fav light novel only characters? like not animated or drawn in the manga yet

So this has been in my inbox for a couple months now and I think I can finally confidently answer it bc I have a couple of characters who I wanna talk about.

Spoiler warning: Due to this ask being related to characters only seen in the light novel there’s going to be spoilers under the read more! I talk about content as far ahead as novel 11. I think we’re safe on stuff from 12 tho!

If you want a no-spoiler summary: Colonel Calandro (not depicted here), Counselor Conrad, and Major Joachim

OK SO,

I think the main two that I like the most and are LN-Only so far are Colonel Calandro from Ildoa, who is the observer that ends up attached to the Salamander/Lergen Kampfgruppe on the eastern front and Counselor Conrad, the imperial diplomat that Lergen talks with a lot.

In Calandro’s case, he’s introduced I believe as early as book 6, so I think he’s probably the one of my favorites who is most likely to be in season 2, so I hope Studio Nut does well by him with a good design. In the sketches above, I decided against trying to make a design for him because 1) I got no ideas man and 2) I think (hope) he might show up in the anime soon so I’d like to hold off on drawing him until there’s an official one.

Anyway, a lot of his scenes are great when he’s attached to the Kampfgruppe. If I recall correctly, there’s this scene in one of the books (Book 7?) where he’s talking to Tanya as she’s making preparations to bombard what is obviously a church and he’s like “What are you doing? Isn’t that a war crime?” And Tanya just goes “No, no, it’s fine. They’re not openly displaying anywhere that this is a building used for religious purposes and even if they were, the other side hasn’t signed that treaty so it’s not like we have to adhere to it if they won’t.”

It’s such a funny scene. Tanya’s like, “Oh he’s concerned that we’re committing a crime. I should assuage him by telling him not to worry, we’ve managed to legally justify it.” And instead of any relief he’s just like “Oh my god what the fuck is wrong with them? Why would they ever think to circumvent treaties like this?”

They're funny as hell together and Tanya’s constant griping that she has to babysit him is so good, I hope we get to see it.

Also also a good scene with him is from the end of LN11 where Lergen calls him in the middle of the night, demanding to speak to him because it’s of vital importance. That ensuing conversation where Lergen’s basically like “I can’t say who’s calling, but you recognize me from the sound of my voice, right? Something’s going to happen. I’m really sorry, I can’t say anything more. Please just remember that I called, okay?” I’m so sorry… but it’s giving ‘Tragic Lovers Doomed To Breakup By Circumstances They Can’t Control’ vibes.

It is now my firmly set headcanon that Lergen and Calandro were lovers throughout and in spite of the war and when the time came for Lergen to choose whether to betray Calandro or his country, he chose to betray Calandro, something he feels immensely guilty about. I know it isn’t what Carlo Zen was trying to convey at ALL, but unfortunately that’s what I got from it. Thank you for coming to my TedTalk, moving on.

I guess next up is Counselor Conrad, the Empire’s diplomat who we first meet in LN10 I think? If we don’t get any content of him, I’ll literally cry. Depending on how far season 2 gets us in the story, we may not end up seeing Conrad and that’s so sad to me. There is a scene from LN10 that I absolutely need adapted into the anime. It’s like 160ish pages in. It’s that scene where Tanya, Lergen, and Conrad are talking with each other and Conrad turns to Lergen and gestures at Tanya and says “How did you raise this?” and Tanya’s like “????”

There is another scene where Lergen describes Conrad as handsome, and because of these two scenes, the delusional headcanon has sprung up that these two eventually end up in a relationship and Tanya is their daughter. I’ve mentioned it in another post. A friend of mine actually talks about Conrad (& Lergen and Tanya) in more detail in her post here. And hey, while I’m recommending posts about Conrad, look at all of these too okay?

Conrad actually has an official design in the novel artworks, so I based my above sketch around that. Here are the few canon images we have of him. Interestingly, in the text he's described as having blue eyes at some point, but the colored version we have has them as brown. These drawings come from Books 10 & 11 I believe?

