Tomarry AU where Tom HATES this book he read because his favourite character dies a miserable death. So what if his favorite character was a no-named side villain? Why does it matter that he only had like seven lines (seven is Tom's favourite number anyways)? He was still gorgeous, smart and strong and beautiful — and it doesn't matter that others think he isn't all that because they would never know him— understand him like TOM DOES.
An AU where Tom has a healthy obsession with a character named Harry Potter, a no named baron's son who was the first to go against the king (MC's father, and the mc who is incidentally known as Draco Malfoy, ahem anyways); he tries to “poison” him. But he gets caught or to be more precise he ends up sacrificing himself for the common girl Hermione Granger (the female lead, I'm sorry guys but imagine the fucking drama.) who gets blamed for his transgressions.
But that is not why Tom falls for this weak villain, no — it's because he respects how this no-named orphan became a baron on his own two feet without anyone being there for him especially in a world where old money and title is everything— and he hates how he had to give his life for the MC to notice the female lead? (Harry is better looking and smarter than her anyways — Tom, in an online forum perhaps.)
Anyways, now imagine Tom dying (he hated it so yes he ends up looking for immorality anyways.) and waking up in the world he hated. Now imagine, Tom Riddle, waking up in the body of a Duke who wasn't even given a name in the novel. (He would know because he has a photographic memory, ok? It's totally not because he read it more than 14 times) and then saying fuck it and owning it.
Just think, Tom taking over the world slowly with his worldly knowledge while trying to keep Harry alive because even though he was right about Harry being smart; the guy treats his life like Draco treats his money - you get the idea.

brother crab's winter 2024 parting thoughts: ishura s1
Tumblr media
tl;dr was originally meh on this for reasons that really aren't fair, ultimately wound up enjoying it well enough to pick up s2, but wouldn't necessarily recommend (especially if you'll be bothered by the fact that it's Very slow)
full review:
you know what i think for the first half of the season i really didn't give this show a fair shake. based on a skim of its summary and the fact that it had the battle royale tag, i went in thinking it would be structurally similar to shuumatsu no valkyrie (which i'd recently binged and enjoyed immensely)
and that sort of battle royale, a tournament between a roster of op heroes, does seem to be coming up. but unlike snv, ishura doesn't dump us straight into the tournament. there's a whole lot of buildup to it, in fact...
the whole first season is buildup for the tournament to choose a hero, which isn't necessarily a bad thing! just isn't what i expected, so i was a bit on the fence for a while
ultimately though i think i did enjoy this series. it's heavy on the action (and gore) but most of the fight scenes are pretty banging, and the cast is full of fairly interesting characters (many of whom are not long-lived lmao)
some of the characters are so cool, in fact, that it feels like a shame to not get more time with them. the pacing didn't feel bad or anything, but it's a very, for lack of a better word, scattered series. not in a negative way, though, because the relatively huge cast provides a wider look at the world. it's just a lot of build-up and so far not much payoff (but clearly it's the start of a longer thing, so i guess to me that's fine)
the worldbuilding to me is by far the strongest point of the series, even stronger than the action sequences. there are some elements of it that i really love, like the naming conventions ("taren the guarded" "dakai the magpie" "alus the star runner" and so on, instead of family surnames) and the word arts magic
the (fairly early) reveal that not only humans and wyverns but even these... constructs? that seemed like mechanical golems? could use this word arts magic was fantastic to me, and i hope we get to see more interesting things of that nature as we continue
ishura has had a second season announced and even though i was a bit lukewarm on it for half this season, i do think i'll continue. if only because the cast is absurdly stacked and i go where my favorite voice actors go lol
i would still say it isn't exactly exceptional as a fantasy action series, but does do some interesting things with worldbuilding that i don't think i've seen much of before (but i also haven't watched fantasy extensively yet, so don't have too much to compare)
dakai my beloved freak i miss u already umu it was such a trip hearing hoshi souichirou voice a character like dakai though lol i mean i'm sure he's done many before but i more associate him with darling momo revale (and more recently saiyuki swk) so this was. new. and a treat

Old Joke New World
Ok. I might be lame. But I love having a character do an old joke in a new world. And even having characters know just enough to be like "oh god they are being cringe". It's fun and I love it.
Like this bit:
Tumblr media
By the way. That's the Orc. The orc that wasn't supposed to show up for like two more arcs. And then not until the end of the elf arc. And now he's here. And he's gonna stick around. Because reasons.
Check out today's update to see which reasons.

