People have said that high school sweethearts would not make it past high school, and some of them were right. But you and Schlatt were the exception. Hah, suck on that, other ex high school sweethearts.

The two of you met during your sophomore year, having shared the same History class. Schlatt sat in the row behind you and occasionally, the two of you would exchange glances and go on with your day, because high schoolers are awkward like that. You started seeing him more when one of your friends started dating one of his friends, causing you to get to know him through mutual friends.

And eventually, the two of you got closer. A lot closer. You sat on the bleachers at his baseball games, stayed up late with him while he edited his videos, and was his date to prom. That night under the poorly decorated stars in the gym while the DJ played the weirdest tracks you’ve ever heard was one of your core memories. And then the two of you started dating and no one was surprised. You two made it way too obvious how much you liked each other.

When Schlatt started doing Youtube full time, you said that you wanted to be kept out of the spotlight and he agreed with you. He kept his real life and online life separate- only letting the closest friends know that he was dating someone. Of course, those same close friends were invited to the small ‘friends and family only’ wedding you two had a few years later. Another core memory that he has framed and placed on his setup that’s out of view from the camera.

Schlatt went on hiatus when you were pregnant with your daughter. He had scheduled his already made videos to upload at a certain time and was completely offline from the internet after that, being by your side 24/7. The hiatus continued on for a few months after your daughter was born and then the internet started speculating where he disappeared to, because this was far from his usual sparse uploads.

Your late night talks had delved into how to continue streaming without revealing you and the baby. And you decided to fill his viewers in on your existence. He was definitely shocked, but ultimately it’s your decision and that was final.

“Schlatt, who’s with you today?” Ted asked on the latest Chuckle Sandwich episode, waving at you through the camera. “Audio listeners - love you to death - Schlatt has a woman with him.” Of course, Ted knew who you were- having been invited to your small wedding years prior. He was just playing it up for the camera.

You waved back at Ted, smiling as Schlatt grabbed his mic and talked into it. “My wife.”

“Your wife?” Tucker asked incredulously and Schlatt nodded, smiling widely as he pulled you into his side. “My wife! Say hi, toots.”

“Hi, Ted, Tucker.” You beamed, feeling anxiety and excitement mix into one intense feeling. You heard the baby monitor suddenly crackle to life with a loud cry, and you sighed softly, removing your headphones and began to get up when Schlatt stopped you, getting up himself. “I’ll get her. You sit tight, babe.” He whispered to you and made a hand motion to the camera to continue the session without him. You slid the headphones back on, keeping one ear open to listen to what was happening on the monitor.

The three of you continued on making random conversations about all sorts of stuff until Schlatt came back. He kissed you on the top of your head and sat back down beside you.

“How is she?” You asked, looking at him.

“She’s good, just needed a bottle.”

“Ah, okay.”

That small conversation between the two of you was left unedited and Twitter was on fire when the episode came out, because not only was he married, he also had a baby! The two of you were trending for a good while, and you are well loved by his viewers.

You were so glad the two of you gave it a chance back in high school, and you couldn’t think of anyone else to share this life with. Schlatt was your soulmate and you were his.

Do you think the recording of TIT (bc it has to be getting recorded at some point tbh) will be a dvd release or a youtube upload this time around? I forget if Dan said any specific reason why WAD ended up being free on YT, but I feel like after setting that precedent, there's almost no going back. Ofc, there is the precedent of the two actual dnp tours being dvd or YT Red/Premium releases, but do you have any thoughts?

oh anon i'm so happy you asked. bc i did so much research for this about WAD before we knew what would happen with it.

so. the problem with dvds is storage capacity. with TIT being 2 hours, that is a lot of footage to put on a singular dvd at the resolution that they'd currently want to. dvds come in 2 sizes: 4.7 gb and 8.5 gb. you can fit a 2 hr movie onto a single layer (4.7) but any longer, and you need the double layer (8.5). thus, TIT would have to be on a double layer, unless they don't plan on including anything else except the 2 hr recording. a dvd can't play high resolution footage, only standard definition (480p). so there'd be a picture quality difference.

this is where blu-rays come in. they can store and play 1080p footage. they also hold significantly more space (a single layer blu-ray can hold 25 gb, a double 50 gb). part of the trade-off here though is that higher resolution footage takes up more space. a single layer can store 2.25 hr of HD video; a double 3 hrs. they could get away with a single layer, and that includes room for 2 hours of standard definition BTS video.

problem is, not everyone has a blu-ray player (not like everyone has dvd players either). but the main issue is that DVD players won't play blu-rays--and this includes disc drives for laptops and PC's. you need a special external driver to do it.

we'd be wading into contracts and companies being interested in selling physical copies, and given how discs in general are sort of becoming obsolete, i would be surprised if they put it on disc.

our next option would be streaming. i don't really see them wanting to attach it to any larger corporation--especially given they're physical media guys. the thought of just losing something simply because a streaming service doesn't want it anymore, or the company goes under, would be enough to keep them away from that.

people pitched the idea of nebula or dropout, but i don't see them posting a single video on nebula and then nothing else. and since i don't see them as patreon guys, i don't think they'd want to do incentives for subscription style stuff. dropout would be more of a possibility, but they'd probably want to do more with dropout in terms of guest starring before entirely handing their baby over, y'know? like hank did a whole d20 season before he did his special there.

i do think they might just upload it to dapg. genuinely. because of what happened with WAD--both rights wise and precedent wise. but also, could be extremely good for them if they can actually monetize it. their longer videos on dapg do very well, and since WAD happened before TIT was fully ironed out, i bet they've included the prospect of doing so into their scripting, so it has the ability to be monetized on their channel. plus, the desire to make it accessible for everyone (even though they are trying to tour in more countries). depending on how that goes, it may be delayed in being released online.

