Report to the Office
Tammy sighed as she hung up the phone. Paul had gotten yet another complaint of bullying and she'd had to phone his mother. Now Paul was sitting outside waiting for her to reprimand him for the thirtieth time. She knew she'd gotten into the job because she believed in the kids and the possibilities of their futures but fuck...
Maybe some just couldn't be helped.
She opened the door and asked Paul to step inside. But as he walked past her something seemed off. There was a strange smell in the air. It smelled like ozone. It smelled like the room could be struck by lighting at any moment. And had Paul gotten... More?
She shook her head, unsure about what that thought even meant. He sat and looked up at her expectantly. She untucked her shirt as she began his reprimand.
"Paul how many times have we done this? You're 18 now. If you continue to cause trouble, the police are going to get involved."
He nodded with seeming understanding as she unbuttoned her shirt.
"What happened this time? Mrs. Redmond said you were harassing Emily Dinny."
He tried to explain his actions as she slipped her pants off.
"I wasn't harassing her," he said staring at the principal's increasing exposure. "I was groping her. But she asked for it!"
Tammy slipped a finger inside herself and gasped at his insinuation.
"Paul mmmm that attitude is not healthy! Women aren't ah nnn asking for anything regardless of the way the dress."
"No, Miss Weathers. She actually asked. She asked me to 'Squeeze her melons until she came.'"
Tammy moaned loudly at that comment.
"I have ohhhhhhhhhh trouble believing that. Nothing ever changes with you Paul. What are we going to oh fuck oh what can we try that we haven't already tried?"
"You could ask me to eat you out. I know you want to."
"Oh yes please Paul. I seem to need your ah your help."
Paul nodded, seemingly penitent, as he approached. Tammy let her mind drift away on the pleasure his tongue provided. And by the time he'd finished her off, she believed his story. She could see why Emily would want his attention.
"I should tell you, Paul. I've already called your mother and Emily's. They'll be here soon."
"That's okay. We'll just explain it to them like I just explained it to you."
"Oh yess..." Tammy sighed. "I believe everyone will leave satisfied."
Continue the story with Mama Bear.

Yarragardee Basin, Mangala, 7995 A.D.
------------------------
Accompanying music: You’re On Fire by They Might Be Giants. Summer road trip music of all time, in my opinion.
Here’s a little expository write-up on the history and geography of the worlds shown here. Someday I’ll have more to show of the personal story of these two critters and their travels; until then, a more macro-level description.
------------------------
(most of this info has become outdated as modeling invalidated some original assumptions and I changed my mind on what I wanted here; future art of Mangala will reflect this)
Mangala and its sister world Kahira (visible in the background) are binary planets, orbiting one another in a manner not entirely unlike that of Pluto and Charon in the Solar System. Mangala is a relatively small world - just about twenty percent the mass of the Earth, something like if you took two copies of Mars and smushed them together; without the internal heat to drive a carbonate cycle long term, it had long been a frozen, dusty, and arid place when transhumanity first established a permanent presence in the Tahoka system almost a thousand years ago. Since those early days, terraforming using a Birchian soletta system (a huge but foil-thin Fresnel lens of mirrors, with a secondary focal lens for burning atmospheric gasses out of the regolith) has rendered it shirtsleeve habitable to baseline humans across much of the surface, although the global water inventory remains low* and the air in the “continental” uplands is stratospheric, with only the hardiest lichens establishing a foothold. Most of Mangala’s major metropolitan areas are located in the deep rift valleys and basins, where air pressure is highest.
Kahira on the other hand, a rock almost a fifth the mass of its sister world (a little under the mass of old Mercury), remains only slightly terraformed - surface conditions are persistently cold, with a thin barely-Martian atmosphere. Some of its larger rift valleys and craters have been tented over, aerated, and planted with tall low-gravity forest and grassland, a style of habitat construction dating back to the first Mars colonists almost six thousand years ago. Industrial complexes and buried cities sprawl out across the bare surface of the moon, with huge low-gravity lava tubes seeing extensive urban development.
The Yarragardee Basin, pictured above, is a graben basin in Mangala’s northern hemisphere, notable for the historic industrial city of Tirupati - here we see two road-trippers between cities on the basin’s great plain, taking a break in the long late afternoon of a sunset-day***. Having stopped for a night at a motel near Tirupati’s aerospace complex, they’re now continuing their journey to the city of Redmond-Tonasket, located in the Woronora Valles trench system about two thousand kilometers to the southwest.
* While plenty of water could have been imported from Tahoka’s cometary halo, it was decided not to do so in order to avoid inundating pre-existing cities in the valleys and deep basins. The extremely humid hothouse conditions that come after slamming dismantled ice moons through the stratosphere at over six kilometers a second were also broadly considered unacceptable.
** Smaller worlds have been terraformed in transhuman space, both by worldhouse and more open-air methods, but it’s largely the kind of thing that much more energy-rich systems do as a vanity project. Kahira may someday see blue skies, but likely not for a thousand years at least. (edit, one year later: I actually changed up some of this while simulating this system for stability. I’ll be posting more about this soon.)
