clothes, setting them neatly on the dresser. You stood by the window, staring out at the city, feeling a strange mix of excitement and nervousness.
Noticing you, Jimin paused and smiled faintly. She stepped behind you quietly and, almost without thinking, wrapped her arms gently around your waist.
You stiffened for a moment, then relaxed into her hold.
She leaned in slightly, her voice low and teasing. "Not used to views like this, huh?"
You glanced back at her, managing a small smile. "No, not really."
She stayed close, the city lights reflecting softly in her eyes. "Good. Then maybe it’s time you got used to better things."
Her hands slid to your shoulders, gently kneading the tense muscles, causing you to sigh in relaxation, leaning slightly against her. "Would you like me to run a jacuzzi for you?"
You didn't say anything, just nodded silently, after which you felt the absence of her hands on your body, which made you slightly disappointed, but you didn't have to wait long. Ten minutes later she returned to you, smiling warmly and taking your hand, "come on, I will take care of you tonight."
At the corner of the bathroom stood a massive, sunken jacuzzi tub, already filled with steaming, bubbling water. The scent of lavender and vanilla wafted through the air, the soothing aroma of the essential oils she had added to the water.
"Sweetheart, let me help you get undressed," she offered, but her hands already working on the buttons of your shirt. She took her time, her fingers brushing against your skin with every button she undid, savoring the feel of her soft flesh against her fingertips.
She slid it off your shoulders, letting it drop to the floor. Leaned down, letting you to take all chances to pull back, but as she understood that you had no intention to back off, she captured your lips in a slow, sensual kiss as her hands reached behind to unhook your bra. She let it fall away, breaking the kiss to toss it aside carelessly.
"You're so fucking beautiful, doll," she breathed, reaching out to trail her fingertips along the swell of your breasts, feeling the weight of them in her palms. "I could spend hours just looking at you."
She took your hand gently, helping you into the warm water, the way the water touched your tense shoulders made you close your eyes, enjoying the feeling of your aching muscles relaxing.
Opening your eyes, you saw Jimin slowly unbuttoning her pants, letting them slide down her long, skinny legs, before sending the outerwear down the same path to the floor. Stepping over the edge of the jacuzzi, she carefully appeared behind you, the steam rising around her as she settled into the water.
She pulled your back against her chest, wrapping her arms around your waist. "Come here, doll," she cooed, holding you close as she leaned back against the built-in cushion of the tub.
She could feel you against her, melting into her arms as the warm water soothed you. Her arms began to gently rub your shoulders, fingers working out any lingering tension.
As she massaged sore muscles, she pressed gentle kisses along the side of your neck, her lips lingering on the smooth skin. "You're so tense, baby. Let me help you relax," she cooed, her hands sliding up to your neck to knead the knots there.
Again. Hands slid lower, tracing the curve of your spine before coming to rest on your hips, gripping them gently. "You know, you have such a beautiful back," she murmured, her lips brushing against your shoulder blade. "I swear, I could spend hours exploring it."
Her fingers began to knead the muscles of you lower back, working out any remaining tension. She could feel the way your body body growing heavy and relaxed, melting. "That's my good girl," Jimin praised, her voice a low, intimate rumble. "Can you just let yourself go, sweetheart? Let me take care of you like no one can, I swear."
Jimin's hands slowly slid around to your stomach, fingers splaying across the soft skin. She pulled you more closer, hugging you from behind as the warm water lapped at your skin. "You need someone who can take care of you like I can," her cheek resting against the top of your head. "You need someone, with whom you won't have to count every penny and think whether you'll have enough to pay the bills tomorrow, you need me, doll."
"I want to touch every part of you, sweetheart," she breathed against your neck, her lips brushing against the sensitive skin. "I want to make you feel pleasure that would be beyond anything you've ever experienced in your life."
Her thumb found your clit, circling the sensitive nub with teasing strokes. She could feel you squirming against her touch, the way your hips rocking instinctively to meet her touch.
"Yeah? Do you like it?" she chuckled, burying her nose in the crook of your neck, while her movements, as if mockingly, became faster and slower, as if not giving you a chance to get used to such sensations. "I know you do, doll, this is not even half of what I will do to you tonight."
You barely heard her words, all of it mixed in unison with the phantom sensations of her touches on your body, with the pleasant, warm and slightly dim lighting of this jacuzzi, and the smell of essential oils that were added to the water like an additional drug to quickly drive you crazy.
"I'm ready to spend millions just to see you like this every day, at my disposal," Jimin bit her bottom lip as she heard your uncontrollable whines getting louder with each passing second, "and I think you won't mind."
She said the last sentence with a smirk, and fuck, of course she was right, you've never experienced anything like this, not even close, her touch, her words.
Too well, despite her teasing, she listened attentively to all the sounds that flew out of your mouth, as if with her ears trying to catch that very painful note that would make her stop, even though that was the last thing she wanted right now.
But your comfort was the most important thing now, and that's why when she didn't felt the resistance of your body, she just continued, knowing that right now you want it no less than she does.
"Come on, sweetheart," she babbled, the gentle yet still trembling tone of her voice making you arch your back, pressing your back against her chest, "you don't want to disappoint me, do you?"
Your walls started to clamp around nothing, and feeling this pleasant pulsation, she understood that you were close, and the particularly high moan that flew out of your mouth only confirmed this.
"That's my good girl," she immediately praised, but did not allow you to rest, her hands again slid to your hips, forcing you to turn towards her, ending up on her lap.
This change of position caused some water in the hot tub to spill overboard, but obviously now you both didn't care.
"You're so beautiful, gow many times have I told you this today?" Her words made you smile, "more than necessary," you replied, looking at her face while your lips were almost a millimeter apart.
"Never, I'm ready to repeat this to you at least a hundred times until you understand it." And with that, she captured your lips in a passionate kiss.
She poured all of herself into her touch, her love, her yearing for you, her all-consuming need for the beautiful girl in her arms. Tongue delved deep, intertwining with yours.
Breaking the kiss, she trailed her lips down the column of your throat, pressing open-mouthed kisses to the racing pulse she found there. She sucked lightly, leaving barely noticeable red marks from her teeth every time she bit a little harder than necessary.
At one point she felt your hands on her shoulders, forcing her to lean her back against the back of the jacuzzi, which she calmly allowed you to do, as if giving you a flag in your hands.
You spread her legs, bending them at the knees. At that moment you dazed gaze immediately rushes between her thighs.
Her flesh shines invitingly, that's what made you bite your lower lip, seeing such a strong and seemingly cold-blooded woman for the first time at your mercy. You were slowly saddle her leg to slide straight her older crotch. Her large palms immediately cover your round buttocks, pulling them even closer to her.
"Fuck... so good, sweetheart," she exhaled, watching as you looked straight into her eyes without a drop of shame, slowly starting to move, "really? When you're on the bottom, you look even better than usual." You said as you felt Jimin's hands force your hips to push against her own.
You cover your mouth with trembling hand, and Jimin does not take her excited gaze away from the place where their hips collide. This view really drove her crazy, making her want you even more, although it seemed like where else could it be?
"The hottest view I've ever had in my life," she said with a grin, she says greedily, licking her lips. She doesn't stop kneading the younger's soft buttocks and furiously rubbing her groin against her, catching your clumsy thrusts and half-strangled sobs.
You placed your palms on her stomach under the water, your hair sticks to her crimson cheeks, lips are dry, and you are both quite tense and focused on thrusting, because you both felt the approaching climax becoming more and more tangible.
You falls onto her chest with a drawn-out groan, continuing to twitch convulsively, and she herself presses her wet groin tightly against your folds, while she impatiently lifted your hips to increase the friction between them and prolong the pleasure spreading between her legs.
You both realized that you clearly didn't want to stop now, which is why, after a few minutes, your gazes met again, and you both understood each other without words.
Getting out of the hot tub as quickly as possible, you slowly wrapped your arms around her neck, jumping into her arms, wrapping your arms around her bare waist. Hands gripped your hips tightly as you both walked out of the bathroom, and despite the cold temperature contrast with the hot bath, you both made your way to the bed.
Jimin carefully laid you on your back, hovering over you, she grabs the soft roundness of your breasts with her palms, squeezes them through her own trembling and impatience, she sank lower, kisses your sunken stomach, inhaling the faint scent of your desire.
You don't hold back your moans when she does it especially well for you, but sometimes you react at all, and at other moments on the contrary, you felt everything too sensitively, not even understanding why your body reacted so much to her touches.
Your toes curl convulsively with pleasure. She looked up at you, her eyes dark and hazy with desire as she took in the exquisite sight of you arched against the pillows, your back bowed in pleasure.
"Quite the sight," she said, licking her lower lips, "Is it really me who has this influence on you?"
This question made you lift your head from the pillows, looking at her with a look that literally said "what-is-this-fucking-question", but despite this, you found the strength to answer with maximum restraint, despite the excess of feelings and emotions that were seething inside you, "and who else?"
She seemed to be satisfied with your answer, helped guide your legs up and over her shoulders, the soft skin of your inner thighs brushing against her cheeks, she leaned in closer, breath hot and heavy against your dripping core as she gazed up at your face, taking in every expression that flitted across your features.
"If you had said your boyfriend's name, I swear I would have killed you right now," with this words, she dove in, tongue delving deep into you, swirling and stroking your inner walls. She licked and suckled, her movements deliberate and focused on giving you the most of the pleasure she could ever give you.
Jimin's nose nestling against your mound as her tongue continued assault on your aching clit, the feeling of that stimulation made your body shudder.
"Fuck, baby..." She breathed, before diving back in again, rough surface of tongue delving deeper into your folds. She licked and sucked, her tongue curling to hit that spongy perfect spot inside you, "sweetheart, It feels like I can't get enough of you."
She could feel your body trembling, hear your breathy moans filling the room as she worked up you closer to your peak, your thighs tensing around her head, your body arching off the bed as the coil of tension in your core wound tighter and tighter.
Inner walls clamped down around the tip of her tongue as wave after wave of your orgasm crashed over you, your back arching sharply as you cried out for the last time.
The way your juices gushed, staining her chin turned her on even more, forcing her to obediently swallow every last drop.
With her lips moving up along the skin of your stomach, she chuckled, still feeling the tremors that seemed like they weren't going to leave your body.
"The most beautiful orgasm I've ever seen in my life," she giggled, licking the beads of sweat that were running down your wet body from your collarbone, skillfully catching each one with her tongue, "and it's clearly not the last."
It made you look at her questioningly, you saw the sly way she looked at you and it made you burn with anticipation. Not the last one?
"Are you up to something, Jimin?" you asked, your eyebrows raised in question, watching as instead of answering, she just smirked and moved away from you, taking her suitcase out from under the bed.
"You know, call me a freak, but I took something interesting on the trip with you," she said in a voice that was full of mystery, and in this voice you couldn’t even understand whether she was joking or speaking in all seriousness.
You didn't see what she was doing, you just heard a barely audible click, which made you wonder, is she fastening something? What is she doing?
But all the questions disappeared as soon as she straightened up, she started to slip the harness on, adjusting the straps until it fit snugly against her hips and thighs. The silicone of strap juttted out obscenely, bobbing with each movement as she positioned herself between your legs once more.
"A fucking strap-on, Yu Jimin?" You asked in surprise, despite the fact that this scenario clearly did not frighten or disgust you, "Are you seriously took it "with us" to Paris?"
Your surprised remarks made her laugh as she looked into your eyes defiantly, "why not? I couldn't pass up the chance to fuck you in a room with a view of the Eiffel Tower, it would be a waste of money."
Her answer made you snort playfully as she tightened the toy around her hips more, "come on, roll over for me, baby," Jimin instructed softly, her hands caressing your hips, "a little fun won't hurt, you know."
As you rolled over obediently, she helped arrange the pillows beneath your hips, lifting them to present yourself to her. She ran her hands over the globes of your ass, squeezing and kneading the firm flesh appreciatively.
She pressed the silicone tip against your entrance, rubbing it teasingly between your folds, wetting herself with your lubricant, hoping that this would allow her to slide into you more easily without causing you pain.
"Push back against me, angle your hips to take me deeper, it would be less painful for you, sweetheart," one hand slid around your hip to your front, finding your clit, rubbing slow, firm circles over the sensitive nub. The other hand gripped your hip, holding you steady as she started to thrust, building a steady rhythm.
She pulled out until just the tip remained before slamming back in, burying herself to the hilt. Her hips slapped against your cheeks with each powerful thrust, the lewd sound filling the room along with your needy moans.
She gradually picked up the pace as she felt she could move inside more freely, one hand sliding up your back to tangle in your hair. She tugged your head back, forcing your spine to arch even more as she pounded into you.
"You're looking so fuckable right now," she pushed her hips harder, with a particularly hard thrust, grinding the strap-on deep inside you as she continued to rub tight circles on your clit. She could feel your walls fluttering around the intrusion, your body instinctively trying to draw her in even deeper.
"You're looking so fuckable right now," she pushed her hips harder, with a particularly hard thrust, grinding the strap-on deep inside you as she continued to rub tight circles on your clit. She could feel your walls fluttering around the intrusion, your body instinctively trying to draw her in even deeper.
"Bet your boyfriend will never be able to do it the way I do it," she punctuated her possessive words with a sharp smack to your ass, watching as the flesh jiggled from the impact. "Fucking never," she rubbed the reddened skin soothingly before gripping your hips hard enough to leave bruises, pulling you back to meet her rough thrusts.
Jimin pushed you over, again, your body convulsing beneath hers as your orgasm crashed over you. She worked you through it, fucking you through each aftershock until you collapsed onto the bed, spent and panting.
She followed you down, covering your body with her own, her hips still rocking gently against yours as she caught her breath. She gazed at you adoringly, brushing your sweat-soaked hair back from your face, her fingers tracing the curves of your cheeks.
Jimin began to move once, rolling her hips in a slow rhythm, the strap-on sliding in and out of you with a lewd squelch. Her face mere inches from yours, allowing you to see every flicker of emotion and lust in her eyes.
"That's it, baby. Wrap those legs around my waist," she encouraged, her voice a low, seductive murmur. "Pull me in deeper, angel. I want to be as close to you, pretty girl."
As you obeyed, locking your ankles around her back, she leaned in, capturing your lips in a kiss, tongue delving into your mouth to intertwine with yours. She swallowed your moans and whimpers.
"That's my good girl," She praised breathlessly, breaking the kiss to gaze at you with hooded eyes dark with desire.
Your hands push her, forcing you to change positions, obviously, she did not offer any resistance to this, on the contrary, she encouraged it
"Sweetheart, you're so fucking eager for me, aren't you?" She purred, a wicked grin spreading across her face. "I love this side of you."
Her hands immediately went to your waist, gripping your hips possessively as she gazed up at you with a look of pure lust, hands up your sides, cupping your breasts, kneading the soft flesh as she admired your confidence. Her thumbs circled your nipples, teasing the sensitive buds till they pebbled under her touch.
"Ride me, baby," she encouraged, her voice low and thick with arousal. "I know you want to take all you need from me, do it, right now."
Jimin guided your hips with her hands, helping you set rhythm that was comfortable for you as you rose and fell on the strap-on. Her eyes were glued to where you both were joined, watching your cunt swallow her up again and again, your arousal coating the silicone.
"That's my good girl, bouncing on me so eagerly," she groaned, her head falling back against the pillow, "you're riding my cock like it was made for your pussy."
You felt your breathing quicken, how it became harder for you to breathe with every movement, because of how hard your body was shaking, she saw this and she continued to push herself, holding you by the hips.
With every push you were closer and closer to falling into the abyss, and the last push sent you straight there, with a loud groan, causing you to fall right onto her.
She wrapped her arms around you, holding you close as she rolled her hips, grinding against yours to prolong your climax. She gazed at you adoringly, brushing your sweat-soaked hair back from your face, her fingers tracing the curves of your cheeks.
Lips kissed your temple soothingly while the silicone toy was still inside you, clearly not planning on coming out yet. The way you breathed heavily into her neck made her chuckle, pulling you even closer.
"Sleep now, baby, you need to get some rest, I don't want my secretary to come to the meeting with shaking legs tomorrow.

