how did I get here?

You know, there’s a reason I call Tintin and Snowy my favourite.

I met them when I was 12 years old, in a dusty corner of my school library. An instant connection developed between us and since then we had never been apart. 

On his birthday, 9th January, my thoughts turned nostalgic about the young reporter who brightened and inspired my teenage years. Well, back then I wrote a journal entry dedicated to him and his glorious adventures. While creating this blog, the first content that came to my mind was this journal entry.

So, why not?

Here's to all those amazing memories I’ve made so far with this reporter and many more to come.

Back in middle school days, I remember searching for a book series to follow diligently. There were many of them. Mostly fantasies and fictions and dark romance. Some were menacing and awkward. As a whole, not an ideal read for me, I thought. I didn’t (and still don’t) want my head to be occupied with weird thoughts which yield nothing. But I knew my search would end one day. And it did.. 

One day, rummaging through the junior library at school, I noticed some illustrated books, which resembled the comics’s style but quite refined. With the librarian's permission I opened the locked up cabinet which seemed to have jammed due to rust.

That was my pirate treasure, a bounty which I was lucky enough to stumble upon.

The first book which I read from the series was ‘The Castafiore’s Emerald’. The only adventure completely based in the Marlinspike Hall, gives a cozy kind of feeling. Not only did I appreciate Tintin's wits, but I was also amused by Captain Haddock’s funny curses and alliteration which were insulting enough to trash anyone. I really felt that I was where I belonged. I decided to stick to it and started to gather more information and facts about the young protagonist and his brilliant creator, Hergé . The internet, of course, helped me to a great extent as all 24 volumes of the adventures were available there. Also, that was my first year learning french. When Madame came to know about my new hobby, she encouraged me to carry it further and suggested that I'd get the gist of both, the language and the stories, if I read them in french. So, I did that, and how! By the end of middle school, I had read all 24 volumes, some in french as well.

Since then, I’ve read the whole series many times. I've lost count of the number of times I've ...

cheered when Tintin fought Bobby Smiles in Chicago in the book ‘Tintin in America’, 

gasped at the revelation of Rastapopoulos as an antagonist in ‘The Blue Lotus’ (who continued on to become the prime villain in the series), 

chuckled to see (or hear) Bianca Castafiore’s god forsaken singing and Tintin’s reaction in ‘King Ottokar’s Sceptre’, 

been amused at the introduction of Captain Haddock into the series in ‘The Crab with Golden Claws’, 

got my funny bone tickled as Captain Haddock grouched on Professor Cuthbert Calculus’ “hard of hearing” trouble, 

got thrilled with the hero’s treasure hunt in ‘The Secret of the Unicorn’

got terrified at the vengeance of Inca Rascar Capac and Tintin, Snowy and Captain Haddock’s quest to release the professor from the captivity of the Incas in ‘The Seven Crystal Balls’ & ‘The Prisoners of the Sun’ (this story is hands down my most fav :)

greeted the Emir and his son Abdullah (devil’s incarnation) in ‘Land of Black Gold’, 

followed the friends to the moon and back (literally!) 

visited Borduria and Syldavia, 

cried my heart out (when I first read it, I was so touched) in the joyous reunion of Tintin and Tchang, 

rolled with laughter on seeing the magazine cover of Paris Flash in ‘The Castafiore Emerald’, 

encountered all sorts of people (even aliens! in ‘flight 714’) 

and went to an extent of a military coup for General Alcazar. 

Oh, and not to forget the cliffhanger of the unfinished ‘Tintin and the Alph-art’ (left for fans to complete it with our imagination, I like to believe!)

 

Phew! The list is much longer than this & the memories are limitless!!

“Alstroemeria” ♡ Cardinal Primo x gn!reader platonic drabble (fluff)

Dedicated to @thecuriouss. I suck at fluff. I'm sorry.

There was something peaceful about the Ministry's garden. Maybe it was the colorful flowers. Maybe it was the fact that not many people spend much time there, each Sibling of Sin dealing with their own work and responsibilities.

Maybe it was the fact that it was a good place to hide from all your worries. You could hide behind a tree, observe the colorful flowers and just wait until you felt like you could function again.

Or... you could be caught by a certain long haired blonde Cardinal in his early thirties. The oldest son of Papa Nihil Emeritus, Primo, seemed to share your fondness for the garden, though he never exactly said why. He just seemed to always gravitate here in his limited free time, usually with his two younger brothers, who would run around playfully or enjoy calm walks with him and ask him all about the flowers. Surprisingly, he seemed to always know the answer.

It took some time, since he wasn't too fond of people in general, but you became rather close friends with him. And since Primo Emeritus didn't have many friends, he seemed to really cherish the ones he did have.

And somehow, he seemed to know when one of said friends needed him. Which meant that, of course, he found you, sitting under a tree and watching the colorful flowers.

"That's alstroemeria." Primo announced instead of greeting you like anyone else would. He seemed to like making you jump in surprise, as there was always a sparkle of amusement in his eyes whenever he saw you acting like him randomly popping up was giving you a heart attack.

"Alstro... what?"

"Alstroemeria. The Lily of the Incas. Represents compassion, patience, appreciation, humor, understanding and loyalty." he explained, his gaze focused on the flowers. Primo rarely looked at you directly. He seemed to associate it with all the nonsense he had to deal with as future Papa.

You were both silent for a while, you still sitting on the ground, your back against the tree and him... well, he stood like he was taught to. Perfectly. His back completely straight, his hands behind his back as he looked in front of him. He almost looked like a statue.

