the sun was bright and warm on a afternoon. at just seven years old, you and hiori were playing in the small backyard of his house, which had become your favorite hangout spot. the grass was freshly cut, and the scent of it mixed with the smell of the nearby barbecue your parents were preparing.

hiori had set up a makeshift fort using old sheets and a few wooden sticks. inside, it was a cozy little hideaway where you both could let your imaginations run wild. today, you were playing pirates, with hiori proudly wearing a pirate hat he’d crafted from cardboard.

“arrr, matey!” hiori declared, holding up a plastic sword. “we’ve got to find the treasure before the other pirates do!”

you giggled, playing along. “aye aye, captain yo! where do we start?”

hiori pointed towards the far end of the yard. “we have to sail through the wild jungle and avoid the dangerous traps!”

as you both pretended to navigate through the jungle of your backyard, you noticed hiori’s face turning serious. “hey, y/n,” he said quietly as you paused for a moment. “do you ever get tired of all the stuff we’re supposed to do? like school and... you know, everything?”

you looked at him, puzzled. “what do you mean?”

hiori sat down on the grass, “well, my mom and dad are always telling me i have to practice soccer. it feels like i don’t get to just play and have fun like this.”

“my parents keep saying i need to study hard to become a doctor. but i just want to play and not think about studying,” you explained.

hiori shrugged and picked up a small stick, pretending it was a treasure map. “maybe one day we’ll get to choose what we want to do, and we won’t have to worry so much.”

you smiled, feeling comforted by his words. “yeah, and until then, we can hunt for treasures, as pirates!"

hiori grinned, clearly pleased with the idea. “yes! and we’ll make sure to find all the treasure.”

the carefree days of pirate adventures became cherished memories. the small backyard fort was long gone, replaced by the responsibilities that came with growing up.

at seventeen, you and hiori were sitting on the front steps of his house, watching the sun dip below the horizon.

the conversations you used to have about treasure hunts and wild jungles had been replaced by talks about exams, future careers, and the weight of expectations.

“remember when we used to play pirates in the backyard?” hiori asked, a nostalgic smile tugging at his lips.

you laughed softly, nodding. “yeah, we really thought we’d find some buried treasure back there.”

“i wish things were still that simple,” he admitted, his voice tinged with the same seriousness you’d first noticed all those years ago.

“me too,” you agreed, leaning back on your hands. “it feels like everything’s been decided for us, like we’re just following a map that someone else drew.”

hiori glanced at you, his expression thoughtful. “but maybe we can still find our own treasure, you know? maybe it’s not about what everyone else wants for us, but what we want for ourselves.”

you looked at him, surprised by the familiar words. it reminded you of that day in the backyard, when he’d said something similar about choosing your own path. “yeah, maybe you’re right,” you said, feeling a bit of that old excitement returning.

“so, what do you say, y/n? one last treasure hunt before we head off into the real world?” hiori asked, his grin widening.

you smiled back at him, feeling a surge of determination. “let’s do it, captain yo. we’ll find our treasure, no matter what.”

🔥 about Thingol or other Sindar?

First - He is one of the characters that has the richest personality, like on some characters we have so little, how they act how they feel etc. But for Thingol, he gives us many clues about what kind of a person he is! (A very weird one, i love that for him. Dark humor, dad humor, vain, cautious, depressed, loving ---)

Second - people are givin shit to him cuz mostly they side with feanorians (most naturally) but even on my first read of the silm i didnt find his words weird, like "go take empty lands or whatever" (thingol to noldor who have just arrived to ME) Well yeah of course? Like . Idk if i can trust them yet. Sth fishy about dem kids.

Third - Luthien And Beren. This one takes the medal. There could be ..better ways of keeping luthien away from danger, but still. Bro think!! Ur an elven king, married to a maia, have a half elven half maian (?) Kid. Ofc u not gonna let sum mortal (i know who he is and he also knew who he was) take her away from you. Cuz 1) she might be miserable.. all that mortal immortal thing 2) He lost so much already, he does not want to lose his only daughter.

Four - (combination of 3 and 1) He learns from his mistakes and experiences and actually improves himself. he mf adopts Turin.. </3 He is a good dad, Beren gained his respect and love (with the one-hand joke that thingol liked) and he does regard them with respect and understanding now. Hell, wish i was turin,..to be cared by the king and grow up to be the unluckiest man alive

Five, and the last one for now - the silmaril. When he had the silmaril, I think it wasnt merely greed or amazement etc. I truly think that he could not part with it , because it would mean losing The Trees for the second time, as the silmarils held their light. I pity him so so much for this. He saw the lights once, and never again.

