I don't think I ever fully realized that in many ways, The Odyssey is a tragedy until I listened to Epic. Because he survives and he manages to get home and see his family again, so it doesn't really strike as a tragedy.

But then there is Epic going, "but look at all he lost to get there, all the people that died for him to get home. Don't forget that the man you met at the start of the musical is not the one that makes it home. He dies in "Monster.""

The tragedy of Kokichi to me is that he really Didn't have to do all that. There's endless discourse about ch4 and if what Kokichi did was justified. And a lot of people argue that Kokichi had to sacrifice Miu and Gonta, mainly for his life, and partly for his plan. But the reality is he didn't have to do that- but not in an immediate sense. His cold attitude and lack of belief in others pushed him into a corner where his long-game Plan to End The Killing Game was his best course of action. So in the end, no, he didn't need to do all that, but it's not as easy as stopping at ch4. The cause of his actions runs much deeper than the surface level motivations of that case.

I keep thinking about how in DC x DP tropes, people believe that Danny is the one tricking people to stay in the Ghost Zone by eating their food. Or some other Hades and Persephone thing going on.

BUT

I need people thinking he's not a consort or victim of a ghost or entity. More of their love child if you know what I mean?

I can imagine it starts with Danny being summoned (cuz that's classic Danny stuff) reeking of death and while most people in these prompts offer him food which is valid, hungry boi and all.

He refuses saying if he eats mortal food it'll delay when he can return back.

This makes people think there's some reverse Persephone logic going on. Is it all human food? For how long exactly? And is it the same for everything he eats?

Danny doesn't explain his reasoning. Maybe he has two different stomachs? Maybe he's experimenting or Frostbite told him not to. Who knows. His summoner for sure doesn't.

Sorry to bother you. I wanted to ask if you were willing to give advice on how to avoid the 'Friends Who Never Hang' tropes? Because I'm hesitant to make more main characters because I'm not sure if I can make their bond close between all of them and you seem to have a grip on the Heartless gang's relationship. Thanks.

I had to google what that trope meant haha - but that's a rlly interesting question!

At least for me and my storytelling preferences, I think my stance would be that there's actually no need to worry about making a close bond between *all* of your main characters at all!

It's a bit hard to articulate, and I'm definitely thinking from more of a manga mindset so bear with me lol -- but trying to make sure that everyone on your main cast all get along with everyone else on the main cast, and feeling the need to give a 'proper' spotlight to every possible combination of characters to convince your audience that 'they really are all friends with a close bond, see how they all hang out!?' Can run the risk of looking like this:

and leave your story feeling bland/stagnant as you kinda slog through unnecessary scenes between characters just for the sake of proving that they do all interact an adequate amount.

Whereas - (again, at least in my experience) - building a group primarily around their ties to your Main-main character(s) like this:

is a method that leaves much more room for you as a writer to both focus on the character that's specifically meant to be at the forefront, while also making it easier to explore which other combos could then actually be fun to give more screen time to in order to *build up* those close bonds, rather than worrying about the end result and just trying to make everybody get along right from the get-go!

(Also! Don't feel like if you start out with a bunch of varied colorful connections that they all have to be turned into bright green friendly bonds by story's end! Making some characters a bit closer over time but still not besties is a-ok! They can unite for a common goal but still get on each others nerves forever! There are no rules! Be cringe, be free!)

Yes im thinking about Sonic being the source of most of Tails issues. Not on purpose but just because of who he inescapably is. Yes im thinking about Sonic being so dedicated to making sure Tails never has to worry over him or feel afraid that he won't bounce back being so focused on smiling through everything and anything that he becomes unreachable. Yes im thinking about Tails needing so desperately to be self sufficent because he knows Sonic wants to adventure to run headfirst into danger and Tails needs to be capable and smart so he can be there with him he needs to be brave and mature so Sonic doesn't have to worry about him and can focus on looking after himself and most importantly he needs to not be a burden because Sonic loves running more than anything he loves being free and Tails needs to make sure he never ever slows him down because what if he cant keep up and Sonic runs away and never comes back?

So Tails expresses concern for Sonic after a rough battle and Sonic brushes it off with a grin despite the pain in his side. Sonic reaches to pass Tails something he can't reach and Tails swats his hand aside saying he can get it himself even if it's something so small and simple to have let Sonic pass him the screwdriver. Even if admitting he'd gotten nicked by that last laser would have been easier than wrapping up his side in a cave where no one could see. They've gotta let each other know they're untouchable and they don't need each other. So they won't worry. So they'll know they're okay. So they'll be safe. So he'll stay.

working at a grocery store has only made me even angrier about inflation and how food, water, and shelter isnt free

like just looking at groceries (not water or shelter) i see just a few bags (maybe around 5 or so) of food costing over $125 USD regularly. I've seen orders upwards of $600. and sure those have been bigger orders but no food should cost that much.

my coworkers and i shouldn't be complaining about the price of food when we get employee discounts.

a single bag of food for myself (usually containing some small pizzas, crackers, milk, and cereal) regularly costs between $50-60. minimum wage in my state is 15/HR. thats about four hours of work for one bag of food

a coworker who works on the front end of our store prides herself on being able to catch theives. everyone says how good she is at it. and sometimes it makes sense, sometimes people are just stealing to steal. but how do you ever know?

when the card reader we take outside is broken we are supposed to have the customers come inside to pay for their groceries if they're paying with EBT. there's a woman who's a regular who has a few small children and when she comes to pick up groceries they're usually asleep in the car.

am i supposed to make her choose between leaving her children alone in the car or waking them up and taking them inside?

