Rico and Nina both eat their food very fast. Rico has actually slowed down on how fast he eats, because he doesn't need to worry so much about keeping his job and can breathe a bit between working. Nina... it's a trauma thing. Rico knows that but isn't sure how to help.

Liu will eat anything obviously edible that's given to him as part of his conditioning. Rico has engaged in 'extra-judicial punishment' [read: brutal asskickings] of anyone that tries to take advantage of that for their own amusement

Nurse Ann has a tendency to jumpscare people. Sometimes its an accident. Sometimes, depending on who it is, it's intentional.

Thistle begs for 'samples' a lot. She is hard to resist with her puppy eyes. She talks btw, don't remember if I ever mentioned that before.

On occasion an orange cat can be seen wandering the base. He is very friendly and very foolish and a thief of the funniest stuff. Rico once followed him when he left and found him heading in the direction of the Warren. He's still not sure what to do about that. it's probably nothing and the little bastard is so cute. There's no way a cat could be a spy anyway... right?

Puppeteer plays games with his strings a lot. And threatens to tie up people [like Liu] if they don't cooperate with him. His first meeting with Rico involved that, actually... I should write that someday.

Thunderstorms make Liu and Nina nostalgic. The other Horrors think they're nuts for getting extra cozy with Rico during them... but they don't complain because cuddles. Rico, on the other hand, might have stuff to say if he's in the middle of working.

Rico has permission to do basically anything because of his control of the Horrors. No matter how illegal or morally dubious. They might even let him experiment on Jeff if he wanted to. They've met btw.

Random fun fact about me, that I almost forgot myself (lol)

During my studies I was in a film class. Where I wrote scripts + drew storyboards for very short movies (for the class).

In one of them I even act as well (guess that's why I suppress that memory lol). It was just a non-speaking, nightmare version of a police officer kind of role. So that was fine. I get why there are actors who are shy and even have social anxiety. If you are all dressed up to play someone else, it works somehow 🤷‍♂️ (I am also an ex cosplayer that also always helped with ignoring anxiety for a while)

But the thing is that short film flopped in front of the audience (classmates and teachers). Because they didn't get it. It was an attempt of my team of doing horror, after the last films were comedy (they were perceived well).

Yet it still taught me something. From all the things that went wrong with the last one:

first of all my group of 4 people went down to 2 because one dropped out of uni and the other got sick for months. So it went down to me doing script, storyboard, partly audio recording and acting (we had a main actress tho) and the other guy did filming, directing, cutting, location scouting and editing. So I planned, he executed.

but the issue was that we both probably had different ideas about the story and visuals. the nightmare creature was supposed to only appear in dark shadow areas and move through shadow. But in the end the location was too bright (also there were other people present so we were restricted) and the guy didn't fix that in post production. Didn't make it darker when needed, nor were his shadow animations good. So nobody understood why the nightmare version of a police officer stopped chasing the girl but then reappeared at some other point to handcuff her

she did some illegal stuff in the dream btw. so it was intentionally a bit misleading, confusing at that she's chased by an officer. but should have become more clear till the end that the officer looks a bit creepy and only moves within shadows, lots of hectic scenes and one soft jumpscare at the end before she woke up save in her room

Point is, sometimes the intention of the creators and the interpretation or reading of the end product can be different and sometimes not even predictable. Because for me it was understandable. I thought people will get the plot. That we start in a nightmare, where the main gets chased and caught but then wakes up in her room at the end.

But they didn't get it. Main reasons might not even be just the miscommunication between me and the director / editor. But also because the audience might not have been familiar with horror, mental fuckery scenarios. That's what happens when the target audience does not fit for the material.

Because storytelling relies a lot of an audiences already existing experience and knowledge. That is basically their tool box with what they will approach and compare the movie plot with.

Pico jumpscare I got really into Pico's school way back when and never saw any fanart for his death screen. So I wanted to try my hand at it. Got through the lineart before I decided I didn't like it and was not skilled enough to salvage it so I gave up. Might redraw this in the future though!

So me and my sister were talking a few years ago, and I think one of us misspoke and said "Coffee shot" instead of "Coffee shop," so this AU was born.

