MCU Timeline: The Incredible Hulk
This timeline is based on dates from the movie, its deleted scenes, calculations and logic, and not on Fury's Big Week (see the reason here). I must admit that compared to the other movies I've covered, this one gave me a bit of a headache.
~1946 - Thaddeus E. Ross is born.
December 18, 1969 - Robert Bruce Banner is born.
~1970 - Emil Blonsky is born.
~1973 - Ross returns from Vietnam at the age of 27.
March 5, 2004, 2:30 pm - experiment by Dr. Banner and Dr. Betty Ross turns Bruce into the Hulk. He kills two scientists, a military officer, and injures General Ross and his daughter.
In the newspaper we can see part of the date "06". The most logical option would be "2006", but this contradicts other dates, plus Marvel often blurs or skips years in their newspapers. The next option is - day. We can't see the month, but there is another paper connected to it that says "March 07". So I assume the original incident happened on March 5 (the day before this newspaper was published).
~March 6 or 7, 2004 at 2:50 pm - Bruce visits Betty in the hospital. General Ross confronts him. Bruce runs away. Ross begins his hunting campaign.
April 18, 2004 - Banner is spotted by a surveillance camera.
This is a US surveillance camera (date format), meaning it happened while Bruce was hiding inside the country (thus shortly after the original incident).
2004-2006 - Banner spotted in Idaho. Hulk kills a state trooper.
Here I would guess that the suicide attempt in Alaska from the deleted alternate opening scene took place in the winter of 2004-2005 or 2005-2006. And it wasn't the suicide attempt Banner was talking about in The Avengers, because he didn't put a bullet in his mouth in the deleted scene. Instead, he aimed at the ice so it would break and drag him out to the sea, I guess. So officially he's attempted suicide at least twice, and the bullet-in-mouth was before that ice-cold-one (it doesn't make sense to put so much effort into attempting suicide if you haven't tried all the easier options. And I'm sure he tried them).
February 7, 2006 - Banner attempted contact with Betty Ross.
May 27-28, 2006 - Bruce/Hulk spotted in Canada. Hulk (possibly) kills two Canadian hunters.
September 4, 2006 - Hulk out with house demolition. Probably still in Canada.
Not sure why "Notification: MOSSAD": this doesn’t look like Israel at all. But perhaps after this incident Bruce flew from Canada to Israel, and then from there went to Europe.
October 21, 2006 - "last seen fleeing".
This "No Sightings For 5 Months" contradicts October 21, 2006, because there were events a month before and after that date. And that's okay, because it doesn't actually mean that that line has to have any connection to that specific date. It just means that Ross lost him for 5 months during his hunt, and it's just part of a larger report, most of which we don't see.
November-December 2006 (snow) - Hulk smashes trucks in Europe (European license plate).
January 22, 2007 - Hulk out in Samara, Russia.
2007-2008 - Bruce in a Tibetan monastery.
March 2009 - Bruce is hired to work at the Antonio Carlos soda bottling plant in Rio (Rocinha favela), Brazil.
So his path most likely looked like this: US (Virginia > Idaho) > crossed US/Canada border > Alaska > back to Canada > Israel > Central Europe > Russia > China (Tibet) > Japan > South America (Paraguay > Brazil).
5 years after initial incident (2004-2009):
~August 2, 2009, 158 days after the last incident:
Banner cuts his finger at the plant and a bottle of soda containing his blood is shipped to the US.
Here on the sticker we see "19 APR". At this quality I can't really see what that date means, but I'm guessing it's a bottling or shipping date. So in the movie it must be April 19th, right? But if we use that date, other dates won't work (especially the last scenes in Canada). Instead, I'll use secondary evidence like the weather and college students later in the movie (doesn't look like summer, does it?) to determine an approximate date, and ignore "19 APR".
Note: This weather forecast matches August 2009 in Rio, but not April.
He tries the mysterious flower on his blood cells, but it's just another failed attempt to cure himself of the Hulk. He sends a sample of his blood to Dr. Samuel Sterns.
~30 days later - Stan Lee in Wisconsin drinks the bottle with Banner's blood.
Shortly after, ~September 2, 8:10 pm - General Ross learns of this and sends his men to search for Banner.
~September 3 (190 days without incident):
Ross has assembled a special forces team to capture Bruce, led by Emil Blonsky. They are sent to Brazil immediately.
Same day in Brazil - Sterns informs Bruce that he has succeeded in reducing the gamma radiation levels in Banner's blood sample.
~September 4, early morning - Ross' team tries to catch Bruce. He hulks out and escapes.
~September 8:
Morning - Bruce returns to himself in Guatemala, thousands of miles from Rio.
