this is such a small moment, and I totally missed it the last time I read this chapter, but
Tumblr media
if I had a nickel for every time Wen Ning went out of his way to save Jiang Cheng and got kicked in response, I would have two nickels, which isn't a lot, but it's kinda funny that it happened twice

1. A) Hi I'm looking for fics where Wei Wuxian actually gets angry after lan Wangji r-words (rapes) him.
B) ITMF fics where wwx and lz fight over their kid(s) and wwx is trying to stop lz from taking the kid(s) away @thehappyyellow (In the future please use the full word or 'non-con' for clarity and for possible phrase filtering ~Mod L)

2. So I saw a reel on insta the other day where someone was like: bloodbenders on a battlefield, controlling corpses. And my thoughts immediately went to an untamed/avatar the last airbender fusion? Firebending wen, energy bending removing "golden core equivalents", water bender &/or energy bender wwx, nonbender jyl...jin= n water tribe, Jiang south. Nie=earthbenders, lan=airbenders. Idk. Lost avatar. Hunting spirits to bond with to get more bending/be more powerful. Big wars in both, lots options

inspired by this post by @whumpbby and @marudny-robot but posted on its own because of the zhanchengxian vibes that don't fit the original post and the length. this really got away from me.
may i butt in here with the alternative idea of lan wangji and jiang cheng working together to revive wei wuxian?
for this to work three things must be a given a) jin ling must be grown up ideally with a family of his own b) yunmeng jiang inheritance is rock solid, c) the circumstances of wei wuxian's death must be harrowing. (yet another unasked for self-sacrifice would put jiang cheng into the correct headspace, i think)
so, lan wangji and jiang cheng work together to revive wei wuxian and they find out that the best body given the absence of an original body would be jiang cheng's.
lan wangji finds out first. this puts him at an impasse. because he does want wei wuxian back and he swore he would get him back morality be damned. and yet wei wuxian loved jiang cheng, unconditionally, beyond sense and reason. he would hate lan wangji for doing that.
lan wangji decides to test jiang cheng. he leaves the scroll for him to find. if jiang cheng reads it and never mentions it again, lan wangji can still decide to force him into the ritual. if jiang cheng reads the scroll and decides to go along. well, it's his choice, isn't it?
of course, the next day jiang cheng slams the scroll onto their shared table and says, he found a solution. lan wangji is stumped, he didn't expect jiang cheng to choose this. not really. so large is his surprise that he blurts out, why? do you want to die?
jiang cheng looks at him for a long moment, then his mouth twists into a wry smile. "i was always supposed to die for wei wuxian." he doesn't elaborate. instead jiang cheng sets a plan into motion, first he says, we must make sure that the other sects don't go to war with you. only, yunmeng jiang and jin ling will know of lan wangji's involvement, jiang cheng decides, if they find out some other way, they will assume you tricked me somehow. they'll probably still hate you but they won't persecute you or wei wuxian. the other sects can't know because that would damage lan wangji's reputation and your reputation is what protects wei wuxian.
as for wei wuxian, he doesn't need to know about your involvement, jiang cheng reasons, he hates other people doing what he does so callously and you'll be a prime target for his anger. lan wangji still shell-shocked by jiang cheng going with the self-sacrifice just stares. jiang cheng misinterprets his stare and goes, even if he does find out he'll forgive you, he only ever sees the best in you.
jiang cheng writes a few very long letters to jin ling, to his heir, his disciples.
"you're not writing to wei wuxian?" lan wangji asks.
jiang cheng puts down his brush. "it's better if he hears it from you." he explains. "my words, wei wuxian will find a way to twist them. he respects you, believes in you, it's safer for you to tell him if we want to stop him." lan wangji understands. "he'll try to bring you back." of course, wei wuxian loved jiang cheng. the man himself rolls his eyes, "yeah, the bastard thinks he's still indebted to my father."
"wei ying doesn't mention your father often. yet he speaks of you once a day, often more than that."
jiang cheng snorts, can't be anything good.
on the contrary, lan wangji drank vinegar more often than not when wei wuxian spoke of yunmeng jiang and the jiang siblings. adoration in every word about that past life. the vitriol he spared for jiang cheng of today and even for him his voice took on a wistful quality. if jiang cheng offered, would you still stay in gusu? lan wangji wondered in the morning gloom when wei wuxian still slept next to him. his mind only settled when he remembered that jiang cheng held nothing but resentment for wei wuxian and would never offer or ask.
"you don't think he cares for you." lan wangji concludes.
jiang cheng sighs deeply. "he didn't have much of a choice, did he?" he turns back to his writing. lan wangji cuts in, "you know better than to think him so opportunistic." jiang cheng pulls his hand from where it's reached for the brush and redirects his attention to lan wangji. "it's not opportunistic for an orphan to choose safety. maybe he was fond of me back then but he was young and didn't know what the world had to offer." lan wangji isn't going to convince jiang cheng otherwise, unlike lan wangji, jiang cheng has no doubt who wei wuxian would choose.
-
"we have a problem." jiang cheng states because he doesn't believe in social conventions like greetings and disingenious niceties, a trait lan wangji begrudgingly approves of.
"wei wuxian will have access to his golden core once he's inside my body, he could fuck the whole thing up." yet another thing of jiang cheng's that lan wangji must bitterly approve of. jiang cheng, lan wangji has noted, never refers to the golden core as anything but wei wuxian's. lan wangji insinuated the same thing to wei wuxian only once and wei wuxian's face had gone dark. the next day, he went on an impromptu three months trip after which he acted like the words and their subsequent argument had never happened.
"are you listening?" jiang cheng's brow is furrowed. "listen, i know the plan was for you to find wei wuxian a few days later but if wei wuxian fights me, ...."
"back in the cave, wei wuxian always believed you would come for him." lan wangji says instead of anything reasonable such as i wonder if you're fully commited which would light a zealous fire in jiang cheng to prove him wrong. jiang cheng stares at him. "lan wangji, i've never beaten wei wuxian at anything. we can't fail."
he's not looking for reassurance. what could lan wangji offer him other than insincere (sounding) platitudes. jiang cheng is not a man who leaves things to chance, his planning is meticulous, he has considered the jianghu turning on wei wuxian, prepared enough money and identity passes to dongyin and beyond. he expects wei wuxian to resist maybe even to overcome him, lan wangji is supposed to be the ace up his sleeve.
something churns in lan wangji's insides, he nods his assent anyways.
-
wei wuxian fights, furiously, viciously. but jiang cheng is equally furious and far more vicious.
"didn't you say you wanted to live your life? that you wanted to see the world? what about all those talismans you were going to invent?" jiang cheng mocks the plans wei wuxian made, he must have been listening at every discussion conference at every night hunt. then even more cruelly. "what about the people you left? what do you think happened to your lan zhan?" it's perfect, wei wuxian falters, heart suddenly cleaved in two.
lan wangji has his fingers on the guqin's strings, he plays,
"--"
the summoning array goes dark, the body inside collapses. lan wangji shoots up and runs inside the cottage. the body is lying unmoving on the ground. lan wangji rushes towards it, he's killed them both, what was he thinking?
a fist meets his face, hard enough for bone to crunch and teeth to rattle. it's instinct more than will that responds to the attack, either man would have the right to kill him. he ceases his defense and allows the other man to throw him on the ground.
above him jiang cheng's face twists into a jovial grimace. "husband," wei wuxian says. "what have you done?" lan wangji sags in relief as wei wuxian carefully places jiang cheng's booted foot on lan wangji's sword hand.
there's a flaw in jiang cheng's plan that lan wangji never pointed out.
"we brought you back." lan wangji's never been able to lie to wei wuxian. the boot grinds down.
"we?" wei wuxian tilts his head. "who's this we you speak of, i wonder?" bones are ground into flesh. "you're here hole and hale."
and here's another flaw, lan wangji suspected but wasn't certain of until now. wei wuxian won't forgive him. which is fair, he's not sure he could forgive in wei wuxian's place. wei wuxian leans in.
"how did you do it?" if he presses down any harder lan wangji's hand will be ruined. "how did you convince jiang cheng to...." wei wuxian's voice breaks off.
"i put the notes on the table for him to see." lan wangji says. the next moment, wei wuxian's hands are around his neck. "some notes? as if that would have been enough?" his nails scratch at lan wangji's skin, no pressure on lan wangji's throat. lan wangji is glad for that, wei wuxian would be upset if killed him, he thinks. at the very least, he would be upset if he killed him quickly. lan wangj can't decide if fighting him or staying still would prevent that.
"did you tell him, i was better than him?" wei wuxian hisses as if he hasn't said that a thousand times. lan wangji doesn't think pointing it out would help. but wei wuxian's eyes take on a hysterical gleam. "and the fool believed it, didn't he? all your lies. of how he couldn't make anything out of himself without me, how he was only ever half as good as me? how everyone always preferred me?" wei wuxian jerks his hand back and brings it down in a swift strike.
the hand stops an inch from lan wangji's face. zidian sparks to life, whacks wei wuxian in the chest hard enough to knock him off lan wangji. the whip wraps around wei wuxian in tight coils. lan wangji sits up, avoids looking at his throbbing hand.
jiang cheng's face glares at him familarly. "lan wangji," its mouth spits. "how dare you mess this up? a wrong note? of all the things, i expected to go wrong, you weren't even in my cards." jiang cheng hangs his head. "trust a lan to screw me over." the body goes stiff. and then hisses, "you planned this together?"
jiang cheng laughs, "what did you expect us to just accept your magnanimous sacrifice? fuck you, wei wuxian. you fool. you idiot."
"and your plan was to kill yourself? great job, jiang cheng, very original."
"aren't you the one called a genius? how could we, the mediocre brained possibly come up with an alternative when your first solution to every minor inconvenience is falling on a sword?"
"minor inconvenience, we were trapped! we all would have died! you and lan zhan had better chances of getting out. it was obviously the best choice."
"you decided." wei wuxian and jiang cheng focus on lan wangji. "you never asked us what we thought."
wei wuxian glares at him. "i didn't need to. i could tell what you were thinking. between the two of you, the choice would have been jiang cheng. you because you love me. jiang cheng because he's still hung up on the golden core. i wasn't going to let that happen."
in lan wangji's head a youthful rage sprouts again, he can't open his mouth, he doesn't know what will come out.
"maybe so. but if only you were open to discussing anyone but you, who knows maybe the rescue parties would have found us before we got to a decision. too bad, we'll never know, wei wuxian because you went and tried to do everything on your own."
"that's a bit of a leap, no one even knew we had been on a nighthunt. there is never going to be any situation in which i'm going to let you die for me, jiang cheng. do you hear me? i don't care how you feel about it as long as you're alive to so."
"it still could have been me then." lan wangji interrupts their spat. one of them frowns at him like shufu frowns at imbecilic sect heirs. lan wangji thinks that must be jiang cheng.
"lan zhan, don't be ridiculous how is that any better? you think i wouldn't be devastated by your loss? where would i even go without you?" wei wuxian asks as if current events left any doubts.
"you could have brought me back. if you called, i would come." lan wangji states earnestly.
"unbelievable," mutters jiang cheng. as if he wouln't have helped wei wuxian steal the remains of the yin tiger seal, just like he followed them into the temple. and then the body keels over.
-
the ritual drained jiang cheng's spiritual reserves. it's only sleep. lan wangji drags them over to the comfortable cot to rest and hovers over them, whistling inquiry while feeding qi into jiang cheng's body.
a groan. lan wangji blinks, tilts and jerks up right. a dark eye slides open, blinks twice to focus.
"lan wangji, why the fuck haven't you taken care of your hand? what the fuck is wrong with you?" jiang cheng calls back zidian and drags himself from the bed.
"stay down." he snarls at lan wangji. he stumbles over to a cabinet from which he drags a medical kit. he comes back and begins pulling out supplies. "you didn't even cool it. can you bend."
"it's not broken." jiang cheng shoots him a dark glare. lan wangji refuses to cower under it. "no just bruised like.... what the hell was he thinking."
"i enabled you on a suicidal endeavour." lan wangji says. "i never expected another reaction." jiang cheng has a very narrow minded view of wei wuxian but even he isn't bold enough to deny that wei wuxian had been upset. "he would have gotten over it." which is a bold statement after hearing wei wuxian swearing that he'd do whatever it took to ensure jiang cheng's safety. jiang cheng peers closer at lan wangji's neck and huffs, "made a right mess." whether he's talking about lan wangji's neck or the entire day, lan wangji can't say.

