It only makes sense that the staff of the school is yandere material, too. The students may rush to help and insist they've got it under control, but the school nurse will be quick to act. It's the chance of a lifetime, having you to himself, and for longer than the usual standard checkup. The curtains are pulled, and the "do not disturb" sign is flipped. Your injuries are not to be taken lightly. You'll need to spend all day under his supervision.

The parents and all relatives are indeed platonic yanderes! I thought it'd be a nice touch since I've never approached the trope before.

The tying up incident was actually an exception to what I originally planned, haha. For most of the competitions, darling yandere will guide (Y/N) and aid them for a flawless win. That's the comedy of it: he's indirectly doing the yandere part while trying to be discreet enough as to not alert the other yanderes. Additionally, (Y/N) helps him with the darling tasks. Though that part is very much expected by everyone from school. The Daring Academy teachers are probably observing the activities, baffled. "Who the hell is that student? What skill...what obliviousness. They should've applied to us."

If you’re comfortable with this concept, (since it’s a school-based series I don’t know if the reader and yanderes are minors are not, if they are then you don’t have to write this.) but obviously the students of the Yandere Academy are going to need to learn how to tie up their darlings once they’ve been captured. This is the ask I used for the tying up idea in Part 3! To answer your worries, all of my stories involve 18+ characters! Just wanted to clear it up for anyone in doubt. The school/academy setup is more of a college/university kind of institution. I do love a good high school setup, but not for self insert romance.

I’d imagine that there’s a drama class at the yandere school to help the students learn how to act and seem innocent. What if they put on a musical or something like Phantom of the Opera (because of course it would be that) and reader got the role of Christine or the equivalent. Imagine all the yanderes fighting for the role of their love interests to get the excuse to kiss them, and other yanderes trying to sabotage them as tactfully as possible to keep the show going, but replace the leads to be alongside reader. You know the whole thing is going to turn into a ninja survival shitshow. They had hoped to never cast (Y/N) in any role, for everyone's safety. And for the most part, (Y/N) thankfully never showed any interest in the drama club.

The supervising teacher held (Y/N)'s application form with trembling hands. It seems their little club had finally run out of luck.

Worst part: the school can't even rely on the teachers. They're just as desperate to see their cute little (Y/N) perform on stage. "Maybe this job is too overwhelming for one person, sensei..." they'll smugly tell the original supervisor. "We could divide some tasks. Someone else could train (Y/N), for example..."

ok here me out, what if there is like a field trip or sports festival kind of thing where the Yandere and Darling academy meet up. Basically where a Yandere and a darling are made to pair up to go through the numerous activities (maybe ones that test their yandere/darling skills) so reader decides to pair up with clumsy Yandere ( who is in Darling academy) much to the displeasure of Yandere classmate. This was a little trippy to read, because it came right after part 3, haha. Which I feel is basically the same plot. Though it would be interesting to see how it'd play out if the stranger was Reader's best friend instead.

Reader excitedly approaches Clumsy!Yandere and asks him to work together, to the dismay of all other students. They're enraged. You can see it plainly: their hands tremble, their jaws are clenched, their eyes have a psychotic glint. Poor Clumsy!Yandere is in constant shivers, unaware of the death stares. Group 1 : si or yes

People do not know how to read you. The decision most people would immediately jump on you take the time to consider and really weigh your options. People hate that about you bc they think you’re too good but it’s lowkey a subtle flex bc it shows you have options. People feel like you get too many chances or things come to easy for you and almost like it’s not fair like you always win. If it’s a situation where you always win people feel like you don’t even try. For example at school it can be a random drawing and your name can get called in an assembly or in the morning announcements and people know you didn’t even try and they put so much energy into hoping they’d get it. 😂

Folks pay a lot attention to you bc you always seem so oblivious yet you’re so rational. You say the most intelligent things and overall you make people feel stupid because a lot of times people assume you’re slow or have dumb blonde energy when half the time you’re not even paying attention. But the other half of the time when you seem like you’re not paying attention you actually are you’re just very strategic. Life is like a game of chess for you and this can make others feel like you’re sneaky or have the intention to one up them by using information when it’s convenient for you. You give non chalant energy but not in a rude way in a calm at peace type of way. People leave you out because you make them realize they’re lowkey thirsty or pick Me’s since you don’t jump at every opportunity like they would, but you teach others about the vastness of life by being patient. Others see you as abundant and before you come into peoples lives even if you’re not close to them they see things as very black and white, this or that, left or right, but you being a multi faceted perspective energy to things. I’m getting mutable energy especially gemini, or heavy Jupiter energy or aspects to your Jupiter or 9th house.

People do love that you kind of don’t care about things BUT YOU DO😂 people really don’t understand you, but the crazy thing is with you it’s what you see is what you get but people swear that you’re hiding something or people may ask you what’s wrong a lot and you’re like nothing????? You don’t have the typical type of resting face it’s more of a stare into the distance because you’re trying to remember if you unplugged your flat iron or turned off the TV before you left the house. If you’re in school you may forget about assignments or homework and end up having to do them on the bus, in the bathroom or in other classes and people hate that they’re tying to fill you in on things but you seem so preoccupied like you don’t care but girl you’re just trying to passss.

EVERYONE wants your energy meanwhile they’re all gossiping about you lowkey bc you’re so interesting and they don’t have anything better to talk about in the sense. But not bc there isn’t anything to talk about it’s just you’re so mysterious. You’re a popular loner like people will try to leave you out just to tell you about it later and you’re like 😃 ohmygosh that’s so wonderful and they’re like BIH you should be jealous like… people really wanna make you the villain. The type of look you have is very girl or guy next door but effortlessly sexy. You actually do alot of self care and you’re intentional with getting dressed but you’re subtle. It’s just a I washed my face and brushed my hair type of thing. You could have a chiseled jawline or symmetrical face. I’m seeing Reggie’s fine self from riverdale. It reminds me of the main character from clueless also how she’s very girl next door almost typical looking but still very standardly pretty. Don’t get me wrong you’re gorgeous and you eat everybody up on your normal day to day. I feel like you actually plan to really make yourself look nice n the mornings before you go to work too but half the time you’re almost running late bc that sleep just be too good.. you focus mostly on your dental health and I see you putting drops n your hair like hair vitamins or oil so your hair must be long and light brown. When Konig’s name was called he truly thought he was dreaming - not in like, a good way, but in, ‘this is truly so unbelievable it can’t possibly be real’ kind of way. Because what are the odds? It’s his worst nightmare that stars the girl he revolves around. It was the most bittersweet thing that has ever happened to him - as if the stars aligned during armageddon.