Why ~4 days later and not 1: Hulk's running speed in the MCU is about 100 km/h. The distance between Rio and Guatemala that he had to run is ~7 thousand km. I doubt he ran at the same speed the whole distance, so that gives us at least 3-4 days.
(Probably) same day, evening - Bruce in Chiapas, Mexico.
~September 24:
10:40 am - Bruce arrives at Culver University but can't get inside.
Note: there are too many students for summer, and some are wearing sweaters and jackets. All this tells us that it is most likely September.
Night - he visits his old friend Stan.
~September 25 (Friday):
Bruce gains access to the university database, but finds that all of his data has disappeared.
Bruce and Betty meet. She hides him at her house (or rather at her boyfriend's house, according to deleted scenes) and gives him the data she saved.
Betty mentions that it's Friday, and in this movie the days of the week match our universe, unlike Iron Man 1 where they don't. I'll make another post explaining why there's such a difference between the movies, rather than just calling it a mistake.
Blonsky gets an injection of super soldier serum.
~September 26 - General Ross attacks Bruce at Culver University. Bruce hulks out, badly injures Blonsky, saves Betty and runs away with her. They spend the night in a cave.
Note that some trees in the scene are already changing colors to yellow and red, which usually starts in mid-September.
~September 27 - Hulk in. Betty takes Bruce to a motel. Blonsky is healed of all his injuries.
~September 28:
Bruce sends the data to Sterns. He and Betty drive to NYC. Blonsky gets a second injection.
Here we can see "06.12.08", but: 1) it contradicts other dates; 2) the time +0004 does not match the time Bruce sent the message (it was daytime, not 00:04); 3) there is another message with "06.00.08". I conclude that this is not even a date, or not a date we can trust.
Night - Sterns uses his antidote on Banner, which temporarily suppresses the Hulk.
General Ross tranquilizes Bruce and takes him into custody. Blonsky forces Sterns to inject him with Banner's blood, and Blonsky becomes the Abomination. He hits Sterns, and a drop of Banner's blood falls into Sterns' head wound.
The Abomination attacks Harlem. Bruce hulks out and fights him. He defeats Blonsky and runs away.
~October 29 (31 days later) - Bruce in Bella Coola, BC, Canada. He learns to control the Hulk and hulks out on purpose in his cabin.
This is not earlier than October. Closer to November. Not summer at all. The warm clothes people are wearing in the last scenes also confirm this.
Note: the "more than a year without an incident" from The Avengers doesn't really tell us anything about the year of this movie, because Bruce could have had an incident at any time after that. Or a whole bunch of incidents.
Note: comic book The Incredible Hulk: The Big Picture is not compatible with the movie, despite being released in the same box in 2008. Why we can say this: 1) the date of the first incident in the book is April 16, 2005. The movie contains evidence of Ross's hunt from April 2004. 2) The scenes of Bruce and Ross's first confrontation are different. In the movie, it takes place in the hospital; in the book, it takes place in the destroyed lab, where shirtless Banner stayed for three days. 3) In the book Blonsky had already encountered Hulk before the chase in Rio. He didn't see him, but he interrogated a boy who did. In the movie, Blonsky had never heard of the Hulk before.

Clip from In The Mind Of, 2007.
“My goal is become completely happy. I am progressing in this direction all the time, but every time a bad thing happens to me it leaves a wound, a wound that can only be submerged or expressed. If it is suppressed, if affects my behavior always; if it is expressed, it is possible to get over it. If someone used to snarl at me, I would find myself snarling back until I could get off by myself and think, why did this person express anger toward me? Was he responsible for his feeling or did I create the situation that made him express it? And if I met his anger with love instead of a snarl, wouldn’t it make me feel better and happier instead of leaving me depressed and discouraged? More and more I try to meet anger with love. The world is love. Sooner or later everyone will love everyone else. That is the future. I think people are so hipped up on the point of view, us against them; it’s all a hangover from the days of the left wing or fascism. It’s not the way things are anymore; it’s just us.” - Peter Tork, Seventeen Magazine, August 1967 “Utterly relaxed himself, [Peter] hates what he calls ’the presence of paranoia.’‘I hate being in the same room with lots of uptight people. I have to leave if the atmosphere isn’t relaxed, then I try to work out later why it upset me.’” - article by June Southworth, Fabulous 208, January 28, 1968

Current list of my TMNT Fanfics
✅ next to a fic means that it is complete
⏳ next to a fic means it is still being worked on
🔁 next to a fic means it will never be "finished" because it does not require completion (drabble collections, etc.)
I'm dividing these into two sections: fics in my 1970s AU iteration, and everything else.