*** Mangala and Kahira, being tidally locked to each other such that they always show one another the same face as they orbit their common center of mass, both have days exactly as long as their orbital periods - 403 kiloseconds, or roughly 112 hours. This is for convenience divided into month-weeks comprising four “circadian days” of 100 kiloseconds (~26 hours), with the remaining three kiloseconds added on to the last day of a month-week to keep synchronization.

P4 headcanons
Because I just realized this is my blog and I can do it lol.
Edgar Redmond
He learned how to dance when he was little and always loved it.
His favourite author is Jane Austin but won't admit it to anyone.
Puts a lot of effort into becoming a better person but tries to hide it because it should be something "effortless".
Flirt with women but will panick if they flirt back and he would run away.
Hasn't slept for a while after Maurice's "accident" wondering how he could not see the truth .
Lawrence Bluewer
Has tried to read all the books of Weston as a personal challange
Secretely likes coffee.
His sisters dressed him up more than once as a girl.
He has, unwillingly, learned how to put on make-up, and he is good at it.
He wouldn't have minded to become a professor, and Professor Michaelis was his role model for a while.
Herman Greenhill
Loves dogs. Has many of them at home.
The cricket bat he carries is a present from someone he cares about and that's why he always bring it with him.
Adores sweet but has to pretend he doesn't.
His favourite sport is horse riding.
If something is too difficult to understand at school he goes to discuss it with Lawrence and pretends that he just want to exchange their opinions on the topic Lawrence knows and just helps him without pointing it out.
Gregory Violet
He makes his own lip-stick. It took a lot of effort to reach that color and he is proud of it.
Sometimes he looks at the other three and wishes he was taller.
His hair were longer but he was forced to cut them.
His hair are actually white, but he prefers black so he dyes them. He leaves the white strand because it looks cool.
Needs glasses but refuses to wear them.
Slight angst version + Ship discourse + Spoilers of future arcs hidden so you don't have to see them unless you want to
Edgar Redmond
It needs him a while to fall asleep because he keeps thinking of the last Midnight Party and his expulsion from the school.
After Maurice's accident he had a breakdown in his room and broke some stuff while crying, thinking how he could make the same mistake twice.
He was the most excited about the Starlight 4 project and couldn't wait to get on stage.
He couldn't drink tea for months after the midnight party without throwing up.
Lawrence Bluewer
Didn't sleep for a week after the expulsion and ended up collapsing in Edgar's house.
Herman Greenhill
He was depressed after the midnight tea party and thought of killing himself to atone for his sins. Gregory noticed and slapped him before hugging him.
After the creation of the S4, if bad memories/thoughts get to him, he start training one of the song.
Gregory Violet
Wanted to run away from Blavat the moment he noticed O!CIel.
All P4 (poly because I can't separate them)
They accidentally all fell for each other and tried to keep it a secret, it soon failed as everyone was getting jealous of everyone.
It was awkward at first, no one knew how to act.
The Edgar and Gregory accidentally teamed up to act like everything was normal and they slowly found balance.
Edgar thinks it's his duty to maintain them together and happy
If Gregory scrap a drawing, the others just sneakily take it back and keep it safe somewhere else.
Any drawing Gregory made of the other is also extremely well preserved by that person. And the other three friendly argue on who has the most drawings/who has the prettiest ones.
Edgar cuddles anyone. Doesn't matter where or when, if he wants to cuddle he will find someone. His favourite victim for this is Herman because he gets flustered the most.
Lawerence's sister are always casually the companions for everyone is there MUST be a female companion at an official event. (They want to tease their brother)
Herman refuses the others to lift anything.
Lawrence started to read out loud when he noticed that the others fell asleep faster if he was talking.
Herman is the first to wake up and force himself to be as quiet as possible to not wake the others up.
They wait untile veryone is present to start eating.
Lawrence is the most possessive of the four.
Do I have more? Yes, but for now just take my small offering.

Ciel would still be attempting to learn more about Derrick by getting closer to his house's prefect and their fag. Here's my thoughts how those scenarios would go:
Ciel goes to Violet Wolf
Ciel enters emo wolf school (rip)
He has to get closer with Violet and Cheslock (double rip)
One is even more introverted than him, and the other one bullies people he likes
either Ciel attempts to be Cheslock's fag (difficulty 5 stars) or he kicks him out of the school (lol) and becomes Violet's fag
which seems super difficult to pull off, since Violet is hard to butter up and already seems to be on Ciel's tail
tension would be so good though, between Ciel investigating Derrick in the house (can't seem to find him anywhere) and the purple students on edge with outsiders
horror house levels of fun
Ciel goes to Scarlet Fox
very lively cause Ciel gets way more involved with so many characters in this arc: Redmond, Maurice, Joanne, and Soma.
attempts to become Mauric's fag? immediately backfires in his face, since Maurice is worried he'll steal his spot.
yknow, way too easy if he does, let's make it so Soma helps reveal the bullying, Redmond finds out, decides Soma is the right fit for his fag instead cause of his judge of character, Ciel is flabbergasted
Ciel now has to be Soma's fag (rip rip destroyed explosion 💥💥💥)
i didnt put Green Lion cause i know they're gonna lose. also don't care. but i'll tell you what would happen if Ciel went there anyway
because Edward is there (secretly happy Ciel got into the same house) i would assume Edward would be willing to introduce him to the prefects.
and i think Edward would be more willing to take him as his fag once he proves himself worthy (he wants to be fair, but i think he likes to support Ciel when he can).
ironically the easiest route so far in getting closer to the P4?