How to tell Arcane leaks apart from trailers and teasers

There are NO LEAKS in this post, so please read.

In summary: to identify leaks, look out for 1): watermarks, 2): unfinished animation rendering, and 3): poor image and video quality.

Tumblr isn't too bad right now, but Twitter is rife with clips and screenshots of the leaks, and YouTube has full uploaded leaked clips. These leaks show up on YouTube if you even search just "Arcane" or "Arcane season 2."

Here is a list of legitimate trailers and teasers posted by Netflix and Riot. These are not leaks and the clips and gifsets about them on Tumblr are from legitimate sources:

There's some confusion in the tag about what constitutes a leak and what is simply a trailer or a teaser shared legitimately by Netflix and/or Riot. This is understandable because the first 5 episodes of season 2 leaked at the same time that Netflix and Riot were accelerating season 2's marketing.

Most people in the fandom do not want to be spoiled at all, and so are not excited about the leaks. Most people don't want clips, screengrabs, or even vague allusions to the leaks in the Arcane tag. They most certainly do not want spoilers sent to their inboxes, either. (DO NOT DO THIS. Don't be that person either on anon or off. Goodness gracious.)

Still, there is always going to be someone who posts the leaks in the fandom tags. However, there are many more people who make gifs and posts about the legitimate season 2 teasers and trailers. There are still almost 3 months until the first episodes drop, so we will be dealing with dodging these leaks for a long while.

Here's how to tell what's a leak and what isn't:

1): Watermarks

From what I've put together, someone at one of the dubbing studios leaked the first 5 episodes of Arcane season 2. In their entirety. However, these leaks were not production ready. The leaks are also completely watermarked and have a big running timestamp ticking throughout the run of all of the episodes.

This is difficult to visualize beyond what little Riot shared about the production of season 1 in Bridging the Rift. So I will post a NON-SPOILER screengrab of the title card of one of the leaks I took (just a few seconds before I realized I was looking at a leaked episode).

Below is a screenshot I took of nothing more than the Arcane title card from the season 2 title sequence. This is not a spoiler! Please use this example to help you tell a legitimate teaser from a leak:

Can you imagine watching 5 EPISODES of Arcane with these watermarks all over every single frame??? I'm begging you, do not subject yourself to watching Arcane in this manner, no matter how bad you want to know what happens in season 2.

These watermarks are practically impossible to remove, especially from every single frame. So any visuals you see that look clean, production-ready, and gorgeous from season 2 are definitely from trailers or teasers, not from leaks.

Here's a screengrab from the recent sneak peek posted by Netflix/Riot for comparison:

No watermarks, the animation is finished, the video quality is high. This is a legitimate teaser and not a leak.

2): Unfinished animation render

You don't need the full finished painterly animation from Fortiche to complete a dub. You just need basic character models and their movements, along with the finished script.

Much of the leaks are just this: the full complete scenes from every episode, character models are moving as they will in the final edit, the episodes' composition is complete, but the animation is unfinished and doesn't have the final painterly polish yet.

Below is a NON-SPOILER screengrab from Riot/Fortiche showing the animation process. This screenshot is from season 1 episode 5 during Vi and Sevika's first fight and shows the stage of completeness of the animation that most of the leaks show:

Notice that the scene is comprehensible, but the lighting effects and painting-like style of Fortiche is missing. It looks... okay, but unfinished-looking compared to what we know Arcane looks like. A big chunk of the 5 leaked season 2 episodes look like this.

However, I will say that I accidentally watched the first few seconds of the leaked season 2 episode 1 before it registered in my brain that I was watching a leak. There were watermarks like in my first point above, but for this particular scene, the animation was finished, and it seems like the sound mixing was finished too.

So it is possible that there are leaks floating around with gorgeous finished-looking animation. So look out for watermarks no matter what, and also -

3.): Poor image and video quality

When people say that the leaks are "potato quality," they mean it. On top of the watermarks and big timestamp across the runtime of all the 5 leaked episodes, the video quality is also pretty bad, certainly less than 360p.

The legitimate teasers and trailers and screenshots released by Netflix and Riot are all of very high video quality.

A note on early leaks

There are some leaks from earlier this year pertaining to Vi and Caitlyn's story that came from the Annecy Animation Festival Arcane panel. These leaks weren't treated as seriously because no full clips leaked, and they were mainly high-level summaries of season 2 plot points.

Those leaks are now difficult to tell apart from text posts about these new complete episode leaks. There are a lot of text posts out there about Vi and Caitlyn's story in particular as well as extremely spoilery text posts about certain characters who were in the Council tower at the end of season 1 episode 9.

There isn't much we can do about text posts

In the end, Tumblr has been pretty okay with keeping visuals from leaks out of the tag. I still see a potato-quality screenshot from the leaks every now and then. But most pervasive is people talking about spoilers from the leaks in text posts. These posts are tagged with the fandom tags and spoilers are only tagged sometimes.

Often, if the person is only vaguely alluding to the spoilers, they won't tag spoilers at all because they think being vague is enough. It usually isn't, because the post is still alluding to events outside of season 1 and the teasers/trailers.

The only thing we can do to completely avoid these posts is to not only block "spoiler" or "leak" related tags, but to avoid and block the Arcane fandom tags altogether, which is a shame.

Please, if you're someone who saw the leaks and wants to post about them, all I can ask is to at least tag your spoilers: "arcane spoilers", "arcane season 2 spoilers", "arcane s2 spoilers", "arcane leaks", or even just "spoiler", "spoilers", or "leaks" is better than nothing.