Then again, considering his upbringing, being born only to ensure the bloodline wouldn't be broken... and yet, he was a good person. A complicated, yet good person. After all, he took raising his brothers onto himself, just so they could have a childhood.

"It's a... flower of friendship." He added after a while, hunching slightly. A sign that he was relaxed. And a habit that will probably cause him back issues when he gets older.

"Friendship?"

He hummed, clicking his tongue before slowly sitting down on the ground as well, despite how he'd usually scold you for doing that. You were tempted to point it out and maybe if you were in a better mood, you'd actually do it. But not right now. Right now you just wanted to enjoy his presence.

You rested your head against his shoulder, closing your eyes. He didn't really do anything about it, but you knew by now that he was comfortable with you, since he didn't even flinch. If he was uncomfortable, he'd simply get up and leave.

"Yes. I have personally requested to have them planted here." He admitted, his voice much quieter than usual, but not quite a whisper. It was a rare moment of peace in his life.

"Why?" You asked quietly, closing your eyes for a bit as you gently reached to hold his hand. He let you do that, intertwining your fingers together and humming softly.

"Because I've noticed how... fond... you are of this spot. It's always the same tree, facing the same direction. I figured... you'd enjoy those flowers here." He admitted, looking away, using his free hand to play with his hair. One of the small ways he allowed himself relax around people he trusted. There was something almost cute in it.

"You... had the Siblings plant those flowers here for me?"

"Don't think too much about it." He blurted out quickly, looking away with a slight blush. You giggled at his reaction. For someone so good with people, Primo was terrible when it came to dealing with those he actually held close. Unless, of course, it was about his brothers.

You smiled softly, relaxing against him. It was now that you noticed just how much all those negative emotions you felt earlier have worn you out. And his presence was soothing. Comforting. So soothing and comforting, in fact, that you ended up napping against him.

And Primo, despite all the work he still had to do, let you do that. Because he knew he wasn't good at showing affection. So instead, he would go along with what you did. And if you decided to use his shoulder as your pillow, then Primo Emeritus would not be moved until your nap was over.

And while you slept, he could look at the alstroemerias. The flowers he grew so fond of recently, because they reminded him of you. One of his closest friends.

This really was a good place to plant the flowers of friendship.

Hey is anyone on my blog excited for Wycaro? I feel like since my end of BCS for tumblr is just a lot of Lalo content, we don’t really talk about how like, great the show is in general - same for Succession. I know this is a fic blog so we can’t get too off topic but I think we should acknowledge we’re all TV needs at the end of the day 😭 like I love breaking bad and BCS and succession and I’m superrrr excited for Wycaro to see what Vince and Rhea are up to, as well as see what the Roy siblings are gonna do post show (the apprentice, A real pain, house of spoils). I think also talking about the original source can get me motivated and you guys more excited to read stuff idk idk 🧍🏻‍♂️

But anyways, I’m getting Wycaro is gonna have to do something with time travel. Vince Gilligan said he wanted to return to his X-file roots and he seemed to hammer in that emotional beat with “if you had a Time Machine” towards the end of better call Saul and when you think of it, BCS being a prequel and technical sequel makes it a show that goes back and forth through time and I feel like Vince was dabbling in the emotional concepts of time travel, but there’s also a lot from the casting and the Quechua aspects of the rumored story that make me think that it’s going to be time travel.

Like, they’re casting and have casted Quechua people for filming and the recent casting call that just closed applications online has a recurring guest star asking for someone to be Quechua or look the part at least and if you know anything about Inca Mythology and Quechua culture, they have a very cosmological way of looking through time - but then there’s the fucking sword in the title logo so I guess it can also be pirates 😭 idk I hope you guys are excited to see Wycaro too

But!! What if we expand a little bit on the bow and arrow thing we talked about before?

You never wanted to admit defeat or bend to anyone, your will and pride wouldn’t allow it. You were next in line to become an elite assassin within Liyue. Your travels around Teyvat had left trail of bodies within busy cities. But now, your target is out in the middle of open land. Which is not suitable for your stealth and lethal way of a quick bypass. So now you have to learn how to aim from afar and be undetected.

And that’s how you ended up in your current predicament.

Near the Chenyu Vale village, a series of practice targets are set up across a river bend. You had done all the research necessary to learn the basics of wielding a bow and arrow and set out to practice on your own. However, you’ve been unsuccessful. Not once had you hit a bullseye and you had managed to get some burns on your forearm. You let out a grunt in frustration which caused local fauna to flee and a chuckle to emerge from behind you.

“Heh, seems like you could use a hand.”

You grip the bow tightly as you know that voice too well. On more than one occasion, Childe has tried to win you over with good food, beautiful jewelry, and whatever else he knew you liked. You had originally taken a liking to him, but once you realized he’s part of the Fatui and a Harbinger to boot, you began to loathe him. Unfortunately for you, that made him pursue you harder.

You’re about to run over to the other side of the river to fetch the arrows when you breathe out, “nope. I’ve got it. Aren’t there some innocent children you need indoctrinate into working for you?”

Childe hisses at the implication before tutting at you. “Hey I’m just trying to help!” He raises his hands in defense as he watches you trek to the other side of the river to fetch your practice arrows. His arms cross over his body as he watches you in disbelief. For once he’s trying not to bother you, he genuinely wants to help you out. Upon your slugged return, he pulls out his own arrow, lines up a bow, and almost effortlessly hits the bullseye. And then he walks to the side and does it again, hitting two bullseyes Inca row. You stand there wide eyed and slack jawed as he cocks out his hip.