Ciel hanging out with all those jocks at the house becomes a mob psycho 100 situation
he's gonna get bullied into having a better psyche and a healthy diet, he hates it (good for him 😔)
in the cricket tournament, Ciel doesn't have to do much so he just takes it easy
but because the whole house wants to support their little buddy, they keep trying to give him the spotlight, aka sport feats he's in no way capable of, so he's being tortured out there
actually lowkey this is the funniest scenario, i would vote for it. too bad :p

So, I really look at the P4's actions as I would any fictional characters: Since they aren't real, I don't judge them in the way I would an actual person. I think most people understand that liking a character in fiction isn't the same as liking a person who behaves that way in real life.
But I also have researched true crime too much not to also be able to also see them in a more realistic light. So here are some interesting things I'd notice if I were judging their behavior if they were real-world people.
Yes, they had an excellent "crime of passion" defense. The scene they walked in on was horrific. Combined with the realization that Agares would aid and abet Derrick and co. in doing this to others and that due to Derrick's family connections, he would likely be given much power with no accoubtability, the P4 flying into a rage is something I think a lot of people could understand.
But immediately after, the four are incredibly calm. Only Greenhill shows any remorse. The four are surrounded by the broken bodies of people they knew. Even if they'd just realized who Derrick really was, this was a boy who had been their friend. It is impossible to not form some psychological bond with people you spend hours of every day with. But the P4 are very calm as they survey and further mutilate his dead body.
Redmond even says this was for the best. Psychologically speaking, this is not normal.
Then the behavior in the ensuing weeks/months. Normally, people who have just committed a murder display odd behaviors after the crime. Especially if the people aren't psychopaths. But the P4 go about their lives as normal. They show no deviance from routine or in behavior.
Even when confronted with the truth by Ciel, they are completely unrepentant, not a lick of shame.
And while people might say that they just realized that Derrick was a danger to the public...that makes sense from the pov of cold logic, but even so, most people would not be able to just go about their days as normal after killing anyone.
Then we see the incident with Cole. Even after knowing he had murdered several people with a cricket bat, Greenhill grabbed that before he'd even seen what was happening. A strong man like him, with authority in the school, could have stopped this without the bat. But still he used it to attack the bullies. He didn't kill them, but as a juror or judge, I would find it pointed toward a lack of remorse that he so readily used it again.
So if this were a real-world situation, I would definitely say the P4 are dangerous. If I were a judge, I could see some lighter sentencing based on the circumstances they found Derrick and his friends in, but I would still sentence them to a lengthy prison sentence.

Anne with an E didn't invent feminism in the Anne of Green Gables series
I just saw a post on tumblr about how AWAE has feminism (as opposed to the original series, which apparently doesn't???) and my reply went past the word count, so here it is:
Firstly, I think that Anne is an incredibly well-done feminist character in her own right, and that's what offers her enduring popularity. She literally smacks a slate over the head of a boy who comments on her looks, publishes stories, is the first girl from Avonlea to go to Redmond, succeeds wildly at Queen's, is principal of a school, refuses to marry at all unless it's for love, etc. Moreover, she does all of this while being interested in fashion and typical 'girly' things, as well as remaining a flawed character who still feels completely real. She doesn't reject femininity, but she does as she pleases.
It's not like the books push sexism under the rug, either. The mathematics professor at Redmond "detested coeds, and had bitterly opposed their admission to Redmond". The older women of Avonlea don't particularly approve, either- Anne gets plenty of discouragement that Gilbert and Charlie Sloane never receive, and some even admit that they don't find it particularly proper for a girl to receive so much higher education. Specifically, she's told that she's only going to get married. Later in the books people inform her that she will never be married because she's "too particular" (Mrs. Harmon or Jane's mom), and that she should just settle as soon as she can. This is only in Anne of The Island alone, btw. In either the first or second book I think she even voices support for women being ministers, which isn't even a position to be taken for granted today.
There are loads of things I love about AWAE- Ka'kwet's storyline was amazing and added so smoothly, the casting is superb, etc. But they didn't introduce feminism to the series. In effect, I've also heard the argument that AWAE is less feminist. They take out so many of Anne's accomplishments at Redmond, as principal, actually getting published, etc. They remove her conviction on marrying for love. They end her story when she kisses Gilbert as if that's the end of all things lovable and Anne-related (although I know that's more the fault of Netflix than the directors). We never see the town's canonical reaction to going to Redmond, staying a single pringle for as long as she did, etc. In fact, quite the opposite, because the show kind of rushed Anne and Gilbert together, and as a result missed huge chunks of their friendship and romance. Again, not the fault of the directors, but I can only react to what we actually got... which is the removal of everything feminist about the original series. Yes, they added other points, but still...