Even better would be to simply avoid using the word Arcane in the post and not tag the post with any fandom tags at all, keeping the post relegated to your blog with as little context as possible. This includes avoiding using the correctly-spelled character names in the post as well. Until the episodes drop in November, this is the most polite way I can think of to talk about the leaks and spoilers on your blog.

Cafae Latte // The Video Game #3

As I said, I'm back with an update after finishing with the Title Screen! Like I did in my last post, have a bit of a TLDR.

What I've gotten done:

Added CM to the credits screen (Of course)

Added strings to the sign easter egg

Added Background music (with a music slider)

Added button sound effects (with an sfx slider)

Made Play button interactable (with the panel that follows)

Main thing I want to be doing next:

Make the 'Choose' panel buttons interactable

Alright!! First thing I'll post a screenshot of is the updated credits scene. CM is of course the creator of the series, which is up there with my favourite shows of all time and I don't think I'll ever get enough of it. Thanks to CM for being such an amazing person and creator <3

I used BeepBox to remake a song used in the end credits of some of the Cafae Latte seasons on YouTube, I'm quite proud of myself for it as I had done it by ear! I think I got quite close? I had to cut the audio a bit short since it wouldn't allow me to upload it. This will be playing throughout the game with a volume slider in the options panel.

(I dreaded doing the audio so much, mainly the controlling it in the game part but I'm very happy with myself for finishing it, especially since now I can continue working on designing more and continuing on with the game).

Now I can't upload the button SFX for whatever reason but I ended up using just a plain high pitch beep, I don't think I like it much but I'm not sure what else I could do for it at this moment, I'll most likely have a look elsewhere for some kind of inspiration, or maybe use BeepBox again so that the SFX matches the music more.

The Play button, finally, is interactable! I'm having it go to a now fully designed version of a concept I posted in #2 of a 'Choose 1 or 2' type screen, as you can see below! (Options to either create a character or play *as* a character, oc or otherwise)

Weirdly I don't particularly feel like I have much else to say on what I've done recently. It's 3:34AM. Must finish this before giving in to sleep!

I've started working more on the select character part of the next part of the game, aka, I've started designing the selector along with what the player model could look like, although I'm still unsure of that.

Here are two designs for what Bob could look like, I made the design on the right first but decided something more simple would fit the general style of the game better. I still plan to redesign her again as I'm not quite happy with what I've done, that and I need to add the marbling and perhaps some earrings. Maybe next time I'll figure out how to make some simple hands that look decent.

And a design for the selector !! I'm not sure how to categorise the characters? Species was the most obvious way I could think of, and now that I think about it, I was thinking of giving some characters like Bob for example, more than one 'form', since in the TikTok series Bob is canonically glamoured to look more 'human' per se. The character model I used in the design is definitely one that I like but I'm unsure of the hands, since they're just kind of stubs, I'll most likely play around with that and try and change it.

Hello! I'm interested in becoming a sims 4 storyteller on youtube, but I'm in need of someone to talk to about the process that comes with using that platform. You're the only simmer I know that utilizes youtube, so I was wondering if you were okay with receiving questions like how long did it take to build your followers on there? do you use a mixture of gameplay animation and machinima animations? do you have any other useful tips for getting started and 'putting yourself' out there?

heyyyyyyyy! i don't mind answering questions at all! i love talking lol. there's loads of other simmers who use youtube for storytelling! i was inspired to start my channel after watching simlivncolor & trapgoddessshawty for years. there's so many other new people who have started creating more recently that i really enjoy too! (you should check out the showcase tab on my channel. i need to update it again too.)

i'll answer the animation question real quick because the building and tips kinda go together. i don't use many in-game animations these days. i don't really like them for the most part. the sims' movements are always very big because they're meant to be cartoony. it's something i tend to stray from just as a preference though. there's nothing wrong with using them though. especially if that's the vibe you're going for.

i've been doing youtube since about february of 2023. i hadn't started running lykaia on there until late feb/early march. it was a slow journey, but an exciting one. i still have the screenshot from when i reached my first ten subscribers, first ten views on a video, everything. a lot of my traffic came from tik tok because i started on there. though it definitely wasn't much. only a small percentage really transfers over from platform to platform. trick of the trade, i guess. i did a giveaway once, i believe but quickly came to realize i didn't like it. things like giveaways are quick gimmicks to get people to follow you, but most times most of them don't stay. not to mention- a lot of them aren't invested in the content. they're just there for the prize, so it's not the best method to try to boost your following. i will say i've been pretty consistent with posting and that's helped a lot. you really wanna just take your time with things and develop an audience that's invested in your story organically. you can and should utilize other platforms if you want to grow. youtube's algorithm isn't necessarily built for discovery, so it is a lot harder to grow there and gain traction. tik tok, twitter, bluesky, tumblr, and suprisingly- pinterest, are all good options to choose from. i will say to not get fixated on numbers or doing things just to gain traction. numbers don't validate your work, your work is already valid from the jump. a lot of this shit is just straight up luck. your viewership numbers, be it big or small, are not a testament to how good your story is. make what you wanna make because you like it. there's no right way to do anything, really.

with that said though- having high quality content helps A LOT for a platform like youtube. by that i mean having footage that's good quality. all of my footage is recorded and uploaded at 4k resolution. using reshade in game will help the game look better. color grading your footage when you edit it. enticing thumbnails help get clicks. (which has been so hard for me. the thumbnails always stump me lol) even having a game that is aesthetically pleasing. i don't mean utilizing a trendy aesthetic, but whatever your vibe is- make sure it looks nice. make sure the textures are good quality. having builds that look nice help and interesting. having good fps. (which is tough since ts4 LOVES to lag but I digress.) however you want it to look, just make sure it's the best quality of that. um i don't really know what else to say. any other questions you have- feel free to ask!