Shaking your hand was so conflicting. Your tiny hand, so soft in his calloused, overworked hands. It was absolutely electrifying to touch you for the first time, a jolt of warmth that started at his finger tips and bloomed throughout his body. It was immediately followed by a crashing wave of nausea thinking about those very same hands being forced to compete in a fight to the death.

When Reader made Konig ‘deal with her outer thigh,’ homie was SWEATING. I mean he somehow had absolutely no thoughts and a million at the same time. Dial-up motem up noises up there. He didn’t dare move against her in fear she would shift away. (He absolutely popped a chub and felt so guilty about it lmaoo)

I don’t think (?) I ended up including this in the final draft but Konig’s stylist’s name is Ithica and she adores Konig just as much as Ruby does, albeit in a more superficial way.

He was so flustered seeing Reader in the wheat dress and all dolled up for the first time, his heart stopped.

When Reader insisted Konig hold her hand on the chariot he got the exact same feeling he did when he shook her hand, when he was pressed to her thigh. A buzz under his skin and a flush on his cheeks. Sparks on contact that spread throughout his entire body. He was much less worried about the ceremony with Reader’s hand in his. It’s all he could focus on.

When Reader ripped her hand away he was sure he ruined everything. I mean, full spiral. He was sure it was his fault, that he misunderstood the gesture, that he forced himself on you. Konig got just as swarmed with hormones during the first aid training 😭

Konig has been actually benefiting from this world where his size is suddenly something to be adored for. He’s never been so self-assured in that sense - his interview, his score, every Citizen and every member of his team gushing over him. The fact that his size is such a huge, desirable advantage is such a stark contrast from what he’s used to. Aside from the whole ‘being sent to his death thing,’ the only thing making him nervous and negatively self aware is simply standing in Reader’s presence.

Bonding with Ruby has also been incredibly meaningful to him. He can’t help but see her as a mother figure, and she seems to accept and love just about everything about him.

Konig was so excited for Reader to see him in his lil interview suit. 😭

Konig spent so much time in his room, laying on his back, fingers threaded over his waist, staring up at the ceiling just thinking about every moment he shared with Reader that day.

+ fun fact, I almost included Simon Riley in this story. It was a toss up between Reader’s ‘Gale’ and Titan’s character. I kind of enjoyed playing with the original characters in this story though and I decided not to do the whole Gale thing. <3 don’t mind me

GOOD MORNING!! Sorry that this is so late, my professor assigned some super hard assignments smh🙏 I honestly find it very interesting to think about the bsd characters in some vampire au so ty for this ask:3

I don’t normally write for Fukuchi but because this is just a small blurb I figured why not! Bram is also different from the others, as his doesn’t take place in an au and instead takes place in canon. Everyone else’s takes place in an au where their vampirism has a completely different set of rules from Bram’s!! You won’t become mindless if they bite you ty

I feel like Fukuchi has the most control out of any of them? He doesn’t really bite you often because he feels like it’s immoral. He’s already committing enough immoral crimes that completely go against everything him and his image stand for. He’s a war hero after all, why would he want to hurt more people than he already has to, especially when hurting you isn’t even going to save anyone. The only real exception would be if he was quite literally starving, and if you’re in poor health? Forget it. He’s never biting you. He would never bite you recreationally, it would only be if he was hiding from another organization and hadn’t eaten in multiple days.

If he were to bite you though, it wouldn’t be very different. He is a man with a lot of willpower and control. He’s able to control himself better than anyone else on this list, in all honesty. He’ll drink the amount he needs to be sustained, then he’s finished. No more no less.

He would enjoy eating nice meals, like perfectly cooked steak, or other things similar. He wouldn’t be very fond of roadkill, because he has the funds to eat at 5 star restaurants pretty much every day. Why eat things he sees on the side of the road?

Bram is similar in the sense that he has self control. He’s aware of the fact that if he were to bite you, you’d be subjected to becoming nothing more than a mindless, blood sucking creature. That isn’t what he wants from you. He wants to be with you for the rest of his days, even if he knows it isn’t realistic because you’re merely human. He’ll try to simply come to terms with the fact he won’t have you for very long, but it’ll only take him maybe 4 months after he’s gotten his body back for him to go on the hunt for something that can make him human, or safely turn you into a vampire. He’s aware of the page because of Fukuchi, and it’s his number one goal to get a hold of it now. He’d prefer to get it by teaming up with whoever is in possession of it, but if that doesn’t work out, he isn’t afraid to take a more villainous approach. Anything to keep you.

In terms of biting you, he never has because he knows what will happen. But oh god has he fantasized about it. It’s all he thinks about. You’d look so pretty with his fangs in your neck.

He didn’t really eat much before he got his body, only being fed whenever Fukuchi had someone he wanted turned, but that didn’t happen much until the vampirism outbreak. Now that he’s gotten his body back, he doesn’t bite people as one, he would feel unfaithful to you, even if nothing became of it and it was purely for feeding. He also wants to make a conscious effort to be good for Aya’s sake. He eats food you make for him. He doesn’t really like going out in public often, so he allows you to cook for him. You’ve made plenty of meals with blood in them, like animals, but you’ve also introduced him to other types of food, and even if they serve him no nutritional value, he finds them delicious.

Fyodor would love to bite you. If you’re just another pawn on his comically large chess board, then he’ll drink your blood with no real intent of giving you anything in return. Sure, he’ll toss you a rag, but you have to clean yourself off! He’s so horrible. If he cares about you, however, he is strangely tender. He has a sense of self control, but sometimes he gets so desperate for your blood he can’t help himself! He’ll hold you down and nibble into your shoulder. He likes biting your shoulder a strange amount. He can’t explain it, it’s just a nice, convenient spot to bite. This is why he loves it when you wear tops with thin or no straps. Makes for east access! Also let’s not forget that this man is anemic. He’d like to bite you to help get his iron levels up, so at least him constantly asking for you to let him bite you has some practical use? If you say no to him biting you, he’ll respect it. He cares about you, he wouldn’t do anything against your will. You’re the light of his life, after all. You’re perfection, therefore, what you say goes.

Whenever Fyodor does bite you, he’s quite literally on top of you, straddling you. He likes the power it gives him, even if in your opinion, he looks rather pathetic biting you while literally straddling you and trembling from how good you taste. He also likes to bite you from the back sometimes. He’ll walk up behind you, hugging you and swaying from side to side before grazing his fangs over your shoulder, awaiting your permission. He is capable of pacing himself, but if he begins ti notice you're getting dizzy more frequently, or you're getting woozy while he's biting you, he'll stop and clean up your bite, wordlessly cleaning you up and cuddling you.

He also likes to eat fine dining. Nothing can quite compare to the taste of your blood, but there are some fair substitutes. He will drink your blood whenever the opportunity presents itself, but he'll also take the two of you out to a nice restaurant and let you order whatevee you please, while he'll order something simple and bloody.

