WOW this has been ROUGH in the Life Events category of things, but. slowly crawling out of that. hopefully

this was the opening scene for a something I started writing after watching the Manben inverview with Nishi Keiko and thinking back to all the classic shoujo manga I stayed up reading back in the day, like damn that's so true Urasawa Naoki

it's partially a love letter to all the greats of the genre that I read, and also to the late night teleseryses that captivated me over the years lmao. it'd be nice to find the time to tackle it properly as a comic, but I'm having fun working on it recreationally :)

the first character seen is lawrence 'law' valenciano (late 30s), the one with the glasses is cris volante (mid-later 20s). law works at a karinderya, cris is an extremely broke university student.

i LOVE watching driver cams before and after a race. i feel like such a little fly on the wall. it’s amazing. you start to notice things with drivers too. tom and oscar always fist bump before a race, kimi and bono do a little clasping of hands, isack seems to often close his eyes to get in the headspace before racing, after a race alex always takes off the headrest but lando just slides out. it’s so FUN.

Something something every time Charlie isn’t fighting to be the center of attention, he is always looking around to others to gauge their reactions and silently observing them all something something he is searching for connection, to fit in and be loved but he doesn’t know how to ask for love so instead he gains their attention by acting out in ways he knows they’ll notice and tries to pretend their attention and love are the same thing

#Charlie knows how to push people’s buttons just right to make them pay attention to him because he’s always observing them first; like he’s #not as reckless as we all think he is; he’s fairly smart and also #like Charlie seems so emotionally intelligent in the way he can gauge most peoples reactions from observing them and I think that’s why he #liked keating because keating didn’t act the way he expected and so it was amusing and enthralling to see someone he couldn’t clock #keating would do weird things and Charlie would watch in amusement and he would try to push Keatings buttons in the ways that would make #other teachers upset but they all just slid off Keatings back without him getting upset so Charlie had to try harder but keating seemed to #praise him so Charlie actually started getting what he was craving and so he tried to do something big for keating only to be confused when #keating didn’t like what he did; but then Keating still gave that unconditional support even tho Charlie didn’t get the right action and I #think that’s at the root of their relationship like you can’t have the keating and Charlie dynamic without Charlie being smart #charlie dalton #dps #dead poets society #dps fandom #dps symposium #dead poets fandom #like it’s so interesting to watch him in scenes not about him cause it feels like he is such a more dynamic and complex character when you #do cause we all say he doesn’t know how to be quiet but so often he is silently in the background watch and observing like the walking #scene is a good example and idk I just feel like Charlie is silent and observing more than we think he is we just don’t realize cause he is #so loud in his other moments we take those as him #and ignore him otherwise which feels like exactly what he wants because he wants to connect with people but he wants it to be on his terms #because he spent so long manipulating people’s perception of him that to be vulnerable or not in control makes him scared and he can have #this front he puts on criticized and made fun of because it’s not the real him but if the real him was ever rejected I don’t know if he #could handle it and I think he knows that; idk I just think we need to give Charlie more credit than we are giving him cause hes so complex

'Saying things in a funny way' is an op skillset for real though.

Latest example 'when you're late coming home and I don't know why I get worried about you and think perhaps there has been a car accident and this is why I send check-in texts' = distressing concept, explains the texting as something other than controlling behavior but still sounds neurotic and may increase any aversion felt toward it

'When I don't know why you aren't home yet I start to think maybe you got eaten by a car' = funny, sympathetic, likely to make such texts less burdensome to receive.

induced to me by my contemporary art exam AND a rewatch of rebels after years that. got me into sabezra unexpectedly AND i updated krita and there were many new brushes i wanted to try

i can't find themmmmm I've been looking for 2 days but all i found were uncredited reposts

anyway they look amazing

i really wanted to try greyscaling but I'm not sure it looks good. idk. + while i was making it i was listening to i love you by fontaines d.c. (GREAT SONG FROM A GREAT UNDERRATED BAND) and. the grey fit into that mood much better

also two versions without the sketch lines. where ezra looks happier even if they're uglier

#i didn't expect to like them as a ship ngl. but there are some moments that recall kanera (AND I LOVE THEM) especially if you've read #a new dawn. and IDK COOL!! probably i didn't ship them from the start because. in s1-s2 they're just kids and everytime i reach s3 i keep #brainrotting on thrawn <3 and kallus <3 and zeb <3 idk i kinda forgot about them and all the scenes they were in LMAO #ALSO. i love you is truly a wonderful song wtf?? it's not something I'd associate to sabezra BUT probably after having listened to it for a #month. and having drawn this in the meantime. i found some connections. the fact that the songs alternated between that melodic part #that talks about love to the other verses about (very generally) society. just felt like how their relationship would go. rapidly switching #between the fast paced fights for the rebellion to the calm of the preparation they require that can allow them for some tenderness. ALSO #ezra is so much “if there was sunshine it was never on me / so close the rain; so pronounced is the pain”#and sabine is pretty much “you only open the window; never open up the door” sometimes. especially before her darksaber arc #btw i know this song is about ireland and their relationship with theid country BUT it just prompted me to their grey figures #and colorful background. also. there's something about klimt making some of the most tender representations of love ever imo BUT keep #choosing to represent rather dark iconographies whenever he's asked to do something (I'm thinking about the medicine panels for the uni)#like. there is a similar contrast in there as well. also i like that. ursa had a portrait of herself in her home that referenced klimt #like. it's ursa in her prime; in a literal golden age. i can imagine sabine associating a good moment - one of her bests - to such an #expressive decoration. and maybe stripping colors away when that moment is gone and all that remains is the memory and feeling #OKAY WHY DID I TALK SO MUCH i must've put more thought on this that i previously thought. crazy #it started as a fun experiment to try krita's oil brushes. *in david byrne's voice* how did i get here?#star wars #sw #star wars rebels #star wars fanart #star wars rebels fanart #ezra bridger #sabine wren #ezrabine #sabezra #sabine wren fanart #ezra bridger fanart #sw fanart #g posting
