Hey, so I’d like to say thank you to all who are accepting us Reddit refugees. As someone who’s always wanted to get into Tumblr, I guess I never officially did, until the Reddit blackout. I mean I created an account a while back to lurk at awesome and lovely fanart but this recent controversy made me flee here.

Been kinda sad, disappointed, but not surprised that Reddit is heading towards the direction thanks to spez.

BIGGEST ACCOMPLISHMENT

“Are you getting my best angles?” Harry jokingly told Lloyd, his photographer, as he snapped picture after picture of him in front of his brand new banner.

“HARRY STYLES. 15 CONSECUTIVE NIGHTS AT THE GARDEN”

That was what he achieved. No other artist or band had done that in the past, and he couldn’t have done it without the support of his fans, and most importantly, the support of his loving wife and perfect son.

The little family of three couldn’t be happier, specially Harry, having his little one year old boy with him on tour for the first time was something he always dreamed of, and he was grateful that his wife agreed to take him on the road with him.

“Hold on let me get my bubba, I want a few shots with him,” Harry spoke again, getting up from his position on the floor and walking towards his dressing room, he knew he would find his wife and baby there.

And there they were, wearing their very own Love On Tour customized hoodies and watching some cartoons on the dressing room’s leather couch. Harry couldn’t help but smile at the sight of his little boy dressed in a mini version of his merch and cuddling to his mom’s side, that sight alone reminded him of how lucky he was to have his perfect family.

“Do you mind if I take the bubba for a minute? I want some pictures with him in front of the banner,” Harry said while he approached the leather couch, squeezing next to his baby, and spreading his arm on the back of it so he could reach the nape of his wife’s neck and place his hand there, softly caressing it.

“Of course I don’t, honey. I was actually going to suggest the same thing,” her voice was so soft and tender, and Harry couldn’t help but grab the back of her neck and pull her in for a kiss, because even though they’ve been together for ten years, married for five and one as parents, the woman in front of him still gave him butterflies like a teenager with a crush.

“Mmkay’ we’ll be right back,” he grabbed his baby in his arms and directed them towards where Lloyd was waiting for them, ready to keep snapping pictures “You’re going to take some pictures with daddy, bubba? You’re going to smile as big as you can for our friend Lloyd?” Harry cooed at his baby boy, who only put his little hands on his face, a habit that he had been picking up lately and Harry and his wife found absolutely adorable.

He crouched down on the floor again so Lloyd could go back to taking pictures, but this time, he placed his little boy on his lap, grabbing him by his sides and putting his face close to his, tickling him a bit so he could crack a smile “Come on baby, give the camera a big smile!” and the little boy managed to pull a little, almost toothless grin, making the picture the most adorable thing ever.

“I think we have enough shots, your baby is actually so photogenic, mate,” Lloyd told his boss and friend, as he showed him the pictures he snapped, his baby was in fact, the most photogenic baby ever.

“I know, he’s perfect,” his words were filled with adoration for the boy in his arms, a mixture of his wife and him, and a product of all the love they have for each other, “I love you, bubba,” he pecked his cheek multiple times. He might have just made history at the world’s most famous arena, but being a dad was still his biggest achievement.

Last Thursday I called in sick to physical therapy. I told them I had Fairitis. Receptionist laughed & said, “I had that yesterday.” 😆. We go to look at the animals & the art &, of course, eat fair food.

For some reason people kept offering to let me pet/hold their animals! First a very nice 10-ish year old girl approached & asked if I wanted to hold her chicken. Which I did indeed. In all my years around farms, I’ve never actually *held* a chicken. She told us a lot of information about chickens, was very knowledgeable and very polite. She had won first place for her chickens - the one I was holding, and then also she had the largest chicken I have ever seen in my life. She explained to us that even though it wasn’t an egg chicken, they fed it really good food that you would normally only feed to an egg chicken and that’s how it got so big. It made me wonder - and if anyone involved with 4H knows this - do the judges just judge based on the animal or do they talk to the child as well and judge also based on how knowledgeable the child is about the animal’s care? Because if that’s the case, no wonder this young lady won a couple of first place prizes.

Then we were walking through the bunnies and a girl who was about 8 years old was sitting, holding her bunny, and offered me to hold it. It was called a lionhead bunny. Not only had I never seen one, I’d never heard of one. I was so busy holding it, I forgot to get a photo. But search lionhead bunny on the Internet because they are the coolest looking rabbits I’ve ever seen.

Later when we were at the goats, I was taking some photos of some baby goats in the pen and the grandpa was sitting there and he said , “I’ll let them out. You can give them some pets.” He told us he used to come to the fair and when he would see certain kids weren’t able to sell their goats, he would offer to buy them, just to be nice. But then he said that goats are so funny and entertaining, that he really got into them. And when his grandson had to come live with them, the grandson got into 4H. So he went from being a 4H supporter to a 4H parent.

And when we were walking through the horse area and there was a horse in the way, and the teenager was trying to move him to the side to get out of the way of my wheelchair, and we were allowed to pet the horse.

And of course, we looked at all of the art and photography. As an artist, I love all of that stuff. (Posted some photos of the art on my FB, but not putting any here because Tumblr is a reblog site & it’s not my art. Animals are fair game though. Get it, *fair* game?)

Also, there was this plant and a group of people walking in front of us and all of a sudden the plant moved and reached out towards them and started to speak. The people in front of us jumped so high and screamed so loud. It was hysterical! Turned out there was a guy in that plant and the whole thing was a costume that he and his wife made together. He was just standing there, startling people as they walked by. He was super nice. He talked to us about his costume and let me have a photo with him.

And then we ate fair food and went home. It was perfect weather last Thursday. We were initially gonna go on Monday because that was also a work from home day for Sis, but the weather had been terrible. But on Thursday I got up and it was absolutely gorgeous and I said, “Screw physical therapy. We’re going to the fair. I want funnel cake!”

Bit of a long post ahead. It's discourse and fandom discussion, so scroll on by if that's not your thing.

I see drama, but I usually don't comment on it.

I will, however, just say this: If there are things you don't want to see, people who interact with content you don't like or actually creates that content (the absolute nerve of them, I know), or content/blogs that just don't flow with the mood you want for your blog...

Block them. Unfollow them. Blacklist tags. Purity in fandom is impossible. You won't get it. What is acceptable to you is unacceptable to someone else. The best thing you can do is use the tools available to you to chuck those things right over the wall that surrounds your blog. You are responsible for what you let inside your walls, no one else can make those decisions for you.