[JK]  My first job was as an Assistant Producer for a video game company called Interplay in Irvine, CA. I had recently graduated from Boston University's School of Fine Arts with an MFA in Directing (I started out as a theatre nerd), but also had some limited coding experience and a passion for computers. It didn't look like I'd be able to make a living directing plays, so I decided to combine entertainment and technology (before it was cool!) and pitched myself to Brian Fargo, Interplay's CEO. He gave me my first break. I packed up and moved out west, and I've been producing games ever since.
Tumblr media
[JK] I loved my time at EA. I was there for almost a full decade, and learned a tremendous amount about game-making, and met the most talented and driven people, who I remain in touch with today. EA gave me many opportunities, and never stopped betting on me. I worked on The Sims for nearly 5 years, and then afterwards, I worked on console action games as part of the Visceral studio. I was the Creative Director for the 2007 game "The Simpsons", and was the Executive Producer and Creative Director for the 2009 game "Dante's Inferno".
Tumblr media
[JK] I haven't played in a long while, but I do recall that after the game shipped, my wife and I played the retail version for some time -- we created ourselves, and experimented with having a baby ahead of the actual birth of our son (in 2007). Even though I'd been part of the development team, and understood deeply how the simulation worked, I was still continually surprised at how "real" our Sims felt, and how accurate their responses were to having a baby in the house. It really felt like "us"!
Now for some of the development and lore related questions:
Tumblr media
[JK] So I ended up in the incredibly fortunate position of creating the shipping neighborhoods for The Sims 2, and recruiting a few teammates to help me as we went along.
Around the same time, we started using the Buy/Build tools to make houses we could save, and also bring them into each new build of the game (correcting for any bugs and incompatibilities). With the import tool, we could load Sims into these houses. In time, this "vanguard QA" process turned into a creative endeavor to define the "saved state" of the neighborhoods we would actually end up shipping with the game.
On playtesting & the leftover sims data on various lots:
Basically, we were in the late stages of development, and the Save Game functionality wasn't quite working. In order to test the game properly, you really needed to have a lot of assets, and a lot of Sims with histories (as if you'd been playing them for weeks) to test out everything the game had to offer. So I started defining a set of characters in a spreadsheet, with all their tuning variables, and worked with engineering to create an importer, so that with each new build, I could essentially "load" a kind of massive saved game, and quickly start playing and testing.
It was fairly organic, and as the game's functionality improved, so did our starter houses and families.
The thought process behind the creation of the iconic three neighborhoods:
I would not say it was particularly planned out ahead of time. We knew we needed a few saved houses to ship with the game; Sims 1, after all, had the Goth house, and Bob Newbie's house. But there wasn't necessarily a clear direction for what the neighborhood would be for Sims 2. We needed the game to be far enough along, so that the neighborhood could be a proper showcase for all the features in the game. With each new feature that turned alpha, I had a new tool in my toolbox, and I could expand the houses and families I was working on. Once we had the multi-neighborhood functionality, I decided we would not just have 1 starter neighborhood, but 3. With the Aging feature, Memories, a few wacky objects, plus a huge catalog of architectural and decorative content, I felt we had enough material for 3 truly distinct neighborhoods. And we added a couple of people to what became the "Neighborhood Team" around that time.
Later, when we created Strangetown, and eventually Veronaville, I believe we went back and changed Pleasantville to Pleasantview... because I liked the alliteration of "Verona-Ville", and there was no sense in having two "villes". (To this day, by the way, I still don't know whether to capitalize the "V" -- this was hotly debated at the time!)
Pleasantview:
Anyway, to answer your question, we of course started with Pleasantview. As I recall, we were not quite committed to multiple neighborhoods at first, and I think it was called Pleasantville initially, which was kind of a nod to Simsville... but without calling it Simsville, which was a little too on the nose. (There had also been an ill-fated game in development at Maxis at the time, called SimsVille, which was cancelled.) It's been suggested that Pleasantville referred to the movie, but I don't think I ever saw that movie, and we just felt that Pleasantville kind of captured the feeling of the game, and the relaxing, simple, idyllic world of the Sims.
Pleasantview started as a place to capture the aging feature, which was all new to The Sims 2. We knew we had toddlers, teens, and elders to play with, so we started making families that reflected the various stages of family life: the single mom with 3 young kids, the parents with two teens, the old rich guy with two young gold-diggers, etc. We also had a much greater variety of ethnicity to play with than Sims 1, and we had all new variables like sexual orientation and memories. All these things made for rich fodder for a great diversity of families. Then, once we had family trees, and tombstones that carried the actual data for the dead Sims, the doors really blew open. We started asking ourselves, "What if Bella and Mortimer Goth could be characters in Sims 2, but aged 25 years? And what if Cassandra is grown up? And what if Bella is actually missing, and that could be a fun mystery hanging over the whole game?" And then finally the "Big Life Moments" went into the game -- like weddings and birthdays -- and we could sort of tee these up in the Save Game, so that they would happen within the first few minutes of playing the families. This served both as a tutorial for the features, but also a great story-telling device.
Anyway, it all just flowed from there, as we started creating connections between families, relationships, histories, family trees, and stories that we could weave into the game, using only the simulation features that were available to us. It was a really fun and creative time, and we wrote all of the lore of Sims 2 within a couple of months, and then just brought it to life in the game.
Strangetown:
Strangetown was kind of a no-brainer. We needed an alternate neighborhood for all the paranormal stuff the Sims was known for: alien abduction, male pregnancy, science experiments, ghosts, etc. We had the desert terrain, which created a nice contrast to the lush Pleasantville, and gave it an obvious Area 51 vibe.
The fact that Veronaville is the oldest file probably reflects the fact that it was finished first, not that it was started first. That's my guess anyway. It was the simplest neighborhood, in many ways, and didn't have as much complexity in terms of features like staged big life moments, getting the abduction timing right, the alien DNA thing (which I think was somewhat buggy up until the end), etc.  So it's possible that we simply had Veronaville "in the can", while we put the last polish on Pleasantville (which was the first and most important neighborhood, in terms of making a good impression) and Strangeville (which was tricky technically).
Veronaville:
But my personal favorite was Veronaville. We had this cool Tudor style collection in the Build mode catalog, and I wanted to ship some houses that showed off those assets. We also had the teen thing going on in the aging game, plus a lot of romance features, as well as enemies. I have always been a Shakespeare buff since graduate school, so putting all that together, I got the idea that our third neighborhood should be a modern-day telling of the Romeo and Juliet story. It was Montys and Capps (instead of Montagues and Capulets), and it just kind of wrote itself. We had fun creating the past family trees, where everyone had died young because they kept killing each other off in the ongoing vendetta.
Tumblr media
[JK] You know, I have never seen The Lone Gunmen, and I don't remember making any kind of direct references with the Strangetown Sims, other than the general Area 51 theme, as you point out. Charles London helped out a lot with naming Sims, and I'm pretty sure we owe "Vidcund" and "Lazlo" to him ... though many team members pitched in creatively. He may have had something in mind, but for me, I largely went off of very generic and stereotypical ideas when crafting these neighborhoods. I kind of wanted them to be almost "groaners" ... they were meant to be tropes in every sense of the word. And then we snuck in some easter eggs. But largely, we were trying to create a completely original lore.
Tumblr media
[JK] Well, I think we kind of pushed it with The Sims 2, to be honest, and I remember getting a little blow-back about Bunny Broke, for example. Bunny Broke was the original name for Brandi Broke. Not everyone found that funny, as I recall, and I can understand that. It must have been changed before we shipped.
We also almost shipped the first outwardly gay Sims in those neighborhoods, which was bold for EA back in 2004. My recollection was that we had set up the Dreamers to be gay (Dirk and Darren), but I'm looking back now and see that's not the case. So I'm either remembering incorrectly (probably) or something changed during development.
In general we just did things that we found funny and clever, and we just pulled from all the tropes of American life.
Tumblr media
[JK] The alien abduction started in Sims 1, with a telescope object that was introduced in the "Livin' Large" expansion pack. That's when some of the wackier ideas got introduced into the Sims lore. That pack shipped just before I joined Maxis in 2001; when I got there, the team had shipped "House Party" and was underway on "Hot Date". So I couldn't tell you how the original idea came about, but The Sims had this 50's Americana vibe from the beginning, and UFOs kind of played right into that. So the alien abduction telescope was a no-brainer to bring back in Sims 2. The male pregnancy was a new twist on the Sims 1 telescope thing. It must have been that the new version (Sims 2) gave us the tech and flexibility to have male Sims become pregnant, so while this was turned "off" for the core game, we decided to take advantage of this and make a storyline out of it. I think this really grew out of the fact that we had aliens, and alien DNA, and so it was not complicated to pre-bake a baby that would come out as an alien when born. The idea of a bunch of guys living together, and then one gets abducted, impregnated, and then gives birth to an alien baby ... I mean, I think we just all thought that was hilarious, in a sit-com kind of way. Not sure there was much more to it than that. Everything usually came from the designers discovering ways to tweak and play with the tech, to get to funny outcomes.
Tumblr media
[JK] Possibly we were just testing the functionality of the Wants/Fears and Memories systems throughout development, and some stuff got left over.
Tumblr media
[JK] I can't remember, but that sounds like something we would have done! I'm pretty sure we laid the groundwork for more stories that we ended up delivering :) But The Sims 2 was a great foundation for a lot of continued lore that followed.