Ok, last one, for minor characters, there’s Major Joachim who we meet around the end of LN11, who becomes Lergen’s subordinate. I think the best way to describe him is that he’s kind of a boyfailure in the way that Grantz is (that is to say before Grantz got some character development and became somewhat competent). He’s a cutie, I do hope we get some scenes of him.

I did actually do a little sketch of Joachim as we saw above. That one for some reason just came to me very easily, unlike Calandro. Here was my prelim sketch idea:

And I think that’s about it for now. If you note that all of these characters are in some way related to Lergen, um… Well, I can’t help myself really. We know by now he’s one of my favorites so I like characters associated with him too.

Lost fic HELPPP

The Witcher Geralt/Jaskier - Geralt is magically reverted back to his basic instincts (supposed to be monstrous) instead is cuddly and very protective of Jask

If you don’t know this fic but like the sounds of it there are spoilers at the end of the post you shouldn’t read - you should however like and rb so they we may all find and read this fic bc I highly recommend it! (If only I had saved it😭)

Ok SO. it’s starts with Triss being very worried about people going missing and she goes to Geralt for help - they find out the people going missing are Witcher supporters when jaskier talks to a group of musicians (?) in a tavern, explaining to them why Witchers are not evil “he could kill us all” “yes he could but so can I, he doesn’t for the same reason I don’t” which is that it’s wrong but also Geralt wouldn’t want him to - the group explains that a friend of theirs who supports Witchers has gone missing

Being the ultimate supporter of Witchers jaskier goes in as bait to draw out the kidnappers/murders

Jaskier ends up getting their attention but also ends up getting kidnapped and locked in a cell. While in the cell he speaks with a musician+witcher supporter who is the friend of the other musicians Jask talked to during the investigation-

During the villains token monologue he reveals his hatred for Witchers and mutants and plans to show the world how evil that are by reverting Geralt back to his basic instincts- thinking when he lets lose the evil animalistic Witcher on the town geralt will massacre it

Jaskier gets thrown into the same cage as Geralt (now presumably murderous and primal) as the captors believe Geralt will rip him to shreds

Instead Geralt scoops jaskier up and cuddles him in a corner. Geralt, seeing jaskier is hungry, kills him some rats for dinner and jaskier has to politely decline much to geralts disappointment. Geralt, because he is leveled to his basic instincts, bring jaskier his lute to play after dinner as that is their nightly routine, he also tries to sexual advance on jask but when jaskier reacts he backs off continues cuddling

Yennefer and triss arrive to save them and she thinks that Geralt will try non consensual things w jask, bc she knows abt geralts feelings, so she tries to get Geralt to come through a petal with her without jaskier

Instead Geralt at the last second grabs jaskier and runs threw the portal where they end up in kear morhen with vesimir lambert and eskel

Yennefer leaves so her and truss can find a magical remedy and Geralt whisks jaskier up to his room on to his bed filled with furs and does not let him leave.

Eventually lambert comes to bring food to the two of them, since Geralt won’t let either of them leave his room, and Geralt now sees lambert as a rival since jaskier took food from lambert and not him (the rats)

Geralt becomes very protective of jaskier, almost to the point of violence, and eskel and lambert take turns watching over the two in geralts room, eskel sits inside but lambert mostly sits outside bc of geralts aversion to lambert getting near jaskier

Eventually Geralt gets restless and lures eskel into a fight, when they figure out the Geralt j needs some exercise they let him out of the keep, Geralt runs out of the keep, kills something and then come back to show jaskier what he’s killed like a cat showing off a mouse it’s caught.

When Geralt gets his cognitive function back he apologizes for his behaviour thinking he is an unforgivable animal who deserves Jaskiers hatred and disgust, as he spent the week hoarding jaskier in his bed and trying to kiss him.

Jaskier says that Geralt “stopping his sexual advances because he knew jaskier didn’t want it was not the argument Geralt thought it was” regarding geralts perceived unforgivable behaviour while under the influence

Sleep Pretty Darling, Do Not Cry

You wonder what goes on in that little head.