What you're doing is basically giving me a portion of a novel, so i'm beyond grateful for the great escape that it presents, and your hard work --no matter the length.

Ok. So, first things first, i absolutely love your version of August! Still tough but not as much, commanding at times but not often, a cocky cheeky bastard but with a playful side, still troubled, still dominant but not as hard, definitely a player, and with a tender side of him that i find quite therapeutic in a character. I still love reading the often portrayed hard version of him (let's call it like that but you know what i mean) at times, but i guess this is my kind of romantic, and he's definitely my kind of August.

What's more is that he's a dad! 😍 To a young-adult daughter! Love this!

The smut, you absolutely nailed it! Again! I'm bad at articulating my thoughts for the juicy parts accurately, but my rapid heart beat could tell you something ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

I feel like i could comment on every scene and every interaction and every word, but that just would be a long-ass (longer than this?) comment. Instead, i'm gonna say what a delightful, enjoyable reading this was! Yes, it is awkward when it's reader and her besties' dad, but him essentially helping her realize she can experience the passion she wants in her life, and not being a total dick along the way and treat her right, makes it not as awkward and uncomfortable as to make me stop reading, idk. Honestly bestie, same. I had a huge crush on Toshirou when I was younger - and then I got into Byakuya, and then Yoruichi just dropkicked the queerness into me and it's been like that ever since. But honestly, kudos to you for your love remaining strong because I could never commit to anyone :')

No I totally agree!! Between the two, Karin definitely has more potential for the plot and even for me (i.e. someone who doesn't really give a shit about the human-centric arcs in the real world *coughs discreetly*) I could tell Karin is and honestly should be a strong character with a lot of focus in the Human World. I could totally see her following in the steps of Ichigo and becoming a Shinigami, or even, god forbid, a Quincy/Fullbringer.

Like honestly why the hell aren't the rest of the Kurosaki kids touched upon when it comes to the whole Hollow/Shinigami/Fullbring/Quincy schtick? Yes, Ichigo is the protagonist so of course he should get the bizarre shounen mix (and honestly, rightfully so because those two don't need more trauma) but Karin seems to be hyperaware of everything that's going on around her. I'm sure she at least suspects her dad is something supernatural, as annoying as she finds him at her tender age. But also thanks for pointing that out to me!! (and pointing out my bae too, brownie points to you) I'll definitely keep an eye out next time I rewatch that arc

Momo is so cute indeed!! I hate that she became something of a doormat as time passes but her rushing in to save Matsumoto from the Tres Bestias was definitely a huge slay. Honestly if they didn't get Ayon in I'm sure the two of them could hold their ground. I hate that she became basically filler character material for Kubo and kinda sidestepped after the SS arc, like she is honestly so much more than her relationship with Toshirou and Aizen, but sometimes the fandom (and me) forget about that.

And yes her relationship with Shinji. 100% support. Shinji would've definitely beaten that blind subservience out of her the minute he re-assumed office and tells her to stand for herself or he wouldn't accept her as lieutenant - at least, that's how I imagine it. I wish we got more Momo and Shinji interactions, that would've been fun!!