Nikolai is certainly the most strange when it comes to his behaviors. When he bites you he’ll take the blood left over and wipe it on your cheek or something weird like that😭 he also likes biting you in weird places because he finds it funny?? Like he’ll nibble on your fingertips and shit just for funzies?? Similarly to Fyodor, he would bite you whenever given permission. He doesn’t try to limit himself, if you give him permission, why stop? He’d treat you like fine dining. You’re sweet and yummy and Nikolai can’t get enough of it! If you were to tell him no, say that you don’t want him to bite you, he’d roll his eyes playfully but agree. He obviously wouldn’t want you to leave him because he bit you without asking! Then he wouldn’t be able to drink your yummy blood anymore. He also does care about what you have to say, even if he doesn’t admit it because he feels like it makes him seem less free.

As I said earlier, he likes biting weird obscure places, like your fingertips. He’ll lean down like a gentleman and kiss the top of your hand, slowly trailing down and kissing your knuckles, then your fingertips, before finally nibbling your finger tips. As he kisses you he places him hands on your stomach to press you down onto the nearest couch or bed, so you’ll be sitting up comfortably while he leans ahead of you. He also likes biting places like your collarbones, arms, etc. as much as he likes biting in weird obscure places, the neck is nice too. It’s simple, but affective.

He pretty much only drinks your blood..he’ll go a few days without eating (luckily vampires can last sufficiently longer without food that normal humans can), so once you’ve rebuilt your energy he can drink your blood again. Rinse and repeat that process over and over again, and you’ve got Nikolai’s eating habits. He’s also a messy eater..there will be blood pretty much dripping from wherever he bit you when he’s done so he can wipe it on your face or body.

We’ve already talked about Sigma a fair amount, but I’m down to cover the basics. He loves to bite you, in fact nothing can quite compare. He’ll bite you and once he’s done he has this appreciative look on his face. He loves that you’re willing to let him bite you, but he also feels bad. He tends to space out when he bites you, and he prefers biting you in places that have more fat so it hurts less. He’s already a thigh guy but he especially loves biting you there.. your neck is also a good spot to bite though. It’s a little more painful for you, though, so he tends to not bite you there often.

When he’s finished biting you he’ll just lick up the blood, and get a towel. If you’re too tired he’ll just set you down and take a bath with you, bandaging up wherever he bit you. If you’re not, he’ll treat you real good to make up for it. He may love biting you, but somehow, seeing how you’re attached to him at the hip, clinging onto him for the rest of the day is even more satisfying. He finds it cute.

He loves eating stuff you make for him and stuff from nice restaurants, and despite the fact nothing can quite compare to you, he knows he can’t realistically drink your blood every day. You’d get sick, and not to mention it would cause a lot of swelling and bruising. He’d rather space it out.

This headcanon was literally the reason I wrote the whole fic. For so long, Ive written both Byleth and Seteth as aspec, but I got to thinking about how fanon's idea of nabatean society is still rather human and modern despite their alien-ness, and wanted to do something Different. Seteth actually being rather allo by nabatean standards and ace by human ones is an idea that I love, and I think fits really well with canon. Like. Why are there not half-nabatean characters?? Surely their society wasn't that insulated. Surely humanity wouldn't have killed half humans off so thoroughly.

Here's some bonus conversational bits between Seteth and his daughter and Byleth and her mom that I'm fond of. For Flayn, it's because I relish any opportunity to write her as the adult that she is. For Byleth, it's because it's a conversation I've had with my own mom many times.

This one just means a lot to me. It was a really cathartic premise to write and I think the second chapter is pretty good. I wish more people read it because I think it's one of my best.

Smut fic is weird bc sometimes its so intensely personal that I really want people to connect with it. But you can't force people to read sexual content that contains stuff that they aren't into, but it's also not usually about the kink, it's about the emotions and self discovery. So it's this constant war in my mind between "please read this and See Me" and "I have to be rational and understand that you can't force that on anyone."

Uncharted Waters

I will die on the hill that Flayn would not be purely excited to see her dad get with her teacher. I think, at best, she would be excited at the idea of it at first, but once she actually witnesses them Together a lot of uncomplicated, unprocessed feelings would surface.

I also feel like people tend to forget that she's like. A real adult. She fought in a war. Just because she hasn't had a lot of the modern life experiences that her peers have, doesn't mean she isn't one.

About Me

When did you start writing?

Pretty much as soon as I knew how. I remember writing short stories about a fairy –a very early prototype of what later would become Eva, my first OC–, when I was around 6, 7 years old. Back then I also illustrated them, though the lack of practice means that I probably can’t match my skill back then lol. I also remember writing “fanfic” based on a little children’s book about a lost baby whale. I don’t know which one came first lol. It was in my early teens when I started writing in earnest, in this ancient computer that gave up on me, making me lose a lot of what were probably terrible, but very imaginative stories 😔

Are there genres/themes you enjoy reading different to the ones you write?

When I write it’s almost wholly in the fantasy genre, though as it is vast, that can look very, very differently. Currently I happen to be reading two books whose styles and themes match my own writing, or what I want it to be: “The Bloody Chamber and other stories” by Angela Carter, and Olvidado Rey Gudú by Ana María Matute, but I also read plenty of books from genres I don’t write in: mystery, non-fiction, poetry, historical fiction (though most of it was contemporary in its time), etc.

Is there an author you want to emulate, or one to whom you're often compared?

There are authors whose prose I envy and I like to think can influence my own (though I know that’s an ambitious goal I have yet to reach): Angela Carter, Vladimir Nabokov, Hope Mirrlees… I would die happy, if I was ever compared to the likes of them lol.

Can you tell me a little about your writing space?

My preferred place is in my bedroom, at my desk, in my laptop. Though lately I’ve moved to the living room’s table, where there’s air conditioner :))). I also write A LOT on my phone, mainly when I’m away from home or in the public transport.

What's your most effective way to muster up some muse?

Reading. Not just in my own genre(s), but in general. For example, one of my stories was reshaped after reading a non-fiction book that analysed the history of Lois Lane’s character, introducing me to the concept of sob sister (a female journalist stuck in the advice columns for the lovelorn), leading to the creation of an original character and a new direction and more grounded historical setting for the tale.

I also find poetry and music a good source of inspiration. There are several instrumental playlists on youtube that instantly put me in the mood to a particular story or ~mood, thanks to long-term self-conditioning :P

Did the place(s) you grew up in influence the people and places you write about?