1970s TMNT AU:
A TMNT Cookbook 🔁
Presented by Michelangelo, King of the Kitchen -- A collection of TMNT-inspired recipes and the very short stories behind them
Rating / Genre: G / Food & Cooking
Size: 6/? chapters (~2,550 words so far)
Notes: Ties into my 1970s AU, but works for just about any version
Duck And Cover ✅
January 28, 1977 - When April O'Neil bought the building where she had spent her early childhood, she knew it was going to be a challenge fixing it up... but she never imagined that challenge would involve uncovering both evidence of the old owner's Cold War paranoia and a group of unusual "tenants" living twenty feet below her new property.
Rating / Genre: G / General
Size: 3/3 chapters (~13,800 words)
Notes: The first story in my 70s Au... centers around how April meets the Turtles
The West 17th Street Escape ⏳
February 24, 1977 - The Turtles are helping April to fix up her apartment when she gets curious about the scars on Michelangelo's shell (and head and arms). She is anxious about asking how he got them, but it turns out that he is more than happy to tell her the story about that cold December night in 1975 on West 17th Street.
Rating / Genre: G / General
Size: 1/4 chapters (~930 words so far)
Notes: The second story in my 70s AU
Other TMNT Fics:
A Cup Of Good Cheer ️✅
April is afraid that she got Donnie the wrong Christmas gift this year, but Leo tries to convince her otherwise.
Rating / Genre: G / Holiday, family, gen
Size: 1/1 chapters (~3,400 words)
Notes: Autistic Donnie vibes
All The Time In The World ✅
All Donatello wanted was a little more time to think…
Rating / Genre: T / Drama
Size: 8/8 chapters (~5,950 words)
Notes / Warnings: 2003 Universe; explosions, peril, guns, injuries
Displaced ️✅
An unprepared Donatello ends up on a Greyhound Bus to Springfield, Massachusetts
Rating / Genre: soft T / Mild drama, road trip, gen
Size: 6/6 chapters (~18,500 words)
Notes / Warnings: This was my first TMNT fic, which I originally posted some 25 years ago. It was written even earlier, though, right after the 1990s movies came out // Blood, guns, mild peril
Fleeting Thoughts 🔁
A collection of 100-word TMNT drabbles
Rating / Genre: G / Various, gen
Size: 10/? chapters (1000 words so far)
Notes: I know it is hotly debated what the length of a drabble should be, but I was always firmly in the 100-word camp.
Just Breathe ️✅
Raphael has a frightening encounter on a chilly winter night.
Rating / Genre: G / Gen, mystery
Size: 1/1 chapter (~1,500 words)
Notes: Fits pretty much every iteration / mentions of suffocation
Midnight On The High Bridge ️✅
The High Bridge between Manhattan and the Bronx has always been one of Michelangelo's favorite places to go for a late night ride on his board; but on this cloudy evening, he finds more than just fresh air and freedom high above the Harlem River.
Rating / Genre: G / M/F, Meet-cute
Size: 3/3 chapters (~8,100 words)
Notes: Brings Oyuki into the 2007 universe; takes place a year after the events of the movie
Passage ️✅
Leonardo has an appointment with death.
Rating / Genre: T / Drama, supernatural
Size: 12/12 chapters (~16,000 words)
Notes / Warnings: Originally written back in the early 2000s // Death and dying, gore, blood, mentions of religion
Red Dust ️✅
I had a dream last night. It was a long, restless, wandering dream.
Rating / Genre: G / Drama, poetry, gen
Size: 1/1 chapter (~700 words)
Notes / Warnings: Donatello-centric, Post SAINW, originally written and posted back in 2007 // mentions of death and dying
Requiescat ️✅
Leonardo died today.
Rating / Genre: G / Drama, grief, poetry, gen
Size: 1/1 chapter (180 words)
Notes / Warnings: Written a couple decades ago // Death and dying
Second Time Around ⏳
Two years after the defeat and banishment of Krang and Shredder, the Turtles and their human friends now have different, more personal challenges to overcome -- challenges that are made all the more difficult to deal with when Baxter Stockman and Karai pull them into a conflict that involves disentangling the complexities time itself.
Rating / Genre: T / Script, gen
Size: 19/? chapters (~28,000 words so far)
Notes / Warnings : A screenplay for a third Bayverse movie // Character death mentioned
Something Wicked ⏳
He felt movement all around him; something like the wind, though the air was dead still. He backed against the curved sewer wall… holding his breath as his eyes scanned the pitch blackness. The feeling grew closer, touching him… a whisper against his damp skin…
Rating / Genre: M / Horror, suspense, gen
Size: 21/? chapters (~64,200 words so far)
Notes / Warnings: Originally written and posted a couple decades ago, now being put under an extensive rewrite // Blood, gore, possible character death, whump, etc.