2023: A Year of Connection
Hi everyone!
As I told you last month, this month's "devlog" will be more like an end-of-year recap. For those of you who have known me a while, you'll know that I get ~in my feels~ and Very Nostalgic at the end of the year. And this year is no exception to that.
Looking back on this year, I realize I did much more than I thought I did. The year was filled with so many waves of uncertainty, burnout, and ruts, that I felt like I wasn't accomplishing anything in the moment. Now that the year has actually wrapped up, I can see that was Once Again my imposter syndrome whispering words of sweet nothings into my ears.
In fact, this year, I find that I did Way More than what I did last year. Crazy, considering how busy I remember 2022 being. Let's take a walk down memory lane, shall we?
Writing
If there is one thing this bitch did, it's fucking write LFMASODIJ. For all my complaining this year of routes taking too long, getting creative ruts, etc., I still wrote (what I consider) a Very Good amount. While I may not have hit my writing goals that I had set out, I still ended up writing around 255k words in total this year. Most of this being for Alaris, and some of it being for my dissertation (LOL) and other side games, like Intertwine and Jam Games.
This number also doesn't include deleted passages, edited passages, etc., so the amount I've spent writing, reviewing, etc. was Significant this year. Here's to hoping that momentum continues into next year and finishing the rest of Alaris!
Side Games
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Something completely unexpected, but that I'll forever be grateful for, was my decision(s) to join game jams this year. It all started with Otojam, a visual novel jam I'd wanted to join for a WHILE.
Intertwine was, without a doubt, one of my most memorable moments from this year. The friends I made/grew closer to during that jam. The people I connected with because of Intertwine. The people I got to work with. Everything about the experience surpassed my expectations, and Van and Summer 2023 will always hold a very special place in my heart because of it. Thank you to everyone who enjoyed that game. It was my first full game I ever released, and I couldn't have been more nervous about it (no literally. I wasn't sleeping and I was nauseous for a week before release).
Knowing there was no "revision" afterwards that I could hide behind or promise that there would be a "better"/"enhanced" version made the release terrifying. But the reception you all gave to it and support from so many friends made me feel so connected and grateful for the community.
The other three side projects were... well, Unexpected. LOL. Before these jams, I'd never wanted to work in team settings, mostly because I have Mad Imposter Syndrome, and I've always imagined I'd be dead weight in any given game dev team. My skills on writing, art, and/or coding alone aren't "exemplary" enough for me to think I, well, deserve to be on a team. But when a couple of short jams were being held by a friend, and teams were being made filled with other friends, I thought maybe I could help, even if it's just to QA/playtest. But I've walked away from each of these experiences learning so much from other talented people and with very dear friends.
Each of these side games truly tested my chops in terms of writing, narrative design, and coding. But I'm glad I challenged myself to take part in each of these experiences because I've walked away with so much more than I would've expected.
Alaris
Tumblr media
My Heart. My Soul. And at times, My Worst Enemy.
As much as I may have talked about how I Wasn't making progress on this baby. I, in fact, made A LOT of progress:
Art: 15 CGs, Updated Sprites, Kickstarter Artwork
Commissions: 20 BGs, Complete GUI, Personality/Affection Indicators, Editing, Voice Acted Lines, Complete OST (8 Tracks!)
Writing: Three Finished Routes
Shipped Kickstarter Merchandise
I'm going to be Real with you all. I'm not in the mood to recap everything for Alaris in the way I did with everything else LAFKMSDFOIJWOEI. Main reason being, I do that Every Month, and at this point, I would feel like I'm repeating myself for no reason. But let me tell you, when the Enhanced Demo comes out, you will see what I'm talking about with progress made. And I'm excited for the next year when I start getting to show things off (read: Demo Release and Route Beta Releases) now that assets have really come together ^^
I will say, thank you for sticking with this project for so long. It's easy to get bogged down in development when a project like this is as big as it is. It's just as easy to think that no one will care about this by the time I release, or people will start losing their patience with me as development goes on. So I'm forever grateful for how kind, supportive, and patient you all are, especially this year <3
Connections: The True Theme of 2023
If you've made it this far, I'm extremely impressed with you. And to reward you, I'll give you a moment of honesty and vulnerability which, to be frank, I Don't Do as a person and especially with my dev persona LMFAOO ((Before I do, let it be known, CW: mention of death, grief, alcoholism, chronic illness, suicidal thoughts))
Something I don't talk about much is that for all of 2022 and most of 2023, I was not in a good place mentally. At the beginning of 2022, I lost three very important people in my life back-to-back (I'm not exaggerating when I say back-to-back it was within 2 weeks, three separate deaths lol). That, on its own, was hard to deal with. But on top of that, I soon found myself having to cope/help with a family member's chronic illness and another family member's mental health (read: alcoholism, suicidality).
While this isn't a particularly unique situation, it was one that I found myself struggling with pretty severely on top of a pretty demanding work life. And it was a situation I found myself in until about midway through this year. Things have lightened up. I navigate a new life with some pretty severe triggers, and without the presence of some of my most loved ones. But overall, I at least feel like I can breathe and function, which is a state I didn't feel like I could exist in for over a year (and started to believe I may never exist in again).
Because of this new room in my life, I was able to connect with people again, in a more genuine way. I've grown closer to a lot of dev friends, to the point I consider some of them genuine close friends. And IRL, I've been able to reconnect with some of my dearest loved ones. The main reason I bring all of this up is because this year, I felt unbelievably connected to people, whether that was dev friends in the community, people who support my games, and IRL people.
And sometimes, when you interact with people solely online, it's easy to think they don't care as much about you as you do for them. But this has been disproven to me time and time again this year. And I've found myself in a state of appreciation for so many of the people I've been blessed to meet and befriend <3 I felt this especially so during some of the game jams, with the Secret Santa gift exchange, and with my recent Holiday Tree.
So thank you for everyone who has let me take up some space in their life. You literally Do Not Know how much it means to me and impacts me. This year, while I started it in a state of slightly hopelessness and numbness, I find myself ending it with gratitude and connection.
I hope the rest of this year (the very few couple of days we have left LOL) treats everyone well. I'm excited for how we get to start 2024 and what we'll get to experience together <3 Thank you again for the memories and support, love you all very dearly ^^