It’s not unlikely, though it’s often not straightforward, and more about little details, specific dynamics (especially family or gender dynamics), and so on. I do use places I know as inspiration from settings, to transmit the feeling I want them to give to the audience. In that sense, growing up in a rural town and then living in a very busy city has been a privilege, for the variety that has offered.

Are there any recurring themes of your writing, and if so, do they surprise you at all?

The fight to regain lost agency, dysfunctional families and communities and the struggles to escape them or live within their constrains, “love is not enough”, the relationships between women in all their forms. None of these surprise me, as they’re things I’ve always been drawn to in other people’s stories.

My Characters

Would you please tell me about your current favourite character?

Lucretia, Lucretia, Lucretia. Imperatrix of my heart. She is the protagonist of the novella I’m currently drafting; one with a villainous vent, but the hero in her own journey, of course. There are other protagonists I might love more, but she’s the one occupying my mind right now.

The story is about her, a visionary vampiress belonging to a matriarchal society of vampires with praying mantis-like habits, who saw the (so far incidental to the plot lol) zombie apocalypse as an opportunity to subjugate humanity. However, she has enemies among her own people; namely, Dana, a vampiress who once committed high treason and paid dearly for it, who’s groomed her daughter Raina to become Lucretia’s political rival.

But Lucretia runs a tight ship in her Underground Elysium. She rose from the lowest depths of her society to the very top, she’s calculating, paranoid and pitiless, and she won’t allow anyone to rob her of her hard-earned power.

Also, a small shout out to Jason Todd, in terms of where my head is at for fanfiction, because detective comics comics truly has me in its clutches. Again smh.

Which of your characters do you think you'd be friends with in real life?

There are a few candidates, but I feel I would’ve fit in well with the group in one of my series, “The Wicked Witches of Trickstown”, back when I was their age. Even when they don’t always fit that well with each other LOL, each of them is someone I could get along with, from the scrappy, easy-going Sadie, to the sceptic and abrasive Gillian, the intuitive and quiet Denise, the ambitious control-freak Judith, the zen and adaptable Dinah, or the kind and non-conformist Leo.

Which of your characters would you dislike most if you met them?

Probably everyone in “Underground Elysium” lol, except Graciela (Lucretia’s human maid; she always looks among those with artistic talent, and she’s an excellent ballerina. Melancholic, and more than meets the eye). And maaaaaaaybe Raina, but she’s still under construction.

Tell me more about the process of coming up with your characters.

It’s too varied to say something so definite. I often feel the need to write a particular kind of character, something I find myself craving and not finding so easily in other works; this was the case for Lucretia, in my quest for cold, unendingly ambitious female protagonists who create their own enemies <3. Or something or someone else sparks my imagination, like with sob sister!Lois, and I pull from that threat until I have something fully-formed.

Do you notice any recurring themes/traits among your characters?

I love writing characters that move things forward in the story, for better or worse. Characters who fail and regress and who have unconventional developments, who yearn for freedom and who have goals they’re willing to fight for, though they won’t always win, and even if they do, a pyrrhic victory is very much in the cards.

How do you picture your characters?

I like having solid face claims, as I feel it helps me visualise them much better. For example, for Lucretia I picture DeWanda Wise, an actress I met in the second season of Underground, one of my favourite shows. For Dana, please picture Jessica Chastain with medium-length hair in an understated yet classy black pantsuit lol.

My Writing

What's your reason for writing?

It’s what I do, and I can’t imagine not doing it. I’d rather keep this and have everything else removed from my life than the reverse, as dramatic as that will sound.

Is there any specific comment or type of comment you find particularly motivating coming from your readers?

I share little of my writing (yet), but what I love most is when, even just with a small excerpt, I can tell I’ve awoken someone’s curiosity; that they’ve given thought to what I’ve written, approaching it with a “yes, and” mentality that shows me they’re engaged with what I have to tell.

How do you want to be thought of by those who read your work?

My grandest ambitions are about people finding my writing captivating, vivid, and thoughtful. Something that they’ll ruminate on and pause at, maybe pondering what they’ve read or enjoying a turn of phrase or description.

What do you feel is your greatest strength as a writer?

I like to think that my characters feel memorable and novel, and that the work I put on creating an ~ambiance with my narration pays off.

What have you been frequently told by others is your greatest strength as a writer?

I’ve been told I’m good at crafting interesting, gut-wrenching dynamics between characters, and at making them visualise a space.

How do you feel about your own writing?

There is definitely a lot of work ahead of me, both in terms of craft and in terms of consistency. I tend to fall prey to perfectionism, though I try to work with that instead of completely setting it aside, because it’s also a motor to my drive for self-improvement. Writing in a language that’s not my mother tongue adds some complications, but it’s also something I’ve found motivating.

If you were the last person on earth and knew your writing would never be read by another human, would you still write?

Yes. I write from a need to see the stories I conjure in my mind in action, but also from a love of the process itself, difficult as it might be. External recognition and praise is very nice, and validating, and I love getting it, but ultimately I know I can live without it, if not as my happiest, as long as I myself am proud and appreciative of what I write.

Fandom has been good practise in that sense, because though it’s easier (way easier, in some cases) to get attention there than with original fiction, my tastes tend to be niche enough that one (1) comment in a fic is already reason for extreme celebration lol. I know what to expect.

When you write, are you influenced by what others might enjoy reading, or do you write purely what you enjoy? if it’s a mix of the two, which holds the most influence?

As of now, not really. At most I think of my friends and mutuals, the very few people likely to read me, and hope they enjoy what I wrote, in the spaces we share, but it does not factor in my decisions (unless I’m writing a personalised prompt). If I end up trying to publish commercially, in whatever manner I choose, it will inevitably enter my calculations. Though as I aim to land a different primary source of income, I hope I can still have room to prioritise my own preferences, as much as possible.

Was thinking about the trend of people compiling oneshots from unrelated fandoms into one published anthology labeled as a crossover and I figured like some others I’d try to explain a few things to people doing this for why this isn’t a good idea.

Putting multiple fandoms into a work gets it labeled a crossover. The expectation is that the two+ settings will be featured in one story. There’s a wide variety of types of crossover but people generally expect stuff like characters from each setting interacting, or characters from one setting being transported into another or an overarching story relevant to both worlds even if they don’t interact directly or stuff like that. It’s fairly self explanatory. If you tag with more than one fandom, that’s what people usually expect. I can think of other things that could justify it but not separate stories that are unrelated. You publish those as separate works. If you’re going to publish separate oneshots as an anthology, they best ALL be crossovers. Anything that isn’t should be published separately. Otherwise it clutters the search results and makes it harder for everyone to find what they’re actually looking for and that is only going to attract negative attention to your work as people grumble about them while scrolling past.

