#I hate danzo

sorry to still be thinking about it but its amazing the amount of people who are willing to overlook one of the core elements of konoha's history (and by extension of naruto as a whole) which is the marginalisation and straight up segregation of the uchiha clan just because the character who kickstarted all of it has a cool design and is really strong. tobirama hated the uchiha to the point where his own brother while on his DEATHBED had to make him promise not to hurt them so he made up the police force and assigned it to the uchiha so they could be effectively unable to do literally any other job while also making sure everyone else in konoha hated them because they felt constantly under watch by the red eyed freaks. tobirama's excuse was that he didnt actually hate the uchiha, just madara, who was coincidentally their most powerful member, so the uchiha exiled him bc they believed tobirama. and what did that accomplish? that when madara died nobody claimed his body and tobirama took it to STUDY it and then buried him in an unmarked grave (which ironically worked in madara's favor later). tobirama "i dont hate the uchiha one of my students was an uchiha" senju just so happened to also "raise" one of the biggest uchiha haters in konoha history, danzo, who not only furthered their marginalisation and demonization but also orchestrated their whole entire MASSACRE just so he could steal their eyes.

I really think Danzō and Sakumo had a hate hate relationship. Sakumo thought Danzō was a conniving despicable man and Danzō thought Sakumo was a threat to his goals.

I also think Danzō was genuinely afraid of Sakumo. Would avoid direct confrontations at almost any cost. Danzō demanding Kakashi join Root only happened bc Danzō didn't think Sakumo would outright refuse. After that Danzō made sure to never interact with Sakumo again without the hokage being there too.

God, I can't express how painful and depressing Itachi's whole story is. Episode #359 goes into a bit of detail about what Danzo and Co. stole from him. It wasn't just the fact that he committed an atrocious act against his will — he killed his entire clan, his parents, and left his brother alone. But also the fact that his name, his reputation, his legacy was tarnished forever. He averted the war. But who cares about that, right? He was the scapegoat. He sacrificed himself. He let himself be used so that things wouldn't go worse.

He carried the raging guilt in him, and even was convinced that he deserved the worst kind of death at the hands of the person he loved the most. That he had no chance at redemption. I have no doubt that the reason he caught his illness was because he was suffering so much. Probably all the heartbreak and emotional pain got to him. After all, the Uchiha do feel things deeply. He never got to express himself. He watched the tumult in the world and stayed silent, never offering his opinions unless absolutely necessary.

He endured the darkness, not because he liked it, but because he didn't think he deserved the light. He was so bright as a child. He could have been an asset to anyone he belonged, but he detached himself from the world and its joys. For all the goodness he harboured as a child, he was doomed to fall to the darkness. His endurance was tested beyond his limits and he still went on. Taking medicines every day so that he could live a little longer. So close to dying but he couldn't afford the luxury of death either because an easy death wasn't what he deserved in his eyes. So he punished himself with his prolonged life.

Other stuff I’m thinking about that’s funny to me but probably not to the rest of you:

Danzo doing something to upset genin Naruto, and Naruto pranking Danzo in a way that’s actually really terrifying, like sneaking into his house completely undetected, leaving behind “blood” on the walls that calls out Danzo’s past sins (his sins being whatever he did to upset Naruto, but considering all the shit Danzo’s done, he’s become convinced it’s vengeful ghosts), getting into Danzo’s secret stuff that was supposed to be untouchable, etc

This whole thing ends up getting to Danzo (especially after Naruto fucks with the hokage monument to mess with Danzo, accidentally convincing him that Tobirama, who Danzo looks up to, is disgusted by what he’s done) and he has a bit of a breakdown and confesses to all of his sins pretty early on in canon

Everyone else who hears about what he’s done and what made him crack are all also low key convinced it was vengeful ghosts who’ve had enough of him, Naruto just stays really quiet cause he had no idea this would be the outcome, he just wanted apology ramen

Honestly I'm of the idea that Minato didn't even really need to seal Kurama into Naruto...

