Yeah, that was Wally <XD I doodled that on the screen while kind'a forgetting all the stuff I've talked about Welcome Home recently. How I don't wanna join the fandom and such..

But to be honest I've been kind'a torn on Welcome home over the past few days. I recently developed 3 big main reasons why I don't want to join the fandom and draw the characters. But those reasons are quickly starting to dissolve-

Reason #1. Now I don't know if I just saw the wrong side of the fandom, but it felt like everywhere I went there was shipping content. Cannon or not, it was everywhere. And of course I'm known for not liking ships or really drawing any lovey dovey content.. I was worried enough about people tagging all of my Welcome Home art as shipping, that I figured I'd save myself the trouble and just.. not post any art of it all together.

But then I thought about it.. I mean, Undertale was a huge shipping fandom too. And I was able to weasel my way around all of that and come out unscathed. Surly the Welcome Home shipping fandom wouldn't be much harder to navigate.. right?

Reason #2. I wasn't really sure.. what to draw exactly. Everyone seems to have their own interpretation for the story of Welcome Home. Wally's the Bad guy, no House is the bad guy and he's controlling Wally, no no Wally and House are both the bad guys together. Their world is real- no actually its all make believe and Wally is the only one who knows its fake- aaaa so many stories!

I felt like it would take a lot of work and research to make my own version/interpretation of the story and the characters. So I just dropped it and didn't want to bother. I'm still so busy...

...But then its like 4 AM and I have ideas for redesigns of every character, a story is being constructed, angsty situations are being plotted, lore is growing- I hardly know much about Welcome Home truly, yet I already have a whole world built that I wanna start drawing-

But! Its reason #3 that's kept me from drawing anything. Clown, the series creator.

Looking around the fandom.. It seems that Clown is like me. They have certain boundaries when it comes to their characters and what they do and do not approve of others drawing about it. I know about the copywrite issues they're dealing with.. people selling merch of their characters and profiting.. its really sad. But there's more to it.

I saw some artwork for Welcome home and went to the comments. Everyone was like "I'm so glad to finally find an artist that respects Clowns boundaries!" And I'm like uh oh- are people drawing things that make Clown uncomfortable? Has Clown been dealing with that? What are those boundaries? Is anything I would like to draw something that would cross said boundaries?

So out of laziness to not dig deeper to find these boundaries, but also wanting to RESPECT said boundaries.. I just cut off any artwork from being made all together.

But my interest in this series is definitely getting stronger. And maybe sometime after these projects are finally off my chest, I'll look into Clown and see if any of my artwork would cross a line..

For now I'm too lazy, and too busy to make any artwork for Welcome Home <XDDD Maybe someday though!

TLDR; The #1 reason why I haven't drawn Welcome Home fanart is because I think Clown has certain boundaries when it comes to fanart. And I don't know what they are, I am also too lazy to look into it. So I just decided to not draw anything at all until further notice <XDD

(more info under cut bc my thoughts were so long i didnt wanna bloat the tags)

so i had the stupid idea to write the "deltarune" and "undertale" logos in each others fonts, and then it spawned this whole other idea of an au game of deltarune characters in the undertale premise.

it would take place around the same time as the actual deltarune, just a couple years in the future (so still the 2000's) meaning humans don't have mages anymore, so rather than being sealed underground the monsters just seek refuge inside the mountain. though, this time the monsters do actually have magic, otherwise the battles wouldn't work :P.

since they were just living in a town, i imagine the monsters don't have a king, but since asgore was the police chief he'd probably be the "leader" of the underground since hes still an authority figure, and the royal guards would just be other characters on the force.

of course because this is DELTARUNE, there's going to be a ton of dark world stuff incorporated into it. i only sprited jevil and spamton (because i Love Them but i think everyone who's been seeing my art recently can tell that), but i plan on adding more darkners X) i just have to really consider who, i don't think ralsei will be here >_> i love him but i'm not sure how it would work since yknow... boss monsters. plus spade king and queen will probably be ruled out because there's no monarchy in this version of the underground.