When I say "Stop transing minors" I don't just mean medically transitioning, I also mean stop exposing kids to overly sexualized situations.

A 14-year-old girl who identifies as a “drag king” and is being transitioned to a “boy” has reportedly been performing sexually suggestive shows at LGBT clubs and bars across Vancouver, Canada. The minor, who is disabled and autistic, goes by “he/him/they/it” pronouns and is taking testosterone under the permission of her mother.

The child, who was born female but identifies as a “boy,” uses the stage name “Nova Tropica” and has performed in at least three LGBT bars in Vancouver, all of which are adult venues that serve alcohol. Among the clubs Nova has danced at are The Fountainhead Pub, Steamworks brewpub, and The Junction.

According to Gays Against Groomers, during her performance at The Foundationhead Pub, a gay bar located on Davie Street, the child danced with only tape covering the front of her breasts.

Nova maintains a YouTube channel where she often uploads footage of her performances.

In August of 2023, she shared a video of her dancing on stage in a bar to the song “Bubblegum B*tch” and is seen collecting dollar bills from audience members. In another video, Nova is seen dancing alone to the Britney Spears’ controversial song “If U Seek Amy,” which is intended to sound out the letters “F-U-C-K me.”

In some of the videos posted to her YouTube account, she is seen dancing to an adult crowd wearing only a cut-out bathing suit, an outfit she has also posed in for photos shared to her social media while wearing clear, stiletto “pleasers,” a form of platform high-heel most frequently associated with stripping, pole dancing, and the sex trade.

As well as posting footage of her performances to YouTube, Nova also maintains an Instagram page where she posts clips of herself dancing on stage while exclusively adult crowds cheer her on. In many of the videos, Nova is wearing revealing clothing and, during one performance, she even spreads her legs for the audience.

On her Instagram, which was made private shortly after her activities were first exposed by Gays Against Groomers, Nova also frequently posted about her mental health struggles, though continuously insisted her “neurodivergence” was unrelated to her desire to transition.

“The only way they could even correlate is through the way I view my gender,” Nova said in the caption of one post where she described herself as a “demon boy” and said she’s “everything Lucifer wants her to be.”

In another post, in which she wears a cut-out swimsuit she has performed in, Nova said she “loves” how testosterone is starting to affect her muscle definition.

Nova’s transition has been supported by her mother Chrysta. On her own Instagram page, Chrysta posted about how she had been struggling to access hormones for her daughter since she was just 11 years old.

In the post, Chrysta acknowledges that Nova is experiencing poor mental health, but attributes her condition to “being born in the wrong body.” She also condemns the Canadian political parties attempting to pass legislation which would protect children from medical transitioning.

“I will not allow any government to MURDER my child,” Chrysta said in one post. “Forcing a child to live in a body that is not authentic to their person is MURDER.”

The post was made in reference to the People’s Party of Canada, which developed a 7-point plan to protect women and children from the harmful effects of gender ideology, such as banning men from women’s spaces and sports and banning genital mutilation surgeries and cross-sex hormones for minors.

Not only has Chrysta facilitated Nova’s transition, but she also confesses to monitoring her social media, meaning she is aware of the inappropriate videos and photos being posted online of her minor daughter.

In one post, she addressed rumors that an adult Drag King had behaved inappropriately in messages with her young daughter, claiming the concerns were “false accusations.”

But her notice was not the only suggestion that Nova has been in contact with adult drag performers.

On Instagram, Nova spoke about attending a youth summer “drag camp” hosted by “Rose Butch” and “DeeDee LaCraze.”

DeeDee LaCraze also operates a YouTube channel called “Drag4Kids” where he has made multiple videos in full drag singing nursery rhymes. LaCraze hosts his youth drag camp along side Rose Butch, a trans identified female who calls herself a “non-binary drag thing.”

The summer camp, held in July 2023, was made available for children as young as 7.

There has been an uptick in the number of children performing drag, often in bars and clubs, in recent years. Last April, a video went viral showing a young “drag queen” dancing at a party sponsored by a gay hookup app.

Arguably one of the most well-known “drag kids” is Desmond Napoles, who goes by the name “Desmond is Amazing.” Desmond rose to fame at only 11 years old in 2017 after being featured on RuPaul’s Drag Race. Soon after, the child appeared in YouTube and Facebook streams alongside adult men, and was even filmed joking about snorting ketamine.

With the increase in “drag kids” has come further scrutiny of the sexual predators involved in the drag scene. In 2022, a “drag kid” mentor and a former elementary school teaching assistant faced child pornography charges following an investigation into exploitative material shared on the internet.

GIF Tutorial

This is going to be a long post, so I'm going to place the majority of it under the cut.

Disclaimer - There are many ways to make gifs, and this is just one way to make them - it's the process that I have figured out works best for me. I am in no way claiming that this is the "definitive" or "best" way to make gifs. There are probably other, better ways to do things, but because people have asked how I do it, I am sharing my process.

Photoshop Layout I use Photoshop CC, but I used Photoshop CS5 for years, got used to it, so when I upgraded to CC, I arranged it to resemble what I was used to.

I have the following windows open:

PART ONE - CLIPPING Part 1 consists of using a screen recorder (i.e., Quicktime) to make short clips of scenes or parts of a scene that you want to make gifs of. I have a Mac, so Quicktime is what I use. For Windows users, I’m sure there are equivalent alternatives that are just as good. Years ago, when I was first starting to make gifs, I frequently heard people refer to KMPlayer as what they used, so that might still be a good option for you if you are a Windows user. The most important part is that it takes high-quality recordings, with as little detail and quality loss as possible.