Let's ignore the fact that since he sealed half of it in himself he could have sealed it fully and could have killed Kuram alongside himself, let's ignore that for the whole "Bijuu help with the power balance between villages" thing or whatever bullshit they have going on with the Bijuu, maybe he thought it was better to leave Konoha with that kinda power against possible attacks or whatever

But what about Kushina? We know that Uzumaki have insane endurance and enough stubborness to be super hard to kill, as shown by the fact that Naruto and Kushina are the only Jinchuuriki not immediately dying upon losing the Bijuu (not counting Gaara who died and came back), and that a Bijuu's healing factor is even more insane than that... So why the Hell didn't Minato seal Kurama back into Kushina to have him forcibly heal her lest he'd die with her? I mean, we know Kurama doesn't want to die, especially not at that point in time

Whenever I think about it I'm always like, "What the Hell Minato!!!" and my... Not hatred, hatred is a strong word, but... Maybe distaste is a better word to describe how I feel about Minato. My distaste for him grows just a tiny little bit each time

And we could have still had our Naruto- Minato could have split Kurama between Naruto and Kushina instead of Naruto and himself, so that at least Naruto would have had his mom by his side and not grow up alone

I get it that he was under a lot of pressure because of the situation, but still... A better solution was right in front of him

All of this! Same! Just adding these two points:

1- I don't remember the details anymore, sometime soon I will have to go back and check Minato's reasoning for the sealing again, so for now I can't say I agree with these lovely alternatives or see them working. But I always try to keep in mind that Kishimoto most likely could not predict he would end up with that situation when he made Naruto not have parents. (As you can see I have the habit of seeing all sides of the story even the outside 🫠)

2- I don't hate Minato either, he just annoys me!

This is during the scene where Limbo is in the process of repairing Danzou, and barely restraining his violent urges towards her. The fic is an excellent exploration of their relationship, and how unsettling and cruel their fixation on Danzou is.

kishimoto might have been a mostly bad writer but he kinda went off with Breaking The Cycle as an overarching theme of the whole series

Ok so I thought we were all in agreement that the third was the worst Hokage??

Like he literally left baby Naruto to live on his own and went on to forbid ever telling him about the nine-tails incident, so he didn't even know why people hated him. Also, I'm not even sure all of them (the civilians mostly) knew what really happened that night since they all called him "the demon fox" and whatnot, but Hiruzen did nothing about that even when Minato wanted Naruto to be recognised as a hero. (Although Hiruzen doesn't take all the blame, Kakashi & Jiraiya didn't do shit either)

Also, he basically let Danzo do all the things he did without consequences? For instance: the uchiha clan massacre. No matter what some of yall say, it could have been avoided.

How so? Well, first, they started to feel more rejected by/suspicious of the village because they were pushed out in one corner of the village after the kyuubi's attack and were being watched by Anbus 24/7. That was after they were given the orders not to engage in the fight against the kyuubi.(which made them look suspicious in the eyes of the village cuz they didn't do asscrack). Who proposed that? Danzo and the council. And who let it happen? You guessed it, sarutobi. Yeah, sure, he was against it, but he is the Hokage. He is the one making the big decision in the end. (Tsunade literally showed that when she was the hokage)

Even after, it could still have been avoided if they talked to the Uchiha or Fugaku (the clan head) about everything and came to an agreement. Asking for their terms would show his willingness to right the wrongs against them and they surely would've been able to negotiate. Like, I know the uchihas were mad, but they're not stupid, and none of them wanted a full-blown war. They were just pushed into it because they didn't see any other option. If the talking didn't do anything, there was still Shisui. His plan would've worked, maybe not permanently, but it still would've bought them some time to think about a long-term solution. But Danzo killed him, so yeah.

ALSO DANZO LITERALLY TRIED TO KILL HIM??????

All to say that he was a bad Hokage because he repeatedly made the worst decisions, and I'm just saying that if any other hokage was in his position, they would've done better.