actually going back to spamton, my idea was that he could take the place of mettaton, since mettaton doesn't have a robot form and alphys isn't a scientist, the idea was that he was a virus noelle accidentally "created" by clicking on a spam link that became self aware. she combined a chair with a monitor to give him a body, because he was trying to take over her home PC lol, but he doesn't have any of the features mettaton had in UT. also yeah he's gonna be in the spamton neo body, probably in genocide, or maybe for EX. idk yet. yeah this is all just a big reference to the fact that mettaton created the spamton neo body in deltarune LMAO. as for jevil... hes, uh... hes there! i don't know what i'm gonna do with him yet.

that's the most i'm willing to share at the moment X) don't get your hopes up though because the possibility of this becoming a real game is 0.0000001%. Coding is a nightmare and i genuinely can't wrap my head around it so that's never gonna happen! but to whoever is reading this i hope you find the concept at least a little bit interesting :]

Hello, hello. The name's Mare Birch (call me Marie at your own peril) and I'm 18. You may know me as the Hero of Hoenn who saved the world from Groudon and Kyogre and Deoxys' Meteor. Or maybe you don't know me at all because nobody ever seems to recognize me even though I've saved the entire world at least twice maybe more.

Anyways, I'm the Chosen of Rayquaza which basically meant Rayquaza looked at me and said "yeah, I wanna give her superpowers. That seems like a good idea." And it was cause now I can save so many people!

I am also a powerful user of Aura. Like, really powerful. I like to consider myself a Human/Lucario hybrid which isn't technically true cause genetically I'm 100% human but my Aura is mostly Lucario. As a friend of mine put it, I'm human with a Lucario flavor packet.

Uh, actually, that doesn't really work cause super hearing is one of the few powers I don't have so instead, like, send me an ask or something. I think I should be transparent about the state of where I'm at with my personal projects that I've been sharing on this blog so far.

First off my computer situation is still unchanged, mostly because of scheduling issues being a constant blockade. It can still safely function enough to type in my notes docs or on tumblr, but the big thing is that it can't run games. This is kind of an issue when my most used tag is for a game I play on PC.

Which leads to the big point: I haven't exactly been in an Overwatch mood lately, both because I can't actually play it and because the recent news about the state of its dev team is some of the most disheartening in this game's extremely tumultuous history. It's hard to be excited about a game you can't play, and it's extremely hard to be excited about a game where you're not even sure if there's enough people still employed working on it to keep it going forward. Somehow I still don't outright detest the game or anything close to that, but it's not been too frequent in my thoughts lately.

Obviously, this hurts my enthusiasm to work more on the AU based directly on the game itself, but also doesn't help inspire me to work as much on War Bots, my original team shooter project based heavily on Overwatch. I realize that between the two the former is more popular (fanbase of like 6 vs a fanbase of like 2), but still. My personal interest in these is at a low, more so unfortunately for Role Requeue than War Bots. This is somewhat normal for me, I cycle between interests pretty consistently, with my last Overwatch/War Bots kick lasting a bit long all things considered without much going to my other personal projects.

The first is Renegades, a teen superhero team story that I hope to turn into a webcomic series one day. There's really not anything to it that I can say as a super unique pitch, I just wanna make my own superhero story because I think they're neat.

Slightly more zesty is Darkworld Showdown, a platform fighter idea with a "spooky/monster/creature" theme inspired by Darkstalkers and Skullgirls. This one has been on brain hiatus for longer since the friend who sort of became the "second in command" on the project has been radio silent for almost a year, but I've been back in touch with them recently so I'm hoping to get back into it more and give another pass on the roster and mechanics to hopefully refine it into something both more realistic to make and more interesting than just another indie platform fighter. I have some character designs floating around on Art Fight already but most of the cast needs an update badly, it's been a while for almost all of them and even some of the public stuff is rough from how old it is.