Regarding DNIs, I think if you have one other people should take that into consideration. It's not perfect, but it's one of the tools you can use. Regarding the most recent drama (it's mostly on Twitter, and a week old at this point), if you have DNI'd something and now you're removing that because some big name artists are blocking certain DNIs, I don't know what to tell you. They've done as was asked of them and this makes it harder for those accounts that you actually don't want to interact with you to stay over in their area and not bother you.

Some time ago I put in my bio that I didn't have a DNI. It wasn't in response to any particular fandom thing or discourse, just what I talked about above. I think most of us are doing our best to curate our blogs, stay in our lanes, and have fun here. I would bet, though, that somewhere in the blog of probably every person that follows me, and every person that I follow, there is a post (or several) that hit a very specific DNI for someone, even if you think you're being as careful and mindful as you can. If your blog has a pink theme I guarantee there is someone out there who has a DNI made specifically for you because they hate the color pink.

I check DNIs before I follow anyone, and I block tags that are specific to the things that I don't want to see. That's it. I know it's probably not the "acceptable" way to be in fandom anymore, but I don't have the time, energy, or desire to interact with things I don't like, particularly to tell other people how they're wrong.

If you've followed my blog long enough, you've probably noticed a lack of certain ships, even though I haven't posted a DNI warning away followers that do post those ships. I don't really even have to mention which ships they are. We all know what ships they are. I blocked the relevant tags. I hardly ever see that one sequel ship, or that popular Mando ship that I absolutely despise, because artists and writers are generally very good at tagging, and fandom is really good at creating ship names that are easy to block.

I try my best to be mindful of the things that I post and reblog. I didn't create this blog to upset anyone, I created it to share my love for Star Wars. I think most of us created our blogs for much the same reason. I have not always done the best in how I wanted to curate my blog, and I'm sure that I'll fall short in the future, too. I'm not perfect, and because of that I don't insist on perfection in others.

Anyway, tomorrow is going to be a good day to be a Star Wars fan. We will love some things, and we will hate some things, but we're all in the same fandom. The only thing I can guarantee anyone is that there will not be 100% consensus with how the fandom feels about either show tomorrow, but there will probably be someone updating their DNI to "DNI if you support Bo-Katan as Mand'alor".

1.) WHO CAN PARTICIPATE?

Anyone is allowed to take part in this event. We will be collecting the works on Ao3, Tumblr, and Twitter if applicable. Hate in any form will NOT be tolerated. Bullying in this community-centric event will result in immediate disqualification, blocking, and banning.

2.) WHAT CAN I POST?

This is a BruClark centered event. BruClark in ANY form is accepted, whether it be in capes or out  of them. Please do take note that this is not a Batfam/Superfam event. As much as we love TimKon, CassKon, Dickara, etc. this is reserved for Bruce Wayne and Clark Kent *or alternate versions of them (Ultraman, Owlman, Flashpoint!Batman, etc.)

We’re accepting fics, multi-chapter WIPs, artwork, edits, and really anything else BruClark related. Please remember to tag and rate your works appropriately.

NSFW and dark/mature content is absolutely allowed. Please be sure to rate it appropriately. Absolutely no sexualization of minors is allowed.

We’re looking at 3 prompts per day to give you some options. You only need to include one prompt, but you can use more.

4.) WHAT CAN I MAKE?

Any kind of fanfiction, fanart, edit, headcanon, etc. is acceptable. We are not allowing photography of real people, not any sexualization of a minor.

5.) AM I ALLOWED TO INCLUDE OTHER SHIPS OUTSIDE OF BRUCLARK?

Yes! In fact, we encourage the acknowledgement of past relationships Bruce and Clark may have had. We understand and love how important Lois Lane, Selina Kyle, Talia Al Ghul, etc. have been to their growth and lore. Polyships are allowed (The Trinity, BruClois) - however please keep the focus on the relationship between Bruce Wayne and Clark Kent.

6.) CAN I INCLUDE OTHER VERSIONS OF SUPERBAT?

So long as they include Bruce Wayne/Clark Kent, or any alternate dimension versions of them. This may be Ultraman and Owlman, or the Justice Lords, or Flashpoint Superbat. Other Supers and other Bats are not the focus of this challenge. No TimKon, Dickara, CassKon, etc.

7.) HOW STRICTLY DO I HAVE TO FOLLOW THE PROMPT?

They’re entirely up for writer/artist interpretation! Write/Draw what the prompt inspires from you.

8.) DO I HAVE TO OPERATE IN A CERTAIN CANON?

Nope. AUs and timelines are totally up to you.

I really can't believe I'm in a position to know so many great people on here! I’m so thankful that each and everyone of you are so welcoming. Alex ze Pirate Mini Review 5: Why I love One Piece and my final verdict

(Warning. Post contains initial geek out about One Piece that is meant to correlate to my opinion on Alex in general)

When I started this series of posts, one thing I asked myself was, how could I sum up my problems with the Sam story while also tackling some general issues with AzP without redundantly repeating major points of my previous posts.

… So I decided instead of giving a straight answer, I would first tell you how I came to fall in love with One Piece.

Around 14+ years ago, I began reading manga, with works such as Ranma 1/2, Pokemon and Dragon Ball being my starting point. You know, the average stuff everyone had read at some point. One Piece, already back then consisting of over 25+ volumes,  was only something a friend started to lend me and I read the first seven volumes, not really quite getting why it was that popular. I did not hate what I read, but there was nothing outright standing out to me the way the story was told that got to me. And then I hit the Arlong arc with volume 8 and onwards. While it was mostly the adventure of Luffy with his crew against Crocodile and his Baroque Corporation that totally sold me on the manga later on, the Arlong arc was what really got my attention. Seeing the character of Nami betray her friends, pieces of worldbuilding that would years later play a role and so much more, made me curious where things were going. Particularly, why Nami would betray Luffy. And when I reached chapter 77 to 81, where I got to read Nami’s backstory, how Arlong killed her adoptive mother in front of her eyes when she was just a little kid and Luffy declaring he was going to help her and her village, I was hooked. This was the first time in my life as a manga reader, I was not just entertained, I was emotionally invested. Because not only was Nami’s backstory genuinely saddening to me, but seeing Luffy determined to help her and the ensuing battles was exciting. Exciting because it truly showed to me, how awesome of a character this goofball with stretching powers really is. Not because he was physically strong, but because he was willing to do all of that for someone just “because” he considers that person a friend. Seeing Luffy not just beat up Arlong, but destroying everything this bastard had build on the suffering of the village and in doing so setting Nami free of the past that haunted her, because he cared for her as a person not in a romantic but platonic manner, was satisfying on so many levels.