There’s not much benefit to publishing anthologies on AO3 to begin with. Anthologies of unrelated short stories are typically published like that for convenience for the reader and publisher. It’s far easier and cheaper to buy a whole book of short stories than to buy them as like, pamphlets. More profitable too because more people buy them as collections. That’s not relevant here since you already have a website full of search results for all of these stories. Only real reason to publish oneshots together is if there’s something tying them together. Same continuity, same theme, same scenario etc. and DEFINITELY same fandom and preferably ship(s). This sort of anthology makes sense because it’s meant to be viewed as a whole work as well as a collection.

AO3 already has a feature for putting stories into collections. Collections have their own tags for stuff common in all the stories. Title can reflect the reason they’re paired together. The stories still show up individually in the search so everyone finds the one they’re looking for without sifting through all of them but they’re still told they’re part of the collection so they’re prompted to look into it. Tutorial here.

Adding on to that, there should be a reason for these stories to be in a collection aside from the fact that you wrote them since people can just view your author page for that. People do actually click on those pretty often.

There’s no algorithm on AO3. This one you’ve probably heard shouted in bold text in large fonts often. I’m trying to keep this more calm since that can get overwhelming at times. There’s no feed on AO3, just search results, and the search results are based solely on what is entered in the field. This means that there’s no inherent benefits or drawbacks for stories of long or short lengths. This is in contrast to social media sites, a lot of search engines, and video platforms who prioritize promoting the content the company believes is most profitable for whatever reason. On say, YouTube, you see stuff like content creators combining videos that were posted in parts into longer videos because the algorithm used to favor short stuff and now favors long stuff, and that fluctuates a lot. We don’t have that on AO3 bc it doesn’t matter what becomes popular there. AO3 doesn’t make revenue off the site, it was designed not to because companies and authors have sued a lot of fic writers and sites for copyright infringement if they did. Fanfiction.net gets away with having ads so long as it’s nonprofit, but AO3 relies solely on donations because advertisers tend to demand you make sites friendlier to their brand and that’s a whole other can of worms. Point is, AO3 doesn’t care which content becomes popular, it’s just a place for it to exist at all. More or fewer tags, fandoms etc. won’t game the algorithm to promote your stuff. Only thing it changes is who’s looking for it. People who want long stuff search for higher word counts and vice versa. Without an algorithm trying to convince you to favor something, it’s a complete toss up who reads what as far as you’re concerned. Which tags you use and how many also do not boost your work’s likelihood of showing up.

Modern/coffee shop AUs: starting off easy I see…my controversial onion on this is: F. I literally blacklist ‘AU: modern setting’ when I look for fic lmao. Idk I’m just not interested in stories not set within the canon universe, generally - and I especially don’t care for fics where characters don’t have whatever superpowers they usually have in the canon. It takes a really good writer to transfer a canon into a modern AU in a satisfying way, and I’m just too picky to even try.

Hanahaki: hmmmMMMM I’ll go C I think! Maybe a bit harsh - I do enjoy hanahaki a lot, but if it isn’t done well enough I peace out pretty quickly. My dream would be a hanahaki fic that is extremely medical with it and goes into excruciating detail about systemic symptoms and lab testing and alternative treatments and such. lol

Human experimentation/medical horror: oh wow good segue from hanahaki lmao. I’d say B - I like it a lot IF it’s done in an anatomically/medically accurate way. I’m here for that aspect, not so much any angst or even horror. I like the horror part if it’s focused in on the body: like the ways that the human body will compensate for injury through means that might make you feel like shit but will save your life, and how resilient the body is…I’m the bitch who wrote the Law Dissects A Dead Guy To Woo Someone fic so I’m defs into this lmao

Amnesia: slam dunk easy A I LOOOOVE amnesia yea BABEY !!!!! I adore anything to do w themes abt Sense Of Self (meeting AU/past/future versions of yourself, selfcest lmao, deaging, time travel) and this fits the bill for sure. Aren’t we our memories? What happens if some or all of those are gone? Being reset to factory settings can make for incredibly interesting character and relationship studies…no wonder Sabo Onepiece is my muse (ily Mr amnesia)

hiii so first off just wanna say love your takes on robby/cobra kai and second after watching all of cobra kai fairly quickly, i've been mourning robby's friendship with demetri and sam <//3 now i just really want a fic with robby, sam, and demetri hanging out at the mall but i guess i have to be the change i want to see in the world i guess and write it out <//3 the only thing i worry is not getting their voices right

Aww ty!! And god I feel that so much… I miss their friendship in season 2 all the time, like whyyyy did they have to just throw it in the trash!!

The biggest thing about Sam, Demetri, and Robby’s group dynamic is I think that 1. Robby and Sam are protective of Demetri and 2. They can all cut loose and bitch/commiserate together. Like. They are champions of Complaining. I’m honestly pretty sure Miyagi-Do is rlly just all about being able to bitch and complain to your friends. (Which seems kind of appropriate since apparently one of the big ways Ralph and Pat Morita bonded; even before filming; was constantly complaining about their rigorous karate training together). (Honestly, another reason I will always side with Miyagi-Do. They said fuck that “suffer in silence” and “take it like a man” crap, here at Miyagi-Do we BITCH and COMPLAIN and WHINE and it’s beautiful).

As far as individual characterizations and voices, that sort of thing can be tough! There are a few things I tend to keep in mind with these three tho

A big thing with Demetri is that his natural anxiety/neurosis (and esp a fear of physical harm or impending disaster) is often at war with his sarcasm and lack of a verbal filter. He’s also quite pessimistic and often assumes the worst, although this trait isn’t as extreme as it was in earlier seasons (since joining Miyagi-Do has clearly made him more confident).

Sam has a lot in common with other complex, headstrong female characters like Nancy Wheeler, Katara, etc. She’s naturally kind but she’s also got a rebellious and indignant streak. But she also lives her life aware she’s playing a role; a role which she didn’t necessarily want, but she’s still accepted; because she thinks it’s necessary or that bad things will happen if she rejects it. All of that can make her seem fake, sometimes, to certain people. She doesn’t want to seem fake, it’s just a natural consequence of the situation she finds herself in. She’s also sometimes prone to moodiness and huffiness (which I think is adorable, personally).

With friends like Demetri and Robby, I do think she finds it easier to cut loose and exist closer to her authentic self, though. (Them being boys might honestly have something to do with this? The way that Sam relates to other girls is… complicated. I don’t really blame her for it, I think a lot of us have been there, frankly).