MXTX Side Character Upper Bracket
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Jiang Cheng from MDZS
Submission 1: Extremely traumatized yet also somehow the most normal and functional by the end. Huge bitch but I (and at least one of the other characters) think he deserves to be even worse after everything he's been through
Submission 2: Simultaneously badass and the most cringefail man. Extremely funny and stylish but still manages to be very uncool. Cries a lot. Also he's lost a lot of tumblr polls—let's give him another shot! We definitely love him more than his dad did!
Submission 3: He's got mommy issues AND daddy issues. He loves his sister and his shige so much. He's traumatised and incredibly competent. He rebuilt his whole sect! He's an asshole (affectionate). He's purple! He's got the coolest weapon ever conceived. I'm so worried about his blood pressure basically all the time.
Tianlang-jun from SVSSS
Submission: Incredible character who does it like him
#bro tlj read porn abt his son and his teacher and just assumed thats what happened #and then tried to hook his nephew up with said teacher #he also is introduced lounging in a coffin #oh and he is a sugar baby #its true no one does it like him (via @galsjustwannahavefun)

Liu Qingge from SVSSS
#great sect brother! Dependable reliable and most of the time sorta sane #Great big brother to his younger sister #Stablest person around by a lot (still pretty off the rails) #Fought someone better than him every day for five years to get his best friend's body back for a burial #Got rescued from the plot for the specific purpose of saving someone back #and then had to watch that someone repeatedly not let him save them (via @rights-for-redshirts)

I love reading your headcanons they're all so interesting! By any chance do you have any thoughts on a pregnant JC, through natural (trans or a/o/b for example) or unnatural means (tentacles or curses for example). He's a family man, so I like throwing family angst at him, twins would make him cry I think
Aw, thanks, I love headcanoning and coming up with little story ideas!
I have so many thoughts on pregnant JC-_-
What do you wish for? Omega!JC getting pregnant via one of the eligible bachelors? During the Sunshot, getting pregnant via NMJ, and suffering through carrying the kid so big he spends the last two months mostly laying on his side and cursing to the heavens?;) A mutual-hel deal with Lan Xichen that will result in one heir for each in a post-war world where omegas of high station are rare? An alcohol-fueled night with Wei Wuxian, that left him with a pup and heart full of regret? Pick your poison!
I always liked the omega to be a bit of a dick and not compliant with stereotypes - except they are, but only with the important ones. Like JC being an angry bitch most of the time, but also a good parent to Jin Ling, caring about his safety and happiness, but in his own frank way.
As a mom, he'd be talking to his newborn child as if it was an adult disciple that constantly fucks up ("Now what? Spitting the food out again? Marvelous, now you have wasted the meal and dirtied another outfit. I'll have you run rounds around the compound if you dare to do it again!") There's no baby-talking ("I'd break your legs if they weren't so short! Look at these toes, too damn short! What are you giggling about, huh? Spend that energy in learning how to talk!"). An outsider would think that Sect Leaders hates his pups, but anyone from Yunmeng knows this is their love language. He growls and snaps at the baby all day, but try to take it away from him and he'll bite hands off. The kid spends the first six months of its life strapped to his chest.
I like the idea of pregnant JC because of the suffering xD He has no time for this. Absolutely no time. He wants the child, but he hates being pregnant. Not even because of morning sickness or any pains - actually, his pregnancies are quite easy, his skin get a better and his hair is marvelous. Bit the limitations are a bitch!
Can't train, can't drink wine, can't night-hunt, can't lift, and in the end months, can't even get out of the bathtub without help-_- He's done. The the last two months he spends in the lake as much as possible - at least there he can still move with a degree of ease and grace. He hates his pregnancy robes (so undignified) and hates how big he gets (but if an aunties in the teashop reach to pat his stomach, he will let them without a word), what a drag!
What he doesn't realise is that pregnancy looks good on him - his hormones react well and he's glowing, his temperament evens out and he sleeps more, which only aids the previous two. His sect bursts with pride at having such beautiful Leader. I subscribe to the idea that the Jiang disciples are more like a pack of Wei Wuxians, so they become ridiculously protective and wanting to please, every single one desperate to touch the belly T_T They keep bringing more and more exotic and rare foodstuffs, keep achieving more and more risky deeds to get his attention and earn the honour of patting the stomach,
"Sect Leader, please try this dish! It's sweet and sour, it should satisfy your cravings!"
"Sect Leader, I have defeated a yao during the night hunt!"
"Sect Leader, Lan Wangji has been spotted on the border of Yunmeng! I will go and break his hand for you!"
"Are you fucking crazy?!"
Many disciples taste Zidian (but also many get to touch the tummy), because he shouldn't be dealing with this!
And god forbid Wei Wuxian learning about it! Jiang Cheng's stomach will be hijacked!
...hmm, I like the idea of the father being absent during the pregnancy (for whatever reason) and the sect smoothly steping in to bridge the gap. They make sure he's never alone, that things are taken care of. They know he doesn't like to be smothered or pitied, so they're as respectful as they can be (which is not terribly much but it's the intention that counts), but they show their care all the time. He can push and growl, but there's always a hand ready to help him stand up or get off the sword, always someone with food on stand-by, etc.
In an a/b/o scenario, the alpha disciples will rotate to spend time with their omega Leader - sit by his bed at night, emiting calming pheromones and providing gentle touches. JC's first alpha disciple will scent him every morning, to keep the pregnancy developing correctly. The sect aunties will tidy up his nest and make sure that his throne is laid out with soft fabrics and support pillows. The future baby belongs to the Sect and they will all chip in to bring it in safely. (Idea that Yunmeng Jiang is the only sect to be happy with an omega leader, because they stick to their motto. If the omega isn't mated, they'll just have an alpha first disciple and the balance will be achieved, no stress).
...
I have so many of these in my head XD Just throw ideas at me and I'll deliver ;)