So much pain, so much loss, so much anxiety. To be fostered by a man that the whole city knew of but knew nothing about, to lose your parents, to watch them die.

Like Bruce.

Perhaps there was no one better in Gotham to take in this child, no one else who could understand his pain like Bruce did. But Bruce was never good at that sort of thing with adults, never mind children. It took a long time, months of you knowing him to get even a semblance of emotion concerning his parents and his past trauma out of him. But you weren’t sure Dick could wait that long.

While Dick understands death is permanent, you aren’t sure it hit him entirely yet. He’s exuberant and talkative, telling you about animals he learned about in science class and what he did at recess. A typical child. But you see him crying sometimes when Bruce lets him watch TV and the kids in the shows go to hug their parents. So much like Bruce, soldiering it all on and never talking about it, acting like it was his fault and his responsibility and his cross to bear at such a young age.

He always shrugs you off when you make a big deal out of it; he’ll let you hug him sometimes but he won’t let you smother him like you want to. On one occasion he was particularly moody and irritable and told you off, saying, “You’re not my mom. You’ll never be my mom. Go away.”

You were inconsolable for a good couple hours and Bruce had to talk you down and remind you of how many times he said some variation of that statement to Alfred and didn’t mean it. It was the worst thing you could possibly say to an adoptive parent, you thought, but maybe he was really saying it an attempt to pawn off the hurt he felt and he didn’t know how much it was hurting you.

It still didn’t feel great.

Tonight, though, you’d had a good night. All four of you had dinner together, three generations with no blood ties. You and Bruce helped Dick with his homework (Bruce with English, you with math) and you helped him get settled for bed, snug in dinosaur pajamas, and you read him some of the Magic Tree House until he fell asleep. Brushing your lips against his forehead, you swallow back tears.

You know this boy doesn’t mean to be rejecting you, and that he doesn’t know how much it hurts you that he’s not opening up. You know he just went through probably one of the most traumatic experiences you can go through at that age. And you know ultimately he’s thankful you and Bruce took him in.

You just wish he would show you that he needs you in a more tangible way, not in that he needs you to make sure he has food on the table and for supervision for his safety, but that he needs you to hug him when he’s sad and wipe away his tears and give him life advice. You want him to need the comfort you’re so willing to provide.

You close his door quietly, and walk down the stairs to meet Bruce in the living room. Sitting on his lap, you let him wrap his arms around you, and you kiss him gently.

“He’s asleep?” Bruce asks you.

“Mm,” you answer.

“I have to go, soon.”

“I know.”

“Please don’t stay up until I get home again. You haven’t been sleeping.”

“Between you and Dick… I’m just constantly worried,” you admit, drawing your bottom lip between your teeth. “It’s okay. We both have been sleeping while he’s at school.”

“On the weekends you’ve been a zombie, recently.”

“I should’ve known an eight year old would wake us up at seven in the morning every day, I suppose.”

“What are you so worried about, anyway? If anything happens… I have you synced to my heart rate here. It’ll wake you up if there’s an issue,” Bruce says, wrapping his fingers around your wrist where the gadget bracelet was.

“Yeah. But if Dick needs me—“

Bruce laughs a little, his flickers of dimples twitching in his cheeks as his blue eyes gleam at you. “That boy would stop at nothing to wake you up if he needed you. You know that, right? You don’t have to worry about us.”

“I just… I don’t like that either. To feel like I’m just here, like I’m not needed,” you say, avoiding Bruce’s questioning gaze.

“What do you mean? Of course I need you here. You’re so good with him. And… I love you. He loves you,” he reassures you, rubbing your back softly.

“He doesn’t—“

“Shh. It’s been a month. I knew Alfred my entire life and I was… I was far from as pleasant as Dick is being now after my parents passed. You could’ve had much worse. I would’ve made you cry every day.”

You roll your eyes at him. “This is supposed to make me feel better?”