Still Waters ️✅
They say I'm the quiet one…
Rating / Genre: G / Introspective, poetry, gen
Size: 1/1 chapters (~200 words)
Notes: Also from over twenty years ago. A Donatello introspective.
The Bone Garden ️✅
You gathered up old papers, old photos… and you flipped through them, one by one, remembering…
Rating / Genre: G / Drama, grief, gen
Size: 1/1 chapters (400 words)
Notes / Warnings: Originally written on Halloween, 2007 for the 2k3 episode, Same As It Never Was, but now I feel that it applies to The Last Ronin, as well... or really, any story where one Turtle remained after the others had passed on // Mentions of death
The Scent Of Violets ️✅
Donnie and Mike are trapped underground with a memory
Rating / Genre: T / Drama, gen
Size: 1/1 chapter (~1,800 words)
Notes / Warnings: Written in the late 90s, early 2000s // Blood, severe injury
Three Million Reminders ✅
Master Leonardo and the other elders had told Casey about graveyards and cemeteries, but their descriptions had fallen far short of reality. In his life he had seen plenty of funeral pyres, lone burials, mass graves, vast tracts of scorched and scattered remains… but he had never been to a place like this, where families could come and visit the dead in peace, where mourning need not be rushed for the sake of escape.
Rating / Genre: G / drama / supernatural
Size: 3/3 chapters (~8,200 words)
Notes: Takes place post-ROTTMNT movie battle, as Leo lies unresponsive from his battle with the Krang
Under The Influence ️✅
Leo is under the influence of… something
Rating / Genre: G / humor, gen
Size: 4/4 chapters (400 words)
Notes: Just a silly little four-drabble story I wrote when I wasn't feeling so well a bunch of years back
When She Loved Me ️✅
She always said that I had his eyes. I don't know if I ever really believed her… after all, I never knew him. But I suppose they must be his. Her own eyes were deep and dark, almost black… reflective like mirrors. Mine are blue… light blue, like the sky...
Rating / Genre: G / Drama, gen
Size: 1/1 chapters (~2,500 words)
Notes / Warnings: Oyuki's backstory as I see it. Originally posted at FFnet back around 2000, though the fic is contemporary with the TMNTA Comics, setting its year at 1992 // Parental abandonment and neglect

Happy Birthday, Dean Winchester (A Retrospective Fic)
Castiel pulls something from his coat. Dean expects it to be his angel blade, but it isn’t. It’s… “What, you’re some kinda celestial messenger service now?” he asks, taking the envelope that Castiel hands him. The envelope has his name written on it, and he slides it open with a finger. Inside is a card with a cartoon dog on it and the words, typed in comic sans, ‘Have A Dog Gone Good Birthday.’ Or: a series of birthday drabbles from Dean’s 26th to his 45th birthday
January 24, 2005 26 years old
The day Dean turns 26, he nearly cries in front of a stripper like he’s Holden goddamn Caulfield. He doesn’t — that’s the important thing. But it’s been a long fucking week, he’s strung out on exhaustion and energy drinks, his dad keeps calling him with research and lore questions from three states away, and his own hunt is taking too long. It’s nearly 8pm on his birthday before he even remembers that, oh yeah, shit, that’s today.
Dean’s in Texas waiting for the next full moon so he can gank this werewolf he’s been tracking. He might even be able to relax a bit if it weren’t for the research questions John keeps calling him with, acting like he’s Sammy. He’s been stuck in the library all day reading through old-ass books and trying not to fall asleep.
At 8, he calls it quits and finds his tired way to the strip club. No better way to celebrate, right? Only it’s a Monday and the place is sad. It’s nearly empty, and Dean’s few drinks hardly touch his bad mood.
A beautiful woman dances on the stage in front of him, seeming to enjoy herself regardless of whether he’s paying her any attention — or any money, which he isn’t, because he’s dead broke. He’s slurred his apologies to her several times and she is mostly ignoring him, which he thinks is, yeah, pretty fucking fair.
He pulls out his phone and checks once again for missed calls or messages. He has just one, a text from Bobby: happy bday kid
And this is what pulls the tears to the forefront, where they prick at the back of his eyes.
thx , he sends back.
And then he pulls up the string with Sammy, who’s saved as ‘bitch’ in his phone.
Nothing. Maybe Sam’s run out of texts for the month.
He rubs his eyes with his fists, clears his throat, and pulls the last bill from his pocket. He tosses it onto the stage, drains his glass with a gulp, and stalks out.