How does AI contribute to the automation of software testing?
AI-Based Testing Services
Tumblr media
In today’s modern rapid growing software development competitive market, ensuring and assuming quality while keeping up with fast release cycles is challenging and a vital part. That’s where AI-Based Testing comes into play and role. Artificial Intelligence - Ai is changing the software testing and checking process by making it a faster, smarter, and more accurate option to go for.
Smart Test Case Generation:
AI can automatically & on its own analyze past test results, user behavior, and application logic to generate relevant test cases with its implementation. This reduces the burden on QA teams, saves time, and assures that the key user and scenarios are always covered—something manual processes might overlook and forget.
Faster Bug Detection and Resolution:
AI-Based Testing leverages the machine learning algorithms to detect the defects more efficiently by identifying the code patterns and anomalies in the code behavior and structure. This proactive approach helps and assists the testers to catch the bugs as early as possible in the development cycle, improving product quality and reducing the cost of fixes.
Improved Test Maintenance:
Even a small or minor UI change can break or last the multiple test scripts in traditional automation with its adaptation. The AI models can adapt to these changes, self-heal broken scripts, and update them automatically. This makes test maintenance less time-consuming and more reliable.
Enhanced Test Coverage:
AI assures that broader test coverage and areas are covered by simulating the realtime-user interactions and analyzing vast present datasets into the scenario. It aids to identify the edge cases and potential issues that might not be obvious to human testers. As a result, AI-based testing significantly reduces the risk of bugs in production.
Predictive Analytics for Risk Management:
AI tools and its features can analyze the historical testing data to predict areas of the application or product crafted that are more likely to fail. This insight helps the teams to prioritize their testing efforts, optimize resources, and make better decisions throughout the development lifecycle.
Seamless Integration with Agile and DevOps:
AI-powered testing tools are built to support continuous testing environments. They integrate seamlessly with CI/CD pipelines, enabling faster feedback, quick deployment, and improved collaboration between development and QA teams.
Top technology providers like Suma Soft, IBM, Cyntexa, and Cignex lead the way in AI-Based Testing solutions. They offer and assist with customized services that help the businesses to automate down the Testing process, improve the software quality, and accelerate time to market with advanced AI-driven tools.