You pout and grunt at him. Damn him for being so good. You sign and lower your shoulders. “Ugh, fine! Can you please help me?” Childe snickers and nods, motioning for you to get in aiming position. The Harbinger looks over your technique and almost wants to puke. Who taught you?

“Okay first of all, your position and technique are terrible. Did some court jester teach you?” You turn around and elbow him in the gut. Childe retches and keels over in pain. “Okay, okay! Sorry princess.”

You place your bow down and open up your satchel. Out come all the books you’ve read up and Childe almost wants to throw them into the river. “I read these books,” you say sternly, “and they taught me everything I need to know. Well,” you start to relent, “I guess not…”.

He takes pity on you and closes your book. “Alright c’mon, get up and put your bow in your hands.” You put the books down and pick up your arrow. You take a deep breath and pull it up, all tension in your body going straight to your back and shoulders, your fingers straining on the string. Childe approaches you carefully, “whoa whoa. Hold on, let me help you.”

He gets up behind you, and gently places one hand on the underside of your hand holding the bow to steady it. His other on your shoulder to straighten it. His touch send jolts of electricity through you; had he always smelled that good? Why is his breath fluttering by your ear? And why are you suddenly nervous. Childe lowers his head to whisper in your ear to calm you down. “Okay,” he says slowly, “you need to have more strength in your base. You won’t be able to shoot anything without any strength,” he pauses to run his hand up your arm to your bicep, “here.”

You tense your arm to do as he says, but also at how close he is. The pads of his fingers on your shoulder lower down to your mid back as he keeps calmly instructing you. “Now that your shoulder is less tense, keep your core strong.” His voice and eyes trail toward your arm holding the arrow. Swiftly, he repositions himself slightly as he places a hand on your waist and the other lifting your elbow. His voice is like hypnotic honey, “you need to be strong yet relaxed. Yes, that’s it.”

Your heart is running at a mile a minute and you’re worried your composure will be lost any minute. Childe’s touch is fiery and icy all at once. You want more yet you don’t. With your eyes focused on the target ahead of you. You release a breath and widen your stance at his insistence. His body is practically pressed against you, fixing your angles with the lightest of touches that leaves you craving more. The cherry on top is when he finally tells you to, “let go.”

You release the arrow and watch it fly across the water, straight into the bullseye. You let out a small scream in excitement as it lands directly where you wanted it. Any tension you held is dropped as you do a little giddy happy dance, smile as wide as the ocean. A blush comes to the Harbinger’s face as he sees your reaction. If he wasn’t smitten before, this sealed the deal. You turn around in his fleeting hold, barely registering his hands on your hips as you look up at him happily. “That was,” you breathlessly say, “exhilarating! I’ve never felt like that before!”

“Heh, I bet you haven’t.” His hold tightens and for some reason you don’t back away. His eyes bore into yours and the space between you two lessens.

You swallow a lump in your throat and feel small. “I, I wouldn’t mind if you helped me feel that way,” you brush your nose with his, “again.”

Childe breathes against your lips, his own brushing against yours. “I don’t think we’re talking about archery anymore, sweetheart.” He leans in and just barely kisses you before he pulls away.

“We still have more targets to hit. Reload.”

Inca-Spider Moche x Miguel Headcanons:

Do The Rawr - Moche's Verbal Stims

Everytime Miguel opens his mouth to unsheath his fangs -

Moche will quietly go 'rawr.'

She can't help it. She's not doing it on purpose. It's a verbal stim that's triggered when he does it.

It's like a kid who can't help but say 'pew' while shooting a nerf gun. She feels he should be 'rawr'ing, so instinct she rawrs

It's not even in the flirty MJ-tiger way. It's in the 4 year-old playing dinosaur kinda way.

The first time she did it - Miguel's first reaction was to stop. And ask

"Was that Mayday?"

Even Peter seemed surprised as he shook his head - MayDay wasn't even with them on this mission. And quietly beside Jess, Moche stood - a bit mortified.

Miguel thinks he's hearing things.

Until a week later they're training.

He's her mentor, and while sparring with Moche in the heat of battle - Miguel pulls back his mask, and slides down his fangs.

'Raaahh.'

She can't stop herself. Miguel watches in deep confusion as Moche curls her hands in front of herself with the sound, her fingers curled into claws.

The motion itself shows her own fangs - and for a second he has NO idea if she's mocking him or... trying to cutely intimidate him???

But its so distracting he has to stop. He's like

Moche wants to disappear. She turns to face the wall and stops responding. She's like 'maybe if I do this he'll just go away 😭😭'

Because she rawr'd at her boss.

Now Miguel is more confused. Why did she rawr at him and WHY IS SHE FACING THE WALL

He's like 'Moche.'

'I'm sorry, sir - That was so unprofessional. I don't know what came over me. That was bizarre, I promise I'm not doing it on purpose-'

While Miguel watches her like -

"It's Fine."

Because he believes her. If it were anyone else, Like Hobie or Pavi or Peter, maybe they would somehow find something like this hilarious. But because it's her-

"It's fine. Just focus and don't do it again."

She sure could try.

His concentration was broken, and so the two of them found themselves back where they started - at the beginning of the sparring match - ready to go again.

Moche always tried her best, but drowning in embarrassment with no help from Aia, it was easy for her to slip up, and for Miguel to best her.

He has her pinned - the match all but over. And Miguel isn't thinking about it web her pulls back his mask too reveal his fangs once more.