January 24, 2006 27 years old
When the clock crosses over from 11:59pm on January 23 to midnight on the 24th, Dean is being thrown through a window by a malevolent spirit. Luckily for him, they’re on the first floor, and even luckier, Sam’s out in the backyard digging up bones, which he unearths just at the right moment, pouring down salt and gasoline as Dean yells, “Hurry up, Sammy!” from the rhododendron bushes in front of the house. The spirit has pulled several knives from the knife block on the kitchen counter and is aiming them at Dean through the window, or what was once a window before Dean’s body took out all the glass. Dean’s thinking he’s not going to live to see 27 when the spirit goes up in flames.
Dean laughs. Improbably, he fucking laughs. And Sam rounds the corner of the house with his matchbox in his hand and a frown on his face. Dean’s covered in twigs and leaves but he’s climbing his way out of the bush, checking that everything is still functioning — ten fingers and ten toes, right where he left them. And it’s his birthday; he’s made it to 27. Pretty amazing for an idiot with about ten death wishes and the world’s most dangerous job.
“Next time, dig a little faster,” he tells his brother with a slap on his shoulder, and heads toward the Impala.
January 24, 2007 28 years old
Sam doesn’t have any visions, and Dean spends the day driving. He counts it as a good way to turn 28, mostly just grateful that his standards are low. Still, every time they stop for gas or a bite to eat, Dean can’t help checking his phone. Waiting on a call that hardly came even when John was alive, and certainly won’t come now that he’s dead. And so it goes; beating against the walls of grief that shroud him.
To his credit, around noon Sam steps into a gas ‘n sip and emerges with a jumbo pack of jerky. “Happy birthday, jerk,” he says, dropping it into Dean’s lap. And Dean smiles.
January 24, 2008 29 years old
As far as last birthdays topside go, this one isn’t too bad. They’ve just wrapped up a thing in Pennsylvania with Bobby, and though Sam wants to head down to Broward, Florida to check out some dumb tourist trap, Dean holds him at bay for another day.
Bobby’s splurged on tickets for a horror fest at one of the theaters in downtown Pittsburgh, and Sam distracts the guy behind the snack stand while Dean grabs several handfuls of brightly colored bags of candy.
They post up in the back row of the theater, the three of them; veterans of a war no one knows about, always have to have their backs to the wall, lest someone (or something) creep up behind them.
Dean kicks his feet up on the back of the seat in front of him and eats himself sick with sour patch kids and twizzlers. “Happy 29,” Bobby says.
“We’ll do this again for 30,” Sam adds, and Dean doesn’t even fight it, not this time. If Sam wants to believe he’ll live to 30, that’s fine. Just a couple more months, and then he’ll be dog chow.
Just a couple more months , he tells himself. Only, it would be nice to make it to 30. Wouldn’t it?
Keep reading on AO3

17 years of "Emigrate" 💿🎶
Today, Richard's first Emigrate album with the title "Emigrate" was published 17 years ago on the 31st of August, 2007. Additional release dates were the 29th of January, 2008 for the US and the 2nd of February, 2008 for Australia.
Recordings for the album took place in Germany, the USA and Denmark, mainly at the Studio Engine 55 in Berlin and New York. Singing and guitar were done by Richard, Arnaud Giroux played bass and Henka Johansson played drums, Olsen Involtini contributed additional guitar sounds and Sascha Moser, the former drummer of Orgasm Death Gimmick, took care of Logic and Pro Tools. Same as several Rammstein albums, this album was produced by Jacob Hellner.
Before the album was released, and even before the promotional CDs were manufactured, the band held a vote on their website. Fans were able to choose which song they wanted to hear in its entirety, after the release of Wake Up. The vote was won by Babe. After that a promotional snippet CD was released, which included both songs in full, but both songs were slightly different versions from the ones later released on the album.
When the CD was released, several promotional sheets were included, among them an interview with Richard. Here he answered question as himself as well as his alter ego "Emigrate", both knew each other for a while and could work well together as they had similar styles and were interested in each other's work. A bit of a peculiar concept, but kind of endearing. The sheets are in german, here is an english translation of this interview.

Here you can see the standard edition inlay, the CD design as well as the alternative cover:

In this interview from one day before the release, Richard explains what kind of meaning the name "Emigrate" has for him and how he came up with it:
Interviewer: And behind this term EMIGRATE, what is the emotional meaning behind it? We know that you chose this name because you went to New York, but...?
Richard: I am someone who wants to be extremely independent. So this project is an emotional release for me. You're constantly faced with fears in your life, and I think there was a certain person waiting inside of me who also wanted to lead her own project, wanted to sing - basically just wanted to be the center of attention. To actually do that in the end, or not to do it, to have to do it, to deal with the public and so on, that certainly has something to do with fear. People always talk a lot, but often don't realize their ideas because they're simply afraid they won't be able to hold their own in the end. I'm glad that I did it.