With this screen recording method, you can make screen recordings of video files that are stored locally on your computer (I use VLC to play videos), or streaming on sites like YouTube, Amazon Prime, Hulu, Disney+, HBO, etc. No downloading of the video is necessary. For some of those websites, if you have trouble with getting it to work, you may have to disable your browser’s hardware acceleration. I record the clips with sound, to make it easier to transcribe/write out the dialogue in Photoshop later. When I have recorded all the clips I want, I put the clips into my folder where I store all my clips, and into another folder that is labelled with the episode number so I can remember where each clip came from in order to properly label them later when the time comes to upload them to Tumblr.

PART TWO: EXTRACTING/MAKING GIFS FROM THE CLIPS

Open video file in Photoshop To do this, click on File > Import > Video Frames to Layers

Use the markers to select roughly where you want the gif to begin and end.

With videos that have been clipped with Quicktime (not sure about other programs), the vast majority of the time there are twice as many frames as needed – every other frame is a duplicate. For a smaller gif size and smoother playback, I delete every other frame in the timeline box at the bottom of the screen. I used to do this manually (very time consuming), but now do it with the use of an action that I created that will automatically select every other frame. Downloads and installation instructions for all the actions I use are available above.

To use an action, click on the title of the action, then click the play button at the bottom of the window.

I often get an error message that says “The command ‘Extend Frame Selection’ is not currently available”, but it still works. Just click “stop” and every other frame will be selected.

Click the trash can icon in the timeline window to delete the selected frames.

At this point, you will have half as many frames in your timeline as you did before. You will also likely have extra frames at both the beginning and end of the timeline that you don’t want to be part of the gif – from the previous shot, for example. You can delete those now.

This next step is optional: There will still be some duplicate frames in the timeline that were not deleted earlier. It is not strictly necessary to delete these, and I see many gifmakers who don’t get rid of them. It’s usually not all that noticeable. However, because I’m a bit of a perfectionist, I always go through the timeline frame-by-frame and delete each duplicate. This ultimately will reduce the gif’s file size and make the movement in the gif appear much smoother. I usually find that every fourth or fifth frame is a duplicate. Unfortunately, it’s not always consistent, so using an automated action would not work to make this process go faster.

Cropping Once this part is complete, I select the crop tool. I usually make my gifs 540px wide by 350px high. You can change the height to whatever you want, but Tumblr’s max width is 540px. I find the aspect ratio of 540x350px usually allows gifs to feel large, while at the same time not cutting off too much of the sides. Depending on the type of gif I’m making I may adjust this, but generally, if I’m giffing a scene from a TV show or movie, I stick with my standard 540x350px dimensions.

Adding Text Next, I add text. Select the text icon. In the layers window, make sure the top layer is selected, otherwise the text will not show up when you start typing.

If I am just making one gifset, or one or two gifs, I’ll go straight on to the next steps. However, if I’m making a large amount of gifs, I save the gif right now, close out of it, and repeat the steps in this section for the next gifs, so I eventually have an entire folder of “raw” unedited photoshop files that have been cropped and captioned, and just need to be colored, have text effects added, and be sharpened. For me personally, I find I make gifs more efficiently by doing it in this “batch” style process.

PART 3: COLORING, EFFECTS, & SHARPENING

Coloring I do plan on making a separate tutorial on this at some point, but will include a brief summary here. When it comes to coloring, I generally tend to go by a “less is more” attitude. I am not by any means great at coloring, but nonetheless I’ll explain the types of adjustment layers I typically use.

Note: Before making any adjustments, make sure you have the layer directly underneath the text layer selected, as shown in the screencap below, otherwise it will also apply those adjustments to the text, which makes it look weird.

I start with a Curves layer to change the overall brightness/contrast, then a Levels layer to adjust the shadows and highlights, and then a Brightness/Contrast layer to do some final minor tweaks. The only time I ever reuse gif coloring is when they are from the same scene with the same colors, lighting, backgrounds, etc. Every other time, I tailor the adjustment layers to the specific gif.

You can add adjustment layers by clicking the half light/dark circle on the bottom of the Layers window.

A lot of the time, I'll just stick to adjusting the lighting. However, if the colors look gross, or if they are over/undersaturated, I’ll add a Color Balance layer and play around with the settings on that, or use a Hue/Saturation layer and increase/decrease the saturation of specific color channels. It really depends on what you’re going for, and what you think looks good. There is no one “right” way to color a gif.

Text Effects If you are using the Actions I included in the download, you can just run the "Text Effects" action with the text layer selected, and it will do the following automatically. If not, you can do it manually by doing the following.

Right click on the text layer in the Layers window and click on Blending Options.

I use a stroke and drop-shadow on my gifs. Here are the settings I use.

Next, to center the text, click on the text layer. With the text layer selected on the Layers window, Select All by clicking ctrl+a (Windows) or command+a (Mac). Then click on the "Align horizontal centers" icon in the “Move tool” option menu.

Important – in the Layers menu, make sure the buttons “Unify layer position” and “unify layer effects” are clicked an enabled for the text layer.

Sharpening Select all the frames in the Timeline window. Then in the lower left-hand corner click “convert to video timeline.”

In the Layers window, select all of the frame layers (do not include the text layer or adjustment/coloring layers in the selection) and right click on it. Select “Convert to smart object.”