“It’s not working?” he asks and you shake your head. “I’m sorry, love. I’m not trying to be dismissive.”

“I know.”

“Help me get ready?”

You nod and laugh when he picks you up and carries you to the bedroom, and you look at him when he sets you down on the bed, his blue eyes twinkling and his lips curving into a smile. Chiseled jawline, strong hands, broad shoulders, sometimes you couldn’t quite believe he’s yours. The man you were going to marry, the man you’re raising a child with, the man you love. You lean forward to kiss him, thread your fingers in his hair and pull him closer to you. “I love you, Bruce.”

“I love you, too. And you’re an amazing mom. I don’t want you to doubt yourself. Okay? I couldn’t have asked for a better woman to bring children up with.”

You don’t say anything because you feel the cloying thickness in your throat and you know you would cry if you tried to speak. Bruce is a man of few words. That is, until he lets you in. What people don’t know is he has a way with words, a way to make you feel valued and appreciated without coming off as insincere. He means every syllable and you can feel it from his mouth to your heart.

Your favorite part of getting Bruce ready has got to be the makeup. Sure, he’s a grown man and he’s perfectly capable of putting it on himself, but you love to paint him black. You could have introduced him to waterproof pomade, but you like the way it streaks from his eyes from the sweat of his nightly antics a little too much to grant him that. Just womanly ulterior motives.

“Keep still. Christ. You act like I’ve never done this before,” you giggle, holding his chin in place after he turned his head to the side.

“I thought I heard something.”

“Probably Alfred.”

“Maybe.”

But then you hear a knock on the bedroom door, one that sounds like it was made from a tiny hand, not Alfred’s.

“Fuck. I have to go change if it’s Dick,” Bruce mutters.

“You have one eye done and you’re still in your regular clothes. Relax,” you whisper. “Dick, honey, is that you?” you call out, walking to the door. “What’s the matter?”

You open it, and sure enough, it is Dick, holding his teddy bear and looking forlornly at the floor, his small cheeks tear-stained. Looking up at you, he sniffles. “I h-had a n-n-nightmare,” he stutters, his breathing staggered. “I d-don’t f-feel good.”

You kneel down and hug him, feel his little fingers on your back and his scrawny arms around your shoulders. “What happened, honey?”

“Y-you and B-Bruce d-d-died. L-like my… m-my p-p-parents. I w-w-watched it.”

Be careful what you wish for, that cliched phrase you never took to heart until now. You had wanted to know you had a place in this boy’s heart, but not like this.

“No, honey. That’s not real. See? I’m still right here. And Bruce is right here too. See, honey? Open your eyes.”

Bruce walks over to the doorway, kneeling down next to you, taking one of Dick’s hands that was clawing into your back into his, squeezing it gently. “I’m right here, too,” he says. “No one else is dying.”

“Y-you don’t know that. You c-could leave me t-t-too,” Dick says.

“Listen, honey,” you say gently. “As long as we have anything to say about it, we’re not going anywhere. We’re alive and we’re here right now and we love you very much.”

“But if my parents d-d-died, you can, too.”

“Your dream didn’t really happen, honey. It was just a dream. Okay?”

“But what if you die? And I’m all alone again? And n-no one loves me?”

“Oh, honey,” you mutter, squeezing him tighter and letting a tear fall down your face. “I’m not going to lie to you because you’re very smart and you’ll know I’m a liar right away, won’t you?“

“Y-yeah. I can always tell when adults lie.”

You smile a little at that. “You know Bruce and I could die. If I told you we couldn’t die you know that would be a lie and you’d be upset with me. But what I can tell you is that we are alive right now and we love you very much. You have a whole family, now, too. You have Alfred and you have my father. If something happened to Bruce and I, they would be able to take you in. You wouldn’t have to be alone again.”

“I don’t want something to happen to you and Bruce.”

“I know, honey.”

“Can’t you promise me?” he asks desperately.

“We can promise to do everything we can,” Bruce says. “But you'd be upset with us if we promised. We can't promise to stay alive. But we can try. That's all anyone can do."