And Moche clamps her hands over her mouth.

She has to say it. She wants to do back.

It's a tic, and her tongue feels heavy and antsy and her body tense. She HAS to say it. She's trying so hard not to, be she has to.

Miguel sighs. He still has her pinned. But still he says

"You need to do the rawr?"

Moche nodded.

Miguel pinches his nose bridge, nodding in defeat.

'Rawhhr'

This time, for resisting the verbal stim, she throws in a playful, unconvincing hiss.

"If you're gonna keep doing it at least try and keep it down. It takes me out of my zone."

"Okay, I'm done. That's it. Raarwwrr. Okay, sorry. That was the last one. Sorry."

To this day she still does it. No matter where they are. At this point, Miguel loves it. Moche carrot even notices she does it anymore.

Miguel enjoys when she's comfortable enough to stim around him. When she can just be herself and not have to think about or mask.

If he shows his fangs for any reason, she'll do it - and continue on with the sentence as usual. It's only when they're alone that he'll mimic her doing it, and now even their daughter Rosalia does it too.

When out on missions - she still does it, and basically everyone knows

Jess knows she does it and asked Moche is it's okay for her to join in (Moche says yes). Peter knows, and Mayday too. Mayday also does it now.

Hobie knows about it too. And he fights laughter every time. He'd never let Miguel live it down, but he isn't really into poking fun at Moche's stims.

He understands, and especially for Hobie - Moche's stims are very sensitive to him.

She finds his jacket very stimulating visually and texturally, and she'd really like to touch it, though she doesn't feel comfortable asking. Hobie has offered her to, but she usually says 'no' because she's too embarrassed.

The only one of her stims he'll imitate is the stims Moche has for him. These are usually very stereotypical British sayings or British words. She'll see him and say something like "Ello, love! Ello!- Hi, Hobie."

If Hobie is nearby talking to someone and something he says is particularly rhyme-y or earcatchy, it's VERY VERY likely for it to become Moche's verbal stim.

When Gwen first heard it - she DIES laughing. Gwen being autistic too, she gets it, and she has her own verbal stim for the same thing

(When Miguel shows his fangs or yawns, Gwen stims 'I hate Mondays' or 'I love Lasagna' as a Garfield joke)

Moche still tries to keep it down. She says it so soft hoping he won't hear it

and he hears EVERY TIME.

It's SO distracting. He has to tell her to look away. But for the rares one slips out - or always gets him to stop.

'Rawwwrhh'

'Moche!'

'Sorry. Sorry. Had to let that one out.'

'*Sighs*'

'......I Love Lasagna'

'GWEN.'

Zatanna, Wonder Woman and Barry Allen go undercover in this issue of DC Retroactive: JLA- The 70's #1 (2011) and Diana is absolutely terrible at it:

For those who don't know DC Retroactive are untold stories set in past continuities mostly by writers from those eras.

This issue was written by Carey Bates with art by Andy Smith.

(Side note: While Diana being 'bad' at going undercover is just a two page gag, it makes more sense for me that Diana, former 'Goddess of Truth' and wielder of the Lasso of True wouldn't be comfortable with secret identities. I never liked the idea of Diana needing a secret identity. )

The plot of this issue mainly revolves around Adam Strange, who is accidentally transported to Earth Prime following a fight with Kanjar Ro so Barry, Diana, Zatanna and Ollie travel to Earth Prime to rescue him while Hawkman and Green Lantern (Hal Jordan) take on the newly empowered Kanjar Ro.

Earth-Prime is basically "our world" where the JLA are all fictional characters and the writers and creators exist on that earth. It's also the world where Superboy Prime originally came from. Since Adam had his mind zapped at a mental institute, the only solution is to find DC editor and Adam Strange super fan Julius Schwartz who can jog Adam's memory.

I'm not really a fan of creators writing themselves or their collegues into the story. It feels very self congratulatory. Especially since WW's lasso could have solved the whole thing. I much prefer how Marvel did it, like an Easter Egg, where Stan and Jack would sometimes appear as themselves in issues of Fantastic Four. But I guess you can look at this issue as Carey's tribute to Schwartz. This issue also came with a reprint of Justice League of America #123 where Carey Bates wrote himself (or rather his Earth Prime counterpart) as the villain of the story.

Adam Strange himself is a character that I have mixed feelings about. He's very much a product of his time but the ordinary guy with a space suit, jetpack and helmet really appeals to the young boy in me who loved the Rocketeer. I don't think anyone has ever quite figured out how to make him relevant today. Tom King tried in his mini but it was the usual trope of 'lets reveal this innocent Silver Age character is actually a horrible person' variety of reinvention.

Anyway, enough rambling, since this is a Zatanna blog, here is a few moments with her that I like:

Knowing how much of a nerd Barry is he probably folded inside when she called him boss.

Also while this was most likely an excuse to bring in Julius Schwartz, Zatanna not tampering with minds is more in character for her during this period especially since the arc with her mom also had a subplot of her being mad that her father played with her mind. Another point deducted from Identity Crisis.

Blink and you miss it panels where the artist is clearly showing off their ability to draw human body in perspective:

Overall, it's an old school issue. Very much a throwback. Still it's noteable that the writer of this issue didn't do the almost obligatory 'Zee gets gagged or taken out early so other characters can shine' plot. Every one has a role and everyone contributes their fair share to help defeat the villain.

I drew a design for Inca! I love how she looks and I loved drawing all her beautiful jewelry. Here’s her lore!

