Ooh! Exciting!

They mainly just look like big green tabbies, but the size of a tiger (with round eye pupils, since slit pupils only improve depth perception for shorties).

But when you look in its eyes (with round pupils) as it stares you down from behind the brush, it's clear there's more than just a beast's intelligence. Animalistic, certainly.

It can't 'talk', though its chittering may so very closely mimic the cries for help of its last victim. Though, it can understand the tone of voice, can sense fear or anger within it. It doesn't 'think', save for applying years of hunting experience, and millennia of instincts evolved by the experience of their ancestors. It doesn't 'feel', save for the thrill of the hunt, the tension just before the pounce. That it might play with its food for a while, if not too hungry just yet.

It licks blood from its whiskers. It's wide eyes dart to the knife in your hand. It knows exactly what that is, even if it had never seen one before. It knows what guns are, too, that's why all the firearms have been disappearing over the last few nights.

Humans have been the apex predator for hundreds of thousands of years, thought ourselves unassailable. But there is nothing evolution cannot overcome, if given only time and something to mold.