 And ever since then Eiichiro Oda proved to me time and time again, even if he hits a bump in the road (seriously, fuck most of the Fishmen Island arc) he knows how to write a world that doesn’t just manage to be cartoonishly entertaining, but also filled with heartfelt moments, where true heroism is not defined just by physical strength, but the willingness of the main characters to help and care for each other and the people they meet across the journey. There are many stories out there where the power of friendship as a virtue, and the virtues it is build on are a theme. But in the world of shonen manga, One Piece for me is still the top.

 And Andrew Dobson’s Alex ze Pirate is the complete antithesis to everything Oda EVER created in One Piece.

 While One Piece has one of the most complex worlds I have ever seen in fiction, with Oda often times setting building stones for future story arcs years in advance (seriously, the thing with Brook and Laboon alone is worth mentioning) , Dobson can’t even bother to properly tell us in what part of the ocean Alex has her adventure or why there is a beaver dog thing walking around a bunch of humans.

 While One Piece has some gorgeous artwork and unique designs with an insane level of cartoonish detail, Dobson has some very generic designs and draws like a 15 year old girl that read Spirou and manga too much and now starts doing scribble artwork.

 While Oda draws chapters for over 20 years now, Dobson could not even bother to finish up the adventure of the crew getting properly together back in 2004, as only one volume was released.

 While One piece tells a story that defines the shonen genre for over a decade, Dobson tells stupid newspaper strip jokes that are not even interconnected much.

 While Oda’s Strawhats are the embodiment of the word nakama, Dobson’s characters only bring the following old saying to mind:

 With friends like this, who needs enemies?

 Bottom line, Alex ze Pirate is absolute garbage as a work of entertainment, particularly in the world of kids entertainment. It was so already long before Dobson wrote the three part story I reviewed in detail, but this story in my opinion was for anyone with a bit of brains the last nail in the coffin. Cause overall, this was likely Dobson’s last chance in his and the eyes of the readers.

 The last chance, because he was going to put all his talent as a writer and artist into this one story to prove his critics wrong; That he could tell an engaging and emotionally fulfilling story in a multi part story, longer than his 15 pagers. But like with everything else I have seen so far, he failed.

 He failed artistically, because damn does this not look even remotely professional compared to other professionally published work or even other silly webcomics like Cludscratcher or Housepets (which I highly recommend you to read).

 He failed as a storywriter, because instead of emotionally engaging and well paced, this shit is rushed, works more on “tell, don’t show” than anything else and really just magnifies the worst aspects of his characters and Dobson’s mean spirited humor in general. Cause this is not a tale where we feel like Sam genuinely has found a family and friends in Alex and her crew. It is the tale of Sam just accepting that he has nothing better going on in his life.

 He failed, because instead of actually putting care, effort and love for his characters and work into this, he likely just wanted to get it out and hope that just because he “put effort” into this more than usual, he would already get praise by default.

 And once this thing was out, all that happened was the following: Even more people realized what kind of hack he is, that this project was not going to be salvaged even if actual stories instead of strip based jokes are told and he misinterpreted the disinterest as reason to just completely give up, instead of trying harder.

 And as a result, even if Dobson still went on to do shitty redesigns and a few more pages for it, Alex ze Pirate soon after ended. Put into everlasting hiatus, where it joins such work as Pilote Candidate or Frank Millers All Star Batman and Robin.

 Dobson, if you ever read this, let me just say it how it is: You failing to make even the most basic story about people appreciating their friends, particularly when within the last decade there has been an entire fandom of manchildren out there that was build on a show with “Friendship is Magic” in the title, just shows how bad of a storyteller and creator you are. You shouldn’t have gone to college in order to become an animator, you should have joined fanfiction.net in order to get some basic understanding on how to even write. Cause your writing is so bad, it makes fanfiction look genuinely complex and thoughtful. Well that and you should perhaps go out and find genuinely friends and not just online supporters that mistake you for some persecuted innocent artist, when in reality you are just a toxic idiot who attempts to manipulate people so he can profit of them and their fleeting interest in his substandard comics based on the lowest common denominator cartoons.

 I wrap this review up. We will revisit Alex one day again, but for now, I just want to focus on something more positive. So within the next weeks, if I post something, I will try to make it focused on something NOT Dobson related. You know, stuff to genuinely enjoy. Till then, I just want to say thank you. Based on the response you gave in the last reblogged post, you said that Callum learns magic to "protect his loved ones." Isn't Rayla supposed to be the protector?

First off, thank you, anon, for being my very first question! I appreciate you had read what I had written about Callum, and came up with some of your own thoughts as well!

So, the simple answer to your question is: Yes, Rayla is certainly a protector. That doesn’t detract or contradict what I said about Callum wanting to protect his loved ones as well, which he absolutely does.

I think what you might be referring to is the fact that Rayla’s character arc is about her, being a trained instrument of death, realizing that being a protector of life feels much more right for her. Rayla realizing she wants to protect others is integral to her character’s journey.

It’s not integral to Callum’s for one simple reason: he’s always been protective, particularly of his loved ones.

In fact, his character arc is an inversion of Rayla’s--Rayla is already a skilled warrior, but is trying to figure out what she wants to do with those skills.

But for Callum, protecting his loved ones is part of who he is. And who can blame him? He lost his father, his mother, and stepfather, and almost lost his brother and the love of his life on several occasions each. He’s going to want to protect the people he has left.

Callum’s arc involved developing the ability to defend others, the kind of ability Rayla takes for granted.

This was the case from the very first episode: when Callum finds out that assassins are coming to kill his step-dad, the very next scene he shows up ready to go with Soren to attack them.

Why? Because he must.

He’s in ceremonial armor, which would only weigh him down without doing much to protect him from an assassin’s blade. He knows he can barely hold a sword and has fallen off every horse he’s ridden (a streak he was not about to break that day). While his stepfather is an accomplished warrior, with some of the best fighters in the Five Kingdoms at his beck and call. Callum could do very little to defend him, and would probably wind up getting killed if he tried to.

It did not matter to him. He was going to try and protect his father, because to Callum, that’s simply what you do for the people you love.

This also does a good job highlighting the fact that it doesn’t matter their relative skill level. Just because King Harrow is a warrior and Callum is not won’t deter the precocious 14-year old. If you’re important to him, he’ll defend you with his life.

It’s for this reason that it initially bothers him that he’s “always been bad at everything,” or “can’t do anything,” or that without magic, he’s “nothing.” These are obviously untrue assertions (something that Rayla, Ezran, Ellis, and others never believed were true). But while Callum knows he’s good at some things (he’s very confident about his artistic abilities, for instance), he didn’t think he was good at anything that would protect the people in his life.

Notably, Ezran.

When he jumped into a frozen lake, Callum’s first instinct was to go after him.