[Platonic, WRH takes care of JC for the day]
RuoCheng | Mo Dao Zu Shi 26-05-2021
[platonic ruocheng - father figure]
Where jfm takes jc with him to a sect conference at NC, but ends up needing to fly back to LP because of a bigger problem happening. (Surprisingly, wrh is in a good enough mood not to make him stay and just move the sl meeting to when he comes back).
This leaves his guest room empty, to which servants go to clean and make everything comfortable for when he comes back. but they find jc pacing around the room!
The poor boy is looking anxious since he woke up and his father was not in his room (which is right next to his). His father says that they should always be on time for breakfast (especially when it comes to wrh temper) and he always makes sure jc is well-prepared to come with him.
Yet it is clearly passe the time they usually go to have breakfast and his father hasn't come back to get him! Of course, the young jiang heir would get anxious about the sudden disappearance of his father.
wrh is immediately noticed about this, making him rather unimpressed by jfm. Has the man really managed to forget his own /son/ in NC when he still took the time to make sure all his disciples were with him? The man couldn't even say that it was out of habit, as it was known that jfm had taken jc with him to multiple conferences already. He should /know/ his son is with him.
He's also informed that the young boy doesn't believe anyone who says his father has gone back home without him, the servant said the young heir looked distressed at the thought of that.
wrh decides to take the matter into his hands (which does worry some of the other sect leaders present), joining jc who was still in his father's room, but this time eating. (after all, he had skipped breakfast).
jc is clearly surprised to see him, standing up to greet him politely and correctly. wrh does smile at how well-behaved the youngster is (he couldn't say this much of some other young boy). he casually takes a seat across from the boy, telling him it's alright to keep eating. "If you want to become a strong cultivator you must eat correctly".
Still, jc only sits back to eat after pouring a cup of tea for the sect leader.
"Has your father come back to his room?" he asks casually as if he didn't know what his servant had already told the boy.
He receives a quiet but clear no, jc looking nervous.
"I see, so he did return back to lp and forgot his son," he said, clicking his tongue at the end.
jc pales at the thought as if it is confirmed by a sect leader was now enough to believe it. "B-But a-die will come back right?" he asks, worried feeling his voice as if scared that he had just been abandoned.
wrh was a bit surprised by the question (and the tone of it), not expecting for this boy to look as if it was a real worry he had, than to be left behind forever by his father. He tries to keep his expression calm despite the frown forcing its way on his brow.
"Of course he will, I do not think sect leader jiang wants me to raise his heir" he says. He's actually pretty much none of them would leave their kid to him.
Tension leaves the small shoulder of jc, looking relieved at the words. He then looks around a little bit, as if unsure.
"Do you know when he will come back?"
"I don't," says the older man, a small worried frown coming to jc brows.
The boy is silent for a bit, eating silently as the sect leader sips his tea (it's one more common to the yunmeng region, a bit less to his taste, but he'll still drink it after jc offered it so politely). "Have you ever visited the the market of qishan?" he asks, looking back at the boy. jc seems surprised by his question but shakes his head.
His father never took him out of NC when he would bring him to a conference held by the wen. He mostly saw the diner hall, the guest rooms and the training ground.
"What a shame, I'll take you there later, I am sure Qishan will be as entertaining as Yunmeng".
jc looks shocked by the suggestion, as he would have maybe expected for the sect leader to ask a servant or disciple to take care of him. Was he really suggesting taking care of jc /himself/?
"You do not want to?". jc quickly shake his head, before saying he would love to visit Qishan. wow. the man is not as scary and bad as his parents keep saying. How would he suggest taking him out to visit Qishan if he truly was as bad as they say?
He finishes his breakfast and this is when wrh decides to take him. Everything as been put on hold anyway and no other sect leader seems to be needing his attention right now(he suspects they must be happy he's not bothering them).
He learns how quickly the young boy is well-behaved (nearly surprising with how little jfm seems to want him around) though he seems to shy to ask for help, especially when they are in a busier street and the boy nearly lost him because he seemed scared to ask to be lifted up (If it had been wc, the boy would have asked the moment they got there).
obviously, everyone in Qishan knows wrh and so they treat very well the young boy in his arms (a new son? but aren't purple robes the jiang signature?).
wrh is even in a pretty good mood, buying snacks that seem to catch the boy's eyes (he seems to really enjoy spicy food he notices) and little trinket with design and colour different from what you would find in Yunmeng and that jc seems to really like. of course, for most of these jc doesn't really ask first, not wanting to be greedy, especially with slw money.
they come back for lunch and he makes jc seat closer to him (since no one from Yunmeng is here anymore). The other sect leader asks how was his evening with wrh (mostly to make sure nothing bad happen) and is a bit surprised to learn how nice the man had been with the boy.-
later jc admits he has to practice his calligraphy (training and study program he still needs to follow even when away).
so wrh also help in that, doing some calligraphy himself as jc worked on his, showing him where he did some mistakes or where his stroke was not good. but for his age, jc calligraphy is pretty well and he doesn't restrain from telling him. A pleased and bright smile illuminates the boy's face "Really? Father says my calligraphy should be better".
What is the man expecting from a child? Perfect calligraphy? This is good for his age.
He even brings jc to where his disciple trains, lettings him join his sons' training, claiming it is good to see other forms too.
And once dinner comes, jc is yet again sitting with the wen, seemingly talking about his training and how he really enjoyed it. Sure wrh seemed strict and maybe a bit severe when he was training others, but he was still nice to him.
the next two days when jfm is gone the routine seems similar, where wrh takes care of jc alongside his own sons. Some of the other sect leaders would swoop in too, keeping jc entertained and helping him in his training and study.
jfm comes back to a group of somewhat unimpressed sect leaders, clearly looking nervous because /now/ he knows he has forgot his son behind.
jc couldn't be happier to see him finally back, telling him all about how well wrh took care of him. later jfm tries to apologise for the trouble his son might have caused (also apologising on the side for forgetting him).
"Jiang Cheng is a well-behaved kid, it wasn't hard to take care of him" simply replied wrh. "I couldn't say the same from other young members at lp".
jfm smile is a bit stiff on his lips after the comments, letting go of his apologies after that, even a bit more when all the other sect leaders also join in into telling him well-behaved and studious jc is(and some are less discreet in letting know jfm could have done better).
the conference and too soon for jc who had really been enjoying the attention and praises he did from all those great cultivators (although he was still happy to go back to his jiejie and shixiong).
afterwards, everyone (other than jfm) stops being surprised when wrh would act so nicely to the jiang sect heir, having (to the suspicion of some) grown a soft spot for the young man who was simply looking for recognition.
jc probably also becomes the only outsider disciple that wx and wc don't act all arrogant around because of how often they ended up playing/studying/training together when they were younger.
I just want jc to have friends who are ready to stand up for him on the spot like "WHAT did you say about the HEIR of Yunmeng? Are you looking for a beating?!?".
and let's just imagine how wrh soft spot for jc and wx/wc good relationship with him makes it so that the attack on lp doesn't happen. the wen are actually just waiting for jc to take over the sect to make a better alliance with him.

Since I've been back watching Hospital Series, here's a snippet of my Hospital AU that won't see the light of day for a while.
Having finished up with a very complicated surgery not too long ago, Wei Wuxian was back outside in his usual street clothes.
Off to the side of the main entrance there was a little smoking area, it was a place that he had come to frequent.
Feeling the cool breeze and the burn of the smoke in his lungs from the cigarette Wei Wuxian felt grounded after all the intensity. To one he might have looked intimidating, but to those who knew him; he was a genius, and a softie.
Looking back, Wei Wuxian turned and squinted inside the hospital past the large windows, it seemed like Jiang Cheng finally finished up his introduction with the new young resident doctors.
Snuffing out the cigarette, Wei Wuxian lifted the flap of his jacket and gave it a quick sniff before trying to get rid of the smell of smoke. Picking up his helmet, he dashed back inside the hospital, being accompanied by the little clinks of his keys and the buckles of his leather jacking colliding against each other.
Jiang Cheng was anything but paying attention at the moment, he was more focused on the patient sheets he had been handed.
Feeling a hand on his arm he was about to turn but the force of something had him stepping backwards until his back came in contact with a wall, while another arm was placed next to his head, cornering him.
Brows furrowed, the angelite eyes finally looked up from the papers and one of the furrowed brows raised from their frown with a complete lack of amusement towards the bright toothy smile on the culprit’s face.
“Hi, kitten…” Wei Wuxian purred.
Jiang Cheng could only huff at the nickname as he placed his hand on Wei Wuxian’s chest, but didn’t push just yet. He trailed his eyes down the neck towards his own hand then back up to lock eyes with Wei Wuxian.
“You smell of cigarettes and disinfectant, did you have surgery?”
“Your nose is as sharp as ever,” Wei Wuxian hummed, leaning closer to whisper into Jiang Cheng’s ear.
Towards the further corner a group of students were all unfortunate enough to witness everything right from the start - to the delinquent coming into the hospital. To him cornering Dr. Jiang
“What do we do? Someone call the police.” One of the young boys hissed while another tried to pull their phone out. While a third youth ran off to call security.
“Do- Do you think he’s a loan shark? Or a gangster??” The second student spoke up, while trying to unlock their phone.
“Stop messing around, we’re out in public.” Jiang Cheng hissed as he nudged Wei Wuxian with his hand on the man’s chest, but he also held onto the jacket. Damn his fingers betraying his feelings.
“Oh you wound me, can I at least get some kisses before I go and wait for you in the staff room?” Wei Wuxian pulled his best puppy eyes, which was completely out of place for the man’s image.
Jiang Cheng could only roll his eyes and the antics of his husband before he let go of the leather jacket and used his index finger to motion for the other to come closer.
Seeing the finger, Wei Wuxian perked up like an over excited puppy - in fact, if he had a tail it would’ve probably been wagging like crazy - it felt like he was promised to get taken out for a walk.
With a little huff, Jiang Cheng leaned forwards and captured Wei Wuxian’s lips. It was supposed to be a quick little kiss on the lips, but Wei Wuxian had other ideas and instead pushed forwards, pressing Jiang Cheng against the wall and deepening the kiss.
The students off to the side could only stare in shock, as the phone slipped out from their hands and clattered to the floor.
 What the hell just happened??
As much as Jiang Cheng enjoyed the kiss he was still aware of their surroundings and they were at work of all places. Damn.
It took a second of mental preparation but Jiang Cheng finally bit on Wei Wuxian’s bottom lip, not hard enough not to draw blood, but hard enough for Wei Wuxian to pull away.
With this, Jiang Chenf took the opportunity and slipped out from Wei Wuxian’s grasp, making a run for it, but only stopping further up  the hallway to turn back,
“Stop being a pain in the ass and go get some sleep, you just got out of surgery and I finish in an hour.”
Wei Wuxian stood there for a moment watching Jiang Cheng’s back but perked up when the other turned,
“Okay, I’ll be in the staff room. A-Cheng, wake me up before you go home.” There it was, the stupid grin was back on Wei Wuxian’s face.
The students were all still standing dumbstruck as one of them came back with a security guard.
“What happened?”
“I genuinely don’t know he’s more of an idiot or a genius. Probably an idiot more than anything.”
The group all startled and they turned to look at the woman with her hands in her pockets, her coat reading, “Dr. Wen Qing.”