No i hate actually how much my dad has shaped me into a person and how i interact with things. I hate that i'm just like him sometimes and i express my feelings in the exact same dysfunctional way sometimes. That i lash out in anger sometimes. That i hate when people do things the "wrong" way. I hate that i had to fear him every weekend when he came home because what if the rooms werent clean enough and he would yell or be mad. I hate that i had to walk around eggshells around him when he was in a bad mood so he wouldnt yell at me, and i hate it more that it still fucks me up to the point that i run away when someone is upset bc im afraid of them. I hate that i would have such horrid anxiety abt him coming home on the weekends or staying at home for longer that i wished he hadn't come in the first place. I hated so much how he would twist my moms words, and read through all her messages and browse through all her history and shit on her and me for how long we both spent on the computer so i learned to delete history to get away with more computer time. I hate how one time he slapped me so hard on the thigh that it left a bruise but he denied it later so i have no fucking clue if it actually happened because hes never been physical w me and my mom but i remember it so vividly. It was 1 time and never again and in 3rd(?) Grade and i still remember it every now and then. I dont like it that i hated being at home because 80% of the time they were fucking arguing with my mom in the kitchen over something HE made up because HE was jealous of my mom or didnt like sth that my mom did bc HE didnt like it. He caused her so much grief and she had to put up with it and i followed suit because i wanted him to like me so i was nasty to my mom to please him. I had to listen to him rant abt mom and just nod along because i didnt know what to say. And then he started getting better and he wasnt so argumentative anymore so me and my mom were like omg hes changing. And then he fucking died. And i had to watch him die at the hospital while repeating to myself he will be fine becwuse hes a big strong man who has never been sick so he MUST survive, all while doing homework for logo class. And i woke up on tje morning of the 28th dec at 5am with the thought that my dad is probably dead. I brushed it off like haha im just anxious and went to sleep again. He died at 4am. I knew, i felt it.

And now i miss him so often because he was just misguided and didnt know how to deal with his emotions properly. But he still hurt me so bad and my mom even more from what shes told me. You Don't Know What You Have Until You Almost Lose It

There was a strong ringing in his ears. That was the first thing Alfred realized when he came to. But could he really call it “coming to?” His eyelids felt heavy to the point he couldn’t open them and everything sounded like he was underwater. Worst of all, his whole body was unresponsive and sore.

“What if he,” a muffled voice says, “I know, I know. But they said there was only a small chance he…I-I-I…I just…I’m… scared Francis. God damn it. I’m…I’m terrified.”

It was Arthur. His angry, uptight, prideful guardian was beside his…hospital bed? Given how sore he was and the occasional beeps he could hear, that was Alfred’s best guess. Sure the man had custody of him at this point, but he always thought Arthur hated his guts considering how annoyed he always seemed to be. But there he was, sounding…scared, emotional. Alfred wished he could just reach out to him and tell him everything was going to be okay. But his body refused to move. Soon, sleep began to tug at him, much to Alfred’s dismay. He wanted to listen to Arthur some more, he wanted to comfort him, but he couldn’t fight his tiredness, and soon he was fast asleep.

Alfred spent the next couple of weeks like that: floating in and out of consciousness. Every time, Arthur was right there. Sometimes Alfred could tell by the voice, other times by a tight grip on his hand. It was surprisingly comforting, and he actually liked it. He wished he had enough strength to tell Arthur that.

Halfway through the third week, Alfred finally managed to open his eyes. The light was blinding, but eventually, everything came into focus. With a grunt, Alfred turned his head to find Arthur curled up in an armchair using what looked like Francis's jacket as a blanket. “Art…” Alfred tried to speak, but his throat felt dry and it hurt to speak. Thankfully it was loud enough to wake the Brit up. Arthur slowly twisted himself upright on the chair, his bones creaking from laying in the uncomfortable position. As soon as his gaze met Alfred’s he froze. His green eyes became wide and wild and his whole body tensed.

In a moment, Arthur was right there beside him, tears streaming as he grasped Alfred’s hand. “I thought you were gone,” Arthur choked out, “Th-They thought you’d never…Thank God.”

“Arthur…” Alfred croaked.

“Shh,” Arthur murmured, running a hand through Alfred’s hair. “It's okay poppet. I-I’ll get the doctor, you just sit tight.”

When Arthur went to get up, Alfred only grabbed his hand. The thought of being alone right now scared Alfred more than he wanted to admit. Now that he was awake, the dull pain he was feeling before became sharp and overwhelming, not to mention he had so many questions racing through his mind. When Arthur turned back to him, his eyes softened. Immediately, everything felt a bit more bearable. “Oh Alfred,” the Englishman said with a watery sigh, “I’ll just be a minute. It’s…It’s going to be okay, but I need to get the doctor. I promise I’ll be right back.”

“Oh…yeah…” Alfred said, trying his best to sound cool, but he already blew that cover, “O-Okay…But…c-come back soon.”

Arthur gave him a warm smile before placing a gentle kiss on his forehead, “I promise. Now just sit tight and rest.”

Reluctantly, Alfred let go. It would be fine. Arthur would be right back, the doctor would be able to answer his questions and perhaps help with the pain. It would all be okay. So why did he feel so on edge?