Interview: Was the name EMIGRATE your preferred name from the beginning or did you also have other name ideas?
Richard: I think names come to you at some point. Searching doesn't help much. At some point I found a piece of paper on the street in New York with “EMIGRATE” written on it. Somehow I thought this word basically described my current state, not only physically but also mentally. Emigrating from my home country, emigrating from the band RAMMSTEIN...it all made sense somehow.
Emigrate entered the German album charts on September 14, 2007 at number 8 and in the following weeks it reached positions 28 and 50, remaining in the Top 100 for a total of five weeks. The song "My world" appeared on the Resident Evil: Extinction - Original Motion Picture Soundtrack.
Two songs were released as singles: "New York City" on the 12th of October, 2007, and "Temptation" on the 7th of March, 2008.

Little personal addition, since this is my favourite Emigrate album and one of my favourite albums ever - here are my three favourite songs from it:

Writing LA weather
Unsolicited advice from a mediocre (on the scale of fanfic) writer (me, aka writing_in_the_dark on AO3) on how to write LA weather as you ship the fuck out of Rhett and Link:
It rarely rains
Thunderstorms are even more rare
It never, ever, ever snows
It doesn't really even get cloudy
It's very dry & seldom humid
It's hot; it's fucking hot, ok?
More info below the cut
It rarely rains:
Average annual rainfall at the Hollywood Burbank Airport for the last ~85 years = 15 in / 39 cm. 80% of this rainfall comes between December and March.
For an example of a heavy rain year: July 2004-June 2005 saw 36 in / 90 cm, and that resulted in 17 deaths related to widespread flooding, sinkholes, and landslides in Southern California.
For an example of an extreme drought year: July 2006-June 2007 saw less than 3 in / 7 cm of rain. The result was another 17 deaths in over 1M acres of wildfires.
Thunderstorms are even more rare:
When there is one, it's news-worthy.
I live ~45 miles / 72 km from downtown LA, and in my experience, there are maybe 1 or 2 thunderstorms every other year.
It never, ever, ever snows:
"But wait," you're saying, "didn't it snow in Burbank in the past couple of years?" Ehhh... there were flurries in the area. It hasn't officially snowed there since the 3 in / 8 cm they got in 1949.
If you ever see snow "in LA" on the news, keep in mind that LA county is large and encompasses zero elevation at the coast, 300 ft / 90 m in downtown LA, 600 ft / 180 m in Burbank, and 10,000 ft / 3,000 m at its highest point.
It doesn't really even get cloudy:
In late spring, we get the marine layer (clouds that roll in off the ocean overnight and burn off in the morning), sometimes referred to as "May Gray" / "June Gloom."
LA famously gets 300 days a year of sunshine.
It's very dry & seldom humid:
Do you live in a place where dehumidifiers are a thing? You would get looked at like you're nuts if you brought one here.
You're far more likely to need humidifier (I own two).
During a Santa Ana wind event (hot, dry air coming down off the high deserts inland), relative humidity can drop into the single digits, with the dew point (the temperature that would be required for precipitation to occur) at -20°F / -29°C (unlikely when it's 80°F+ / 27°C+ outside). Average winds tend to be 40-80 mph / 64-129 kph, with gusts up to 100 mph / 161 kph. LA gets 10-25 of these events a year. They typically last 3 days at a stretch.
It's hot; it's fucking hot, ok?
Sure, people wear their puffer jackets and knee-high boots, but they do that when the high for the day is 63°F / 17°C, because when else are you going to wear your cute winter clothes?
The lowest temperature on record for downtown LA is 28°F / -2°C back in 1949.
The lowest temperature on record for all of LA county is -2°F / -19°C in 1984 in Lancaster, which is in the high desert at 2300 ft / 700 m elevation. The high desert is known for temperature extremes. It is currently 80°F / 27°C in Lancaster at 10:37 pm on May 30, ugh gross.
During the "coldest" months of the year (December-January) in downtown LA, the average high is 67°F / 20°C, and the average overnight low is 48°F / 9°C.
I hope this helps someone! I would be delighted to help further. Message me if you have questions about the "weather" in Southern California.

An Inside Look at Jack Hughes, the Top NHL Draft Prospect Flyers Fans Are Craving
Published January 28, 2019

Understandably, John Wroblewski had initial doubts.
Not necessarily about the player as much as the situation. Wroblewski was coaching the 2016-17 U.S. national U-18 team when the little brother of star defenseman Quinn Hughes tagged along for a skate.
That little brother was Jack Hughes and Wroblewski had yet to see him play.
"You sort of ask the questions, OK, well how often do you have a 15-year-old skating with a U-18 team and how good is the kid?" Wroblewski said.
The verdict?