Am I the only one who realizes that game devs are making us PAY to playtest their games before full release?
Like, just by glancing in EA's direction, we are shown that big companies don't like spending money to make sure their games work... EA cut their QA department.
I keep up with Sims stuff, so I was there when all that shit started going down, right? So I also get the joy of watching inZoi breach the scene. The Sims needs competition. Yes, that isn't my point.
inZoi has released in early access. Krafton is not a small indie studio (and I know nothing of their QA dept. But I'm pointing out something I find strange - I also can't recall how many other bigger games have released an early access right now... but I'm worried about a new trend emerging) so I disagree with being made to pay to be a playtester (I have not and will not don't @ me).
Side bar: The drama around inZoi is fucking delicious 😋. You can really tell who EA has in their pockets right now and it's so embarrassing to watch! *cough* Gonz *cough*
Anyway... Big studios learned pretty quickly that they can take advantage of consumers (because consumers are fucking stupid... That's why the Americans had a few protection agencies) when they started that pre-order shit (no. It's not new... but the shit they get away with is much worse) As if it wasn't bad enough that consumers were paying big money for pre-orders of shitty games, BEFORE learning that the game was shit (FALLOUT 76 EYES ON YOU HOE). Yeah, Bethesda had to pay out a bit, but they still made off like fucking theives in the night AND WE LET THEM! AND WE KEEP LETTING THEM!
The pre-order bullshit wouldn't be that egregious if they GAVE US BACK OUR FUCKING DEMOS!!! I want to fucking test-run your game before I commit to a pre-order.
Which leads us to now... When corporations are so desperate to cut costs.... They cut their QA and make consumers pay to do it instead.

Officially out of my 90 day training period tomorrow and I honestly enjoy QA work immensely and I'm apparently exceling at it. I do think I'm hitting a steeper slope on what I know/what comes easy for me vs having to actually learn and understand new systems.
Just gotta not fuck up on the admin side of things and figure out how to study for the ISTQB certification test.