Moments later, Arthur returned with the doctor and a glass of water. As the doctor began explaining what happened, Arthur helped Alfred take a sip o. From what Alfred had managed to gather, he had been in a car accident on his way to work resulting in multiple broken and fractured bones as well as a concerning amount of blood loss. Though the doctor couldn’t promise anything, things were looking up and assured Alfred that he was well on his way to recovery. After giving him some pain meds and talking a bit more to Arthur, the doctor left, promising to come to check on him in an hour or two.

With the doctor now gone, Arthur and Alfred were left in awkward silence. “Francis and Matthew will be here after hockey practice,” Arthur explained, his gaze shifting to look out the window. Alfred hummed in acknowledgment, not feeling like talking as his throat was still kind of dry.

“They didn’t think you’d wake up,” Arthur went on, voice cracking, “ The doctors I mean. I was…We were so…scared. Francis refused to believe we'd lose you, but I…I was starting to think…” Arthur quickly shook his head, wiping furiously at his eyes. “Sorry. That’s probably not something you want to hear having just woken up.”

“Would you have missed me?” Alfred blurted out.

“Why would you ask me that?”

Alfred shrugged, turning away from Arthur in shame. He knew the Brit wasn’t that cruel, but the words just flew out of his mouth. “You don’t seem to want me around.”

“Alfred…I-I know I’m harsh but…” A pained look crossed Arthur’s face before he took Alfred’s hand again. “That doesn’t matter. I’m sorry. I’m so, so sorry." There was a pause before Arthur added, "Do you want to know a secret?”

Alfred nodded.

“I was so scared when I got the call about the accident. I don't think I had ever been that scared in my life. I feared the worst and…If you were gone…I didn’t think I would be able to go on.”

“Arthur…” Alfred turned back to face the Englishman who was now crying once more.

“I love you. So…So much, even if I don’t always show it. You and Matthew are the reason I get up in the morning. The reason I keep going. If you were to…”

He never knew that. Arthur had taken him and Matthew in after their parents passed away eight years ago, and Alfred had never heard the man be so honest with his feelings. He had always assumed, Arthur hated having two teenage boys dumped on him so suddenly. But he couldn't have been more wrong. It almost made Alfred feel bad for assuming he hated him.

“I love you too,” Alfred said, swallowing the lump that was growing in his throat.

Arthur squeezed his hand, giving him another warm smile despite the tears. “I promise, from now on I’ll be more honest and tell you how I really feel. But you have to tell me how you're feeling too.”

"Okay." Alfred found himself smiling back, squeezing Arthur’s hand as well. At that moment, he finally understood what they meant by you don’t know what you have until it’s gone. Arthur seemed almost like a different person after everything, and frankly, Alfred did too. Something had shifted and it made Alfred unbearably happy. He was okay and they were going to be okay. Alfred couldn’t ask for more.

You have no idea how much I hated that Fire and Blood book and Jayjay was one of the biggest reasons. That annoying piece of sh*t lived that long just to p*ss me off.

This book made me rooting for Maegor. He really should have killed idiot Aenys' whole brood to save all of us from misery.

I don't even want to talk about that book. Yes it tells that ALL Targs suck but Martin really put very problematic and disturbing ideas in that book which totally ruined the series for me.

Anyway... That idiot Jayjay and fake feminist Alysanne were so fcking annoying and selfish. They married despite of the political situation Westeros in because of Targs' desire to fck each other and I was like: WHY? Selfish weirdos used their nukes to shut people up and came up with that Exceptionalism bullsh*t to shut people up for longer. Their daughter Daenerys dying of shivers and our beloved Khaleesi now shitting on grass really proved that TaRGs aRe sPeciaL.

What really bothered me with that book was that it felt like a joke. Yes, to certain degree that book was satire but written as a Targ propaganda. So it had two aspects of it.

1- This a Targ POV, therefore a propaganda so don't let it fool you.

2- This is a satire about how in subtext Targs sucked.

But it was also obvious that Martin tried to give an example of his ideal/good king with characters like Jayjay. Even though he makes sure that Jayjay was also an a*shole, he gives the hints of him being a good king.

I think (!) Martin believes that a good ruler doesn't have to be a good man and this is fine... I don't believe this idea, but I can respect it.

My problem was those hints of a good king. Because they didn't feel developed naturally.

Martin's attempts to paint Jayjay and Alysanne as good king and queen were laughable.