Inca was a large SandWing female who was known for her violent behavior and nature towards any dragon. Scars littered along her body from those she fought and killed, and various sharp spines covered her. She had no second thoughts on killing others and would do whatever she pleased, and did whatever it took to get what she wanted. Even if that meant shedding some blood from others.

She was stolen as an egg from Pyrrhia and brought to Drogonia by a SandWing named Manticore. Her egg was brought into a hidden cave north of Drogonia in a tunnel, where she was placed alongside 4 other eggs. She was then enchanted to be an Animus by a NightWing named Blackout, who helped raise her once she hatched. And made her quite powerful with the enchantments he placed on her. She learned to use her Animus Magic from him, and was skilled enough for her age as she grew and learned more.

Inca was taught about the other continents and royalty through another NightWing, Malice, she was elderly and quite rude. She had always been obsessed with being in charge of those around her, and with the idea of becoming Queen, Inca was determined to get to Pyrrhia and do whatever it took to become Queen. She quickly made up a plan to escape, and went through with it at the age of 10, she had stolen items from the tunnel she was hidden away in and made it to Pyrrhia, where she slowly yet violently begun her plan. She gathered followers who helped her in her plans on becoming Queen, 5 years later, she did it. She used her Animus Magic to take the throne from Queen Rhinoceros, killing her husband and placing both her and her daughter Princess Mesa in an enchanted cell. They wouldn’t be set free until her reign was over.

Inca forcibly ruled the SandWing Kingdom for roughly 7 years and had no dragonets during that time. She brutally murdered any dragon who dared to disobey her or refused to think of her as Queen. Her reign ended when she was killed by another Animus, and her soul was placed inside of a bottle never to be released until someone had summoned her themselves. Once released however, she was bound to the dragon who released her, and could no longer use her magic for evil and is unable to harm anyone unless instructed too. Her enchanted necklace held all her anger and rage inside of it, creating “Inca’s Wrath”. Which was placed overtop the bottle once it was hidden away with all her treasures. Since she was killed and hidden away, no one has seen her in years, and Queen Rhinoceros and her daughter were set free, and reclaimed the throne once again.

It was rumored there was a second enchanted piece of jewelry from Inca herself, called “Sting of the Dragonbite Viper”. A metal SandWing barb that was insanely sharp and longer than a normal SandWing barb. It allowed the SandWing who wore it to have venom as powerful as a Dragonbite Viper’s, and the extended sharp tip made a great stabbing tool, and made injecting poison easier. The piece of jewelry could only be worn by SandWings, (or SandWing hybrids with a tail barb), and gently wrapped around the end of the tail like armor. It was said to be fireproof aswell, even to the hottest of flames, and unable to be broken. It is unclear if this is true or not, since no one knows about treasures and where they are currently kept.

Those who choose to summon Inca are able to “free” her soul. She will loose her Animus Magic all together if freed, she will be reborn again into a normal SandWing, but will still have her memories intact. Her enchanted necklace will stay how it was before, unless it is worn by someone else. (AHEM, Urchin)

Inca Fun Facts that make her a little less violent, yes she’s evil but idc rn i’ll let her be happy.

-Inca really enjoyed pottery and its design, and had many beautiful pieces of pottery around the palace which she painted herself. And they all had some sort of desert flower inside of it. She took care of the flowers herself.

-She loved wearing jewelry, her favorite being golden types of jewelry. And even owned a long wine-red cape, which she absolutely adored and always had it kept nice and beautiful just like her jewelry.

-She is a lesbian, and had a secret relationship with a female RainWing named Elegance. Inca always gave her the most beautiful flower she could find within her palace as gifts, and Elegance returned the favors by bringing her various fruits from the RainWing Kingdom. (SEE SHE CAN BE LOVING)

-She wrote many scrolls during her time as Queen, it is unknown where they are now. But she used them as little journals or sketched out animals see sees within the territory.

-Due to her love for pottery, she often made small sculptures or either herself or Elegance, which she gifted to her aswell, and occasionally painted them to look like Elegance.

-Inca had a love for music, but she rarely played anything, she did often hum to herself while walking around the palace.

-While being trapped inside the bottle, she always thought about Elegance and how upset she must be with her or how worried she is.

-Her favorite animal is a snake, specifically Anaconda’s, since they reminded her of Elegance and how her scale pattern looked. And how powerful they looked in her eyes. She’s always wanted one as a pet.

-She absolutely hates NightWings because of Blackout, but liked Malice, since she taught her, and favored DreamWalker, since she was raised with him.

-Because of the alliance of Queen Rhinoceros and Queen Supernova, she got the chance to meet her and was very confused. She also met a tribrid for the first time and nearly shit herself since she didn’t expect how large they’d be. (It was Black Widow and her canon height is 57ft) But she also wanted nothing to do with her, since she was Queen, and not Rhinoceros.

-Inca has snuck Elegance into the palace several times. She’d probably kill you if you even ask about it but it’s more than she’d ever admit, not that she would.

(Look Ik she’s a villain and all but I needed to give her SOME happy things about her, and so that I can ignore her lore. Even tho I wrote it, which is. Violent.)

I NEED ADVICE!

This is my third pass at this character and this is where I’m at so far!

In case you didn’t see my previous posts, I’m writing a comic based in post-apocalyptic Peru. It’ll have major elements of the Inca empire mixed with modern elements but also more cyberpunk elements.

I know it’s a lot but I’m convinced it’ll create something unique and really interesting.

The man below will be the leader of the last surviving peoples and father of one of the main characters!

