#Today I decided to treat myself to some noodles 🍜#So I went to an empty Japanese restaurant and was enjoying my meal in solitude #UNTIL this bloke in his 20s with a bright yellow turban walks in and orders a ramen #and proceeds to sit at the table in front of mine…. directly facing me 👁️👁️🍜#And then he laughs about it and asks if he can sit at my table instead #In that moment one part of me was internally groaning that I’m disturbed by some random guy 😾🗯️#But the other part of me told him ‘comme tu veux’ and so he sat down and GUESS WHAT #It was actually nice 👌#Apparently he is half Angolaese & half Portuguese and is the youngest son with 3 sisters. Enlightened me w/some cooking hacks too #We ate together and had such a lovely chat …. But thinking about it later: how bizarre ? lol

what is UP everyone I just finished my very first one-shot fic EVER!!

#is my homework done NO #did I go to the studio today NO #but yesterday I got to bed 45 minutes earlier than I have been (oh glorious Sleep highly recommend) and today I was POSSESSED #with the spirit of Shigeo Kageyama's mother #I kid you not: I came up with this fanfic idea at 12:15 last night right as I drifted off to sleep #and I got up ate breakfast and banged this whole fanfic out in 4 hours. what HAPPENED to me man #me???? FINISHING a fic??? in ONE GO????#MORE LIKELY THAN YOU THINK (APPARENTLY)#my homework will be fine btw #I am using the remaining time in my day (since I'm not going to the studio... sigh... I do feel bad about that actually)#to Clean My Room and get up to speed on my russian fairy tales class #nothing is due tonight anyway and having a clean room will put me in a better headspace to do more schoolwork next week!#MP100 happened to me...... i go back and forth a lot on my interpretations of ats s5, ie. what parts of spike are 'in character' or not, but the one thing that stays constant is my belief that spike and angel fucking would have fixed most of this.

#not that it would have fixed their problems i just mean it would introduce new problems that i would find entertaining as a viewer #anyways i don't like saying a character would NOT say/do that but sometimes i'm not sure if he (spike) SHOULD do that #in terms of showing off the more interesting parts of a character while also carving out a unique arc/dynamic for him on a new tv show #ats rw #i think what's misunderstood about spike is that he's NOT a solo sigma male lone vigilante bad boy action hero #like i think angel is actually the one who has a history of isolating himself #but spike is your friend who always has to be in a relationship (which i think btvs got correct with harmony)#idk. i think oz has that line in btvs where he's like 'i gotta go do that guy thing where i isolate myself now'#and i think that gets transposed onto spike when he goes on the 'guy show' doing 'guy things'#and then kinda blended up with the tension that many of the guys on ats experience between #being a tough guy capable of doing things on his own versus the desire to belong in a crew #but like. that's not a 'guy' thing that applies to all men. that's a thing that certain individuals experience. and spike is not one of the #like i don't think spike cares about how he fits in with society or the collective but i think he DOES care about how individuals #he's close to perceive him #anyways. today on 'reading too much into a tv show that stopped airing 20 years ago'#i gotta make a separate post about this #buffyposting

Someone shared a post about the pear of anguish, saying it was used to torture slaves, and I thought its design was interesting but something felt slightly off, so I looked it up.

The first thing you see when you look this thing up is that its usage is disputed.

Apparently the mechanism doesn't seem to work the way it's said to work? It's said that people would slowly enlarge the opening in order to spread an orifice wider and wider, and that it could even break jaws.

The thing is, this device does not seem to open in this way. It seems to spring open. The screw mechanism is for closing it.

I relayed this information, thinking this was someone who would actually care about fact checking. "It might not actually have worked in this way. Its usage is disputed."

For some fucking dadblamed reason, they took this as me... questioning the existence of racism? And denying the suffering of black people?

I do a little more digging, and it's basically the same thing over and over. One guy insists that it's totally a torture device, because why else would it be in torture chamber museums?

I don't know, buddy, maybe because people like to make up stories and scare others.

That's one running theory for the existence of this thing: people wanted a good story. They wanted to be able to sell that story in order to make money. So they made elaborate devices and charged people to see them, or displayed them in order to scare their guests.

This part of the speculation, by the way, is from medieval times. There are no modern accounts of this item's usage.

We have so many accounts of slavery. We have so many ways to spread information. We're still able to converse with some of the children of the people who are still alive. We can still see the documents they left during that time.

Why would they leave this out? If it were actually in use, why would they relay the whippings, the confinement, the rape, the starvation, the harsh working conditions, the lynchings, the forced assimilation, and just... not mention this part?

Their friend piled on. I told him my statement was based on the way the device functions, and not "white people wouldn't do that." I told them that I didn't expect better from him, because I didn't know him, but I did expect better from them.

Apparently this was me making assumptions.

Gonna be honest, I didn't read the entirety of their responses, because this sort of thing is maddeningly upsetting to me. I thought I was safe to say something because, when I accidentally sent them a video by Alexis Nelson, they called it funny and informative. I know that doesn't seem like much, but... honestly, Alexis isn't going to be up everyone's alley, and sometimes that's due to bigotry. So I thought they would actually care, and not be mad about being checked. I've been in that situation plenty of times, and I normally don't say anything if I don't think I'm going to get through. I only say something if I have hope for that person.

I thought I might actually have a potential friend, and said person responded to "Hey this information might not be accurate" with... honestly, I can barely even parse the way they worded things? Something about slavery happening whether it was disputed or not.

I just wanted to fact check an unsourced facebook post.
