hi you are like the coolest looking dude i think, and you totally dont have to answer this if you dont wanna but according to google its mostly illegal to start hormone therapy in missoury and i was wondering if you got it from out of state or what orb if you had any advice for starting it in an illegal country (again idk if this is like a weird question i dont mean to pry, have a great day)
It's not illegal for me (yet) since I'm an adult.
Trans Healthcare is completely banned for minors in Missouri. Medicare is no longer allowed to cover trans healthcare (including hormone therapy) for minors and adults. Even changing your gender marker requires "proof of gender reassignment".
I'm an adult so I can still get HRT. I went to an informed consent clinic near me to skip all the bullshit. I lucked out that it's also a low income health clinic and they have an on-site pharmacy. I just get my T from there for like $15 tops.

I work at a Canadian university as a science librarian. This week, I gave a short presentation to a packed room about my Blaze post. I really didn't want to talk about being a Tumblr ancient or about my dead husband and his dog in a place of capitalism. I did it because I wanted to start a conversation about changing my university's policy of not requiring ethics review (or IRB - institutional review board in the US) for research performed on social media data. Social media data is data created by us. I KNOW how many struggling people are so very vulnerable with their comments and tags on my Blaze post. I don't think commenting on or sharing my post means you are consenting to being part of a research study. Days later, people are still talking about my presentation so I guess it's worth essentially feeling naked in public. Thank you to @molosseraptor for providing helpful feedback on my slides. Tumblr ancients support each other.

I am really appreciating Sam's care and attention to detail and ethics in her use of charm magic. A lot of times stories kind of gloss over how fucked up that kind of thing is when the "good guys" do it. Now, it's an adventure story, there's going to be combat and shenanigans, I just feel like messing with someone's willpower and brain should be on par with the hack and slash mundane violence that also happens in those stories.
They made it clear that this particular magic wasn't imposing a new alien thought, merely amplifying something already present, as if to make it ok, and I really appreciate how Sam still recognizes the horror and lack of consent in that anyway. She lower's people's inhibitions, like a drug. Sure, maybe deep down (or not so deep down) there might be a desire or an impulse somewhere, the important part is the ability to act or not act on those impulses of your own free will.
Setting aside all of the normal amounts of random thoughts and desires someone might have and NEVER act on for a variety of incredibly good reasons. Have you ever stood next to the edge of a cliff or ledge and had your brain, just for a split second, suggest jumping? With 0 suicidal intent by the way, just a fucked up little "huh that would be wild," and then it's gone. Under the "rules" of Sam's magic, that still counts, it was already inside you after all, she didn't invent it.
And that's just neurotypical levels of brain fuckery. Speaking of suicide, that's also a "desire already within someone" she could amplify if you wanted to get real dark about it. Or imagine if she got ahold of someone with ocd or schizophrenia or kleptomania or something. Those ARE in your brain already. Somebody with ocd might "want" to spend the next 6 hours washing their hands until they crack and bleed, that doesn't mean it's a good thing. And if she has the power to strip away impulse control that is horrifying and I really respect her for knowing that.

this is going to sound strange but in one of your comics you mention informed consent clinics and that actually introduced the concept to me?? I fully didn't know they were a thing until I saw you mention it and I looked it up lol. I fully thought I was gonna have to go to therapy for who-knows-how-long to get diagnosed with something I know I already have. turns out there's a doctor who does them like 30 minutes away from me I haven't made an appointment yet but I guess i wanna say thanks for making me realize hrt isn't as difficult a goal for me anymore 👍
Of course! I found out from Erin in the Mornings Informed consent map! Check it out y’all! Some are outdated where I live (because Missouri is a hell state for trans healthcare) but I still found a place to go!

Vampire ethics, morality and immortality
A few minutes ago I was messing around on Google and came across this article:
I found it very interesting and well written, so I want to use it as food for thought.
The article discusses the need for vampires to feed on blood and how this act inevitably violates the victim's bodily autonomy. The article also discusses how some believe that vampires must seek informed consent from their victims while some believe that the inherent power dynamics in vampire-human relationships make true consent impossible.
Now, let's unpack this.
With informed consent, the power dynamic between the human and the vampire would become more balanced since, with informed consent, the human would be specifically told what they are getting themselves into and would have full freedom to accept or refuse. It all depends on the individual dynamic between the vampire and the human. Furthermore, this scenario can be very useful in explaining the concept of consent since the scenario in question uses vampirism as a metaphor for intimacy.
In this specific case we are talking about emotional dynamics between humans and vampires and therefore situations where vampirism is used as a metaphor for intimacy, but there are situations where the same moral standards cannot be applied since these are entirely fantasy situations that would never happen in real life. For example, in the Twilight saga we are shown that the Volturi lure tourists into their castle to feed on them. Now, leaving aside the fact that the Volturi are villains, this is a fantasy context that will never happen in real life, so the same moral standards cannot be applied. In this context, in fact, vampirism is not used to symbolize intimacy but is simply represented as a means of nourishment.
There are plenty of animals in nature that use deception to hunt, such as the anglerfish, which uses a bioluminescent lure to attract prey. Let me be clear, I'm not saying that vampires and animals are the same thing, but in some ways they are quite similar. Not identical, but similar.
Anyway, this is just my opinion. You are free to disagree with me.
See ya. ❤️

Clashing with "prevailing notions": Pop culture depictions and archival realities
Archivists on the Issues is a forum for archivists to discuss the issues we are facing today. Gender dysphoria is a diagnosis, whereas transgenderism is an ideology. The natural course of gender dysphoria is desistence by adulthood, conservatively, in 85% of the cases, unless it is affirmed.
Gender dysphoria carries with it the overwhelming probability of underlying mental health issues, adverse family dynamics, adverse childhood experiences, and autism spectrum disorder that usually predate the gender dysphoria itself.
The probability of both desistence and underlying mental health and other issues is why "watchful waiting," coupled with mental health evaluation and counselling for both patient and family, was once, and is increasingly again, recognised as the standard of care for minors with gender dysphoria.
Systematic literature reviews done in the United Kingdom, Sweden, Finland and Germany show that so-called "gender firming healthcare" is out of step with the evidence space for gender dysphoric youth. Transition affirmation is not proven to be safe or effective long-term. It does not reduce suicides. It does not repair mental health issues or trauma.
Minors cannot give truly informed consent. Children have developing and immature brains. Their minds change often. They are prone to risk-taking. They are vulnerable to peer-pressure and they don’t grasp long-term consequences.
Refusing to provide gender transition procedures, or so-called "gender affirming healthcare," is non-discriminatory and is appropriate, both professionally and scientifically. Withholding unproven interventions is non-discriminatory, and "gender affirming healthcare" has neither been shown to be safe nor effective nor more help than harm.
Physicians take an oath to do no harm and gender firming healthcare is documented to lead to harm. There are good health alternatives to "gender affirming healthcare" which address underlying issues, rather than dodging them.
Finally, there is always a more honest way to deal with gender confusion than the chemical sterilisation and surgical mutilation of healthy young bodies.