I know that Martin prefers the peaceful kings.. the ones who don't fight etc.

OK. But I find this idea unrealistic. Not all wars are for money and fame. His idea of a king who only cares about improving economy and good harvest is a little utopic.

And I think he cheated a little when he tried to show that Jayjay was a king who chose peace over fighting. Because that little sh*t didn’t have to fight in the first place. Meagor suddenly dies, so does Septon Moon, Joffrey Doggett starts serving him with tears in his eyes (WHY?) and Faith Militan got disbanded because let's incest weirdos who think they are gods defend the Faith. Aaaaand now you have a kingdom without any defiance. Wow Jayjay... you worked too hard dude, go fck your sister for a while.

Martin was like: "Hey this bloodpurist weirdo loves reading and talks about tax policy... obviously best king ever!".

Him wasting pages for his tax policy was such a weak attempt to make his point about Aragorn's tax policy. Because I didn't care about Jayjay's kingship in the first place. Yes a lot of awful leaders in the history managed to come up with good economical or whatever policies but those people actually sucked in the long run so we don't remember them as good leaders, therefore awful people can't be good rulers imo. Sorry not sorry. When I read Jayjay's reign, I didn't consider him as a good king for a second.

And his sister wife was even worse. She was like I HAVE TO BE HIS QUEEN!! Why? Because. Yeah ALIEsanne, only you can be a good queen, you freak. Let's be disrespectful and selfish to Westeros' people.

She was like: "I ended that barbaric first night tradition (I wonder why Martin insisted on some "myth" about Middle Ages...) because look at the poor women who suffered because of barbaric Northern Lords (she works on this after her visit to North was so?????). What would Westeros do without some white imperialist bloodpurists who are more sophisticated than barbaric Westeros lords???"

And she got surprised when Valyrian lords were also into prima nocta but HEY, women in Dragonstone were happy about it because Valyrians were not some simple lords! They were GODS!!! Such a blessing! Because women love being used by "gods".

She was like: "Women can RULE too" But she usupers her sister's right. And Martin tries to paint her as a good queen because she let women speak. She believes she is superior!!! Who cares about her fake woke white feminism?!

ANYWAY. Both Jayjay and ALIEsanne were awful and I didn't read them as good king and queen. I think Martin's philosophy of "bad people can be good rulers" wasn't for me. Because I believe that a ruler who believes he/she is superior than normal people can't be a good ruler. Ofc, good ones makes mistakes too but were talking about: Bloodpurism, racism, nuclear weapons and imperialism here. These are not some normal human faults. These are the recipe for a really awful rulership.

Another yikes about that book was that all anti Targ people were AWFUL or they died while they were fcking a horse!?. Only perverts, mad people, sexist pigs and bigots were anti Targ during the whole book. And people of Westeros were ok with Targs... Yeah who wouldn't love some white people with nukes come to invade your land? This is some white American thing, I guess...

When people of Westeros killed some geckos because some old smelly mad man provoked them to do, they felt bad afterwards!?!??! Literally all book was a joke and you can't force it to make sense by only saying that this was written as a Targ propaganda because Martin CHOSE to write this way. And I can't unsee the problematic aspects... This book screamed: "AN OLD WHITE AMERICAN WROTE ME".

I love Martin, but I wish he didn't write this book at all. If I sound bitter about him lately, this book is the reason. I wasn't expecting sth this awful.

And the book wasn't even pleasing to read. It had no literary value. Just bunch of unnecessary information (like the Septa who wrote a naughty book) about annoying and awful people.

It lacked the aspects that made Asoiaf great like the psychological side of the characters or character developments and arcs and beautiful POVs...

But it shares one of Asoiaf's weak points: NO POV from anti Targ people. He failed to give a POV to people in Essos against Dany in main books and this created the DANY THE WHITE SAVIOUR. He makes the same mistake in this book too and I hated it... I wish he wrote this book from different perspectives in Westeros. But too late.

In conclusion: I HATED THAT BOOK. But at least it showed one thing clearly: ALL TARGS SUCK.

TBT, I spent a lot of my childhood travelling through the same roads, and though I likeresting, being at home is realy difficult no matter how good it is, or even a hotel if I have everything paid for yaknow? The drive-wow

There's this one time when I was 10 or 11. My dad was hospitalized. The place we had to live was on the other side of the city. So everyday, we had to commute for one and a half hours where we passed through the outskirts, to the Army camp, to main roads fileld with people to another outskirt and it was beautiful. I miss that journey so much.