Idk, I adore both but it still irks me when people say "if Anne was alive today/written more recently she'd be a huge feminist!!!". Yes, but she already was... in her own time. Anne-girl was a rebel from the start!
All hail Queen Anne 👑

For there is nothing lost, that may be found, if sought
Tumblr media
“You’ll be late for practice, Blythe,” Charlie said, once again using Gil’s surname as if they hadn’t known each other since their mothers had had them in lace-trimmed dresses. Gilbert scowled, partly at Charlie’s attempt at bluff heartiness, but mostly at the lines in front of him, which wouldn’t scan. Or rhyme. Or behave in any way as a sonnet should, which Gilbert, who genuinely enjoyed reading Spenser and Donne as much as attending biology lecture, knew well enough.
As Anne would know even better.
Queen Anne, his own Faerie Queene, with her glorious bright hair and her shining eyes, her delicate eyebrows drawn across her fair skin like chalk—
Like chalk. It was drivel. Worse than drivel—senseless and thumping and everything Anne was not. He slashed through the words instead of crumpling up the paper and throwing it aside. He’d wasted too much already, his mother would frown most decidedly and then snort if he admitted what he’d been doing, reminding him the stable could use a good mucking out if he wanted much to do with manure.
Charlie was likely to snort as well, unless he was still doing the Redmond act he’d whipped up after the first fortnight away from Avonlea, right around the time he started growing a mustache and using slang with an affected nonchalance.
The mustache was more convincing.
“We have a little time left,” Gilbert said. Perhaps the answer was to drop the reference to her eyebrows. Nothing rhymed with eyebrows, unless he picked the singular and then used “highbrow,” but Anne would laugh and then offer to never speak of the sonnet to anyone, not even Diana, whom Gilbert was fairly certain would give him credit simply for attempting to write a poem for Anne, rather than the actual product.
Your eyes my North Star, he wrote, then lifted the pen. There was something there, but how her two eyes equaled one North Star was an offense to astronomy as well as being markedly short on iambs and dactyls.
At the very least, his growing frustration might be useful on the practice field, where the coach often complained Blythe was too careful of his fellows and wouldn’t be prepared when it came time to challenge an opposing team. Charlie leaned in, peered over and managed to read a little before Gil pulled the page back.
“You don’t forget mine own wingéd creature nearly brained you for pointing out she was a redhead,” Charlie remarked.
“She still is,” Gilbert said. “And she didn’t nearly brain me. I had a worse goose-egg from that time Moody chucked a ball at me after Sunday School—”
“She did break her slate,” Charlie said. “Anne of the wings and the whatchamacallit, gleaming albatross—”
“Alabaster, you dunderhead!”
“She had quite an arm on her, we all thought she’d take your head off,” Charlie said.
“I know. I was there. I still liked her then and I do now,” Gil replied, letting his exasperation with his lack of poetic ability find a release in sniping at Charlie Sloane. Anyone in Avonlea would have understood the satisfaction therein, except maybe for Josie Pye at her Pye-est, as Anne would say.
“Come on, leave it, go to practice with me and then to the pub,” Charlie said. “Your chicken-scratch epic on Anne Shirley’s orange symphony of tresses will be waiting and maybe you’ll have a better idea. In vino veritas, they say.”
“I’d have to be drunk to keep writing this,” Gilbert said.
“That’s the spirit, Blythe! Come to practice, get pleasantly addled with me, and then see what poetic flight of fancy a pint of ale makes possible.”
Years later, some golden afternoon at Ingleside when the children were all running about in Rainbow Valley and Anne was left to her own devices and a garden that required no deadheading, Gilbert returned home to find her at his desk in the library, squinting as she leafed through a collection of yellowing pages; she had finally embarked upon her long-awaited plan to organize their college memorabilia, which he knew was a polite way of saying clearing out some more space for the latest shipment of books Paul Irving was sending up from New York.
“Does this say ‘albatross,’ Gil?” she asked, her amusement only lightly mixed with the confusion engendered by his poor handwriting. She often said he could have no other career than medicine, given the hand he wrote and the physician’s reputation.
“Alabaster,” he said. “I was a poor enough poet, but I would never have compared you to an albatross.”
“It might have been an allusion to Coleridge,” she said.
“It wasn’t,” Gil replied.
“You poor dear darling man. Boy really, this was our first year at Redmond, yes?” she said, those grey eyes of hers bright, still his North Star though he’d never resolved the quantity issue to his satisfaction.
“Yes. But before you console me too generously, I’ll have you know someone else also thought it read albatross,” he said.
“Who?” she said, a puckish smile on her lips, one that would make Susan Baker shake her head at Mrs. Doctor’s incomprehensible ways and then serve even larger slices of her strawberry rhubarb pie to set the world straight.
“Charlie Sloane,” Gilbert said.
Anne burst out laughing and Gilbert joined her. When they’d both caught their breath, she spoke first.
“That’s me put in my place.”
“Not quite,” Gil replied. “You’re too far away—”
“Shall I fly to you then? For I am a wingéd creature,” she replied.