Mafia AU prompt (your choice of fandom and pairing): Character A used to be in the mob/other organized crime/gang, and they were pretty high up (might have even been a boss) but they got out of the game and went fully legit. They moved on with their life (might have gotten out because they met Character B, or that might have happened after). But they never told Character B and now someone from their past is calling them back to do one last job.
Possible options:
- Character B (or another important civilian) has been taken hostage either by A's former gang or a rival and that's why they finally agree to return
- Character A tries to complete whatever mission/task they've been called back for without ever telling B (this goes predictably badly, however you want it to blow up)
- the "one last job" is a string along and Character A ends up being pulled further into their past role than they ever intended and now need to fight their way back out. Again.
I hope this one sparks something for you, Sass!!!
Oh man...oh man oh man...you know what this au calls for? The return of the katana
Jiang Yuelou didn’t miss the triad life.  He didn’t miss the life at all.  He didn’t miss the way his beloved husband Chen Yuzhi would look at him with fear in his eyes whenever he kissed him goodbye in the morning, like he was afraid he would never come home.  He didn’t miss the way Chen Yuzhi would practically sag or even cry with relief whenever he stepped through the doors and he didn’t miss the way Chen Yuzhi would look so haggard from having staying up so late worrying about him and about him coming home…so yeah.  He didn’t miss the triad life.  He was much happier with his normal life as he could spend as much time as he wanted with his beloved…who was the whole reason he got out in the first place.  If it wasn’t for Chen Yuzhi, Jiang Yuelou would still probably be the leader of the 天狗吃日…and also dead in a ditch somewhere.  His husband saved him from that fate…and he never knew how great life was until he met him.  But unfortunately…the past had a bad habit of coming knocking at the most inopportune times.
~*~*~*~*~*~
One day, as Jiang Yuelou was sitting in his home office (as he now worked as a private investigator), there was a knock at the door, making him look up in confusion.
“Now who could that be?” he wondered before he slowly pushed himself to his feet and walked out of the study, walking over to the door before he opened it.
“Can I help—” he started but before he could his sentence, a cloth was suddenly shoved in his face, causing his eyes to widen before they fluttered and he hit the floor.
~*~*~*~*~*~
Later that evening, when Chen Yuzhi came home, he opened the door and stepped inside, only to frown; normally Jiang Yuelou would be there to greet him…or would be working in the kitchen making dinner.
‘That’s weird.  But maybe he’s out on a case’ he thought to himself.  He then headed into Jiang Yuelou’s study, only to pause; all of Jiang Yuelou’s things were still there.  He looked at the study and frowned before he turned and stepped out of the study, heading back through the house before he stepped out of the door, looking around.  He looked around for a moment before he made his way down the street to a non-descript building and stepped inside, walking over to two men that were sitting inside.
“Have you seen Jiang Yuelou?” he asked.  The two men, Jiang Yuelou’s former subordinates Song Rong and Sun Yongren, jumped in surprise at his voice before they turned to look at him.
“Dr. Chen!  What a surprise.  And to answer your question, no, we haven’t seen him” Sun Yongren answered.  Chen Yuzhi frowned.
“You…haven’t?” he replied.  Song Rong raised an eyebrow.
“Why do you ask?” he inquired.  Chen Yuzhi huffed.
“Because I came home and Jiang Yuelou wasn’t there” he explained.  Sun Yongren frowned.
“Maybe he’s out on a case?  You know investigations can go late into the night” he stated.  Chen Yuzhi huffed again.
“I thought that at first but when I went into the study, all of his things were still there.  His gun, his phone, his wallet…he didn’t take any of that” he explained.  Sun Yongren and Song Rong both looked at him with wide eyes before they stood to their feet.
“What do you want us to do?” Song Rong inquired.  Chen Yuzhi sighed.
“Can you ask around?  See if anyone saw Jiang Yuelou?  See if he was with anyone or going anywhere?” he asked.  Song Rong and Sun Yongren nodded.
“Yes sir” they replied.  Chen Yuzhi dipped his head.
“Thank you” he thanked.  Sun Yongren smiled.
“Anything for you, Dr. Chen” he assured.  Chen Yuzhi chuckled softly before he dipped his head again.
“Let me know if you find anything” he instructed.  Song Rong and Sun Yongren nodded.
“Yes sir!” they replied, Chen Yuzhi nodding before he turned and headed out of the building, heading back home.
~*~*~*~*~*~
The next day, as Chen Yuzhi was sitting in his clinic, going over some patient files, Song Rong and Sun Yongren stepped inside, walking over to him.
“Dr. Chen” they greeted.  Chen Yuzhi looked up at them.
“What did you find?” he asked.  Sun Yongren hummed.
“Well, according to witnesses, the Boss was last seen with two men at the train station” he replied.  Chen Yuzhi frowned.
“The train station?” he repeated.  Song Rong nodded.
“And according to the ticket master, the two men were speaking in what they think was Japanese” he added.  Chen Yuzhi’s eyes widened.
“Japanese?!” he exclaimed before he fell silent, thinking for a moment.
“The way back to Japan from Jing City is to get on a train to Hong Kong and then take a boat to Tokyo…” he murmured before he looked at Song Rong and Sun Yongren.
“Have you dealt with any Japanese triads in the past?” he asked.  Song Rong hummed.
“Not that I can remember…” he started before he looked over at Sun Yongren.
“Do you remember?” he asked.  Sun Yongren nodded.
“I do.  I think a small faction from the Inagawa-kai came and tried to start dealing drugs here.  But you know how da-ge feels about drug dealing in Jing City” he stated.  Chen Yuzhi hummed and nodded.
“Yes.  Everything is allowed except for drug trafficking and human trafficking” he replied.  Sun Yongren nodded.
“Exactly.  So da-ge pretty much wiped them out…and I guess their boss must have found out” he stated.  Chen Yuzhi frowned.
“So what…men from that syndicate came, kidnapped Jiang Yuelou, and took him back to Japan?” he asked.  Song Rong and Sun Yongren nodded.
“That would be our guess” Song Rong replied.  Chen Yuzhi was quiet before he looked at them.
“Pack your bags.  We’re heading to Japan” he declared.
~*~*~*~*~*~
Meanwhile, in Japan, Jiang Yuelou was on his knees with his hands bound behind his back in the middle of an abandoned warehouse (it was always an abandoned warehouse, wasn’t it?)  As he knelt there, something suddenly slapped his cheek, making him jolt awake before he looked up to see a group of men standing before him, one of them sneering at him.
“Hello, Boss Jiang.  Remember me?” he asked.  Jiang Yuelou looked at him before he huffed.
“Does it look like I remember you?  Where am I?  Why did you kidnap me?” he demanded.  The man chuckled before he knelt down and grasped his face in his hand.
“You see…Boss Jiang…you killed my boys.  And no one touches my boys.  So I decided to get revenge.  But I can’t touch you in Jing City…you’re too powerful there.  But here?  In Japan?  I am in power.  And I can do whatever I want to you” he growled before he threw his face to the side and pushed himself to his feet, motioning to him.
“Go ahead” he ordered.  The men surrounding Jiang Yuelou then stepped forward and began to beat him with long bamboo poles, the poles making loud cracks as they cracked against Jiang Yuelou’s back, Jiang Yuelou crying out in pain with each hit.  The man then waved his hand, the beating immediately stopping as he knelt before Jiang Yuelou again, Jiang Yuelou hissing and panting as his body trembled in pain.
“This is just a taste of what’s to come” he hissed before he pushed himself to his feet and looked at his men.
“A few of you stay here and watch him.  Make sure he doesn’t try anything funny” he instructed.
“Yes sir!” his men replied.  The man then turned and headed out of the warehouse, a few of his men staying behind while the rest of them followed after him, Jiang Yuelou trembling and glaring after them.
~*~*~*~*~*~
Three days later, Chen Yuzhi, Song Rong, and Sun Yongren arrived in Japan, Chen Yuzhi feeling perfectly fine while Song Rong and Sun Yongren looked at little green around the gills.
“Something tells me you two haven’t been on a boat before” he mused.  Song Rong shook his head.
“Just on a train…” he replied, trying his best not to hurl.  Chen Yuzhi hummed, just as a young boy rushed over to them.
“Dr. Chen!  What are you doing here?” he asked.  Chen Yuzhi looked at him before he laughed.
“Tane.  I see the spy network is still working well” he mused.  The young boy nodded, just as Song Rong and Sun Yongren looked at him in surprise.
“Dr. Chen, you know him?” Sun Yongren asked.  Chen Yuzhi turned and looked at them.
“Mm.  He’s part of our spy network” he explained.  Song Rong and Sun Yongren frowned.
“Spy network?” they repeated.  Chen Yuzhi chuckled.
“I’ll explain on the way” he assured before he looked at the young boy, Tane.
“Can you take us to the organization?” he asked.  Tane nodded.
“Okay!  Follow me!” he instructed before he turned and began walking away, Chen Yuzhi following after him.  Song Rong and Sun Yongren watched them walk away before they quickly rushed after them, both men flanking Chen Yuzhi.
“So, why are you here, Dr. Chen?” Tane asked.  Chen Yuzhi huffed.
“My husband was kidnapped” he answered.  Tane turned and looked at him with wide eyes.
“Eh?!  You’re married Dr. Chen?!” he exclaimed.  Chen Yuzhi smiled slightly before he nodded.
“Yes, I’m married” he confirmed.  Tane grinned.
“Congratulations!” he congratulated.  Chen Yuzhi smiled again and dipped his head.
“Thank you” he thanked.  Tane then frowned.
“Who do you think took him?” he asked.
“We think members of the Inagawa-kai” Song Rong answered.  Tane frowned before he tsked and shook his head.
“Don’t they know they’ve made a big mistake?” he asked.  Chen Yuzhi laughed darkly.
“Oh…they’re about to find out” he replied.
~*~*~*~*~*~
When Chen Yuzhi, Song Rong, Sun Yongren, and Tane arrived at the organization, all of the men inside bowed ninety degrees.
“Greetings Dr. Chen!” they greeted, their voices a resounding echo.  Chen Yuzhi hummed.
“Hello” he replied as Song Rong and Sun Yongren looked at him with wide eyes.
“Dr. Chen, how do they know you?” Sun Yongren asked.  Chen Yuzhi and Tane turned to look at him, just as another man stepped out of the shadows.
“He used to be one of us!” he called out, making Chen Yuzhi, Song Rong, and Sun Yongren turn to look at the man before Chen Yuzhi smiled.
“Yuuki.  Long time no see” he greeted.  The man, Yamaguchi Yuuki, laughed.
“I should say the same thing, Dr. Chen” he replied, making Song Rong and Sun Yongren look at him in surprise.
“You were yakuza?” they exclaimed.  Yuuki laughed.
“Not just yakuza!  He was the wakagashira, the second highest-ranking member in the Sumiyoshi-kai!” he replied.  Song Rong and Sun Yongren looked at Chen Yuzhi with wide eyes.
“Dr. Chen!  Is that true?” they asked.  Chen Yuzhi nodded.
“When I was younger and studying in Japan, I helped an injured Sumiyoshi-kai member without knowing they were yakuza.  They then offered me a position not too longer after that” he explained.  Yuuki smiled.
“He quickly rose through the ranks, mainly because he was a good man, a good doctor, and everyone liked him.  Also, hella deadly with a katana” he stated.  Chen Yuzhi blushed slightly before he looked at him.
“Speaking of which, do you still have the katana I left behind?” he asked.  Yuuki hummed and nodded.
“Let me go and get it” he replied before he turned and walked away, Song Rong and Sun Yongren looking at Chen Yuzhi.
“Does the boss know?  That you’re former yakuza?” Song Rong asked.  Chen Yuzhi shook his head.
“No.  But he’s about to find out” he replied, just as Yuuki returned with a sheathed curved blade and held it out to him, Chen Yuzhi reaching out to take it before he unsheathed it and looked at it.
“You’ve been taking care of it” he observed.  Yuuki huffed.
“Of course I have.  It would be a waste to let such a pretty blade dull” he stated.  Chen Yuzhi smiled and nodded as he sheathed the sword.
“I agree” he replied as Yuuki tilted his head.
“So.  Why are you here?” he asked.  Chen Yuzhi looked at him.
“My husband was kidnapped” he explained.  Yuuki’s eyes widened.
“Ha?!  You’re married?!” he exclaimed.  Chen Yuzhi tsked.
“Yes, I’m married.  But that’s beside the point.  Jiang Yuelou was kidnapped by the Inagawa-kai and they brought him here to Japan.  I need to find him and save him” he explained.  Yuuki hummed.
“We haven’t heard anything about the Inagawa-kai moving around suspiciously…but I can get the spy network on it, if you’d like” he offered.  Chen Yuzhi nodded.
“Please” he requested before he turned to the others.
“I want all of you to be on the lookout for anything suspicious.  If you see something, report back first.  Do not engage” he ordered.  All of the men bowed.
“Yes wakagashira!” they replied.  Chen Yuzhi then waved his hand.
“Go” he ordered.  All of the men nodded and turned, heading out of the mansion as Song Rong and Sun Yongren looked at him in shock, Yuuki laughing softly.
“How does it feel to be in power again?” he asked.  Chen Yuzhi hummed.
“Can’t say that I missed it” he murmured before he looked at him.
“Send out the spies.  And tell them to be careful” he instructed.  Yuuki nodded before he looked at Tane.
“You know what to do” he stated.  Tane nodded and turned, running out of the mansion as Sun Yongren shook his head.
“Dr. Chen…we’ve never seen you like this before” he admitted.  Chen Yuzhi chuckled.
“You’re just seeing a glimpse of my past.  Not like I was really in charge that much anyways” he explained.  Yuuki hummed.
“Yes, you always preferred to stay in your clinic and treat people rather than take charge” he mused.  Chen Yuzhi huffed.
“Because taking care of people is what I’m good at” he explained before he smiled slightly.
“Jiang Yuelou is a much better leader than I am” he murmured.  Yuuki looked at him before he crossed his arms.
“I want to meet this husband of yours.  See the man that makes you smile like that” he declared.  Chen Yuzhi looked at him before he chuckled and nodded.
“Alright” he agreed.  Yuuki then cleared his throat.
“Ah, there’s some guest rooms that you can borrow.  Yuzhi, your room’s still available if you want it.  No one’s touched it” he stated.  Chen Yuzhi smiled.
“Thank you, Yuuki” he thanked.  Yuuki nodded.
“Anything for an old friend” he replied.
~*~*~*~*~*~
The next day, Chen Yuzhi sat in his old bedroom, absentmindedly cleaning his katana when there was a knock at the door, making him look over at it.
“Come in” he called out.  The door then opened and Song Rong stepped inside, walking over to him.
“Dr. Chen” he greeted.  Chen Yuzhi looked up at him and smiled slightly.
“Song Rong.  What is it?” he asked.  Song Rong hummed.
“What’s your plan?” he replied.  Chen Yuzhi hummed.
“Well, first I want to know where Jiang Yuelou is and how many people there are…and once I know that, then I’ll plan my attack” he explained.  Song Rong nodded before he looked at the katana in his hand.
“Are you going to use that?” he asked.  Chen Yuzhi chuckled.
“I’m much better with a katana than I am with a gun” he admitted.  Song Rong hummed.
“I see” he murmured.  Silence then fell over them before Chen Yuzhi let out a shuddering breath.
“Do you think he’s okay, Song Rong?” he asked.  Song Rong was quiet before he sighed.
“I don’t want to lie to you and say that he is…because I don’t know.  But I want to believe that he is.  He’s a fighter.  He won’t let these bastards kill him” he assured.  Chen Yuzhi chuckled and nodded.
“Mm.  Well said” he praised.  Just then, Tane poked his head into the room.
“Dr. Chen” he called out.  Chen Yuzhi and Song Rong looked over at him.
“Tane?  What is it?” Chen Yuzhi asked.
“Some of the spies followed some Inagawa-kai members to an abandoned warehouse down by the docks…they checked inside and it looked like they were beating someone” Tane explained.  Chen Yuzhi and Song Rong’s eyes widened before Chen Yuzhi growled.
“How many were there?” he demanded.  Tane hummed.
“It looked like all the members of the main branch were there” he replied.  Chen Yuzhi nodded slowly before he pushed himself to his feet, sheathing his katana before he walked over to the door and stepped out, Song Rong and Tane following after him as he headed into the main room where the other members of other Sumiyoshi-kai were waiting.
“So, you heard, huh?” Yuuki asked.  Chen Yuzhi hummed.
“What’s the plan, Dr. Chen?” Sun Yongren inquired.
“We’re going to the docks.  And we’re getting Jiang Yuelou back” Chen Yuzhi growled.
~*~*~*~*~*~
At the docks, the Inagawa-kai members continued to beat Jiang Yuelou until he was curled in a fetal position, his body trembling in pain.
“How does it feel, Boss Jiang?  To be in the same position as my boys?” the leader of the Inagawa-kai sneered.  Jiang Yuelou looked up at him with narrowed eyes before he huffed softly.
“They were selling…on my turf.  Drugs…are not allowed…in Jing City.  They got…what was coming…to them” he croaked.  The leader growled before he suddenly kicked him in the stomach, causing him to gasp in pain, just as the doors to the warehouse burst open, making him and the other member turn to see Chen Yuzhi, Song Rong, Sun Yongren, Yuuki, and the rest of the Sumiyoshi-kai stepping into the warehouse, Chen Yuzhi’s eyes cold.
“Who the fuck are you?” he demanded before he looked at the katana in Chen Yuzhi’s hand, barking out a laugh.
“You think you can hurt anyone with that little sword?” he sneered before he looked over at one of his subordinates and motioned to Chen Yuzhi, the subordinate nodding before he rushed at Chen Yuzhi, only for Chen Yuzhi to unsheathe his katana and kick him in the stomach, causing him to bowl over as Chen Yuzhi raised his katana over his head and sliced down, cutting off the subordinates head.  As the subordinate’s headless body dropped to the ground, Chen Yuzhi turned and looked at the leader and the rest of his subordinates, all of whom were looking at him with wide eyes.
“I am Chen Yuzhi, wakagashira of the Sumiyoshi-kai!” he declared before he raised his bloody katana and pointed it at the leader.
“And you…are going to die” he growled.  The leader’s eyes widened before he laughed and waved his hand.
“Kill him” he ordered.  His subordinates roared before they rushed at Chen Yuzhi, only for the rest of the Sumiyoshi-kai, plus Song Rong and Sun Yongren, to rush forward and attack.  As the two syndicates fought, Jiang Yuelou watched, from his curled position on the floor, as Chen Yuzhi practically danced through the fight, watching as his husband, his beautiful husband, cut down anyone who got in his way.  As he watched him, he noticed something out of the corner of his eye, making him look up to see the leader slowly making his way through the chaos, a knife in his hand.
‘No’ he thought to himself before he looked towards Chen Yuzhi with wide eyes.
“Chen Yuzhi!  Look out!” he shouted.  At his shout, Chen Yuzhi turned, just as the leader surged forward and stabbed him in the abdomen, causing him to gasp and drop the katana as the man plunged the knife deeper.
“CHEN YUZHI!” Jiang Yuelou screamed.  The leader then yanked the knife out of Chen Yuzhi’s stomach, Chen Yuzhi stumbling back before he collapsed to the ground, Song Rong, Sun Yongren, and Yuuki all looking at him with wide eyes.
“Dr. Chen!” they shouted.  They then began to make their way towards him, only to be blocked or stopped by Inagawa-kai members.
“Get out of our way, dammit!  Move!” they shouted.  While they continued to fight the Inagawa-kai members, the leader looked down at Chen Yuzhi and smirked as he pointed the bloody knife at him.
“You came in here all high and mighty…now look at you.  Oh, how the mighty have fallen” he sneered.  Chen Yuzhi growled and reached for his katana, only for the man to kick it away and tsk, shaking his head.
“I don’t think so, wakagashira” he declared before he raised the knife above his head, ready to stab down when his eyes suddenly widened and he looked down to see the blade of the katana sticking out of him.
            “But…how…” he started.
“Don’t turn your back on your enemies.  That’s rule number one” a voice growled from behind, making his eyes widen before he glanced over his shoulder to see Jiang Yuelou, who had freed himself using a knife that was lying near him, glaring at him with furious eyes.
“You—” he started but before he could finish his sentence, Jiang Yuelou ripped the katana out of him before he kicked him away, watching as he collapsed to the ground, blood pooling around him.  He then tsked softly before he dropped the katana and ran over to Chen Yuzhi, kneeling beside him before he pulled him into his arms.
“Yuzhi” he breathed.  Chen Yuzhi smiled up at him weakly.
“Sorry…I came to save you and now you’re the one saving me” he murmured.  Jiang Yuelou huffed softly.
“You did save me” he assured before he tilted his head.
“Can you stand?” he asked.  Chen Yuzhi nodded.
“I think so” he replied.  Jiang Yuelou nodded before he grabbed his arm and wrapped it around his neck before he wrapped an arm around his waist and slowly stood to his feet, helping Chen Yuzhi to his.  Once they were both standing, Chen Yuzhi pressed a hand to his bleeding abdomen, hissing softly as Jiang Yuelou looked around to see that all of the Inagawa-kai members had fallen while the Sumiyoshi-kai members were still standing.  Bruised and probably a little broken, but still standing.  Song Rong, Sun Yongren, and Yuuki then ran over to them, all of them looking at them with wide eyes.
“Boss!  Dr. Chen!” Song Rong and Sun Yongren exclaimed as Yuuki shook his head.
“We need to get you two to a hospital.  How you’re both still standing is beyond me” he grumbled.  Chen Yuzhi and Jiang Yuelou nodded before they began walking away, Song Rong and Sun Yongren rushing over to help support them because like Yuuki said, they had no idea how either of them were standing.
~*~*~*~*~*~
A little while later, at the hospital, after both Jiang Yuelou and Chen Yuzhi had been treated, Song Rong and Sun Yongren stood beside Jiang Yuelou’s bed, both men looking at him.
“How are you feeling, boss?” Song Rong inquired.  Jiang Yuelou tsked.
“I got the crap beaten out of me…how do you think I feel?” he snapped before he looked at them, his face softening as he smiled weakly.
“Thanks for coming” he thanked.  Song Rong and Sun Yongren nodded before Song Rong huffed.
“We couldn’t just let Dr. Chen come alone.  You’d kill us” he stated.  Jiang Yuelou laughed weakly.
“You know me so well” he murmured, causing Song Rong and Sun Yongren to smile; it was nice to see their boss smiling.  Meanwhile, Yuuki stood by Chen Yuzhi’s bedside, his arms crossed in front of his chest.
“You’ve become quite reckless, Dr. Chen” he stated.  Chen Yuzhi hummed.
“Have I?” he asked.  Yuuki nodded.
“The old you wouldn’t have stepped into battle, if you will.  And yet here you are, being treated instead of the one doing the treating” he declared.  Chen Yuzhi laughed weakly.
“Well…Jiang Yuelou is my husband.  I couldn’t just stand back and do nothing” he stated.  Yuuki hummed.
“That’s true” he agreed before he looked at him and smirked.
“He’s quite good looking…where’d you find him?” he teased.  Chen Yuzhi tsked and weakly smacked him.
“He’s mine.  Back off” he ordered.  Yuuki laughed before he turned serious and looked at him.
“I’m glad you’re alright.  Really” he murmured.  Chen Yuzhi smiled.
“Thanks for having my back” he thanked.  Yuuki tsked.
“After all the times you had mine?  It would be dumb not to help you” he stated.  Chen Yuzhi chuckled softly before he yawned, causing Yuuki to nod.
“Alright, I’ll let you get some rest” he stated before he turned and walked over to Song Rong and Sun Yongren, patting them on the shoulders before he continued out of the hospital room, Sun Yongren and Song Rong following behind.
~*~*~*~*~*~
A few days later, when both Chen Yuzhi and Jiang Yuelou were stable enough to leave their hospital beds, they headed out to the garden that the hospital had, sitting down on one of the nearby benches.  They sat in silence for a while, Chen Yuzhi resting his head on Jiang Yuelou’s shoulder, before Jiang Yuelou looked over at him.
“So…yakuza, huh?” he asked.  Chen Yuzhi hummed.
“Yes” he replied.  Jiang Yuelou nodded slowly.
“Were you ever planning on telling me?” he asked.  Chen Yuzhi was quiet before he hummed again.
“Maybe one day…I just…I didn’t know how you would look at me if I told you” he replied.  Jiang Yuelou huffed softly before he reached up and gently flicked him in the head, causing him to let out a soft yelp before he pulled away and looked at him with wide eyes.
            “Wha—” he started.
“Silly.  You accepted me for who I am…why would you think that I wouldn’t do the same?” Jiang Yuelou asked.  Chen Yuzhi’s eyes widened again before he laughed softly and shook his head.
“I don’t know” he replied.  Jiang Yuelou huffed and shook his head as he wrapped an arm around his waist and pulled him close, Chen Yuzhi humming softly as he rested his head on his shoulder again.
“Everyone kept calling you…wakagashira.  What does that mean?” Jiang Yuelou inquired.  Chen Yuzhi hummed.
“You know how the triads have a hierarchy?” he replied.  Jiang Yuelou hummed.  Chen Yuzhi nodded.
“The yakuza also have hierarchies.  The wakagashira is the first lieutenant and basically the underboss of the syndicate.  That’s what I am.  Or…was” he explained.  Jiang Yuelou nodded slowly.
“I see” he murmured as Chen Yuzhi shook his head.
“I never liked the power though.  I preferred to stay as the syndicate’s doctor rather than act as a leader…I’m better at healing than I am at leading” he stated.  Jiang Yuelou hummed.
“I’d say you did a damn fine job leading the rescue operation” he mused.  Chen Yuzhi chuckled softly.
“Thank you” he thanked.  Jiang Yuelou then looked at him and smirked.
“And you were pretty badass with that katana” he stated.  Chen Yuzhi looked at him and raised an eyebrow.
“You think so?” he asked.  Jiang Yuelou nodded as he leaned forward, his face close to his.
“It was very sexy” he declared.  Chen Yuzhi’s eyes widened and he blushed deeply as he gently smacked him on the arm.
“Yuelou” he murmured.  Jiang Yuelou raised an eyebrow.
“What?  Am I not allowed to think that my husband is sexy?” he asked.  Chen Yuzhi blushed again.
“No, I…I’ve just never…” he started before he sighed.
“No one’s ever thought that me using my katana was sexy before.  Everyone was always afraid of me whenever I used it” he explained.  Jiang Yuelou huffed and removed his arm from around his waist before he reached up and cupped his face in his hands, making him look at him.
“Chen Yuzhi.  I am a triad leader. You, wielding a katana and covered in blood was probably the sexiest thing I have ever seen in my life” he declared before he leaned forward, a sly smile on his lips.
“And I’ve seen you under me” he whispered.  Chen Yuzhi’s eyes widened and his cheeks practically burst into flames as he smacked him on the arm.
“Jiang Yuelou!” he shrieked.  Jiang Yuelou laughed and pressed a kiss to his lips before he pulled away.
“You’re so cute, Zhizhi” he teased.  Chen Yuzhi huffed.
“I am not” he grumbled, causing Jiang Yuelou to chuckle as he removed his hands from his face before he wrapped an arm around his waist, pulling him close again as he pressed a kiss to his hair.
“Yes, my dear, you are” he declared.
~*~*~*~*~*~
A few weeks later, when Jiang Yuelou and Chen Yuzhi finally returned home to Jing City (as Song Rong and Sun Yongren had already returned at their orders), they sat on their couch, Chen Yuzhi’s head resting on Jiang Yuelou’s shoulder, just like back in Japan in the hospital garden.
“It’s nice to be home” Jiang Yuelou mused.  Chen Yuzhi hummed in agreement as Jiang Yuelou sighed.
“Let’s just hope the past doesn’t come knocking again” he murmured.  Chen Yuzhi glanced up at him before he snuggled against him.
“Well…if it does…let’s answer the door together” he declared.  At his declaration, Jiang Yuelou looked at him with wide eyes before he wrapped his arms around him and hugged him tightly.
“I love you” he declared.  Chen Yuzhi giggled and reached up, gently grasping his arm as he snuggled deeper against him.
“I love you too” he replied.