Keep in mind that their society isn’t struggling, they’re thriving. The nuclear explosion happened years prior and they’ve already rebuilt while taking inspiration from the Incan empire to run things.

So this man is their Sapa Inca, or their King. He’s meant to represent traditionalism but also the control over machinery. As he believes cybernetics and hardware are merely tools for people to use.

Just thought I should give a bit more of a backstory!

With this pass of the design I added far more details and cybernetics to him but I’m really more sure if it’s too much?

Someone said his face looked too busy and I do see that but I think I’ve been staring at it for too long.

Also, all of the textiles and patterns I’ve drawn are really just placeholders as I can only do so small with my markers and the comic will 100% be done digitally, so I’ll have far better control and fully plan on either finding or creating specific brushes for all the patterning.

Most circles in his design will actually be glowing stones that’ll shift in hue depending on the tone of the scene he’s in.

There’s some parts I don’t like about his design like his boot and I’m not fully sold on the design of the cybernetics as I’ve seen some more sleeker designs that I might use instead. But I’m really not sure.

If anyone has any advice or ideas or even critiques them I’d love to hear them!

Being culturally accurate is also extremely important to me, so if anyone who is more versed in that department has any advice or criticisms then please let me know.

Hi, I’m an ARC reader for your latest book, and I noticed that Mant is a very stereotypical antisemitic caricature.

Thank you for reaching out to us with this concern. I hope it is okay to share this publicly; I don’t want this critique to go unsaid and want to ensure that we can address this as thoroughly as possible moving forward. 

After considering this for a while, discussing with Fell, and doing some research, I want to take ownership of how elements of Mant’s character design reflect the antisemitic villain stereotype. On revisiting the text, it’s clear to me that descriptions of his appearance, particularly having a large/long nose and thick eyebrows, play into this stereotype. Our characters were designed in part to mirror some of the people from whom we took loose inspiration (including the Inca Empire and ancient Iran, to give a couple of examples); as a big-nosed and big-eyebrowed Persian myself, I was short-sighted and failed to think of the broader context and implications of how I described these characters’ ethnic features. I apologize for my failure to consider this. This is something we will amend immediately prior to distributing any ARCs.

Further, we plan to continue doing research and reassessing the text; revisiting Mant’s behavior (I'll admit, I was previously ignorant to talking with one’s hands being a Jewish stereotype); and honestly likely further leaning into the Christian elements of the demons’/vampires’ religion (original sin/rapture stuff etc.) to avoid coding them as Jewish. We’ll also reach out to Jewish readers who may be able to help us guide the depictions of these characters; it is crucial that we not imply any antisemitic stereotypes with regard to Mant, especially because his actions in the book could easily read as Elders of Zion level antisemitic conspiracy theory through that lens, and we want to avoid putting out something so harmful at all costs!

Again, I want to say I am truly sorry for putting out an ARC with harmful stereotypes. Getting this feedback is all part of the process, but this really is something we should've caught earlier, and I regret my failure to do so.

Just finished rewatching Avatar by James Cameron ( just to refresh the old memory box and let me tell you ,nine year old me definitely did not have the mental capacity to appreciate said movie) and I'm just over here buzzing with a new au for the hermits/empires crew and if you can't already tell it's 100% inspired by said movie.

The Hermits and emperors would be like the Na'vi while the watchers/listeners would take the place of the "sky people"/humans.

Grian, Jimmy, and Pearl would be the three with Avatars known as Shells who are sent down as spies for the watchers and listeners in order to gain information on how to take what they want from this new strange plant/server. In this au the watchers and listeners don't refer to what they are but to what they are allowed to know about combat by the void. The Void is the compound in which they work for whose main mission is to find planets with powerful energy sources so that they can take it and sell it to the highest bidder.

Jugavians are what the hermits and emperors species will be called and they are a bird like race that can't fly without the help of elytra ,another native species to Hermpier. Jugavians are tall beings with large eyes ,winglike ears, tails that fan out with feathers at the end with a pair of small wings on it right before it fans out, and a large blue gem in the center of their chests (lapis). They are generally kind and welcoming people but ever since the takers appeared have become suspicious and aggressive. Jugavians are all one species with the type of birds they are based off of as different types of subspecies.

Shells are the lab grown Void versions of Jugavians made specifically for their hosts in order to gain the trust of the jugavians so that they can figure out their weaknesses and take what they want. They appear to be exactly like jugavians but are missing the pair of wings that can be found on the tails of real jugavians.

Down below is a list of all the hermits and emperors. I've already decided what birds some of them would be based off of as well as the roles Grian Jimmy and Pearl each have working for the void. I'm open to suggestions for anyone without an assigned bird already. I'll also be drawing up an example for what Jugavians look like.

Grian: Watcher: Head researcher and the one who picked both Jimmy and Pearl to be part of project Shell. He has some combat experience due to his watcher status. Is twin brothers with Jimmy. His shell is a, you guessed it, Red Macaw variant.

Jimmy: Listener: one of the few Negotiators working within The Void. As a listener he isn't really allowed to know combat other than the bare minimum. Twin brother of Grian and is actually the younger of the two. His shell is a Canary variant.

Pearl: Watcher: Pearl is a soldier and the cousin of both Grian and Jimmy. As a soldier she has the most combat experience of the three and is meant to protect both Grian and Jimmy while they do their jobs. Her shell is a Snow owl variant.