“You’re a belle dame sans mercy and well you know it, Anne-girl,” he said.
“I can be merciful,” she said. “I’ll show you. I’ll pack all these poetical endeavors away and I won’t show the children until we’re very old and very grey.”
@gilbertsmustache see what thou hast wrought! Or, be careful what you prompt for :)

Spoilers for all of the Public School Arc
Rewatching it again (cause what else do I do) and found some things I thought were worth discussing cause maybe I'm just slow and need an outside perspective:
So sebastian revealed that undertaker was the one that orchestrated everything as the headmaster from the time Redmond called him up, as payment for using their services. I'm assuming that undertaker was the one that made the order to send Derrick to purple house (unless he just sat back and let prefects deal with the school image themselves). But why the heck was that order made in the first place?? It just seemed like such a random fact that was constantly reiterated through the arc
I'm assuming again that it was because purple house calls way less attention from students (judging from the outward homeless appearance of the house itself and stoning other students away💀) and from outsiders (like how Redmond and red house in general is always being surrounded by women) therefore giving them way more time before other students realize that hey, we haven't actually seen those 5 students in a while.
And the way your telling me the teachers didn't say JACK about multiple students being missing in class for months at a time?? Even sebastian mentions this, though it's only about Derrick. Either the staff really hates derrick and his gang cause they knew they were assholes or just didn't care or notice (Edit: i realized mcmillian mentioned that it was common for purple house people to drop out. I'm assuming that's just what the staff thought).Which says a lot about the school the prefects were so stubborn on protecting 💀
I present to you another reason that's plausible: an excuse for derrick to step down as fag so Redmond could find a replacement. Can't have a dead body serve you tea. Though that doesn't explain sending the other boys there as well.
I was SO convinced that the burning of purple house would have something to do with derrick's body being hidden somewhere there when I first saw it.
It was a cool scene and all but the hell was violet freaking out for?? Stopping his other houses to stop his house from....burning seems a little dramatic for it just to mean nothing in the end.
Sure you can say it was the rivalry between the houses and all that, but unlike cheslock (who despite everything he says, seems to be pretty chummy with ol edward there) who actively does things that show he has at least a LITTLE problem with other houses (mentioning the rock throwing twice in a post), violet doesn't seem to...have that much of a problem with them. He doesn't strike me as a person who wastes his energy on hating needlessly.
My point is if he can commit murder with one student from each house, there should be no reason for him to be so mad that they want to help him. Which is why I thought he was hiding something.
Only for it to mean NOTHING IN THE END the fuck???
What exactly were the p4 planning on doing if undertaker was successful in making derrick and the others functioning members of society? Sending them back home? With no explanation on the MASSIVE scars going round their head?
How the hell were they gonna deal with that. Give them to Maurice for lessons on concealer?
And I'm correct me if I'm wrong but don't bizarre dolls have a really bad smell to them?? Why doesn't agares have one
Answering my own question, I guess this just sums up to poor planning on Redmond's part, since he's never seen a bizarre doll for himself before.
Am I being dumb?? Are these plot holes or are there actual reasons for these decisions. Maybe Yana was just filling up pages with random events to help lead up to the midnight tea party?

Tumblr media
The reporter was so nervous! She could feel how sweatier her hands were getting by the minute and how dry her mouth was. She was going to be the first one in the entire city of Chicago to get an interview with the new Michelin-starred restaurateur in town. She had beaten them all, once again.
When she saw Carmen Berzatto approaching her, she swallowed, hard.
The interview started smoothly, considering her heart was basically beating outside of her chest. She was amazed by how great she could function on autopilot and still remember all the questions she had studied the night before and gone over and over on the way to the restaurant.
He was HOT, she thought in the back of her mind as she tried to remain professional. She had such a crush on Carmy, based on her research, that when she finished booking the interview, she made sure to stop by the salon and get a makeover. Her hair looked like a mane straight out of a L'oreal campaign, and she even wore false eyelashes and her favorite French perfume.
When she confirmed the appointment for the interview and found out that his business partner/CDC wasn't going to be there to join them, she faked disappointment but celebrated on the inside because that meant she could flirt with the sexy chef all she wanted. She didn't care that it was rumored that Carmy Berzatto and his CDC were actually dating. It wasn't confirmed by any of them, so as far as she knew, he was available and she was determined to shamelessly hit on him as soon as she wrapped the interview. They had already swapped phones, so all she had to do now was make sure he knew she was down bad for him, and then wait for him to take the bait.
The golden compound question about how they got the Michelin Star and how he felt about it was mid-questionnaire. She preferred to break the ice by inquiring about him, his personal life, his favorite meals, his funny anecdotes in the kitchen, his trips around the world, and his family, which was a topic she quickly learned he was reluctant to touch so she didn't push it and whenever he stirred the conversation to Sydney she just skillfully changed the subject to avoid her being mentioned or keep her name out of the conversation as much as humanly possible. Sydney Adamu was not a winning chef in her eyes, she was just mere competition at this point, and Carla Redmond was not above treating her like such. She was laser-focused on her prize, to be more precise, on her prize's impossibly blue eyes, not to mention the rest of him.