The reason I want a semi-mobile home is because I wanna keep moving. See those tiny villages, but still have a place to sleep. Maybe go a tad bit minimal or sth while moving through cities and Villages alike. Get lost. Find a new spot.

Being on road when you are in a car, especially your Own, is a beautiful feelings. Major relate.

As a kid, I was nicknamed “heart attack a minute” by everywhere I went — school, extended family etc, because I would be given one project and immediately move onto the next before anyone could keep up.

Like, in kindergarten we had tables of activities we’d rotate through, and I’d finish my project way ahead of everyone else and always be like “Done! :D” and the teachers were there terrified like this

I somehow did not make this connection until like I’m almost all the way through the book, but 扎马步 (zhā mǎ bù) or if you take the literal meaning of characters “poke horse step” is literally so well known it’s insane. I’m talking one of the first training/fighting stance that comes to a Chinese person’s mind when u mention kung fu/combat training in general well known so I rly dunno how it slipped my mind for an entire book

this particular stance is always a lil funny to me bc of the way it’s phrased in Chinese; with the 扎 “poke”, the intention is to convey a planting & sinking, steadying of the stance that’s just also funny af to me

so imagine sth u find a lil silly & funny fully becoming a flirtatious & romantic code specific to the main characters of the story? hilarity ensued; rip my friend who had to listen to my scream-laughing

Jianzhu, the architect, his name is literally pinyin for building (建筑 jiàn zhù); imagine naming ur kid Building Smith. No wonder he’s such an uptight type A

the name of Jesa’s (Kyoshi’s mom) sky bison, Longyan / 龙眼 (lóng yǎn), while directly translates to “dragon eye”, also happens to be the Chinese word for Longan fruit (which like Lychee, has cloudy, white/clear-ish flesh surrounding a dark, round pit)

Rangi’s name in the Chinese translation of the book is 燃姬 (rán jī), which itself is a basic sound translation, but these characters mean “lady on fire” or “burning lady” this is kinda cute as heck 4 me for some reason????? lil furnace lady Rangi makes me soft

…that brings us to Rangi’s mom Hei-Ran, someone who we know can be cold and calloused in getting sh*t done with some shady days in the academy, & her name may reflect that. her name could be these two characters 黑燃 (hēi rán), which translates to “black burn” or “dark burn”. talk abt obvious characteristic here; nothing more obvious than ur name amirite???

…then again it could also be 黑兰 (hēi lán, “Black Orchid”) which tbh I kinda like better bc it’s more likely to be used as a name; AGAIN, no one wants to name their kid “black burn” it really doesn’t sound as cool as you’d think

After clues from the comments (thank u @taare-writes!) and help I outsourced from TikTok — Hei-Ran’s name actually could be 혜란 in Korean !! also when I put this in the translator I used, the corresponding Mandarin it gave me was 蕙兰 (hùi lán), which is a specific type of orchid (boat orchid I believe?) and SUCH A PRETTY NAME oh my

the term used for the outlaws daofei, is literally just 盗匪 (dào fěi) “thieves/bandits”; this especially tickles my friend (who’s also reading these novels) so I gotta include it for her ;))))

the daofei’s secret gathering spot next to a lake in the mountains, Hujiang, could be 湖江 (hú jiāng) “lake river” or 湖将 (hú jiāng) which if u squint at it could mean “just by the lake”. this is fun bc it’s possible the author just flipped the saying 江湖 (jiāng hú), which while directly translates to “river lake”, has a much broader & meaningful use often in 武侠 (wǔ xiá, if u know u know, but if u don’t you can think of it as samurai or traveling knight but CHINESE) lore: it is used to refer to the world of action, thrills, and adventure walked by these warriors. It’s p cool to me lmao

oh and the Lei Tai the daofei’s fight on? Just 擂台 (lèi tái) “fighting stage”, same thing as the ring in boxing but doesn’t only reference one specific type of fight

Yun’s name is p simple & straight forward, probably just 云 (yún, “cloud”); it’s also an actual last name and I know someone from Highschool with this last name :)))