It's a coffee shop called the Coffee Shot staffed by characters that love guns and have guns and shoot guns and I love them. The shop is frequented by characters from other franchises (in this case Danganronpa), and it's got the best coffee and the best theming you've ever seen >:)

I quit on this picture really quick tho. Made the sketch on Photoshop 2 years ago, transferred the sketch to FireAlpaca, then realized the sketch sucked and didn't bother trying again.

Let this be a lesson that not all of your pictures are going to go the way you want to. Your sketches are going to be messy, your lineart isn't going to match up, your colors are going to look funky, and your shading is going to want to make you rip out your hair sometimes.

I think what's important is to make sure that all that stuff doesn't discourage you.

If you give up all together, you'll never know what you'd've been able to produce if you hadn't.

If a picture isn't working for you, find out why. Then quit that picture, practice, and come back. You'll be able to compare yourself to your own art instead of other people's, which will give you a clearer sense of how far you've come.

death becomes her - forget tony award for best costume design the mastermind behind those quick changes needs a nobel prize or something. i'm sure on some dark corner of the internet people are complaining about them not picking a number that showcased both leads but also if you've got a song like for the gaze in your show how are you NOT going to perform it at the tony awards. come on

pirates! - there is something so uncanny about watching ramin karimloo be silly. this is a man who ought to be brooding at all times. i don't like seeing him play the washboard. it feels wrong

maybe happy ending - you know a musical is not fucking around when their tony awards performance is 50% a book scene. that's the type of "quiet confidence" all those life coaches on instagram bang on about. anyway. this was so charming. not necessarily something you think back on as a standout tony performance but it drew me in and it made me want to see the show in situ with the proper set so i guess it did its job from an advertising perspective. also i found myself getting distracted midway through by the fact that even the characters' suitcases reflect what model of helperbot they are. michael arden strikes again

floyd collins - i'm a #fakefloyder because i know i'd love this show but i only know how glory goes because i sight read it for a class at uni once. this has sold me entirely on exploring (lol) the rest of it. jeremy jordan was utterly captivating. so exciting to watch him perform in a genuinely well written show, something that happens far too rarely in his career. also i forgot taylor trensch was in this revival so that was a little bit of a jumpscare for me as a former deh girlie

operation mincemeat - this is one of those shows i've refused to see because everyone and their dog has hyped it up so much that i'm convinced it cannot possibly live up to said hype. i can't say this performance has done much to change my mind. i was briefly intrigued. the rap break dis-intrigued me. i then realised that throughout the entire performance i had been actively furrowing my eyebrows trying to make out every word of what was being said so i fear if i ever decide to bite the bullet and actually see this show in full i will be looking up whether they do any captioned performances

real women have curves - i love how hard this show is trying to save itself and i hope this performance works out for them because i thought it was so fun. they also get my honorary special tony award for "costume that made me actively jealous of an actress because of how much i want to wear that exact ensemble in my daily life"... if you see me repping the lil yellow crochet top with the floral jeans any time soon don't say a word

gypsy - look i'm slightly traumatised by this show because of how much of a hash i made of that piano/vocal score in every single rehearsal when i did it at uni. and then everyone in my cast got covid. but my god rose's turn is one of the songs of all time and this was a breathtakingly unhinged version of it. not an easy song to perform or critique in isolation because it's really so context-dependent on everything you've seen from mama rose prior but my god audra knocked it out of the park. i love when someone who is a certified capital s Singer isn't afraid to be absolutely vocally ugly in the name of character and performance. masterclass. no wonder leading actress in a musical was one of the hottest battles of the night

BONUS: hamilton 10th anniversary - fucking hell man what an absolute victory lap of a performance. sorry to say it but this show remains to this day SO fucking good. very few other shows where you can do such a slapdash, frantic medley specifically to showcase almost every principal actor and every single switch up not only hits but gets the audience CRAZY hyped at the same time. i think we're far enough removed from the days of miku binder thomas jefferson to say nah this musical really is just one of the greatest to ever do it. i will be relistening today.

Jezebel: Instead of Axel being the jealous whatever-he-was, he should have been Tom’s best friend. They leave ‘cause they think the guy’s killed him. And then get together because he disappears. Even if the cheating still happens, it takes away that the “bad guy gets the girl and the good guy’s the bad guy” taste.  That alone would have made it a little easier to watch and made it to where you could be happy they get away.