"The answer is he's pretty good, he's pretty good," Wroblewski said with a laugh last Wednesday in a phone interview with NBC Sports Philadelphia. "We've got to keep an eye on him. You get him out there and instantaneously he fits in and exceeds and then also enamors you - all three of these observationalist thought processes come to your senses in that hour and a half skate of this tiny, little kid who somehow comes out and impresses you so much within that short period of time.
"Not only with his skill level, but kind of how some of the great players out there, how they can make the game slow down or speed up at their will. It's tough to describe unless you've been around him."
Wroblewski has been around him a bunch, coaching Hughes for the second straight season in the U.S. national team development program.
Unequivocally, he now knows all about the 17-year-old, a darting and dynamic center whose playmaking ability can cause motion sickness for opponents.
Before the start of 2018-19, Hughes was hardly a blip on the Flyers' radar. Not with the team signing James van Riemsdyk to bolster an experienced roster and take its biggest step since the 2011-12 season. The NHL draft was an afterthought.
Oh, how things have changed.
The Flyers entered the All-Star break at 19-23-6 and with more points (44) than only two other NHL teams - the Devils (43) and Senators (43). A startling shake-up within the front office and coaching staff became the messy byproduct of another slow start, this one the most impactful of them all.
Suddenly but inevitably, Hughes' name has permeated the fan base. He is widely considered the consensus No. 1 pick for the 2019 NHL draft.
And Flyers fans are astutely aware.
The golden spot is in sight.
Similar to any NHL draft, the climb of the top overall pick will be debated. Many will line Hughes up against past No. 1 selections - from Patrick Kane (2007) to Connor McDavid (2015) and fellow USNTDP product Auston Matthews (2016).
While Hughes is only 5-foot-10, 168 pounds and turns 18 just a month before the draft, Wroblewski sees him developing into a player of his own mold.
My belief is that he'll be in the NHL next year and there's really not a comparable. You're starting to see more and more of the hybrid type of player - guys that play with speed and skill. One of Jack's unique traits is that even though there are questions out there in regards to his size, he's a true center iceman and he will play in the middle and he will figure out a way to make it work. You throw him into the blender with wingers like Kane and [Johnny] Gaudreau, but then you have to put him in the middle of the ice, so he's got that speed like McDavid. He doesn't have McDavid's size, but he's got things that I think McDavid would be envious of, as well. There's a component here that I think has yet to be realized. Like his brother Quinn, young kids are going to look at him and want to be him as a player, sort of revolutionize the position that a quote, unquote undersized centerman can persevere and make it to be a superstar in the National Hockey League - because there's not a ton of them that have done that.
Wroblewski calls Hughes "manicured."
It's an excellent way to describe him. Hughes doesn't sound like a 17-year-old. He's well-spoken because he's well-groomed, unfazed by the hype of being the top-ranked 2019 draft prospect.
He credits much of his maturity and preparation to his "great support system," featuring his family and coaches.
His father Jim Hughes, mother Ellen Weinberg-Hughes and uncle Marty Hughes all played Division I hockey. His older brother Quinn was drafted seventh overall by the Canucks last summer and plays at Michigan, while his younger brother Luke is 15 years old and considered an up-and-coming talent.
"We've all kind of been through the ringer already," Hughes said last Tuesday in a phone interview with NBC Sports Philadelphia. "I'm thankful to have them around me."
Wroblewski said the scouting presence this season for the Hughes-led U-18 team has been "overwhelming," but in a good sense.
"It's been nonstop, it's been relentless," Wroblewski said. "The scouting community - reporters doing articles or scouting prospects, [people] that do this for a living, and of course the NHL scouts - is all trying to decipher where do these guys fall in the pick of the litter. And I'll tell you, right behind Jack on this team, there's a slew of other players that are going to be right there with him in the National Hockey League."
For Hughes, the eyes on him are at an all-time high with the draft a little less than five months away.
Is he keen to the amplified attention?
"No, I've been dealing with that since I was 14, 15 years old," Hughes said. "A scout is pretty much another person in the building. All I have to do is play my game and have fun."
Like Wroblewski said, Hughes is manicured.
He gives you guys the clichés at times, but there's a little bit of twist to his cliché answers. There's insight there, it's not like he's just throwing out these random phrases. He's got practice at it, but he's not just going through the motions when he talks to the media, which gives me a lot of hope that he could be at that ultimate ambassador to the game. Not just a guy that goes through and plays excellent hockey and is a focal point, but somebody who is also attractive to the media. At the same time, when the cameras are away and he's not on the spotlight, he's a kid. He's a high school kid who is goofy and funny in the back of the bus - he's got personality, he's got swagger, he has a lot of the intangibles.