Robby; my boy! He’s also naturally kind-hearted and stubborn, like Sam. And he’s also carrying, like, a lot of anger, but that’s not surprising considering his childhood. He’s also very charming! Some of that seems natural, but a lot of it is clearly a skill developed out of necessity. Robby’s nature is very… mutable? Changeable, I think? He tends to mirror his environment. (The way his sense of identity is often in flux is another point towards him having CPTSD, tbh). He’s a very good friend, though! I think that part is all him. He just wants to help, wants to do good. Oh, and entertain! He definitely spends time making sure he’s making other people laugh.

Plus he’s pretty sassy sometimes. Can’t hold back certain bitchy little comments, but it’s always very funny.

(I also think all three of them have a lot in common with Daniel in particular, although it’s different traits, respectively…)

The ATLA & EoA Characters:

Alright, this question is harder actually XD

The first thing I’ll say is that Gabe and Sokka are 100% besties, I want my boys to be friends. To be more serious, though, they do have some things in common, so I think they’d actually get along, not because I’m biased :’) They’re both warriors who want to protect their loved ones and prove their worth, so they’ll find the common ground for sure.

I think Mateo and Aang would have an interesting dynamic, too, given the fact all wizards have been banished from Avalor during Shuriki’s reign and Mateo was basically the only wizard in his kingdom, plus he’s self-taught, whereas Aang is the last airbender (just imagine Mateo going to the astral to communicate with the Maruvian wizards like Aang can communicate with the avatars (well, Mateo can summon spirit guides from the spirit world, but okay, this is not really the same thing))

Zuko and Esteban are quite similar, but I don’t think they’d get along very well, rather be annoyed with each other, because they’ve both got a temper XD But Francisco and Iroh would definitely become friends, I tell you.

I still haven’t said anything about Elena, but I think she’d have a nice relationship with Katara, given how caring and people-oriented they both are. Plus, Katara is a self-taught waterbender, whereas Elena gets a hang of using her scepter (mostly in season 1, but yeah) and they both have forgiveness issues akjsndkfk

The ATLA Characters & My OCs :3 (thank you for putting them in your ask <3)

I can write the whole novel about Valerio now XD At first, Valerio would get along with Iroh. Both are wise, understanding, supportive and Valerio loves tea. But once he meets his nephew, he realizes that he sees himself in Zuko in many ways and wants to guide him in the right direction, which also helps him to look at his own path from a different perspective.

Valerio is interesting (pfffffft) because on the surface he does seem like a grounded person (in the sense he seems to have everything under control and not really have any personal life problems), but he’s damaged deep inside and has many unresolved issues that gnaw at him and don’t let him live the life the way he’d like to, so I think he would make a good company for Iroh and Zuko.

As for my other characters, Frida would get along with Katara for sure and Ángel with Sokka and surprisingly Ty Lee (after “redemption”) because they’re actually quite similar.

Matías also needs a friend but I can’t think of anyone aljsndkfk

ageism and night thoughts

I realise now why I used to feel a sense of uneasiness when I first watched Bojack Horseman a few years back. I’ve finally watched more of the show than I did back then, but I always had this feeling when I watched a show with an older character who didnt seem to have their life together.

It was because I thought: “Why are they like this? They’re old, gritty, almost about to die yet they still act this way. Why are they so shitty even after their entire lives and what they’ve been through?”.

Bojack is a bad person, for sure, but why did he never ‘wake up’ from what he was doing and stared himself in the face? I felt that older people should be better, but whenever I saw these characters in their 50s, 60s, it seemed like they had so little time left to fix all their mistakes and make up to everyone in their lives. They have so little time to get back on the right track, back onto a standard career path that promises success and money. And I think I felt uneasy, because I never grew up with people like that around me. I’ve always been fed a dose of the prescribed Chinese success and pathways that seeing such flawed, seemingly unfixable characters made me feel a sense of unfamiliarity, uneasiness, and also the fear at the back of my mind where I ask myself: “Will I ever become like this? Where I hit an age where it feels like it doesn’t matter what I do anymore because I’ve had so many year behind me with mistakes piling on top of one another, so the remaining don’t actually matter in the grand scheme of things?”.

Another character I’ve thought about regarding this ‘getting old’ issue is Kiryu from Yakuza. I was so caught up in his age and the idea that he only got out of prison at 39 because I thought that he woukd have nothing else to live for in front of him. That he was now one old man with limited physical strength and everything he ever worked for is now gone, and he’s also broke. I didn’t like seeing such a likable character that way, and I think it also stems from an innate belief that getting older until a certain point equates to the inability to do anything substantial with your life. And I think that’s what also paralyses me to stay in a rational, practical course because if not now, then when? When will I be able to be in a position where the future seems so bright and the modules I study are so useful? I should just stick with status quo because its so promising, yet I don’t think about the boundless opportunities out there and other paths I can take if my passion can’t fuel me.

Yet I have also thought about alternative paths but I’ve never thought about them seriously. Because if I really want to switch my major now, I need to think about the backups I could possibly have in order to move forward if my degree can’t cut it. I never thought seriously about alternative paths because these thoughts only served as a comfort, like “if I end up doing real badly for this module and course then there’s other things I could do like being an influencer and I could also make big bucks in other ways”. It sort of serves as an escapism and also an attempt in taking the enormous weight of the impending doom of not doing well in my studies when all I pride myself in is being good at studying.

Then that begs the question, am I tying all my self-worth in my ability to do something that literally anyone with an ounce of diligence and or innate genius could do so easily? Why are my grades equal to me? But at the same time I just feel that I need to get good grades, because I need to stand out because I have nothing else going for me because who really cares about some 20 year old undergraduate who has shitty langauge skills and the hobby of crocheting and playing games? What worth do I have to the corporate out there other than me summarised in a piece of paper? What good am I out there?

Where do I really stand? 

This grade thing won’t change even if I switch majors. I know that I am just trying to escape the plight I put myself in, but even the major that I feel a semblance of passion in is considered useless because its not vocational.

Its important to think about the career paths out there but what if I dont know what career I want topursure and I just know Im interested in the topic and the research that goes into it?

Is it really wrong of me to want to spend my early 20s on something I like, rather than placing emphasis on the career pathways I will embark in in my late 20s? Career changes happen all the time and interests change, but my 4 years of studying and health are now. I’m just really stressed. 

To be honest, I just wish that I could be somebody that people can rely on and talk to about their feelings. Maybe I want to be a counsellor, but I haven’t even solved my own issues. But maybe this may lead me to a job I’m interested in. I hope so. Perhaps all I want is some sort of legacy and to be remembered. I want to put good out into the world rather than being some corporate slave doing international trading.