While Kyoshi obviously has Japanese origins, the kanji corresponding to きょし is 虚子. Japanese kanji have their origins in Chinese characters, and in this case these two kanji can mean “child of the void” (虚 xū “the void / the lack of something” 子 zǐ “child / kid”); pretty fucking metal name if u ask me

Lao Ge, the human alias of the bloodthirsty spirit in Kyoshi’s gang, could just be 老哥 (lǎo gē) “old brother” which is equivalent of just bro

… it’s real name, Tieguai, could be 铁怪 (tiě guài) “iron monster” or 铁拐 (tiě guǎi) “iron crutch”, which both kinda make sense??? given its monstrous tendencies and ancient origins

the green emerald burial sword Tagaka carried with her, jian, literally is just 剑 (jiàn) “sword”. Yes they really went you know what? we gon call it a sword sword

speaking of weapons, the dao broadsword? same thing. 刀 (dāo) literally means “broadsword”. broadsword broadsword hehe

what I find interesting abt this whole weapons naming is that technically when u picture a broadsword, it falls under the umbrella classification of sword (can someone who’s first culture ain’t Chinese confirm this??? thanks); though for Chinese ppl, 剑 (jiàn, “sword”) and 刀 (dāo, “broadsword”) are completely different beasts

basically dao & jian to us r like tigers and wolves when broadswords & swords r like tigers and lions (both in the felidae family)

where this info kinda becomes relevant is bc knives are also translated as 刀 (yeah the one for “broadsword”), and the way ppl know which type of sharp instrument you mean depends on the context. if ur carrying ur dao on ur back (like in the novels) it’s broadsword; if ur looking for a dao to prep dinner with it’s probably a knife unless u really have the urge to chop spinach with a broadsword

the Yellow Scarf’s imprisoned (later freed then dropped) leader, Xu Ping An, has a weirdly ironic name; his name is likely 许平安 (xǔ píng ān), “wish for peace”. 许 (xǔ) can mean “making a wish” & is an actual Chinese last name; 平安 (píng ān) “peace” on the other hand can be & have been used as a name

slight tangent: there’s this Chinese tradition of including undesired characteristics in ur child’s name so they could avoid those things in life I know it’s probably not the tradition mom&dad Xu had in mind when they named him but it did kinda take effect

the design of Govener Te’s mansion complex, the traditional earth kingdom siheyuan design that Rangi mentioned? It’s an actual traditional courtyard’d household design. I’m not the expert on this but if ur interested u can just search siheyuan and read more abt it ! v fascinating

四合院 (sì hé yuàn) roughly translates to “four enclosing yard”, referring to how the structure of this type of housing consists of four sections of single floor housing (each a specific functional space) enclosing an exposed courtyard in the middle. Started cleaning home like 3.30 in the morning, after I woke up to a continuing talk with a friend on whatsapp at 3 am.

While tidying and cleaning the house I was thinking may be I was a bit harsh on him because after all he did not say anything bad and all he thinks is my good will - yet now after thinking an hour while tidying the house I am pretty sure it is not good for me

Society is a strange concept. You can never stay all free unless you go and start a life by yourself in the jungle. Otherwise you always have to be a part of it - even when you dont think so. My dad my mom always and still making me erase some posts which I think they are mostly right about their criticism because they are the only people may be who truely knows my way of thinking yet there is one more thing they know : how others may think and can understand my thoughts in a different way.I can clearly and confidently say that being a parent of mine should be really tiring. Dealing with a “child” for 37 years who mostly has a different point of view than the society.

Same is valid for my friends. I do think that it should be really haed to deal with me. When you make a dirty joke to your friend and when she does not get it constantly should be annoying. And think that when she gets it she just scolds you for being childish.

I dont understand how people connect certain images with certain situations. Kissing a cat video might be found “sexy” by people or wearing a short skirt can be thought as trying to be alluring. Throwing a birthday party for a friend could be understood as trying to steal him from his wife for example. Or I dont know how but being good friends with a male friend and telling here and there that you missed him can be seen as you two have something special. Or hugging a person can be misread as having something between.

I find these thoughts always so “not understandable”. I do like implies and I use them a lot only when I am broken or only when I have to tell some one to do sth or only when I need to reject someone. Because I dont like to hurt anyone yet I dont understand how people can think you imply something when you say you miss some one or love some one or like someone. These words are good words. These are full of emotion words. However howcome in the end all are connected to romantic relations I don get - even while writing here as “romantic relations” I struggled because a person can love a tree and it may be romantic in a way yet it is not the way generally people understands. I remember one certain memory: my mom telling my ex fiancée that I might write a poem for a freaking chair as if it is a person which does not mean that I am in love with anyone.