"I don't like that."

"We don't either. But you wouldn't like us to lie to you even more. I was there, Dick. I've been where you are right now. It's not easy. It's going to scare you. It's going to make you not want to get close to anybody ever again. It's going to make you afraid to love. It hurts. I know it hurts. I tried to close myself off from it, pretend like... pretend like I didn't care if Alfred lived or died when really, I was terrified just like you that I'd lose him. We can't take the place of your parents. We can't live forever. But we can love you right now and for as long as we are able."

"I-I guess," Dick says, his voice small. He lets go of you and shuffles over to Bruce's open arms, and you feel cold at the loss of his small body against yours, but the warmth in your heart at seeing Bruce with him makes up for it. Bruce's dark locks fall against Dick's head as he holds him to his chest, and you smile. Finally. He figured out how to say it.

"Do you feel better now?" you ask.

"I think so," Dick says, pulling away from Bruce to look at his face. "Why do you have makeup on?"

"Boys can wear makeup, too," you say.

"Okay. But Bruce only has it on one eye."

"I didn't finish it yet," Bruce says.

"Can I put it on you? Can I wear it too?!"

"Yeah. We can put it on you tomorrow," you laugh. "Do you think we can try to go back to sleep?"

"I don't know," he shrugs. "Can I have hot chocolate before I go back to bed?"

"Of course," you say, ignoring the look Bruce gives you.

"I'm scared the dream will come back," Dick says.

"I can stay with you tonight," you say. "Bruce has to... go to work. So I'll stay in your room with you tonight. Okay?"

"Okay," he says.

You head downstairs with Dick in tow and make a cup of hot chocolate with him on the stove. He's quiet, pensive, his eyes still puffy from crying. You hate that he has to grow up this fast, that you and Bruce couldn't sugarcoat anything. Any other kid comes to you telling you they had a dream their parents died and you'd send them off with some false reassurances. But maybe it was for the best, because for those kids who were told their parents couldn't die and then they did... that disillusionment after the fact must hurt even more than the truth would have.

"Can I have extra marshmallows?" he requests, looking at you with doe eyes.

"Of course," you tell him, unable to deny him anything at this moment.

You sit quietly in the dimly lit kitchen, and listen to Bruce leave; his motorcycle revving through the tunnel underneath you. You wish he was here. But you're not alone at night anymore, either.

"I love you," Dick says after he finishes the hot chocolate. "Maybe one day you will be my mom."

"Oh, honey," you breathe, your heart shattering into a million pieces and coming back together again all in the span of seconds. "I love you. So much. But I don't ever expect to take your mom's place."

"No. But I still need a mom."

"Of course, honey. I love you. Let's go brush your teeth again and go to bed, okay?"

"Okay." You hug him close to you again, feeling his little chest expand and contract as he breathes against you, so alive. Your heart feels so full you think it might burst.

He holds your hand as you walk up the stairs and he doesn't let go until he has to pick up his toothbrush.

No one ever said this would be easy. But it is definitely worth it.

I wanted to ask a question: I noticed whenever I see your twitter art and tumblr art even tho it’s the same fan art some of the stuff on tumblr is slightly different like obi-wan/anakin’s face is more structured on tumblr version or slight change of pose or adding new things like obi-wan’s red lingerie in your obi-wan’s history of bras/lingerie while he’s naked on twitter version. Do you purposely change it for tumblr?