Select Filter > Sharpen > Smart Sharpen. In the same way that coloring can differ depending on the gif, the ideal settings for sharpening can also differ from gif-to-gif. It can really depend on the quality of the source of the gif, like whether it’s HD or not. These are the settings I’m using for the current gif:

If you are using Actions, you can run the "Layers to Frames" Action. If not, do the following:

Click on the button circled in red

It will open up this menu. Click on "Flatten frames into clips"

Click the button circled in red, then click "Make frames from layers"

Delete the first couple of "junk" frames

Select all of the frames. Right click on the "0 sec." to change the frame rate. I usually use 0.05, but it might depend on the gif itself.

Exporting Click on File > Export > Save for Web (Legacy)

I cannot add another screencap because I've reached Tumblr's max for this post, but here are the settings I use: Selective Diffusion 256 Colors Dither 100%

You may find that when you try to export your gif, the file size is too big. Tumblr’s gif file size limit is 10mb – try to make it under that – even anywhere in the 9.9mb range. As long as it’s under 10mb, it should work.

To get gifs that are too large to fit under the limit, I usually end up deleting frames from the beginning or end of the gif. If you’re using the 540x350px dimensions, I typically find that the average number of frames I can fit into one gif is between 80-90. Depending on the colors in the gif, it’s sometimes more, sometimes less.

you might not understand what’s going on when you first watch it or watch it multiple times. from what i’ve gathered, it seems to be a pulp-fiction-esque video with multiple story threads that all converge with the band in the middle of it all.

it’s actually a really good MV and I definitely prefer it over the UK version.

small bonus: early version of high and dry that’s just thom and an acoustic guitar. the structure and lyrics are pretty much the same but thom hums out the guitar solo near the end.

dogwander - 1996/1997

unreleased track from around the early ok computer era. there aren’t many mentions of this song besides briefly in notebooks or as a one liner on their website [around okc era]. it’s only been played once at a soundcheck and the only recording we have of it is partial because thom cuts the song early.

the title was featured again on minidisc 2 but isn’t an actual song, rather a recording of the show “dynomutt dog wonder”. it’s a shame it was never actually recorded on any of the discs.

lyrics of dogwander were also found in thoms notebook [1] [2] but it turns out it’s literally an early version of the national anthem in disguise.

let down - 1997

let down was originally meant to be the 5th single with an accompanying MV that was meant to nicely slot into the 7 television commercials video album. the *full* MV used to be considered lost media as a partial version was (unofficially) released but with low quality and a static that cut the song off early.

apparently, the reason why the song was never released as a single was because thom thought the MV was “shite”

unfortunately this is hard to believe because it’s from a fandom page with 0 citations. (I really do wish it’s real though)

fitter happier - 1997

not much talk about this MV on the web. although it’s never been officially released or considered “lost”, this MV is way more on the obscure side with reuploads frequently being taken down.

there is an internet archive upload of this with a really interesting story attached on how the MV came to be.

My plan was to do such a brilliant pitch so that they would be bowled over, but I didn’t know what tracks they were looking for so decided to be proactive and settled on working up a pitch for Fitter Happier, which I had figured was most likely to be the awkward one that would be hard to make a video for and was therefore most likely to be up for grabs (very cut throat world music videos!). My plan was to use loops from adverts that we would recreate if we got the commission, along with some graphic elements, so I taped loads of adverts & made about thirty seconds of the idea as a demo.I had made a video for LFO (a techno band from Sheffield) which got into the charts and ended up on the TV even though it was made mostly from Twin Peaks footage. Because it was close up and unrecognisable I thought I might get away with it again for Fitter Happier, but the plan was that what I made would have the footage replaced - in a way I'm pleased it wasn’t in the end as I like it the way it is now, has a certain aesthetic. | James Engwell via the internet archive

an animated MV for the national anthem was made by a team of two people named paco aguayo and oscar borrego for a contest that was hosted by MTV latin america. it features a plane crashing in a charred landscape, similar to some of stanley’s work around this era. the surviving passengers end up being attacked by flying amoeba like creatures leaving the main child to flee.

the animation ultimately didn’t win but the creators felt “pleased with the result of this short.”

reckoner - 2001

an early version of reckoner that was played on a webcast/livestream by the band at the gorge amphitheater. (6/23/2001)

the two versions are done in completely different styles with virtually no similarities besides a similar riff near the end and a slightly similar drum groove throughout. later in 2009 thom yorke converted the song into another unrecognizable piece using the line “pulled apart by horses” as the new title.

in rainbows - 2007/2008

In 2008 radiohead hosted a music video animation contest on aniboom for users to submit their own renditions of in rainbows songs. aniboom has since been shut down since 2016, effectively wiping away every video submitted.

later on, there was a small controversy surrounding the semifinalists due to a lack of fidelity to the rules. many of the submissions were premade animations that had radiohead music added in post.

One of the announced semifinalists is Dany Saadia, who submitted an 8 shot, 56 second re-edit of footage which had apparently been animated by other people long before the contest began. Dany Saadia is a director, by his own account, and not an animator. He gave no credit to who animated the footage, or when, and for a long time refused to answer whether the footage had been animated for his commercially released film "3:19". He now claims that the footage was not used in that film, but still has not said who animated it, for what or when.

Another semifinalist, 15 step, claimed to have been entered by an individual, but it has been discovered was actually previously animated footage created by a Japanese production company, who had created the setting and characters long before the contes began, and again, represented no more work than simply an editing project with a Radiohead track thrown over it.