And now yeah we are there.. Lets return the beginning of this page. Yeah I was harsh on a friend and thought a lot during cleaning the home. Why I was harsh was because he thinks that I need someone in my life - which I surely dont think so , decided this morning. As I wrote him “ I do make talks about relationships, I do behave as if I am interested but I am not. I do have these “fake” standing because of my age. Because when I behave as if true myself people find it fake because up to society a 37 year old woman should be interested in the stuff like this. So they do not accept I dont give a damn heck about these talks.” And this is why I always act as if. Today I just though how unhappy I was when I was about to get married at the age of 26-27, was waking up in the middle of the night and thinking how I truely did not wanna get married : and it was the society in the first place making me say “yes” to a person that I did not wanna get married because up to society a woman should do this do that etc etc etc.

And now it is an another phase: the phase that in order not to be misunderstood or labelled I have to act as if I am interested in some men otherwise people or their girlfriends see you as a threat as if their husbands or boy friends are made up of gold and you are hitting on them. Hello! I am not interested. So first in order to stop these gossips about you you should behave as if you are interested in someone otherwise people dont get you may not be interested in anyone. I dont understand why it should be black and white in every situation and dont get why people are so blind to gray. Another point is in order people not to misunderstand your gender you have to show your interest to men. I dont care if they think I am not straight or so but they talk. They talk a lot. And in year 2021 people still think being a gay is something funny and not normal. I pity these people yet I am straight and it is the same rudeness calling a gay as straight when you call a straight person as a gay. So in order not to be misunderstood I do have to make “men” talk on social media or in my life because people dont get “how come you dont?! At a 37 person howcome you cant have any specific point on men you find sexy?! How come you cant have a type?! Oh come on you are lying!!” I actually dont lie yet in order to deal with these situations I learnt to lie. As I told my friend this morning “I seriously do some talks because otherwise is impossible for people and I just dont wanna deal with them”

And this is actually how society puts a pressure on you without knowing. Lots of friends trying to make me up with some one: and my honest opinion this is so “waste of time” meeting with someone for a date. I mean isnt it? You both know that you meet on a specific purpose to understand if you are compatible or not and to me being compatible doesnt mean “love”. They find me rude when I say “no” to these date offers or imply that I am not interested because to them we would be very good or they are wanting my goodness which I reject. And what they dont understand within all these years is, ME. How I see the things. I like things being in their natural way. If I ll have a relationship it should happen in a natural way. I should fall in love for example. But no! For the society as a 37 year old (up to them beautiful) woman should not be alone or if she is alone there should be something wrong with her. And may be something wrong with me because I do care about emotions rather than “shoulds”

So as a result today I decided that I wont be making the same mistake as I did years ago : letting the society shape me and letting myself go with the flow and I was about to get married with a man I did not love just because it was expected by my friends or the people around me. Today I remembered how down I was feeling on those days and I dont wanna feel like that again. I do want a child yes. And there are other ways to “get” one like stealing some other people’ child (lol jk ofc).

Oh just an another point. I am never the kind of person who is able to show her feelings to the guy she likes (became a big problem in one of my relationships because he was always questioning that I am very physical and touchy to everyone yet not to him. And yeah! If I am hugging you or touching you this means my flirting probabilty with you is 0%) yet I found something I find irritating is “although I like the man doing the first second third…10th move until I understand he is interested, I seriously turn off when he gets harsh on me and openly shows his interest” this is the thing I can say “weird” about myself,for example because this is “weird”.

But the other stuff, I dont think that the way of thinking I have is weird. I dont think having no interest in speaking about relationships, not wanting to listen your “bed time sexual problems or stories” with your husbands/wives or lovers is weird. Because it is not my business but when I say this you call me either rude or weird. So I tried to act in a way you wanted and faked a lot which made me exhausted and today I just bursted as “E NOUGH!”. Because the more I try to fake in a way society wants me to, the more weird my behaviors become.

So I wont be doing any more. This is me. I wont act as the society wants me to act. Do think I have issues because I am not interested in the “make up” dates you arranged?