"So, Carmy, can you tell us, mortals how is it that the Michelin stars happen to those who reach for them?"
"Um... Well, Darla, you make it sound a lot more epic than it actually is, really..."
"Carla, it's Carla, Carmy."
"Oh, sorry, yes, Carla. Well, let me tell you... Um... it's basically a phone call you get. As simple as that, well, scratch that. It's not so simple. I-I- think the logistics in the Michelin headquarters are something along the lines of... Um...so, once each restaurant in consideration has been inspected, the Michelin guide director meets with the um... the worldwide teams for what is called ‘star sessions’, I believe, and that is where the rating of each restaurant is debated. These sessions can last days, often do actually, and um... each restaurant is considered one by one until a unanimous decision is reached. And... the um... The results are then published in a country-specific guide, that's when you get the call."
"Sounds fascinating, Carmy!"
If he had gone over the entire list of colors in the Pantone color system, her answer and gooey eyes would have been the same.
"Before getting to the meat of this interview, the brand new accolade you just got, I'd like to make a quick round-up of all your previous awards: Let's see, you are a James Beard Award winner, right?"
"Um... yes, as it's Sydney, my partner."
"Right, right and you were also the best CDC at the most excellent restaurant in America and at some point not only the CDC of the best restaurant in the world, according to Eater Magazine, but also retained not just one but 3 Michelin Stars in New York? And all of this under the age of 30?"
"Well, yes. It was... Wow! You really did your research, Marla!"
She laughed for a second and then corrected him. Again.
"Carla, it's Carla, Carmy"
"Oh, I'm so sorry! My bad... Um... so, yeah, basically that's it, I was very um... lucky? I guess..."
"You gotta give me more than that, Carmy. I'm sure this must have been really challenging for you, especially at such a young age... Tell me more. How did it feel to get the 3-star call?"
"I… Um… Well, so… The first few seconds I felt like a sort of panic... 'cause I knew I just had to retain them. Is not like I had a choice. I had to retain 'em. Um... And then your brain does this weird thing where it just bypasses any sense of joy because you're just so overwhelmed, so caught up in the turmoil and the pressure, etc... And, um, I don't know... Anyway, I-I had to turn over a really slow table 'cause the, uh, entire United Nations Security Council was coming in, it was just another day in the office for me, I guess."
"So you're telling me you didn't enjoy those first 3 stars? This is like your fourth one, Carmy!"
"No, no, this is my first. Our first star and the only one that matters, actually, Carla."
And just as she was getting excited because he finally got her name right, and was about to dig deeper into his first star, she had to turn around because his face had changed. His eyes sparkled a different shade of blue and his jaw dropped slightly as a smile formed on his face, he looked happy and even hotter. So Carla followed his eyes and could see Sydney making a casual entrance, looking down at her phone, obviously texting. She was completely unaware of the effect her presence was having on the cook Carla was trying to make a move on.
"Syd!" His smile said it all, he didn't need to complete that sentence.
"Oh!" Was all that Carla managed to say. She was not loving it but masked it pretty well.
So the interview continued but with all 4 stars in the spotlight: The Michelin Star, Carmy, Sydney, and Natalie, who Syd made sure to include. Even Richie and the rest of the team made an appearance. After they all had their moment in the sun and thanked her for coming, Carla thanked them for their time and left the premises with a very well-composed tune based on all the instruments of The Bear, but also empty-handed and still very much single and ready to mingle with her nightly schedule fully open. Carmy had not taken the bait, but apparently, he was already taken and he made sure to mention it.
Carla was defeated, but couldn't help but admit that Carmy and Sydney looked perfect together, the chemistry was painfully obvious. As was their mutual love. She felt frustrated, but in spite of herself, she was now rooting for them. They were now her "couple goals". After spending an hour with them, she didn't just want Carmy, even though she knew it was never going to happen, she wanted what Syd and Carmy had.
Her last question for Carmy had been "So is there a memento or some sort of souvenir you got to commemorate this Star forever, seeing as you mentioned that you had already retained 3 before, but this one was the only one that really mattered to you?"
"Yes actually. I-I- um... I got a tattoo, right here, this star is gonna be here forever." He pointed at his heart and looked straight at Sydney. Her eyes smiled in the sweetest way, looking right back at him and Carla felt like such a third wheel that she decided to end the interview right then and there. She didn't even ask Syd if she got a memento or a tattoo too for the same reason.
She could guess she probably did and her intuition wouldn't have failed her. She would have been right on the money on that one. Syd did get a tattoo to commemorate her first Michelin star. It was The Bear logo that Carmy had designed when he first pitched the franchise idea to Michael and it was forever inked in a place south of her back where only her Bear had access to.