I may be posting more about these if there's any interest, but I mostly just wanted to explain where my head's been at lately, especially if you mostly expect Overwatch stuff from me. Not gonna try and beat myself up for it or anything, but wanted to mention it anyways. I think at least in my little circle that the Overwatch burnout is apparent so this might not be as big of a shocker as I'm fearing, but uh... yeah not sure how to end this one.

He has various verses, some things may change depending on what verse things are in. Details in his design are important and have stories behind them. In his main verses, he has extra strengthened abilities and a little extra chaotic surprise, sometimes. He has a lot of anger issues and is really shit at dealing with other emotions, often turning them into anger, too, because he doesn't know how else to handle things. He likes to think of himself as a villain, but really he's more like an anti-hero. And he's got a whole revenge case he's trying to deal out. He's got some emotional issues that he refuses to talk about, and others he will just spill because he likes to talk about himself. And he's got trust issues.

What they’ve been up to recently:

Well, this varies for people and verses. Things won't be following the same paths for everyone he interacts with. In in his main f.c5 verse, he somehow got himself in a position where he's gotta help protect the Seeds, because of the relationship he ended up in with Jacob. Everything in the B.L verses kinda got put on hold, but these days its after his Arena fell. A vampire verse, in the f.c5 land, has been distressing him. Bloody City (original) verse is getting more developments lately (yeehaw). Depends on what version you wanna deal with, really.

Where to find them:

In general modern times, usually Chicago. In the borderlands, usually Pandora. In F.C3, on Rook Islands, hanging with the pirates. In F.C5, Hope County, usually in Jacob's region. Frontier, the pirate is in Montreal in the company of Mr. Grant and Mr. Pond.

Plans? What are plans? We'll have to see what unfolds. Anything could happen.

Enemies to awkward found family member, enemies/rivals, slow burns of any kind of relationship (because its almost always a slow burn with him), helping him learn to cook maybe? 11. What book gets you daydreaming about Hetalia?

I will be real with you, I haven't picked up a real physical book since before I got back into Hetalia. I really need to dig into my complete collection of Poe stories, but I think that would really do it for me. I'm a hoe for Poe (sorry. SORRY.)

The last book I actually read was Caitlin Doughty's memoir Smoke Gets In Your Eyes: And Other Lessons From The Crematory. That was back in March, though. Same week I bought my Poe and Bram stoker collections.

I have a Princess Diana shrine in my bedroom. It was a joke because of a hyperfixation I had on her specifically and my friends and I were like "hey what if we made a Diana shrine" because I made a Princess Diana furby for my storyboarding class,,,, so now I have a really fucked up Princess Diana shrine that is so. so so so bad. I'm staring at it right now as I type this. I don't know what to do with the shrine. I can't just????? Get rid of it? But also keeping it is. AGH

Hetalia Asks

Hey guys, only fair I keep everyone updated on my situation. Oklahoma had a massive storm last Saturday with 90-100mph winds, so we got to experience a typhoon equivalent here in our land-locked state. Which- I mean we get tornadoes all the time, but tornados are isolated, and this was basically if a tornado the size of a city decided to track its way across our state.

Most of my city, and many other cities in the path of the storm, lost power, and we have been without electricity since Saturday. Of course, Oklahoma is an incredibly impoverished state, so many of us have lost all of our food, (and had to waste money on fast food because no one could cook anything) many places ran out of gasoline, and with 90° weather and no AC, we've all been stuck cooking in our own homes. :)))

The good news is, power has been coming back in chunks, and I finally have electricity as of 3 hours ago. My mom also had power restored Tuesday morning, so I'd been able to stay with her. The bad news is, this has put a delay on my art commission progress.

(Additionally- on top of the natural disaster, I have a new roommate moving in mid-July, and had to disassemble my PC and relocate it in preparation, and lost power before I could sit down and put things back together, so my PC is uh- in pieces on my bedroom floor rn.)

Obviously I also have an IRL job on top of all this, but it also lost power, and the power won't be back until Saturday. 🫠 So I'm missing a weeks paycheck because of this storm, and couldn't even use the time off to work on art because we've been living in the dark. So I'm super sorry.