Ezran is probably the main reason Callum is this way. He always had to take care of his little brother, and knowng that he was going to be king meant knowing just how much support and protection he would have to be prepared to give him.  

For his entire life, he was likely preparing for that responsibility. As Harrow tells him:

This probably isn’t the first time Harrow told Callum something along these lines. It was always expected of him to advise and to protect Ezran, both as his brother and later as his King. As a result, Callum grew up becoming attentive and protective of him.

And, when he fell in love with Rayla, we seem him become noticeably more attentive and protective of her too.

He rushes to her when she’s unconscious.

And when the battle against Viren’s army is over, Callum barely takes a moment before his thoughts immediately turn to Rayla’s safety and well-being.

You can see in his gaze right there, that he’s worried about her. What if something had happened? What if something is wrong? Callum ponders. He doesn’t take a breath or rest on his laurels, instead racing up the Storm Spire to make sure she and Zym are safe and sound.

Rayla has certainly come a long way, and ended Book 3 as a hero and a protector. But for Callum, being protective comes naturally and instinctively, and it drives his pursuit to learn magic.

I said in a previous post that for Callum, learning magic has almost always come in response to a need, rather than a desire. His need to protect his loved ones drives his growing magical abilities.

Here’s what I mean:

While there are small exceptions, whenever Callum tries to learn magic for its own sake, he usually doesn’t get very far.

In Book 1, he runs into Claudia in the library, and brings up how interested he is in learning magic. But then she runs off without giving him any useful tips or advice.

In Book 2, Callum tries to learn Moon magic from Lujanne, but she rebuffs him.

In Book 3, Callum tries to learn Sky magic from Ibis. He tells Callum to leave.

But in each of these moments, he takes small pieces of information with him, and when he or his friends are in danger or need his help, the pieces click and he’s able to perform new magic.

The biggest moment is with his mage wings. When he tries to conjure them the first time, he can’t do it.

But when he’s trying to save Rayla, somehow, he can.

Part of this involves Callum being able to work well under pressure, but it also stems from the fact that his magical abilities develop in response to how much he needs them to.

He needs the aspiro spell to work to save the group from Claudia’s shadow dogs.

He needs to wake up from his coma.

He needs to save Rayla from falling to her death.

Callum is a very interesting microcosm of the Narrative of Love in action—his strength stems from love, and the need to protect that love. And yea, because of that’s tied to how he’s learned magic thus far, it’s likely going to continue to push him to learn as much as he can, perhaps becoming one of the most powerful characters in the show. Who knows?

I accidentally wrote a mini-meta here. Honestly, this answer deserves a much longer meta than I have time to write at the moment. I promise that it’s on my mind to flesh this topic out some more in the next few weeks (if I can hold your attention for that long). but the main takeaway should be that: Callum is a protector. He’s always been protective, and those instincts are what drive him to learn new magic, whether he’s aware of that or not.

That doesn’t take away from Rayla’s journey, nor does it imply their relationship isn’t a two-way street: they’ve both had to protect each other.

Because after all, that’s what you do for the people you love.

A little info for those who remember Date by Daylight or are in general interested bout stuff AKA my feelings for DBD

I don’t think i’ve ever really wrote this down or anything - and i saw someone reblog an old post about my game project Date by Daylight, so i feel i should say something to all this dbd stuff.

I loved dbd a lot. Really. I played every day, got my friend into it, had an amazing time and the majority of interactions with the fandom on here was just lovely (of course there are always assholes, so yeh)

Since i studied game making, am an actual professional artist (still feels weird to say it) and loved dbd and shitposts, i figured it only  make sense to make a whacky dating sim. And i worked on it a lot. Got a few scenes done etc - but sadly i fell out of love with the game due to the devs and community.

Now i’m not planning on quitting this blog, cause i still appreciate all of you, and those i interact with - though often thirsty af (relatable) you’re all very cool.

But i stopped playing dbd a long time ago. It was fun, but really not anymore.

When i first stopped, it was because i couldn’t get into games anymore. I would sit here for half an hour, just to get into a lobby that closed a few seconds after me entering. When i played as herman i sometimes had to wait an hour to get more than two survivors. It got frustrating. Not because of the wait, i could deal with that! But because the matches were terrible.

If i was playing as a survivor, the killer was almost always camping and/or tunneling or the other survivors were just assholes to other survivors or the killer.

When i played as killer (which i usually do) i would far too often end up with survivors that would rather run around you in circles, blinding you with flashlights instead of working on gens and actually playing - and then send you death threats when you pick them up one after the other and hook them.

Even when everything went well, and i usually have the rule, that if the players were nice and i technically manage to hook all, i will let the last one escape (or all if we just chill and farm). Yet TOO OFTEN people insult me etc when i let them escape.

So, you see, my point is this. No matter what i do. No matter how i play or who i play. I can’t just enjoy a game.

And i used to watch the streams. I even got my fanart into a stream, where the devs just made fun of me. I was fine with it back then, but i noticed that they just do not care. I remember that one person on the stream said they don’t want to stop killers from camping, because they think it’s funny.

It absolutely feels like they do not care for the community and do not understand their own game. And i do not want to support this. I feel no passion for this game coming from the creators. Nothing. And it’s sad.

So i will not continue work on a dating sim for a game that i do not play or enjoy anymore.

I still like herman carter, i guess. I don’t want to milk this blog or anything. I just want to keep it going the way it is cause i want to ignore the actual bullshit that’s happening.

And i hate to be that guy as well, but i wanna draw a little side by side comparison with warframe here.

A friend of mine got me into warframe and that really made me realize how terrible dead by daylight has become.

Warframe is a game where you can feel love and passion coming from everyone who works on the game, with a lot of interaction with the community.

I got to interact with the voice actors of my favorite characters and they are incredible chill dudes.

It doesn’t feel like stuff is happening out of your control. It feels like - and factually  they listen to the community. and do their best to make their players happy. That is a team of down to earth, passionate people.

While all i feel from BHVR is coldness. And i might just be wrong, but it’s my feeling.

The last straw to me was when dbd and warframe both did surveys.

Warframes: fun, humor, very selfaware, asking people what they want next and how they feel about everything (and you were allowed one swear as a treat)

Dead by Daylight: - yeah let’s be real. They included “toxic community” in one of their asks. If you are so painfully obviously aware that you have such a toxic community.... maybe - just maybe, try to change it. It is possible. 

So i am sorry for this LONG post. Please, if you get mad at what i said here, don’t attack me. This is my experience and my opportunity. If you like the game and have fun playing it - Great! i won’t stop you.

I just personally don’t want to support something that makes me so sad and frustrates me. The most threats and hate i’ve ever gotten from any community so far, was from the dbd community. It’s sad but true.

backhanded compliments & the art of commenting on other people’s creative content without being a complete twat waffle

WARNING: This is a long post.