I like to imagine Soichiro used to take light to work someday and that everyone would smile when they saw him. Quiet and studious and polite and always so kind and sweet. Maybe some of them loved him and celebrated when soichiro told them that once again, light was top of the country. Maybe years after the kira case the task force think of him when he was a child, wandering behind his father and sitting in the break room when soichiro was in meetings? Aizawa sometimes finds spare change in his pocket, and remembers a time where it would be given to Light to spend on a vending machine. Maybe they lie awake at night feeling sick, trying to search their memory for when that child died. And matsuda knows light was kira's very first victim, dead at 17, but he will never not remember soichiro's son in that warehouse, through maybe just one glimpse of a nervous expression light once wore.

the whole peculiar situation with "why does everybody in this house think i’m still in love with spike?" consists of the way buffy phrased it and the fact that she even said it unprompted. not because nothing led to it in the conversation, but because it was so rushed and so defensive and so i-didn`t-even-register-what-i-just-said. it burnt and bothered her all that time. and it leaves buffy shocked that it was the first time she said it like that, confirming that the love was and is there. it`s not her usual "i can`t love you", "you can`t love me", it`s her mouth finally betraying her iron control and spilling what`s been on her mind - she said it to try and blame the others in their false assumptions and in turn it revealed to her the truth that she so hard tried to bury down and ignore at all cost, the truth that she probably avoided to think is now pronounced out loud, making it even more real to her.

and to her it`s not the time and she probably doesn`t want it, cause we all know - buffy summers is the most repressed character ever. each year stakes become higher and higher and she has to jump over her head to stop the end of the world, and she is just in her early 20s, and she died already 2 times, the second one hitting harder, and she tries to regain control over her life and not let the fire inside her disappear again, and she has to look after her sister, and she has to constantly prove herself, and take care of responsibilities that shouldn`t be hers, and everybody picks on her, and it`s the end of the world again. for the past 2 years she hasn`t had much time to simply breath, to be.

and then there is spike and she just doesn`t have enough energy to unpack it all, but he is there and he loves her the way she has always wanted to be loved and cherished, he loves her good side and her ugly side that only he truly saw, he loves the way nobody was able to do or wanted to do. and when such love is there, she is not ready for it, cause trust issues, cause he is a vampire (again), a vampire without a soul (which helps her to run away from any feelings that start to bloom for him), but then he gains his soul for her and now she feels relief that maybe it`s possible for them, she can openly care for him now, but now it`s not the time to love.

however, it is time for love, it`s always about love. btvs is a love story and i stand by that. buffy heals herself and her relationship with herself, her trust with herself, her confidence, her love for herself. but trust is the most important one here. she can finally feel the begining of that relief and that is why she slips and says that phrase.

First things first

And if im wrong about anything i am sorry :( also this might be nothing but i need to say this somewhere

Chip and his lack of control over his own fate is so interesting to me. The guy who tells gillion tidestrider “I didn’t believe in destiny before i met you” is somehow, out of the three of them, the one who is seemingly following a predetermined path set out for him. 

Gillion, whilst being the chosen one, struggles with this identity and was exiled, which may be in his destiny but was clearly not intended by the elders. 

Jay has her prophecy (type thing I know its not exactly a prophecy) but it has no clear path for her specifically to follow.

Chip, however, was destined to end up back at the hole in the sea, but barely remembers actually being there in the first place, and yet when he does return to the black sea, there is a message from Rose from a decade prior knowing not only that he would return, but that he would be there looking for them after their disappearance. (i dont have the brainpower to go into how insane that message makes me so just know i think about it at least once a day). Even chips search for arlin, which was originally his own, was used against him and taken advantage of by Niklaus (with whatever the fuck he is planning im not smart enough to figure that out im just insane) making what was originally a goal into an “incessant urge to not only find the other members but also do what you [chip] were told and return to the hole in the sea”.

Not only that, there is also the compass, which is further twisting and intensifying chips desire to find arlin and return to the hole in the sea (niklaus also told chip to stop using the compass but yknow) so not even his desires, his main motivations that have led him to where he is now, arent truly his own. ( interestingly despite rose knowing he would go back to the black sea, still urges him to leave behind the legacy of the black rose pirates and do something greater) 

Even his death he had no part in, no crucial mistake, nothing he could have done differently to avoid it, he was simply chosen and made an example of for the sake of making a point of how fucked they were against captain widow, yet again a pawn in something he had no control over.

And then, when they do finally reach the hole in the sea, chip is led by the compass (THE FUCKIGN COMPASSSSS) and (im getting into insane territory here) has strange parallels to captain rose. He is separated from his crew (namely the only other black rose pirate, drey), made a deal with niklaus regarding the hole in the sea has the hole in his chest (idc if its not there in canon its there to me) however what is he met with? “Welcome home”. Now what does that mean? I dont fuckign know but it makes me very insane and this is long enough already so i hope you enjoyed my incoherent chip just roll with it ramble :D