So, I have been watching Emesis Blue three times now, and I had just noticed that during that one scene when the detective (Spy) and Jane (Soldier) were searching (I think) Scout's mothers apartment, you can hear the chief of police ask if they're actually real detectives. Now, the names that Spy used for them were "Detective Mannix" and "Lieutenant Columbo". I randomly decided to search these names up on my computer and guess what I found
Tumblr media Tumblr media
They were actual detective shows that were made in the 60s when Emesis Blue takes place
Now, another thing I want to add is the descriptions of these shows
Columbo
""Columbo" isn't the typical detective whodunit TV show. On most detective shows, viewers don't know who committed the crime until the detective pieces the clues together and figures it out. On this show, however, viewers see the crime unfold at the beginning of most episodes, including who the perpetrator is. The mystery and fun for viewers is trying to spot the clues that will lead Lt. Columbo (Peter Falk) to discover the culprit and watching the tricks he uses to get a confession. Episodes of "Columbo" were movie-length and ran sporadically on multiple networks during its run."
Mannix
"Joe Mannix is a Los Angeles-based detective who ends up taking a lot of punishment. When the show starts, he works for a large L.A. detective agency, Intertect. But beginning in season two, he sets out on his own and becomes a private investigator, assisted by loyal secretary Peggy Fair, the widow of a police officer. In the course of solving crimes, he can be expected to be shot, beaten, knocked unconscious, driven off the road or similarly injured. But despite all the bodily trauma, Mannix always gets his man."
Now, I'd like you to read those descriptions if you haven't already and compare them to the characters those false names were given to.
If you don't want to read, I'll just tell you what I think.
When it comes to Lieutenant Columbo being compared to Jane, or Soldier, we need to bring up what actually happens in the show. During the episodes, the audience already knows who did the crime and how it happened, because it is revealed in the beginning. Comparing that to Soldier in Emesis Blue, the audience doesn't exactly know what is happening when we first see Soldier, but while also seeing Medic's story tie in with his, then the audience will know that Medic is just as confused as Soldier is and that Medic isn't the current villain at large. (Unless he is and it was actually him who murdered Scout's mother and then kidnapped Scout, to which I think most people assumed after seeing the big bloody M on the wall once Medic found out what had happened to Scout's mother, which does rlly help with the "its all revealed in the beginning thing".)
I'd also like to bring up that Columbo (according to Wikipedia) means, "someone who expresses the obvious while not being aware of its obviousness". It remeinded me of when Soldier overheard that phone call that Jules Archibald had with Blutarch, and then how after he hung up, immediately called Redmond about a "proposition". Now, it was obvious that Jules was only in it for the money, but the fact that it didn't seem like Soldier was at all shocked by that fact just makes me compare it to it being obvious how bad Jules was, and how it was Soldier who found out about it, but how it seemed like he didn't get it.
Now, when it comes to Mannix, it was said that at first, the detective was working for a company and, quote "took a lot of punishment" and in this case comparing him to Spy, Spy was working under Jules Archibald, who taught him how to kill his own teammates without guilt, and he ended up getting burned beyond recognition (rip bozo). In the second season of the show, the detective gets an assistant, who is the a widow of a police officer (for Spy, this would be Soldier, being a past war veteran) and going off on his own without the company. Now, the timelines are a little off here, but, when Spy killed Archibald, I would say it was almost like the equivalent of Detective Mannix going off on his own. At that point, Spy has already abandoned any hope in Soldier (as if he had any) but still had the tolerance not to kill him when he had his chance, still "working" with him in the end during Archibalds funeral (that got intruded by Medic, rip Spy, no one will miss u)
Now, I don't want to make assumptions, but I have a feeling that Detective Mannix did have something like a separation from his assistant just as these two did, just not as violent or horrifying or mentally damaging (if not, someone please correct me).
If any of y'all have anything else to add or if you would like to correct me or anything else like that, PLEASE DO BC I ACTUALLY HAVE NO IDEA WHAT I'M TALKING ABT AND THIS WAS JUST A RANDOM RANT THAT I THOUGHT ABOUT WHEN FINDING OUT ABOUT THIS AND WATCHING THE MOVIE.
(I put wayyyy too much effort into this HELP)
(Just know that I haven't watched any of the shows and this is all just based off the descriptions of them, but I would like to watch some episodes of them to see if anything that happens in the show is similar to Emesis Blue.)

I know fuck all about tf2 except for character names. Most I got is you and a few other mutuals posts, and they're 10/10. How does the game..... work exactly? Like is there plot? Is it first person shooter sort of thing? Is there a tf1?
I could google it but that's not nearly as fun
OH BOY GET READY FOR THE B I G R AM B L E
WHAT THE FUCK IS TF2?
It's a team based first person shooter published by Valve (of portal and half life fame) in 2007 with nine classes to choose from, each with strengths countered by other classes (for example, the Spy is often a counter against the Sniper and Engineer. Respectively, by picking off the Sniper with a quick, stealthy backstab or by destroying the Engineer's machines). The game has been free to play since 2009 (i think. grain of salt please), and has a healthy playerbase to this day, aside from the bots. But not every tf2 fan actually plays the game. I play sometimes, but mostly just rotate the characters in my brain like a microwave burrito.