I'm a word person. That's probably why, when I do find myself becoming irritated by someone else's unsolicited critique, it is almost always due to their choice of words. Words are important and very powerful. Words have different meaning to different people. Which is why we need to take care when choosing them.

Now, whenever possible, I will click on the profile of the person who left the unsolicited critique and try to get a feel for what type of person they are. Just so I can better understand why they might have left the comment in question. If it is clear they are not a native English speaker, I stop right there. Learning a foreign language is hard. English is one of the most ridiculous languages on the planet. So, mastering its nuances is a challenge for someone who may not have grown up using it. I’m sure I have offended at least one person with my Spanish, at some point. I’m working on it.

BACKHANDED COMPLIMENTS

When I say choice of words, I am implying almost exclusively to something known as a backhanded compliment. A backhanded compliment is a statement that seems, on the surface, to be positive, but is actually an insult. If you are not familiar with the backhanded compliment, I direct you to the mom from American Beauty who says to her teenage daughter "Honey, I'm so proud of you. I watched you very closely, and you didn't screw up once!"

There are a lot of reasons why people make such comments. It would be reductive to suggest they are all suffering from some form of insecurity, although many of them probably are. Some may genuinely believe that they are being helpful. Others may be jealous of the attention another person is receiving and want to either sabotage them or find a way to get in on the action. 

However, it is most likely that the type of person to give a backhanded compliment is either very young, very sheltered or very privileged. And thus, they may not realize that their opinion about something may not carry the same weight on the internet as it does in other venues. Or they may not realize that the world is filled with people who are more informed and more experienced than they are. They mistake their opinion for objective analysis and therefore, offer it freely and without hesitation.

Now, I would like to state that if you see something and you REALLY think it is problematic, you should absolutely offer your critique. Note: if you dislike or disagree with something, that does not make it problematic. Anything that promotes the maltreatment or marginalization of any living thing is problematic. Even so, you should stop and ask yourself whether your critique will accomplish anything or if it would be more worthwhile to simply report the post in question and move on.

That being said, here is MY analysis of some of the backhanded compliments I have received over the years (amalgamated for brevity), and a guide to leaving more constructive/supportive comments for the content creators in your life.

ARTWORK (including photography)

“Definitely not my style, but beautiful.” Do we need to know that it's not your style? If you think it's beautiful, just say that.

“This is so great, but it would have been better if you had used yellow instead of red!” Color choice is a creative choice and its value cannot be objectively measured. Just say it’s great and move on.

“Wow, this is way better than your old stuff.” Do I need to explain why this is bad? I hope not.

“Wow, you're really improving.” Slightly better than the previous one, but still bad. This is a really good example of something that might even feel like a compliment, but actually isn't. Saying that someone is improving is basically saying that it needed to improve. 

Unless you are speaking to your own student or a child, or a really close friend or family member who has openly shared with you their desire to improve as an artist, this is completely unnecessary.

It's important to remember that not everyone is doing things with the same objectives as you. Not every artist or photographer is aiming for technical mastery. If an artist creates something that is very personal and feels pleased with it, the last thing they want is for someone else to come along and tell them what’s “wrong” with it.

Really ANY comment that suggests that the piece of artwork in question would be improved if it were altered in some way is a no no. Unless you are an art teacher or someone has specifically asked for you to give them this information, or you are paying someone to make something especially for you.

FANFICTION (or really writing in general)

“Oh man...I was so excited when I saw your story summary, until I saw the pairing.” Do not comment on a story just to tell the author that you don't like their pairing. Ever. If you accidentally click on a story without seeing the pairing and you are disappointed, your feelings are valid. But there’s no need to let the author know.

"This was good but I don't think (character) would say (quoted dialogue)." Then, you should go and write a story with that character, but where they say different things.

"I noticed you used a semi-colon in the third paragraph. Semicolons are actually supposed to...." Critique grammar, punctuation, spelling and writing mechanics ONLY if you are the author's editor, the author's teacher, or if the author requested it. Period.

If you are commenting to point out what you believe to be a factual error, stop and ask yourself...is this really an error? Is the error intentional? Does the error represent the views of the author or the views of a specific character in a fictional work? Does this story have a reliable narrator? If not, might that narrator be misinformed or biased? And the most important question to ask yourself before correcting an author...do I actually know what the fuck I'm talking about?

Once, in a story, I referenced Copernicus and mentioned that he was imprisoned by the Catholic church. Which we know that he was. Someone commented to leave a long, bullet pointed explanation for how this is a common misconception and that the Catholic Church never mistreated Copernicus, along with many links to articles and videos as evidence. Guess who made all the articles and videos? The Catholic Church. SKIP!

When commenting on a fictional work, consider letting the author know how the story is making you feel. Speculate about what you think might happen next. Express excitement and anticipation. Ask a question for clarification about what you just read. And you can never go wrong by simply thanking the author for taking the time to provide you with free entertainment.

MEMES & JOKES

I love to make people laugh. I have been making people laugh since I learned to talk. This was actually bourne out of an inability to interpret facial expressions. I couldn't tell when people were angry or annoyed. But when they were laughing, I knew exactly how they felt.

That being said, people on the internet LOVE to tell me when something isn't funny. The only problem with this is that humor is very subjective and often very esoteric. I have made memes that I knew were esoteric and knew that not everyone would understand them. I have memes just for birdwatchers. Hell, I have made memes just for a dozen people who participated in a specific academic discussion. But it amazes me how people who don't get a joke are often most compelled to comment and let me know that it isn't funny. How can you know if you don't understand it? Is it so hard to imagine that things exist for which you are not the intended audience?

It's perfectly okay to comment and say you don't understand, and ask for an explanation. But if you look at something and think "I don't understand this, therefore it lacks value" you may have some growing up to do.

Before reblogging someone else's joke to add to the joke, stop and ask yourself whether your intention is to correct or improve upon the joke, or if you are attempting to laugh along WITH the OP.

We've all done this, I'm sure. I know I have. But it really inconsiderate to hijack someone's meme, meta or artwork with a completely unrelated discussion. I can't tell you how annoying it is to post something and check my inbox days later, only to find pages of notifications of people reblogging my shit over and over as part of some completely unrelated discussion.

Once again, if you're commenting to point out a factual error, ask yourself whether the error was intentional. I recently made a meme about the Star Trek films in which Data uses contractions. All of his dialogue is ridiculously out of character, in fact. Which is kind of part of the joke. But someone felt the need to reblog AND comment to let me know that Data wouldn't say that because he doesn't use contractions. Which I already know. Because, well, I’ve been a ST:TNG fan since the day it first aired on TV. I don't even know what to do with a comment that, to be honest. I kind of feel sorry for the other person for not grasping the joke.