My art-style has been mutating through the years since I graduated and nowadays I’ve found a nice balance with this sketchy one I’m currently using (definitely influenced by Mikael Ross, his traditional cartoonish style is a huge inspo for me when i do comics). but I love trying new methods and switching things up every now and then. And yes, the double lineart is intentional!! I like how it gives some dimension and dynamism to the anatomy and makes it feel like animation 💞

And you are very observant!!! Bc I definitely change things in my art when I post them to different sites. part of it is because I’m kind of a perfectionist, and once i post something on twitter i start noticing all the mistakes and tangents and I just know i won’t post it on tumblr until i feel satisfied and fix things or re-do them. on the other hand, tumblr is very strict with the nudity stuff and i keep getting flagged every time i post something slightly suggestive (or maybe someone is reporting me 👀 won’t be the first time tbh) so i gotta tone things down, like adding obi-wan’s red lingerie in that one fanart while on tumblr he’s showing ass and cock HAHAHA. so yep, twitter gets ass and tits while tumblr gets the fixed 2.0 stuff. but in some way i kind of like the idea of posting different things on each site, like little easter eggs 🥰

Marko loves art museums, like an unhealthy amount. He is always begging to go with someone, but the only one willing to go is max. He did go with Max one time and it was alright, but it was apparent Max was trying to pretend to know more than he did. So as soon as Marko realizes you want to go he’s scooping you on to his bike and driving. When you’re there, regardless of how much you know about art Marko is great to talk to. Dont know a ton about a specific style or era? Ask away bc he knows it! You know about it? Great! He’d love to hear your thoughts and discuss with you about what the artist was trying to convey

I believe Marko has a side of him most don’t expect. This shows up at the museum and later on appears more in your relationship. He’s actually freaky smart. Like if he was human he could have been a doctor if he tried a bit. He’s never had a huge interest in reading, but has several Italian books he reads every couple years. If you picked out a book for him and he likes it, then he’s more than happy to go to bookstores with you and let you expand his collection. You might have to remind him every couple days that he has the book, but when he finishes it get ready for 1 hour+ conversations about each one.

Marko is a Great listener, but not a great problem solver. So this works out great! He’ll have you sit next to or in front of him and vent while he plays with your hair, holds your hands, kisses your head, occasionally telling you he loves you and he’s sorry you’re upset. He has really big feelings, so when someone is upset he can relate and does his best to cheer you up, but he knows he has poor execution when handling problems and leaves that to others.

Marko likes skirts and dresses bc he can twirl you around. If you choose to turn, he buys a jacket and paints flower designs on it that match your favorite dress. Maybe he adds matching ones to a pair of shoes

The fantasy genre has been so dominated by Tolkien that I basically default to historical settings. It requires a lot of googling since I’m not the kind of person that really cares about history, oddly enough. I try to balance being somewhat accurate and hoping the reader is more invested in the events than the setting :’)

I think another part of it is that I don’t feel very confident in my ability to design futuristic technologies; whenever I try, I end up trying to draw my own blueprints and getting lost in the sauce. I find it more comfortable to rely on stuff that has already existed so I can focus on my blorbos

I’m trying to be better, but describing people has always been tough for me. “He’s tall with blond hair and has the correct amount of limbs. Also he’s wearing clothes.”

Whereas describing a setting I find it much easier to delve right into the mood.

Realistically the two aren’t so different — something in my mind just blanks when I’m trying to tell you what a person look like. I think part of me wants the reader’s imagination to fill in the blanks; your image of the villain based on his demeanour, dialogue, and actions is the most compelling version.

The first draft is filled with emotion: frustration, enthusiasm, novelty, disappointment, desperation, epiphany! The roller coaster is not an easy one to ride, but dear god it makes me feel alive

love triangle in everything or no romantic arcs

…I love a love triangle, but in everything? No, there are too many ideas and concepts to explore than has nothing to do with romance.

But I mean, it would be funny to insert a love triangle in every work. It would be a running gag. It doesn’t have to be the main characters — make it some tertiary characters. If I had a following, I would go feral waiting for my readers to guess who would be in the triangle this time

constant sandstorm or rainstorm

I think a constant rainstorm would be kind of dreary in a setting but having to think about how crusty a sandstorm is would make my skin itch. I couldn’t possibly endure

saw your tlou2 thoughts and as someone who didn’t agree with the direction tlou2 went thought i’d explain…

the main issue is that the story doesn’t trust the player enough to let them come to their own conclusions. yes the idea is to have you sympathize with abby, but they try so hard to do so it comes across as forced and ingenuine (ellie met a zoo animal so abby must also have cute interaction w a zoo animal! abby plays w dog so ellie must kill that same dog!) I went into the game wanting to like Abby, and I don’t think that Joel shouldn’t have died! But I don’t need 15 hours of gameplay to appreciate Abby, in fact, the further her section went on, the more I distanced from her because it became so painfully obvious that the game was trying desperately to suddenly make me like her. The comparisons they attempted to draw to Ellie felt shallow and the entire 15 hour section felt crammed in and something that could have been handled so much more efficiently and thoughtfully.