It is ALSO, however, a multimedia franchise. Aside from the game, which shows off worldbuilding and characterization through the environment and character dialogue (as well as the update announcement flyers on the official blog), there are also animated shorts and comics created by Valve that further flesh out the world and characters of TF2. Frankly, I think you should give the Meet The Team shorts a go if nothing else. They're iconic. It's hard to pick favorites, but I'm partial to Meet the Medic (obviously), Meet the Engineer (which I can quote verbatim), and Meet the Sniper.
Broadly, the world and aesthetics of TF2 are based on 60's/70's cold war thrillers and spy movies. Think James Bond and the Manchurian Candidate. These impeccable vibes are then wrapped neatly in a cartoony artstyle that wasn't common at the time (and arguably still isn't. I'm pretending that fortnight doesnt exist, as is custom). On a related note, the soundtrack FUCKS SEVERELY. Like. They just DO. They have influence from Jazz, Funk, and miltary marching songs, with more specific influences for individual characters (ex: country western for engineer, polka for medic, and bagpipes for demoman)
An important thing to note is that every class is a play on some stereotype from the movies that inspired the vibes:
Heavy Weapons Guy is a husky ruskie and a man of few words, but he has hidden depths. He's a family man, most importantly, and has been supporting and protecting his mother and younger sisters since his father was killed when he was a teenager. He has a close bond with the Medic and speaks highly of the Engineer ("Engineer is credit to team!"). In a debatably canon piece of dialogue from TellTale's Poker Night At The Inventory, he is revealed to have a PhD in Russian Literature.
Engineer is a texan with 11 PhDs in hard science. He exudes southern hospitality and seems like the most sane man on the team. He also takes great joy in the death and destruction his weapons cause, and ALSO helps the Medic in performing deeply unethical experiments that go against the laws of nature for curiosity sake. He's the third in a line of engineers, btw, and his grandfather basically conquered death. Which isn't super relevant, but I feel is a good lead in to some of the wackier elements of this world I would like to mention.
And every character is like this to some degree. Some more so than others- Soldier is basically just "how american can a man be before it starts impacting his mental health" and Pyro is unknown in terms of nationality, gender, and background
TF2 has a plot by the way! Yes, there is a reason for these many dudes in funny hats to be fighting. They are fighting over gravel. Yeah. So, these two brothers are fighting over land willed to them by their father (who died in the 1890's) which is largely useless aside from having a lot of gravel. Their names are Redmond and Blutarch Mann, and they're the ceos of their own corporations. Reliable Excavation & Demolitions (RED) and Builder's League United (BLU) respectively. They each hired mercenaries to fight a proxy war for them with the goal of owning it all. All the while, a third party, The Administrator, has been playing both sides of the Gravel War to keep it going as long as possible. Why? It's a mystery...
RAPID FIRE TF2 WORLDBUILDING BULLSHITTERY BE UPON YE:
(most of this is just stupid shit that was made up for Pure Random Funny HaHa and has very little bearing on the plot, but tells you a LOT about the tone of the franchise)
Rocket Jumping (that is, shooting a rocket propelled grenade at your feet and crouch-jumping at the same time to launch yourself into the air) was a technique pioneered by Shakespearicles, the STRONGEST POET TO EVER LIVE. He also invented the concept of a Second Floor in a building
Btw, stairs were not invented when the second floor was invented. I want you to take a wild guess how people got to the second floor before stairs were invented. (hint: it involves explosives)
Stairs were invented by Abraham Lincoln. He died due to rocket jumping up said stairs which caused him to accelerate rapidly into a wall. He was also the first Pyro in the 1890s.
New Zealand sank below the ocean sometime in the 40's. By which I mean it was intentionally sank because a Jor-el knockoff believed that the world was ending and that going underwater was the only way to save the nation.
CisMpreg exists. This fact is Medic's fault.
OK But What About Team Fortress 1?
So, its. Not complicated but it's not exactly simple. Quick answer, the original TF game has nothing to do with TF2. Team Fortress was originally a mod for the game Quake and has the same basic gameplay premise as it's successors (team based FPS with 9 classes) and quite a few maps have actually been remade for TF2. It was released in 1996, so, as TF2 was taking A Very Long Time to complete, Valve released a sort of... updated version that was meant to hold fans over. It uses the half life 2 engine, I believe, and was released in 1999. It is called Team Fortress Classic and it's only a LITTLE confusing to research I swear.
TFC takes place in the same universe as TF2, but in the 1930's instead of the 60's. Ignore the scifi/modern looking tech. Don't worry about it. This has no bearing on TFC, really, because it was only confirmed in one of the comics released in 2014. The TFC team matters to the comic plot, but is otherwise kinda just. there. Like, they only exist in the Mann Co No More story line and otherwise just exist.
Fun fact: TFC (the game) was updated to change the ingame class models to more accurately represent the appearance given to them in the comics.
For example, look at the glow up given to the TFC Medic! (original on the left, updated on the right)
Tumblr media
In Conclusion:
I will be surprised anyone actually reads all of this, but that is my rambling summary of what in the fuck TF2 is. To be fair, the game is richly detailed but also kinda sparse at the same time. Its all vibes and interpretation my dude. Honestly I think what has made TF2 so popular and long lasting (lore wise) is related to what early FNAF games had going on