Good news is!! As I said!! My power just came back on, but I have a lot of things I need to do before even starting to put my PC back together. My fridge is full of rotted food, my cats have been fed, but their litterboxes have been put on hold, and I've got to deal with those responsibilities first. I also volunteered to work at a different location tomorrow to try and salvage this paycheck, but I don't think Chipotle plans to compensate any of us for a loss of work due to this natural disaster. 😮‍💨

Basically, it could be another week before I'll be able to touch art again, and I realized I needed to give everyone an update on my situation.

(I took videos of the storm and I might post some highlights on here! It was so fucking cool to witness in person!! I was really lucky that my apartment was in a safe secure place. I barely made it home before the storm moved in tho that was scary. 🙈)

1. Are you named after anyone? My middle name was loosely inspired by an actress, but not "officially" as it were. No family legacy names or what have you.

2. When was the last time you cried? Man, I'm like always tearing up at the littlest things. I'm such a sap, lmao. I got teary eyed after seeing @schoute's finished artwork of Goro and Valerie yesterday, and on Saturday I got teary eyed watching Rachel Maksy's reveal of her remake of the "Just Breathe" dress from Ever After.

But like full-sob, distressed cry? I had an anxiety attack at the end of March/beginning of April, I think. It was like a month or so ago.

3. Do you have kids? No kiddos for me, thank you.

4. Do you use sarcasm a lot? I don't know if I'd say "a lot." Sometimes, for sure. I've grown less sarcastic the older I've gotten, I think.

5. What sports do you play/have you played? I did track and volleyball as a wee lass. And I did CrossFit as an adult, which is not exactly a sport, but also still has some of that kind sports-team vibes, I guess. (Loved the exercises, hated the social aspect of it.)

6. What’s the first thing you notice about other people? If they're making me uncomfortable, lmao. It's the social anxiety, man, idk.

Super theoretical math stuff? Not so much. But like algebra, geometry, trig, low-level calculus? Those were fun.

15. Dream job? I have no fucking clue, lmao. This is something I've really been grappling with the past couple of years, honestly. I've been kind of realizing that "just something to pay the bills" is becoming increasingly demoralizing for a ton of reasons, but I don't want to monetize things I'm really passionate about either, because I know that will burn me out on them. When was the last time you cried? Oh, probably last night? I'm really sensitive and I can literally cry at anything, tbh.

Do you have kids? Nope! And I don't really want any? Or at least if I did, I'd want to adopt later in my life when I'm more stable. Do you use sarcasm a lot? I genuinely don't actually know. A cradling feeling startled you and as you opened your eyes you could feel something really odd about your surroundings. You could feel a tight rope attaching your body to a harsh surface by your abdomen, making it unable to move or run away. The hot sun hit your face with fierce and could only furrow your brows and squeez your eyes shut, softly whining little asks about where you were.

"Why, good morning, lad!", a blond man dressed in clothes proper from a British history book looked at you with a smile, "Welcome to The Revenge! I'm the Gentleman Pirate and you're now our dear prisoner. We all hope you enjoy your instance here."

And with the blink of an eye, you ended up became adopted by a couple of gay pirates that were curious about your manners and clothes. Phew, what a life, uh?

▪︎ At first it's difficult for you to adapt to the new era. Stede and Ed only notice that you act a bit odd around everyone but associate it with your lack of interaction with people or some kind of social anxiety.

But the truth is that you have to be careful if you don't want to end up mention something you shouldn't by accident (you once comment that you wished to have your camera with you when watching a sunset with Stede and you almost faint when they asked what you meant by it)

▪︎In the end, Stede gets used to your "unusual speech" and plays along, thinking that it might be because you're young. However, it's better to not try to explain him what poggers or lol means.

▪︎Ed, on the other hand, is entertained by hearing you speak and say your usual, weird expressions. He always breaks into laughter when you call someone a hippie or when you tell him something like "yasss queen slay!" when he shows the new outfit Stede chose for him.

