(Tilts head consideringly) I wonder if part of the reason this isn't a plot line explored often is due to the canon narrative's inconsistent portrayal of ghosts as people and Danny's own internalized prejudice against them?

I've always considered the humanoid ghosts of the Danny Phantom universe as much people as the humans of the Danny Phantom universe but I know some of the fandom doesn't. Which I think comes from a combination of the moral weight of the narrative being bias towards humans and fans comparing the ghost's behaves to real-life humans instead of the in-universe humans who should serve as a baseline. I don't consider the ghosts uniquely obsessive and one-dimensional because the cartoon's humans regularly behave the same way - which indicates to me that this is simply how people are portrayed as behaving in this setting.

For the Ghosts: why Danny keeps his secret.

I saw a really interesting take on why Danny keeps his identity a secret in Teamwork for Beginners a Danny Phantom crossover with Young Justice by Synaps; which is that he needs to be a ghost hero so he can prove that ghosts are not inherently malevolent because most non-malevolent ghosts stay in the Ghost Zone so humans don't see them.

A similar but different version I've seen somewhere (unfortunately don't remember which fic) is along the lines of 'Danny doesn't tell his parents because they wouldn't harm their son but that isn't what he wants, he wants that they wouldn't hurt a ghost that was proven to be not only non-malevolent but actively benevolent towards humans'.

The idea that Danny isn't keeping his secret because he's afraid that his parents won't accept him but because he wants his parents to see past their biases and stop trying to murder members of a species that he knows are the intellectual/emotional/moral equals of humanity is one that deeply appeals to me.

I like the 'whole Danny is afraid of his parents' reason, it adds tension and it feels realistic but given that canon also gives strong signs that the Fenton parents would accept and be unwilling to harm their Half-Ghost son this gives another, in some ways deeper tension to his secret identity and his parents' ghost bias. Because Danny has friends and allies among the ghosts and even with his enemies he acknowledges their 'humanity'. But nothing about revealing that Danny Fenton is Danny Phantom guarantees that they will rethink their biases, it would be so easy to brush it aside with a 'oh, your half-human sweetie, that's why you're good unlike those evil ghosts'.

A plotline exploring Danny's secret identity where his fears are less about himself personally and more about ghosts generally would be really interesting.

You are a good person and you want, oh how you want, how you've clung to this hope, you want your parents to be good people too and oh, wouldn't it hurt to have proof that they're not. They'll make an exception, because they love you, of course they really do love you, so they make an exception for you, but they have no mercy for those you know can feel and reason just like you.

In a way this would be more heart-breaking then a reveal where they immediately hate Danny like they hate all other ghosts. Because that would hurt, it would be traumatic and horrific but at least it would be clear-cut and he wouldn't have to choose. Because his parents love him, they won't hurt him but they want to do horrible things and one day he's going to have to choose between stopping them and letting something unforgivable happen to a person and I don't think Danny could live with himself if he let his parent kill or experiment on a human-like ghost.

PSA: Do y’all remember when we created the DCDP tags so you could stop overwhelming the Danny Phantom feed? If not, here’s a passive aggressive reminder to STOP TAGGING DANNY PHANTOM IN YOUR POSTS!!!!!! It’s a fandom tag, not a character tag- people coming to the DANNY PHANTOM TAG want to see DANNY PHANTOM content, NOT DC CONTENT!!!

This is not a ‘wHy nOt jUsT bLocK iT?’ Moment. I promise you, I have. But DCDP is big enough that it is its own fandom, and Danny Phantom fans cannot go seven posts without having your stuff shoved down their throats or getting filtered banners popping up in their face, and it’s annoying.

DCDP is irrelevant to Danny Phantom 98% of the time. By which I mean you’re basically using another fandom’s concepts as your OCs for the DC universe- and it’s not allowing a fandom to enjoy their own series and characters in their actual context, and it’s RUDE.

I will be the bad guy and step up and say that it’s rude. I am not one who likes to make posts that make me an asshole, but if the idea of people blocking me for my opinions is exciting then you know there’s a problem, because at least then my dashboard will be clear.