Hi Hunxi, I got on the audiodrama train because of your recommendations, and I wonder if you have a) voice actors with performances you really like and b) separately, found performers with a voice you really like (but sadly they may not done have a lot of work in that voice)?
ANON!!! YOU'RE REALLY OUT HERE ASKING THE QUESTIONS OF MY DREAMS!!!
first of all, deeply flattered that you've taken my incoherent yelling as recommendation and joined me on this train. I spend all my time here now and I'm pretty unbearable to talk to because unfortunately all I care about are Chinese voice actors these days
secondly, I feel like I should also mention the 综艺 variety show 《我是特优声》 / Voice Monster on bilibili because this show really sent me off the deep end when it came to voice actor fandom. previously I was like “oh yeah audiodramas are neat!” and after watching this show I stopped caring about anything else oops. since is the first variety show of its kind (they were trying to figure out what competitive voice acting should look like as they went rip), it’s definitely got its rough patches (and no money) but the contestants are hilarious and the judges lovely and there’s generally a wonderful atmosphere of mutual support and dedication to their art
a list of some of my favorite voice actors who were contestants on season 1 of 《特优声》:
锦鲤 Jin Li: this man’s RANGE. I think about his dub-over performance of 《罗小黑战记》 / The Legend of Hei constantly, and I love his (team’s) version of 《金乌》! I also loved him in the AD of 《师弟还不杀我灭口》, the donghua of 《天宝伏妖录》 (he’s in the AD too, I just haven’t gotten around to it), and as Aluojin in both the donghua and AD of 《烈火浇愁》. I’m currently debating on whether I want to go in on one of his currently-airing AD’s 《深渊巨龙苏醒以后》... look I’m aware I have a problem, and it’s that I love him
歪歪 (张福正)Waiwai (Zhang Fuzheng): what a sweet devilish chaos agent. my favorite performances of his are  《穿越火线》, which is was all sorts of stupid cute, and my jaw literally dropped when watching his 《黑白无双》 because I didn’t know he had that range?? I’ve been trying to find an AD of his to listen to but haven’t found one to my taste quite yet
赵乾景 Zhao Qianjing: when he showed up on 《特优声》, all the other contestants were like “why is HE here, he should be a judge” and honestly? they weren’t wrong. my favorite performance of his is definitely 《热情似火》, and my favorite AD of his is 《哏儿》 where he and Xie Tiantian LITERALLY do 相声. also, he can sing
亚捷 Ya Jie: used to be a professional backup dancer before switching over into voice acting?? how is he so cool?? 亚捷 has such a unique, gravelly voice that makes it hard for him to be cast as main roles (but REALLY easy to identify whenever he voices side characters). I’m holding out hope for him to get a good role!!!
a list of industry greats, who most people have heard before even if they don’t know their names:
边江 Bian Jiang: most people know him as the voice director of 《陈情令》 and the voice of CQL!Lan Wangji, among many, many other leading roles. what most people might not know is that he’s really good at comedy! haven’t explored his works in depth, but I did enjoy him in the donghua of 《天宝伏妖录》 and the AD  《问鹿三千》
姜广涛 Jiang Guangtao: also a VERY distinctive voice in the industry; most people probably know him as the voice of donghua Xie Lian in 《天官赐福》, though I personally prefer his Sheng Lingyuan in the donghua adaptation of 《烈火浇愁》. He’s also in the AD 《问鹿三千》, which is really a wildly stacked audiodrama
夏磊 Xia Lei, 谢添天 Xie Tiantian, 柯暮卿 Ke Muqing, and 鹏小胖 Peng Xiaopang: putting the 音熊联萌 VoiceBear Alliance mischief-makers together — Xia Lei has a lovely, distinctive voice (check him out in the 《千秋》 or 《天涯客》 AD’s), and Xie Tiantian is incredibly versatile (check him out in 《天涯客》  or 《哏儿》, also doing 相声). I have a special soft spot for Ke Muqing: he is, hands down, my favorite voice director and he has such a gremlin laugh behind the scenes (check him out in 《千秋》  or 《双杀》). meanwhile, Peng Xiaopang isn’t as well-known as the previous three, but his voice is truly very soothing (you can also spot him in 《双杀》, and as secondary characters in 《千秋》 and 《哏儿》). VoiceBear Alliance is one of my favorite voice acting studios because they’re all gremlins. all of them
吴磊 Wu Lei: THE 低音炮 baritone of the industry, you probably know him as Yan Wushi from 《千秋》 or Shen Qingqiu from the 《人渣》 donghua. also plays Chen Budao in the 《判官》 AD to Zhao Qianjing’s Wen Shi. he’s actually such a sweet person, the 反差萌 at play is really funny
刘琮 Liu Cong: the smoky voice of the industry, I’ve heard him around here and there, usually playing parental or grandparental roles asdlfkajsd. meanwhile, the 《默读》 AD is one of the best adaptations in existence and I will happily die on this hill
杨天翔 Yang Tianxiang: he’s a recent discovery of mine despite being very well-established in the industry! his performance as Fei Du in 《默读》 is absolutely outstanding, and I recently binged (and I don’t. binge. shows) the microseries 《你好喵室友》 just because he was in it. I haven’t explored his oeuvre but it’s only a matter of time because as far as I’m concerned he can do whatever he wants and I’d probably go for it
金弦 Jin Xian: okay I REALLY haven’t gone into his AD’s much but I heard him as 诗人 / the Poet in the 《小蘑菇》 AD and I’ve been obsessed with his voice since. WHAT the heck
anyway, these voice actors are pretty established in the industry; if you threw a rock, you’d probably hit at least three of their roles aldkfjaldskj
lastly, some of my favorite voice actors I’ve run into just by blundering around 猫耳FM:
路扬 (路扬君) Lu Yang: so far I haven’t found any AD’s with him as the lead, but this man’s range??? you can spot him in supporting roles in both the AD’s 《师弟还不杀我灭口》 and 《督主有病》, and his 直播间 livestreams on 猫耳 are fun too
倒霉死勒 (吴韬) Dao Mei Si Le / Wu Tao: this boy can ACT, my god. I’ve listened to 《督主有病》 and 《海中爵》, and he’s phenomenal in both!
瀚墨 Han Mo: I think I’m late to Han Mo because he’s more on the film side of things, but I enjoyed his performance thoroughly in 《师弟还不杀我灭口》, and if I’m not mistaken he plays Ao Bing in 《哪吒之魔童世》 (haven’t seen it, keep meaning to, you know how it goes)
there’s a dearth of ladies in this post, and while I could gush about 季冠霖 Ji Guanlin and 冯俊华 Feng Junhua and 龟娘 Gui Niang, I want to finish watching 《我是特优声·剧团季》 the second season of Voice Monster first, because there are a lot more voice actors there and I want to learn about more of their work!!