Abby has done absolutely horrible things (murdered countless Scars as part of a malicious military group whose seeming sole purpose is to kill anyone who intrudes on their territory, relished in the opportunity to kill a young pregnant woman, knowingly had sex with a man cheating on one of her only friends, these aren’t even including the joel situation) I won’t deny that Ellie has done horrible shit as well, and I don’t agree with her Seattle/SantaBarbara rampage. But to see so many people and the narrative itself uphold Abby as the “better” person is so strange to me?

There are many more issues I have with tlou2 but this was the big one for me. I think a lot of tlou2 critics aren’t taken seriously (you just don’t like it bc you don’t like strong female leads! you just don’t like it bc you don’t get it! you don’t understand how bad revenge is!) instead of leaving room for open narrative discussion. I still think it’s got some truly beautiful moments but the story overall left such a bad taste in my mouth. Apologies for this stupidly long message, feel free to ignore but just wanted to offer up my thoughts.

This has a lot of the same points as the longer ask I just posted I just wanted to say I get you and I think these are valid points.

I think a critical look at the characters should show that neither Abby or Ellie are “good” or “bad” and there’s not a hero or a villain in this story, and it’s reductive to place them in those roles. But perhaps the game does try to say that Ellie is the loser and Abby is the winner at the end?

My initial post was specifically about seeing lots of comments that I see that say “I hate Abby because she killed Joel” which I think is a lot less justified and nuanced than the kinds of takes in my inbox.

How I would remake Twilight:

1. First and foremost, there will be no imprinting on babies here. Not even a no but HELL NO

2. The 5 Cullen “kids” are not already in relationships when the story starts. Emmett and Rosalie are on the verge but angst keeps them apart. Alice can’t see who she falls in love with. Jasper is in the closet. Edward is still pretty but bitchy.

3. Bella isn’t the bestest most specialish girl when she arrives. She is observed for the shiny new thing she is but is quickly forgotten as she is not sociable and has weird fascinations.

4. Jacob is there, but he is older (like by two years or smth) and gives off more big brother vibes to the audience, but Bella is smitten with him.

5. Carlisle and Esme are married, but tend to lead a more open marriage life style (consensually from both parties and neither feel like full commitment to the other), but have no plans to introduce another into the relationship. They do see Alice, Jasper, Emmett, Rosalie, and Edward as their own.

6. Carlisle is less nice and more strict but not in a dickhole way. Like…could you imagine being a vampire dad to 5 fully grown monster toddlers…

7. Charlie is there and single still. But after Bella and Edward start dating, he begins to see the good doctor more. I think it would be hilarious for Charlie and Bella to both know about vampires but try to keep it secret from each other.

Charlie finds out via his budding friendship with Carlisle and his lovely wife Esme somehow idk maybe Carlisle saves him bc he is a cop. Charlie 10/10 develops a crush and gets to have all the internal dilemma that has nothing to do with sexuality but “but he’s married” kind of thing

Idk what the resolution needs to be here but yeah

8. Bella meets Edward who reacts the same but mainly due to his thirst. He misses one day of school, and returns but acts stiff and uncomfortable around her.

MEANWHILE Alice introduces herself to Bella and they become friends. Alice spending time with Bella draws in Angela and Jessica, very heavy implications that Angela is not straight.