So, how DO you compliment someone whose work you enjoy? Imagine yourself speaking to them in person. Imagine that they are emotionally invested in whatever they have created. Consider your objective. Are you expressing appreciation? Or is there something else going on.

And avoid qualifiers. 

When a compliment includes words like "if" or "but" then it's probably not a compliment. You would be so pretty IF you lost some weight is not a compliment.

Choose words that are unlikely to be misinterpreted. 

If someone's art or writing IS improving and you really want them to know, a good way to do that is to use the word evolving. Wow, I really like the way your art is evolving. This works because it implies that the art is changing over time, as the individual grows as a person.

I know what some of you might be thinking...ugh...it's like you can't say ANYTHING anymore! Aww...boo hoo, fam. As a person on the spectrum, I’ve spent my entire life dancing around other people’s feelings, navigating neurotypical subtext and struggling to say things without offending anyone. This is a cake walk compared to that. And I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but if actually thinking about how other people feel BEFORE you share your opinion would require a great deal of effort on your part, it's possible that you're just an asshole.

TL;DR

Creators of original content are actual human beings with feelings. Don’t offer them unsolicited advice or criticism. Think before you comment.

I'm a newish artist on here and even my friends don't share my posts anymore. Idk what to do bc I keep seeing popular blogs like yours ask for signal boosts and no one bothers and my blog is so small? I feel like I'll never get any attention nvm commissions on here and twitter is almost worse for me.

Hi newish artist anon! Firstly, I don’t know what’s up with your friends, but I would hope they supported you and your work? I know what you mean, though, it’s been a rough period for creators of all types on this site, and I have a feeling it won’t get any better. The thing is, also, is that I’m not actually a popular blog. I have a largish sum of followers, but at this point I’ve become aware that a thousand of them are probably porn bots, and at least another 7 thousand or so are hacked accounts/abandoned of friends and mutuals that no longer post or use this site at all.(I say this after exploring some of my older follower’s accounts, a lot of the mutual followed accounts, and a lot more old friend accounts from people I haven’t heard from since 2015 or so.)

 SO many people have left, or were forced off this site, and it’s left a pretty big void for a lot creators like myself and others. It means that a lot of us, while once being decently ‘popular’ are now sort of stagnated to this ‘I have a lot of followers but half my friends are gone and a lot of the followers aren’t actual accounts anymore’ kind of place. Which means, with the whole anti-reblogging front going on, you just... go nowhere. Your posts don’t get outside of your bubble, especially when Tumblr does stuff like hides your posts with links from the tag. :/ 

On the other side of things, If you look at accounts like Pangur and Grim you can really see a difference in account activity and follower interaction. You’ll notice there’s a surplus of activity on multiple types of posts, from personal, to cats, to art, etc. (You’ll also notice a lot of negative stuff, which I honestly don’t miss from the time when I had a lot of activity on this blog lol) That kind of blog is what I would consider an actual ‘popular’ blog, especially since the owner does a lot of interactive posts and gets actual interactions with them. The point I’m trying to make with all this, is that there is no one true way to get interaction on this site, and I don’t really think there’s a perfect way to gain it without, honestly, luck. Even two years ago, I would say something like, ‘You may be able to get people’s attention by working hard at focusing on post times, popular trends, networking, working with other artists, joining zines, etc.’ But that just doesn’t work anymore. Hard work does not automatically equal popularity or give you attention and interactions, especially not on this site. 

Things have changed, unfortunately in a very negative way for creators, and we’re all sort of left trying to find a place that works like Tumblr used to. A place we can congregate yet have our personal spaces, while exploring our ‘likes’ and mutual fandoms etc. A place where a little extra work on your content and following trends and posting at good times was all you really needed to get at least some interactions and attention. 

Twitter is also not good at that, and I know a lot of my friends and mutuals are there and we are following one another, but Twitter is just not made for creators. It really just isn’t. It’s fast-paced, it’s styled for short, quippy responses to media and other people, and it’s terrible with image quality never mind the whole bad cropping situation. If you able, by luck and some hard work, to manage a following, even then there is no promise of interaction or commissions. People move on, people ‘like’ and skip to the next post, people ignore donations posts, people scroll past art if they can’t see the whole thing, people are looking at Twitter at midnight after a long day of work and have no energy to look at your kickstarter for your original work, people spend all day looking and talking about politics and are burnt out, etc. etc.  

I know this is... not a cheerful message for anyone, but I wanted to be honest. There isn’t one way to get attention for your work, and there is no promise that doing ‘one simple trick!’ will work for you when it worked for others. Just by asking and wanting to be proactive about this is a great way to get going, though!

That being said, I would love to reblog/retweet your work and never feel bad for asking me for a signal boost. Seriously, I may not be a popular blog but if you need commissions or donations and need a boost, It’s worth a try and I’m absolutely open to sharing your work and posts.

I love how he makes it out like I “tracked him down” on tumblr as if that’s some kind of stalker-ish behavior as if I didn’t just assume that his tumblr would probably be the same as his YouTube handle and as if I couldn’t find that basic information out in 2seconds just by @ing him because, ya know. And the reality is that, I know I certainly couldn’t have reacted that fast a la “immediately” as he claims I apparently did, *the seconded he responded* because, I was only aware that Cartoonshi even responded to me, one or two days after the fact that he reblogged my original post where I first @ -ed Cartoonshite, as I know that the time stamps in between both my original post and my original reply to cartoonshites reblog will probably tell so, we all know that’s a lie.

The reason cartoonshite is this angry is because I called him a creepy virgin and told him to get a life and blocked him and I can tell because at the very end of spouting all of his self important, exaggerated, babble on bullshit which contained bold face lies so good thing I didn’t read through anyway, he told me to “get a life”, but the reason I didn’t ~“immediately”~ in his own words, drop everything and reply to him “*the second he responded*” as he informed me I had apparently done so in his self important fantasy, but in my reality only two days after he had reblogged my original post, containing examples both his harassment of me as well as his fans, which cartoonshi also was so kind to inform me I had apparently deleted in his self important fantasy, was because I was too busy keeping up with the protests and sourcing information and making donations and buying a new set of bedding  from IrenHorrors Society6 to even notice him in my notes until two days later. Because that’s what people with actual lives that don’t revolve around being angry and bitter about what happens in western cartoons about magical children and making bad, angry, bitter videos about media aimed at pre-teen children and the political ramifications about the goings on in a fictional teenagers life do- Actually support artists and care about in real life people. When has Cartoonshi ever cared about or supported anyone? You can say it was harsh of me to bully this Virgin Weeaboo Britfuck but in my opinion any fully grown man who would respond to my personal concerns with: “LOL why are you so triggered?” deserves it and I don’t care what they have to say especally now since they blatantly spewing bold face lies after they’re the ones who made me throw up. Ok so you have misrepresented some stuff. I’m tired of Taylor bashing. Critique I get. But let’s get some facts straight.