But basically in last episode season 2 when they’re picking someone to “die” it’s also the boat episode you know? And. I mean everything aside that’s an incredible episode, everyone is in a funny hat, gratuitous Gerri feet shots, Greg toe nail stuff. But I just like. I don’t know they effectively use water to let you know that shits going down. It’s just like. They put so much work into recurring themes and motifs just to set a vibe like. Agh! Another cool thing about that episode is that Marcia’s absence is mentioned early on and kind of brushed off. But later when logan tells Kendall it’s him he mentions talking to Marcia about the Incas and they have this conversation about child sacrifice and logan kind of takes on this belief of like “it’s evil it’s brutal so so bad” and Marcia says you know “what could you kill that you loved so much it would make the sun come back” or something . And. It’s like. It kind of is very revealing for logan because he chose not to invite Marcia because he knew she would tell him it had to be one of his kids. And he doesn’t want to! And it’s interesting because you can’t really tell if he “doesn’t want to” because he loves them or if he just kind of has a general moral affiliation to the idea that it’s “savage” to throw them under the bus. And if he does love them it’s like he just doesn’t love them enough to not actually do it. Like he can love them as much as he wants but he’s still ushered them into the slaughterhouse like. Because logan is smart he knows when he can and can’t get away with doing exactly what he wants, or maybe he really does have a choice and he just doesn’t value Kendall as much as he values anyone else. Because we know at this point Kendall is pretty much useless like he’s been neutered on account of little boy murder so maybe logan just throws him off I don’t know. Nrpi 😂

Legion of Super-Heroes #3 (Bendis)

Warning, Spoilers Ahead…

The issue opens with Dawnstar giving an infodump on herself:

Her name is Dawnstar Gr’ell. This is the first time in the history of Dawnstar that she has had a last name. Gr’ell is a reference to Mike Grell, the artist who co-created Dawnstar.

Her home planet is Starhaven which has a “deep connection to the earth’s 13th century”.  In the original continuity, Starhaven was an “Amerind colony world”. Starhaven had connections to Earth’s indigenous people and their cultures.  A quick google search shows that the Aztec, Mayan, and Inca civilizations were occurring during this time. Is Bendis hinting Starhaven was founded by one of these civilizations. Is this going to be another “my father was a wolf” moment where he drops a random bit of information and doesn’t follow up on it?  I am not an expert on the various histories and cultures of the First People, if anyone has any other ideas on what the “deep connection to the 13th century” could be, I would love to hear them.

Dawny’s name is derived from “the appearance on earth of the planet Venus, the ‘morning star.”.

Dawnstar takes a moment to gush over Jon Kent even though Dawnstar has never been the type to gush over anything.

Dawnstar’s appearance has been updated. The top half of her face is covered in blue paint/tattoo with a white star on her forehead. Her costume has been updated as well. I’m not sure how I feel about the new costume but I do like it more than her original bathing suit costome.

We switch to Rimbor where General Crav Nah has discovered that Jo is a member of the Legion. He’s not happy about it.

Jon has brought Damian to the future. Damian passes out after meeting Dawnstar.

Back to Rimbor. Cosmic Boy and his team (Ultra Boy, Colossal Boy, Shadow Lass, Mon-El, White Witch) have arrived.

Cosmic Boy is briefing the team on expected behaviors while on Rimbor. Shadow Lass and Cosmic Boy are in a relationship. Which is new. And apparently is news to the rest of the Legion. A Shady-Cos pairing could be interesting but Cos & Night Girl are one of my OTPs so I’d rather have that.

Colossal Boy hasn’t decided if he will keep the code name or adapt another.

Crav Nah arrives and he wants his Trident.

We receive more info on Rimbor. One half of Rimbor has been in constant holy war with the other. Crav intends to unite the world by force (under his command, of course). Jo also wants unity for Rimbor but minus the war and domination.

Cosmic Boy introduces himself and offers in assistance in settling the Rimborian disputes. Crav finds the offer insulting and hurls Rokk across the building. Cue a brawl between Crav and the Legion that Mon-El ends in one punch. Cause, you know, Daxamite. Daxamites are basically Kryptonians with a different weakness (lead instead of kryptonite).

Jo informs Mon-El that per Rimborian law Lar is now the ruler of Rimbor since he defeated Crav.

Mon-El does not want the role.

Gim mentions Rokk is the elected leader so that answers my question from last issue.

Lightning Lad’s team arrives at Dini City in Planet Gotham. Dini is a clear reference to Paul Dini, one of the creators behind the Bataman: The Animated Series and the greater DC animated universe.

Garth’s team consists of Saturn Girl, Triplicated Girl, and Chameleon Boy.

The team is greeted by December Sevenbergen, the commissioner of Gotham.

Tortor arrives to free Mordru from police captivity: “If word in the galaxy gets out that I let you, a master daemon, rot in the bowels of a Gotham jail…”

Bendis has downgraded Mordru on a massive scale if the Science Police are able to contain him.

“Tortor” is revealed to be Saturn Girl’s attempt to enter Mordru’s mind. It doesn’t last long. Mordru is still stuck in a simple containment cell in police headquarters.

Dawnstar summons the team back to HQ before any further attempts to interrogate Mordru.

Crav’s official title is the “Warrior King of Rimbor”. Cosmic Boy’s team has brought Crav to Legion HQ.

Element Lad has the appearance of a blond, green-skinned Shaggy from Scooby Doo. He also has a purple and green striped costume. I don’t like it.

Jo’s costume has spontaneously turned green and red on his return from Rimbor.