For the WIP Tag Game, tell us about that XY/JC AU you got going? 🙏
hiya, thanks for the ask 💜💜 this AU is my baby it’s about 8 months old I’m obsessed w it and that’s partly why it’s so unfinished lmao
so it’s a modern AU that follows the beats of canon plot, and every cultivation sect is now a company. Shit happens and JC decides to make questionable decisions and sleep with XY. To make it extra fun for me personally, JC in this verse is on the aroace spectrum, but hasn’t really figured this out about himself yet, so he’s like “maybe casual sex isn’t for me”, “maybe if it’s someone I like it’d be better”, etc. So this continues on and escalates, because XY is a) mostly here to see how far he can push JC and b) also has ulterior, benefactor flavoured motives. Fast forward to the present day of the fic, which is about ~3 years after the Jiang parents die, and WWX returns but so does XY 😌
so the fic is like. 3/4 business intrigue 1/4 dub-con smut 🤣 I just really wanted to see JC in a relationship that's unhealthy for him while projecting my aroace questioning onto him, so he’s going to suffer nicely if I ever get this thing written
Mini snippet:
He’d snapped tonight, and had grabbed a jacket and decided to stroll downtown instead of taking a car. He hadn’t planned on doing anything except just get out of the house, forget who he was and everything that depended on him. He hadn’t wanted to think about the upcoming launch of the Golden Core project, which the entire company is relying upon. This bar isn’t the sort that even Nie Huaisang had taken them to. Jiang Cheng doesn’t know why he chose this one, of all the bars and clubs on the way here, but he doesn’t particularly care where he is as long as he doesn’t have to sit in the quiet. He doesn’t know how long he’s been there when someone flings themselves into the seat right beside him. Jiang Cheng barely glances their way, but when his eyes fall on the other man, his heart stops in his chest. Long hair pulled back in a ponytail, tied off with a maroon ribbon. He almost goes to say Wei Ying? before his mind takes in the rest of him. Black leather jacket, biker gloves on the hand he can see. And when he turns a little, to call over the bartender, Jiang Cheng can see that his face isn’t quite like Wei Ying’s, cheekbones placed differently, jawline softer and face rounder. The moment of hope costs him, and he takes a hearty gulp of his drink, holding on to the way it burns going down. The man next to him sees it and laughs. “Hope that wasn’t because of me,” he says, and his tone is exactly the same as how Wei Ying used to sound trying teasing Jiang Cheng out of his black moods.