✨- How did you come up with the OC’s name?

for all of my ocs, the name is usually one of the last things i pick out when i’m creating them :P i like to get a good sense of their appearance, sense of style, gender/pronouns, personality, and the setting (ie, modern, fantasy, historical etc) they’re gonna be in first! and then i just browse baby name sites or whatever until i find something that i think goes well with all of that :D and i try to find names that i like the meaning of too even if it’s not like. directly relevant to them hehe

🍀 - What originally inspired the OC?

dove, cassia, micah, emrys and winnie are all a group and got created at the same time so they have pretty much the same inspo! i don’t remember exactly what my thought process was but my favorite kind of stories are about found family and close friendships/relationships that don’t really fall into the traditional family roles of parents, kids, siblings etc but still love each other a lot! so they’re my own self-indulgent version of that trope placed into a modern fantasy world setting with complicated magic vaguely inspired by a few various minecraft smps :]

🧠 - What do you like most about the OC?

micah— they have 100% dormant/hidden catshifter traits!! they do confusing cat behaviors all the time and nobody knows why bc they look entirely human and that’s very funny to me skdhdj. misunderstood kitty <3

winnie— she’s a regressor!! it’s not a big focus of her character in the main story i have in my head but small winnie is so so important to me..they’re just tiny sometimes.. :’]

cassia— i accidentally ended up projecting a bunch of my disability woes onto him (sorry cassia </3) so that part of his character is rly important to me!! also she/him pronouns for the win :D

dove— i love love love the way she dresses! a million accessories at all times and funky colorful patterns and a new complicated hairstyle and makeup combo every day and a hint of gothic witchy vibes to top it all off. if i was capable of choosing just one aesthetic to dress myself for the rest of my life i’d pick hers hehehe

emrys— lion!!! shifter!! he’s the only one of this group who’s able to actually fully turn into an animal and i love the way i made his shifting work in this world he’s placed in. always complicated to explain so i won’t try rn but trust me in my head it makes me very happy <3

✏️ - How often do you draw/write about the OC?

agh. i have perpetual art/writing block and my disabilities make it so so hard to create anything so i basically just have crumbs. i have sketches of almost all of them and little pieces of disconnected story tidbits here and there but mostly they all live in extensive pinterest boards and a million headcanons that if i’m lucky i remember to write down on my phone skdhj. but they are rotating in my brain almost constantly trust me hehehe

Honestly this is probably my most controversial opinion but I don’t really care if people head canon Korra and Asami as lesbians.

Like, I think they’re bisexual. They are bisexual in canon if you take into consideration the author’s confirmation as canon. I also hate anti-fans (anti SJW type people) saying ‘they turned them into lesbians!!!’ When discussing the finale, because dating a woman doesn’t turn you into a lesbian and I consider that to be erasure. Realising you like your friend is kind of how a lot of relationships work in real life. I believe canon paints Korra and Asami having a real romantic interest in Mako. It just didn’t work out. And then they date eachother.

However if a lesbian fan reads either Korra or Asami’s relationship with Mako as comp het and they recognise the characters as being gay in a way that’s similar to their own experiences and identity it doesn’t really bother me. I can see that some lesbians have dated men in the past so that could happen with Korra and Asami.

Like this doesn’t invalidate canon as it’s a fan interpretation. Canon is still canon and the author’s word and not changed by some random user’s tweet or fanfic.

I suppose it comes down if you see a fan saying ‘Asami is a lesbian’ as dismissing any discussion of her being bisexual, but often (on Twitter where I saw most of this discourse that’s recent) it isn’t? It’s just someone saying they see them as gay. It doesn’t change anything to do with canon. Obviously some people saying ‘Asami is a lesbian and you’re wrong for thinking she’s bisexual’ isn’t a position I support but I think we often assume people are supporting the worst when discussing sexualities of fictional characters on the internet.

I don’t know, I think a lot of this is just personal preference. Like for me fanworks and headcanons have wildly differing interpretations and I feel like there’s always room for different versions of the same story. That’s the joy in fan works and headcanons. If you don’t like one interpretation, chance is there’s something out there that actually hits all your own personal ideas. And sometimes it’s fun to read stuff that is far away from your own interpretation!

This relates to head canoning Mako as gay, and not bisexual (I mean him being interpreted as straight isn’t normally negatively seen). Some people see this bi-erasure because he dated women, but again, comp het is a story that does happens as gay men do date women before realising they’re gay (I mean, inherently, the most canon sexuality is still that he’s straight). I headcanon him as bisexual but it’s no more canon than him being gay. Or similarly, headcanoning Kya as bisexual when people usually consider her a lesbian, because she mentioned a girlfriend (so canon sapphic) but we don’t actually know how she actually identifies. She could have previously dated a man or consider herself as Bi. We don’t know.

Maybe there’s a broader discussion on if some people can’t relate to bisexual characters in queer relationships so they feel the need to head canon them as gay. I think that’s a potentially interesting discussion and I do acknowledge that part of the discourse and I do think bisexual erasure is a thing that happens with these posts about gay Korra and Asami, and I get that it feels personal for so many people so there is genuine hurt.

But is it really that problematic for someone to headcanon a fictional character to their sexuality given in a blog post? I mean I freely ignore some of the canon commentary (smh Wu and Mako did not know eachother for three years I don’t care what the commentary implies. But the commentary is still more canon than my HC). Maybe, again, some rando’s opinion doesn’t actually affect my read of them being bisexual which I feel is very supported by canon and will not change this fact. Maybe I just don’t think good activism involves dog piling on some random twitter account for thinking Asami is gay.

Fallout 4 and canon things I simply choose to ignore

MacCready didn’t marry the same Lucy from Little Lamplight

How many Lucy’s are out there, man? You’re telling me this sweet girl, little Lucy from Little Lamplight wasn’t the one to touch sour little RJ’s heart?? FALSE. Hate it. I choose to believe once they got into that pre-teen stage where they started having crushes, she would flirt and he would be super awkward and eventually they got together before leaving the cave at 16. IT JUST MAKES SENSE.

Danse doesn’t join the Minutemen after Blind Betrayal

Assuming you’re the General and quadruple-timing all of the factions for the best, most peaceful outcome possible; it would just make sense for Danse to join your cause after you accept him for who he is. That man is a workaholic and wants to fight for what’s right. He trusts Sole and knows the Minutemen do good.

MacCready doesn’t bring Duncan to the Commonwealth

Another MacCready thing because there are a lot of complaints I have for this deserving-family man’s storyline. Even if Sole doesn’t romance this guy, after getting the cure for Duncan I think we kind of deserve to see the mini MacCready running around Sanctuary or whatever.

The whole thing with not being able to romance Deacon, Nick, or X6-88

Just why. I am big wh*re for fallout characters and should be able to romance every single one with exception of the big milk guy.

Butterflies are extinct. I choose to believe they are alive, thriving, and roughly the size of a bird but still gorgeous as ever

Okay so this was just a random thought I had when coming up with a pacifist oc, but it would be kind of amazing to have butterflies of different colors just invading everywhere in the Commonwealth or wherever. And glowing butterflies?? Ugh, masterpiece. Don’t even get me started.