Crav is brawling with the Legion. He’s apparently knocked out Jon, which would indicate Mon-El is more powerful than Jon. Makes sense as Mon appears to be older than Jon.

Damian is confused over what is happening.

Imra attempts to telepathically knock Crav out but only succeeds in knocking Brainiac 5 and Wildfire out. Crav is now the third villain to no-sell Imra’s powers. This is the second time Imra has taken out her teammates instead of the villain. It’s only been three issues. Not loving incompetent Imra.

Jon recovers and knocks Crav out. Mon-El states he knocked Crav out first, gets into a hissy with Jon and flies away. Finally, a Legionnaire who doesn’t fanboy over an inexperienced and under-accomplished Jon!

Triplicate Girl tells Jon that Mon-El is really sensitive “which is funny because he’s actually your…” What?! I’m not loving the “Bendis drops a tidbit of info and then ignores it” approach to story-telling.

Damian’s been in the future for five minutes and he already has criticisms: “You need a stronger penal system and clearer sense of the rule of law…”

Brainy has fixed Damian up with a bio-patch so he can breathe/exist in the 31st Century. Imra pitches a fit over Damian, erases his memory, and takes him back to the 31st Century. Jon rightfully calls the Legion out on the hypocrisy of bringing Jon to the future but having a fit over Damian.

Damian’s whole trip to the future was pointless, a waste of pages, and would have been better spent focusing on actual Legionnaires.

Chameleon Boy refers to Damian as “Baby Hitler” and Brainy states “That is a deeply unfair assessment of Damian Wayne…Therefore, we as a group, have dedicated our entire existence to rooting for his success.”

I’m assuming this is a reference to Morrison’s adult Damian storyline. More importantly, is Bendis serious? Why does he think Legion fans want the team to be dedicated Superboy/Robin fanboys?

That’s the purpose of the Legion’s existence? To make sure Damian remains a good boy? I’m starting to remember why I dropped this run at the third issue.

The issue ends with the Trident being stolen – again!

I heard that she was one of the first known HUmarls that wanted to be a part of the Hunter class, but Sonic Team denied when Sonic himself reported Rico was the missing Humarl that fans of Sonic really need. But thanks to Dark Falz's shenanigans, Sega love to have the nerves to make female characters dead. That's why equality is the thing we needed before the law.

Ashley : Right, which is necessarily not in order. So, here we are. This is where we need to calm our nerves down. I mean, Kimial's nerves down. Hopefully calmness will help her lower her Shattered Resonance. This might help her do some therapy. I heard that one secpter that has the power to control the four vibes. The Vibe Secpter.

"Long before the Ohkuboverse was created, outside of Real World AU, there was a powerful Sorcerer that offered Angel vibe to give him the powerful staff that control's one vibe and he call it the Vibe Secpter, it is a powerful weapon that has granted it's own wishes by uniting the four vibes into one great warrior. So with the Vibe of Light's aid, Vibe secpter became a great success as it is the most powerful to control anyone's powerful vibes that are the emotions of hearts; Burning Rage, Sorrowful Sadness, Joyful Glee, and Calmness. These vibes can bring such power that will ultimately unleash into a powerful warrior that is a princess. However, despite it's creation on it's failed attempt of destroying the old world, Shinra foiled demon vibe plans and gave Soul World it's very foundation with the Kusakabe Legacy, that was simply a family tree of his own. With them following on their path to destruction, Shattered Meisters will break us free from the will of Kusakabe, relcaim the Kasugatani name and her position! That is what we were ordered by the Phantom to look after the Shattered Meisters and we must protect them from ever bringing destruction on the planet. I wanted her smile to be protected and we are the only ones who can protect her smile.

Imagine a whole other continent on the other side of Prythian, not a human one, a Fae one. High fae and faeries that one could find in —let's say— what in real life would be Latin America, a whole continent of Fae with rich latin american cultural heritage. What would they look like? What would the continental name be? Are they fierce/ warm/ welcoming/ distrustful/ loyal? What would their abilities/ power look like? Would they depend on the region, like with the courts or would it be more free/subjective? I wonder...🤔

I will try to write a little headcanon here, but @moonlightazriel is writing an Azriel x Reader story about the Court of Shadows. So this is a whole new territory and she addresses most of those things, like new people, a new culture etc. The new people mentioned are not only fae, but also witches etc. and have new/different powers. It is a very interesting and new take and a very unique Azriel story as I have never seen anything like that. You should totally check it out if you are interested in that sort of things.

I have to admit my knowledge about the cultural heritage of Latin America is very limited I only know about the Maya, the Aztecs and the Inca (but also not too much)

I don't want to say anything wrong, that maybe could offend anyone so I will keep my answer very short

so I could imagine these grand temples, different letters, different laws and many wonderful pieces of art and culture

family matters a lot for these fae and so do common festivities and celebrations

in terms of what they look like, I don't really know how detailed you meant that, but maybe they would resemble the Illyrians a lot, tanned skin and dark hair

also I could imagine them wearing a lot of golden accessory (I think that was a thing of the Aztecs, wasn't it?)

I think they would at first be a little reserved when being discovered, but soon very welcoming and open to the people arriving, like including the new people in their festivities and celebrations, letting them join in, teaching them something about their culture and heritage as well as their letters etc.

I think their power would be strength, knowledge, power and craftman ship like they build those amazing temples and are very innovative, but also are very skilled and talented fighters and warriors, and they have huge libraries filled with millions of books and scrolls and documents

and I think it would be more free, there would be no courts, there would only be one territory an that is ruled by one leader who has. afew in-commands