▪︎Ed is highly probable to be calling anyone on the crew bestie. Izzy hates it with all of his soul.

▪︎Of course they spoil you rotten with snacks, clothes, jewelry... If you enjoy reading Stede buys you every book he finds. About books, one of Stede's favourite activities to do with you is to read together in his room, ocasionally commenting something from any book that has surprised either of you. You could be together, reading the same book or reading separately while deep in a comfortable silence. Either way, the love and warm comfort can be felt in the atmosphere.

▪︎Ed will teach you how fight! Though he never lets you try to fight against some real enemy since he is afraid you'll get hurt. However, you can try the art of fuckery with him and mess with your enemies!

▪︎Needless to say that the work of cleaning the deck has /casually/ never reached you

▪︎When you dock to some island or village, they love to wander with you, showing you everything around

▪︎You three end up at some food stand enjoying some cold drinks and a snack of your choice

▪︎About food. If you feel nostalgic because your favourite food hasn't been invented yet, you can try to describe it to your fathers captains and you can be sure they'll try as hard as they can to replicate it. Who knows, maybe you can teach them new recipes! [You'll know whose fault was when archeologists happen to find a hamburger and date it more than 100 years before it should]

He doesn't accept your incorporation at first, thinking you are too young to be a pirate and that you would only be a burden. In fact, he is only worried about you. He thinks you're too young to enter the bloody world of piracy and violence.

However, it doesn't take much until you make your way into his heart and win his love. He is the one that insists on you learning swordfighting and how to defend yourself more or less. He may be grumpy, but he won't ever yell at you and he's always for you if you need someone to cry on and ask for advice.

If Ed and Stede even fight and you feel lost he's there to comfort you, assuring you he would speak to Ed about it [as much as he hates their relationship].

Talon!Dick's hair is pretty soft once he's back with the batfam cause of more proper care!

Back with the court, he didn't have time to really do much other than keep himself clean, so he didn't have like, hair conditioner or anything like that other than some shampoo to wash his hair and all the other necessary stuff like soap/body wash etc, but we'll leave it at that since we're gonna do hair talk and some fluff! >:Dc

If you wanna touch his hair, depending on which time period you're thinking of, I'll list down a little progression so we get all the reactions! Hope this is fun to read!

Reactions to headpats:

Dick still with the Court of Owls - While here, the court is very sparse with physical affection, if there's any at all. At most, they only tell him "Good work," with a hand on his shoulder if he did something they deem as a job well done. Attempting to pat his head during this time, usually makes him tense and pull back a bit, mostly because a lot of time, physical contact had been unpleasant. When someone does pat his head, he's, at first, confused, and maybe a little cautious since he's unsure if there's any other intent behind the physical contact. He's like "...??" After confirmation that he's not going to get hurt, he'll eventually let himself relax into the touch and tries to enjoy it for as long as he can. He thinks it's nice and would love to get more even if he's pretty sure requesting this is out of the question. The court would not tolerate insignificant requests.

Back with Batfam - After months of recovery, Dick went from being very tense to physical contact to being able to completely fall asleep to someone petting his head or gently running their fingers through his hair. He'll probably ask for them himself too! Either through body language like scooting closer to someone with his head lowered, or being vocal about what he wants. He very much enjoys hugs too once he has adjusted back to life with the batfam and he's more than happy to return the hug!

Bonus! Imagine Cass playing with Dick's hair and leaving him with cute hair clips. Maybe It even become a little tradition where they trade hair clips every time they hang out! Or each of the batfam sometimes has leftover feathers from Dick hugging them with his wings.

IN SHORT: I think after some readjusting back into a more normal life, he's happy to receive and give hugs and head pats! For the Court era, he's a little reluctant to both, but he'll warm up!