Settlers don’t have names

Kind of self-explanatory. They don’t even need last names. I’m just tired of seeing ‘Settler’ on everyone when it could very easily say ‘Craig’ or ‘Nancy’ at random.

You can’t name settlement animals/pack brahmin

Again, self-explanatory. I want to name a settlement cat ‘Stinky’ but the developers won’t allow that.

Raider rehabilitation doesn’t exist

Again, tying into random thoughts with my pacifist oc. I just thought like if you’re able to pacify raiders, then why not have the option where you can send them to settlements/jail (rehabilitate) them. I can see where this would be abused by evil SoSu’s, but it’s just a random thing I thought up.

All other music is destroyed

There is definitely some booty-shakin’ 90s + 2000s music SOMEWHERE, the fallout DJs just refuse to play it for the 50s aesthetic.

Little ghoul Billy (kid in the fridge) was in there since the Great War

Ain’t no way. He’d be feral without food or water. Also if he were cramped in that space for 210 years, he would NOT be able to just get out and walk around. I know his joints be hurtin’. And, I thought it was canon that younger ghouls will age at least into an adult state and then their aging process is slowed?? I don’t know, man. All I know is just that he was not in there since the war.

Anyway, I know this is all random. I just found it in my notes app and decided to share my early thoughts.

Is Ty Lee a better written character than Mai? Was her joining the Kyoshi warriors a good decision? Imo they both lack character development especially given that they never faced consequences of their imperialistic actions and their redemption arcs happened off screen. They, do, however, have potential to be great characters. That was sadly unexplored... and their traumas/dealing with their emotions, learning who they really are/want to be/reconnecting with their families and how they feel about Azula after the betrayal... all of that was also skipped. Just because they're side characters doesn't mean.... ugh nevermind. Anyway, I wanted to know your opinion on this take. I hope it doesn't anger you dor obvious reasons.

“Is Ty Lee a better written character than Mai?”

No. They’re both great characters with a lot of potential that went to waste because Bryke insisted on having only three seasons, which meant A LOT of things were rushed, including their development. Ty Lee becoming a Kyoshi Warrior could have been good and an excellent case of an ironic ending (like Zuko and Aang being friends in the finale when they started the show as enemies) IF the writers had given it time. Both her and Mai should have gotten scenes that showed us they were moving on from their imperialist views.

Mai’s ending, with her being with the guy she had a crush on since she was 8 and had been dating for a while made sense (even though as I’ve said before I personally don’t think it would last, at least not without some extra growth and maturity from both of them). So while neither character is “better written” than the other, Mai’s ending, although flawed, made more sense than Ty Lee’s. 

"Ty Lee never wanted to hurt anyone, Mai joined Azula willingly"

Ty Lee joined Azula on her mission out of fear, yes, but that doesn't mean she got no enjoyment out of it ever - we clearly see that she did. Is it still unfair since it wasn't her choice? Absolutely. But that does NOT mean all of Ty Lee's actions were a consequence of fear, and it sure as fuck does not mean that Mai wasn't afraid of Azula at all - if just means that said fear wasn't the driving force for her to join her. 

“The I love X more than I fear you should have been Ty Lee’s, not Mai’s”

Mai never letting fear rulling her and then pointing out to Azula that fear wouldn’t make her stay now that she had a reason to leave made sense. Ty Lee defending Mai despite her fear is her saying “I love Mai more than I fear you” without having to actually say it. Actions speak louder than words.

“Ty Luko would have been better than Maiko”

I like Ty Luko but I disagree. This one really comes down to personal preference.

“Mai’s arc revolves around Zuko”

Mai did not spend an entire season just running around the earth kingdom and being a menace to society to them be reduced to a guy just because she saved him and ended up with him. Mai choosing Zuko over Azula isn’t just about their romance (or the simple fact that Zuko needed someone to help him out at that point of the plot) - it was her choosing her own happiness and a troubled, but still more equal relationship over being subservient for the rest of her life. She left with Azula because she wanted excitment, and she left Azula because she was sick of having someone else (be it her parents or her friend/princess) deciding her life for her.

“Mai’s arc and Ty Lee’s lack of arc were a direct result of Bryke trying to kill Zutara”

*sighs eternally* One time. Just one time. One single, solitary time. Can a conversation about flaws in the characters and arcs not be derailed to “Zutara didn’t happen and I’m bitter” ONE FUCKING TIME? Ship whatever you want, but have at least some self-awareness.

How does mishandling Ty Lee’s character hurt Zutara? She isn’t involved in the ship or in any canon “rival” ship. Mai’s development isn’t tied to her lack of development. Bryke dropped the ball on Ty Lee’s arc because they wanted three seasons instead of four (or more) and wouldn’t let go of that idea even when it became clear that there was just not enough room in book 3 to fit properly conclude all the storylines.

Was Toph not getting her life changing field trip with Zuko, or a proper resolution the writers being afraid of her being a “threat” to Maiko? Was the writers not giving Azula a redemption arc and making her reconciliate with Zuko them being afraid that people (like me) would ship them? NO! It was them being lazy and caring about some storylines more than others and letting that affect the quality of their writting. Pure and simple. 

Bryke gave a more coherent/less rushed ending to Mai instead of to Ty Lee because they didn’t care that much about Ty Lee’s issues. Mai’s ending was still rushed because they didn’t care that much about her issues either. It had NOTHING to do with Zutara. 

Ty Lee could have had a perfect arc and Zutara would have still not happened. Mai could have had a perfect arc, with or without Zuko involved, and Zutara still would not have happened. Kataang could have been 100% platonic the entire show and Zutara still wouldn’t have happened. Every single fan could have shipped Zutara and it still would not happen. Why? Because Bryke were the ones in charge and they didn’t like it. They didn’t need to change anything about any storyline (or botch say storylines) to make Zutara not happen. They were so “threatened” by Zutara and wanted to kill it that they allowed a ton of Zutara bait to happen, including Zuko taking lightning to the heart for Katara.

Bryke didn’t like Zutara (and there WERE times when they treated the shippers terribly). Bryke dropped the ball on Mai and Ty Lee’s development. Both statements are true, but they are NOT connected. Not everything is about Zutara and it’s time for the more obsessive shippers to learn that they can love the pairing and be upset that it wasn’t canon WITHOUT having this almost pathological need of claiming that every bad thing about the show is connected to it not happening. It only makes people, like me, go from indifferent to the ship to having to block the goddamn tag because just seeing it gives me a headache since it reminds me of some of the WORST takes I’ve ever seen.