And YOU KNOW ITS RUDE and don’t care, which makes Danny Phantom fans way more likely to want to block your content anyways so why?! And I don’t mean filter, I mean I and several others are literally a millisecond away from blocking every user who Posts DCDP stuff because it’s so en masse and irrelevant. - And that sucks, because I am a comic enthusiast who loves DC, and I love Danny Phantom, but they are two different series and their fandoms should be allowed to have their own spaces where they can enjoy head canons and canon content in their own established worlds with their own side characters.

I don’t hate crossovers, but this is not cute in this capacity and you know it because the sheer quantity is its own separate entity at this point. I would be hardcore willing to bet that many people don’t even have a first experience with the series on its own without this crossover on the brain because we are choking on it. I’m not even someone who worships canon, but come on, let us BREATHE.

You are suffocating and massacring a small fandom for a cancelled series that has been hanging on by its bloody fingernails and nostalgia for 20 years, and it’s fucking obnoxious. I can’t even favorite the main tag for one of my favorite series because I will get the wrong content and it SUCKS. Genuinely.

(Side note, have you seen AO3 lately? Where the hell are the Danny Phantom Fics? It’s insane. This is like invasion of the body snatchers but instead DP content is being slowly wiped from existence by DC under its own fandom tag. It’s almost demoralizing but at least we can actually filter there.)

Not to whack a hornet's nest here but I seriously think some people should reconsider putting their NSFW posts in the main series tag. Multiple main tags, mind you. Those posts will still end up being visible in the main tag search.

You're still engaging in media that is directed to a younger demographic. If you're an older member of the community please think about who is going to see these posts. Not everyone in the community is going to be interested in seeing that kind of stuff. And considering the fact that there are still plenty of younger community members here, I think you should be more mindful about what you post about these characters out in the open.

RRVerse Fandom, Please Hear Me Out...

Message to the wider Riordanverse fandom:

Please correctly tag your fanfics with the correct fandom tags.

I am getting tired of seeing non-Apollo fics cluttering up the Trials of Apollo tag (such as Percy/Annabeth. like. what. they're barely in ToA. why are they there.). If your fanfic does not deal with Apollo, Meg McCaffrey, or the story of ToA or the consequences of it, please do not tag it as such.

I have seen fics tagged as ToA and not even have the MC, Apollo, tagged as part of the cast. So please. I am begging you. Please stop. You have the Percy Jackson & the Olympians - All Media Types, Percy Jackson and the Olympians, AND The Heroes of Olympus tags.

Solangelo writers, you now have the Sun and the Star tag, as well as the All Media Types one. Unless it happens during or alongside something to do with Apollo & his story, please refrain from tagging it as ToA.

And no. I do not think just being Solangelo should qualify all Solangelo fics to be tagged as ToA. If anything, they should be The Sun and The Star tag or even The Heroes of Olympus tag because that's when it all began! However, if, say, it's during The Hidden Oracle or takes place in the ToA timeframe then sure! ToA tag it!

But if it's just like an AU or something that only focuses on Solangelo? Then please don't. It's not ToA then.

I know, Nico, Will, and Percy are all popular characters, but COME ON. This is Apollo's tag, please give him this! It's so hard to find fics I want to read because it's so cluttered! Apollo's not even in the top three most-tagged characters in his own fandom tag.😒

And look at the gap between the number of fics Apollo's in compared to Percy! A 354 gap! And there's 1,616 gap between Apollo and Nico! And I can say with certainty that not all of those fics Percy - and even Nico and Will - are in are related to ToA.

Meg McCaffrey, the second MC of the series, is not even on the board. And she's a very close second MC.

And trust me. I know a bunch of these fics have nothing to do with ToA. I have scoured the tag many times and have figured that out.

So please, please, please leave The Trials of Apollo tag be unless you are writing for The Trials of Apollo. We are our own fandom and frankly, it's getting annoying having to shuffle through a bunch of fics that have nothing to do with ToA just to find ones we want to read.

Fic authors, it would be such a big help if you could remove the ToA tag from your fic if it doesn't have anything to do with ToA. I know you want your fic to be seen, and use a bunch of tags to do so, but this really inconveniences the ToA fans who just want to read about our favorite loser god and his gremlin adopted sister. ☹️