Jay, but he isekai-ed into one of those harem villainess stories.
how dare you call me out
Jay was reading a new series on request of his mom, called "The Siege of Sapphire".
It was a good read, the Villain being in a love triangle with the Princess and the Main Character.
The Villain was a Duke that was in love with the Princess, but since the Main Character swooped in as a national hero, they were loved by the royal family and the princess had an affair. (but wahhhh they're in love and the villain was sooooo bad /s)
Jay didn't like the villain cause he was a clingy, egotistical, insecure, immature young man that never understood why the princess wanted some independence (gee who does that remind him of?)
The Villain eventually tried raising a rebellion and was killed by the main character, and his entire family were exiled or executed for being related regardless of involvement.
Jay didn't like that, a lot of the family were elderly and young that had no clue what the Villain did until he was dead.
So when one mission gave him a good bonk on the head and some building debris fell on him- he woke up as Jullian Walek, Duke of the Sapphire Kingdom.
A lot of characters seem to look or act like his friends and family at home??? So it wasn't him, these other characters are like his own back in Ninjago.
His parents are his bio, but they've been busy doing their own stuff like partying an being unfaithful.
"Jullian" was instead raised by his loving grandparent, Edward and Eveline. The first to be executed in the og story.
The princess Nala (Nya) he tries to break off the engagement with as they grow into teens cause he 1. wants to support her and 2. wants to avoid meeting the hero.
Her older brother Kane (Kai) seems to be confused by "Jullian's" refusal to marry his sister.
A young servant Zeke (Zane) is his best friend and essentially his "lady in waiting".
And the hero, Corin (Cole), comes in and somehow still ran into "Jullian" and now Corin is being hosted at the Walek Mansion instead of the Princess' castle???
Something Jay skimmed over when reading the book was that it was written by a new author that hated how normal love triangles was always two guys directing their attention to one girl.
A new approach the author wrote was to bridge the gap between the two men.
What Jay failed to remember is that Corin and the og Jullian had something going on behind the scenes, but it ended without any resolution for Corin to immediately become engaged with Princess Nala. And og Jullian was pissed that both his love interests dumped him to be together.
(The author got heavily edited/censored, so og Jullain and Corin's romance was never properly explored)
So now it's not just a plan to avoid marrying Nala (even with the better relationship they have). Now he has to avoid that and getting involved with Corin!
Somehow Zeke and Kane are starting to harbor feelings towards "Jullian" too?????
Jay wants to go home...

i’m very disappointed with myself with how much i’ve been sidelining haikyuu on my blog, despite it being arguably my favourite piece of media ever
with that being said, my goal for the rest of the year will be writing sth for it that i can fully stand behind, so that i don’t have to fight the urge of hiding away my hq masterlist, and to interact more with other hq writers/ creators, so that i can gush more about my precious beans

Re:Monster... I don't know how to feel about it.
I'd say it's got me curious - but that whole first episode, outside of its basic premise of "I've been reborn with the memories of my previous life intact, gotta Get Good if I want to survive", just had me suspending my disbelief pretty much throughout. You mean to tell me the goblin leader, who's twenty years of age is considered elderly by goblin standards, has lived with what I guess is his tribe in that cave the whole time - and didn't bother to at least teach them how to sustain themselves before going out into the world? You mean to tell me they didn't do anything at all in the cave before Gobrou incarnated into their world and did it for him? How the hell did they survive up to that point? No one else in the tribe knows about the Level Up system that dictates their evolutionary status.
There's also the fact that Gobrou outright states he came from a world where ESP is a thing and that his Consumption ability was rare. Like, I get this is (what appears to be) an isekai power fantasy and he had to reincarnate from his sci-fi setting to Earn A Level in Kindness and put his Order skill to use, but that's a whole ass story being teased that we could've been told right there. I would've liked to have known more about Gobrou's previous life (even if that, too, was just him being OP).

If you were isekaied into 13–year-old you’s favorite show, would you survive?
(If you’re somehow under 13 on this site… then I guess use whatever your favorite show is now.)