There wasn't just one play or game that convinced Wroblewski.
"I don't think moments capture excellence," he said, "particularly with a kid that's going to go No. 1 overall in the draft."
The World Under-17 Hockey Challenge in November 2017 was when Wroblewski really saw it. The U.S. had taken home gold by beating Canada, 6-4, in Dawson Creek, British Columbia.
Hughes led the field with 15 points (five goals, 10 assists) in six games.
"He just completely dominated the event - and then as the octane and the temperature rose in the tournament, he continued to surpass expectations and continued to dominate and find another level," Wroblewski said. "In a hostile environment - he was a kid who grew up a bit in Toronto wearing the American sweater, and all of a sudden he's thrust into this environment; it was such a pro-Canadian environment, and he allows himself to block out all the X-factors and just concentrate on dominating the game at hand.
"That to me was kind of the time where I was like, 'This kid is No. 1.' I always had that throughout the fall, but from there on, it was like, 'This is the kid that's going No. 1 next year.'"
Hughes strives to be the entire package.
That doesn't mean he's there yet. However, the multifaceted, no-holes-in-your-game mindset is what pushes him.
"As a hockey player, everything you do you want to improve," Hughes said. "You see the best players in the world working on their game, year in and year out. For me, I focus on everything, but some of the things I focus on the most are my faceoffs and my shot. Those are two things that need to be really good to be a good player."
What about his strengths?
I play a new brand of hockey - speed and skill, the way the game is now. I'm kind of an open book. There are a lot of great players out there and something that they all have in common is that they're Swiss Army knives. They can do everything really well. I feel like my game is what my game is, but I'm working on other parts of my game and trying to become the best at everything that I do. I'm going to show up to the rink to compete and have fun.
In 28 games this season as the captain of the U.S. national U-18 team, Hughes has 56 points on 13 goals and 43 assists. In 60 combined games last season between the U-17 and U-18 teams, Hughes had 116 points on 40 goals and 76 assists.
"He's a workhorse on and off the ice," Wroblewski said. "He'll do whatever it takes. When he finds a deficiency in his game, or if there's something not at - if you want to scale things out of five - if there's something that's not at a five, he'll start working right away at getting to that number.
"Last year, it was his shot. He did not have a very good shot. It was still good, but it wasn't elite. He went at it hard this summer, his one-timer, his release, everything else has improved so much in that regard. And that's something that I think he'll continue to do."
The Twitter hashtag has grown in popularity for any struggling team near the NHL basement and in the ballpark of the 2019 draft's first overall slot. #LoseForHughes.
Hughes isn't oblivious to the slogan in which many Flyers fans have adopted.
"The first time I heard it was actually my OHL draft year (2016-17)," he said with a laugh. "It's not new to me, but every time I see it, it's pretty funny and I get a little chuckle out of it."
How hard the Flyers charge after the All-Star break will determine their chances for Hughes, while the NHL draft lottery results will have the final say.
Whichever team does land Hughes, its fans will be on board with his message.
"I'd tell them I hope to give them a lot of good years," Hughes said. "That's what every player wants - they want to go to a city that's hungry to win and a city that's a lot of fun. That's really what I'd be excited about - have fun with the city and playing hockey for the community and the city, for however long I'm there."
#'Wroblewski calls Hughes “manicured.”#It's an excellent way to describe him. Hughes doesn't sound like a 17-year-old. He's well-spoken because he's well-groomed'#was honestly the wildest three sentences I've read in succession in a long time#geez#jack hughes#post#draft era jhughes#john wroblewski

Showtime slated “The Guantanamo Candidate,” a 30 minute-long episode of its Vice documentary series, for May 28.
The episode opens with a shot of the outside the US prison complex at the southern tip of Cuba, where Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis served as a lawyer from March 2006 to January 2007.
Vice reporters had secured on camera interviews with a former detainee, Mansoor Adayfi, and a guard at the prison, staff sergeant Joe Hickman. Both said they remembered seeing DeSantis at the prison during a controversial detainee hunger strike. The Vice crew traveled to Guantanamo Bay to attempt to try to speak to military staff, and made several attempts to ask DeSantis about the allegations directly, eventually confronting him at a press conference in Israel, according to a detailed description provided to Semafor.
But Showtime viewers who turned on their televisions May 28 never saw the episode. (They were treated to a re-run of the scripted drama Yellowjackets.)
Showtime and Vice cited “scheduling” in a statement after The Hollywood Reporter noticed the missing episode.
But in fact, two people familiar with the incident said, the Paramount-owned cable channel ditched the DeSantis episode over fears of the political consequences. One person briefed on the decision told Semafor that the company’s Washington lobbyist, DeDe Lea, raised concerns about the piece.