9. Jacob shows up from time to time and there is weird tension between him and Alice. It’s where he is a werewolf and doesn’t know, but Alice has a hunch as he reeks of them. Since this is my silly AU, Jacob x Alice are long game, insane slow burn, ETL. You get forbidden romance, they can fight each other and not die, but also have so much chemistry and tension to drive people crazy. They won’t even kiss till like the final arc, won’t even be nice until like…season 3.

10. Btw in my head, each season covers 1 book, and the final battle/epilogue will be a mini series (4 seasons, and a few episodes to make up a “movie”)

11. Season one finale ends like the movie, BUT it ends with Carlisle being summoned to the Volturi.

12. The werewolf thing will be treated more as a family thing as opposed to a spiritual animal thing. And oh yeah, after Bella is like for sure about vampires being real she totally asks Edward “hey what else is real that I don’t know about” but he lies (bc he thinks that it’s protecting her)

thematically, she absolutely is what kenshin aspires to be. he adores her motto of use the sword to protect, not harm. like he’s so tired of being battosai, he doesn’t want to be battosai at all, and kaoru is able to draw out the gentleness that he buried deep within himself for so long, she is able to make him happy in a way that he couldn’t be, even if, granted, execution was awful in this show and i expected... much better than i got

but holy crap i got annoyed her during kenshin’s fight with saito. after? when she doesn’t want kenshin to return to being a killer.

but before that, i agreed with her! bc kenshin wanted a quiet life, a peaceful life, and kaoru was giving him that, in a way he didn’t allow himself to have during the past ten years. and i was so so annoyed at everyone who wanted the battosai back. it was annoying that kaoru constantly got damselled so kenshin would rescue her bc she was his weak spot, even tho she tried!!!! to fight!!!! everyone else just was stronger.

(and then saito appears and it’s like. damn i’m not immune to fucking awesome battles. the battosai awoke and i wanted more.)

and it’s not that kenshin wants to be the battosai after that battle, but he has also no choice but to become him again (but less a mere tool) in order to defeat the second battosai. so he’ll do it, bc he feels bound by duty to see it through.

(and then the anime kind of shunts kaoru, and occasionally cuts back to her, but also not that often.)

but i think that it works better with kaoru bc RK was constantly asking, at least initially, where do you go if your country no longer needs you like before? how do you move on, when your country has, and you haven’t? kenshin found kaoru’s dojo perfect. bc he found the goal so inspiring. and so hopeful and fitting with what he wanted.)

i don’t think she’s insufferable about it (yet), but. there are times that i’m getting more annoyed at how she acts when she’s preventing/catastrophizing ueki’s fate. so she’s... getting more irksome, but idk what happens.

so i think the difference between kaoru is, he does agree with kaoru, honestly, but he’s forced time and time again, to resort to methods he hates to save the day, albeit he focuses v. hard on not killing people. what kaoru wants is ultimately what kenshin wants to. he just... can’t do it quite as well bc people keep on coming after him and/or dragging him into their wars.

i don’t really think RK implements the opposition well, but it is there. and i think it’s interesting to consider with the themes of what it’s trying to say, however frustrating and uneven it is.

but ueki. doesn’t really agree with ai, bc he’s not really there to prevent fighting, if he feels like it, he’ll fight, whereas ai is just trying to prevent fights at all costs (and failing), but he doesn’t dislike ai either. she sticks around, and idk, i don’t think ueki cares one way or another if ai is there or not, to some degree, even if she meddles. he’s never really argued with her, just expressed mild confusion, tbh, as she struggles to keep him alive and minimize harm.

you’re going to need some patience to try and show him you’d choose him, and not your bias, even if you had the chance

they’re completely different people and you love him BECAUSE he’s jisung, not for any other reason

please reassure him so he can go back to acting like his authentic self, i think it would be such a relief for him too

your words and affection are obviously enough for him, but if it ever happens that he feels especially low and insecure again, it would help if your bias talks to him too

and taeyong wouldn’t have a problem with it

actually, scratch that, taeyong probably knew what was going on all along

he just has that motherly 7th sense (ay) that is even more acute with the dreamies cus like