Her first major political statement was not when she was releasing new music. It was in October last year before the November election. That’s when Trump said he liked her music 25% less. She had nothing coming out anytime soon when she did that.

Louis has a consistently terrible team that has only just started to improve. Do you really think he wouldn’t have marketed Just Like You more if he could have? It’s a good song, and it has important content that the general public should hear too. Don’t make his team’s failure into something honorable.

I used to be critical of Taylor for not speaking up sooner about politics, but I realized that being political when you are quite as big as Taylor is extremely risky, especially coming from a country fan foundation. Plus she was “cancelled” anyway. What would her voice have done for the mess of the 2016 election? And after that during the Rep era, she gave LOUD pride speeches early on in her tour. She did a lot that pretty clearly demonstrated she was NOT supportive of the alt right. Anyone who really wanted to know could have seen that. So of course she sued the woman saying she was alt right. I’m not saying I like it, but if you are not a nazi and someone called you one, wouldn’t you want them to stop? I wish she had used different methods, but again, what would have worked? I’m not sure there is something that would have convinced this woman to change her tune.

When she did speak up last October, she explained that the absolutely horrible political events of the past few years had made her want to speak up. “In the past I’ve been reluctant to publicly voice my political opinions, but due to several events in my life and in the world in the past two years, I feel very differently about that now.”  Think of how you have changed over the past few years. We have all become more aware of our role and responsibility. We have all grown louder and more aware. Why can’t Taylor also have grown and learned?

In an essay in Elle earlier this year she elaborated on that. ���Only as someone approaching 30 did I feel informed enough to speak about it to my 114 million followers. Invoking racism and provoking fear through thinly veiled messaging is not what I want from our leaders, and I realized that it actually is my responsibility to use my influence against that disgusting rhetoric.” Waiting to find your voice when you have this big a platform seems pretty solid to me.

Taylor isn’t a white feminist. In her October post she said, “I believe that the systemic racism we still see in this country towards people of color is terrifying, sickening and prevalent.” She also made a point of protesting a lack of laws about domestic abuse which unfortunately disproportionately effects women of color and trans women of color. She has pointedly included and celebrated women of color in her tours. On Rep tour the women dancers–many of color–all were introduced and given a moment just for them as part of the song Gorgeous. She has spoken about racism and I expect to see her continue to do so during this next election cycle.

Taylor did not mock Kim K’s robbery in the music video. I see how you could interpret it that way, because there was a robbing scene and a ring prominently displayed but that was in reference to a lot of Swiftie fan theories that she was engaged and the larger feeling of being attacked and dragged aka robbed. There were references to Kim but that was not one. Taylor is a women with stalkers who has her house broken into regularly. She of all people wouldn’t joke about that.

Last but not least, Taylor is pairing her new music with advocacy DESPITE the fact that it has turned away many of her old country fans or older Republican fans. She is also on her way out of the closet, which would make it much easier for others in the music industry to come out. Ahem. Harry and Louis.

So I have to ask that you stop spreading misinformation and stop hating on a woman who is changing the music industry by forcing streaming services to pay artists fairly and now–on her coming out journey. She donates to charity. She advocates for politicians and policies that could improve or even save lives. She is using her platform for good. Stop hating.

Or I guess I should just say… don’t step on her gown. You need to calm down.

TLDR: Larries are often so uninformed and nasty about Taylor. She didn’t speak up about politics for a long time, but when she started it was not near any new content from her. She is queer anyway. She's been very misunderstood by her own community.

bro, if you had said ‘let gay people make jokes that make them sound like four year olds that just found out kindergarten exists’ I could have taken you seriously, but since you still can’t get into your thick performative activist heads that it’s not funny for anyone except maybe the three of you, I’ll explain you a few brief facts:

one: ¾ths of queen are straight so assuming they wouldn’t understand song they wrote and played (beyond somebody to love) already shows that you haven’t thought this joke through;

two: freddie mercury made a goddamned point to not make his sexuality a selling point or the only part of him people would be interested in when listening to his *music*, so your dumb jokes are something he would most likely fucking hate;

three: sorry to break it to you, but with all the sales queen had, going statistically, I can assure you more than half of their fanbase is straight, so congrats on assuming millions of people don’t get the bands they like;

four: music is an extremely subjective thing that tells different things to different people regardless of the original target of the song. I’ve seen articles titled ‘how I, a lesbian person, realized springsteen’s music wasn’t just for male cishet middle-aged guys’ in which people said that to them, a song that’s blatantly about a guy who killed someone and hightails it out of town and hopes that the border patrol doesn’t stop him, felt like it was about wanting to leave somewhere you had to stay in the closet and felt suffocated because you couldn’t come out. now, that’s nowhere near the original meaning of the song, but if for the lesbian author that related on that level… who the hell am I to make posts like ‘lesbians don’t understand springsteen songs’? spoilers: no one;

five: one reasons queen actually made it big was that their songs are actually very much relatable on a bunch of different levels and as I explained some ass who made jokes about how *straights* wouldn’t get I want to break free (written by a straight man btw but I see that now at least y’all are having the decency to pick songs that freddie wrote to throw shade at the straights TM, huh?), just that ONE song can be relatable for, FOR EXAMPLE, people with depression, people stuck in a phase of their life they hate, someone getting over a bad relationship and lgbt people who want to come out. and the lyrics to I want to break free are hardly extra complicated or difficult or obscure. of course then you have borap which no one still understands and freddie refused to explain but like… it’s IT CAN BE WHATEVER THE FUCK YOU WANT regardless of whether their lyrics are obscure or the entire contrary. that was what made queen sell the number of records they did - because they make songs people can relate to, genius;

I’m not the only person I know who has a fairly damned visceral personal relationship with the music she listens to, to the point where I can do the art is not the artist thing np with just about any media except music - I can watch a movie made by a person I despise or whose political views I despise, if I think it’s a good movie, I can’t physically listen to music from people I despise or whose political views I despise. heck, every time my local rock music station airs current lynyrd skynyrd’s music I mute it because their lyrics make me want to hurl and I actually do like the melody half of the time, but I can’t listen to them. and I know people who are way worse than me about this. if you show up basically telling me (or whoever else) that bands we like and helped us through whatever fucking shit life threw at us are now Not A Thing We Can Like Or Understand Anymore you’re being an asshole and for a thing that makes no sense because the beautiful thing about MUSIC in general is that everyone finds the music they like relatable for different fucking reasons even if it’s the same artist and your dumbass attempts at **gatekeeping** bands that existed since before you were born and straight people listened to since before you were born and whose records they bought before you were born is honestly just so fucking ridiculous and really kindergarten-level that if that is what you need to have a laugh I advise you to develop some sense of humor, because you sure as hell ain’t got one.