January — Tested by Up Tempo
Tumblr media
It’s January now. Everyone's back at home for the New Year's holidays, but I'm alone in the classroom filling out sheet music.
The day after the dance party, Otoya-kun and I were called to the principal's office.
Tumblr media
Shining Saotome: You understand why you've been summoned, correct?
Eek… I-I'm scared…
The principal is speaking normally…
His usual way of speech is commanding as it is, but this is on another level…
Otoya Ittoki: … Yes.
Shining Saotome: … If that's the case, I have nothing else to say. Pack up your bags and go back to your orphanage. You're not meant to be an idol.
Otoya Ittoki: … I refuse.
Otoya bluntly rejects his command.
Shining Saotome: Then should I expel her instead?
Otoya Ittoki: Ah…!
Shining Saotome: You flagrantly broke the no love rule. Normally, both of you would be expelled, but out of the kindness of my heart, I will let one of you remain.
Shining Saotome: However, it'll set a bad example if I let the both of you stay… You understand?
The principal curtly admonishes us.
Otoya Ittoki: I don't understand. Am I in the wrong?
Shining Saotome: … There are some things you can't do with just pure will and passion. This is the entertainment industry.
Shining Saotome: You can't survive in this industry without getting that through your skull.
Otoya Ittoki: How can you know if you never try!
Otoya Ittoki: I understand that it's a common belief that idols should belong to everyone and not just one person.
Otoya Ittoki: But is that the only appealing part to idols? A person who loves someone can shine!
Otoya Ittoki: There has to be people who just like my songs and don't care about my outward appearance or if I have a girlfriend or not!
Shining Saotome: Why are you so sure?
Otoya Ittoki: Because… I hate giving up before I try!
Shining Saotome: … That's too bad. You could've become a top idol with that burning passion of yours!
Haruka Nanami: Um… Do we have to be expelled?
Shining Saotome: That is the rule.
Otoya Ittoki: That's why I'm telling you that makes no sense!
Otoya Ittoki: I love her this much… I can't reach my dreams while lying to myself!
Otoya Ittoki: I… I've always been alone.
Otoya Ittoki: I've had friends, but I was so scared of being rejected by them… In some way, I've always tried to please people.
Otoya Ittoki: But I entered this academy and met her. I learned how to act like myself for once!
Otoya Ittoki: No matter how many stupid things I did, how sad I got, how much I ran ahead, whenever I looked behind me, she was always by my side.
Otoya Ittoki: She always looks at me and thinks of me.
Otoya Ittoki: She never asserts herself, but I was saved by her. I can sing confidently because she's with me.
Haruka Nanami: Otoya-kun… You saved me, too. You've always protected me.
Otoya Ittoki: I don't want to be alone anymore. We can overcome anything as long as we're together! She's important to me and I'll never let her go!
Otoya Ittoki: What's so wrong with loving someone? Why are you rejecting something that gives us so much courage and strength?
Shining Saotome: … You two are still young.
Otoya Ittoki: That has nothing to do with it! Why does age matter?
Shining Saotome: You don't know enough about the outside world. It might be great now, but you'll regret it down the line. That's why I ban romance here.
Haruka Nanami: … What happened to you?
Shining Saotome: … It has nothing to do with you.
Otoya Ittoki: I'm not convinced. Neither of us are leaving!
Shining Saotome: Wooow, I've never had anyone defy me this much in my life. Interesting.
Shining Saotome: Fine. Want to make a bet?
The principal smiles smugly.
Otoya Ittoki: A bet?
Otoya-kun's eyebrows perk up.
Shining Saotome: If you win the graduation audition, then I'll let you two go unquestioned.
Shining Saotome: However, there are two conditions.
Shining Saotome: If you fail the audition, then I'll ban her from ever getting a job in the entertainment industry. There will be no agency that will accept her.
Shining Saotome: I'll chase her to the depths of hell and crush her. The other condition…
Shining Saotome: Otoya, you must complete my lessons from hell. If you give up midway, I'll have you expelled.
Shining Saotome: Alternatively, if you were to announce to the entire student body that you've given up dating her, then I'll forgive you.
Shining Saotome: So, what is it? What will you do?
Otoya Ittoki: There's only one answer to that! I'll do your lessons and win the graduation audition!
Otoya-kun balls his hand into a fist and punches the air.
Shining Saotome: Hm! You've got guts. I would expect no less from my… my student!
Haruka Nanami: Principal, um…
Shining Saotome: What is it, Miss Nanami?
Select the Phrase!
Tumblr media
なんで普通に喋っているんですか? Why are you speaking normally? (+0 Love, +5 Music)
Haruka Nanami: If you can speak normally, why do you usually speak in an eccentric manner?
Shining Saotome: Ha ha ha! I'm acting the part!
Shining Saotome: In the entertainment industry, you are obligated to keep acting like the character that you've made in the beginning.
Otoya Ittoki: Old man, there's no way you acted like that ever since you debuted!
Shining Saotome: Ha ha ha!
Haruka Nanami: … So what is his real reason…?
Shining Saotome: Ha ha ha! I just like it!
Otoya Ittoki: … That's what I thought.
Haruka Nanami: Um, and one more thing… What should I do?
Shining Saotome: … Well then, let me give you a task!
Shining Saotome: You're not allowed to see Mr. Ittoki until you're finished. You can't watch him do his lessons either.
Haruka Nanami: … Understood.
Tumblr media
何か私にできることはないですか? Is there anything I can do? (+10 Love, +10 Music)
Haruka Nanami: If there's anything I can do, I'll do it. I don't like just watching from the sidelines. I want to try my best with Otoya-kun!
Shining Saotome: Hmm, I see. Then, I'll give you homework!
Shining Saotome: It'll be so much homework that even the most skilled composer would have to work on it over 20 hours per day for a month!
Shining Saotome: Try your best to finish it! I ban you two from meeting until you're done!
Haruka Nanami: … Understood.
Tumblr media
お手柔らかにお願いします。Please go easy on us. (+10 Love, +0 Music)
Shining Saotome: Ha ha ha!
Otoya Ittoki: That's fine, no problem. You better not go easy on me, old man!
Shining Saotome: Ha ha ha! That's the spirit!
Shining Saotome: Then I'll give YOU plenty of homework too!
Shining Saotome: It'll be so much work that your eyes will start spinning and you'll kneel down on the floor sobbing to yourself.
Shining Saotome: You're not allowed to meet the one you love until you finish!
Haruka Nanami: … Understood.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
And that is why at this very moment, I am grappling with the loads of homework the principal has assigned me.
I can't keep myself from thinking of Otoya-kun as I fill out these music sheets. I wonder what he's doing right now…
… I'm so curious. What are these lessons from hell all about?
… I'm halfway through my homework… I can finish this up by tomorrow if I try my best.
… I'll be fine. People don't die from being awake for over 30 hours.
The next morning, I manage to finish my homework and submit it to the principal.
Tumblr media
Shining Saotome: Wow! Well knock me over with a feather!
Haruka Nanami: … H-how is it?
Shining Saotome: You finished a month's worth of work in just seven days… Are you some kind of monster?
Ah… The principal is praising me…! I'm so happy!
Haruka Nanami: Thank you very much.
Shining Saotome: To think you would thank me for calling you a monster. You're a very, very strange little girl.
Haruka Nanami: … I'm often told that.
Shining Saotome: … I thought you would have the guts, considering you're dating Mr. Ittoki of all people.
Haruka Nanami: …?
Shining Saotome: He's just like me when I was younger.
Haruka Nanami: … So does that mean when Otoya-kun grows up, he'll become as large as you?
Shining Saotome: … That's not what I meant, but I can't deny that's a possibility.
Haruka Nanami: … Ohh…
I think he would look cool like that too…
Shining Saotome: We'll continue with the conversation! He's very hard headed about justice and he wears his heart on his sleeve.
Shining Saotome: You'll get into a lot of trouble if you keep sticking with a person like that.
Haruka Nanami: … Is that so?
Shining Saotome: …? Hmph, you are a strange one.
Haruka Nanami: At the very least, I'm following Otoya-kun willingly.
Haruka Nanami: I don't think it's a problem at all. I finished my homework quickly because I wanted to see him as soon as possible.
Shining Saotome: "In the name of love,” huh…
He murmurs to himself.
Haruka Nanami: … Huh?
Shining Saotome: It's nothing at all! I'll give you a reward for working so hard! Come with me…!
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Otoya Ittoki: Haaa, haaa…
Haruka Nanami: !!!
Otoya-kun is scaling the wall of the school building.
Shining Saotome: He doesn't have any safety rope either.
Haruka Nanami: I-is this a lesson? What is he…
Shining Saotome: Take a good look! This is the Shining Special Menu: Idol Trial by Fire!
Otoya Ittoki: Ku… ke… ko… ka… ki! Ke, ko, ka… ki, ku!
He's doing the vocal training that we did in acting class.
Shining Saotome: I'm having him climb while doing vocal training! His abdominal muscles will become rock solid!
Haruka Nanami: B-but if he slips, isn't he going to fall from a great height?
The building is three floors tall…
Shining Saotome: … That would be a very unfortunate accident.
Haruka Nanami: Accident? But… this shouldn't…
If he hits himself in the wrong place…
Haruka Nanami: …
Select the Phrase!
Tumblr media
やめさせる。Stop him. (+20 Love, +5 Music)
Haruka Nanami: Stop… Stop him right now.
Shining Saotome: Nope, nada, no way! You have to watch until the very end.
Tumblr media
見守る。Watch him. (+10 Love, +10 Music)
Shining Saotome: Watch him carefully. That is the result of a young man who picked a fight with the wrong principal. Reckless actions call for reckless consequences!
Haruka Nanami: …
I'm right here and yet I can't do anything but watch…
Tumblr media
訴える。Sue. (+0 Love, +0 Music)
Haruka Nanami: … I'll sue you.
I try to make the suggestion as firmly as I can. I don't think the me of a little while ago would have ever dreamed of saying this.
I might be becoming a little stronger because I'm with Otoya-kun.
Shining Saotome: Ha ha ha! Did you say something?
Haruka Nanami: If I sue… we might win…
Shining Saotome: Ha ha ha! You say funny things! Want to give it a shot?
Shining Saotome: You'll fail the moment you try, though.
Haruka Nanami: … I just wanted to say it.
Shining Saotome: Ha ha ha!
Someone like me can't ever win against the principal…
Tumblr media
Otoya Ittoki: To, ta, chi, tsu… tsu…
Out of breath, he squeezes out the syllables as he places hand after hand on the ledges of the wall.
Otoya-kun looks like he's in so much pain. This is no lesson!
Shining Saotome: There will also be exercise balls that will randomly drop from the roof's edge!
The moment the principal says that, exercise balls from the school gym drop from the roof.
One of them hits Otoya-kun, knocking him off the second story window.
Otoya Ittoki: AAAH!
Haruka Nanami: Otoya-kun!
I try to run for him but the principal fiercely grips my hand and pulls me back.
Shining Saotome: It's a-okay! He fell into the bushes, so he survived!
Haruka Nanami: But wouldn't he be severely injured if he fell from that height regardless?!
Shining Saotome: Ha ha ha! That's part of the trial!
Otoya Ittoki: Damn it! I have to start from the beginning again?!
Otoya-kun punches the floor, gritting his teeth.
He's covered in scratches and some blood seeps from a scratch from his forehead.
Haruka Nanami: Again…? He's fallen multiple times?
Shining Saotome: Ha ha ha! He can't clear his lesson until he reaches the top of the building! He has failed a total of 48 times!
Haruka Nanami: That many…? He's been keeping up this entire time?
Shining Saotome: Ha ha ha! On top of that, it's not just giant balls that get dropped!
Haruka Nanami: Huh?
Shining Saotome: Ha ha ha! Today's super special surprise is sea slugs!
Whump whump whump!
Countless sea slugs fall from the roof.
Otoya Ittoki: Waaah! What the heck is this?! They're so slimy! They squelch! They squelch…!
Shining Saotome: Ha ha ha! I'm glad he's enjoying himself.
Haruka Nanami: … He's not enjoying himself at all! Also, there's no way he can climb the wall if it gets covered in so much slime!
Shining Saotome: … Oh? Did you not get the joke?
The principal tilts his head in confusion.
Shining Saotome: I'm sorry, it seems like the joke flew over your head. I'd call this a generation gap!
Haruka Nanami: … Why are you doing this? I can't do anything to help…!
I hate just watching.
Haruka Nanami: I want to climb the wall with Otoya-kun!
Shining Saotome: Why? What did you just say?
Haruka Nanami: I'll climb, too! I'm just as responsible as him, so let me take on half of his burden!
Shining Saotome: Ohh! This is a beautiful friendship,  NON love indeed!
The principal clapped his hands together gleefully.
Shining Saotome: What will you do, Mr. Ittoki? Will you have her help you? I don't mind!
Otoya Ittoki: Don't come here!
Haruka Nanami: But…
Otoya Ittoki: This is my fight, so don't butt in!
He starts climbing the wall again.
Haruka Nanami: …
Shining Saotome: … Do you hate that you can only watch?
Haruka Nanami: …?!
He's speaking normally again…
Shining Saotome: He's just that sort of person. He'll probably keep fighting on his own again and again in the future too.
Shining Saotome: He doesn't understand how people around him feel as they watch him. He'll keep pushing farther and farther ahead and leave them behind.
Haruka Nanami: … If he leaves me behind, I'll just keep chasing after him.
Shining Saotome: …
Haruka Nanami: We're aiming for the same goal.
Shining Saotome: … Can you stand by your word even if you are the one who is getting in the way of that goal?
Haruka Nanami: Huh…?
Shining Saotome: How many fans do you think he’ll amass if he already has a girlfriend when he debuts? There's no way he can hide the fact he's dating, either.
Shining Saotome: Even if he were to get loyal fans after he debuts, that won't be good for business. It doesn't matter how good he is in other areas.
Haruka Nanami: …
Shining Saotome: I'll give you one more chance. Cut him off here.
Shining Saotome: If you do that, he won't have to go through my lessons, and you two won't have to suffer when you debut.
Haruka Nanami: …
Am I getting in the way of Otoya-kun's dream…?
Shining Saotome: I can see that you two are going to suffer. If you don't have the determination to get through one or two of these trials, you won't make it!
Shining Saotome: You'll just be crushed, and I have no need for any talents like that.
Haruka Nanami: …
I walk towards Otoya-kun.
Haruka Nanami: Otoya-kun…
Otoya Ittoki: I won't listen to you!
Did he hear what the principal was telling me?
Haruka Nanami: But…
Otoya Ittoki: I won't give up under any circumstances…!
Haruka Nanami: But if you make one mistake here, you'll die.
Otoya Ittoki: I won't die. There's no way I'll die.
Haruka Nanami: How are you so sure?
Otoya Ittoki: Do you think I'll go die and leave you all by yourself? Even if I were told that I had only one month left to live, I'll keep living!
Otoya Ittoki: I can't lose because you're by my side!
Haruka Nanami: …
I have no idea what words I should say to him.
Otoya Ittoki: Damn, my fingers slipped… Ah!
Thump!
He's fallen into the bushes again. He has fallen so many times and he's scratched up from head to toe. It's so painful just to look at him.
I run towards him and hold up his torso.