Another semifinalist is Paul Beck's team, famous for his work on Waking Life and A Scanner Darkly, theirs consisted, again, of mostly pre-existing footage re-edited for the contest. Ok this sent me down a rabbit hole into the most subscribed to youtube channels of 2017, the post-brexit economy of the UK, tinder's revenue history, tinder's marketing budget history, youtube's revenue history (google "2017 youtube advertiser boycott" for a blast from the past), and way too little phandom and Fandom history so I still feel like I'm missing pieces lmao

The thing is... I distinctly *remember* seeing comments that dnp were past their zenith during ii? Granted I wasn't on phannie tumblr at the time so this must've been on twitter or idb, where people have always been more pessimistic I guess. But it's not like this was a lifetime ago, I know where I was and what I did in 2017 (secretly watch dnpg during a uni field trip while everyone else was getting drunk and hooking up with the professors) (until they realised i had mobile data even though we were abroad, which was when they started asking me if we could all watch skam on my phone) (bc apparently that was what the 20 year olds were into lmao) (which is also how i know nobody used tumblr anymore bc i found the pirated skam uploads through a doc linked on tumblr, while everyone else was trying to catch the youtube uploads before they got taken down after 2 hours), so I feel like I can't be misremembering it that much? Like, I remember everyone (irl and on twitter) talking about conventional "youtubers" (as in, person who talks into a camera without a large production company behind them) in these mind-bogglingly reductionistic terms after pewdiepie came out as a racist and then again after logan paul filmed that dead body (tbf that was in december 2017, so definitely after the tinder spon), and I specifically found it so strange that it seemed like none of these commentators knew any other professional youtubers. Like the whole business model seemed so strangely more niche than it had a few years earlier? Like, in 2012 all my friends were watching Tyler Oakley or Jenna Marbles, and then by 2016 they had moved on to watch... Seth Meyers clips? On Youtube? Or, you know, Skam reuploads. Which is not what the platform was for at all, but there was this strange shift in content that wasn't *made* for youtube.

All this to say.... I guess the ad *could* have been that expensive, especially bc immediately after brexit inflation went up in the uk, so that probably also affected the numbers, depending on whether they got the deal with tinder uk or tinder us? I still feel like 2017ish wasn't a high point for youtubers specifically. CORRODED COFFIN COMES OUT IN SPEECH [Grammy Awards 2001]

The video has the grainy quality that TV had back then, however, the hall filled with famous people and extra’s is still fully visible as it pans between different hotshots from 2001. Then it cuts back to the presenter, who says: “And the winner of Album of the Year isssss … Corroded Coffin!”

Cheers go up all around as the band comes up on screen, all of them have big smiles on their faces, pride shining through, as they get up to accept the award.

As the front man, Eddie accepts the trophy from the presenter, shaking the man’s hand as he takes it. With that done, he turns to the audience, the other members behind him to support him and partake in the acceptance speech that he will give for all of them.

Eddie leans into the microphone and says: “As always this one goes out to my Uncle Wayne as well as all the parents of the rest of the band and all the other loved ones. We couldn’t be here without you. We’ve won genre specific Grammys before, but to get this one is truly an honor.”

People already start to clap, thinking this is it. The band has never given long speeches before, limiting it to thanking the people they’ve always thanked, before leaving again.

However, Eddie doesn’t step away from the mic, instead saying: “This award isn’t just for us, we couldn’t have done it without everyone who worked on it and we thank them very much. The people we won’t be thanking, however, is out label.”

Gasps are heard all throughout the room as whispers start up. Reporters present lean in and the presenter looks torn between keeping them in time and maintaining what might go down as an iconic moment in TV history.

“You have opened many doors for us, but you have stomped down on one of our main principles and we won’t be silenced,” Eddie says loudly and clearly. “So instead of them I will be thanking my husband, Steve, who I love very much.”

The room seemingly explodes, but Eddie keeps talking: “And we also dedicate this to all the queer kids out there, who are growing up alone. We see you, we love you, we are standing by you and we are a part of you. I am the biggest fag there has ever been, as is Gareth here, and Corroded Coffin will always welcome you.”

Eddie leads them, his head held high, award proudly held up to remind everyone in the room they awarded it to a bunch of queers. Jeff is right behind him, throwing up devil horns when a camera gets right up in his face, while Gareth behind him just flips it off. Closing the rear is Chris, who despite his gentle nature is an imposing figure, which deters anyone from coming too close.

In the background, you can hear the presenter struggling to get back on track, but no one is listening anymore, all eyes following the band.

They don’t return to their seats, instead walking out of the venue to make a statement. The cameras follow them as far as they can within the bounds of the program, seeing how a man with neat hair and a pressed suit that many have thought to be an assistant waiting for them by the door.

However, assistant speculation is immediately debunked as Eddie throws an arm around him and pulls the man close so they can share a kiss.

Naturally, the camera immediately cuts away, because showing that is definitely not okay for the time and program. With the cut away, the video ends.

ST Season 5 Theory:

Lucas and Erica as Heroes in Season 5

We all know the end of Eddie’s campaign in the first episode of season 4 right? That, paralleled to Lucas’ basketball game. In these scenes, Lucas leads the Tigers to victory, and Erica defeats Vecna in the campaign.

What if this is foreshadowing the two playing major parts in saving Hawkins/everyone in season 5?

Erica Defeating Vecna

Erica and Dustin were the only two left alive in the campaign- maybe this could parallel these two being the last hopes of Vecna being defeated?

Dustin makes an attempt to defeat him and fails, leaving Erica to save the day by rolling a 20. I could easily see this happening in the finale, where the two end up in one of the groups as the last standing, and Erica has to save the day once Dustin’s attempt to kill Vecna fails- like a rebound.

Lucas’ Act of Heroism

Speaking of rebounds, Lucas is able to win the game for the basketball team by taking the final shot after Jason’s failed attempt. I think this foreshadows how Lucas will have a major role in saving Hawkins and/or his friends- something Jason failed to do.