lightning in a bottle, by bigbabyjeno
“You don’t see me,” the man hisses, creeping down the corridor with his back pressed to the wall, arms spread like he’s some sort of secret agent on a top secret spy mission.
Lan Zhan watches him for a moment, trying to decide if he’s worth any concern. The man is currently crab-walking behind a row of potted ficus, though, so Lan Zhan is reasonably sure he doesn’t need to alert security about this one.
[Or; Lan Zhan is photographing a wedding when he catches someone trying to sneak in. The man claims to be the bride's brother and begs Lan Zhan to make him his assistant for the evening so he can watch his sister get married. Lan Zhan reluctantly agrees and gets a lot more than he bargained for.]
At the End of the Road, by trickybonmot
It is the stupidest, most transparently terrible idea. Wei Ying’s hand is fisted shut on the fabric of his t-shirt, twisting it up far enough to reveal a glimpse of golden-brown skin. This is the worst idea. Lan Wangji is going to say no.
“How do you imagine that would work?” he says instead.
Wei Ying gives a little half-shrug. “I guess I would jack off,” he says. “And you could, like, spot me.”
The Nines of Winter, by ArcadianMaggie
When Wei Ying misses his flight home from college for winter break, Jiang Cheng arranges a ride home—with Lan Zhan, whom Wei Ying hasn't spoken to in over two years. When the weather takes a turn for the worse, they are forced to stop for the night. Luckily, Lan Xichen's house is en route and they are able to wait out the storm. There's weather (frightful) and a fire (delightful), two rabbits and a puppy, plus Lan Zhan's emergency preparedness kit.
Snow-Covered Jingshi, by squishh
He hadn’t even realized he’d moved until he felt soft silks beneath his palm and plush lips against his own. The pull of those eyes had made him sway forward, drawn in like a spell. His hand was on Lan Wangji’s thigh, his weight pressing his hand down as he leaned against firm muscle. The heat of Lan Wangji’s lips made him feel like he was burning.
Nothing could have ever felt this good. It felt safe, and it felt dangerous. He was in danger of never wanting to do anything else but kiss this man.
______
What I imagine should have roughly happened when LWJ and WWX were in the Jingshi in episode 43 if the censorship laws weren't whack and WWX weren't so oblivious to his own emotions lol
Mature:
Get it right (this time), by AmiraAlzilu (30 chapters)
Death would be a fate too kind for Wei Wuxian. He should pay for every sin he committed.
At least that’s the only explanation he has for this impossible situation. After falling from the cliff he woke up in his 15 year old body, just before his months of study at Cloud Recesses.
So, thinking it was for the best, he decides to disappear when he was supposed to be searching for their lost invitation.
Little does he know someone else came back in time with him.
Reset, by SuperiorJello (11 chapters)
What if things went horribly wrong at the end of episode 50, and Wei Wuxian sent himself and Lan Wangji back in time to Cloud Recesses to save them?
Follows mostly CQL/The Untamed canon, but I have also read translations of the novel and seen some of the donghua, so some of that is in there too.
This fic is part of a series!
Part one only takes place in Gusu, detailing wwx and lwj's arrival in the past and the immediate repercussions thereof. It is now complete.
Part two will continue the story as our characters head to Yunmeng Jiang and forward.
Too Much To Bear, by madwriter223 (10 chapters)
Coming back to life and being immediately thrust into a quest to discover the origins of the demonic arm that had murdered nealy an entire clan overnight was not something Wei Wuxian ever thought he'd have to deal with, but it was fine. He had Lan Wangji and together they were unstoppable.
However he had no clue how to deal with discovering Nie Huaisang was apparently a wreck on the verge of collapse at any given moment. How in the world had this happened?
AKA
this is filed under 'nervous wreck nhs' in my fic folder for a reason
if i had the strength, by agloeian (6 chapters)
Jiang Cheng seethes, gripping the bridge of his nose. “I don’t know how to help you,” he admits, “so I’m sending you to the people that do.”
It nearly slips out then, the truth of the matter. Wei Wuxian opens his mouth to snap back ‘There’s no helping me, not now!’ but the words stick in his throat. Shijie is crying and Jiang Cheng is defiant and Lan Zhan is staring at him so earnestly that Wei Wuxian simply doesn’t know how to tell them all that he’s living on borrowed time.
So he doesn’t.
---
At the behest of his siblings, Wei Wuxian is sent to Gusu to recover from the strain of the Sunshot Campaign.
If only he knew how to do that.
The Yu Temper, by madwriter223 (2 chapters)
How the confrontation between Jiang Cheng and Wei Wuxian in episodes 27/28 could have gone if Jiang Cheng had let loose the temper he'd inherited from his mother?
or
Jiang Cheng goes apeshit on the morons he's surrounded by and fixes (nearly) everything