Sorry for rambling haha, I like brain storming possible scenarios for this AU (*￣U￣)╭ Here's little treat for you. I'll leave this ambiguous to who's petting his head. Can be you, a member of the batfam, or Wally 👀 maybe even a memory or a dream Dick is having of his parents. Let your imagination decide! Mediocre writing drabble ahead o(-( BUT I did have fun tho hehe!

Upon seeing a shift in their hand, Talon finds himself balling his fists, feathers bristling, and head lowering automatically for what usually came next, only for him to feel fingers carding through his hair gently. He blinks, once, twice, then gathers enough courage to look up and face the owner of the hand currently playing with his messy hair. This... is new...? He's pretty sure he's getting his head petted right now, and he's not sure what to do other than stand awkwardly and try not to fidget. The court almost never did this, and when they do, it usually came with some kind of degrading words. Should he do or say something? Maybe the latter isn't a good idea. Then there's a gentle voice coaxing him to relax, so with some reluctance and silent debate, Talon allows his shoulders to relax along with his body, wings shifting to a more comfortable position. The feathers smooth themselves as he's no longer on high alert for potential incoming attacks that... were never there in the first place. More reassuring words lull him under a blanket of calm, and he couldn't help but lean his head into the touch a little more with a sigh he had been unknowingly holding. If this is happening, might as well enjoy it while he can. It's... nice. Much more than anything he's ever felt. Talon's eyes drift shut to the slow strokes of the hand on his head, and he finds that he's not as tense as he was earlier. For once, he wasn't a weapon or an assassin armed to the teeth with knives and daggers while on a mission. Maybe he's home.

okay i'm FINALLY getting to the last of my requests, starting with the tadaaki x etsuji requested by @yansim-fan314 who i'm tagging bc i lost the original ask when i responded to talk about oneshots vs slowburn fics lol anyway HERE

Tadaaki remembered vividly the rage and confusion he’d felt the first time he saw Etsuji enter his gym. He knew how much the two of them had once scorned him and he hadn’t yet fully forgiven Etsuji for looking down on the martial arts club. Yet, for some reason, when he saw Etsuji’s eyes search for him, saw how he lit up once their gazes connected, Tadaaki’s heart raced.    

Etsuji navigated his way through the maze of equipment and held up a hand in greeting. “Yo.” 

Tadaaki held up hs fist in response. Etsuji closed his hand and bumped his knuckles to Tadaaki’s. “What’s up, man?”

    “I think I wanna focus on my core today. What are you gonna be doing?”

“Legs. Sakkun says my kick isn’t as strong as my punch.”

“That so? I know you gave me shit for skipping leg day initially, but what if you just focused on training your arms? Then you could just put your all into your punches.”

“Yeah, and then I’d be predictable as hell. If my opponents know to expect a hook, they won’t know what to do when I hit them with a good roundhouse!”

Etsuji rolled his eyes. “I swear, you’re almost too thorough.”

“I seem to recall you benefiting a lot from my thorough training and advice over the past few weeks.”

“Fine, whatever, let’s just get started.” The two of them smiled as they each went about their routines. Though they didn’t always use the same machine, they were more than happy to spot each other when it became necessary. During this hour of the day, there was no time or place for all the complicated feelings that Tadaaki had. 

However, that time had to come to an end at some point, and soon enough both of them had finished their planned workouts for the day. As the two of them went to the locker room to change, Etsuji groaned. “I really pushed myself today… I have no idea how I’m going to get through my sets tomorrow.”

“Sounds like you need a good soak,” Tadaaki advised. “Or a rest day. When was the last time you took one?”

Etsuji flinched. “I’m taking them okay? Look, I don’t even need my compression braces anymore. I’m fine!”

Tadaaki rolled his eyes. “Sure.” 

“But that soak sounds nice… Oh, yeah! Doesn’t this gym’s membership give you a discount at the bathhouse near here?”

“Yeah, but I usually just go home so I can put some bath salts in…”

“Bath salts? What, you some kinda chick? Come on, let’s try this place out!”

Tadaaki’s whole body tensed. “R-Right now?”

“Yeah, you got something else going on?”