Otoya Ittoki: I won't quit!
Otoya-kun grips my arm.
Haruka Nanami: Why…? You're in such bad shape. I can't stand to see you like this.
Otoya Ittoki: Even so, I can't quit. I love you.
Otoya Ittoki: I'm spurred on. I have to keep moving forward because I love you. I'm living off the feelings I have for you!
Otoya Ittoki: I can't stop. If I stopped loving you… I'd surely die.
Otoya Ittoki: I can keep trying because you're here with me. I can't keep going if you're not here.
Haruka Nanami: …

Otoya Ittoki: It's because you're here…
His scratched up hand grips mine.
Haruka Nanami: Huh…?
He puts my hand on his cheek.
Otoya Ittoki: I want to do my best. That's all I'm thinking right now!
Tumblr media
・・・今ならまだ・・・We can quit while we're ahead… (+5 Love, +0 Music)
Haruka Nanami: If we say that we are breaking up, we can end your suffering…
I don't want to break up with him, but I don't want him to get hurt any more.
Otoya Ittoki: I won't do that. I will never break the bond we have with each other!
He staggers to his feet.
Haruka Nanami: But at what cost…?
Otoya Ittoki: This is nothing to me! Losing you would be far more painful!
Otoya Ittoki: It's useless. I can't live without you!
Haruka Nanami: Why…? Why are you trying so hard?
Tumblr media
Otoya Ittoki: I can do anything as long as I want to keep being with you, and that's why none of this is painful for me!
He stands up with all his strength.
I was the same… I kept thinking of how much I wanted to see Otoya-kun even when I was faced with all that work.
I did it all with that feeling in mind and managed to finish it.
We share the same feelings…
Haruka Nanami: I get it. I won't stop you! That's why I won't cheer you on from here!
Otoya Ittoki: Huh…?
Haruka Nanami: I'll wait for you on the rooftop! Climb for me!
Otoya Ittoki: Yeah! Leave it up to me!
Otoya-kun starts climbing the wall yet again.
Shining Saotome: … He's so passionate. If I was as passionate as him when I was his age…
Shining Saotome: … No. There's no point in thinking about that. I'll just watch them from afar.
Shining Saotome: That's the least I can do to make up for my mistake…
I reach the rooftop.
Otoya Ittoki: Just… a little more…
Otoya-kun has made it to the third floor window.
… Do your best!
Otoya Ittoki: I-I made it! Haa, haa, haa…
He finally manages to grab the edge of the rooftop fence.

Once he reaches the rooftop, he flops onto the floor and looks up at the sky.
Otoya Ittoki: Hey, see? I did it!
Haruka Nanami: Yeah, it was amazing…!
Tumblr media
抱きしめる。Hug him. (+20 Love, +0 Music)
Otoya Ittoki: Huh?! Haruka?
Haruka Nanami: … Thank goodness. I'm so glad you're okay.
Otoya Ittoki: I told you that it'll be alright! I promised you that I'd never leave your side!
He rubs my head.
Tumblr media
手当する。Tend his wounds. (+5 Love, +0 Music)
Without a word, I pour antiseptic solution on Otoya-kun's body.
Otoya Ittoki: O-ow! That stings!
Haruka Nanami: … This is punishment for pushing yourself too hard… I really was worried about you…
Otoya Ittoki: I'm sorry.
He pats me on the head.
Tumblr media
Shining Saotome: I've lost this round, but I won't let you win next time! You better be ready!
The principal has flown up to the rooftop with jet boots.
He then continues flying towards his office.
The sound of glass shattering rings out from the direction of his office. He probably slammed straight through the window without opening it.
Otoya-kun and I turn to look at each other.
Otoya Ittoki: The last line the principal said sounded like something a loser would say!
Haruka Nanami: … I thought so too.
Otoya Ittoki: Well, I won't lose no matter what comes at me! I'm invincible as long as you're with me!

It'll be okay!

Ringo Tsukimiya: Are you close to finishing your song? If you haven't made a rough version by now, you'll be in trouble!
Ringo Tsukimiya: Ahh, I just remembered. If you get stuck, you should try recording your song as you play it and then give it a listen.
Ringo Tsukimiya: You might start understanding what you can do to improve it. Actually, how about playing it here while you have the chance?
Ringo Tsukimiya: I'm a teacher, after all. I can give you advice if I hear how it sounds. Let me have a listen!
Ringo Tsukimiya: Okay, let's go! Are you ready? Start!

Otoya Ittoki: I will never give you up, so I want you to keep believing in me. I'm sure you can make it because you always keep trying your best.