Jezebel: Because the way it’s handled almost feels like this whole movie victim-blamed Tom into insanity and thus turned him into the thing he tried to get them to see he wasn’t.  Also the whole “he was in an asylum” thing seemed so “we gotta explain why he’s got this split personality” so they threw it in, when they could have I dunno showed it in a two minute clip

Jezebel: But the gore was 😮‍💨😮‍💨😮‍💨 hard to watch but made it scary enough in that sense.  And there was a full on nekked woman running around.  It wasn’t horrible! But yeah. It’s up there with Friday the 13th on killers I side with

Wench: So, you know I have a fondness for this film.  But it's very much a "I know it's not good and watch anyway" kind of fondness, mixed with the tastes that leads people to watch, for example... revenge stories.  I recognize that Tom's the "bad guy" of the film, and I also recognize that some of the people he killed weren't people who deserved it.  But I also can't stop myself from rooting for him, and that --- the fact that he makes it to the end, for example --- is a large part of the fondness.  It's like Law Abiding Citizen, where the "bad guy" is nonetheless the one you root for.

Also Wench: But it also pisses me off because of a number of things (some of which you covered).  If the town as a whole --- his alleged friends, family, partners, etc --- had bothered to check in with him instead of villainizing him, the entire movie (or, at least, all but the first ten minutes) might not have happened.  He didn't leave out of the blue, and it's stupid that they act like he did.  He left because, in close proximity: a) the entire town turned against him for a mistake --- a costly mistake, sure, but nonetheless, an accident --- that they apparently ranked as on-par with the serial-killing miner who slaughtered a whole hospital and a college party of some kind, b) said miner tried to kill him, c) his friends left him behind for said miner to kill him, and then d) said miner got shot in front of him at extremely close quarters.  Buddy didn't leave for the fun of it; buddy was confined to a mental institution because he had some combination of a mental breakdown and/or a dissociative identity split.  To the point that he's still chugging meds in the movie and showing signs of both PTSD and a related panic disorder of some kind (at least to my amateur eyes)

Wench: Axel isn't a good guy, and he's not even a flawed hero.  He's an outright asshole.  He acts completely out of jealousy, marries a woman simply because he'd been envious of her and Tom's previous relationship but now Tom wasn't in his way, cheats on her despite them having a son together, and is controlling and possessive to a dangerous level at all times.

Wench: Actually, I just realized a thing.  If you take this story.  And put it in slightly different terms.  You get:

There's a group of friends.  This group includes Friend 1, who is in a relationship with Friend 2, and Friend 3.  Friend 3 is jealous of the relationship between Friend 1 and 2.

Through some combination of Friend 3's actions and an external entity, Friend 1 is removed from the equation.

Friend 3 uses this as an opportunity to fulfill the jealousy and start a relationship with Friend 2

Friend 1, meanwhile, gets incarcerated somewhere for a great many years, with better or worse periods of sanity/lucidity, before getting out and going back to hometown

Friend 2 and Friend 3's relationship has soured, since the jealousy didn't last past the initial pursuit success

Friend 1 slowly but surely takes revenge against various people in hometown

And that’s the story of The Count of Monte Cristo.

Jezebel: Ooh!  I gotta say, I was so lost at first.

Wench: The point is: The Count is the protagonist of the story, and, while he’s not a pure “good guy,” he’s definitely the best of the initial characters (e.g. pre-Chateau D’If).  So, yeah, the terms change a bit with the many murders of this film, as well as the fact that not everyone harmed by Tom was problematic, but, in terms solely of character archetypes, plotlines, etc… Tom is “the good guy” of the story.  And he got, as you put it, the short end of the stick for the entire plot.  He deserved to not have it happen again, instead of having the blame of the entire town actually portrayed as “deserved.”

Jezebel: Side-tracking a bit because: Another thing is it, would have been better to have the killer actually be Axel or one of the older men, or even the girl.  Or the other cop.  It being Tom just 😮‍💨😮‍💨 it but a bad taste in my mouth (I think I already said this lol but it did).  But also it being Tom would have had a poeticness about it under different circumstances, if he wasn’t already painted as h the villain.  Like, maybe axel thought it was him but the rest of the town was like “tommy?! Our boy!? Nooooo way”  Then it being him would have been like “TOMMY?! NO WAY!! MY BOY!”

Wench: Yeah, that’s fair… When I first watched the film, I knew they were going to make Tom the bad guy ahead of time, but I still wanted him to be right that it was Axel instead.  Anything else to add?