Author Spotlight: AlexxAplin

First things first, tell us a little about yourself.

I am a gay, 25 year old who loves most things entertainment related, from gaming, to TV and Film. I'm an Entertainment Journalist by trade, and I write (and roleplay) in my spare time as well, mostly because my creative energy can't be contained by just articles alone.

How long have you been writing for?

That is quite a hard question. Technically I've been writing various things since I was 13, but I didn't really get into Roleplaying or Fandom writing until I was about 16, so...almost 10 years?

What inspired you to start writing for The Magicians?

That is a tough question, but I think I can answer it fairly concisely by saying that Prior to 4x13, I had written mostly with a few people that weren't REALLY fans, but were humoring me lol. After the finale, I was very upset and aimless, until I met a group of like-minded people on Discord, who not only encouraged me and supported my ideas, but also decided to write with me too (a few of them anyhow :) )

Who is/are your favourite character(s) to write? What it is about them that makes them your favourite?

I absolutely LOVE writing Q. I identify him pretty well, and I enjoy playing him a little more...sensual than he is allowed to be in the show or in the books. I think my second favorite (not counting a character i've created and haven't ACTUALLY shared yet) would have to be Eliot, because he is just so much fun in general.

Do you have a preference for a particular season/point in time to write about?

It really depends on my mood honestly. I love doing Fix-its, Canon-Divergent AUs, and anything involving reworking things, or adding new ideas to make things even crazier. My favorite season is Season 3 though, so I need to write more in that timeline context.

Are you working on anything right now? Care to give us an idea about it?

Oh boy, do you have all week? Lol. Uh, right now i'm in the process of editing a fic I wrote with a friend of mine, and I have another collaborative fic (that I worked on with the same Author) that i've got to find time to post.

I also have a fic for the MHHE (Magicians Hallmark Holiday Extravaganza) I'm working on with a friend, and a DOZEN and one other projects that are in progress.

How long is your “to do list”?

Too long to name to be honest, and it keeps growing! I swear my brain is housing these ideas in some flubbery substance.

What is your favourite fic that you’ve written for The Magicians? Why?

I only have two fics up right now, but my favorite fic is one I hope to actually put up on Ao3 either today or tomorrow, called Eau De Spicy Nerd. It is a cheeky little play on a few things, and I can't wait for people to see it.

Many writers have a fic that they are passionate about that doesn’t get the reception from the fandom that they hoped for. Do you have a fic you would like more people to read and appreciate?

I'll be honest, most of my favorite fics are from other people. However, I think of my fics, my "Is that Alright?" Fic (which is currently two standalone chapters but will be expanded soon for a full cohesive story) is an emotional feelings train that I hope more people see and resonate with. Fair warning I have been told it will make you cry.

What is your writing process like? Do you have any traditions or superstitions that you like to stick to when you’re writing?

My writing process is very instinctual. I'm terrible at writing by myself in most cases, because I thrive on interaction, bouncing ideas back and forth, and then just letting things go where they go. As stupid as it may sound, sometimes I feel like the characters are more in control of what lands on the page than I am. I just...feel it. Sometimes I lay awake with scenes playing in my head, that i have to write down or I just can't sleep at all.

I usually write a fic (with a friend usually, minus Is That Alright? and its first two chapters) and then afterward I compile it all in a doc (usually pasted from Discord) and work my way through, adding things that come to mind. I pass it off to any other authors collaborating, then once it is polished it goes on to a Beta.

Do you write while the seasons are airing or do you prefer to wait for hiatus? How does the ongoing development of the canon influence and inspire your writing process?

I am quite literally ALWAYS writing. It keeps me sane, especially when work is hectic. Unless work is taking too much of my focus, i'm always working on things. Canon ACTUALLY has helped me finish things before, or has given me ideas to start new things. Sometimes even the smallest plot thread will spark a full idea for me, for example I had the idea for a full AU verse I haven't started yet, just from a conversation about Fillorian marriage and Polyamory.

What has been the most challenging fic for you to write?

Well, I can't REALLY talk too heavily about it because it is my MHHE fic, but the hardest part for me has been sticking to the prompt and not deviating. Sometimes I have ideas for things that stray too far, and i'm having to learn to NOT do that, since it is for a challenge and not my own enjoyment.

Are there any themes or tropes that you like particularly like to explore in your writing?

I love writing smutty things. I think our society should be more sex positive, and so I often try to make my fics the "NC17" version if possible. Some plots aren't conducive for that, which is fine, but anything with smut, or fluff, is A++ in my book. I also love soulmate AU's, Soul bonding, and lots and lots of cheesy things.

Are there any writers that inspire your work? Fanfiction or otherwise?

Oh goodness, I'm not sure I should call out individual folks here, but I am totally inspired by SO MANY Fanfic writers. I also love Neil Gaiman and Lev Grossman as artists and people. To be honest though I am most inspired by fanfic writers these days, because the world is a scary place and fanfic gives me a break. I've learned so many great techniques from fanfic writers too.

What are you currently reading? Fanfiction or otherwise?

I gobble up as much Magicians fic as I can, usually the fluffy or smutty stuff unless i'm in the mood for tears lol. I also keep up with a few different authors, but these days I don't have as much time to read novels as i'd like.

What is the most valuable piece of writing advice you’ve ever been given?

The best advice I've ever been given is actually two pieces of advice. 1. Never force yourself to finish something your heart isn't in. If you do, you won't be satisfied with the end result. 2. Do not set out to tell the story you planned. Set out to tell a GOOD story you and your readers will love. If you love it, other people will too.

Are there any words or phrases you worry about over using in your work?

Oh there are plenty, most are descriptors for facial expressions. I sometimes find it hard to balance too much detail with not enough detail.

What was the first fanfic that you wrote? Do you still have access to it?

I actually don't remember what my first Fanfic was. I don't think I've posted most of my beginning work. I think the first one was a Queer as Folk fanfic that got lost on an old, dead hard-drive lol.

Smut or Fluff. Angst is reserved for if i'm in the right headspace, i've had...bad experiences.

Depends on my mood, some days I don't have the attention span for a slow burn fic, especially if it is incomplete.

The Musical Episode with Under Pressure. So much of that was AMAZINGLY done.