Week 6: No Rebus Puzzle, Topic 3 and Consultation
Key Testing Methods, QA Practices, and Project Progress
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Last August 17, 2024, no rebus puzzle to start off the session this time, but the subject matter was just as engaging. Our focus was on ensuring that software not only works but also meets high standards of reliability and usability. Testing is at the heart of this process, and our discussion began with two main types of testing Black Box Testing and White Box Testing. The Black Box Testing is all about functionality and the White Box Testing digs into the internal workings of the software. Both approaches have their strenghts, and a balanced combination helps ensure robust software. we also tackled about the regession testing, which is crucial after making changes to a software system, keeping this process efficient is where test automation comes in. Automating tests saves time and reduce human error. It's especially useful when projects grow larger, and more functionality needs to be tested repeatedly. We also discussed about Quality Assurance practices. QA isn't just about testing—it's a holistic approach to maintaining software quality throughout its development lifecycle. This includes adhering to coding standards, conducting peer reviews, and tracking issues as early as possible.
One of the highlights of the session is seen in the photos above, it was learning about User Acceptance Testing (UAT), particularly John Brook's Method. This method focuses on measuring the usability of software not only functions correctly but is also intuitive and easy to use.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Of course, after our discussion we are group into 6 groups and I am teamed up with Apus, Calalin, Diaz, Gonzales and Mahinay. We have our assessment or class activity every after our discussion. Engr. Suasola showed us 5 items on what to improved about the given UI and for the last item it was where we applied the John Brooke's Method and I am the one who was tasked to do that part. As a group, I can say that we did pretty well and everyone contributed to the answers we came up with.
Tumblr media
Ending the class with a groufie with Engr. Suasola <3
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Earlier, today, August 20, 2024, we had a consultation with Engr. Suasola regarding the revisions from our last consulation. the citation of the Appendix in the Requirements Gathering section was approved! However, we still have a few tweaks to make, specifically in our Data Normalization. During the consulation, we were also reminded of our deliverables before midterm and were informed that our presentation after midterm will be crucial in demonstration our progress. It's a lot to work on, but we're on the right track!
It's clear that testing and quality assurance are more than just final steps in the software development process. They are continuous efforts that start early and are vital to delivering a successful product. I found the exploration of different testing methods enlightening, and it deepened my understanding of how comprehensive testing strategies lead to higher-quality software.
With our project work moving forward, it's a busy but rewarding time in SDE. We're to refine our revisions and prepare for what's next!

It's always interesting to learn new things about RE and game development as a whole from you, and it's made me want to start to research about it too, but I don't know where to exactly start and it all seems a little overwhelming...
So are there any specific websites that go in depth about game design (specifically REs) ?
i'm sorry, friend, i don't know of any concentrated sources that you can sort of read through like an encyclopedia to learn in large chunks.
my knowledge is an accumulation over many, many years following many, many sources. a lot of my information comes directly from actual game devs -- like, david gaider was a huge source of good information back when he was still working at bioware, and i learned a lot just from following him on twitter. it was also through twitter that i was able to talk to john johanas, and dear god that guy is a wealth of information if you ever get the chance to actually sit down and talk to him. so definitely follow devs and listen to devs.
video game youtubers/streamers who have actually worked in the industry, even if they were only doing QA testing, are good sources, too. castle superbeast is a podcast that i can't recommend enough. but they'll never just have an episode that i can link you to that's like "this is where they discuss how games are made." it's sprinkled in throughout their stuff bit by bit as they talk about games.
my brother's a software engineer, so i know a lot from him. so if you have anyone in your life who works a job like that, ask them.
jason schreier is an excellent source, so maybe read some of his books.
and every once in a while, game studios will put out videos with like... behind the curtain looks at how the games get made. and they're all PR attempts, but there's insights there, too. i remember tango put out a LOT of those when marketing the evil within. supergiant is another studio who puts out videos like that.
for RE specifically, bawkbasoup has an encyclopedia in his head about RE. he's never taught me anything that i, personally, didn't already know, but like. he knows his stuff.
like, if you have a passion for video games, and this is something that you're interested in, the information is out there. it's just not easily accessible. it takes some dedication to access.

Looking for for new, Round 2, QA testers
Want to be a QA tester for some unique and high-quality mycology supplies? I am opening applications to join my QA tester group! I’m an academic-minded, queer myco mentor with an educational focus. Round 1 testers need not apply. Four spots open for round
What is the MCX QA testers group?
Since diving into LC creation and supply, I’ve implemented a quality assurance tester group for my LCs and swabs. My QA tests are vital for me to learn and understand how various mycological pals use my LCs on different grains, agar recipes, and substrates. My goal is to ensure healthy colonization, delivery of quality housing products (syringes, needles, generic slaps, etc). While also ensuring healthy research outcomes. Use grains and agar you’re comfortable with, we learn together. Note: LCs might appear odd on agar initially, give it a few days for normal white and healthy growth.
What you get if accepted:
1. During your assigned qa round, you’ll receive a collection of my newest specimens that I’m holding for release until round feedback is gathered over a few months.
2. Round 2 will include ghidora, bluey vuitton, jack frost, and albino talis
3. I cover shipping.
4. Lifetime* partreon-level discount prices on my regular supplies
(*unless you fuck up*)
5. Invite to my (currently private) mycocommunity discord server and special roles within. We have a few dozen members now that share their love of mycology, biology, general science, art, food, trauma healing, mycolibrary, community connection of open minded folks who want to be supportive of one’s journey
Requirements:
1. USA address
2. Use LCs within 1-2 weeks of receipt
3. Preferably agar test before grain inoculation. We can discuss.
4. Minimum usage: 2-3mL per qt of grain, 1mL cc’s to be used for droplet plate inoculation
5. Join private mycodiscord for updates and sharing experiences
6. Minimum Bi-weekly feedback on research efforts and progress or barriers within our mcx mycocommunity discord
7. Tag me on social media when showcasing my LCs. For contamination issues, inform me on discord for assessment.
**Note:** The return address wont be my actual address. Don’t send thank you cards or gifts to that address.

“Progress forwards to live what you could be; regress backwards to think of what you could always be.”
Senior high school, something very memorable to say the least. When I started 11th grade I was basically a freshly opened can of a hot mess waiting to happen. Of course, it had been marinating for a while after everything, especially the pandemic, just waiting to pop. I had expected it to be my worst year. However, I was proven quite wrong. Although it was incredibly hard to adjust, I had met an array of new people who had helped me get out of my metaphorical can slowly so that it won’t spill as much. Of course, i would not be here with the people here during my senior high school yea. They have all helped me in some way shape or form.
In my junior years I was always described as the silent weird kid who was always staring out the window. In a way, that is still true, but I guess I feel like I have a better chance of actually communicating. It was tough, I had not received good grades two years before that and almost flunked out of school due to my grades. I pretty much got my first “75” during the pandemic. It was very scary, and it wasn’t something that I want to go through again, but if I knew that it would get me here, I wouldn’t have it any other way.
I made friends during the 11th grade, which, in all honesty, was something I did not expect. I had been quite alone for a bit, so that felt pretty new to me. However, there will always be an exception to the calm parts of the neurological backflips happening in my head at the time. There were people who very much tested my patience and my ability to shut my mouth. These very same people were obnoxious, loud, and think they’re cool for destroying the peace of every fiber of my tangible being.
As time went on I feel myself see moments of improvement which I had to hoped to see in me before. I had attained knowledge that I could have never understood if it were not to the teachers and other students there who had made this journey easier. I know within myself, I could not have made it at the time, but I did. I am now in grade 12.
Currently deployed for work immersion I have been doing tasks and learning about certain jobs. I am assigned in the QA (Quality Assurance) department and everyone is nice there. I now have a brief overview of how office jobs work and function. I think that is a very good progress when comparing it to what I would have been able to do at a time when I thought I was gonna stop progressing.
It was and still is not easy. However, I make with what I have, and I think that’s enough to pat myself in the back despite all the bad thoughts.
