Compleat Grist

I often fall back on more humanoid designs for these, it’s nice to draw a real fucking thing for once

I want to be clear, the porcelain plating is completely stolen. Technically there’s a little compleated Grist inside this, but the whole exoskeleton is either stolen, scavenged, or absorbed from some poor centurion who fell prey to the Hunger Tide.

i know everyone is praising ify for how he’s playing this season and i do think he is slaying but some of his moves kinda bother me😭😭😭i didn’t like how he took all the drug juice i feel like brennan obviously had a plan for how that was gonna work with persimmon dead AND everyone would’ve got a cool moment with the drugs but he kinda just took it :/ obviously it worked out and it did lead to that convo w liv and russell but idk i felt like jacob in that moment and i’m not even playing LMAO like i would rather have just seen what brennan was gonna do and got to see how everyone was gonna take it

Randomly thinking about “tolerate it” (narrator voice: it was not random) and how under the cloak of fiction it is ostensibly inspired by works like “Rebecca” (which Taylor said she read during the 2020 lockdowns I believe?), with the line of “you’re so much older and wiser” indicating that the speaker is significantly younger and inexperienced compared to the person she’s speaking to and a pretty direct reference to the plot of the book.

But I saw something somewhere once that stuck with me about how it might not be referring to relative age between the characters but chronological age as in the passage of time in a relationship. And that made me think about how in a contemporary context, it might not necessarily be referencing an actual age gap between the two characters, but rather a sarcastic or cynical response to the man’s claims that he has matured (“you’re so much older and wiser [than you were before/than you were when we met/etc.]”), which then made me think about that line in relation to the woman. And that it could be taken like, “you act like you’ve matured so much in our time together and like you know everything, while I’m supposedly still stuck as the girl I was when we first met.”

Which then made me think of the “right where you left me” of it all and did you ever hear about the girl who got frozen time went on for everyone else she won’t know it and the bit in Miss Americana where she talks about how celebrities get frozen at the age at which they got famous, and how she’s had to play catch up in a lot of ways not just in her emotional growth but kind of in general. (Which also made me wonder if she’s ever been called out for immaturity/lack of curiosity/lack of education about things in her life…)

Which then made me think about the rest of the song, and @taylortruther’s posts yesterday about “seven” and “Daylight” and the way Taylor idealizes her youth yet contrasts it with an almost sinister reality in its wake, and the line, “I sit by the door like I’m just a kid,” because the discussion raised that her relationship let her recapture some of the childlike joy and wonder she’d lost. So this line is a double-edged sword: the speaker sits by the door with childlike hope that the person will come home and cherish her, but on the darker side, feels like the child dealing with the monsters she doesn’t have names for yet and the feelings of isolation she felt as she aged.

I’m not saying the song is necessarily autobiographical; like most of the songs on folkmore, it’s clearly a fictionalized story based on media she’d consumed and created, but we know a lot of the fictional songs were infused with her own feelings and experiences and… This idea swirling in my head picked up steam and now I kind of can’t stop thinking about it. Sorry but I’m a little obsessed now.

Like maybe it might start to shed light on why she identified so strongly with the novel in the first place…

Astarion x Tav fic concept

An Astarion x Tav fic where Tav has trauma around virginity and Astarion being the man he is always making his little jokes about it. Tav tries to just ignore it but as they grow close it hurts them more and more until they either just snap or completely withdraw from him. Leading to him confronting them about it and a long talk. Astarion not sure how to comfort them offers, “if it would help darling, I could be your first.” Tavs is confused by this at first but he continues that virginity is a stupid concept anyways. Then he asks more properly, “Tav, would you do me the honor of giving me your virginity?” Followed by a night of him treating them like the most delicate innocent prince/Princess making sure they’ll never remember anyone before he crash landed in their life.

After he drops the virginity joke replacing them with teasing Tav about taking theirs.

One thing I love about mutant mayhem is that Leo has a crush on an April who’s not conventionally attractive. listen i’m not saying it happened but i am saying it is canon that after the war in the absence of her father baela does go on what is pretty easily understood as this like. almost yearlong series bender in flea bottom trying to emulate him. and daemon who again she is both alike and trying to emulate really only sought out mirrors of himself in partners. and being the only two people (plus one deeply traumatized baby brother) left standing from their family plus the hard switch from being the perpetual favorite to being the problem of the two could have made that relationship baela had with her sister weirder. and I think there being a reason that she ended up way more In The Cycle stuck in this bad marriage with her unclecousin that she did willingly seek out while in comparison Rhaena seems to have been much more well-adjusted just hanging out in Oldtown very separate from the Targaryen family legacy would make sense. like was it fully There i don’t think so but weird messy codependency blurriness between the sole survivors of the weird messy blood curse incest family? not an unlikely thing to happen