“Uh… I guess not…”

“Then come on!”

Hesitantly, Tadaaki agreed. 

On their way to the bathhouse, Etsuji rambled on about sports news and his workout plans while Tadaaki listened. Maybe he was just tired from the workout, but something about this whole thing made his head spin. The idea of going to a bathhouse with Etsuji didn’t feel wrong, but it didn’t feel like it had felt whenever he went with his family or members of the martial arts club. Maybe he just wasn’t too keen on exposing himself to someone he’d hated until recently? Yeah, that had to be it. It was petty and childish, but it made sense. 

   “Watch out!”

Tadaaki felt a sudden jerk as Etsuji grabbed his wrist and pulled him from the street just as a car rushed past with its horn blazing. Tadaaki stared after it, not fully registering what had just happened. “Dude, are you insane?” Etsuji nearly shouted, releasing his grip on Tadaaki’s wrist. “How could you just wander into the road like that? You need to pay attention and not zone out when you’re this close to traffic!” 

Tadaaki looked down at his wrist. His skin burned and tingled where Etsuji had touched it. It sent shivers up his arm to his back. Probably just because Etsuji had grabbed it so hard. 

“Ugh, and my magazine fell out of my bag. Now it’s all dirty, and I was gonna look at it tonight…” Tadaaki looked at the magazine and saw a smiling woman dressed only in a bikini. Something settled deep in the pit of his stomach and clogged his throat. He knew Etsuji carried gravure magazines around, he’d even gotten used to it - why did it disgust him so much again?

“That’s… Chigusa, right?”

“Oh, you remember? Yeah!”

“She’s coming to our school next week, I think…”

“Really? Someone as famous as her?! Wow…”

Tadaaki balled his hand into a fist, focusing on the pain of his fingernails digging into his palm to stop his face from screwing up. “You must be really excited. It’s the chance of a lifetime.”

“Huh? For what?”

“You know, to get with her…”

Etsuji watched Tadaaki for a moment before breaking out into a big grin. “Ha! What?! Me and her? No way, dude, she’s like, way out of my league… and it would be so awkward, yanno?”

Tadaaki unclenched his fist. “What? You’re not gonna go after her?”

“Duh, of course not! She’s not someone I like like that. Maybe a while ago, yeah, but I don’t even know her…”

Tadaaki’s heart beat so hard he felt it would burst from his chest. Surely it was because that car had almost hit him. Or maybe his blood ran so hot just from the sight of a scantily clad woman. That had to be it. Because if it wasn’t, then…

“I-I just remembered, I have to study tonight! Sakkun said he’d boot me from the club if I don’t get my grades up, so…”

“Wait, you’re leaving?”

“Bye!” Tadaaki dashed off, leaving behind a very confused Etsuji. That night, he got the best cardio workout of his life. He was already exhausted, and he likely wouldn’t be able to even get out of bed tomorrow, but he ran and ran until he got to his home. He ignored his mother’s greeting and his father’s chiding and raced up to his room, nearly slamming the door behind him. His heart was still pounding and his lungs burned. As he desperately sucked air into his throat, feeling all the while like he was swallowing daggers, his legs finally buckled beneath him as he fell to the floor. 

It was the relief that made him realize it. No, he’d known for a while now - it was the relief that made him stop denying it. He’d been so relieved that Etsuji wasn’t interested in pursuing his favorite gravure model, relieved that he wouldn’t have to endure an endless amount of jealousy even worse than what he’d felt just looking at her image on the cover of the magazine. It wasn’t the exercise or the danger that made his heart work so hard, it was Etsuji. Tadaaki grasped at his chest, trying to relieve the pain. He cursed and swore, but it didn’t make the feelings or the images go away.

He wanted Etsuji all to himself. More than any goal, more than any woman, Tadaaki just wanted to be close to Etsuji. He thought of his eyes, imagined his rippling muscles, how he pulled his lips back when he really pushed his limits and how sweat ran down his face, and he knew that his life was going to be nothing but difficult from here on out.