Building on this, I think whatever one of them does will affect the other. Specifically, Erica defeating Vecna will help Lucas succeed in his successful act of heroism (speculated from the order of the scenes, with Erica rolling the 20 before the ball lands in the hoop)

Result of Vecna’s Defeat(?)

Imagine this scenario:

Lucas is with one of the groups and he needs to save them- maybe it has to do with saving Max? As her and Vecna likely still have some kind of connection following her possession and her near-death opening the final gate.

(I will say, I feel like his act of heroism will affect a larger group of people than just Max- could be very similar to Jason though: Jason wanted to get revenge on Eddie and stop the evil on Hawkins because of what happened to Chrissy. Maybe Lucas’ arc will be similar (and much more successful))

Either way, whatever he’s trying to do is directly connected to Vecna’s survival/influence. Once Erica defeats him, his influence is no longer present or as strong, meaning he can successfully save/protect whoever he needs to save/protect.

That whole idea is a stretch honestly- but I thought it could be cool if they went in that direction.

Overall

Whether or not their moments of heroism are connected to one another is debatable, but I could definitely see the circumstances and outcomes of the basketball game and the DnD campaign reflecting the outcome of the main characters defeating Vecna and saving Hawkins.

I know it’s probably gonna be a more major character(s) who saves the day- Eleven and Will being the biggest contenders- but we’ve seen time and time again how the more supportive characters play major roles in defeating the villains; Nancy, Steve and Robin helped defeat Vecna by attacking his physical body in s4, Suzie gave them Planck’s Constant to get the keys to stop the gate from opening in s3, etc, etc.

Plus, Vecna isn’t technically the main villain- he’s just the “general” to the Mind Flayer. So, Will and Eleven can still have their major face-off moment against the biggest bad while the other characters knock out the other obstacles/monsters.

I will say though, Lucas’ arc in season 5 could absolutely be lined up to parallel Jason’s arc in season 4, and if so, it’s meant to show how Lucas succeeded where Jason failed- maybe due to their different personalities/mindsets?

I saw a separate theory (can’t remember the blogger, apologies-) that brought up the similarities between The Party (Mike, Will, Dustin, Lucas) and the Hawkins High Basketball Team, so maybe there’s something there?

More Thoughts on Lucas

Either way, I like the idea of these two saving the day- especially Lucas, whose relationship with the group has been put under pressure a few times.

In season 1, Lucas ended up on his own for a bit, trying to find the gate after he gets in a fight with Mike over El’s sabotage of their search (if I remember correctly 💔). In s4, Lucas is trying to fit in better with the popular crowd despite his friends’ disinterest and rejection of this, putting a strain on their relationship. Furthermore, in s4, Lucas was separated from the group for while as he was stuck with Jason and the basketball team.

Lucas being the hero would be a nice moment for the main group, maybe showing them that Lucas cares about what’s going/the well being of his friends just as much as any of them- always has, always will.

(I could totally be reading wayyyy too much into that 😭but also I’ve definitely noticed the strain in his relationship with his friends sometimes, especially in those seasons. So it could be something?)

Lucas and Erica having more heroic roles this season could be a thematic sibling thing this season:

Lucas and Erica defeating Vecna together, while Will and El (who are very often referred to as siblings) defeat the Mind Flayer.

(Not to mention the importance of the Wheelers this season, especially with Holly and Karen. There could totally be a moment with Nancy and Mike acting as heroes)

I really love your gifs, they’re amazing. I have been doing gif credits for a while, some good some bad. So my problem is, I want them the best and I was about post them but it keep saying that my gif is too big and need to be under 10MB, how I do that? I’ve done that and they not super clear, just horrible little blurry, well not blurry blurry, just ugly looking.

So how can I do that? Do I have to get special app or something like that?

First you need to make sure they have the right dimensions, so it won't look too blurry or choppy. These are the dimensions:

You can use Photoshop or Photopea to make your gifs, there are plenty of resources and tutorials explaining how to make them! But for them to be better looking, it's important that you download high definition videos, as from youtube, or even movies/tv shows if you're willing to!

This is the only way so they won't look terrible, I've been there before. I never used the right dimensions and they were ridiculous. I've been giffing for almost 13 years (believe it or not dkjdksgh), but I only got to improve my skills not so long ago when I started to use 1080p videos only (with different sizes for movies especially).

Either way, you don't have to make it perfect either. Make it just how you like it, but if you want them to be better, the only way is high quality videos :)

If you're having issues with the file size, you can delete some frames. It should upload even if it's like 9.98 MB. For headers, I realized that it needs to be under 9.5 MB or something, but nothing higher than that!

I hope that makes sense, I know it can be frustrating when you're new to the giffing club. But I'm always open to help if you need to

Ships passing in the night used Morse code sent with lanterns and shutters to communicate. That same basic principle has allowed NASA to communicate with Psyche, its mission to a metal-rich asteroid in the main belt. However, the “light” was a version of heat, and instead of being able to see each other, Psyche is 240 million miles away from Earth. Oh, and the upload rate of the data it sent is still better than old dial-up internet connections that were prevalent not so long ago. This feat was part of the culmination of the first Phase of NASA’s Deep Space Optical Communications experiment. Psyche is carrying a laser transceiver tuned to a specific frequency of infrared light, which can also be transmitted and received by two ground stations based in California. The infrared frequency the mission planner at NASA’s Jet Propulsion Laboratory selected is much higher than the typical radio frequency communications used for deep space missions. In this case, higher frequency also means higher data rate. As part of its Phase I operations, the experiment transmitted data to and from Psyche at an astonishing 267 megabits per second when the spacecraft was as far away as Mars when the Red Planet is closest to us. That is equivalent to a typical wired broadband connection back here on Earth. But it was made in space – with lasers.