Killed at Qiongqi Pass, Jin Zixuan wakes to find himself in an old and familiar scenario; the day he and Wei Wuxian fought in Gusu Lan. The day his betrothal to Jiang Yanli came to an end.
Unsure whether or not he's dreaming, Jin Zixuan decides to seize the chance and change the future. But for that he'll need help from his bastard brother, Meng Yao.
you can have the best of me, baby, by stiltonbasket
Twelve hours after Jiang Cheng and the others escape from Mount Muxi, Wei Wuxian risks wading into the lake and discovers that the underwater passage to the stream in the maple wood has been blocked behind the tortoise’s body.
“It’s sleeping right beside the opening,” he whispers, when he and Lan Zhan are safe in a tunnel of rock too narrow for the Xuanwu’s neck and head. “Judging by the current in the water, that passage was the only way out.”
Trapped in the Xuanwu's cave with no means of escape, Lan Wangji suggests a surprising course of action to strengthen himself and Wei Wuxian for battle: dual cultivation.
The session proves successful, but despite their best efforts, Wei Wuxian's golden core yields unexpected consequences for them both.
Explicit:

Lan Zhan finds Wei Ying on tinder, the first time. He isn't someone Lan Zhan knows, or he would have swiped left. It is his smile that draws him in initially, causes him to swipe right when ordinarily he would have closed his phone again, put on his pajamas, and tried properly to sleep. It is, after all, past his bedtime.
Half an hour later finds Lan Zhan, undeniably not in his pajamas, driving down the highway to the next tiny town over.

Children in Cloud Recesses are succubming to a dark curse. There's one person who may be able to help.
Time Unwinds in a Kaleidoscope of Red, by vamprav
Wei Wuxian falls through time and hits the ground in the Burial Mounds. After taking stock of his situation he decides that things will be different this time, even if it kills him, starting with that disastrous reunion with his brother and future husband.
Heart of the Beast, by WaitForTheSnitch
“Wei Ying?” Nie Mingjue prompted him gently. “Where are your parents?”
“They went on a night hunt,” Wei Ying said, a bit evasively.
“Your parents are cultivators?” Da-ge asked in surprise. “Did they leave you here while they hunted? When did they go on their night hunt?”
“Four summers ago,” Wei Ying said a bit uncomfortable.
“Four summers ago,” Nie Mingjue repeated. “What are your parents’ names?”
“My mama is Cangse Sanren and my baba is Wei Changze,” Wei Ying told him, and recognition registered in Nie Mingjue’s eyes.
“Wei Ying,” Nie Mingjue said, sounding a bit regretful, “Your parents aren’t coming back.”
Or, Nie Mingjue and Nie Huaisang run into Wei Ying while in Yiling and decide to bring him home. And it changes everything.
We met again but in a different time, by akumanomiyu
Jiang FengMian never found Wei WuXian after he lost his parents, so he spent his life on the street, alone.
He didn't have a clan to protect him and teach him how to become a true cultivator, but he still managed to grow up a strong and righteous man.
People hated him or feared him for the demonic tricks he had to learn to survive. His life wasn't easy but he lived it as he wanted.
Until one day, a good action made him discover an evil plot against the cultivator world and cross path with the Lan clan...
you'll find my heart on the mountainside, by lulu_kitty
After parting ways with Lan Wangji on the mountain path, Wei Wuxian takes some time to consider what it is that he wants with this new second chance at life.
The answer finds him coming back to Lan Wangji, his zhiji, but after they reunite and set forth to embark on their new life together, an unexpected surprise awaits them on their journey home.
Or, a post-canon CQL/Untamed getting together story: accidental baby acquisition addition.
The Communication Effect, by draechaeli
If only there was more communication, or the right kind then everything would be all right. Wei WuXian and Lan WangJi might be bad when it comes to talking to each other about the important things, but they are still leagues better then the older generation that use communication like swords: concealing, revealing, and striking as they please for their own gain. From apologies, to misunderstandings, to sieges, to rumours and gossip, to cold wars, to lies, to civil wars, Wei WuXian and Lan WangJi navigate the world together once their brothers make sure they’re engaged before the classes at Cloud Recesses are finished.

most barren peak and bleakest winter, by WhatTheOwlHears
He drank. Set the cup down. “I understand Wei Ying would not choose to behave that way ordinarily.”
Well that was certainly true, but it felt like a lie anyway. “Haha, yeah.” Wei Wuxian put his elbow on the table so he could put his face in his hand. “Definitely would not normally make attempts on the virtue of my dear dear friend Hanguang-jun.”

can't find a way home, by KouriArashi
After giving away his golden core and being thrown into the Burial Mounds, Wei Wuxian takes his revenge on the Wen sect without crossing paths with the Sunshot Campaign.
With no trace of him found, his loved ones have no choice but to believe he died in the Burial Mounds, and go into mourning.
But then strange things start to happen around Yunmeng ... and in Lanling, Jin Guangshan has only begun to take advantage of the power vacuum left behind by the war.
Second Summer, by Anonymous
“So, this is awkward,” says Wei Ying, with a little laugh. It sounds fake. “But I think you have mistaken me for someone else.”
A year after the mysterious death of the Jin heir, Lan Wangji runs across the secret, long-lost, amnesiac love of his life while on a night-hunt.
Tragedy That Befall Upon Us, by xoxoholic
"Hey! What's this?" Jin Ling yelled, pointing at the glowing, black and red orb. Jiang Wanyin marched over to Jin Ling, but the young Jin sect leader had already touched the orb.
"Jin Ling!" Jiang Wanyin yelled in anger. If his golden core was not sealed, then Zidian would be cackling furiously.
"..Oops?" Jin Ling sheepishly smiled as he hid behind his friends. Lan Jingyi laughed at Jin Lings predicament while Lan Sizhui sighed. Ouyang Zizhen laughed with Lan Jingyi in amusement before he was hit in the back of his head by his father.
Hound's Tongue Tied Up, by Stepdavii
“I’ve figured out a way to keep us safe. Forever,” Wei Wuxian replies, still writing out all that he can think of that would possibly help.
“Oh? And whats that?” Wen Qing asks blankly.
“I’m going to make the world forget we exist.”

In which Wei Wuxian figures the best way to keep everyone safe and make everyones life better, he should make it so that his and Wen Remnants existence become forgotten. He just doesn't realize how much an impact doing so would be.
Dreams of Paradise, by Hauntcats
This on begins during the siege of the Burial Mound. Wei Ying is trying to destroy or nullify the tiger seal before anyone else can get it. The results don’t work out quite how he thought they would. His essence is trapped in between time where he witnesses different scenes of the lives of those he cares about. (The 13? 16? Years when he was dead.)
Then he wakes up in a place he didn't expect.
Once again, not Jiang friendly. If you don't like that, please, don't read.

"Did you hear, did you hear? Hanguang-jun deserted his clan"
Lan Zhan deserts the Lan Clan in favor of protecting Wei Wuxian and warns him of the pending Siege. They all run for the hills and everything is quiet for a decade until one day Xichen wanders upon him in a market in Yiling.
Impossible Remains, by Jengabears
Jiang Cheng wakes slowly to the feeling of spiritual energy swimming through his veins. Not just swimming. Singing. Flooding. He was filled with it. He didn't know if it was because he had been without any for so long or if Baoshan Sanren had chosen to make him stronger, but he had never felt so powerful in his life. It was glorious. It was everything. He felt alive again. Whole. Better than whole. He had to thank her. He had to scream his joy across the mountain. He was so infinitely grateful.
He ripped off his blindfold, turned to look around him, praises and gratitude resting on the tip of his tongue. Yet what his eyes rested on was a face he never expected to see. His joy and gratitude instantly snuffed into ashes in his mouth. His eyes widened in horror at the sight which greeted him. He wished he could take everything back. Every thought which had passed through his mind since he'd woken.
How could this happen?
OR
Wei Wuxian dies in the core transfer.
Summer Snow, by Forever_Marie
